1. Intro: Hey, guys, I'm so excited to share with you my second class here on skills here. My first class used some chalk brushes to create a digital chocolate earpiece. And in this class, we're going to use to those jock brushes as well as a couple of other brushes from procreate to combine some lettering with an arrangement of flowers and foliage on brown paper background. I love combining black white on this lightly speckled brown paper to create a beautiful piece of art. And so, for the project in this class, you can choose any would you like for the letters part in the center? And then you are going to add this beautiful arranging the flowers, which you could very well walking through. Sketching the design idea, Dr Flowers leaves and twist and shadow to your lettering. For this class, you will need an iPad pro after pencil appropriate app, some additional shock brushes as well as the free download of brown paper background I will provide for this class. If you don't have any choc persons yet, I will include a video to show you where you can purchase them and how important that into the appropriate out. So join the class. Let's create some art on brown paper
2. Sketching the design: All right. So the first thing we need is a piece of paper and a pencil to do our sketch. I'm going to start with a horizontal straight line and I'm going to draw another one parallel to that one. In between these two lines is where we're going to have our text, and I'm going to draw a vertical line in the center in order to help me center my word. So I'm going to write the word grateful on the side here, which is the word I want to put in the in between these two lines. So I want to see where is this centre here? The center is right between the tea and the E. So I don't have one letter in the center, but two letters in the center. So I'm going to have to write my t towards the left of the center and my e just on the right hand side of my centerline for the lettering for this word. I'm going to use block lettering, so I'm just going to have one down stroke as a thick line. And the rest of the lines are just gonna be thin going to speed up the rest of these letters here. Once I have finished my letters on the right side of the line, I'm going to continue from the center towards the left and on the G here. I'm going to kind of draw my thicker line into a curve, just as I did with EU over here. Usually I would take my G all the way up to here. But since every other line from the A, the in the F is further down, I'm going to do the same with the G. So I'm gonna put the line here so that it's all uniform. All right, So when I have finished my word, the next thing we're going to Dio is to draw our floral arrangement at the top, which were then going to duplicate on the bottom when we're in the procreate app. So we're just gonna draw the top bit now and then duplicated later, I'm going to start my flower about that pretty much in the center, and I'm just going to draw the left pedal first, and then the right, and then I'm gonna do kind of thes little cloud forms towards the top and the right and then adding a a single pedal on the right and the left below. What I've already drawn and then kind of just continue adding some pedals, Um, where I want to have some. And then this will be the center of the flower. Um, which I then can also add some detail later. I like to draw a couple of leaves towards the top of the flower because we want to fill that space as well. Um, but then we also want to see where we want to put flowers towards the right and the left hand side of this middle flower. So I'm just gonna kind of plan out where I'm gonna put some flowers and what size they're going tohave. I like to put one middle flower towards the right hand side and two slightly smaller flowers on the left to have a balanced design, some basically just going to draw the same over here. I have my two beginning pedals, and then I add a pedal on the right and the left hand side and a kind of cloudy pedal on top. Gonna do the same over here, drawing my beginning pedals right and left and then drawing a little kind of a cloud formation on the top and having my centers of the flower and then just kind of having some little leaves that come off of the stem. And then we're going to draw one last little flower, and the small flowers are the flowers that are kind of just opening. So I kind of dropped 3 to 4 pedals, just, um, really tightly together. And that is my small flower. So once we have all over flowers now we want to fill the gaps with some leaves in some twigs. So I'm going to add a leaf over here, and this is a beautiful space to fill with a little twig. And since small leaves and there's a lot of space over here that we still want to. Fila's well thing that we need to be careful of is that we don't put too many leaves right next to each other, so you want to space it out and have variety with the the leaves and the twigs in the flowers that we use. So this area right in between the flowers is kind of tight, but I'm going to fit another twig in here. And it's okay if there's some overlapping, because we can always erase something in the procreate app. Okay, So once you have done everything, you can just kind of look over your sketch and see where something's still missing. We can also just add a few dots here and there to finish the little. Okay. Okay. So this is what we have now, And this is what will be then copied towards the bottom. What we need now is our iPad, and I'm just going to hit the camera app to take a picture of my drawing here. The important thing is to take a picture of your whole page so that you can center that perfectly then in your procreate up. 3. Importing sketch: All right, so we're going to start with appropriate app, and we're going to hit the plus sign in the right hand corner and go to create custom size . We're going to take a with the 5000 pixel and a height of 4000 pixels. And you can rename this canvas to 5000 by 4000. Once he had enter your canvas is going to magically appear and you can just kind of center that so you can see the edge of the well, I like to see that just a little bit. And the next thing we're going to do is bring in our sketch. So we're gonna click on the wrench and hit the plus go to insert a photo and go to recent photos. And the last photo you took is right over here. So that will add the photo, and you can then size it so that it is about the size of your picture or your our board. Try to center it so that the horizontal lines are pretty much horizontal and that you also still have sufficient room underneath your parallel lines for the second bouquet. Okay, so when we hit the layers. I'm going to click on the end and take the opacity down about 2 30 40 so that I can just barely see it. Now I'm gonna hit the wrench again. Click on Insert a photo, and now we're going to insert the background that you received as a free J peg from the skills her class. Once it's on your art board, just pull it with your fingers so that it fills the entire art board and then click on the arrow to de select. You'll see your background here, but you want it behind your sketch. So you needed dragon. Drop that underneath your first layer. All right, so now we're ready to hit the next video, where we're going to add colors and brushes.
