1. Introduction: Hello and welcome to design theory adapted for Canada. In this course, you're going to be learning design theories and how to apply them using Can va. This course is a very condensed course, and it is designed so that you get the information that you need in order to start creating designs. I hope you enjoy this course, and please do not forget to leave a review. Let's start designing. 2. Design Theory Lecture: Hello, everybody, and welcome to design theory. I hope you guys enjoy this course, and I just wanted to say real quick that this is the only time you're really going to be hearing a lecture. So please stay with me till the end, and we will. We get into some designing and more of the fun stuff that applies to a graphic design. So let's get started there. Three main theories or concepts in design and that is hierarchy, alignment and dynamics. Just as a brief overview hierarchy is the organization of information alignment is how things are arranged within the composition, and that could be images or typography, and they often operate within a grid. And dynamics is kind of a looser term. A lot of people often say, Oh, that design is very dynamic, and that just means that there is a contrast of various objects within the composition as we move on to higher keep. It is just the organization of information, and this kind of goes way back into like art history, where they have higher cool scaling. I think I'm saying that correct. But it's often in portrait. It's a lot of people are larger because they were more important. So if we think about that concept and we apply that to design, that just means whatever information that were given to put on a design. Whether it's a poster design and ad campaign, the most important information needs to be the largest and the least important. Information needs to be the smallest, so that there is a contrast between large, medium and small. Now, by organizing this information into large, medium and small, it creates clear communication for the consumer of whatever you're designing. Now, when our information is organized, it creates clear communication to the consumer, which then creates a dynamic design and dynamic designs are often the ones that we remember , and a nutshell. Hierarchy is telling the consumer what they need to know. Now we need to talk about alignment because everything is based on a grid. So when you're creating a design and we will get into this further when we do practical applications and future lectures, alignment helps organize information, and it shows us where we need to look within the composition, which in turn helps create a dynamic design. So alignment follows hierarchy because you've got this information you're going to put on a grid and you're going to. Furthermore, organize the information. So the take away with the line meant is that organizes the hierarchy in the composition now dynamics. A lot of people referred Teoh designs as a dynamic design or of re memorable design and dynamics. Once again, hopes organized information, and it provides contrast. So a lot of the times in a good, dynamic design, there will be a lot of contrasts, so there will be various colors can provide contrast. You can also use contrast and typography. You can use all caps and then just have no the regular sentence underneath. And by having various contrast ing elements that work together within a design, it creates a unique design. So dynamics occurs when hierarchy and alignment are well organized within a composition. Now you're going to go into some useful terms that are good to know, but you don't need to memorize thumb Now. Inches are generally used for print, such as flyers and posters. Now, pixels are used for Web based design that is digital. Now when we talk about scale, is making objects or text larger proportionately, which means you are either blowing up or shrinking the object in proportion, which means equally there there some images that you can stretch where it's longer than it is wide, and it's not proportionate. It makes it look squished. So I will be showing you this and can vote, which is what we're gonna be using now when we are talking about setting up a document for , like, print or if you're going to be using pixels, is where RGB and see why NK come and to play now with can va, you don't have to worry about this, but when you're in adobe, you have to pick whether you want RGB or C Y M kay. So basically, RGB stands for red, green and blue, and it is used for digital designs. And it is just the display that the computer uses and see white and pay, on the other hand, is kind and magenta, yellow and key word. It just means black, and these are used for print. So these air the ink that the printers use, and you will want Teoh. Choose that if you are doing posters, cards or anything that gets printed, so a bleed is what you need to set when you are printing a poster or anything that you want your, um, color to be extended the full page. So a lot of the Times posters their design is extended to the full page. So when you are setting up your document and we will even look at this when we do a design in Canberra, you will want to add an additional 0.1 to 5 inches to your document size. So a bleed is what you use when you are going to get something printed. Now we're going to be talking about complementary colors and color theory. Color theory is just saying these are complementary colors and these air what go together, which it's important to know. But in our day of Internet and stuff, it's not too hard to find good color palettes online, so I'm just going to share with you. Complementary colors are red and green, blue and orange, purple and yellow. Two more terms that are important to know are your target audience, which is basically, who are redesigning for. So basically, if you're doing a poster design for a romcom, your target audience probably isn't going to be a 25 year old man. It's probably gonna be, you know, 13 Teoh like 30 