1. Welcome to my class!: out to draw a gravity using the computer. That is what you're going to learn in this tutorial is if it be odd digital artist and a teacher. I'm gonna show you all the steps you need to know to create a beautiful artwork using digital meets. You'll first learn out of shape your letters and give them the style that you will try to add some perspective effects to it I share with you. My personal motives were in King and we moved too polarizing. We'll try to understand all highlights and shadows interact together suddenly bring the art for it to life used to the old processes. Not that long are it is a lot of little steps involved in it. This is why I believe this classes intimidate you should at least have a good knowledge of forties graffiti and your environment should be all set up way. Need a computer or tablet just like this one. And I keep word a mouse off course, the digital software. I'm going to use many bank for delights and photo shop for two colors. So before I begin, just make sure to fall in my still short page start 2. Preparation : Overview and references: before we go anywhere. I think it's important to make a little of review of the graffiti styles. There are basically tree types, bags, throw ups and masterpieces Those get the worries are not hermetic, each of them just as specific characteristics. Helping us to classify graffiti here is seat tags, international environment, doors, walls, buildings, Backstreets. Those tags are elements of the urban landscape as we know it. Dogs are most of the time, just a word or a sentence. There are different degrees of the status city. Sometimes it's quite ugly. Sometimes it's quite beautiful and unique. The writing style is unique to its owner and is executed, which only one color. The next level of grafitti is throw ups. There are composed off one feeling color and one contour color. Most of the time, you can recognize them by their bubble letters or rounded shapes. Throw ups are supposed to be done very quickly and are generally quite he's in to read the morning complex. If I the more they transform themselves into pieces, the number of callers and details increases and the final result gets more and more in prison. The top level off masterpieces you can meat or wild style graffiti. The shapes and letters are so complex and so stylized it's almost impossible to decipher. There are clearly not improvised artworks. You can make sure that the artist behind it spent much time designing and planning every detail fits. Some masterpieces can take weeks to finish. The stunning examples you see here prove it. There are many others of get agrees that I won't describe here. Now be certain off one thing. A grafitti doesn't need to belong to only one get degree. Let's see duck like a scale grafitti on the left are quicker to execute and ask a lesser logistic. The closer you get to do right, the more preparation to require and the greater are the chances of getting cots. So this is a good indication of your braveness. There's one thing you can do right now To make sure to start your project successfully, click on the link below to explore the selection of graffitti I made just for you. Make sure to follow my account to receive the updates and Jews. Three artworks that inspire you. This preparation step is called the Reference Research. When you begin in a new style. It's super important to see examples off where you want to go. Although we don't want to copy other artists, Gathering references is a healthy and natural process, especially if you're just starting because they serves your ass guidelines to go into good direction. So please take five minutes for right now to make your reference research and come back here, I'm waiting for you. 3. Step 1 : Design & Lettering: really. This is Medic Bang. I'm creating a new project with those sittings 12 by 18 inches. Entry on Dredd DP I I'm creating a new layer on top of the background layer identity like the pencil brush which has a pressure sensitivity. This is the perfect brush to do your draft. The word actions for this tutorial is start So the first thing is really just right to work with thoughts. This why ill e in the style I want to give to this word is bubble style. I think bubble style is easy. It is good to start. It's not too complicated, so you'll have fun designing your grafitti with it. Bubbles are really about rounded shapes. I follow the natural curves of the later and I love my imagination. Do the rest. As you see, my letters are overlapping each other. I want them to look squeezed together so they form a big uniformed block. In my opinion, the S D Y in the e. R. The main laters of this word. And I want to make them more important. So I'm going to reduce the size of duty and e l. They're kind of used to fill the void between domain letters of the design. You want to get rid of the useless strokes, so your word is not to make. Let me take any reserve and try to fix this. This is ready. A trial and error process. I tried to stuff which comes to my mind, and I see if I like it. I want a Y to be more permanent. So I added Big, bold mass at the