4. Colors: to create our color palette. We're gonna click on the round color on top, and then we want to click the plus to create a new palette by clicking on untitled pallet. We can rename this palette. I'm going to call it brown paper hit, enter. And now we want to click on value at the bottom to put him the Hexi Decimal codes. So the first code we're gonna add is 514 B 49 hit, enter and the color of the top changes. And if you click in the first square, that color will add, then erased the Hexi decimal code and add the new code for the second color, which is to 6 to 7 to be hit. Enter the color changes at the top and then click on the second square toe. Add that color, then erased the Hexi decimal code again and add the code for the white color, which is F zero e, c E, c, and hit. Enter the color changes and tap on the third square For the fourth color, we're going to add the Hexi Decimal code three e three c three f hit, enter and click on the fourth square. These are now the colors that we're going to need for this project. And if you click on palette, you will see that this palette that we just created is now our default palette.
5. Chalkbrushes purchase & import: Hey, guys, in this video, I'm going to show you where you can purchase the chalk brushes that I like and that I use in my classes. If you already have other chock brushes that you would like to use, feel free to use those than. But if you don't have any yet and you would like to use the ones that I'm using, you can go to etc. And purchase those and download them into your appropriate app. And in this video, I'm going to show you exactly how to do that. So if you already have jock brushes, just skip this video and go on to the next one. Okay, so the first thing we need to do is to go toe at sea and type in the search bar. Procreate, brushes, hit, enter, and then we will find the choc brush set by Lynn Haven designs. Click on that and then purchase or by enter your purchase information and then go buy those brushes. We'll take you through the purchasing process. I just forward it to the download. So click on the download and here are all the files that we need it, that we need to download. We'll click on the 1st 1 and I used the eyes Zip, app to unzipped. Thes. All right, so here we are. I'm gonna click on unzip when I go out on more, and we're just gonna click away on this, and it will open those three brushes that we have Unzipped just hit. Okay, here. And Okay. So what I've tried is I tried, um, importing all three brushes at the same time. Um, and for some odd reason, that does not work. So if I click all three, don't tell me that that's not possible. So Okay, no. And we'll just have to click one brush and say open in, and it procreate and procreate will open up with the last thing that you were working on. So we're just gonna click gallery at the plus button on the upper right hand side and hit. Create custom size. So you condone. Use whatever you want for your custom board, but we're gonna do 4000 by 5000 pixels right now. Okay? And I can rename this, and I'm just gonna call it 4000 by 5000 and hit, enter and then automatically. That board will open up. So now, if we click on brushes and at the very bottom of import brushes, there is that brush that we just imported. And if we scroll down our palates, um, we can open a new set and give this a name. We're gonna call it shock and then go back to imported brushes and click and drag that brush into the chalk palette. And there we have our first brush. So now we need it. Um, repeat this. So we go back to our files, uncheck the 1st 1 and check the 2nd 1 hit open in and procreate. And there it is again in the imported brushes and drag and drop that into our choc pellet. Now we have to and will do the same thing again with 1/3 brush. Uncheck the 2nd 1 check the 3rd 1 go open in procreate and go into the imported brushes and drag and drop that into your chalk palette. Hopes. Okay, there we go. So we have three brushes. We're gonna do the same thing with the other files. Okay, so now you are set with your choc brushes. You have them all here together in your chalk brush palette. And now you can continue on to the next video where we're going to add some more brushes.
