About This Class

Learn to draw stylized animal characters in your style with easy and accessible exercises. Drawing fearlessly on the blank paper like kids do inspired me to come up with these exercises to create any number of animal characters. Playing with different mediums like watercolours, pencils, crayons, or markers will help to let your creative juices flow.

For me, stylization means simplifying things from an artist's point of view to the extent that it maintains its legibility, representing or designing according to the artist's style; it's about what we can draw away from reality or nature with the required information.

We will start with everyday household items and transform them into stylized works of art, then explain shape language, shape variation, size variation, line work, and more, further about creating different animal shapes. I will tell you about the various stylized facial features and body parts.

Then, move to the colour blob exercise, where you will learn to experiment with different shapes and features and turn stains into creatures.

Then, in the last activity, about collage making, you will learn the ultimate method of creating unique animal characters.

All these exercises are methods to get creative and can be applied anywhere in your art, and will also help you to develop your style.

Watch my first class, which is about drawing animal heads.

1. Introduction: If you have always wanted to draw stylized animal characters that show your style, but need to know where and how to start. This is the class for you get ready to only show creativity with my easy to follow methods for drawing stylized animal characters. Hi, I'm I have been teaching art for two decades. My expertise lies with the kids and how kids can draw anything less excites me in the most, that's why I created this class for me. Stylization means simplifying things from an artist's point of view to the extent that it maintains its liability representing or designing according to the artist's style. It's about what we can draw away from reality or nature with the required information. Get ready to dive into the world of stylization with the first lesson, where you will take everyday household items and transform them into stylized worlds of art. Then explain shape language, shape variation, size variation, line work, and more further about creating different shapes. Then I will tell you about the variety of stylized facial features and body guards. Then move further to the color glove exercise, where you will learn to experiment with different shapes and features and turn strains into creatures. Then in the last activity, which is about the collage making, you will learn the ultimate method of creating unique animal characters. All these exercises are the methods to get creative, can be blind anywhere in your art. It will also help you to develop your style. I sit at watching my first class which is about drying animal heads. But if you don't do very as there will be a little recap of that class which is crucial to know before drying animal characters. This class is for everyone who wants to develop a scale in character design. It is for wegner hobbies and those who wish to pursue a career as our children's book illustrator. After taking this course, you can improve overall art skills, ultimately leading to our potential career opportunities. The essential requirements for this course is only apprehensive and a piece of paper, although I have used an ipad, create your project for this class is to complete all the exercises with the resources provided. I encourage you to take inspiration from this class, get creative, and complete the project in your style. So glad you are here. Let's get started. 2. Project: Your project for this class is to complete all the three exercises with the resources provided. You can use a sketch book to complete all the exercises for this course. Although I have I paid with procreate for this whole class. If you have procreate, drying will become more fun as you only make and delete. An first exercise is about the simplification, where you will use pictures of household items provided in the resources section or use your favorite items, Follow my street and complete the exercise. The second exercise is about the color blobs. You create pages with shades of color blobs. But it will be much better if you make color blobs and then complete the exercise following my method. For the last exercise, which is the color technique, I provide many pictures of collage examples. Follow my process and try different approaches to create animals in your style. Remember, style is something that belongs to you the way you want your character to be. Experimenting and trying different methods and approaches is always important. This kind of homework will help you start dry animals as there will be much more fun playing with different shapes and facial features. Just memory all the animal dry taps. Finally, upload the project under summit project section, make it funds. And then upload the image which will be the cover image. You can upload a picture you like most in your project, give it a title writer description, and add photos from other exercises. You can upload videos or add links to your work or video. I encourage you to go through this whole process. If you are really into learning something new, I suggest doing all these exercises on your own is the perfect way to know. I recommend taking inspiration from this class. Let you create ice flow and complete the project in your life. I can't wait to see your creations. After learning from this course, let's move to the first lesson of this course, which is about the simplification process. I suggest to go through the whole horse step by step to practice and non skill. 