bottom. I'm now adjusting the shape of the letter so it fits with the neighbors. So, by the way, she did not save your documents. Let's do it right away. You never know what we're. The rest of the process is really just to add some definition to the contours, trying to make sure that this diets coherent over all the artwork. It's a really bad idea to go further in the process. If you're not happy with what you have now, play with your design on. Do it start over again. If needed. That's part of the game. That's a good moment for you to experiment, if you like. Of inspiration, I sections that you make a quick references research. Click on the link to sit this election of graffitti I made for you make sure to follow. The base will be updated with new artworks, so that's infirmities. I know it doesn't look like anything right now. Whether it's fine, that's just the first. What is important is just to make sure to have a good balance in your grafitti. For now, as you see, everything fits into a squared area. All the letters occupy an equal space, except maybe for duty and E L, which are smaller. But that's part of the design you also not is a good flow into contra stroke. So I was in that All elements are there. That's a simple graffiti to start. Simple lives are simple. The word is easy to read, and that's fine. Don't for something to come together with. Right now, it's your turn. If not done yet, you should choose a word and choose a style in which you want. That's a project of this glass. Start right away. Please watch some references online to get some inspiration and just ride down there and comments. What is the word that shows 4. Step 2 : Digital Inking: empty Step two in game When it comes to thinking I really like to use medicine, the reason why is because there's the correction options. This option smooth ends your line, making it look like if it's Victor rised. It removes all his flaws, making it I'm hitting. Do you let your button on top off my drops? I didn't reduce it's opacity, so I'll be able to see what I draw on it. The perfect brush for the condor is the pen brush. It does 100% harness and in size is sent by your pressure sensitive. You want to draw strolls with smooth, fluid movements. It's much better to do a long, continuous stroke instead, off many little ones. It's a good practice to repeat. You line until it's perfect because it's them to come. Forget it, corrected afterwards. When you're thinking on computer control, Z is your best friend. There is no secret you just have to repeat over and over again. The same line on did its first. You can defer abuse of the controls is you're making this day corrected. He's like an engineering process. If you have a good design of lemon dish, in will be quick and inexpensive on the other end. If you tell the rate mistake in the early steps is gonna worsen, and finding a fix will feel like hell. I think it's a good habit, more time thinking, design, preparing currently, your drawing instead of jumping straight ahead into work that is Spartz off inefficient learning, not having done with the country. I'm going to erase the extra inches. I'm taking my time to zoom in into the race carefully. That one is an example of a mistake I let grow unintentional. I'm trying to fix it. I need a lot of trials to do so believe me, it would have been much easier to draw a good line from the first shops. Instead of having a hard time, I'm going to speed up the process 19 times. I hided the draft layer, so I have a clear view off my work lows. Me two spots remaining mystics. There's one last detail. I'd like you to make a drawing more interesting pain drops. This is mint. We see a lot on many graffiti, especially true ups. It's adding up to this style. That's it. We're pretty much done with the thinking, a good contra line as many characteristics. Their 1st 1 is that the line is heart. It's a solid line with 100% hardness, the second characteristic of your country. It should have no get. It should be closed everywhere. So when you go to make a selection, it's gonna be either inside liberal arts side of the counter. And finally your line should ask thickness variation. So it kind of race to monitor any, but not too much, so it stays coherence. 5. Step 3 : Dropshadow: Now what we want to do is to add some drop shadow under tenia grafitti, So looks like it's not totally flat. I'm gonna duplicate this layer and shoes to create the shadows You need to decide for life . Source right can be on top on site you decide changeless all the next steps into drugs for my graffiti decided that the light source is right. This is why the drop shadow is falling on the left four I hide the fourth layer and I go back to my I used magic 12 to select everything outside of And I used a shortcut shift control I to invert dissolution. I'm gonna use this selection once in parts on the later four. I didn't feel the guest. I accelerated the process a little bit. So you see the final A drop shadow is an easy and straightforward adductor dimension with style graffiti. I was before other styles involving more angular letters, I believe is it It was our last step