1. Introduction: Hello, everyone.
Thanks for joining me today for drawing pansies. Pansies are such a cheerful
and charming flower, and I just love drawing them. They come out here
in the spring, and I see them all
throughout the summer. And then they go
away for the winter, and I wait again for
the beautiful pansy to come out and into the gardens
and into the shop areas. They're just
everywhere right now. I'm Tammy, a Texas based artist
that does multimedia art. And I'm going to show you how to easily draw them through
a step by step process. You'll be able to get
the step by step guides in the projects and resources
area of the website, and they'll help you
with all the steps. And I'm going to be here to show you how to do all the drawing. You're not going to
need a huge amount of supplies or
anything like this. This is just a basic drawing
course for beginners. If you'd like to add the
beautiful and such a charming a pansy to your repertoire of flowers and botanicals
that you can draw. Join me in the next lessons. I'm gonna go over
all the supplies and all the things that
you'll need to do.
2. Supplies: Let's go over your supplies. You'll need a regular number two pencil,
your basic pencil, some paper, regular sketch
paper will work, an eraser. An eraser. A sharpener
for your pencil. And then a black pen. You can use any black pen. I'm using these microns. I got a four pack at Walmart. I'm going to use a number
three and a number five, so I have a couple of
different size pens. The rest of these supplies are just extras if you happen to
have them around the house. So pens, some colored pencils. A ruler can help you in
sizing for your flour. And then a white pen
if you want to add color and you want some
white pop on the color. So that's all. I'll see
you in the next lesson. We're going to go over anatomy.
3. Anatomy: Get your Pansy anatomy in the projects and
resources area. You'll also be able to get some reference images
that I've printed out. I've got quite a few reference
images from unsplash.com. It's a website that
gives you free images if you want to do drawings or
do your website and stuff. So unsplash.com, if you
want some reference images. So let's go over
the Pansy Anatomy. A Pansy symbolizes love
and thoughtfulness. It's great for gardens
and containers, and it's native to
Europe and Western Asia. It has five overlapping
petals, two lower petals. Two upper petals and a
broad bottom petal here. It also has a short stubby stem that's sturdy and
these little leaves, and you can go on to look at the references if you
want to do some leaves. It's got these little areas also of bursts of color
of different layers, dark color, light color. And that's part of the pansy. Most of them have
different amounts of that. Some have got deeper
veins than others. So now let's move on to drawing
the pansy from the front.
4. Draw the Front View: Et's now draw the Pansy
from the front view. You can get your step
by step guide in the projects and resources
area to download. It's a one sheet. And I'm going to go over all
the different shapes with you as we draw the
flower. So step one. Find a good, like, central section of your flower to start. And we're going to do
these three petals. So add a little dot
there just to give you an idea of where you want
your middle and your sides. Just a guide. Secrete this
little curvature here. It's like a little bit
of an upper heart. And you're going to do one
of those on both sides. And make sure you're giving it some curves. It's
sort of like ears. Now we're going to do
an upside down heart, sort of mimicking this. But we're doing the
center area like here. So we got two ears,
and now we're going to make another heart down here. Feel free to erase as needed. You're just getting
your rough sketch, and sometimes that
involves erasing and going back and
figuring out the shapes. If you need to pause the
video as we go along. Step two. Let's add the two upper petals for
a total of five petals. We've got these three here
and we need two more. And these petals should also
have the loads of curves. Step three, and add a thin and cute little
stem down here. And let's add in
these inner lines to show a change
in petal colors. Step four. Now, give this
flower loads of texture lines. I use a pull and flick
motion like this. Now, let's lightly
erase your flower. You'll want to still be
able to see your lines, but just have them
lightly visible. I'll have to do a lot more
erasing than you just because I'm using a darker
pencil for this lesson, whereas normally I'd
use a lighter pencil. Let's now move on to using the number five micron if
you happen to have one. If not, use whatever
pen that you have. I'm just going to go around all of the flower areas with this. But go at your own pace
and like I said earlier, pause the video as needed. Let's now move on to the
smaller nib, if you have one. If you don't stay with the
nib that you already have. I'm using that number three
and using that pull and flick as I'm doing the
intersections here, giving this flower
loads of texture. But you can add as few or
as many lines as you like. To finish off the flower, add a signature if you like. If you don't don't have to. But adding a
signature can be fun. So there's your first pansy. Let's now move on to drawing the pansy from the side view. I'll see you in the next lesson.
5. Draw the Side View: Let's now draw the Pansy
from the side view. This one's a little bit harder because it's skewed to the side. Get your step by step guide in the projects and
resources area, and I'll take you
through all the steps. Step one, add an upside
down curvy heart. It's sort of like a side
of an ear and feel free to erase and get the shape
just as you like it. It's sort of an oval with
loads of little curves. Now let's add in
the second piece. And let's add in the third bit. This is sort of like an
upside down heart, as well. Loads of little curves. Let's now move on to step two. We're doing this upper section. We're giving its
two upper petals, but they're skewed to the side. Step three, add a thin
and cute stem, as well. Add in these inner lines to show a change in petal colors. Now give this flower loads of texture lines and make sure they're going in the direction of the outer petal to inner petal and use that pull and flick motion
I'm showing here. Okay, so now let's
lightly erase and just take it down so you can see your lines, but
they're not bold. Let's now move on
to using your pen. I'm gonna use a
number five micron. That's the larger version, and I'm just going to go along all the outsides and
showing those bold pieces. Let's now move on to
the number three. If you have that smaller nib. If you don't just stay with
the pen that you have. And we're going to
do that pull and flick and give all
those inner lines. That's wonderful.
You've now completed your first pansy
from the side view. Give a signature if you like. And in the next lesson, we're going to go over
your class project. I'll see you there.
6. Class Project: Thanks so much for
drawing pansies with me today for
your class project, I just want you
to draw the pansy in the front view
or the side view, and then give it your
own personal touch. Give it extra flicks, add color, use colored pencils,
watercolors, paints. Make this flower your own, and then I want you
to upload it to the Projects and
Resources area so the class can see your work
and give you some love. So let me show you
how to do that. You're just going to come
over here to the website, and you're going to click the Projects and Resources area, and then from
there, you're going to click the submit project. Once you've done that,
you're going to come to a new page and you're going
to upload your image. You'll be able to give it
a title and a description, and you'll also be able to
add a video if you like, or additional images, and just tell me a little bit about
yourself and your art. Once you're done,
you're going to click Publish right up there, and you're going to then get some love and feedback from
all of us. Thanks so much. I'll see you in the next lesson.
7. Thank You: Thanks so much for joining me
for drawing pansies today. I hope the step by step guides made drawing this flower so much easier and me going through and showing you
all the steps, as well. If you'd like to draw
additional flowers with me, I've got sunflowers, roses, wild blue Irises, and
quite a few other classes. You can find those
under my profile. If you'd like to join
me online, I'm on X, Instagram, and on YouTube, and you can find all of
those links down below. I hope with the instruction
today that you're feeling the confidence to go
and try other flowers, as well as more of this one. It's just such a beautiful
and happy flower, and I hope it brought that
happiness to your life today. Thank you so much, and I hope to see you again
in another class. Take care. Bye bye.