year old women. So you're not going to be using black and red and gray colors for this movie poster. You're going to be using more pastels that appeal, Teoh your target audience. And this is an important idea that you need to think about when creating a design. And I'll go into this further into the next lecture ID only we're going to be talking about typography and typography is just various types of fonts, and typography can be equally as powerful as images. I have seen many posters that are pure typography that have a longer lasting effect than imagery. We have just finished our first lecture. Never again will I be sitting here just talking at you guys. The next lectures are going into being be showing you how to use can va and how to create designs in it, and how to use these theories that I have just talked about in creating those designs. So I hope you guys really enjoyed this. Don't forget to leave a review and please go on to the next lecture 3. Canva Intro: Hello, everybody. Today we're going to be exploring Camba, and what you will need to do is you'll need to go ahead and sign up for a account and you'll have to go through the whole process. It's super easy, and then once you do that, you are going to go ahead and log in. Once you log in, you are going to see this interface, and you're going to have various designs that you can create. Your designs that you have created will go here, and then if you want to use a custom design, you will enter information that you need it and you'll select whether you need pixels, inches, millimeters or centimeters. Now what I love about Can Va is like Adobe illustrator with training wheels. So a lot of the stuff that you learn and here is very similar to what is an adobe. Only it's a little bit more limited with can, but there's two versions you can purchase. One is the free one, and the other one is a monthly membership, which is 12 95. Act personally used both. It depends what you are designing for. I've had the personal account and then I went ahead and upgraded to the premium account so that I have more tools, such as being able to download a transparent background. You don't have a limited number of pages that you can download, and you get a little bit more options when it comes to choosing images and graphics and stuff. So I would definitely do the free one. If you find you want a little bit more options, you can go ahead and upgrade to the 12 95 and you get the first month for free. Here you can type in keywords that you want to design. Four. They have just a huge list of things that you can do. Or if you want to do something super quick, you can go ahead and pick one the templates that they have. So what I'm going to go ahead and do is I'm going Teoh, click a Facebook post. It gives us a whole bunch of different templates that you can choose from, and some of them are free. And then some of them, though how little dollar sign. I can't find one right now, like that one you'll have to pay for, But the free ones are clearly marked, and I'm going to go ahead and pick this one, and when you like the template, it automatically sizes it to your design area. That is what the templates tab is for. There's also elements tabs, where you can search for photos and graphics. You can also go ahead and search anything you want here. So say, if I want a picture of a cake. Since I'm doing a charity bake sale, it'll search for cake and then I can apply parameters such as photos or graphics. I want to go ahead and do photo since us what I wanted, and I'm going to go ahead and use this cake photo. So what I really like about candidates that you can drag and drop stuff in. So that's one option you can dio. They also have a whole lot of texts. They have heading subheading a little bit of body. If you want to go ahead and use that instead of using their templates, they have just plain backgrounds you can use, and you can also upload your own images. Well, that's just this kind of small menu over here. And then if we look over here and click on the image or the text or anything. It pops up a little menu. They pre made this text for us or the spot for us. We could highlight what you want to change, and you can change it to white. If you want this in a fun color as an accent color, you can change it. Teoh. It's a purple. There's various things that you can dio to make it custom and your own. So that's one option. You can also mess with space. Seeing the find could also change whether you want this in a group or not. So things are automatically grouped together. So if you want in tow, ungroomed pit and move around various elements, then the composition. You can say if you wanted that over here, but you wanted this lower down, and for the heck of it, we're going to rotate this 90 degrees. You can do that and then say, if you like this layout, you could highlight everything and then you can group it so that when you move it around, it will stay together. So that is one option you can dio and then you can also copy it to make a copy, and you can also delete it and you can delete the group and you can also position it to the top to the middle bottom left. However, however you want to position it and then you can also mess with the transparency, which is how see through something as you could make it very light. Or you could go ahead and make it the full about so that you can't see through it. And those are just a few things that you can do with in camera. You can also a copy of the page. If you want to create variations of the same design, you can delete the page by using the little trash can. And you could also add a new page. There is a lot of things that you can do with Canberra. What I suggest is that you just kind of play around with it. You can get lost in here for hours. Just looking around. This is the end of lecture to It was pretty short because I just wanted to give you guys a little idea of what you could do 4. Useful Resources: Hello, everybody. And welcome the structure is