Transcripts
1. Introduction: Hello everyone. My name is senior and I'm an illustrator and graphic designer. Today we'll create a few illustrations with Kawhi sushi. We're going to make all the pictures from scratch, starting from the sketches. And as a result, you'll have five full colored illustrations you can use. The final picture is as single stickers or a sticker pack, put them on the postcard, make a pattern from them, turn them into some digital products and use them in whatever way you want. This class is for everyone. So don't worry, if you have no prior experience. All the drawings I made in Procreate, but it doesn't mean that you cannot use any other graphic software or even traditional materials. So with that said, if you are ready, launch you software and let's begin.
2. Making a Maki Sushi Sketch: Today we'll draw a few very simple sushi illustrations in a Kawhi style. We will give them a bit of personality by 18 different facial expressions and different emotions. And we will play little bit with that poses. So let's just go to our Canvas and start sketching. So firstly, we will need to grab some brush and we will need to pick some color. I will go with a texture brush, and I will pick the neutral color, not too bright and not too dark. So today we will create a mock illustrations if you roles and a few says she meets. So let just start with something simple and it's gonna be the Mackey's. First of all, we will need to create a little ellipse like that. You can go with manual, create an analogy, or you can just go and use that quick shape to, it's up to you. Don't make it too narrow, don't make it too wide. It's just very neutral ellipse when you have the shape on the top, Let's just create two lines going down. You can go with straight lines or you can make them a little bit narrower on the boards and ends. We will connect them together with a little curvy line on the bottom. So try to repeat the line like here. Adjust the shape if you need it. If you want to adjust it even more, you can go to the Selection tool. We can select the shape, you can go to the Transform tool and to use their free formatted distort and work if you want to play with the shape a little bit more. For example, I will go to distort and I will make it a little bit more even on both sides. I will go to work and I will adjust it in accordance with my vision. So I want this top part's be a little bit more narrower. And if you want to play with the work, so you are welcome to do it. If you don't, don't do it, we will go to that So panel and we will tap on the Selection tool to deselect everything. So when you are satisfied with your shape, Let's just add a little bit of feeling insights at these MCI. So we will need to do the following. We will need to repeat the shape here and make it a little bit going beyond the frame too. For example, we will have some tuna salmon going up from the top. So when you're satisfied with the sheep, led, just work a little bit more on the whole rice that we have here, because rice has some texture and we need to repeat it and tune into recreated. So we will go along the shape on the top and we will go with a little curvy line, but the line that we're going to be created not will be like that. So you can go with this slide. But to make it a little bit more interesting, we will diversity, we will create the different bombs like that. So let's just go along this line and create the lines like that. We will need to repeat it on the line that is in France. But this time we will go with that inverse line and we will make the curves like inside. So let just repeated in the same way. Now you can go to the Eraser tool and erase everything that you don't need or you can leave it as it is. Because now we are creating just a sketch and we don't really need to be very neat. I will erase it to see what's going on, on the canvas and maybe to see clearly what I need to fix later. So when I have this shape, we will need to create some bumps right here to show that it's not plain and to show that it's still the rise here as well. So I just create a few bumps or let's erase everything that we don't need. You can go through this shape and add a few lines like that to show that it is rise inside. When you are satisfied with this, Let's just work a little bit more on our facial expression and onto the post that we can add to this character. So the characters have the very distinctive face features and they are very simple to do. There is a few variations. We will go through most of them, but let just try something very simple right now. So for example, we will go with simple round eyes and with a simple mouth. So let's just find the center of our piece right here. And we will create the face features a little bit above this line. Firstly, we will go with the ice for the eyes, as we discussed before, we will go just with simple circles. Let's just go and create manually two circles on the sides, tried to make them on the even distance from the center. If you need to find the center, just make the line like this. And when you have the eyes, Let's create the mouth. So for the mouth into this illustration, we will go with wary simple shape and it's going to be just the shape like that. I am putting it on the same line that our eyes on. And I'm just creating it here because it is echo-y style and if we make everything very compact, it will be Bueller. So when you have these facial features, Let's just add some little cheeks under the ice. So just create two ellipses underneath the eyes. And if you need to fix something, just go to the Selection tool. So for example, I would like to change the position of these I, on the left, I will select it with the selection tool and with a free hands methods, I will go to the transform. So I will go to the uniform method and I will move it a little bit to the right. So here you can rotate it, you can move it, you can do whatever you want to fix your illustration and when you are ready, let's again go to the top panel ends. We will deselect everything by tapping on the Selection tool. So when it's done, Let's just add some arms and legs. Just add some legs. We will go with very simple shapes. We will create them with sticks or with the curves. So for example, for this illustration, let just start with the legs. And for the legs, I will go just with the line like that. So it is a little bit more wider on the top and a little bit narrower on the water. So let's create the second leg. So you can go with very simple pose. So it is just like standing here, very Steve. But if you want to play a little bit around, you can just go and create a different shape for the legs. So for example, it's standing like that. Maybe it is dense novo bit to make the legs, even if you overdo it, it just go to the selection. So go to the Transform tool, make it a little bit smaller, put it in a way that you need. Now when we have the legs, Let's just add some little arms with the hands. And again, you can go with something very simple. You can go just with two arms like that, or you can create some peculiar shapes with that. So for example, I will go with something like that for the hand. So you can go with very simple shapes like these with 36 or use the forest sticks or 56, It's up to you how many sticks you will use for the fingers and for the arms. And here I will just go and create something like that. So waving when we have the first shape, let just go to the Transform tool and we will move it a little bit aside. We can play here a little bit with the fish texture. So for example, it is salmon or tuna. And we will need to add some stripes here to create a nice pattern for the fish. You can just go and repeats the curve right here and create few lines like that when you are ready, let's just create another variation of the sushi. And this time let's just create the sashimi.