6. Brushes: now we're going to create our brush group. So I'm going to pull down here on this side and I'm gonna click on the plus to add a group . I'm going to call this group Brown paper just like my last pallet hit Enter. And this is now the new palest. I now want to copy some brushes that I have downloaded and ones that are already in my brush palette. So for the choc brushes in this project, I'm using the LAN haven design shock brushes. But if you have shock brushes from other sources than you can use those instead. So I'm gonna click on this medium shock brush, swipe to the left and hit duplicate to make a copy of this. And then I'm going to drag and drop that into my brown paper group, getting click on shock again and I need the light chalk round brush, and I'm going to drag that into that group as well. Now I need to add some brushes from the calligraphy group, so I'm going to click on that and I need a monoline. So hit your monoline, swipe to the left, duplicated and drag that duplicated brush to your brush group. We also need a couple more brushes from this pallet. We need the shale brush, which is right here. So click on that swipe left it duplicate and drag that copy into your group. And now we need two more brushes. Well, we actually, when we need one brush, which is the brush spent, swipe left, duplicated and drag that duplicate into your group. Once in this group, swipe left again to duplicate that because we need to copies of the brush pin. So now we need to make some changes to these brushes we're gonna collect on the 1st 1 And at the bottom, we're gonna click on dynamics, and we want to go on to normal so that the brush is not glazed. Then click on General at the bottom says size limits. You want the max size to be it about 70% and the minimum size at 1%. Now, you can also name your brush of the top and call that shadow. Next, you want to click on the second brush again here, we want to go on dynamics and click normal and then it general, and take that size limit down to about 40% and the minimum size all the way down to zero. And then give that brush the name small and hit. Enter, then click on the little arrow to go back. Now we want to go and change the shale brush for the shield brush. We want to click on grain, and we want to take this scale up all the way to 51% about then go to general and check that the maximum sizes max and the minimum sizes by about 11%. And then we're just gonna leave the name as it is, so we can just click on the arrow to go back. We don't have to change anything for monoline and the other two brushes or set as well. All right, then we are ready to start our design and we're going to start with her lettering in the next video
7. Lettering: for littering. The first thing we want to dio is to click on the white, and we're going to draw some guidelines for lettering. So go to model line and add a new layer. I'm gonna erase that one. First, add a new layer by clicking on the plus sign and then draw a horizontal line. It doesn't have to be perfectly straight because we're gonna make it perfectly straight. Now hold it at the end of the line and then click your left finger on the iPad to make it perfectly straight. And horizontal says you can see here I can move this blind around. But when I click with my left finger on the iPad, it's perfectly straight and horizontal. So I'm going to add an extra line at the bottom and at the top of my lettering so that I could make sure that my lettering is all the same height in the sketch here, you can see that my G is lot taller than the rest of my lettering. At the end. I'm going to take this layer down with the opacity to about 30% so I can just see it, and then I'm gonna hit a new layer, go to my darkest color and then also go to Monoline. Now we're going to draw the outlines of our letters, but we're going to make sure that our brush is at the size of about 36%. And now I'm just going to draw the outlines. And then I'm going to fill that layer by simply pulling the round color into the center of my letter. I'm gonna do the same now with the rest of these letters. Just gonna make sure that the part that I'm filling with color is completely closed off so that all the edges air touching. If there is a, um, space open, then that color will fill the whole art board. So I'm just gonna continue drawing my lines and my letters, making sure that the letters are all the same height and then I can just simply fill these . All right, beautiful. So once we have done that, we're done with our word. We're going to do some embellishing a bit later. But for now, we're just gonna rename our layer to grateful or lettering, whatever you like.