going to be short, but is going to be so helpful to you guys. So this lecture is about useful resource is that no one ever tells you about and I have created pdf for you to download with the links in the document. So we're just gonna go ahead and jump into this list. The first thing is called Camp a design school. As you've seen from the lecture we're going to be using Can va. They have their own design school. And here you can learn so many different things about signing a resume, hard ideas or how to design a flyer without even being a designer. So they give you a whole bunch of different tutorials to follow and articles to read that could really help impact your design. The next useful resource I'm going to be showing you is called design seed. Zain Seed is a website and it's all about color palettes. And this comes into play when I talked about color theory and how it's important to know. But there so many resource is online that allow you to create amazing color palette. This is a fun Web site to design with you can look through various color palettes and also look by the color that you are running. So if you're wanting to do a design with this color and heads, they just give you so many options. And as you're exploring through here, these are the color codes that you can copy and paste into can vote to change the colors and to make your custom colors. So it's super easy to navigate from here to Canada when you find a color palette that you like. Another useful you resource that you can use is called fonts and use fonts and uses just a website all about fonts. And it's a really fun website to explore because you could see various designs and what type of funds that use within the design. So it's really fun. If you see one that you like, you click on it and they show you what fonts of the use I personally love. This website gives you some great ideas, and it just shows you what can be done with fonts are next. Resource is the n Va's designed resource is it's basically their list of design. Resource is that you can use. And they just have various things color, inspiration, image, inspiration, icons and the list goes on and on and on. So that is a another good resource with more Resource is in it. Finally, I just went ahead and put in some fund films on design related topics. I personally like these. I think all of them are on YouTube. If you want to search. Helvetica is basically what it is. It's about Helvetica and the various companies that use it. Stephen Frying The Gutenberg Press is an amazing documentary, and it's just basically all about the Gutenberg press and how Stephen Fry tried to recreate it. Typography and overlooked art is just about typography and how important it is. And Color Insight is a documentary on color. It's amazing. I hope you guys enjoy this list of useful Resource is. And don't forget to leave a review on this course. I really appreciate it, and please move on to the next lecture 5. Time To Brainstorm: Hello, everybody. And welcome to the next lecture. Now we're going to get into the fund stuff of designing. We're gonna start with brainstorming. So the first question you're going to ask yourself is, what size does your file need to be? And if it is a print, do you need a bleed? And one thing to remember is that if you need a believe, you need to go ahead and add 10.1 to 5 to your overall documents size. Once you figure out what size it needs to be, you're going to move on to a design question of who is your target audience. And that is basically who are you designing for? So you need to put their age. You can put their socioeconomic status, which is basically how much money do you think that they make and how that is going to affect your design. For question three, you need to figure out what information needs to be on a design. If it is for event, you'll need to have the name of the event, the location, what time it is if they need to r S v p where they can do that at and then when your kind of thinking about information, if you can go ahead and organize it by the most important, the least important. So that's incorporating hierarchy that we talked about in the previous lectures. So the final question you're going to be asking is what images or graphics are related to the contents of the design. So you're going to be thinking about what you're designing. So if you're going to design a poster for a bake sale, you're going to think about different images that are associate with the big sale so it could be eliminated. Could be cookies, and it could be cake. It could just be a whole bunch of various things. So you're gonna want to make a short list, and you're going to write down these images and then you'll go and you'll find them. After you brainstorm debate, you're going to print out the design checklist, though this is basically going through the list. Say, is your file set up correctly? Have you identified your target audience? Have you identified the information within your composition that you mean and is it scaled with hierarchy? So I've talked about this in previous lectures and we will continue to talk about this when we create a design and you're going to want to organizer and for May should from, most important, the least important. And you're gonna wanna have a vary in size. So the next item on this checklist is alignment. Have you used a grid? Have you lined objects in text correctly and have you created a dynamic design? I hope you guys do not feel overwhelmed with this information. This kind of comes when you're going into a design and we're going to be using this in the next lecture when we actually create a design. 