3. Making a Shrimp Sushi Sketch: So for this a shimmy we will need a little arise on the bottom and we will need some shrimp or an omelets on the top. And everything here is like wrapped with the seaweeds. So let's just go and start with an ellipse on the water. This time, make it a little bit more wider. If you want, you can go with a rectangle but make the corners a little bit more rounder when you have the shape for the rice. Let's move on to the top and we will create little shrimp here. So for the shrimp, firstly, we will need to recreate the shape that we have for our rise. So let's just create an auxiliary line like that, repeating the shape that is underneath. So when I have this shape, we will need to create the SRI. And to create the shrimp, we will need to create some kind of a drop shape like that, ends at little t like that. So let's just try to repeat it all into our illustration. Firstly, we will repeat the line that we have on the top, but we will need to make it a little bit smaller on the bottom, I will erase the lines that we don't need right here when we have the shape of the drop, Let's just adjust it a little bit and let's add a little SEO. So for the t, we are creating the shape of the drop ends. We are creating another shape of the drop and connecting them together. When you have these shrimp, Let's erase everything that we don't need. So go into the eraser tool and we are a reason the line that we created to help us. Now let's work a little bit more on our rice part. We will make it maybe a little bit bigger. I will go with the shape of the rectangle, but with the various soft lines on the corners, I will erase everything that we don't need insight. And again, we will go and we will need to repeat the lines that we have right here. So we will need to go alone the shape that we have on the bottom and create these curvy wavy lines. Just very quickly do so. Now I will go to the eraser tool and I will erase everything that we don't need. Now let's go to the Selection tool. We will select our shape, we will go to the Transform tool and we will adjust it a little bit. So I will go with a free form method. I will shrink it a little bit down. I will make it larger like that. If you want to distort and warp, It's just go for it, just play with it a bit with the sheep. When you're satisfied with your sheep, ledgers go to the top panel and let's just deselect everything by tapping on the Selection tool. So when you are satisfied with the shape, Let's work a little bit more on to our Shri. So we will need to show that it is not spleen and that it has some volume. So let's just go entropy the line that we have on the board and we will make it rights under the central line of the street. So when I have it, we will need to add some texture of this trip. So for example, you can go and create the Cartwright here, we will erase everything that we don't need insight. You can add the line like that and you will need to go alone the shape of that free. So we will need to repeat the shape of it. So we will go with the lines into this direction so they are not going to be played. So let's just start from the top parts. We will go and create a few stripes repeating the shape. And on the bottom, we will need to make them more vertical. When you're done with Ed and describes, you can go again to the selection tool and transform tool and adjust your shape a little bit more. So for example, I will go and I will select the shrimp and I will make it a little bit bigger. I will adjust its placement. I will maybe play with it a bit with work too. Ends when you are done with this part, we will deselect everything, maybe play a little bit more with the shape right here. I will continue playing a little bit more with the shape and I will adjust that sale when you're satisfied. Let's just add the facial features. Let's just add some legs and let's just add some arcs. So firstly, let's just go and add some facial features. So for example, to this character we will add the eyes like that. So they will be the half of the circles and they will be looking down. So let's just go and find to center lines. So one is horizontal, one is vertical. And we will put our eyes a little bit below this line that is horizontal. I will go and I will create one here, one here for the mouth. You can create any shape that you like. So for example, your options are little mouth like that. Oh, its own mouth like that. Elites own mouths like that. But way that. Elites own mouth like that. A little mouse like that, but with the tongue as well. So a lot of options. I will go and I will create some thing like that. And I will add a little tank here, plus I will also add a little cheeks under the ice. When you're satisfied with your face show features. Let just add some legs and lead, just add some arms. So for example, adjusts creates the lax like that. So it is just strictly standing. And for the arms I will create just a few sticks, few curves looking up. When we're satisfied with our second illustration, let just select it and let's make it a little bit smaller and put it a little bit as sites. Now when we are done with our second sketch, Let's move on and create a role illustration.