8. Floral arrangement - Part 1: So next we want to create another layer and give it a name. We're gonna call this flowers and on this layer, we're going to create our top floral arrangement. We need our white color and our medium chock brush at the bottom here, and then we're going to zoom in a bit and we're going to start by drawing the center flower . So basically, what we're going to do now is with our white chalk brush. We're just gonna copy everything or trace everything that we have drawn in our sketch. Everything is going to have a nice, crisp white outline, and then we're going to later add some smudged chalk to give it a little more dimension in the center of the leaves. I'm just going to add a center vein and then later in the next video, we're going to add a few more thinner veins in the lease. Okay, so we're later going to copy this to the bottom. But now we just wanna have a look at our design and see if there's anything missing. So to me, here, this right little corner still needs a leaf or a twig. So I'm just going to add a twig here because I already have a leaf just below the flower. So to keep it a nice variety, I'm going to just add a little tweak here. Okay, That looks a lot better. So the next thing we're going to do is to add some dots to our floral arrangement. So I need a new layer, and I'm going to call this layer dots. Next, I'm going to take my fourth color, and I now need to use the model line, and I'm going to start by drawing a few dots, and I can now see that my monoline is too small, so I'm gonna go up to 50% and this now is a great size for my dots for the center of my flowers. So I'm just going to continue drawing dots in the center until my center is pretty full of dots and the dots are now partly on top of my white lines from the outlines. But we're going to just put that layer towards the back in a minute. So you just want to make sure that those dots don't go beyond the white outlines. I also like toe out of few dots here and there around the floral arrangement because it just kind of gives it a nice feel and rounds up the whole design. So here we can now see that the dots are covering the white outlines. So I'm gonna drag my layer below my flowers layer and all of a sudden the dots are underneath outline, and I can just continue designing. So next I want to fill the pedals with some smudge talk, and I'm going to add another layer below dot so have to click on grateful and add another layer. And I'm going to choose my white chalk color and for the brush, I need this light chalk round. And now we're going to add some smudge shock at the bottom of the pedals. I'm going to go to 21% for the size, and I need to add some pressure to this chalk brush for it to have a nice, full and pretty opaque look. And I'm just going to pull from the center to the sides and just basically chalking the lower parts of those pedals. And I'm going to do the same with all of my pedals and my leaves and If I go beyond my outlines, I can just click on the eraser tool and erase everything that went beyond outlines. So here you can also see that I'm just chalking in the bottom half of the different pedals . And whenever I go over the lines, I just erase whatever smudged over those outlines to show you a little bit of how Teoh best use this brush. It's important that you use a good pressure. So if you use too little pressure, you have very thin lines. Um, but you want a nice, even thick, dispersed chalk. So you want to add a lot of pressure to get a good dispersed sprayed chocolate almost like a really nice smudged chalk. So I'm going to just continue adding this Ah smudged shock look to all of the pedals and all of the little leaves, and I'm always just pretty much chalking in half of everything. So half the leaves, half the pedals and then erasing any choc that went beyond that outlines. All right, this is looking pretty good. It's in the next video. We're going to add some veins and finish up our floral design
9. Floral arrangement -Part 2: So for this next part, we're going to open up a new layer and were quickly just gonna rename our earlier that we just created, um, in the previous video, shocked blending just to keep everything organized. And our new layer now is going to be the veins layer. So the veins of the leaves, they're going to have their own layer. And I'm just gonna call this means, All right, So the brush that we need now is the small brush, and it's gonna have the size of 14%. And now you're just going to draw very light lines, and I'm gonna take this down to 47% so that the lines aren't too brightly white. Um said that they are just really kind of like veins. And, um and I'm just going to draw those out from the center and pulling upward. And I'm not pulling up to the edge of the pedals, just kind of, ah, little beyond the sent the middle of the leaves, where the pedals. So I'm drawing the veins of the flowers and I'm also drawing veins of leaves, the floor veins, They kind of just go from the bottom to the top. And then, of course, the veins of the leaves. They go from the center out to the sides. I also draw just one little line in the small leaves on the twigs. So just one line in the center these veins give the whole floral arrangement just a nice little finishing touch. Awesome. We're done. And now I'm just gonna think I think I'm gonna crank this up just ah, little more so I'm 65% and then I can just have a look at that if everything's OK and I'm really liking the way it looks. So what I'm gonna do now is I'm going. Teoh put thes three all these four layers into a group, and then I'm going to swipe to the left to duplicate that group. And now, having that group selected, I'm gonna hit the arrow key at the bottom. Then click rotate until the design is completely on its head. And then you can just drag that down so that it is butting against the bottom line there and you just want Teoh position it so that it is perfectly centered underneath it. Sign then hit the blue arrow to de select. And then we're gonna go into our layers and de select layer one, which is our sketched background. We can also do select the lines that we had and now you can see are finished design. So I'll see you in the next video, then to create some lettering shows.
