1. introduction: Hello skew share students. My name is till Welcome to a disk class where I'm going to teach you how to draw if pen, ink and what color. My favorite medium when it comes to sketching and creating a medium that I have used for more than ten years. So obviously in order to follow along with this class, you will need some supplies, pen, ink and what Holler, if you don't already have, Tammy can check out the list of supplies that I recommend. You can download this from the skew Schadt class notes. So in this class I will be talking about supplies in each lesson. And I will teach you how to draw some warm-up Sketchers to get you going along. We will be drawing a watercolor palette. And then we will colour that ink sketch with what a color. So this is not a particularly challenging sketch to drawn to this just to get you warm up, to get you to realize the potential. The possibility is that you can create with this medium. Penning on watercolor is very compact. It's a very versatile drawing medium. Somebody you can use at home. And it's something that can bring outdoors as well because it's just pen ink and what colleagues very compact and easy to bring along. So here are some sketches that I drew while I was out sketching somewhere, drawn out, awesome. We're actually drawn indoors. Some were drawn with pencils and some were drawn with ink. So what color is the medium? Because of the beautiful colors you can create it. So I am very excited to teach you. Let's jump right in. 2. Pens to draw with: In this lesson, I'm going to talk about Penn's. I'm gonna show you the different types of pens, their characteristics, and show you what adaptations that are suitable for use with watercolor. So when it comes to choosing, append the most important criteria to any criteria is the ink and the pen. It has to be what approved so that when you apply water onto the lines, the lines we'll still be sharp and permanent. The lines will not dissolve and make a mess. These are some pens that I have collected over a period of ten to 20 years. And I have, he divided them into three groups. This half here are disposable pens, and here are the fountain pens and refillable pens. Within the disposable pen group, there are panels that are suitable for watercolor and pens that are not suitable for what a colour. The advantages of using disposable pans, Well, they are very convenient. Once you use up the ink edges, I get a new pen and you don't have to maintain the pen. So he died a clean depends for funding pens and refillable pens update do need occasional cleaning, some maintainance, but in the long run they are actually more economical because you can use them with your own inks and you have huge variety of inks to choose from. O you can choose different colors are different characteristics for the inks. That's talking about disposable pens first. So when you buy a pen, always find out what type of ink is used in the pen. If you are at stationary shop, you may be able to find the information on the site of the pen. If you are buying hands on line, then do some research first. So here it says that the ink is payment it, and this ink is water and fit proof. Now when you see pigment at earrings, that means that pan, it's grateful what color it's going to be waterproof as well as proof. Oh, pens. We will have the information on the pen itself. So you have to do some research online to find out what sort of ink is in this pen. This pen happens to have payment at Inc as well. This is a pilot V5 high-tech point says here that it uses pure liquid ink, but there is no information as to whether the ink is pigment. So we will not be able to know if this is actually waterproof or feet proof. If you don't know if the ink is would approve, don't buy the pen or do some research before you get down to a stationary shop ordering the pen online and before you used. And we've watercolor all to create actual art, always has a pen first so as to avoid unwanted surprises. So you can basically apply some water over the lines, but make sure the ink is dry first before I do so. So here I can see is pilot V5 high-tech point. It doesn't use waterproof ink. Some inks may be what approved, but they are not feet proof sold. A second criteria when it comes to choosing pens is, in addition to choosing waterproof pens, choose feet proof pens as well. So here are two examples of pens with waterproof ink, but If you expose the ink to lighten loading up the ink will actually fit, which is obviously not good. If you are using this pans inside Sketchbook, it's alright, but if you wanted to create art for display purposes, Dan, I don't recommend them because the ink will fit in, the art, will come in in, may have different meanings so far this sharpie marker permanent just means this ink is what a proof, but it's not feet proof. When choosing a pan, always look out for this word here, pigment or pigment it. These are the two pens I showed you earlier. So he's test your pens first. Let me express some water. So this two pens, they are definitely what proof but fought a Sharpie and jet stream when you expose them to light under the sun, maybe for a few months to black may actually feed into it is a very ugly brown color. Most disposable pans who either have ruler, boss such as these pen on the far left or a needle 0.4 needle point. The needle can be foo metal like this, or it could have a felt tip. At a tip. Felt tip will wed all Foster on rougher paper and some of them may. Even Ben, you pressed WHO? Hot and his pen on the right side and this is a fool felt tip pen. The tips we have different degree of smoothness. The difference is actually quite subtle. So it really comes down to personal preference. Felt tips will provide a more tactile experience when drawing. But personally for me, I prefer Fu metal tips because they are durable and almost indestructible unless you drop the pen on the tip. My choice of parents when it comes to drawing would be fountain pens and refillable pens, because I can choose the inks I wanted to use in their pens. And also it's more economical in the long run. I don't have to keep buying disposable pens. Most of the pens here are fountain pens except for this one which is a refillable technical pen. This is the rotary ISIL graph, which is a refillable technical pan with needle point. So it uses this ink cartridge or you can feel your own ink with protein was ourselves disposable pans. They seldom refillable version as well. Now this pen is significantly more expensive compared to their disposable one. In the long run, you will still save money with this because Inc. is cheap and this pan is definitely more environmentally friendly. Fountain pens are pens that come with a metonym. This is the Lemmy Safari, One of the earliest fountain pens I have. The metal nib is available in different sizes, usually extra fine, fine, medium and brought there also special nips and designs which I'm going to show you more off later on. Different parts of the fountain pen includes the cap, which can be the poo off type. Or the screw on type which provides a better seal, which prevents the append need from drawing more effectively. And you can remove the body. Here I have an ink converter. This is basically the refillable version of their disposable ink cartridge. Some fountain pens may include this sum may not, if the ink converter is not included, I do highly recommend you get one and do make sure that the income that you get is compatible with their fountain pen you have because there are a lot of different brands out there so far, Lemmy Safari, they can only be used with Lemmy a converters. If you use ink cartridges, well, you have to keep on buying with them. This is the group section. The feet is insight, the group of section. This particular model is demonstrator, which means it has a transparent body. So you can actually see how the ink flows within the pen for the Lemmy Safari does feed that's inside a grip section. This is not removable. Some fountain pens do allow you to remove the feet for thorough cleaning. So if you want to clean this pan thoroughly is not gonna be as convenient. This metal here and this is replaceable and removable. So if you wanted to change to a different 10P, you can do so easily without buying a whole new pen. Here's the nib section of a fountain pen mean by pilot for this particular pen, you can dismantled NAEP feet from the grip of section just by twisting and pulling it out. If you don't know how to dismantle your pen, you can do a search on maybe YouTube to see if your pen can be dismantle, not off on panels can be dismantled completely. If you tried to dismantle