Digital Watercolor Forest - Playing with Adobe Fresco

1. Introduction: theme. Magical watercolors is what I'm so crazy about, and I'm sure you love them, too. I started my journey with this medium two years ago, and today I cannot stay away from it. Any single date. The blending, unpredictable results at the transparency can only be achieved with this beautiful medium, and I always wanted to achieve similar results on a digital platform with a graphic design background. I'm always experimenting with new digital graphic tools On recently I came across adobe fresco, which is a new app launched by Adobe for drawing tablets. This app is amazing for not one, but for so many reasons. But the main reason we are here today is the watercolor brushes that this comes with. If you have never picked up a real brush and want to explore your watercolor skills on a digital platform, I invite you to join my class where we will learn how to paint this beautiful and magical, realistic particular painting. Hi, my name is the shot and illustrator have a graphic designer currently based in the beautiful city of Dallas. When I recently started playing with adobe fresco, I loved how it replicates the original watercolor effects on a digital device. This act comes with amazing features, and the life pains are my favorite ones. While painting with watercolor brushes on fresco, you don't even feel like you're painting on an iPad or any of the digital to. It gives such a really untraditional feel and look to your painting. In this class, we will go through some of the basics off adobe fresco app. Then we will learn about the tools and brushes. I will teach you how to get those beautiful, cloudy and misty attacks in your painting, how to paint pine trees and finally have to crop your painting to get a profit. To find circular frames, we will take some inspiration from the Internet and use a monochromatic color palette for a project in this class. By the end of the class, we will have a magical piece off misty forest, ready to share on social media on even print on paper. In the next section, I will give you an overview off the adobe fresco into face and the basic tools and brushes 3. Fresco Overview: way are on her iPad now, and I open adobe fresco when you open the app, you will just see this dashboard. Very well. See some options on this gallery off your were killed. You will see two options, one as cloud documents. So whenever you work on fresco, the work that you create is automatically saved in Adobe Cloud so you can see all off your work heels. And if you have believed in anything that will come under, delete it. If you have any deleted work and in case you want to restore that, you can just tap on these three dots and restore. You can also permanently delete your work from the adobe clocked. After that, we have two options here. This is create new create newest for creating a new canvas. So under that you will see four options here First is recent. Recent is basically whatever you have created previously, like recent some recent canvas sizes, they will come here then you have saved. If you have saved any particular campus sizes that you may wanna reuse in your projects so you can save them on, they will come under the section. After that, you have digital and print. So digital and print are basically some standard formats that you can use on the main difference between both our is the resolution. So digital is normally very low resolution like 72 d p. I on for print it as 300 g p i just below that, you will see import and open. If you want to import any PSD file any for the shop file and you want to work on your iPad , you can just statically goto PST on. It will take you to this option where you can browse. You can get your files from Dropbox or, if you have anything on your iPad seat saved on your eye. But you can also get that. And if you have anything that you have created and sketch or draw APS well, you can also import them. Apart from that, we have start a new document that was the same at this one, and this is what's coming new to fresco, so they always keep the section updated like, so you can see what's coming in future in fresco on Dhere. There you will see on the top right corner. There is the settings option here. When you open this, you will see some general settings. So under general you will see interface settings. If you want to have your toolbar on your canvas on the right inside, even just use this option and move it to the right inside. So let's say I just stop on right on. And you can also change the color team off on the up link from light to dark. So it has changed her dog, but I don't want it to be dark, and I don't want the tool bar on the right inside, so I'll keep it left next as quick export settings. So if you want to just quickly export your artwork, you can just choose the format, whatever you wanted to and you could just exported as quick export settings. And after that, you can just have a look at all these options. And you can just play around and whatever you want to change, you can just change. All right? For this class, I'm going to use a very basic digital former. I'm going to create the under digital. I'll just go with the square. Former, you can. You can use any size that you are comfortable with, so I'll just click on create document and my document is ready. Okay. It's not I think I did not choose the right one, uh, custom size and square. All right, so we have the document ready. So in the next section, our talk in detail about the brushes and other tools 4. Tools: in this section. After that, we have oh, square