6. Facebook Cover: Hello, everybody. And welcome back today, we're going to be designing a Facebook cover. If you take a look at our time to brainstorm sheet, you can see that I have already filled out information before we were designed. We're going to take a quick look at some of the steps, so I already know what size my file needs to be, what format and that I do not need to bleed. I have thought about my target audience, and I know that they're both men and women and their people who are interested in the gym memberships. I went ahead and filled in my information that is required to be on the design. And then I also went ahead and looked at what images or graphics are related to this content. And I decided waits, jump ropes or exercise equipment would be some good in the dream or group. Fitness would also be some good in Madrid to use. I went ahead and locked into Camba, and there's a few ways you can go about setting up your design. You can search for the Facebook cover the search engine. You can use your custom design and pay attention to what measurements you are using for this design. You're gonna want pixels. If you're doing a print, he will want inches, millimeters or centimeters, depending on what unit of measurement you use. You could also go down to create a design, and they have the face but cover all set up. I went ahead and set up my document. And this is the design we are going to be creating. You could also look through here and you can pick out a template that you like. But I just wanted to show how you can start from scratch, and then you can create a completed design. There is no right or wrong way to create a design. This is the way that I personally use. But as you design more and get used to canvass in your face, you're gonna find your own style. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to start off. I'm going to go to the Elements tab and I'm going to search for Jim. And then I know that I want photos instead of graphics. So I'm going to click on the photos tab and I'm going to search and look through here and I know that this is the image that I'm going to use. There are also other images that would be very interesting, like this. Wait one or that, or there's just so many that you can use. But when you are keeping in mind that you have image where you want a lot of text on there , you're going to need a fair amount of negative space. And while this image doesn't look like has a lot of negative space, you can manipulate it into working for your design. So I'm going to go ahead and drag and drop my image in there. And when I say keep in mind the negative space, I see some really good space right across the middle. So what I'm going to do is I am going to enlarge it now. Camp A has updated their website, and they have done a really good job about having everything being and large proportionately. So I'm going to go ahead and enlarge it and let's see I like this, but I don't personally like to include faces and my design. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't. I just sometimes think that they could be distracting so I'm going to go ahead and move this over a little bit more so that the bikes kind of act as the center or the road machines. I don't know what they are, are almost in the center, and I'm going to move that open hair and I'm going to stick with this layout. I'm gonna hit, done. And as we can see, it's a very dark looking photo, and if we went ahead and put the text on top of it, you're not going to be able to see the text. So one trick that I have learned over the years is that if you go ahead and search square and then you want to go to graphics and you put a solid color over the top of it, preferably white, because it is easier to be seen when you make it more transparent. And then, like I said, we're gonna mess with the transparency, which is also called capacity, and we're going to lower it down, and it just creates a problem. To go with 45. It creates a kind of blurry look over the top of the image, and it cuts down on the overall darkness of the photo. And this is a different look than if you were to mess with the actual settings of the photo . Messed with the contrast and the light in the shadows and everything. And this is honestly, quicker. I really like the way that's looking, and once we put the text on it, it's really going to pop now what I always like to do before I start my design is I will type out on the information in a word document so I could make sure everything is spelt correctly. And then I will create a second art board or second page, and I will go ahead and put the text in there so I could just copy and paste it. This will save you a whole bunch of time in case that you accidentally misspelled something . What I'm going to do is I'm going to go over to the text and I'm going to make sure I'm clicked on here on the page or art word that you were working with. I'm going to click. Add a heading now. Typography kind of comes into play. With this. You can always search Google for good fought pairings on canvas and you will have a whole bunch of different ideas for different pairings of fonts. So keeping that in mind, I know that when I look through here, I'm going Teoh, pick a font. I like League Spartan and then I'm going Teoh, stretch the box this way so that it will be all on one line and want to copy and paste that into my text box. So now that I have this, I'm going to enlarge it. Now when you enlarge stuff, You I don't want to go like this because it can make it Pixley looking. You want to get it as large as you want within the actual text size, I'm gonna go probably was 72 as you can see, it's on two lines. All you have to do is increase the width of your box and I'm going to scooch it now. One thing to keep in mind when you are doing a design is you want to look for natural grids within the composition or the picture in the image that you are using. And in here I can see the floor of the gym and that acts as a natural grid. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to line the bottom of my text with the line right here , and it doesn't have to be exact. You want to get a disk closest possible, and then you can use your arrows on your keyboard to fine tune it. But I can see that I don't like how far it's going over here on the right hand side. So I'm going Teoh, smush it down just a little bit so that it can be right where I want it. So overall, I'm linking the layout of my Tom's Jim. Now we're going to go ahead and add a little bit of subheading, and I like to make my subheading a different font. And one front that I really like is Roberto. So I'm going to go ahead and copy and paste my address in here. And one thing I do not like his house smushed it. It's so I'm going to decrease this overall size and then I'm going to go ahead and increase the letter spacey of my design until I get a good, good spacing that I like. I'm gonna go ahead and go with 1 32 Actually, I might go up to 1 38 There we go. I think that that provides enough spacing in between the letters where it does not look too condensed. I like the overall size of it. I'm going to go ahead and try to just eyeball it tow, line it with the edge of the tea and the edge of the M. So let's see. So I'm going to go ahead and try to align it with the edge of the tea and the edge of the M and see that's too big. Michael had increased spacing of, or so much straight 1 51 and then you're going to want to just get it to as close as you can. We're going to go back in fine tune the alignment, so I'm going to go ahead and add a little bit of body to my design, accidentally added it twice, and I'm going to keep consistent. You don't really want more than two or three finds. I always stick with two because then it just looks to hodge podgy and then change it to Roberto and then I'm going to go ahead and copy of my $10 a month and I'm going Teoh, make it smaller than my element here to create hierarchy, go down to maybe 14 and then you want to make it the same butter spacing. So why I have 1 51 here. I'm going to change this to 1 51 and I'm going to change the color to read, and since I've been using this color palette, it's automatically saves it. But if you were trying to find a color by eyeballing it, you can click on the little plus sign, and you can choose the color you want. Or if you were to have a color palette that you were using, you can go ahead and copy and paste it into the bottom right here. So what I'm going to do is my text boxes way too large. I'm going to try to best align it to the tea over here, just eyeballing it, and I'm going to copy it, and I'm going to line it the best over here that I'm going to put the phone number and and that is my design. And I can personally tell that it needs to be fine tuned cause it's not aligned correctly, so I'm going to go over to my elements, search for eight line and then I'm going to pop this line right here. I'm going to change it in tow, white, and I'm going to rotate it 90 degrees and this is going to act as a makeshift grid. I'm side and then I'm going to copy, and I'm going to wine it on the right hand side with the M. As you can see, my stuff isn't aligned quite right. It needs to be moved over here. It's too far on the right, and it's also too far on the right. So what I'm going to Dio is I'm going to take this. I'm going to scooch it over, and I can see that it needs to be a little bit smaller. So see, this is the point where you can decide if you want to make it smaller, or what I like to do is I'm going to put the spacing down a little bit and you'll have to change it down the low. But that will also help with getting it better lined. So let's see, I'm going to finally tune it and scooch it with my arrows on my keyboard. I'm going to make it 1 46 and that can go over. Ah, hair to the left. And that looks pretty good. One thing I did notice is that I did not get this quite a lying to the bottom of the tile. So that is aligned correctly and I'm going to go ahead. Oops. I clicked on the wrong one. I'm going to go ahead and aligned this to the bottom of it more, and then I'm going to move down here. And since I change the spacing of this line, I'm going to go ahead and change the spacey of He's down here and I'm going to align it left. And I'm also going to align this one right, change it to 1 45 and then I'm going to line it so that the eight is Oh, hind. With that white wine on the right, sometimes you have to click up to make sure that you are moving it. And then you can see that there is a faint, faint, faint Thank mine. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to line this a little bit lower to about right here, and then I'm going to match that on the left hand side. And when you have it aligned, it'll also give you that dotted line. So since I know that is a line with the bottom of here, I'm going to scoot over tow, line it with the left hand side of this white line, and I think that that looks pretty good. So I'm gonna go ahead and deletes these lines, and that is our new design. As a quick review, we created hierarchy by creating different sizes for the elements in the composition, realigned everything to a grid, keeping in mind. There's actually a natural grid in this design, and we had it allying correctly horizontally, and we also had it aligned correctly vertically, because everything is lying to the edge of the tea and the edge of the M. And there's contrast in this design through the use of the transparency of the whites rectangle and by adding an accent color for the information at the bottom. Now, when he went to download your design, you're going to hit the arrow, and you can either use P and G or J. Peg I personally find J. Peg is easier because it is a smaller file size, whereas sometimes if you try to upload a PNG, it'll take forever and then it'll fail just because it is too large. And then you're going to select what paid you want. And I'm going to select Page one and then you can go ahead and download it and then your design is done. I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial. It was a pretty simple tutorial. However. The next one is a little bit more complex and wanted you guys be able to have a basic knowledge before we move on to the next tutorial. So I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial. This one was fairly simple. The next tutorial is going to be about creating a flyer, and it's a little bit more complex, and we go ahead and move on to different design aspect so you can go ahead and go on to the next tutorial. 