3. Simplification Process: In this lesson, you will learn about the fundamental principles of the stylization process. These principles will guide you to stylize almost anything. I have divided the whole simplification process into three simple steps. First step is to simplify the shapes, then add concepts of big, medium, and small. The third one is adding all the possible combinations by exaggerating or by simplifying form. To make it more understandable, I'm using pictures of simple household items, like flower verses, decorative items, poetry or anything. I find it step here, it is. A picture of a flower verse combining simple and complex shapes. This flow chart will guide you step by step. First, I will desaturate this picture so that colors may not distract me and reduce its size. Then I will lower the capacity of this layer and will work on the layer above. My first step is to find simple geometrical shapes within this complex group of forms. Here I found two trapeziums, bigger one at the top and a smaller one at the bottom connected with the rectangular shape. I'm using my ST drying pencil for this course. If you want to grab my Bret, you can have it for my previous classes, otherwise any drying will work best for this whole course. Now in the null, in place of drawing this complicated line, I will simplify it with some simple upward curves and then complete that tropism. This pattern is quite complex. Simplify it with curved, pointy shapes, resembling leaves. Then there is a semicircular shape and a rectangle then finalized by drawing a small trapsm at the base. Now move this layer aside so that I can show all the steps on a single page. Again, I will duplicate this layer. For the second step, which is adding large and small shapes. I found the top and bottom of this pass were about the same height. I will select the lower part with the selection tool and transform it with the distort tool. The same way I will do with the top part and increase the height of the upper part and decrease the size of the lower part. Now it looks much better for the third step. Again, I will duplicate this string. Now I will simplify it more and exaggerate the different shapes the way I like. For the third step, I will decrease the opacity of this layer and row in the layer above. I think the upper part is good enough, but the bottom can be more simplified. I will draw a small circle and a triangular shape instead of a trapezium. Well, this is one of my ways to stylize this. There could be many ways for that. I will again duplicate the layer, select the upper part, and then widen the upper, broader part. Well, you can exaggerate the shape as much as you want till it breaks, but always maintain the subject's eligibility and keep them in balance. For example, if I reduce the size of the lower portion a bit more somehow, it does not look balanced drawing, I would suggest keep on trying different ways to stylize till you are satisfied. Now I will put all these layers in a group and flatten it. The following picture is this sense stakeholder which I found an excellent example to show you the stylization process. At first, I will desaturate the picture and decrease its size load. The capacity of this layer and draw in the layer above, my first step is to find the simple geometrical shapes within complex shapes. Here I found a triangle and two rectangles of different sizes. For this hook. I will draw a simple ring and then erase these lines to show some overlapping. I will draw these spots for the holes, as this is a straightforward depiction of holes in place of those diamond shaped holes. Also, they're more stylized and blended. Now move the drawing site for the second step. Here I will change the size of different shapes to add the concept of big, medium, and small. Now, duplicate this layer. I found the top and bottom portions are about the same height. To change them, I will select the lower part with the selection tool and then transform it with the distort tool to decrease its size. The same way, I will change the upper part. For the third step, I will duplicate this layer and exaggerate the shapes by maintaining the basic shapes for that. Select the lower part with the selection tool. This time I will also widen the base of this rectangle with the transform tool, we can do this another way round. In place of widening, I will narrow down the bottom. Now it is an entirely different shape for this incense holder. These are not the only ways to stylize. Let's go for one more approach. Here I will decrease the top portion sight and increase the lower part size. Here are a few more examples of simplification. Now in this lesson, we have