1. Intro: I want to unlock your creative flow and make lots of art. I'll let you in on a little secret. You actually have to start drawing before you feel inspired, and then once your hands are moving, the inspiration will come. That's why I created this 30 day drawing challenge. Each day, I'll be drawing something very simple and you can follow along so you don't have to think about what to draw. Once you have completed the daily drawing and gotten your hands moving, I bet more ideas will come to you and you'll want to keep going. Hi, my name is Jenna Blackburn, and I'm a surface designer and illustrator. If you had told me ten years ago that my art would be featured on fun products with some of my dream companies, I wouldn't have believed you because back then, creating art did not come easily to me, and I was crushed under the weight of self doubt and uncertainty. So I completely changed my mindset. Instead of trying to create a masterpiece every once in a while, I would try to create something simple. Good or bad every day, and it changed everything. Keeping my hands moving every day and keeping things light and fun allowed my creativity to flow. It took the pressure off, and I started creating more art than ever before. In this class, I will be drawing something simple every day in about 5 minutes or less, and you're invited to join me so you can experience that same feeling. This class is for complete beginners and for those who are already making lots of art, but want some prompts to get their juices flowing. No drawing skills are necessary for this playful and fun class. I'm going to be using crayons because what's more playful than that? You can use markers, pencils, iPad, watercolors, et. I'm excited to do this 30 day challenge with you because I'm very passionate about sharing what I've learned about finding inspiration, keeping things playful and making lots of art. Let's get started. 2. Class Project: In this class, we're going to draw something simple every day for 30 days. We'll have fun drawing things like cats, trees, houses, slots, and flowers. By drawing something simple, we will take the pressure off and get our creative juices flowing. For this class, you will need something to draw with pencils, markers, paints, and iPad, et cetera. I will be using Crans and four inch by four inch pieces of regular paper. To download the guide and list of prompts that complements this class, go to Jenna blackburn.com slash draw simple daily. No drawing skills or previous experience is required for this class. The drawings will be super simple and you should be able to complete them in 5 minutes or less. As you complete your drawings, upload them to the projects tab. I'd love to see what you create and share your drawings on Instagram, using the hashtag, draw simple daily so we can all cheer each other on. In the next lesson, we'll get started with day one of the challenge. 3. Day 1: Tulips: Okay. Let's start by drawing some tlips. Tulips are super easy. I'm just going to pick a color that makes sense for the top of a tulip. I mean, you can pick any color actually. You can do whatever you want. This could be whatever color tulip you want them to be. I'm going to start with red. I've got my red orange cran and I'm just going to start in the middle. I think I'm going to draw three tlips I'm going to start with red and then I'm going to draw the base of the tulip when I'm drawing leaves, I like to use two shades of green. I've got my regular green and then I've got my yellow green, and I'm going to draw the outside of the leaves with the darker green and tulip leaves are really like that. Then I'm going to draw the inside line with the slighter green. I just think that looks cool. Then I'm going to draw a pink tulip over here. And you can change it up. You can start with the lighter green this time. I'll just make that go behind there since we're running out of space. Totally doesn't matter. This can be as rough or as neat as we want. We're just having fun and keeping it light, keeping our hands moving so the inspiration can come to us. Keeping our hands moving opens the door to inspiration. So Even if you just have to draw marks on a page if you're not feeling inspired, get your hands moving, and then you'll be surprised how quickly new ideas start coming to you, at least that's how it works for me. It's super counterintuitive because you think you need an idea before you sit down to draw. There we go. Here we have some tlips. Now, the beauty of this is now that you've drawn some Tlips with me, you can draw more tlips but you can make more changes to them, put your own spin on them. Maybe look up some photographs of tulips to get some ideas of how you might draw the tops a little bit differently or add more details or however you want, now's the time to have some fun and keep experimenting now that we've got some tulips on the paper for you to bounce off of. Okay. I will see you tomorrow for our next drawing. 4. Day 2: Fish: Now we're going to draw some fish. I'm going to draw a couple of different fish, and the fun thing about fish is you can use whatever colors you want. I'm just going to start with my red orange cran and I'm going to draw the body of a fish and it's just like in the shape of an eye like an almond, and then you can draw the tail and then a couple of fins. And then an eye and a mouth. There you go. Then if you want to add a little bit more embellishments, you can add some lines like this. And there we go. We have one fish. And then over here, I'm going to draw a fish with a little bit different body shape. So he's going to be more round on one side and then come out like that. He's got a little fish lips. And then I like to draw the tail. And then I want his fins to be round coming off of his body like that. And then I'll give him a little one right here and then an eye and a mouth. Then again, if you want to add some lines just to give it a little bit of embellishment. There, that looks pretty good. Now, for our final fish, this one is going to have the elegant body, he's going to be like this. Then I'm going to draw his tail. Then here's where we get really fancy. Oh, I think I'm going to run out of room. Oh, well, it still looks pretty good. Oh, and his wing or his fin is now attached to his mouth, but that's okay. We're not going for perfection here, so I'm not going to stress out about it. Okay. Okay. Then eyes and mouth, I forgot to give him this over here. And then now we've got some space to add some more little fish maybe. So I'd like to draw sometimes really simple fish like that. So we can put a few more fish in these little spaces that we have here. Okay. Then I'll give him some eyes and mouth. And then I don't know, I might put some little waves in here since we have the room. And maybe some bubbles. The fish are blowing bubbles. There. That looks pretty good. Okay, so now we have some fish. So go ahead and keep drawing. If you feel like it, you can draw some