fountain pen, that cannot be dismantle, you may end up damaging it, which obviously is not good. All right, let me show you some of the fun pants I have and talk about their characteristics. This is the Duke 2-0 nine. This is a cheap fountain pen under US $20. This is a fooding NAEP, which is actually bent. So for this particular PAN, depending on the angle you are holding, you can produce thin and thick lines. This is quite a versatile Penn for drawing. When I bought this pen, iterated came with an ink convertor. So that's great. This is the piston type Inca converter where you can push and pull the converter from Lemmy Safari desktop twist type. If you are wondering how I was able to write earlier with this pen without any insight, actually, dip pen into the ink bottle to load feet with ink. So do we few of unpin you just have to deep the fountain pen in 2D ink, makes sure the ink covers the NAEP section and then suck the ink into the ink converter. Makes sure to clean the pen, probably, especially that group section. I'll talk more about the different types of inks you can use in a font apparent in the next lesson. So to clean a pen, you have to flush out the ink first. So I'm going to flash the ink into the ink bottle so as not to waste that ink. And to clean this Harley, You have to dismantle everything and have the fountain pen under running tap to clean it. Or you can dip this into glass of clean water and clean it. I find it easier and more convenient to clean this under running water. This food. A neat fun painting is one of my favorites. It's good. It's just under US $20, if I remember correctly. And this is in the Freudian niche, fountain pen. This is the Duke Confucius fallen pence. So this also has a bent nib, but there are some extra features. So you see this tab here. This tab can actually hold more ink. So you can actually use this pen as a deep pen and is fins here on the feed. They can also hold more ink. And because there's bed era here, this is much larger compared to the earlier today need. You can draw really brought strokes with this pen. This is how broad stroke can be and how thin it can be. So this pen actually does prove art and larger variety of thickness of weaves you can draw with. This is the platinum prep P fountain pen. This is a budget fountain pen that's made mostly of plastic. And this particular fountain pen comes with an ink cartridge. The ink has already been used up, so I'm just going to replace this with a refillable ink converter. This is the platinum ink converter and it fits perfectly. This is the pilot prayer, which is also quite affordable. And other football Penn for on pilot would be to pilot metropolitan. So for this pen, I have already replaced ink cartridge. We have this ink convertor. Now for beginners, I would recommend not spending too much on phone pens, just get something affordable such as this. The pilot prayer are platinum prep BY pilot metropolitan order, Lemmy Safari. Here's another fountain pen from pilot. This particular model actually has a beauty in ink converter. So is the twist typing convertor. It uses the body to hold ink, so this can hold a lot more ink compared to those smaller replaceable ink converters. This is a great pen if you want to bring overseas because you don't have to keep reloading. This can hold a lot of ink. This is also a pilot fountain pen. For this particular one, it uses vacuum suction to refute that ink and does hold chamber here can be filled with ink. So this can go even more in compared to the, the UPENN. So we have this piston here that creates a vacuum. And when you push down, the vacuum will break and ink will go rushing in. I do not recommend this pan because it's fun to use for awhile. But after that, it feels like a gimmick. This is my main fountain pen deceased, a pelican and 200, which is significantly more expensive compared to the budget fountain pens, but not that expensive compared to a luxury pens. So this particular pen, bozo has a beauty in, in converter. The nib that I have here is a finite, you get an extra fine, fine medium or brought NAEP. Usually the lies, they will be consistent as in thickness will be the same. For some fallen pens, you can actually press down harder to get a thicker line. There's finally is able to do so, but not for the extra offline and median. And you can also turned a fountain pen to the other site to draw with really thin lines. The Lemmy Safari nim is very stiff, so this can only produce lies of consistent Reeves off thickness. Soda fountain pens have extra flexor when you press down the neat would actually open up. And this will allow you to draw as much. Caroline. So those fountain pens will work just like depends. You can draw thin lines and he could press down hard to get really thick lines. But if the ink flow is not good, you are going to get railroading like this, where the ink is not able to catch up with how fast you are drawing. This pen is basically a pen holder with zebra agin IP. So there is no ink converter and this can only be used as a dip pen. So you have to keep deepen depend when the ink runs out. Let me show you some other special pens that I have. This is a Ben boop hen. So this part here, it's cut like a nib so you can actually take it in 2D ink bottle and draw with it and allies it can create. It will be different compared to either fountain pens. In this case here you can get really brushstrokes or you can draw from the sighted, Get Those are very textured lines. This is a glass pen. It's also used as a depends so he can dip it into the ink bottle and wrong of it. The layers it can create. Pretty consistent. So there's really no advantages to using this pen other than the fact that it looks pretty cool. Here's another depend. This nib is quite unusual. I'm actually not sure one brand this is, but you can see that it's bent and it's also a circular. And there is an extra tab at the top to Homo ink. So this can draw really thick lights and can draw thin lines as well. With the pens can produce such thick lines. It means it's going to use up a lot of ink. And here you can see it uses a lot of ink, so this would take a long time to dry completely. So the phone pairs that put out too much inks, the not that great for quick what a collar sketching, unless you don't my waiting for the next day to paint over your lines. So the fountain pens that produce a thinner lines, those are great for watercolor. My recommendations for a beginner who would be to get an extra find NAEP or a fine need, or you can get both. You don't have to spend too much on fountain pens. A fountain pen that is $20, we're fine. It will perform the same as a $200 fountain pen with a fine. After you have used your fun impenetrable wall, after you are very comfortable with your fountain pen, you can then go on to explore other fountain pen nibs. This particular one is a specialty niche by sailor and this is more than 500 US dollars. This specialty nib performs just like the food in him that I showed you earlier, except this is $20, so you don't really have to spend that much to get a pen to draw. Alright, to conclude, I do recommend you get a fountain pen is date off a disposable pen because these are more environmentally friendly and when it comes to using them, they are no different from disposable pants. My recommendation, as mentioned earlier, would be to get an Yaffe nip or find neat. Or if you can only buy one phone and pan, I recommend you get a foodie neat because it's just so fun to draw with. Anyway, afforded rung lessons later on you can use any pens you have as long as the ink is what a proof. In the next lesson, I will be talking more about inks. 3. Get the right ink: In the previous lesson, I showed you some pens. Now I want to show you inks, inks that you can use with brushes and pens, inks that when dry are suitable for use together with what cholera, when it comes to buying inks that are suitable for use with fountain pens and watercolor, there is only one thing you should know. Always look for pigment that instead specifically stated that they are safe for phone and Penn use. So for example, with this brand, the tremendous day make this series of inks caught type ink. Archive ink means this ink will not fit. It's archival, which means it's segmented. And here specifically states that it's meaningful fountain pen use. Here's another bottle for all the tremendous. This is document ink. It's drawing color and here it says that it's also safe for fountain pens, but there is no mention whether or not this ink pigment it. So to find that information, you have to go online and do some research. This is sketched Inc., which is also