learned the simplification process in three easy steps. First is simplifying the shapes by finding common geometrical shapes inside the complex was. The second is add concepts of big, medium, and small to change the proportions of different shapes. And the third is adding all the possible combinations. By exaggerating or simplifying the form, we try to make the form more readable, balanced, and streamlined, resulting in a visually captivating and stylized track. Now in the next lesson, I will share tips on Rhine animals. However they are the ring tips which can be applied anywhere in your out. 4. Animal Drawing Tips: This lesson is about what we must know before drawing anything. These tapes apply to almost every dry, not just Namal rings. Here I will share information to make sure drawings more attractive and appearing. Here I will add the concept of shape language. Size, shape variation, line work, captivating textures. And first I will talk about the shape language. To simplify things, I will start with prevalent geometrical shapes like circles, ovals, squares, rectangles, and something with pointy corners, like rectangles. Whenever you want to draw an animal, I suggest choosing a shape according to its personality. For example, if you're going to draw a pick, start with a round shape and add facial features. Single shape can be the head of any animal or the whole body of that animal. When we draw things with rounded corners or rounded shapes, they give the a sense of kindness, cuteness, and honesty, which also matches a pig's personality. I suggest you always choose a shape according to the animal you will draw. If you want to draw an elephant, select a chunky big, more stable and robust form, just like a square or rectangle. As all these adjectives suit an elephant's personality, these shapes are more reliable. While in some cases they are even dangerous. A single form can be the Dop Han elephant, or it could be a whole elephant. I will convert a rectangle into a complete elephant, but drawing its profile view boxy shapes are more suitable for animals like elephants, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, and other giant creatures like them. The third example concerns animals like a fox, which are usually dangerous, evil, or cunning and selfish creatures. Then I suggest choosing something with pointy corners as they depict the danger like triangles. I will draw one more triangle within this big triangle and then convert it into a fox with pointy ears. Now if I draw the upside down triangle, which looks even more dangerous, the way tip of the triangle will be the nose of the fox. Now add pointy ears. There are many things to consider before dry. For example, if you want to draw an inter gent animal, try to draw more oversized shape for its site. If you want to draw an athletic animal, choose a shape which looks more attractive, dynamic, strong. Well, here are the tips we learned about the shape language. Always use shapes according to the animals. Use round shapes as they are the epitome of cuteness, kindness and honesty. Use study boxy, chunky, rectangular or spare shapes, which shows the perfect blend of reliability, stability, and strength. Use spiky quantity. And triangular shapes, which represents the Glens aura with a touch of danger. And next is the size of ratio. Next is about the proportions of the shapes. What if we change the ratio of different body parts? For example, small head, a significant or large torso, and then a medium lower body. First I will show this circular one for a pig sat, then the same size circle for its body. Now I will change the proportions of different body parts, drawing a small circular for head and a giant circle for the body. Then adding facial features. Now it looks a little better than the drying before. In size variation, different sizes of the same shape, and in trust to your dry, It is suitable for the vegans who starts with simple shapes as they want to explore more poses and expressions. Next is about the shape variation. Now what if I change the different shapes for different body parts, like a circular hat and a semicircular shape for its body. Adding facial features, other shapes for ears and then arrows for the arms and legs. Now it looks better than drying before, although there are unlimited options for the shape of the head and the body. Here I'm drawing a pentagon shape for the head, a triangular shape with rounded corners for the body, and a different form for the legs and arms. Considering the size variation, as I move further, I will keep adding all the variations within the existing ones. One more option for the variation among the different shapes and sizes, this rectangular shape with rounded corners for the body, tiny legs, and a medium shape for it. I would suggest that you keep on experimenting with different shapes and sizes and find what you like most. Here I'm adding ears which I felt are of the same size as that of the head. Re, draw them with small and different shape, then a different shape for arms. Now here what we have learned, always start simple and easy. Something complex will come naturally with breakfast. Different sizes and different shapes are the best way to create eye catching