more fish and different colors and different body styles and just have fun with it. 5. Day 3: House Plant: Now it's time to draw some house plants. I'm going to draw two different house plants. First, I'm just going to draw this very generic house plant. I'm going to put it in this pot that looks like this and you can embellish the pot however you want. You can put lines or shapes or whatever you want. You can make the pot any shape that you want. Then I'm just going to draw some lines coming off of here, and then the leaves can come off in any direction like this. I'm just making this up. I'm not looking at anything in particular at the moment. It looks a little bit like my burgundy rubber tree plant, one of my favorite plants that I have. That looks pretty good. Then I like to take another shade of green and draw some of the lines inside the leaves. Great. There's one house plant. Now I'm going to draw another one and this one, I'm going to put it in a more rounded pot like that, and I'm going to give it a face. I like to put faces on almost everything. It just immediately gets a whole lot. I want to give it a little pink cheeks. I'm going in this pot, I'm going to put a snake plant. So snake plants are one of the easiest plants to grow and also one of the easiest plants to draw because it just looks like this. I'll put some lines in here with the lighter green. And we're done. Simple as that. Now you have your drawing for the day. Oh. 6. Day 4: Butterfly: Okay, now let's draw some butterflies. So butterflies, for me, I like to just start by drawing the body. And sometimes I'll give it a little head with little antennas. Oh, I just felt my cran break. Oh, no. I was just pressing a little bit too hard with it. Okay. Okay. Then you can give you can use whatever color you want for the wings. Sometimes I'll do one color on the top and one color on the bottom. Usually the top wings are bigger than the bottom wings. Then you can embellish the insides of the wings anyway you want, if you want to. You don't have to. You could just leave them blank like that or you could put some lines and circles. Inside. Just make sure everything you do is symmetrical and it'll look great. There's one butterfly. Then if you want to be able to put a face inside of the butterfly, just draw a little bit bigger trying to be more gentle this time, so I don't break my curan even further. Okay. So there. Now we got a little face. I draw the antenna. And then maybe I'll draw these wings a little bit differently, maybe a little bit like that a little bit of a curve. And then the bottoms. Okay. And I'm just making up the insides here. You could look at photos if you want for a little bit more inspiration for what to put inside the wings. But I'm just making it up as I go. That looks pretty good. Then if you wanted to draw a butterfly that's facing one way, all you do is draw half of it. For instance, I'll draw this butterfly, I'll just make its antenna it's facing to the right. Then you just draw half of it like this. Now he's looking this way and you could put a flower right here, it's looking at a flower. Great. Then we've got a little bit of extra room, so I might just draw some little tiny ones. If you want to get really simple, you can just draw a line and then you can use whatever color you want and the top and bottom in that color. That's the simplest version of a butterfly that I like to. That was a little wonky, but that's okay. Okay. There you go. Now you have your butterfly drawing for the day. I hope you will share it in the community on Skillshare and if you post it on Instagram, use our hash tag and so can find it and here you want. 7. Day 5: Suns: Okay, now let's draw some sons. So sons are one of my favorite things to draw when I was a kid. I used to draw them over and over and over. And now I kind of do that as an adult, too. I realized about a year ago that I just felt compelled to just draw sons and rainbows and smiley faces. And so that's what I do. I just draw that Every day, if I feel like it, I'll draw suns multiple days in a row. I put a sun in almost every scene that I draw that's outside, or even if it's inside, I'll find a way to add a sun. There's just something so so happy and cheerful about it and something really calming about drawing the same thing over and over. You might think that's a waste of time to draw the same thing over and over, but keeps my hands moving, which really keeps the inspiration flowing. If I can't think of anything to draw that day, I'll just draw a sun and a rainbow and some clouds and some trees. You can also draw a sun by using triangles like this. Sons are fun because you can experiment with different ways to represent them. You can use lines that touch the circle, lines that don't touch the circle, triangles, and you could vary the length of the lines. So we could have a long one and then a short one and then a long one and then a short one. Figure out how you like to draw sons and just have fun with it. If you want like I used to do when I was a kid, I love putting sunglasses on suns. I don't know why I was particularly drawn to that, but that's what I did. I wish I could find my sketchbook from when I was a kid because it would be filled with guys look like this with sunglasses on. So there you have it. There's today's drawing. 8. Day 6: Snail: Okay. Now I'm going to draw some snails, which are super super easy. So you can pick any color you want. And you just start by drawing a spiral like this. And then you just stop the spiral a little bit before you get to the bottom, pick a different color, and then you the body coming out like this. And then antenna. And then a little face. There you go. Now I've got room for another one down here. Now I'll just start the spiral going the other way. You don't have to do it exactly like this. You can do it however you want. Just stop before I get to the bottom. I'm going to add a little bit more on the inside like that. And then pick a different color. And draw the body. Super super simple. One of the things that I've loved doing over the last year is drawing some of the same things over and over and over. So ducks, for instance, was one thing that I drew for several days in a row. Now when I sit down to draw a scene, if I want to throw a duck in there, I know, I have this visual library in my mind that I can pull from and I can just draw a duck from memory, which never used to be the case. I am not someone who can draw things from my brain very easily. I almost always have to be looking at a picture unless I've drawn it many times, and then it becomes this image that I can pull from in my mind library. Yeah, if you want to add snails to your mind library, just draw fill a whole page with them, and then you'll likely remember how to draw them again a week or a month from now if you want to add them into a scene that you're drawing. 