safe for use in phone pens. It's what approve when dry, so it's good to use with watercolor pigment that things have pigments which are physical particles, which are really small, but they are physical particles. So if you leave a bottle sitting around for too long, the particles may actually settled down at the bottom, which is why there is always this instruction that tells you to shake the bottle before US. And here specifically is this that you should avoid having the ink in your fountain pen. Drawing out. When you use those inks in the fountain pen, always make sure to caviar fountain pen properly to avoid the ink insight arm drawing out. When the ink dries out, the fiscal particles would be stuck inside is when a clock, the pen. And those fiscal particles cannot be dissolved in water. So you will have to dismantle your fountain pen up fully to script out those particles, which obviously is going to be quite tedious and inconvenient. If you already have a bottle of ink lying around somewhere in your home, go look at the area around a bottle opening and see you. There are physical particles, if there are means the ink as payment terms, and that may or may not be suitable for use with tone. And hence, this is platinum carbon ink. And those particles that you see there, those are not dust particles, those are pigments, pigment inks that are dried. Believe it or not, this ink is actually suitable for use in the phone pens. Just add when you see those fiscal particles, you have to be a bit more careful. If you have no intention of using alpha1 and pens for a few weeks, flush out of ink, cleaner fountain pen properly. These are the things I recommend for use in funding pens. If you can't catch their names, don't worry, I will provide you with a list of this inks arranged in order of my preference. So my favorite ink is sketch ink. That's the ink and this fountain pen. I have been using this ink for a few months and it flows really well. It dries rather quickly. And sketching is available in several different colors, so we get some variety. Some options you can choose from. The otra meant is they make a lot of inks and they have various colors as well. These are great. My next recommendation would be sailor QR grow and platinum carbon ink. I recommend sailor over the platinum, although both used in fountain pens. These are made with nano carbon particles, which means they are pinion dead as well. And my last recommendation would be new diverse and prove the black ink, which is this bottle here. This is a 90 ML bottle, which means ink can last for very long time. The bottles that I showed you earlier, those were 60 ML bottles. Now neutrinos, they make a lot of different colors. Not all colours are waterproof, so make sure you read the description on the bottle or on the website before you order. So Bulletproof black, it's waterproof. This Lexington gray here, it's also what approve but There's golden brown ink wasn't made by an odorless. It's not what a proof. If you wanted to use the inks with brushes or depends, go with a bottle that has a large openings so that you can reach the ink more easily. So this bottle, the sailor QR girl, it has these lush opening. So even when income levels are low, you can still deep depend into the bottle very easily. But if you choose a bottle with a small opening, then it's going to be a bit difficult, a bit more challenging for you to deep depend in. And also it's going to dirty the group here because this site here is going to heat this side of the opening. Same applies to the brush. So it is not uncommon to have a bottle of ink just for fun, a pen and add a bottle, just fall. Brushes. And speaking of brushes, you shouldn't mix what column brushes with ink brushes, things can be used with all sorts of brushes. If you want to use a brush with ink, then use that brush exclusively with ink because up there you paint with a brush, no matter how thoroughly you clean the hair, there will still be some mend, some ink in the rush, even if it's clear water coming out from the brush hair and pigment or the ink, you will make the hair hot and that branch will no longer be suitable for use with watercolor. To understand why that happens, you have to know how Inc. is mean. So India's made with carbon pigments mixed with a binder with water and some other ingredients to make the ink. What approve. So when the Incan dries, it basically means the binder, dry ice, the water will evaporate, Debye days left behind in dry ice and it coats the face. So you see this black part here, that's actually the binder or some other ingredient that coats the surface. So if you want to remove this ink, you actually have to scrape it off. It's not going to dissolve in water. And this thing is also on the brush, which is why the brush hair will harden. Now that I have shown you the fountain pen inks, let me show you the inks that you shouldn't use with fountain pens. This is speed boss of a blank, a type of India ink or China ink. This is Dr. ph. Martin Black Star, also an India ink into inks can come in different colors as well. This is also from Dr. ph. Martin Bombay series. This is golden yellow. This is also a type of India ink. When you see India ink, don't use it in their phone and pan because the pigments, they are usually larger compared to the pigments used to make a fountain pen inks. So the pigments are larger. They are definitely going to clog your fountain pen. This is a bottle I have not used for a very long time. The binder has separated from the pigment. The pigment is on the right side because these bottle was laid down like this. So debts to pigment and you have this pigments in a pen, it's going to clog the pen, is going to damage to pen. So when you see that was India ink or Chinese ink, lung bells should start to ring tone to use those things in pens. Any pens for this particular Inc. It's caddy ink. Meet my daily Roni. Here is say's that is non clogging pigment at what approved calligraphy in non clogging. Even though it says that it's non clogging. I see that with India ink or Chinese ink, I will not use it regardless of what other things they have on a description do not use ink with shellac. Shellac is sometimes add it to English to make it more what proof? So when the shellac is dry, it's going to form a coat over the ink to resist water. And that quote is quite permanent and almost impossible to remove. So here you see these depend. It has black parts on the nib. The sialic has dried and form a coat over inks. Whoa, this is perhaps difficult to remove even if I scratch it with my finger nails. I can't get off. So that's how permanent shellac is. So shallow that is to enemy off from parents. Do not use acrylic ink. Acronym behaves quite similarly to sialic. They will also form a coat over the ink. So here he says, I, it has best qualities upon a variety of services. So this is definitely not safe or using fountain pens for these particular bottle, they even show you the type of tools you can use with this ink. And fun pen is not listed here. This is Packer Quint. Now this ink is made by the fountain pen company Parkour. This ink is dye based income, which means there is no pigments insight. So this ink is safe or usually fountain pen that because this is diabetes Ink, this is not what approved when dry, so this is not suitable for use to get away with watercolor. Lastly, let's talk about pens and brushes. If you are not going to be using our fountain pens for weeks, clean your phantom hand, flush out the ink, Cuneate under running water and make sure it's clean and dry properly. If you kick me off fountain pen with ink for weeks, the ink may dry. If there's no ink, there is no way for it to dry. And if you are using a dip pen, always clean it after each. Use. For me our Jazz and run it under running water and then use dry tissue to dry the pen. It may be tempting to Julias put dependent way in your pen holder and use it the next time. This is what's going to happen. Ink will keep quoting the pen nib until it looks like this. And soon you won't even be able to flex the nip. All the ink may not even flow on the NAEP anymore. So this pen quota with lots of ink. And to get rid of the ink here, you won't be able to wash does away with water. You would actually have to script his off if you clean your hands regularly. Actually, this applies to all 2s depends. Brushes found them hands. If you clean your equipment, your 2s regularly, it's going to be very easy to maintain your 2s, but if you go and do a regular cleaning, the ink is going to boot up. So you have to do something extra to clean out the Inca. So let me try and remove these. Alright, this