4. Making a Salmon Roll Sushi Sketch: So for the role we will need to go and create the shape of the circle or the shape of an ellipse. Again, you are welcome to do it manually or you are welcome to use the quick shape tool. So when they have this role, let's create one more ellipse or circle insights. And here we'll put some feeling. So for example, let's just add the line like that, that will represent some fish. We already know that we need to show that it is a fish. We will add the lines like that, and let's add a few more lines here, or just one line or a few lines to add some other feelings insights. So for example, it will be just something green, it will be some avocado, and maybe there we will add some other stuff. Now let just adds a little fish on the top. So we will some kind of repeat the line that we have on the top, but we will need to connect it with the body of the sushi, tried to make it even on both sides, try not to make it very roundy, erase everything that you don't need. So when you are done with adding the fish, Let's just adds this lines that we have for the rise. So we will go along the shape and we will go with the lines, with the curves. When you have these curves, let just grab an eraser tool and erase that we don't need. We won't add this curvy line here inside because here we will have like a dark line that will represents seaweeds. So when we have these, we can add some lines for the fish so you can go and along the shape and you can create a curse like that. You can add maybe some caviar on the top. So for the Caviar, we will need just a few bombs like that. We'll create a little pyramids with these bumps. Now let's move on to the face features. So for the face features, Let's just create the simple circles again for the eyes. Try to make them on the same distance. Try to make them even on both sides. And here we will grab the eraser tool and we will add some highlights here. So for the highlights we will erase three circles like that. And when you're ready, let us move on to the mouth. So for the mouth, I will go with the same shape that we created for the previous illustration, but maybe this time there will be no tag. Let's add the cheeks. So when you create it the cheeks, let's move on and let's add the legs and the arms. So for the legs, I will go with the curse like that and that will represent that it is a little bit running. So for the arms, I will create two shapes like that. And it will represent that he is very excited about his hat from the caviar. So when we are done with the shape, Let's go to that selection tool. We will select it, we will make it a little bit smaller. We will put it as sites to create one more illustration. So when we're done with this illustration, Let's move on and let's create one more role. But this time it will be rectangular.
5. Making a California Sushi Sketch: So for this row, let's just create the rectangle. We will go with the shape, with the soft corners and we will need to add a little rectangle on the bottom so we are creating some kind of a cube. So draw the lines going from the corners and we will make it look like it is a little beads in the perspective. Draw the line in the back and try to make the corners rounded as well. Erase everything that you don't need it when you are ready with these sheep, let's just add a little bit of feeling onset the soap sides. So again, we will go and we will repeat the shape that we have outside. Didn't go with a rectangle. You can go with a shape like that. It is analogous, but it is also a bit pointy on the site. So it's up to you probably I will go and I will create analogies here when you're satisfied with this part, Let's just go through all the lines that we have here for our rectangle and we will go with the curvy lines like that. So let just quickly do this. Let's grab an eraser tool and erase everything that we don't meet. If you want to put this little L apps that you created for the fill in a little bit up, you can go to the Selection tool, we can select it. You can go to the Transform tool and move it a little bit up when you're done, Let's just work on the facial expression and let just add that Lex and the RPS. So let's just find the center of our illustration. We will create the horizontal line. We will go with a vertical line. So it's not truly needs to be very accurate. We are just mapping out where we need to boot the eyes and the mouth. So for the eyes in this situation, let's just go with something funny. So I will go and I will create that ellipse firstly, and then I will add the line go in to the sides. So let's just start by agent two ellipses or circles like that. I will go and I will add this horizontal lines. And let's move on to the mouth. For example, let's create a little smirk. And for this MOOC, we will go with the mouth like that. And we will need to create one line that is horizontal on one side. So let's just try to repeat it here. One corner of the mouth will be a little bit higher ends onto this higher corner, we will create a line like that. Let's add some cheeks. And when we are ready, let's move on and let's add some legs and let's add some arms. So for example, let's just make it stay like that and we will add the curves on the sides to represent the arms. You can work a little bit more onside the feeling here. So you can separate the parts insights to represents different feelings. And so you can just add maybe additional lines like that to represent some salads or something like that. When you're satisfied with this shape, Let's just go to the Selection tool. Let's just move it a little bit and probably we will create one more illustration. So I will go and I will select this body and I will move it a little bit on top. So I will reposition our elements on the canvas more wisely to free some space. And here we will create Alito sashimi with an omelette.