9. Day 7: Boat: Okay, now let's draw a sailboat. So to start, I'm going to make the waves first because I'm going to draw the boat behind the waves. So I'm just going to start by making some waves here. And then I can put the boat behind those waves. So I used to draw pretty frequently in Procreate on the iPad. And it's really nice to be able to erase. But I realized that that freedom to erase was making me even more of a perfectionist than I already was. And it was slowing me down and it was making me overthink things. And so about a year ago, I decided to just start drawing with rans because you can't erase, which at first was very, very weird. I did not enjoy it. At first, I would, you know, if I made a mark, I didn't love, I would get a little frustrated, but Okay. Now, I love that I can't overthink things. I just have to dive in and if I make a mark, I don't love, I just keep going and it's really unlocked something in my drawing process that I really love. So here's our sailboat. You can fill in the sails with whatever patterns or colors you want. You could even give your boat a name. If I had left more room, I could put a name here. That would be fun. You could also fill out the sky a little bit with some clouds or some sunshine if you wanted, whatever speaks to you. There, I think that's pretty good. And there's our drawing for the day. 10. Day 8: House: Okay, now I'm going to draw a house. So there are lots of different ways to draw houses, obviously, but I'm going to show you one of my favorite ways. So I first start by just making this shape like this for the roof. And then I always like to put a little chimney. To draw bricks, I just like to make a couple of horizontal lines, and then I put a vertical line in every other slot and then it just looks like bricks. Then on the roof, you could put anything you want, you could put a cat laying up here, you could draw shingles. Actually, I might try that. I might do some scallops. Let's see what that looks like. That's cute. I don't think I've ever tried that before. Yeah, I like that. I usually just draw horizontal lines across, but I like to use a bunch of different colors for my house. The walls have a different color than the roof, and the doors, and the windows are a different color. I love rounded doors. I think those are so cool. I would love to have one of those someday. Then I'm going to put a little porch here, a couple of steps, going down. And then maybe some bushes in the front. And then the ground. And I think I'm going to put a bunny in this window because why not? I love to put bunnies and cats peeking from behind bushes and out of windows. There wasn't really enough room for that bunny. His face got a, but that's okay. And maybe I'll put an address on this house. Put it going down the side here. Three, two, zero. There we go. Maybe a mailbox. Growing up, we had these types of mailboxes that were at the end of the driveway. The standalone mailboxes with the little flag that you could put up. But where I live now, our mailboxes are directly on the house. We don't have fun mailboxes like that anymore. I'm going to add a son because of, I'm going to add a son. With a little face. And a few clouds. And if I had more room, I'd probably put a rainbow in here, too. But I'm out of space. K. Almost didn't really have room for those clouds, but I made it work. And then maybe I'll try to squeeze a tree in right here since we have a little bit of space. Yeah. I right up to the edge. Okay. There's the house. Oh, my gosh. So cute. I love this little drawing. I could frame this, put this somewhere in my house. I just adore it. Okay, have fun with your house. I can't wait to see what you make. 11. Day 9: Strawberry: It's time to draw some strawberries. I'm going to draw a single strawberry and then a strawberry plant next to it. First, I'm just going to show how I draw strawberry. I like to just draw the stem and the leaves like this. Then I can draw the strawberry behind it. Like that. Then you can add seeds in yellow, if you want or black, and boom. We have a strawberry. Now if I want to draw a strawberry plant, I would draw more like this, like things coming up and out. Strawberries have something to hang off of. And then just make the leaves like that. This one's just going to be a bud of a strawberries. It's just got a tiny little green part there. And then I'll draw some leaves while I have the green and Strawberry leaves are jagged like this. See if I have room for another one right here. I had to go behind that one, but that's okay. Then maybe some of these swirly guys. Then I can draw the strawberries coming off of here. Then I will draw the veins and the leaves, and then the seeds. That looks. Because we can do whatever we want, I'm going to drop pink Strawberry just so we have a variety here. You can even draw a blue strawberry if you wanted to. You can do whatever you want. And maybe black seeds for this one. There. There we have our strawberries. Maybe I'll actually draw a couple more because I've got this blank space down here. I want to fill it a bit. Maybe I'll put just some really small by strawberries down here. Oh, those are pretty cute. Those cute little strawberry guys. I don't even know if there's room for seeds. They're so small. Here. Okay. And there's the strawberries. Have fun making your strawberries. 12. Day 10: Bird: Let's draw some birds. I'm going to draw a couple of different birds. They're all going to be in profile because that's my thing. I have drawn a lot of birds in profile lately and different scenes that I've been drawing. I'll just add a bird flying in the sky. And so birds flying are in my visual library. So I can pull from that and draw that pretty easily, but if you asked me to draw a bird, looking straight at you, I would have to look at some photos and figure out how to do that. Um But this I have a pretty easy time doing. There is a flying bird, and if it was bigger, I could give him some more embellishments, I could give maybe some patterns in his wings, maybe some spots or some different things going on. But we're working really small here, so not a lot of room for embellishment. Then I'm going to draw a bird facing the other way. I'll just start with the wing going in the opposite direction like that. And then the body and the tail, and then the other wing going that way. I might add some, I don't know. I don't really have the room, but if I had more room, I would add more going on in the wings. And then an eye and a beak. What's fun about birds is you can really have fun using any colors you want. Feel free to Google colorful birds, and you'll get all kinds of inspiration for different colors and patterns and shapes of birds, and there's all kinds of really beautiful birds to pull from. Birds are one of my most favorite things to draw. This bird is just going to be sitting on a branch or something. His body ended up really flat. I would normally make it a lot fatter right here, but I don't know why that happened maybe because I'm talking and drawing at the same time. There's his wing, and then maybe I'll put some spots on his belly in a different color. And an eye. And beak. And then to draw the legs, I just like to put two lines going out from the bird like that, and then two lines going backwards like that, and that kind of looks like like bird legs. Okay. I'll draw one more bird since I have the space. That one's better. That one's got a nice fat belly. That's how I like to draw birds normally. And I'll give him an eye. Maybe this one's got an orange beak. These two kind of look like they're gonna kiss. Okay. And there we have it. There are our birds for today. 