is very difficult to remove because shellac has dried, so this nib is stuck inside. I need something to actually pull it out. Let me just use this as an example because I clean this regularly. So it's very easy for me to pull out this panic. So if I went to clear away the ink that's on the NAEP, I can place it in the saucer. I actually wanted to use this half pan up. Sorry fool Penn, waterfall, what? Watercolor? But it's too big for this. So I'm just going to place it here. And I can use this bombay pen cleaner rotating. They also make pen cleaning fluid. Wrote stream is available in a larger bottom. This is much smaller bottle. I highly recommend you get lacZ bottle of Penn cleaning liquid because this can't get used up quite fast. So all you have to do is to use grease. Some of these pen cleaning, liquid or solution to cover depends. David, overnight and the ink will actually dissolve. After the income dissolves, you just have to dry the pen nib or your fountain pen. And it will look as good as new if you're using ink with brushes. There are actually substantiate our MIS specifically for cleaning brushes. So this is one of them does is caught them musters brushed cleaner and preserver. So after you clean your brush under the Running tab, when it's clean, a 3D screen it further by using the brush. So this will help remove the shellac and the binder from the hare, basically to make the brush soft so that it can be used and next time. So to conclude, the inks here, these are meant to be used with depends and brushes. India ins, China's things always used them with depends on Russia's never used them in fountain pens. And also not all India inks are what approve. So do read the description and the inks here. The ah, say for us we have fun pens, they are waterproof when trying. You can use them with watercolor, different tools and supplies for different purposes. Right? In the next lesson, I will be talking about what a color. 4. Types of watercolor: Hello and welcome back. In this lesson, I'm going to show you the supplies you will need to paint. What color? Obviously, you will need some watercolor, watercolour brush. Two cups of water, one communists for cleaning. What carbon brush? Yellow color is for clean water and a tissue for cleaning up, for clearing mystics off or creating special effects. And you need watercolor paper so you can have a suface to paint on. So what can I as a medium as that, it's actually made up of pigments that are grounded and q, they are very fine and is being mins can come in all sorts of colors. And that money is mixed with a binder, which is a sort of Greece substance that is what is soluble. And sometimes manufacturers Amy, true in some other ingredients, but all you need to know is it's pigment plus binder. The binder that is used will determine the type of watercolor products that can be produced. So all this watercolor products in different forms. So typical watercolour products, we'll use gum Arabi. I'm not sure what's to bind it, its use here, but it allows you to create this blocky shape. And when you apply water, it's also water soluble. And you can make watercolor pencils as well. So we can draw with the welcome pencils. And when you apply what onto the lines, the lines we'll dissolve. And here we have liquid watercolour. There is no specific mention on one binder is used in this bottle. And here I have two sets of what a colored crayons. This set here is water soluble. This set here is not water soluble and is water resistance. So depending on the binder you use, the product that you have, they will have different characteristics. So even if two products can look exactly the same, they will behave slightly differently. Each watercolor product will have its advantages and disadvantages. So for example, we have what are called Pencils. You're gonna use them to draw on, but these are not great for painting. Large paintings of what a color. For our class, we will be dealing with traditional watercolor. Watercolor debt's available in Cuba. This which can be five or 15 ML. Or in Penn sets like this, the quality of what a colour can be divided into two categories. Student greed and artists greet. Generally speaking, you do get what you pay for. So if you buy cheaper student grade paint, the paint will have mob binder and fuel compared to pigments or the colors are not going to be as vibrant. Which means if you want to really bore vibrant colors that you have to use a lot of paint and you are going to be using up that paint quite quickly. And then you will have to spend money to replace the paint. If you get art, his grid paint. You can use them for much longer because the colors are very vibrant so you don't have to use a lot of paint to achieve to seem intensity. So even though these are expensive, they can last you for much longer time. My recommendation for humans would be to buy a set. Usually you, when you buy a set auto necessary Calas I included more specifically in this set, they will have yellow, red, and blue. So this pen set here has 12 colors and there's yellow, red, and blue, the essential colors for mixing. And in this tube set here with just five colors, there is yellow, red, and blue as well. Green is a convenient color. You can actually make green with yellow and blue, but they included green because it's very convenient because sometimes when he painted green landscape plans, you need to mix a lot of greens and didn't have it premix while you, and this is burnt sienna, some sort of browns and you can use to make some grey with you. You can also mix grays with this three primary colors. But they have included both Sienna because it's a convenient colour. This used to be a Penn set like this, but I have scenes to use up the colors and so on. This were actually squeezed from watercolor 2pz. It's actually more economical to buy what to call it keeps like this and squeezed ME into Penn's pens are dissolved plastic trees. So this is a fool Penn, and this is a half pen. The half pan allows you to have many colors because it's quite small. You can feed a lot of this into what other books? A foo pan, well, the surface area is larger, so this allows you to work with larger watercolor brushes, which means you campaigned on larger pieces of paper more easily. This box, I have a mixture of foo and half pen. So for a fluke hands, I have colors that are used very frequently that I use a lot for half pans I have colleagues that I seldom use for beginners, I do not recommend you buy too many colors. Buying a pen set is great, but don't buy more than maybe Child colors. Typical pen sets will come with just shove colors and sometimes they even have a watercolor brush include it. But usually the quality of the Brazi is Dante read on a branch may be just too small. So don't buy too many cars because when it comes to column mixing, it can get confusing really quickly. And if you wanted to buy what color tubes, just by primary colors to stuff, you can't get inspiration from the colors that are included incest. So by different companies, what to call it tips like this, I best use that home, whether we can use them on those as well. But having a pen set we've dried and what a colour like this. This is more convenient and very portable. You can bring them and He where and when does it is dry. You can just keep the box in your bag very easily. Now if you want to buy what a collar, 2pz, two squeezed up painting depends like this. Do not by what a cholera with honey. Then because honey moisture from the air. So if all this pain have honey them, they will all be wet from the moisture absorb from the air. And when you keep this box in your back, the paint is going to throw out some brands with honey in them would be M Greer ham, CINAHL EA Jackson's art. White Nights. Anyway, my suggestion is to just get what I call a pans like this when you are studying out because they are more convenient when you're more familiar with what a color you can go onto by what are called tubes and experiment with different colors. It's a very fun learning process because each color has their own characteristic. If you are not using a watercolor box like this with wells for mixing paint, then you will need to buy a pellet or mixing trait such as the one that I have here. This is made with plastic. It's light weight, very particle. And this is me with parceling much Havi year. The difference between these two is plastic. It gets Dean varies, leaves, IDA stints here and these are almost impossible to remove. Which is actually not a big deal for me. But some people with Amy like mixing era to be clean. Possibly. It's very easy to clean and they do not