7. Flyer: Hello, everybody. And welcome back today we're going to be designing Flyer for a humane shelter bake sale. And this is design that we are going to be creating Before we get into the design, we're going to go over my brainstorming sheet for this flyer. I am going to make it eaten half by 11 and I chose no bleed needs to be in the format of pdf Now, the reason why I decided not to have a bleed on it was keeping in mind who I'm designing for. I decided not to have a bleed in this design because this is one be printed on their personal printer. So if you were to have a ble, you can size it down to eight by 10 and then you'd have to add the 0.1 to 5, and you could have it printed on a personal printer. But because I know that they don't have time to trim everything, I went ahead and said that they don't need to believe now. My target audience is men and women and people with pets in people who also want to give to charity and the information that was required to be on the design was the Humane Shelter. Big sale, their address. And they wanted to advertise treats for you and your friends because they were going to have treats available for purchase for your pet. And they wanted to make sure that they had the dates and that all proceeds go to humane shelter. And then I trying to get creative with what images and graphics are related to the content of this design and pretty much any pets, cookies, cakes, ice cream, anything that could be sold at a big sale. So we're going to go ahead and get into designing. Once you're in Canberra, you can use the custom dimensions to create your design. You neither use inches, millimeters or centimeters, depending on what unit of measurement you want to use. This is going to be 8.5 by 11. You could also search in here, or you can search for the flyer right here. I already went ahead and set up my design. In order to create this design, you're going to have to start with it aligned normally. So one of the first things that I did was I wanted to create something that was visually interesting. So instead of going with a square picture, I went with a serviceable. So I'm going to go over toe elements and then type in circle. And if you flip through here, they will have a circle picture frame that I'm going to go ahead and placed in there. Now, once you have you circle, you kind of west, center it in the page, and then you want to search for your graphic. Now, sometimes you have to get creative. When you are doing a design cause for this example, it is something that's a little bit unique. You want a bake sale, but you want it included with pets, and there are many options you can take when approaching this design. You can tie been dogs with ice cream. You could type in dog with treat. There's different options. There. You could type and bake sale their various options that you could choose. I went ahead and typed in dog with ice cream, and I found an image that I really liked, which was this one, and I'm going to go ahead and drag and drop it in there and what I liked about this image is that had a dog with the human treat in the human there. And it kind of solidified that idea of treats for you and your friend. Now, like I did with the previous tutorial, I went ahead and typed and Onley information in a word document. And then I put my information in here so I could just copy and paste it. Once again I decided to use ah specific thought that I liked. I liked the glacier RL indifference. I chose it because I wanted something that was a little bit heavier font. And then I also liked that it looked nice when it was shrunken down and the spacing was expanded. So for this I'm going to go ahead and add a heading and I won't take this and I will copy and paste it. And I wanted glee. Sheer indifference. I'm horrible at pronouncing names of things. So bear with me. If that is not the correct pronunciation, I'm going to go it, go ahead and use it, something that's fairly large. I'm going to make it bold so that it is one of the main information in my design. When I looked at my document I noticed that there was black. There was blue. There was pink grave by default. The text is black, and that doesn't look bad, But I really wanted it a dark navy color or a light ish navy color. And I thought that that complemented well, cause it's just kind of like darker shade of the light blue and added good contrast without it being too heavy. So I'm going to put that right here. And then I also want a little subheading. And then I went ahead and put treats for you and your friend underneath it. And then I went ahead and matched the same fonts, and it is also going to be a Navy when contemplating the hierarchy of the design. The date is a very important aspect, so I put the Humane shelter as the largest. And then I'm putting the date of the bake sale as the second largest element in the design because if you don't know when the date of the event is, there's no use for advertising. It's something to remember is that you can mess with the format of the dates. You don't always have to put it in hyphens or date of May 12 2019. You can put periods in between them. You could hyphens. You can put three much anything you like, But I always like to create something with contrast that grabs people's attention. I'm going to go ahead and but that date in there, make sure it's the same font, and I'm going to make it fairly large going to say maybe 88 going to put it in bold And then I really wanted this to be highlighted, so I'm going to make it a pink color. The next element I'm going to do is the Bake sale, and I'm going to add a subheading, and I'm going to go ahead and type in big stale 0.2 bold it and I will change it to the same font and could go even larger. You are just