6. Making an Omelet Sushi Sketch: So let's just go and try to recreate the shape like here. So we will start by creating the little rectangle or a width, so Alice like that and we will add an omelets on the top. So let's just make that so part a little bit more rounder and we will create another shape. Entry beats this curve on the top. Let's erase everything that we don't need. And we will need to wrap this shape with a seaweeds. We will need to go and we will need to create two parallel lines going through the whole shape. Let's just erase these parts and let's work on the shape of the rice. So we will again go and we will create the bumpy shape like that. We don't need these bumps right here where we have the seaweeds. So I will go, I will grab an eraser tool. I will erase everything that is not needed here. I will work a little bit more on the shape of the omelette. Let just show that the seaweeds have some volume and we will start creating our omelets a little bit underneath it. Also, let's show that the enolate itself has some volume. So we will need to recreate the sheet that we have on the board. And we will need to create a line like that. I will work a little bit more on the shape right here. I will make it a little bit smaller. Let's work a little bit more on the shape of the rise. If you want, you can go and selected, you can work with, you can play little bit with the shape. And when you're satisfied with the shape in general, let's add the facial features. I will adjust the seaweed and little bits. And when we array, Let's just add some facial features. So for example, for these Illustration alleges go a little bit aside. We will create the facial features right here. So let's just find the center of this piece and we will go and we will create some key see sushi. So for the eyes led, just start by creating the shapes like that. We will go and try to make them on the even distance from one another. They are known that curvy that we have here. They are just a little bit of the dance. When we have these bombs, let's just create the eyes above them. You can make the eyes bigger or smaller. It's up to you. And when we have the eyes, Let's add a little mouth. This time as we are creating a little kissy mouth, we will need to create the shape like that. So if it's hard to, you can just start by creating two drops like that and then erase the parts right here. Or you can just go and write down number 3. So when you are satisfied with this leg, just add little cheeks and let's add some legs and arms. So for the lax, choose the position that you want. And let's move on to the arms. So for one arm, I will create the curve like that and I will create that very flat line here. And onto this line, I will put a little heart. The second arm, you can go with any shape that you want. Now let us go to the selection tool. Let's select it. Let's play little bit with the shape onto that transform tool. You can distort work anything you already know what to do. Now let's work a little bit more onto a repositioning our elements onto the canvas. So go to the selection tool, go to the Transform tool, rotate them, move them, arrange them nicely onto the canvas. So when you are satisfied with the arrangement of your elements, Let's move on to the next part of the class where we're going to be creating the clean lines.
7. Making the Clean Lines: So for the recoloring, we will need to go to the layers and we will need to create one more layer. Let's just tap on to this little icon on the right. And let's put this layer with our coloring under the layer with the sketch. As for the layer with the sketch, we will need to tap on this little icon n and we need to adjust the capacity. We still need to see what's going on, but we don't really need it to border us. So let just leave it at 50, 55 percent. When it's done, we will swine this layer from right to left and we will choose lock that will prevent us from working on the wrong layer. Now let's get back to the layer that we created for the coloring and we will do the following. So let's just go to our brush library and let's pick another brush I will be working with. It's technical pen. We can go and SAP on this technical pen and go into the brush studio and we will increase the streamline value. Now we are going to be aging the outlines for our illustrations and we will need the smooth lines to check out if the streamline value is enough for you. You can go to this drawing paths and try it out when you are satisfied. Let just go to that top rights and we will hit Done. So now I will pick this brown color and I will go through all the illustrations and I will create the outlines. So let me show you how I'm going to be doing next. So let's just adjust the size of our brush and we will go along the shapes. And our main goal here is to create the closed lines. If you want to add some details or if you don't want to repeat everything with a 100 percent of similarity that you have on the layer with your sketch, you are welcome to do it. You can add details, you can erase details. It's all up to you. So I am adding the color that I'm using for the outlines for the legs because I don't want to recolor them lately and the same with the arms. So when you outlined everything with one illustration, just move on to the next one and do the lines on them too. Now let's check out how airlines went. And we will go to the layers and we will hide the layer with our sketch. Our main goal right here is to find the places that we can fix to close the lines and make everything look nice. So let's just go for all the shapes and we will fix some places.