13. Day 11: Hot Air Balloon: Today, we're going to draw hot air balloons, which I just think are so joyful. I'm going to draw a big one in the center, and then if there's room, some little ones in the background. So I'm going to start first with the big one. And if there's room, I'm going to try to put a little character inside. But I don't know if there's going to be room with this small of a piece of paper, but we will find out. For a hot air balloon, I like to just draw the top of it like that, and then can put a little basket. And then I think there's room for a little bunny, maybe. I'll put a bunny in here. Peak it out from the hot air balloon. This is a very brave bunny. I don't think I would ever go up in a hot air balloon. I think I love seeing them from the ground, but I I don't think I would ever be brave enough to go up in one, even though I'm sure it's magical. It doesn't suit me my personality very well. And then the inside of the hot air balloon, you can do whatever you want. You can decorate it however you want. I like to just pick some different colors and draw stripes to help define the roundedness of it. When I was growing up, I'd be playing outside. And I would in the summertime, I would often see hot air balloons in the sky. And I thought that that was just what happened. But, I haven't seen them that much as an adult. And I thought, Well, it's probably because I'm not spending as much time outside, just playing and looking up at the sky. But then I talked to my husband and he was like, No, did I didn't see hot air balloons in the sky all the time as a kid, and I thought, Okay, maybe it was has something to do with where I grew up. And so because I don't live in the same place where I grew up anymore. And I live more in the city than I did growing up. And so I talked to my parents about it. And I think it was that there was a field nearby that they would launch the hot air balloons from. And so There was often multiple hot air balloons in the sky when I was outside playing in the summer, and it was just really really beautiful and magical and really fun to spot them. This drawing is making me feel nostalgic, making me feel like a kid again. It's going to draw a few more on this side. Um Yeah, I could be decorating these all differently, but I'm just kind of keeping it simple. Okay, that looks pretty good. I kind of want to put one more here, but I don't know if there's room. I'm feeling like there's a little bit of a gap right there. Can I do it? Can I squeeze one in? Maybe it's just a little tiny baby one. That's really far away. Almost doesn't even have room for any stripes or anything. Okay, that looks pretty good. If I had more room, it'd be fun to add some clouds and some rainbows and stuff. But I kind of like that. It's just as simple. H air balloons. 14. Day 12: Cat: Today, we're going to draw some cats. And if you know me at all, you know that I love to draw cats. So we're going to draw three different cats. We're going to draw one sleeping with his paws tucked in. You know how sometimes they tuck their paws in. You almost can't even see him. And then one playing with the yarn, and then one laying on his back sleeping. So let's start with the one with his paws curled in. So I like to just start with the ears. And then draw the body. And then you can add a tail. But sometimes when they're in this position, you can't see their tail because it's tucked. I always like to add stripes on a tail. I think cats have stripes on their tails, even when you can't really see them, even when they're solid colored cats, if you look really closely, they almost always have really subtle stripes on their tails. So, oh, that was bound to happen. I cracked this cran in an earlier drawing, and that was bound to happen sometime soon. Okay, well, the show must go on. This cat has an unfortunate scar on his face from the terrible cran accident. Maybe we can make it into a whisker. There, kind of kind of looks like a whisker. Sometimes I press a little hard with my crayons and they break. Okay. Now I'm going to draw the cat laying on his back. So he's kind of lying sideways. Like, Oh, I don't know what I just did there. That line was supposed to be like that. Okay. So He's gonna have one arm going across his body and then one arm, kind of like that. And then he's got to have a foot. And then another foot and then a tail. And stripes on his tail. I always like to draw the ears and then give him some stripes on their foreheads. And then he's sleeping, so closed eyes again. And then let's do the last one. This one's going to be holding a yarn ball. So I'm going to draw the body and the ears. And then the tail can go up like this, maybe. And then a leg. And then another leg. And then an arm and an arm. Stripes. Feel free to make your cats, however you want. Maybe they don't have stripy tails. Maybe they have different markings altogether. Now we have to add the yarn ball. I hope I left myself enough space for that. Kind of O. That looks pretty good. That's not too bad. Okay. There we go. We have our three different cats in three different positions. I hope you have some fun with this one. Feel free to do a Google search of cats, and maybe you'll get inspired for some different positions. Maybe draw one walking. Maybe draw one stretching. There's all kinds of inspiration to be found online. Just make sure if you draw something Super close to the photograph that the photograph is royalty free. So you have to Google royalty free images and not just any image that comes up on Google. But usually when I'm looking at images, I'm just roughly looking at the position of a cat or whatever. And I'm not too worried about drawing it. Super close to the photo, obviously, my style isn't super realistic, so it's not a problem for me. Okay. Have fun with this one. 15. Day 13: Sunflower: It's time to draw sunflowers. I'm going to draw two sunflowers, and they're going to have little faces. And if it works out, they're going to be holding hands. But we'll see what happens. I don't have an underlying sketch to go by, so we're just wing it. We're just going to see what happens. I'm going to start with brown and draw the face, and then I'm going to draw the petals, which are super easy to draw. About even just five years ago, I wouldn't have been able to draw this sunflower this quickly because I would have been overthinking, every line I