steam, so it's very easy to wipe off or to clean off stays like this. These are some painted left over from the previous painting session. What a colour can be reactivated. So if you have paint on your pellet, don't clean them out. You can still use them for your next painting session. If you have painted left in the mixing well of your pellet box may show this as drawing. Make sure everything is dry before you close your box. And if you happen to be living in an area where humidity is high, the paint may appear wet and glossy. Now, paint can attract more, more will appear as white spots, all white powder on your paint. And once it infects your paint, it's going to affect articles. It's going to spread. And he may even spread to other, what I call it boxes. You may have prevention is better than cure. So it's very important to prevent mold from grueling and to prevent move from growing. You can choose not to close your box completely so that egg elite through the box ID, you want to close this completely, please, your box under some light sauce. I like to put my what I call a boss beside the window where the sunlight can reach them Box so he will heat up the box. And preventable from growing. Watercolor brushes are available in different shapes and sizes, so the shape will determine the use for the brush. So for example, here I have a flat brush is, is obviously useful painting. Latch areas because this brush can cover a huge area. Ground brushes like this are the workhorse or what a Tala painting. So a good round brush will have a sharp tip. This allows you to paint dequeues, thin lines and rich induce small areas. And it should have enough hair so that it can do it enough paint onto the brush so they don't have to keep reloading. So the round brush is versatile because it can draw thin lines and thick lines depending on the pressure you apply. And it can also be used to cover large areas like this. Brush sizing is not standard across different companies. For begins, I do recommend as size six. Sizes six watercolor brushes are great for painting on paper up to NIH by trough inches. And for painting his sketchbooks that are smaller than this size, it is not uncommon to own a lot of watercolor brushes so little that it's continue make you spend like a lot of money. But getting a round brush is a must because desk, most versatile brush for painting, you can get different sizes. Different sizes also have different purposes. So obviously a big brush, we'll allow you to paint and cover a larger area. A small brush like this will allow you to pin D Hughes more easily. You can certainly use these bigger brush to paint. It did use because it has a sharp hip. But when you have this brush on the pen on the watercolor is going to soak up a lot of paint. And sometimes you don't want that because what do you want? He's just to pain maybe a line or TDD or one to use debt much paint and waste that much pain. Just who draw some small details as why. It's sometimes good to go with a smaller brush force, smaller details. Brushes can have wooden handles like this, or they can come in this collapsible format. This particular one, I can twist and cap it. So this is very convenient for bringing out a DOS before you cap it, make sure that the tip is sharp so that's easier to put the cap on. You've to Harriet is too fluffy and you put a cap on damage to her. So when the water column brush is like this, it's very compact for portable and sometimes for smaller brushes he can't even feed. Then insight watercolor box. This particular one is too big for this box. So I have it usually in my pocket. But as you can see, this is very portable. And the quality of such brushes, it's is the same as wooden brushes. So most of the brushes that I have that I used outdoors are actually pocket brushes like this. This particular brush is the Da Vinci costs on your, there used to be some label here, but I have used is prices so much debt, debt label worn off. This is a size eight, so it's larger compared to the size six. And cosine o is available with different shapes. See this fluffy hair brush. Once I add water to it, it can taper too. Yup. Point S1. And this is also a da Vinci cosine n u. And this is a size to notice, decides to, it actually has more hair compared to this size. It. So different types of brushes. They used the friend sizing standards. And another difference between this two brushes is Herodotus used. So does brush, it's actually made, we've saved O'Hare. Sable is a type of anemone and hair. Can XM a lot of paint and water so you don't have to constantly reload the brush and that hair can taper back to a point very easily. But some people may not want to use watercolor brushes with Jeremy, with animal hair. So that's why you have synthetic brushes. And this Da Vinci Casino in uses and hair. And it performs quite similarly. It huge sable hair. So this is the brand and the model that I recommend nowadays to most people who ask me about what to call it brushes. And the last thing I wanna talk about is watercolour paper. Out of the three things you need to paint, watercolour, paint, brush and paper. Paper is most important. You can save money on paint and brushes. But if you save money on paper by getting lousier quality paper, it's going to affect your painting experience negatively. More specifically, the colors. They are not going to be looking as vibrant as they can be. And also sitting Waikato techniques are very challenging on lousier paper. When you buy watercolor paper, make sure you buy paper that is made specifically to use with watercolor. So on the cover here you see watercolor obviously leases suitable for what a color. Here, there's water cholera as well. If you buy watercolor sketch book, do read the description. So there's no label here. This is actually a custom sketchbook with a 100% cotton watercolor paper. But otherwise, read the description first before you buy. The reason is because wanna call a paper is treated specially to handle paper. If you are just painting with normal paper, the water we would just sweep through the paper. So what the color paper, the actually sized by size. I mean, they have a play some sought of Tirole. So substance on the paper or internally within the paper to basically affect how the paper results water. The paper, we would need to absorb some water so that it can pull in the water and the paint, the colors. But he cannot absorb so much water that the water passes through the paper. That's obviously not good. And how much water the paper can that's affected by the sizing debt supply on the paper. By the way, sizing, it's not the same meaning as sizes. Sizing is not about big and small sizing is the process where the gelatin to the paper too. Affect absorbency of the paper. Watercolor paper comes with three types of texture diaries. This move, there is the cold press which gives you this very nice texture, Luke. And there is Rav, which is, well, really rough. Go for the cold press textured paper. This is the paper weight. This particular watercolor paper has 300, yes. And pay Pr, which is the weight that I will usually recommend. You can go with paper to save money, maybe 200 gs m. But in a paper they will buckle Mall when you apply what are on it. And for this particular paper, it uses 25% cotton. The best quality watercolor paper is made. We have a 100% cotton. Paper is going to be very durable so you can paint layers upon layers to Calas, we'll blend very beautiful Lee and the paper is very durable so you can actually screw up out the paint if you want to, to correct mistakes and the sizing fall. Those paper usually top quality so they are able to handle Calas really well, as in the colors will appear vibrant when you paint on the paper. So here does paper has twenty-five percent cotton. Actually the coil does paper is no different for all paper we felt and he called him contents. So if you're serious about your work goal with a 100%, if it's anything less than a 100% by 7550%, 25, all those paper, I've tried a lot of paper. All those people that use less than a 100% cotton, if they are just not as good compared to you, a 100% cotton paper, unfortunately, a 100% cotton watercolor paper. It's significantly more expensive compared to non Colton watercolor paper. Anyway, fall my class, I will be using non cotton watercolor paper. What a tar paper is available in different standard sizes. So this particular one is seven by ten inches. Nick's size up, that's a fall. And the next one that's larger than does is my BY trough. And I buy 12 years the size I would recommend to be Ina's. It's big size. Which is nice because if you want a small piece