or a rectangle on a lip selection. So we are going to use the selection tool in our project today. And then we have pain pocket, dude. So if you want to change the color of the selection, you can just select the color on, then being pocket and change the color pain bucket. Exactly. Works like it works and other applications, like for the shop and illustrator. Then we have eye dropper to select the color. Simple. Then this option is for picking up any image from outside and putting it here. We are also going to use this in later. I'll show you that. So if you want to click a image. He was camera. If you have anything in your camera roll, it can just go to photos are. If you have anything in files or creative flower, you can just open that. And then we have this color real option where you can change the color. You can also create a color palette here for the time being. Okay, we have covered the left in part. On the right hand side botany corner, you will see this ruler. There's a score creating straight lines. So if you want to create a straight line, you can just to you was this ruler. Sorry, I have to have a brush ready. Simple. This is very simple. If you want to change the orientation, you can just move the ruler anywhere on the screen and create the lines. Even you can make a time lapse on export that so we're done with the tools Now in the next section, I'll explain more about thes three brushes, how they work and let's go 5. Brushes: All right, So now we're in the canvas here on the 1st 3 options that we see on the left side. Here in the toolbar are the brushes. So the first option is pixel brushes. Pixel brushes are basically just like 40 sharp brushes. Let's see, I just like this hard, wrong brush. If I zoom in quite far, you will see that this is a pixel brush on the fun part is you can work with directors as well as pixels in the same canvas at same time in fresco. So this is really cool. Feature off fresco. Okay, so if you want toe, grab some off your forties your brushes. If you want to import some pressure from the shop or anywhere, you can just go to pixel rushes and there's a plus sign your you can just tap on this and you have two options. So if you click on get more precious, it will take you toe adobe dot com. You will see the library of brushes over here and kids just download them. Whatever you want to use, okay and import from files will take you to your own file folders like Dropbox or you can also go toe iCloud drive or if you have any brushes in your iPad and you could just go there on grab those. So this is a basic function for pixel brush is only I don't think we have anything for directors here. Yeah, under effective Russia's. We cannot do that. Once you have selected any kind of brush, you will find these some of these options below. Here you can use this bar and take it anywhere on the screen. This circle is for the color wheel. Andi, if you want, you can also change the human saturation, and that way it will change the colors off the brush. All right. Under watercolor brushes, we have four types of brushes first of watercolor Wrong date, then watercolor wash, soft, wash flat and once splatter. So this is the magic on watercolor paints in fresco on right, Let's now go to oil colors. I'll clear this layer after watercolor. We have oil beats. So this is These are like, I think six or seven paints. I'm sorry, Brushes seven brushes and I'll show you how they work. So I don't know whether you can see this or not. You can see the texture, I guess, the texture. This is what, exactly how we can get on canvas our paper when we paint with oil, oil paints. Next, I'll take some other color and start using it. So now you can see that they kind of blend with each other how they're blending exactly like the oil paints do on traditional surface. So you can try creating beautiful portrayed or still life on fresco. And you could just try out all these different types off brushes, all that stuff. All right, under that, we have all the same options, color and then size. This is a flow and what this is this is the paint mix. So this is the intensity off mixing off how the pains are gonna mix. So let's just try to increase it. 200. Let's see how it works. And if I decrease it, how it works, You know, I think you could see the difference, and then we have some options here. I'm not going to make any changes to that. So this is how our life brushes were. After that, we have rector brushes. So Rector Russia's first thing pixel brushes and water called the life pressures are pixel based pressures. It works like a dry pressure. So now we're done with the brushes. Let's move on to our next section and ritual. Create a color palette for our painting. 6. Color Palette : I learned about the tools on the brushes. Now it's time to work on our project. So first thing first, I will talk about color palette in this class. We are going to create monochromatic, misty forest, something which we can easily create with watercolors, like having such blends or such washes off water watercolor on paper and for that will take some inspiration online. So I think we'll go with some blue. Let's just take this as an inspiration. I'm just taken the snapshot and I'll go back to Fresco, and what I'll do is I'll use this icon to get that for dope in my canvas on a What we don't want is the color toe. Create a color palette. What you can do is either you can just I drop on, take the colors on, get them on your campus, are either you can. What you can do is just go to the color wheel and go to reasons. Make sure the canvas is completely new. So what you