made, I would have been judging every line I made. Is this good, is this bad? But drawing every day has really helped me with that. So for the leaves, I like to draw them my hearts. Like this. So drawing every day and drawing something simple has really helped with the overthinking, especially with the crans because I can't erase. So I can't really think too hard about what I'm drawing. I just have to keep going. And in the past, I would have had a really hard time with that because making art was really hard for me. I was so hard on myself, and so sitting down to make art was not fun, the way that it should be because I wanted everything I drew to be amazing. And if it wasn't if it didn't even feel very good, you know, good, then I felt really bad about myself and I thought, What am I doing? Trying to make art? I don't know what I'm doing. There are people on the Internet who make amazing art. Everything they do seems to be really easy for them, and it's not easy for me, so maybe that's a sign that I shouldn't be making art. Um so I had to figure out how to get over that. Okay. Here's the moment of truth. I think it's going to work out. Kind of looks like they're holding hands, right? They're at least touching hands together. So, yeah, drawing every day and drawing something simple and not trying to make a masterpiece, when I do sit down to draw has really helped take the pressure off and helped me to not judge every line that I make. And then I can just draw freely without feeling really overwhelmed by indecision and fear and judgment of every mark I make on the page. So I think drawing every day, even if it's just something super simple has been a huge game changer for me. I can't recommend it enough. So I'm so glad you are part of this challenge. Congratulations to you for doing this. I hope you enjoyed today's drawing, and I'll see you tomorrow for monsters. Tomorrow, we're going to be drawing monsters. 16. Day 14: Monster: Okay, who's ready to draw some monsters? Monsters are super fun because you can make them however you want. You can use whatever shapes you want, you can give them whatever features you want. You can really just be creative here. I'm going to draw three different monsters. I'm going to start by drawing one really long one with lots of legs. If you're doing this drawing challenge, and you're anything like me. If you're feeling Any feelings of judgment about what you've made so far, if you're like, man, I just really don't think that what I've drawn is that exciting. I don't know if I'm going to be able to do anything with these drawings. I just want to tell you, like, you've already won because you're showing up and you're doing the drawings. And just by virtue of being here and doing the drawings every day, you're getting your hands moving. The inspiration is going to flow because of that. Your creativity is is taking notice that you are giving it some love, and so it's going to pay you back for that. And I just want to say, I know how it is to feel overwhelmed when you're trying to be creative because when you're creative, sometimes, I mean, almost all the time, fear is there and fear can cause all kinds of of havoc. So if you're having any kind of fear or overwhelm, I just want to say it's completely normal. I can relate, and I hope that drawing every day with me is taking some of that pressure off of when you do sit down to draw, it has to be amazing. Because when I let go of that, I started to make more art than ever before. And it was really hard though to let go of that. So Okay, this one is going to look kind of like a cloud. He's not a very scary monster, but that's okay. Maybe I'll give him some teeth. I'm going to give him some arms and legs for sure. Maybe he's got hands. So just keep going. Try not to judge what you've made. Celebrate that you showed up. And that by being here, you've opened the door to your creativity and you've opened it up and you've said, come on. I'm here and I'm ready. And so just keep drawing and try to channel your inner child who did not judge what they drew and just Drew whatever they felt like and then moved on and didn't have all of the feelings that we have as adults. So here are my monsters. I think they're pretty cute. I hope you have fun with this one. Once you've drawn the monsters that I've drawn, I encourage you to draw a few more from your own brain and use different shapes. You could You could make one that's a complete circle. You can make one that's a square. You could make one that's in the shape of a snowman with multiple circles. You could do whatever you want. It could have three, four, five eyeballs. The eyeballs could be coming up off the head like a snail or something like that. Yeah. The possibilities are endless. So I can't wait to see what you make. 17. Day 15: Cupcake: Today's prompt is cupcake. So I'm going to draw one big cupcake on my four inch by four inch piece of paper, and I'm going to put a face on him because everything is just automatically cuter when it has a face. So That's where I'm going to go with this. I'm going to start by making the cupcake liner and I can we can put stripes in it to indicate the folds of the cupcake liner. And then I'm going to give a little bit of space between the liner and the frosting where the actual cupcake will go, but I'm going to jump up to do the frosting right now. And then in the frosting, I'm going to put sprinkles and maybe a cherry. At ready making the cherry. And then the cupcake itself could be like there. Maybe it's a vanilla cupcake, so yellow. And then the face is going to go right here. And then how about some arms and legs? Now we need some sprinkles because you have to have sprinkles. When I draw sprinkles, I like to put lots of different colors obviously. It's nice if those colors are represented somewhere else in your drawing already. I've already used this yellow, I've used the red blue. I used a light blue, but it still counts. Then there's green in this cherry, so we can add some green that through the design. Okay, that looks pretty good. That looks like a pretty fun cupcake. You can look up other kinds of cupcakes online to get more inspiration for the types of toppings that could go on a cupcake in the shape of the frosting and things like that. So yeah, I can't wait to see what you make. 18. Day 16: Tree: Today, I'm going to draw some trees. So I'm going to show you a few different ways that I like to draw trees. So one way is, and of course, I like to keep things really simple. So they are I'm not going to draw every single leaf on the tree. It would take forever. I'm just going to draw some circles. And you can imagine all the leaves. So that's one tree. You can also make it with one big circle. So maybe it's something like this, and you've got a couple different branches, and then the tree itself is like one big shape like that. Then of course, you can also do a pine tree or Christmas tree with steps like that. And I feel like this needs