cors. Experimenting with different combinations of shape to make them pop and stand up. To add more interest, try repeating some shapes or a part of the shape to add texture to the clothes or bodies. Now in the next lesson, I will talk about more Nor. 5. Animal Drawing Tips 2: Next is the line work. For the linework, my main focus is on no parallel lines or a letter. In place of parallel lines, anything different is always good. Here is a combination of curve line and a straight line. For example, four legs. Here are two parallel lines. Now it is the combination of a linear and diagonal line, which is better. Now in place of slanted line, a combination of the curve and state line is also good. Or a combination of curve or S shaped line, always a combination of different lines and shapes will look good. Here are a few more examples of the other leg shapes. All these options are better than the parallel lines for legs. Always incorporate this rule into drinks about the line work. Always use a combination of different kinds of lines, like a straight line with a diagonal line or a curved line with the S shape line. Variation among lines will add variety and intrust to your line work. Now next is the captivating textures. It is about the grouping of arguments whenever you add any texture or pattern. If it is symmetrical and even it will look done, even if you add them at a random place, they will still look flat. But if you draw them in groups like a combination of three or four and are scattered unevenly and unsymmetrical, they will look more balanced and pleasing to the eye. Even if you want to add plate texture and you increase or decrease the distance between the lines, it will add interest and also add a handmade touch to your work. You can apply these principles to other elements. Also, for example, if you are drawing a flower and all the petals are of the same shape and size, it will look dull. But if you change the size of these petals, although their form is the same, instantly it will look attractive. Now about the captivating textures. Even symmetrical textures may not always be the star of your creations. Create uneven, balanced textures. For example, add small growth to your design, wearing the size scattered in a group for a captivity effect. Next is the overlapping. I will also add the concept of overlapping lines. Draw overlapping lines wherever you can as it will add dimension and dynamism to your work. Here I will draw a bunch of flowers in a place of a single one with overlapping petals. Now, definitely it is more interesting than that boring, single flower. Same principle applies to this time of lies. Here I'm drawing lines in different directions and are of different lines. And adding overlapping les wherever I can. The shape and size of the les are almost the same. And only the variation within the direction and with the overlapping lees will turn into a beautiful stem. Remember, draw overlap lines and shapes to add depth to your work. All these trips can be applied everywhere, even if you are drying vegetation, florals, landscape, or even strayer. In the lesson, I will explain about drying different animal head shapes and how to create variation within that. 6. Animal Head Drawings: My first course was about drying stylized and expressive animal heads. There will be a little recap of the first class and then a simple extension of that lesson to add variation among the different animal heads. I have provided ad different animal heads, and these are the printouts of the P. Here are different variations of animal heads. In that class, I discussed in detail how to place facial features on animal heads like the front view, profile view, and the quarter view. Adding that variation within different shapes and sizes gives me an idea of different head shapes. Let's practice a few. I will start with the giraffe set here I'm drawing a semicircular shape for the forehead and ice. Then an oval shape for the muzzle and nostrils. Draw two nostrils and two small eyes on the semicircle. Then a tiny, rectangular shape for the lower lip. Draw simple curve lines for horns and leaf like ears. Drawing a neck and a new giraffe's head is here. Let's draw one more. This time I will draw something. Triangular, forehead adding eyes, a different shape for the muzzle and nostrils, adding a lower lip. And the other shapes for horns and ears. Well, this is my way of creating different kinds of heads for the same animals. In my first class, I explained everything about placing the facial features on different animal heads in much detail. I have used this template here. It is. A little recap of that, about placing the facial features in the front here. This is the place for the eyes, then the muzzle, then this is the place for ears in the front view. Now for the profile view, this is the place for the eyes, then this half oval is the place for muscle. Now I will extend this line from here. It is the nose bridge line which varies according to the animal. You are drawing the tip of this nose bridge line is the place for the nose and here is the muscle, then this is the place for the ears. Now if the head is tilted or turned, so drawing facial features over a turned head, draw ovals around