on anybody. We're ready to move to photo shop for two Cool arise 6. Step 4 : Solid Color: exciting bar some colors on our stuff. Here we are, Photoshopped. As you see the interface is a little bit different. It pretty much works the same way. Now we have too many layers. So I'm going to clean this up a little bit. What we're beginning where sometimes afraid to lose a work and we keep too much backups. Thing is that our environment becomes missy very quickly. Investment, hoping when I worked, I always try in and I tried to delete the leaders I don't use merge When my layers are clean, I can other colors always start with a base color. I saw the I'm really into green life losers and stuff it's do is to use again my magic and I'm sitting outside. If it we needed a good counter, I'm going to use a little process here to expend a selection. So I'm using silly modify expense and let's expended by something like Exel's. This is going to shift the boundary of the selection. True border of the city of color will be hidden behind shift control. Invert dissolution, off course do color layer must be on there. No, I'm using the pain and I'm gonna feel this area. You know your color. That's amazing, isn't it? Control all this pixels. Next color layer 7. Step 5 : Lights & Shadows: before adding the lights in the shadows. We need to study where you should go. I'm gonna replicate digital son. So this is my digital son lets in the light comes invest oration. I'm trying to know where on my graffiti So all the signs that are directly exposed to the light I painted you here. They're here. So this is where my life should go. I'm going to take another color, like and I'm gonna study where should go? The shadows Not too surprisingly, on the opposite side. I reduced the capacity of this layer will just serve as a guide into next steps. I make my new layer a clipping mask to debase color Everything I'm gonna drop on a clipping mask will respect the boundaries of the parent layer. I'm gonna build a shot. That was first. I want to suggest the shadows by drawing, which looks like business using the laces selection over all of the purple area. This is a bit long. So I left. When you want to add in your area your selection All the shift key if you want, is the I'm applying musk on my pattern layer. This mask will after shape off this election. I'm not selling my layer with purple color. I'm not going to use any razor dips. Tries this area and build patterns. So I'm not inventing shapes. Clank skin? Yes, up to you. Okay, while I'm finishing up this part me share some 30 days for this style, our callers. The secret is to keep it simple to attempt a project that is quick and easy. And that's your certainty is going to keep you motivated while you're learning. And that's my main mistake. Is an artist I'm always aiming to. I So I get to fail, Have to do it, and I frustrate what I say, and that's what I do. You feel motivated when you have enough challenge, but enough skills to achieve what you before. It's about finding a good balance and as you can take bigger steps, skin texture in the shuttle parts. No, we're gonna draw white reflection at every places where the light hits. Those are fictions are really just white lines. I tried to do damage at one stroke using Control Z. If the shape is not good, I'm renaming it to keep my workspace this point. The arteries still really flat. We're gonna use a soft brush to add a line values on larger areas washing this. I'd like you to take off your own project with the implements Ocean effect on your grafitti . I also encourage you to drop a screenshot of your project down below. Even though it is just a work in progress, we're all interested to see where you are now. I finished a soft light areas. Even though I use the brush with zero hardness, I still feel the boundaries are too hard. A implemented Goshen blur her and then you play with the amount of pixels. It's gonna finner your color bloods proportional. The guy Schindler can be used in all circumstances. You will see many if its applications before DNFs tutorial. So similarly to do stuff lights, I want to add soft shadows as well. Do you remember the mass? But earlier today, over are these air skin layer will right click on it and click as must to selection. This is going to retreat this election so we'll be able to use it again to paint our new area. I chose a deep blue for the stuffed shadows. I just want a color that he's contrasting right? Once it's painted, I'm applying another Goshen blur, so it's more diffuse. You see? Go! Schindler's everywhere gushing Lawrence from Elite, one of the first faith you should try to master. I reorder my layers so the picture is on top off the soft shot. I play with blending mode and said it two months of life. I already changed my mind about the colors. I think the boost that suiting well. So they with you until I find you shortcuts for you is country the U. S. Probably the adjustment I'm doing the most with during my creation process. We don't always know in advance which color are going well to get. I wish when you like the most and you really after distant visually