a little something more. This is very plain, but maybe I'll add a something here, a little bit more tree to that. I could also add more things in here if you wanted to add like a sky or some clouds. Maybe I Maybe I'll put a sun in here. This looks just a bit bare. And maybe some clouds. Well, and now I feel like I need something right here. I could add on to the tree. Or I could add an animal. Oh, my gosh. So many possibilities. Let me think. I'm just gonna add onto the tree. Said I don't think I have quite enough room to add. I mean, I could maybe do like a little bunny. Maybe just do a little bunny. Well, there's a ton of room. But I think you can tell that it's a bunny, hopefully. Okay, that turned out pretty cute. I feel like I want to put something inside this stree now, 'cause this looks really blank. You could put some I could put little marks inside, M. The pine. There. That looks pretty good. I'm happy with that. Okay, have fun with this one. Trees are kind of. I mean, I used to feel intimidated by them because if you just look at a tree and you try to figure out how to draw it, it can be kind of intimidating. Like, how do I simplify this complicated thing? And so this is an example of how you could just make a very simple tree, and everyone, I think, would know what these are if they looked at them. So Yes. Good luck to you I'm making your trees. 19. Day 17: Spaceship: Today, I'm going to draw a spaceship with a little alien inside. So it's going to be a pretty simple spaceship. It's just going to be a little dome. Maybe a rectangle here. So circles. And feet for the spaceship. Maybe some kind of antenna. And then here comes the alien. So he's gonna have one eye, I think. And maybe some ears. Maybe some pink ears, horns. You need a steering wheel. But he's not his arms are like, Oh, he's like, He's like on a roller coaster, his arms are up. But we could give him a steering wheel, and he can use it. Well, this might look like his belly. It looks like a little belly. Oh, well, belly or steering wheel, can be whatever you want it to be. And then maybe I'll add some stars in the background to fill this space. My husband loves talking about outer space and telling me about black holes and all the things that he's always reading about. And I it scares me a little bit to think about those things. So I don't love talking to him about it, and it's kind of become a joke in our family. That he loves. He loves talking about that kind of a thing, and I do not. I think I need one more here. It's it's a little unbalanced on this side. You see it's like a lot more stars over here than over here. Maybe a blue one. Up here. Okay. That looks pretty good. I'm happy with that. Congratulations on completing today's drawing. I hope you had fun with this one. This was a simple, fun one. And please share what you made in the projects tab in this class. And also if you share on Instagram Tag so I can see what you made. 20. Day 18: Camera: Today's prompt is a camera. So I am going to base this camera off of my new Fuji X 100 VI, I believe, what's called. I love my Fuji cameras. This is my second Fuji in that series, and it just takes lovely videos and photos. So I'm going to use some funky colors. My camera is just black and silver, so I'm just improvising on that part of things. So I'm going to start by drawing the lens. I may or may not put a face in this camera. I probably will. Who are we kidding? Okay. And then the body of the camera I'm kind of wishing I could move some things around. The lens isn't centered on the camera, so I'm fine with that, but there's some other spaces that I don't. But you can't. You cannot erase when you're playing with crayons, which is a blessing and a curse because you know if I was drawing on this on the iPad and I had the ability to, the straw would take me probably 2 hours to do because I would be erasing and refining it the whole way. Drawing with something that doesn't erase is actually really helpful to doing a drawing a day because you can't erase. You can't fix it, so you just have to keep going. You just end up drawing a little bit faster, which means it's easier to get your daily drawing in. Okay, a little face. Oh, my gosh. What a happy little camera. And then some little reflection lines. Yeah. This guy is a little too tall. He's supposed to be he's supposed to be shorter and wider. But that's okay. I still think it's a pretty cute drawing. I'm happy with how it turned out. And I'm not going to overthink it. I did my drawing for the day. And so I have one. I have one the day, no matter how I feel about the end result, which still I still like him. He's py cute. I don't want to talk bad about this little camera that I made. Um, Okay. Congratulations on completing your drawing for the day, and I can't wait to see you tomorrow. 21. Day 19: Bunny: Oh, I'm so excited for today's drawing because we are drawing a bunny, and I love drawing bunnies. I put bunnies in many of the drawings that I make. If you've seen my coloring book, that's available on Amazon. You will have seen some of these bunnies that I speak of. We're not off to an awesome start. These ears didn't quite come out how I wanted them to, but I'm not going to overthink it. I'm going to keep moving. That is the key to a consistent drawing practice is just keep it moving. Overwork it, don't overthink it. Which is really hard if you're a perfectionist like I am. But I actually love the character that it brings to my drawings because when I draw digitally, I tend to draw much more stiff and perfect because you can on the iPad, and so I love how when I draw with crans. It has a little bit more character to it. Okay, I meant to draw his paws close enough together that we could put a carrot in between them. And I was talking, and so I forgot to pay attention to that. Maybe it's a bushel of carrots. Is that a thing, a bushel? Maybe he's holding like several carrots. Otherwise, it'd be a really wide carrot. So I was going to draw a few carrots here. I just pretend he's holding a bouquet of carrots. He's very hungry bunny. He's got to hold a lot of carrots in his arms right now because he he's time for dinner. It's hard to see what I'm doing there, but I'm just trying to put a little lines in the carrots to show a little bit of depth on those carrots. So, here we have our bunny. He actually I actually like that he's holding a bunch of carrots. So sometimes you get happy little accidents like this where instead of holding one carrot, he's holding a bunch of carrots, which just makes him look like this super cute, super hungry bunny, and I kind of like that. So I'm kind of happy it worked out that way. And that's what's nice when you can't erase. Sometimes you have to just go with what you have, and you come up with something even better. Congratulations on finishing your drawing for the day, and I will see you tomorrow. 