10. Shadow lines & Final words: So what we still want to do is we want to add a shadow to our lettering. Now, this is something that I did would with actual brush pens. But just to show you what we're going to, ah, want to do digitally now on the iPad is this shadow. I also have the shadow up here, and this is all on brown paper. And so we're going to imitate this now, Here on the iPad, we are going to need a new layer, and we're going to put this layer below are grateful layer because we want the shadow to be underneath it. So we're gonna call this layer shadow, and now I need my first color, my first grade, and I'm going to take the opacity down to 60% about 61%. And the brush that I need is the one that we named Shadow. So what I'm going to do now is I'm deciding that I want my shadow on the right hand side. So basically, my son or my light source is gonna be on the left, so every line that is vertical is going to have a shadow line on the right and the way that I'm going to draw the shadow line is that it buds up exactly against the black of the lettering. I don't wanna have any, um, spaces in between the lettering and my shadow. Nor do I want my shadow to go beyond my lettering. So everything towards the right. So this line here also gets a shadow. But I'm not adding a shadow next to the horizontal line of the G. So I'm just gonna continue drawing my lines. And if I go beyond my lettering, I can just also take the eraser and erase that away or just redo it. Since this is a kind of like a brush lettering brush, um, which is pressure sensitive. I need to make sure that I'm using about the same pressure to have a pretty uniform line. So sometimes you can see with my e here, for example, I'll have a little wobbly lines, so I can just, ah, used the eraser to clean up my shadow lines. So, as you can see, because we took the A pass ity down on this layer, I can actually see the speckles through this layer of the brown paper in the background, which gives it a more natural look. Okay, so now that we're done with our shadow, the next thing we're going to do is to put those lines back right below our floral arrangement. So to finish, offer littering, we're going to add another layer and drag that above grateful. And we need the white color and the slate brush, and we're going to add ah, highlight on top of our lettering. So we're gonna crank her brush up to 4%. And now we're going to add some lines in the upper left quarter just to make that lettering pop a little bit more. So it gives the lettering a little shine. And this is about the length of the line that we want, And every thick line of the lettering gets one of thes little shiny lines. So, as you can see, it just helps the whole word to pop a little more. So we have the black lettering, we have the shadow, and we have the white glaze on top of it. So for the last step, we want to add another layer, and we're gonna put this layer just above the floral groups and this is going to be a line just below the floral arrangement. So turn on the layer with your guidelines and take the medium shock brush. And we're going to just basically trace the upper and the very lower line. And we need about, ah, the thickness of 11% for this brush. And I'm just going toe, draw the line and then hold it at the very end. So it straightens out perfectly and then let go. I'm going to do the same at the bottom two straw line. Hold it at the end, so it straightens out and let go. Okay, so now I can turn off the guide in the background. And as you can see now, I have a couple of leaves hanging over this line. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to click on mask for this layer and gives me new layer . But in order to use the mask, I need a perfect black. So I need to double click on the bottom of the color wheel, and now I'm going to be on my layer mask layer. And now Aiken just mask out everything where the line is drawn over the leaves or the pedals because I want the leaves and petals toe look like they're hanging above this line and not like the line was just drawn over the leaves. So once I finished that, I am going to turn around my our board to do the same with this floral arrangement. But now I'm seeing that my line is a little too far away from where floral arrangements. So I have got this gap in between my line and the and the twigs, so I need to move this line up. Both lines are on the same layer, though, so I need to have my layer with a line selected click on the arrow to select this line and then hit the arrow key Hoops selected all select. This line hit the arrow key, and I just slightly pulled us up a little bit. So it's butting up against my twig. Okay, so I can click on the layer mask again and finish masking away all of those lines that were on top of the leaf, the pedal and this leaf as well. And that is pretty much it. We have completed our design. Let's just turn that around again. Have a look if there any errors that need taking care of. And other than that, we're done with our design.