these vertical and horizontal lines. Size of the ovals can be changed. They can be much bigger or smaller. In the same way, it will change the place for the eyes, for example, where the two ovals intersect each other. This is the place for eyes, considering the head is tilted that way. Now muscle will be below the eyes according to the tilt of the head. The lower portion or lower lip may or may not be visible. If the place for the eyes is this, it means the head is tilted That way, the place for the eyes will keep on changing with the direction of the tilt of the head. If this is the location of the eyes, the ears will be somewhere here and the other ear will not be visible. Then for these eyes, one ear is here and another will be on the other side of the head. That was all about the recap of the first class. Now here is the simple extension of that lesson. Here I'm drawing a nose bridge line which is a perpendicular to the forehead line. Here is the place for the nostrils. Then here will be the lower lip, and this is the place for ears. Think of this head as dog head to understand it better. Now for the next option, what if I change the length of this nose bridge line? If it is extended, the nose will be here, the lower lip. Now this looks like a different animal or a different species of dog. Here we have changed the length of nose bridge. If we change the angle of nose bridge line to the forehead line, again the shape of head will change. Now let's create some different shapes and sizes of muscles here. Here I have changed the angle and length of nose bridge line. I will draw a very small nose bridge line. Well a diagonal line for the upper lips. There is always a slant. Never draw this feature in a state line in profile view as all animals have lower lip, a little behind the upper lip. Now for the next option, I will change the size and shape of the nose. It can be oval, triangular, or even a square shape. There are million ways to create different head shapes, only by changing the nose bridge line. Here, I'm drawing a few versions of that. Now here is the template for the quarter view. This is the place for the eyes. This shape will be the guideline for drawing the muzzle and upper lip. Now consider this arc at the top of this oval and draw two state lines from the two corners of this arc. Then draw a rectangle at the tip of the lines, find the central point of this rectangle. Then the corners of the triangle are the nostrils. That is the upper lip and is not a state line. It is some angular or curvy line like this, or it can be a diagonal line also. Now extend the upper lip below that. There is one more rectangle which is the lower lip. It is always slightly inside of the rectangle above. Now let's draw once more. First draw the eyes and then two lines from the. Now draw a rectangle where the lines end to find the centerpoint rectangle for the lower lip and angular curvy line for the upper lip. Now I will lower the capacity of this trying with the lower opacity eraser and then redraw over that ship. Drawing the upper lip and lower lip, then draw other side of the upper lip. The nostril which is away from the viewer will be smaller in size and sometimes it is not visible. Even this is the basis of trying with the quarter view of the animal head complete, the head shape, eyes and nostril away from the viewer will always be smaller in size. As it will add depth and perspective to. Let's draw one more variation. Here is the place for the eyes and then the guidelines for muzzle and upper lip, Again two state lines from the arc. And this time I will draw a big rectangle which is for the animals like cows, buffaloes, and other such mammals having big and white nostrils. Next heat is for animals like crocode alligators. This time the rectangle will be much broader. Now the places of the nostrils will change the shape of the upper lip. It will be a curve line. Next is the head for animals like horses, donkeys and zebras. Here, the rectangle will be comparatively taller than before. A small rectangle for the lower lip and ample nostrils, Rest of the method and lines will remain the same and a curvy line for the upper lip. The next option is for the animals with long nose bridge lines and small mouths, for which I will draw a very small rectangle. Rest of the lines and method remain the same. Well, here is a suggestion on how to practice animal heights. I suggest getting a print out of a template sheet or creating one yourself. Then start with one animal at one time. Create all the combinations you can think of. Let your imagination go white, and then create a few you like the most to work further. Next lesson is about drawing different stylized facial features and body parts, which can be used while designing animal characters in your style. 