22. Day 20: Coneflower: Today's prompt is a cone flower, which is one of my favorite flowers to draw because it's super easy. You just start with the cone part. Then if you want, you can put some little dots in it for a little bit of character. Then you just draw the leaves or the petals. I like to start with the two outside ones. I draw them like that. Then I just fill in the space that's left with as many petals as makes sense. This time it was three. Then I like to put lines in the petals. That's just my way of doing it, but you can find your own way of doing it. Then you draw the stem and the leaves. And there we have it. See how easy that was. I love con flowers. They're just so easy to draw, and they always look good. 23. Day 21: Car: Welcome to today's prompt, which is car. And I have to tell you, I'm a little bit nervous about this one because I haven't drawn many cars. I do have a reference that I'm drawing from, so Fingers crossed. Fingers crossed for us today. Okay. Here we go. I'm starting with the body of the car. Here's the back of the car. And then the front of the car. Oh, I should have started with the wheels. Okay. I'm going to do the wheels now. The wheels are kind of in front of everything else. Okay, those came out relatively the same size. I feel good about that. We're off to not such a bad start. Oh, as I say that, things start to go off the rails. Finish the body of the car now. Oops, Woops. Okay. Not so bad. I'm going to come in with a different color to add a bit of a little bit more color to things. Then we need a window. We should probably have a door so that you can get in the car. Okay, it looks it's looking a little bit like a car, right? It's looking a little bit like you could drive this thing, steering wheel, a rear view mirror. So head lights. Are we missing anything? A road? Maybe we need a road. I feel like this could be better, but it's not so bad. It's not the worst car that's ever been drawn. It's It looks like a car. What if we put a bunny or something in it, driving it to draw your attention away from the car itself. Yeah. I like that idea. I got a little bunny in here. He's driving the car. Should we put someone in the back seat? I might as well. Maybe it's a cat. He's like, Hey, what's up? I'm going for a ride in the car. I don't know any cats that would say that. Any cat I've ever had has, um, been absolutely terrified to be in the car, so I can't imagine any cat saying that, but there we go. Maybe the bunny needs an eyeball so he can see what he's doing. And maybe, you know, I don't want to add a sun in every single drawing, but, like, this one deserves some deserves this sun, I think. I want to put sunglasses on this sun. And maybe some clouds. I'm supposed to be keeping these really simple. Here I am, adding all these extra things. Okay, just a rainbow and then I'm done, I promise. I always have to start with pink or blue when I'm making my rainbows because I don't use purple in my work, usually. And if you're going to go in order, there's no way to get from blue to pink without purple. So usually start with pink. Okay. I like it. That's pretty good. I'm now I'm feeling better about this drawing. I feel like I was a little unsure about that car, and I think we salvaged it. I think think we can feel pretty good about this drawing now. Maybe there's even some Oh, my gosh. I'm really going off the rails with this one. Maybe there's, like, some flowers along the road. I mean, when are there flowers along the road. But we can do whatever we want. This has gotten much more complicated than I anticipated this drawing being. But I like where it's I like where it where it ended up, so I'm not mad about it. Okay, that's super cute. Okay, I kind of love this drawing now. I hope that you love what you make. And if you don't love what you make, it's okay, too. You drew something. That's all that matters. It doesn't matter if you like it or you don't like it. What matters is that you did it. You drew something. So give yourself a big pat on the back for showing up today. I'm very proud of you, and I will see you tomorrow. 24. Day 22: Cactus: Today, I'm going to draw a cactus, and this one's going to be very simple and very quick. So we're just going to draw the pot. Then you can put whatever you want in this pot, you can give it a face. You can make stripes, you could make circles, you could put a pattern of some sort inside of it, whatever you want to do, and then we're just going to draw the cactus like this. And then maybe some wines. And maybe a flower coming off here and there. Just to add a little bit more color. And that's it. I told you today's drawing was going to be super quick and super simple. There's lots of different cactus styles. So if you want to keep going, just Google succulents and cactuses and you'll get cacti, you'll get all kinds of inspiration for different cacti that you can draw. So keep going if you feel inspired to do so. 25. Day 23: Turtle: It's time to draw a turtle. I'm going to just start by making a half circle, make his little head coming out from there, and I'm going to give him some legs and a little tail. Then I like to just draw horizontal and vertical lines. But if you wanted to look up what an actual turtle looks like and make it a little bit more realistic you could, and then give them an eyeball and a mouth. And that's, that was really quick. That was a very simple drawing. We have a little bit of space up here, so I think I'm going to add something else. Maybe maybe he's got a present on his p. Maybe he's off to a friend's house, and he's bringing them a birthday gift. There. Oh, my gosh. How cute is that? That wasn't even planned. Just happened to work out that way and love that we met happens. 26. Day 24: Bicycle: Okay. It's time to draw a bicycle. Who's excited to draw a bicycle? I um I'm a little nervous about this one again, but I have a reference photo. So I think we're going to be okay. Bikes are one of those things that like we know what they look like. Like, I know what a bike looks like. But if I just try to draw one for memory without a photo because I don't have that much practice drawing bikes, it would be bad. It would be pretty. Pretty bad. Okay. We need a petal. Petals, two petals, and we need some spokes on our wheels. And then I'm going to make this bike red. And so I'm going to make a line coming up from this wheel, and a line coming up from this wheel. And then I'm going to connect them, and then a line going to the pedals and a line going to here. And then we need a seat. And a this part. And then we need some Handlebars. Maybe we add a little bit more color in here. Maybe there's some blue on these handlebars. Do these even look like handlebars? I don't know. You can tell it's a bike, though, can't you? And then we need to add the little tire thing, a little air place. And then maybe make this a little bit more defined. And that's pretty good. That looks like a bike, right? I think it looks like a bike. I'm pretty prod of how that came out. I'm impressed with myself. Can't we proceed your bikes? 