doing a general way out. We will go back and we will find Tune this layout, and I also want this to be in navy so that there's consistency within my design. I went ahead and made the address fairly small because when you think about a big sale, it's a town event, and most people know where the humane shelter is and where bake sale is going to be happening. So it's not the most important information. And then finally, I'm going to add all proceeds go to animal shelter at the very bottom because it's not the most important information. It's just a tiny detail would to change that to Navy and I will make even smaller. So as you can see, we've got a pretty good design going on here. We just need to find Tune. It's and like we did in the previous tutorial, I'm going to search for a line and I'm going to change it to something bright like purple, where I can clearly see it. I'm going to rotate it 90 degrees, copy and paste it when you are choosing to align something. You wanted the line center for this design so that it's equal on each side. I'm going to do it, Teoh beginning of the M and the beginning of the E so that there's two letters on each side going to extend that. And now we've got our general grid that we wanna line it, too. I can see that this whole section can move up and this can also move up. Now, this whole treats for you and your friend. I'm going to increase the water spacing so that it fills out the whole area. So take a candor. It can go more way to take it. I'm going to skip on scoop net. See, that is way too big. I'm gonna go to see what 1 38 looks like. And this looks pretty good. I'm going. Teoh, decrease it. Maybe 2132. Try 1 28 That looks pretty good. Now when we are looking at this image, a good way into place it within the composition is to see where it interacts with letters. What I like to dio is I like to align it so that it fills in some of the Lauder's. So I can tell it's that feeling in all the A or the age. And it needs to be enlarged a little bit more because there's a natural curve that occurs with the S and the A. And that's also why I chose a circle is because I wanted it. Teoh match the natural curves that occurred in the designs. I'm going to go ahead and move it down a bit, and I believe that it can be shrunk down. This is just fine tuning it. So when I'm going to do here is I'm going to go ahead and move it all the way up to the top of the H. And I'm going to a little bit over so that it looks like it's touching the corner of the M . And it could be skilled down a hair so that it cuts to the corner of the T. And this is just nit picking it and fine tuning it. And then I went ahead and enlarged this just a bit, so it gives me a little bit more negative space. And then I'm going to go ahead and scooch the style because I don't like how you can't see the your what? The dog's nose. So I take it we're going to scooch it down a bit. Scooch it to the left. This is just fine tuning where the image sits and it takes some time. But don't obsess over it. So I'm liking the way it said. It looks like it is cutting through the M, and it comes almost to the corner of the team. So I'm going to go ahead and realigned my stuff. Sometimes things get shifted around when you're doing the alignment, and then I'm going to go ahead and increase the size of this in the spacing of this and one trace 60 and see how it looks. So run. Try 58. Not quite right, Trey? 55 almost there. This is what a lot of design is. Its just going back and revising it. So that looks pretty darn good. And I am going to continue on and increase the spacing of each one, because to me it just looks too crowded and we're gonna go to 62. I never going to do the same thing, this one. And the spacing doesn't always have to be the same for this design. Since we are rotating in the most important thing is that you have everything aligned, and then finally, I'm going to go to this one. I'm going to move it up, and it actually needs to go down and size. I put it at 14. I'm gonna see what it looks like when I increased the letter spacing, and I like the way that it looks and it could almost go down. Just a hair. Want to trade at 1 20? Okay, that looks pretty good. I like the way the composition is looking. When I am looking at the five, I see a little gap right here, a little white gap between the image and the five. So I'm just going to move that up a bit, like the way it cuts the five right here on the edge and it goes through the night. Then I'm going to actually highlight everything underneath here, and I'm going to move it up. Let's try that again. I'm going to highlight everything, and then I'm going to move it up in the design. And then I feel like this can scooch up a little bit. There's there's a little bit of a gap there. I feel like that spacey and looks good, but this design looks nice right now, but stop very dynamic. Now, one way you can create a dynamic design is by creating levels of transparency. As you can see from the design down here, each sentence has got a different level transparency. So what I'm going to do here is I'm going to go over to this little more section and I'm going to go to the transparency and I'm going to do 80. I like to do it on levels of 20 so that there's a difference between each wine of text. But it's also unified because you have a consistent level that you dropped the transparency down by. So that was 80. This one should be 60. This next level should be 40 and this next level should be 20. Now. By doing this, it not only creates a dynamic design, but it also changes the coloring of the font. And I'm going to go ahead and get rid of these lines. And this is what our design looks like right now. I love it is very dynamic. It's eye catching, but we can take this one step further. And what you are going to want to dio is if you are ever rotating anything, you're going to want to make a copy of your design, which you can hit Copy page right up here and it creates a coffee of your design. Always