8. Coloring Part: When you're satisfied with everything that you have here, we will go to the leaves and we will create one more layer for the color. So put this layer and the layer with our clean lines and we will do one more thing. We'll get back to our layer with the lines. We will tap on it and we will choose a reference. When we are setting the layer as a reference, we can work with the lines that we have on to this layer and to use them on the different layer. So let me just show you what I mean. I will go to the layer that we created for the coloring. I will go and I will grab another color. So for this market role, Let's just go and grab this dark color. We will go to the color and we will just drop it to this place, see that it worked perfectly. And if we didn't have this layer is set as reference, it won't work in this way. So for example, if we just go to the differently with the outlines that we have on the differently, we will receive something like that. And that's why we need to send the layer with the lines as a reference. So let's just go through all the shapes that we have here and we will quickly recolor them. You can use the color palettes that you can find in the project and resources tab. You can download it. You can use these colors into your illustration. Or if you don't like them, you can just select the colors that you like. Remember that you need to recolor the white places. So for example, the rise here, because now they are transparent. And if you change the color of your background, you will change the color of these places as well. So to check out, if you are recolor, an aref in that you need to recolor, let just go to the layers and ledgers, go to the background color, and let's just pick some color that won't bother us, but we will see the difference between white and the background color. So pick any color that you like. Now let's get back to the leader without coloring and continue recoloring our objects. So when you're recolored everything, that might be your last stage with these illustrations. But if you want to add some details, Let's just go and do that.
9. Adding Shadows, Highlights & Additional Elements: So for example, I will go to the layer with airlines and I will go and add the bombs with the rise like we have right here. Don't overdo it. Just add a few of them. If you want to add some additional elements. So for example, maybe some texture. You can go and do that as well. If you want to recolor some lines, for example, the cheeks right here, and maybe the eyes right here. Lynch's get back to the layer with our lines. Let's tap on it and let's set it as alpha lock. When we are working with alpha lock, we are working only with the content that we have on to this layer. In this case, we will be working just with the lines that we have on to this layer. So for example, let's just go and recolor the cheeks onto this illustration, we will pick the color that we have for the cheeks. We will grab the brush and we will just go over this place and recolor the lights if you want. You can always go back to the Brush Library and you can adjust the value of the streamline. Let just go for all the illustrations that we have and let's recolor all the lines that we have for the cheeks. If you want to recolor some eyes, you can just do it in the same way if you like this view of the very flat illustrations, That's the end of the class for you. If you want to add some shadows and highlights, we will do one more thing. We will go and we will create one more layer between the layer with the lines and the color, and we will tap on it and we will choose clipping mask from the menu. Clipping mask works the same way as an alpha log, but it is on the different layer. Now let's create the shadows. So we will go to this little icon n, and we will choose the multiply blend mode from this drop-down menu, we can adjust the opacity right away or weekend, just work on it a little bit later, we will go and we will grab some colors. So for example, I will go with some purplish one. I will go and add the shadow underneath this omelets so you can just go over the shape. You can see that I am not go and be on their freedoms. I will just creates the shadow here and we'll erase the line right here. And I will add the shadow on the sides. So by using this technique, you can go for all the illustrations that you have here and add the shadows in that way. To adjust the opacity, you can get back to the layer that we created for the shadows. You can tap on this icon entry. You can adjust the opacity slider right here. So find what works for you and go for all the illustrations and add the shadows in that way. If you want to adjust the color of the shadows, you can go to the adjustments, choose hue, saturation and brightness, choose Layer, and go through these sliders and find what suits your illustration when you are satisfied, just tap on this little icon on the top ends. We can move on to create the highlights. We will be doing it in the same way as we created our shadows. So we will go to the layers, we will create one more layer. We will set it as a clipping mask. This time, we will be working with the ads color modes or with the soft light or overlay. Let's just start by choosing the soft light. And if we don't like it, we will move on and we will find what works with our illustration. So firstly, we will go to the colors and we will choose probably these white color. So let's just go through the shapes and create some highlights. When you are ready with the highlights, Let's try out different blending modes. So for example, overly is work in a little bit more in a harsh way at will be even bolder. So I will leave it as a soft light. Also, I decided to go to the layer with our lines and I will add some highlights on the eyes. We already have it set as the alpha log. So we can go boldly to our Canvas, to our layer, and just add the highlights on the places that we need them to be. When you are done with this task, we are at the end of our class. I hope you found this class helpful and if you like this, please check out the other classes. Give a follow and believe your review. And thanks for watching.