of paper, you can actually just cut the big piece of paper. But if you start out with something small like this, you wouldn't be able to make the paper larger. You can also buy watercolor paper in sketch books like this. It's a personal preference personally, I prefer sketch books. If you are a beginner and you use what color blocks like this. And you just practice you if you don't like no, well, you can just hair to paper and Troy, that way. We have a sketchbook like this. You can practice and you can track your progression. So when you have beginner here the first few pages they mean look a bit rough. But as you progress and practice twist and you can see your progression and that is something I find to be quite satisfying. There are lot of watercolor products out there so it can get overwhelming when it comes to choosing the pained to brushed paper. So I'm gonna give you a list of my recommended products to ones that I really enjoy using. The ones that are really value for money, ones that are not that expensive. You can download the list from the class notes. Alright, in the next lesson, we will draw. 5. Let's draw: Alright, in this lesson we are going to get some hands on exercise. Make sure you have your pen and paper ready, and make sure that your pan has waterproof ink and paper. They're using its watercolor paper because in the next lesson we will be painting over real line up with what a color. So the thing that I'm going to draw will be My, what a colored palette, EPR, what to call a patent doesn't look like this. Doesn't matter. You draw your own pellet. And if you don't have a water color palette, you can actually look around your home and phi simple objects to draw. For example, this Assam and 3D letters they belong to my daughter. I sketched them here and here's the cup that I used to haul all my pens and pencils. So this is the sketch. Now, notice I did not draw or depends. So with art, you can actually choose not to draw everything actually. What you leave out, what you don't draw is as important as what you draw. If you are going to be taking a photograph of this cup with audio stationary in it. It's going to look exactly as it is, but we've art, you can actually choose what you want to. Good for beginners try to pick something simple to draw. So for example, here I have a cube with all these protrusions here. And after you get comfortable with drawing can change the angle of your subject. Or you gonna flip it upside down just to get more practice. And this cushion Bob belongs to my daughter as well. So I have drawn it here. Notice there are a lot of patterns here, but I chose not to draw those patterns. So sometimes when you're drawing, you have to make a choice as to whether or not you want to include like order details. In this case here. If I were to draw all these patterns with pen and ink, it's gonna make this sketch looks really busy because there's going to be a lot of the line artists. So in this case here, I chose to simply find by not drawing that patents, I only drew the beak shapes. Let's take a look at this. What color palette that I'm going to draw, Nivea wonder, draw exactly the same thing that I am drawing. You can download a photo of this palette from the class notes. So let's analyze this box first. Now, there is this rectangular shape that all lapsed. Cover behind messy his pot here. It actually overlaps tower behind. So later on when we draw, we need to make sure to draw this first before we draw the cover which is in the back ground. And this is quite an easy subject to draw because it's very angular. And all the ships, when been bigger ships, they are sort of divide it into smaller ships and the ships actually solve similar in size. So it's easy to subdivide the smallest ships to draw. I'm gonna place a photo of this pellet on the left side so you guys can see what I am drawing. The watercolor paper. I'm using this as. Fabriano studio, if twenty-five percent cotton, it's 300 GSM and a texture is cold press. You can use any watercolor paper and is falling pendant I'm using, this is a sailor fountain pen with a zoom nib. I'm not using this pen because I'm feeling fancy today. I'm using this because this NAEP can produce a very thick line, which makes it easier for the camera to capture and for you guys to see before I sketch anything, I usually like to take some time to analyze what I'm drawing. So for this particular alert, I'm going to start by drawing their ship verse. I need to visualize how much space it's going to take on the paper. So if I draw this rectangle, this big, I will not be able to fit the cover, which is almost as big SUM rectangle. So I need to draw the rectangle a bit smaller so that I can fit the cover. When you are drawing, tried to spend more time to observed and looking at your sketch. So I'm going to measure the angle of this first. And I'm going to use my pen and basically stretch on my arm and align it today and go there. It looks like I mean, if you are using a clock face to measured angle, it would be a two o'clock. So it would be something like this. This is a rectangle, so the long side will be longer compared to the shorter side. Keep that in mind and we can draw it a shot site. Now, this line is almost parallel to this line and it will stop here. And the design of this palace such that egos insight and then comes down like this. And we can join the lines together. Now there are some volume to the box, so let's draw the volume mislead us side of the box. So this line, it's almost vertical but it's actually not Institute at slightly. So that's why you need to really spend time to observe what you are drawing. When you're drawing, always think of where the line is going to start, where it's going to end in relation to other things that you have already drawn. So now I have this basic rectangular shape. I can divide things that i inside. I see five rows, three rows, and two small rows. So let me draw this small rule. First three thick roast for the word hello pens one. And for this last rule, I see the site. So I can draw this down like this. I can see a bit off the side of this wall here. Here. There are some plastic parts that are truly is free to push this wall. Now. There are too many lines here so it can get confusing. It has reached line represents what. So sometimes what I like to do is to Draws something to help me know where I am. So I'm gonna draw this f2 pen here to let me know that this pen is between these two long lines. Ok, so for the first row here I see four through water color pens. So I'm going to draw one here. Make sure you get the angles right. It should be easier now because you are drawing within the shape. But if you are just drawing the water color pens alone, without ships, without alliance, without the other lines. Make sure to get the angles right just by measuring. And don't worry if you are not drawing accurately. Just takes some practice to be more familiar with Detroit process, especially when you are drawing straight off inc without any pencil, draft. K. So for the middle rule, there are 566 small half pens and one group heads. So here you can see for the 2p hands, I have drawn the site of the full pens because I can actually see them. When it comes to drawing. You may not need to include all those information. So for example, here, I'm just drawing the half pens like this. I'm not going to draw the site of the pens. I mean, if you want to you can draw the sight of depends. But if you don't want to, you can choose not to draw that because that's actually not as important compared to the shape of the pen itself. I mean, sometimes when you are drawing, if you're growing really fast and you want to finish sketch very quickly, just draw the important things. And in this case, the important things would be the shape of the pen, but not the site of the pen, which is last important, relatively speaking. For the last rule, we have three flu pence. One here, one here, this half pens here, and one here. I drew this pot here because there is the cover dies behind. So base pot will overlap the cover debts behind. It's gonna start here, not here. And this is actually shot a competitive, this. You really have to observe to notice DOD it, we'll stop here because there is this latch here. And then it comes down like this. Like this. Okay? See the problem that I have here. These latch, it doesn't appear to be in the center of these two points here. So that's a learning point. So sometimes when you're drawing, you may make mistakes, in this case it, or this is a mistake. We're at pleased the position of this lecture we're only. So what I could have done is maybe draw a bit up