27. Day 25: Ice Cream Cone: Today's drawing is an ice cream cone. So I'm going to start. I'm actually going to do from the top down, I think. So it's going to have three scoops. So I'm going to start with the first scoop. And then I'm going to do a second scoop. Oh, my gosh. Are we going to have room for a cone? Maybe we should stop there. Maybe it should just be two scoops. I think we're going to have to stop there. That way we have some room for the cone. Unless it's a cake cone, but I You guys, I don't like cake cones. I'm going to tell you right now. I don't know why anyone would choose a cake cone over a sugar cone. Sugar cones and waffle cones are so good. So, for me, that is absolutely the way to go. This ice cream cone has arms and a little face. And then some sprinkles on the top, I think. Okay Okay, I think I think that's it. I think that is my ice cream cone for the day. I feel pretty good about that. You could add a little bit more cherries or chocolate chips or whatever you want. But I'm feeling pretty good about it, so I'm gonna shop. 28. Day 26: Zinnia: Today's drawing prompt is the Zinnia flower, and Zenias are one of my favorite flowers. So this should be a pretty fun one to draw. So I like to start with some yellow circles. Then I'm going to use the brown to define this part a little bit more. And then we get to draw the petals. Which just come off from this part like this. And then you can add some lines if you want. And then we just have to draw the leaves. And so Zinas have multiple leaves per stem. So we're going to need to draw, I'm going to draw like three. If I can fit them in, I think I can. This one's a little tough. This one is quite hidden. Okay. That's not so bad. I'll add the center part. I always like to use a different shade of green for the middle, just to add a little bit more color. And there you go. That is a for today's drawing. 29. Day 27: Bleeding Hearts: Welcome to today's drawing. Today, I'm going to draw some bleeding heart flowers, which are so pretty, and I actually have one blooming in my yard right now comes up every spring. So there's going to be two layers of hearts, and then I'm going to draw some leaves coming off. And the leaves are kind of jagged, kind of like strawberry leaves. Oh, kind of running out of room here. Okay. And then I'm going to add some veins. And here, I didn't really leave myself very much room to do that, so I'm just kind of being messy about it. Okay. And then we need some lines coming down for the hearts. And then I'm going to use this pink, and I'm just going to make the hearts. Pleading hearts do have a little bit more detail than this. Obviously, there's a little bit that hangs down from the heart, but I'm just keeping it real simple and cute. So I'm just drawing hearts. Okay. That is so cute, and that was a fairly simple drawing, and I feel really good about this one. I hope you do too. I hope you had fun with today's drawing. And again, if you don't like what you drew, it doesn't matter. You showed up, and that is so good, you deserve a big pat on the back for showing up and doing a drawing and keeping your hands moving so that the inspiration can flow. 30. Day 28: Duck: Welcome to today's drawing. Today, we're going to draw some ducks. Ducks. That's something I really struggled with for a long time. And so I finally just drew ducks for a couple of days in a row, I drew just pages of ducks. And now I've got a few ducks in my visual library in my brain that I can pull from. So we're going to draw three different ducks. So first, I'm going to draw one standing up. So he looks like this. And he needs a beak and eyeballs. Whoa, one eyeballs. Was much bigger than the other. Okay. And then their feet, I just like to make two lines like that. There. There we have one. And now I'm going to draw one in a profile, and you can imagine that he is in the water. I don't usually have this much problem with the ras getting chunky like this. I think it might be the paper I'm using. I usually don't use this paper. I have my sketch books that I draw in, but I wanted to cut up squares of paper for this challenge and is a little bit of chunkiness with the ras, for some reason. Okay. Now I'm going to draw a duck looking straight at us. So he's just sitting and he's got his feet up. And then for his beak, I'm just going to draw an upside down triangle. And then two eyes, and we're done. There we go. We drew some ducks. If you had asked me to draw some ducks, a couple of years ago, even a couple of months ago, even, you know, it probably would not have gone so smoothly. But like I said, I've spent some time drawing ducks repeatedly over and over and over, and it's helped me kind of be able to draw them without thinking so hard. So have fun drawing your ducks. 31. Day 29: Sloth: Okay. Today's drawing is a sloth. Who doesn't love sloths. So he's hanging from a branch. So I'm going to draw two legs like that. And then the branch is going to go behind. So there's going to be a branch. Let me let me just show you. It's hard to say what I'm going to do. We got to show that his feet are wrapping around this branch. So This is a little complicated. You don't have to make it so complicated, but hopefully you can see where I'm going trying to make it look like he's wrapping his arms around this branch. These legs should have come up a little bit higher, but that's okay. We can draw his massive claws. And then we need to draw his face. And we need to draw it big enough that we can fit space for the details that go on a sloth. So his little mask and then eyes, and then a nose in a mouth. And then maybe some little details on his back. And then maybe I'll add a few branches just to be able to add another color in here. I'd like to bring some green in. Yeah. Okay. There we go. There's our slot. 32. Day 30: Tiger: Welcome today 30 of the 30 day challenge. Congratulations on getting to this point. Let's get started with our last drawing. Today is a tiger. I'm going to use my yellow orange color, and I'm going to start with the years. This is going to be a very nice tiger. He is not going to look like a very realistic tiger, which is my way. That is how I like to do things. Okay, the hardest part is done. Now, all we need to do is take black and fill in some details. So I'm going to color in his ears. I'm going to give him some stripes on his forehead. I'm going to give him a nose and a mouth and some whiskers, and some eyeballs would be good. And then we can add some marks on his legs. And on his back. Oh my gosh. How cute is this turning out? Then the tail there's a little bit more black on the tip than the rest of it. So there's more black there and then just stripes going down like this. Oh, my gosh. Look how cute he turned out. I love this little guy. What a great way to end our 30 day challenge. I am so proud of all of you for showing up to this challenge. I hope that drawing these simple animals and flowers and things has really got your inspiration.