7. Stylised Features: Now let's draw some stylized facial features, like a triangle for the nose. Change the shape of this triangle according to the animal you are drawing. It can be oval or a scare. Then draw two ovals for nostrils or a semicircular shape for nostrils. Two small dots or coma like shapes for the nostrils. Let your creative imagination work over here and create library of different kinds of stylized facial features. Here I'm drawing different types of eyes over circular eyes with tiny eyelashes. Big eyes with small pupils. These are my favorite ones. Circles with Jews, or then closed eyes. Try different shapes for different eyes, upside down triangles. Trapeziums draw beautiful eyes with eye lashes and highlights inside the pupils. Let's draw some stylized ears, inverted Vs. Goes leaf like ears upside down triangles. Or these folded ears, they are folded backwards if this line is extended and they are folded to the front if the other line is extended ears with these kinds of two shapes, a smaller one inside the bigger one, there can be folded ears or they can be of any shape. Most of animals are furry creatures. Draw here the way you like with zigzag lines or wavy lines. There are unlimited options now for the mouth, draw a slight curve or a big smile. You can also add teeth within the mouth. Stylize this teeth with U or V shapes. This curve line is for the upper lips for animals like crocodile, alligators, or even dinosaurs. Next for the legs, draw sticky legs with dogs as feet or small circle. Draw two lines at different angles. I have explained this other legs in the previous lesson. Well, there can be a bifurcation of toes. Try to draw shapes from thick to thin or from thin to wide shapes for legs. You can also add shoes, this is the shape for the shoes. Or just draw simple triangles for shows. Draw claws like this or spiky fate, or bifurcated feet. These lines are from thick to thin. They are prevalent yet in trusting. I want to explain a few tips for four legs and hind legs. Four legs combine curvy and straight lines. In contrast, hind legs combined curve and S shaped lines. Now come to the tail. Here are a few variations for the tail ends. Lastly, arms, arms could have blunt ends or a shape like this, or white separate mittal like ends. Now here are the tips on the stylized features. I suggest creating a library of stylized features. Suppose you have a collection of nose drugs and it can be an element or a pattern for your next project, as shown in this example. Having a personal idea sketchbook is an excellent way to stay productive when you feel stuck. The necklace is about the color glow exercise, where you will paint and doodle and have a lot of fun. 8. Colour Blobs 1: In this exercise, dive into the world of colorful creativity, paint, noodle, and transform color stains into whimsical creatures with your favorite colors. Let your imagination run by it. For this exercise, you need paper and colors. Well, I'm using watercolors with this bad bush. You can use crayons, markers, pencil colors, or whatever you like or have nearby. For this class, I'm using this expensive watercolor paper. Otherwise, I do practice only on waste paper. It is an old booklet I don't need anymore, but it has one blank site I usually use for such exercises. This is an inexpensive photocopy paper. Sometimes I use this, also use waste paper for practice. I'm using this fled with red and yellow watercolors. I recommend using a combination of two or three colors as it will be more fun that way. Now I'm making these blobs of colors without thinking much and just having fun with different colors and shapes. Sometimes I make intentional shapes, but I suggest not to make deliberate geometrical shapes as it will only bind your creativity within those shapes. Go random and make inorganic and unexpected shapes. Later on, we will convert these color blobs into some animals. I'm providing both my shades of color blobs in the resources section, but I encourage you to make your color blocks. After this, I will scan them and bring them to procreate. To work further, now is some color blocks. If you are working in your sketchbook or in waste paper, create as many shapes as possible using your favorite medium, like watercolors, crayons, markers, colored pencils, sketch pens or anything you like, use your favorite color. Always, a combination of two or three is good, and most important thing is to have one now. In the next lesson, I will convert these colored rooms into creatures. 9. Colour Blob 2: Well, both the skins are appropriate now and I will work in a new layer over the Start. Simple without thinking much. Place the stylized fissure features which I have showed in the previous lessons. Or create urn essential to turn these shapes into some particular animal. Imagine aliens, rock creatures you would like. And keep making a tree can be a strange creature, a flower can be an alien, or a ting be. Keep adding features over these color blows. I'll be using my estas. This first shape appears to me as a turtle. Let's convert it into a turtle. Suppose there is a nose. Add flaps here. Add two more flaps. There is always a patron. Let's add. Don't spend too much time on a single shape, as there could be many possibilities to convert this shape into other sea animals. Now for the second shape, rotate the document and see which way it can be converted into some creature. Let's turn this site into a mouth. It appears to me like a fur. Let's draw a furry animal having legs and shoes, and add a tail to it to represent as it is an animal. Next shape seems like a snail, adding a mouth and protruding eyes. And the shell could be like this. The