to see if you like it or not. Also just the capacity of every layer to make them more or less following up with your words, make sure to update your project down there. I look at it, give you some feedback, and you can incorporated before you go to the next. This 8. Step 6 : Effects: Now the fun begins. We're going to start to apply some effects. Okay, We have for our lights off lights Archetto Such shadows. Try to add some hail over around our reflection, create a new layer and place it honored a reflection. First, using magic Want to feel like the area around Reflections used shift control I to invert this election and then expend it using menu select. But if I fill your selection in white and this what we're going to use now, I got almost instantaneously. The reflection seems brighter. This is the jail I represent Another effect their color does layer created you later and make sure to send the blending mode to color. Dutch. I used to paint bucket too. Cream this later in life, as you see, doesn't do anything that's actually all when you're going to drink lighter values that the colors of the layer under will be eliminated. Choosing your brush, which looks like some magic fairy tale. I didn't wrong clothes from all the reelection. I like those areas. It's societies. This event is really adding magic to your artwork. Instant. I think it's a different fun brush, but if you can go online and search for a similar one key words. Pretty sure you'll find something. I named this later caller Dutch. In order to keep my work, I want you. But I something. It's Mrs I likes. I'm creating and you later, and I'm using the same brush to paint magic dust in the wind. I don't locate this layer, and I'm urging with its to increase its intensity. Since I always tried to buy the art, I'm going to add a similar Dexter into shuttle area. I'm keeping a sing brush, but I choose a darker color brushstrokes into dark areas. I will play with the use of finishing. I think it's enough. So this is our main graffiti. We filled it with a solid color with highlights and shadows, then some flights. Some shadows later, fix our next. That is going to be background 9. Step 7 : Background: by Brown. Well, you need to be inspired for this as well, because it's part of the artwork. I really don't have any idea. So that's going to be an interesting process. It's rightist for this one. I go with simple minstrels, Rose. I'm gonna use, um, brush. I found online remaining graffiti. There's a lot of difficult backgrounds that, you see all the time for resembled a bubble would fit with our style. I think I tried to implement something different for once. Right now, I don't wins. I'm just building the background as it comes to mind. I did the first layer, but I'm not sure you have the color pressing control. You just did. You I try different colors. This think reminds me too much candy. So I will go towards your British. Since I already add something. It was stones. I find it a little bit too much to reform. So I dropped another layer with the same process. But the different colors. I think the booze maybe too bright or it's eating too many callers to the artwork. So I'm gonna play with you. It was okay. No, you said that you really bright colors really sunny colors. I want to add one more effective background is the pain drop. So at this part of the artwork, I think it's pretty clear that looks like a digital artwork. I'm using brushes that are made for computer, and that definitely won't for it on the real wall. Drop a fresh paint on the wall would not fall like this because there's great. As long as we accept that our artwork doesn't represent the physical world, that's finally I'm going to create a light ale around gravity. For that, I'm using the same process we use for reflections earlier. I mean selecting the graffiti, expending the selection, fitting it with Saudi color and then applying caution, I said the seduction expansion and the blur are to securing techniques I use all the time. Really, I won't at any other design elements. All what's remaining is ready to play with colors until I'm. The colors are still beautiful. I cannot make my mind. So this process is just trying different mix, finding the one I like the most. That's it for Dubai. All you have to do now is to group all your layers on their one folder and hide a white background. You can save your image as a PNG. You should want to preserve the transparency or as a Jeep. Otherwise, that's it simple. So before you go, I would really appreciate that you drop your art will stand down there. Be really if you're looking. 10. Bonus: So this last video is a little bus for like, you know, I would lose into real life. I went online to search for urban blank wall, and I found, which would be just perfect to be the new home of my So I hope all my layers and I because I want to keep it original Kurt. Reduce the size of the new copy. I tried different blending modes. You're the layers in order to merged aggressive, since it's a digital artwork, refugees too bright in comparison with the wall. So I have to hide some layers with our digital effects, like the magic does. I have to dim the brightness and the exposure, and I have to reduce the saturation, making a little bit more drop grace blended to stimulate that this graffiti was outside for long. After many trails and duration, I'm satisfied with it. That's your graffiti in its natural environment. 