have to do is just beauty eye dropper and start digging up the corners from the image. Go to the color veal and tap on plus again I drop her take a little darker shade upon plus Sorry. Plus. Then again, I drop her on picked another shade then tap on. Painting Background: All right, So now we are ready with a color palette. We have our can was ready. We knew how to use watercolor brushes. Now it's time to move on to our project. So first thing first will create a new layer on. We're going to fill this layer with very random color, which we're not going to use in our project. So I take this purple tone on use a paint bucket tool to fill it on. When we fill it, just select picks up. All right. Next. We're not going to use this layer, so I'm going to just lock it next. I'm going to create another layer on. Now we're going to create the circle under in which we're going to create a painting. So I'm going to select though selection tool and use a lips, and then I'll double tap on this and create a perfect soccer like this, Right? No, As you can see, that this is not exactly in the center. So first thing, what we should do with use any color. I'll use white on fill it with the pain buck and use pixel here. Then using transform tool on dragging it in the center. Done. All right. Now I'll select mosque here on reveal is selected. That is fine. And now, since we have mosque that we have created the mosque, you will see that these options are not visible or active. So before creating pine trees in this painting, I'll show you how toe paint your pine trees by ourselves. Also, if you are not very comfortable in our, you know, painting the pine trees, I have created some 40 shall brushes, which you can download on import here, using the pixel brushes and going to this option on used those as temp rushes for your pine trees. But I would recommend painting your own for the pine trees. I just give you a demo, creating a new layer for the pine trees I'm going to use under pics of rushes sketching, and I'm going to use pencil simple pencil. I'm just giving a demo first, and then I'll create the pine tree for the class on the zoom in a little bit for the pine trees. What you can do with, just create a straight line and simply just make sure the site is not too high. Simply scribble like this. The shape off the pine trees mostly like something a cone, something like this. Or maybe some trees have large, very tall bark on very less branches and they end up somewhere in the middle on some are from top to bottom. They're covered with the branches so you can create very relations off trying trees like that. So simply going like this, I don't know whether you can see the for not. This is a very fun exercise if you want to. You don't have precise with anything. So this is very cool. And we are not worrying much about the lower part of the trees because ultimately we're going to blend this portion with water. So as long as you can create something like this, are maybe something up to this, you can see that hold roughly. I'm doing it. I'm not really worried about my strokes. Here you've been created tree like this. The line has to be straight on a one more way off. Creating a pine tree is by keeping the angle off, though branches upwards. Something at this. So I'm going to delete this later. I'm not going to use it. And second thing I wanna show you is how to make bards. So I'm going to use catching brush. Only for one way is those very simple. But like you have to just go from left to right down and then up like this. Very simple. Another way is opposite something like this. I'm not too good with that. But you can. Andi, the final layer has to be here something. Select a brush and double tap on this so that we have fewer water on. Just make sure the flow has to be somewhere in the middle. Not too high on size. Size has to be wrong. 60. You don't have to press your pencil or you don't have to, you know, make harsh strokes. You just have to very gently soft in these edges like this, especially on this outer area. Just try toe. Raise the lower portions of that. It looks like the mist is coming up and the trees are going to be hidden in the missed. Next will take another shade and start with our trees again. On this time I'm just doing it upwards, making one more. I feel like the histories look far beautiful then the others Yeah, I think one more here it's looking beautiful. All right, so the same thing using more door and then starting pending using a razor again, doing the work moving harsh enters and now coming to the last layer with the darker shade off trees on for the Spartan. Where are going to use that blending? Because this is going to be the darkest one, So we can just go ahead and create these trees. And another thing that I want to add here is just going to the top most background layer. I'm going to use this color on going to use water Horta color using the wrong detail rush so that we can have a bit of darkness like this. All right, so the painting is complete. The last thing that we are left with is boards. I don't need a new layer for that. I can go with the trees layer and use the sketch pencil brush and start with the lightest food so that it gives a feel That board is far in the woods somewhere there, then taking a darker shade. So there you then taking another for the docker shade. - All right, so we are done with the painting. Now we can just simply go ahead and leave this layer because we don't want it on. One thing you can also do is if you want to create a circular, are round circle around so you can just go ahead and create one more layer.