next shape seems like leaves or an alien. Let's convert it into an alien With these bulging eyes and a big smile. I will convert this shape into some alien. Again adding spring like foot, mouth, and ice. Now this one shape can be converted into a snail. Again, spring eyes looking towards the viewer. A broad smile for the shell. Draw these curvy lines for this perspective, draw a lot of feet. Next step, I will convert it into something very similar to a pig having a snout. Maybe it is having spikes like some dinosaurs. For the next shape, it appears like eyes are under the tuft of hair. Suppose it has a single horn like unicorn. Next shape is like a turtle, dry mouth, and flats. Next is like a four legged animal. Let's draw like one somehow. This shape appears to me as a bear. Adding a mouth, eyes, nose, and for feet, drawing a tail. I recommend spending only a few seconds over one shape and practice, as this will help you become more creative in your imagination. There could be one more way to draw creatures over these shapes. Let's do one more practice. This time I will convert this shape into a, a animal with fins. I will change the position of the mouth to here, adding numerous feet. It was a snail Earlier this time I will convert this shape into some animal having a long snout. This shape was an alien. Earlier I will transform it into some creature having many horns or spines. Draw the mouth, it appears like a confused alien creature. Again, I am adding a wavy upper and conical with adding numerous legs with small boots. Next character has a long chin and a weak cluster of hair. An animal with paws and a fluffy tail. This time I will convert this into a character with a single horn and a huge cluster of this time transform this shape into some alien having numerous snouts. Think of it as some octopus, but having snouts in place of tentacles. It appears as a donkey with a nice tuft of hair over its body, adding a hale tail. I think of this shape as some character standing with wings on its back. Here I'm thinking of this creature as a shape. Now what you have done, draw over the shapes with graph pencils, colored pens or markers. Start with essential elements, frost like mouth, eyes, or lets then add details like textures over the body or adding accessories. The most important thing is spending a very little time on a single color set the time to ten to 12 seconds and then complete. The next lesson is about the cold exercise. May, you will learn about adding bodies to stylized animal heads. 10. Collage Exercise 1: This exercise is about the collaged. Here I will create the complete bodies of ends. I will start with the simple concept of big, medium, and large. First I cut shapes from the paper, then create animals out of it. Well, it is just an exercise, but you as an artist are the one that creates your craters depending on your preferences, style, and the type of trade you want to use. Here I'm using multipurpose craft paper, not thick or thin, and is inexpensive. First, I will cut three different types of paper of different sizes. Keeping in mind the concept of medium, small, and large. Now I will cut some geometrical shapes. First I will cut a circle, a rectangular, and a triangular shape. You can also cut other geometrical shapes or organic shapes, but always start simple. First, start with the giraffe. I will use this circular shape for the body of giraffe. Then oval for the mouth. A small triangular shape for the forehead, where I will put horns and eyes cut new shape for the neck. Use small rectangles for the legs. I need some different shapes for ears like this, rounded or a leaf shape. Then for the horns over the forehead with different shape, I will make a lot of changes later on when I will modify these silhouettes. Now I will create one more ruff. For this, I will use a triangular body, then a small rectangle forehead, and a semicircular shape for muscle. Well, it is not necessary to use different shape for forehead. This is the combination of two shapes. Then add thick or thin stripe of paper for the neck. This time use study but small shapes for the leeks. Here I'm using waste paper cuttings for the tail and other details. You can add details as you like, add texture over the whole body with different shapes. Here I'm adding small triangular shape for the ears. I usually make four to five silhouettes or combination of shapes of same animal. Then use my ipad to take pictures so that I can draw over them in the procreate and modify them further. Well now let's dissolve this and start with a new animal. Here I will make elephants. Starting with three different shapes. I'll be using big rectangle and a medium sized oval and different shapes. Four heads like small oval, four rectangular body. Small rectangle with big oval and triangle with other oval shapes. You use organic shape for the trunk. I'm using completely different shape for the trunks, although trunks can be thick, thin, big, small. Trying out different versions for that. Well, these are the silhouettes for the front view. Only if I shift these two shapes of head and trunk, it becomes a profile view. These are nice silhouettes to practice, drawing different characters of same animals. Now, here is