11. Concluding thoughts: of it. That's your graffiti. I hope you're happy when it I have some conclusive remarks to say before we need each other . So this is clearly a digital artwork. The creation of this artwork was directly influenced by computer brushes, defects that we use. It's different from a paper graffiti. It's even more different from Earth Street graffiti. What we did here is it You choose your letter. Is your juice your style, your shapes, your A ranch elements together you choose different colors You played waited until you were happy with a pellet. So that's all the design process, and this is something you can definitely do at home. So I digital tools is great because allowing you to try different variation and choose the one wish something the best for you. Once you're done and you want to go outside in the real word, that's another. Please also, give me your feedback about this class. I'm going to read all comments carefully. So thank you guys for washing it all. I hope you liked it. And I really hope you learned something 12. Recap Example - Candy Graffiti: All right. So we are at this stage off inking digitally our grafitti that we just sketch on paper. So prior to dis stepped, I just took a picture or s can my grafitti And now I'm importing my image inside of many bang. As you know, many bang is much better for the lines. If you work on the computer, I feel like they're correcting. It is better so you can have kind of lines up, get victory ized very easily, and that's a does getting a good rendering result to your gravity. So as you saw, I chose size. That was a pretty decent something. Live a lot of firm pixels per inch is because I wanted to be in a maximal resolution are and this is really going to depend off. What is your end purpose? If you want to print it, make sure to have a very good resolution. So even if nowhere, if you're printing it on some very big surface, you will still have all the details. Eso right now? Well, I have selected a pen which is very solid edge, and I'm just starting slowly to trace every line a zoo. See, I'm not following exactly the pattern on there because I'm just trying to make the line more smooth. Eso if I'm not satisfied with the line, I'm just control Z and doing it again until I find a perfect flow that I'm looking for. Um, you know that the pressure is very important for this as well. The pressure is going to give your line a different thickness, depending off how much pressure you apply. Eso you can make sure to play with the sittings before you really start to ink. And I would suggest that you do it like every woman that is prior Teoh, Um, when you stand in front of your computer, otherwise it can get really frustrating if you don't have the right settings and you're kind of ready to start, Uh, sorry staff time lapse. The rest off tracing part because it's really just going over every line, erasing when you go out a little bit. Eso this process in toll is not super long. If you're already having like good lines, it's not going to be long. Maybe like 15 20 minutes and Indian. What you have to make sure is just to save it in the right format. So here selecting PSD format because I want to make sure to use Photoshopped to apply to collars you're now seeing me transition to photo shop as a city interfaces very similar. So my first thing is to import Did PSD file it just created Ah, the first minutes for me are really just about, um, cleaning my workspace, creating the layers I need naming them in a way that I can find all elements again. Um, and you know, it depends if I'm in the year how many layers you work with if you're someone who works with less layer, So that's okay just to let them this way. But for some projects, which are a bit more complex, you need a lot, a lot off layers. And it's important to be very organized if you don't want you be lost in your own work. So naming colors and things extra good way to do so on the stage right now to put the solid colors. Um, what I do with this is using D selection tool wishes like deer, uh, automatic. So it's selecting everything inside off the shape, and I'm kind of excluding a little parts. Um, and since I won't my colors to be on dirty black line, I'm using the selection, Modify, expand or contract just to make sure that it's actually just under two black lines. So we don't see the transition from though calorie to the color and off course. This layer is behind at the black, right? So I used a base color here, which was in the Cy in green acquire collars. I made my research prior to this, and I really wanted to go with those colors. Fourth, this grafitti I will use three stay as three layers of callers. So in the bottom, Miss Blue, the background is kind of green and aunt up, more like paint our or purple. Those colors are very complimentary. You know, the pink