the line here and draw a bit off the line here and see where I am and then draw the ledge. So drawing, sometimes it's about problem-solving. And for this particular cover, there is actually some thickness to it. But in this case I will choose not to draw the thickness because well simplification. Now there are six mixing wells in the center. So if you are using a fountain pen, you can actually turn your pen upside down to draw those wells with thinner lines. And we're going to draw those wells with three noise as thin as I can. 12. Now you can clearly see this latch here, hits out of position, but doesn't really matter. I mean, sometimes when you're drawing, just enjoy the process and don't really, I mean, don't criticize your own work. Because every drawing really is a learning process. And the more you draw, the better you will get. Now one of the main reasons why I am drawing this mixing wells with penalizes cause. I mean, you can draw it with thick lines, of course, but by drawing it, we have a thin ice. I'm giving emphasis to this shape. The box, which was drawn with thicker lines for the side of this pellet here I left out something by mistake and I'll show you what I left out. So when you are not paying attention to your subject, when you're not observing very closely, sometimes you may leave out something. So this part here has this semi-circle thing that goes down all the way. And this is the site of the palate. And this is what, a colour pen one. So this part here, that's what I left out. Every mistake is an opportunity for you to learn. So I have this part here where I left out And is part here where the position is wrong. So it's no big deal actually, because when you look at the overall sketch, you can still tell what's being drawn. And that is more important than those little mistakes. Here's a close up on this catch so you can see the wobbly lies somewhat aligns the unknown joined properly. There are some ink blobs here and there, some imperfections, some a big lines on this creates variety and make your sketch look more interesting. So here you can see the lines, Hey, come out of this line, overlapped align, which they shouldn't. But it's okay. It gives the sketched, a sketchy look. And here you can see this line and this line, they are not straight. You don't have to draw a perfectly straight line to portray or show a straight line as to beauty with art. In the next lesson, we will color this ink sketch with what color? By the way, if you guys want more practice, you can download the extra reference photos that I have provided. One of the photos is of this cup or MAC with all their pens and pencils in it. I will give you different angles. One of the angle will be something like this. One would be like this, and maybe a three quarter view their photos of this boy as well. When drawing this ball, try not to draw the details, just focus on the big ships, right? Doesn't go drawing all these details. Actually, you can paint the details with brush later on. I will also provide different angles of this plot. Alright, go have fun and draw. 6. Adding watercolor: And now we can hint before we start, make sure you have a watercolor brush, preferably a brush that can produce a sharp tip. This particular brush I'm using is the silver black velvet. If you have a watercolor palette box debts grit because it should come with a covered there you can use for mixing colors. If you are using what a colored cubes and you don't have mixing trees. Make sure you have what color? Palette, puzzling or plastic palette for mixing colors. And make sure you have two cups of water there. First thing I wanna do is to add some water to the and to make the Pinto wet so that it's easier to pick up the paint with my watercolor brush. Usually I just add a few drops of water to the cause that I want to use. And in this case I'm going to use all of them, so I need to add water to all of them. If you have this spray bottle or water, MR. And that's the name of this bottle. Just pray onto to pinned visits so much easier. And it is very portable. So I always bring this outdoors with me whenever I'm using watercolors, hoped doors. So let's just pick up the paint and just pinto mixture. You pick up the paint. The site of the brush dawns, step the brush into the paint. And to paint it the next color you have to wash the brush. If you pick up the next color with this brush is gonna have yellow and orange. So you use one cup for cleaning the brush and clean the brush again with the other cup. And this will also give you clean water, is, is to clean the brush thoroughly. So now you can pick up the next color. Depending on where you are. If the humidity in your environment, it's quite low as in Go areas dry, the pinned can try quite fossil. You may constantly, you may need to constantly reworked a print. And once you're done with color, in wash it, with dirty cup or a cup of water and clean the brush again with the clean water and pick up the next color. So continue to do this with all the colors until you fewer articles here when you are painting, pay close attention to your subjects or this particular pen. This is supposed to be yellow, but there is some blue to it, some colour contamination. So I can actually add some blue to it just like this. And clean my brush again before I pick up the next color. You can also use some of the colors here and add it to the mixing trace. Some of the paint may actually come out of the pan. So you can print them that way. Sometimes you may see a little bit of the white of the pen, the plastic pen, so it can leave some white there. Now for this particular piece of plastic up here, it's very dirty. So I can actually mix a lot of colors here to make this dirty. But make sure that you don't paint this collar in 2D existing colours, otherwise the colors would blend together. So what I mean is this, Let's say I have view here. This wash it still wet. And if I add another color to it, when it's still wet, the colors are going to blend and they're going to spread out. So if you don't want the blue and this red or purple to mix, make sure they don't mix. Yeah. Make sure they don't mix pink DEM side-by-side, but make sure they don't mix. If the wash is still wet and the colors are in contact, the colors will land. So this is what I have. So farm. Now I'm going to paint some shadows. I have light source coming from this direction. So there are shadows on the right side. To mix the shadows I, which is going to be grey in color. I can use the three primary colors and mix them together at coloured bit by bit. Don't use too much yellow, too much red or blue start with just a tiny little bit. If you use too much yellow, you'll realize that you will need to use a lot of blue to create deck gray. So if you start with just a little bit of yellow, then you can add a little bit of red and a little bit of blue so as not to waste too much paint. So this looks like a nice Re to me. It doesn't really matter which yellow R3. And do you use as long as it's a yellow, red, and blue sit. Combinations of primary colors will produce a beautiful grease. Certain combinations will produce very yucky graves. And try to have the greys are, try not to mix the car's completely in the pellet here. So you can see with this wash, I can still see the red and some new, which is nice when you paint the grace. And you can still see the individual colors that are, that were used to mix the grace. You can produce very beautiful washes. So for example here, this wash, when it's still wet, Maybe I can add a little touch of red to it just to make it a little bit more, just to make this more magenta or more violet and looking. And if, let's say this wash its two purple, look to purple or there's too much violet. You can add a little bit of yellow to it just to shift a color wave from purple or violet. And if it looks wrong, just add a little blue to it. Basically you just use the three primary colors and mix them together. Just shift the colors around. Now here, there is too much do because this blue that I'm using, this little blue, it's a very strong color. So if you use a tiny bit of the little blue is going to appear very blue. So you want to be careful when you use southern colors. You will get to know the colors the more you paint a sudden colors are really incredibly vibrant. And you just need to use a tiny bit of those colors case. So that's pin the shadows here as well. This pellet is actually quite dirty so I can actually add some dirt. Ideally, when you're painting your one, some colors to be vibrant, some colors to be down so that the vibrant colors they can stand up. And there is this part here