one front view and the two profile views, Sometimes I cut deliberate shapes like this one. With the change of direction, pose will be changed. Now I will add legs to the elephants. I'm trying to add small legs to big bodies. By adding a little movement, different pose is created. That's why I like this exercise a lot, as it also gives so much freedom and outcomes which I were not thinking of earlier. Now add details like ears, tail, and textures over the body. While doing these exercises, always remember all the basic principles learned in previous lessons. I will keep on modifying these shapes until I'm satisfied with the outcome. It is just an exercise, but you as an artist are the one that creates your characters depending on your preferences, style, and type of shapes. The tips for this lesson, use any color or texted paper. Always start with simple shapes and see what you can create. Start with the big shapes first, then add the medium forms, which will be a intentional approach. And then add minority dates. Try to create at least six to seven combinations of each en. Even more will be better. Well, now we will draw animal characters from these silos and then improve them further. 11. Collage Exercise 2: Now for the next step I will do appropriate. I click the pictures of previous exercise and then bring them into the procreate. My first step is to recreate the same silhouette using the same shape for graff. A small oval forehead and a triangular shape forehead, leaf shaped horns. Then adding ears and a long neck, rounded, big body legs are very small as compared to the body. Adding the concept of big, small, and medium, drawing facial features over the head, draw any kind of facial feature you like to develop it further, I will duplicate the layer I found by changing the angle of head will add little direction and movement to the whole character. Change the shape of legs starting from thin to thick. I like this Raf. Let's create a few more this time. Change the size of head. A bigger head comparatively well. I forgot to add nostrils earlier using same shape for forehead drawing. Curve lines for horns with dots at the ends. Leaf like ears and long and thin neck. Again, start from thin to thick shapes a big goal body, adding long legs. Now this is the second version of the same silhouette. Let's draw one more here, I will change the shape of this oval in place of more rounded. One elongate it adding two big guys, two lines for horns, leaf like ears. This time lower lips will be longer. Adding long neck, drawing oval shape for the body. Medium size legs with shoes. Let's draw a front view of Terra. When drawing front view of any animal, always tilt the head down a bit and also widen or increase the size of muzzle, nostrils or snout as it will appear. As it travels towards the viewer, it will add depth to the overall animal. Drawing different shapes for horns and ears with white oval for body long necks. This time I will change the shape of legs from thick to thin. Draw one more example. Here I'm drawing a smaller triangle for forehead. Then the oval below long ears. A different shape for horns. Draw lower lip with tongue out. A little different shape for torso. Here I have decided to add different kind of calls. Here I'm drawing. Sam giraffe in quarter view. Starting from this template for the head, I will start with straight lines from the arc, adding nostrils and lower lip. Using the same shape for head triangle and an oval. Then a long neck oval shape for the body, drawing legs, different shape for horns and ears. This is the quarter view of graf from the first silhouette. Now let's practice a little more with the second graf. Rectangular head with semi oval shape for the forehead, rounded eyes, and then same shape for horns and ears as in the silhouette. Long neck and triangular body and then small legs. This string is quite similar to the silhouette which we have created before, changing the shape of rectangle and size of semicircular forehead, big nostrils, and lower lip. Here I'm trying the different shapes and sizes for lower lip, triangular ears. And then two lines, four horns adding triangular shape for the body. A little curve at the lower side of tummy, showing some weight. Adding small legs, adding little movement to the tail. Looks nice. Now let's draw few elephants for first one. Draw round body thin trunk, drawing eyes and ears, other ear may or may not be visible in this view. Drawing tail and legs for second elephant drying big rectangle with rounded corners for the big body drying eyes and a big trunk, semicircular shape for ears. Adding small legs from thin to thick for third elephant, draw an oval and triangle forehead, triangular ears, and long trunk. A different shape for legs adding eyes. Now the tips for this lesson add everything you have learned so far in this exercise. Draw over all the six or seven combinations and then modify them as you finally choose two to three design that you would like and then work further. This is the end of this course. Remember, improvising and applying comes with practice. Practice and then achieve it. 12. Final Thoughts: First, congratulations on completing this course. Thanks a lot for coming this far with me.