and more like cold callers. Eso I made my color palette research before starting this work. And for me to where they were really like the colors that go well together. The kind of brush you can use for that is a brush that is very soft. A So I used a round brush with a calm. Torre is not solid butthole. And this lows you to have a nice Grady in of color and you don't need to blend by yourself . If you just used a brush is gonna kind of blend automatically. Very, very simply. Are you see me now. Put some shading already. Eso When the base color is done, you can just I light or dark into places where you see there There would be some drop shadows in this days. Well, I want to create a very bubbly grafitti so our everything is rounded. It means that part of this really like a bubble light is reflecting toward us, and everything that is facing downward will be a bit darker. So that's how you see what I'm doing here. I'm putting dark elements under and white elements over and instantaneously. Are we after feeling that this is getting 1/3 dimension, I'm highlighting even more right now to places where I would expect big light reflection to be and to do so, I'm really just drawing blobs off colors very salted enough, super cute. And afterward I use blend tool just to made the counter a bit more soft. Um, and eventually like it's more intuitive Here. You try it. If it fits well, you let it. This weather wise, you move it. And when I'm satisfied, I'm also using the blur tool in order to just to soften a little more. Does a white areas so already like we have good, a good treaty effect here we feel it's getting like bubbles and four disc gravity. I also wanted this kind of ken de feeling. So the colors are very bright, are very light. I don't know e table colors. You want to eat it, you feel it. And I'm starting already to add some effects that make it look like a lipstick or like a lollipop, something that is very a shiny, bright full. You want to taste it basically. So now we're getting to the point where I will start to think about the background, starting to our think of other elements that will encourage the drawing and that actually will support our D grafitti itself. You see, like for a digital gravity, it's the rendering is very different that it would be on the wall, so that's normal and it's okay to assume your intention are moving on to the background. 40 swon. I'm really just using some kind of highlight around a grafitti. You sit, sometimes with some spray paint, like the contours are traced with something very blurry. So to do that, I've just selected my grafitti and I have expended the Contour. So it's a bit bigger. Dunder do grafitti itself, and then I've blurred it. And for the that part, I'm just playing with a brush that is called Cloud that just a cloud. And I'm putting different colors and it's very intuitive. So you're just trying things until you're happy with it. Are so I started with more greenish things. Now it's more like paying stuff. Are you see me play a lot with that? Until I'm satisfied Now we have the part where effects come in place. So I wanted those little cracks to look like If I am, I don't know that it was about to break or it was a little old s. I'm using a brush that looks like old branches here and there. Then, using also brush that looks like energy, light or something. So it's making it more magical still, in the intention to to make this very like candy Wonderland candy, something like that and in the last stages, like those prepping drops are always very important is just a little touch up that you put it in. But it really changed the feeling, and it makes it feel mawr artsy instead of just static, especially with the digital artwork, you can sometimes look a little fate seeming. Teoh Patch it up with some effects that that are making it like more injury, able to watch for that destructive eyes to from too much regularity. Eso those things are kind of breaking the monotony and making the artwork mawr interesting . So I'm a Deanna right now off the process. I've chose to keep it on the black background with, really, just like in some kind of cloud off. Nice, diffuse color. Um, in the background. It's very simple, but for the demonstration here, I would just wanted you to show again to see again old process that we're just drawing, putting on computer than the inking colors. I lights, effects and background. So you see that it's all the time, the same effects, and eventually, if you have another dropping where you like to input this fire is gonna be very easy, because are you have to like background. So it's gonna be here easy to input it somewhere else, just transform it in a PNG and use it in another space. So you're too now. Are you see that this was another time, The old process. Make sure to just wash again the steps to act that kind of work flow. But also don't be worried if you're not following exactly the same steps. Because you know, art is about improvising as well trying stuff. It's not a linear process, and that's OK. Sometimes you mess it up and you start over again somewhere else. So that's it for today. See you guys.