which is in shadow as well. What a collar takes time to dry them. So now I want to paint a second layer to make certain areas darker. I have or eating wheat at ten minutes for most of this to dry. So now I want to paint on this part here to make it darker. I'm going to use a mix of ultramarine and burnt sienna. And this is ultra marine makes we've burnt sienna, I get a nice degree. So in addition to mixing graze using three primary colors, yellow, red, M Do you can also use oil drum arena, but Sienna, mix race. There are countless ways to mix Greece simply because there are countless number of colors out there. So here I'm gonna make this Walsh darker. For certain areas when it's still wet. I will want to charge in some color basically at paint to make it darker. When painting tried to paint with one's joke. Though not keep on going back to paint over it again and again is going to make the stroke or the washed. They're very messy. For this part here maybe I want to paint the Year two. And additionally it just to make it a bit darker, right thing they should do it. And now I'm going to wait for this to dry before I add some texture to this sketch. This is now drive, so make sure to wash your brush in the dirty cup and then in the clean cup. And then we want to pick up some very pure clean color. Make sure that the paint is a thick. And you can use a stick. Or in this case, I used this bird here. And I'm going to run the brush against the metal pot here to create a splatter. This is a very easy way to create splatter umax to create texture. Before you switch to the next color, make sure to wash your brush again. So I have loaded hint what color it is transparent, so try to load a lot more, paint them water. Otherwise your split a mux or they are going to look transparent. I'm going to have some laterally here as well at, on the copper K, depending on what you are drawing or painting, you may or may not need the splatter mux. Another way that I used HEW add texture is to add little dots. 2d sketch. If you wanna do is make sure your wash a watercolor, wash its dry. Otherwise, when you that your ink into the wash, its going to spread out and make a mass. So this is the complicated sketch. See how well the watercolor works over the waterproof ink. Here's a closer look. Notice this part here. I did not paid within the lines. If you are someone who is neat and tidy, you may want to paint within the lines. You can do so of course, but you don't have to, if you don't want to. There are different ways to express art. So here you can see some colored blends. And notice this spot here. This is actually quite representative of my watercolor palette. You see here for this orange color there, is that spot there as well. That makes it. So this is kind of accurate, even though it's not exactly on the orange. You don't have to paint exactly what you see. You can use your own artistic license. Sometimes it's good to have the color's feet from light to more concentrated color. And sometimes it's good to have the colors blend from one to the other. See the beautiful splatter mux here. These are the dots created by Inc.. So I hope you had fun painting your palate. Do share with me your sketch. You can upload it on skew share. And then I will have a look and give you some comments on how to improve. 7. Quick guide to color mixing: Hello and welcome to this last lesson. This is actually a bonus lesson on color mixing. By the way, I do have a color mixing cause on SlideShare and you may want to check that out if you wanted to learn more about color mixing, this video is just going to give you a very brief overview on mixing your own colors. Bright. Primary colors are what you will need to mix all other colors. So primary colors are yellow, red. And so here I have 100 PSI yellow. I'm not exactly sure what this is, but this is the little blue regardless of which yellow ray and do you have as long as it's a yellow, red, and blue, you will be able to mix all the colors that you want. You may not be able to mix the exact color you want. Like for example, you may not be able to mix this specific green, but you will be able to make some sort of green. And you do need to make that specific green in order to help me build in. It's a green. So we've yellow and you can mix them together to form an orange. Oops, notice here my brush wasn't cleaned completely. So there are some blue in it. And with blue and yellow, it produces these green. What I wonder is actually orange. So let me have yellow and some RED. I can mix the paint on paper. And this is the orange I can get. I can of course use this orange that is in my palate. In fact, let me just use it and just see how it looks side-by-side. It's gonna be a different orange compared to the one that you mix. And sometimes it's good to mix your own colors because you get to see variations of colors. So in this case here you can see the yellow and the red that's used to mix the orange. When it comes to mixing, let's say RED with Lou. Let's see what we have here. This is red. And we'll wash my brush very clean. And at some value to it. We have red and blue. You should get purple. But you can see here, I don't actually have purple. So certain colors. They have their own characteristics and hearing may not seem intuitive because really I'm do should give you purple but not in this case. So the mix purple, you actually have to use colors that are already quite close to purple on the color wheel. In this case, it'll be outrun and ring. And a coup rate, which is close to being purple. So this is purple or violet. Let me show you the colour, the red that I used to mix this puzzle, this system that I use to mix this bubble. Now these rate is not the same as disarray. And to mix green it would be yellow. And scientists this ring. Let me show you a quick tip on how you can mix them most vibrant colors you can ever mix. Say for example, you want to mix a vibrant orange. This orange share data and look at your palette that kinda cows that you have and see what are the colors that are closest to this orange, without it being the orange obviously. So in this case here it would be a warm yellow or a warm red. So look in your palate and see what warm yellow or one race you have. So in this case here, I can use this orange, which is actually a warm yellow together with this one rate to produce a vibrant orange. Earlier on, I used, I used this yellow and this one rate, which produced this orange, which is actually not too that. Now to mix a vibrant purple, you will need a crew rate and a coup blue. So if you use these CDs read, it's further away from this purple compared to this rate, which is, you can call this a magenta. But it's also known as COO rate. So you can use these cool rate or magenta and mix it with this blue that's already close to purple. Earlier on I use ultramarine. So ultra Marine, with this query, you're gonna get a really vibrant purple. So the reason why earlier on I used is this one red and blue mixed together and produce this thing discolored. It doesn't look any where near like a purple because that blue is new or this blue. And when I mix it with this rate, does two colours. They are very far away from the purple. So when I mix them to gather, they are going to produce a color that is very dull. In fact, when you mix colors that are opposite on the color wheel, if you mix yellow and purple, you are gonna get agree. If you mix this blue and orange, or this blue and this orange, you're gonna get it green. Which is why when I'm mixed disagreed. And this blue, they're kind of opposite. Saudi neutralize each other to produce these very dark color. So if you want something really vibrant, use colors, they are already using primary colours data already close to each other. Say for example, you want to mix a very vibrant green. You take a look at the color wheel. You can see what colors you need. You need a yellow, a pure yellow. And who knew? If you use this one, blue, which is kinda opposite the yellow, you're not going to get a very vibrant yellow green like this. So that's how you can use a color wheel to give you some ideas on how to mix vibrant colors. Remember the boy that I showed you, go and replicate the colors that you see here. Try and replicate the orange. You see the orange here, the purple here and green here, and orange share. Don't use orange to paint orange, try and use the primary colors to mix the colors that you see here. It's really good practice for colour mixing. So if you want to learn more about color mixing, and you want to learn more about the characteristics of each color. Do checkout mice Lucia cause on color mixing. 8.