wanna have an original to go back to and to make tweaks. So you're gonna highlight everything and that you're going to groove it. And by grouping everything, it makes it one element so that when you rotate it, it'll rotates and enlarge the image or decrease the size of the image proportionately so you can go ahead and rotate it. And when you rotate it, you see oh, I really do need to either moving around or decrease the size of the image. What I'm going to do is I'm going to decrease the size, and you want to keep in mind that when you print it out, there is going to be that border where the printer does in print. So it's very similar to the bleed. You saw him. Make sure you are within that section, and once you are done with that, you're going to go ahead and download it. I'm going to do as a PdF standard print, and I just want my first page to be printed, and I'm going to go ahead and download it. And once it's downloaded, this is what your final design will look like. And you can see by just rotating the image. It gives it a nice dynamic aspect to your design. It is one of the easiest tricks that you can use to create a dynamic design. Now, just to go over this design, I can see that there is hierarchy. This is the largest element. This is the second largest 3rd 4th kind of fifth and then the smallest. You can see that there is hierarchy within the design. There is nice heavyweight towards the bombs, so kind of weights down the bottom of the design. And there's a use of contrast in colors which help make the design pop. I hope you guys really like this tutorial. I've got one more tutorial show you, And this is just kind of some fun things that you can do with in camera so you can go ahead and move on to the next tutorial. 8. Youtube Channel Art: Hello, everybody. And welcome to the last tutorial over this tutorial. I want to do something a little fun. And I also wanted to show how you could design something without having to use the design checklist or thinking about what criteria needs to go into your design. A lot of questions I have been getting lately is about how to create YouTube channel arts, and I thought I'd show you guys how to do that on camera. Campbell makes it super simple for you to great not only your own YouTube channel, but you're you to thumbnail, though I'm just going to show you guys how to do the YouTube channel art today and what you're going to do either search for it up here or they also have it right down here in this bar. So I'm going to go ahead and click on the YouTube Channel Art and there are many options that you can use to create channel art. For example, they have them separated into different categories. If you have a music YouTube channel, beauty travel make up and then they just have all kinds of results. So I'm going to go ahead and search gaming and see what kind templates it gives me. So for this category gives you a whole bunch of different type of gaming templates. I want to show you how you can customize your own template. And I kind of like the design of this one games for life. What I'm going to do is I'm going to copy the page and I'm going to deconstruct this so that I can see what elements aren't within the page. So I can see that the text is one element. This. I'm going to go ahead and add a new page So the text is one element. I'm going to put that down here. This background right here is its own element. The speckles are its own element, and the triangles are its own elements, so we can see when we deconstruct it. It's got a solid background, two triangles and a speckled overlay. So let's say for the heck of it, I don't like green. I'm going to change the color to purple, and then I'm going to take this purple, and I'm going to make it a little bit lighter. And then I'm going. Teoh, go ahead with that back on the corner and change that to purple, a swell so so far we can see that I customized this to the colors that I wanted. So there's the original. Now I've customized it a bit, so I'm going to go ahead and of this rectangle on top and center. It's and I'm liking the way it looks. So far, however, I see that I don't particularly like the spot. Nothing wrong with it. But this is something that I'm not really liking. We can see that this whole element, you move it and it acts like one elements. If we go into, the more we can ungroomed fit is to separate elements. So for this, I'm going to change the font, and I'm going to change it to something else, cause I'm just not loving it. Let's find one. I'm a lot of this is what appeals to you ID like this black ops one. So I'm going to go ahead and change it, and I'm going to say Tim's gaming. But once again, I don't like that color, so I'm going to change it to the lighter purple that I'm going to pick a new a new video every Tuesday. There you go. As you can see, that's one way that you can really customize a pre composed template. So there is theory journal, and there is our our version. What you're going to want to do is go ahead and download as a PNG, and then I want page to, and that is what my new YouTube general art looks like. And you might have to adjust this once you upload to you, too, because they have cut off areas. But I'm I'm 99% sure that this will fit perfectly because typically it's like 1/3 of the screen this way and then, for like, kind of standard death, it goes down to the edge, and this is honestly personal preference. It's got my fictional gaming channel, and then it says when I have a new video. So I hope you guys enjoyed this tutorial. I just want to show you something super simple that you could do that was more fun, that having to think about my target audience and is there higher IQ and within this you can see that there is honestly hierarchy. This is larger than your subheading off the stuff will come to you the more you practice designing. I hope you guys really enjoyed this course. If you liked it, please leave a review. It really helps me. And I hope you enjoyed this course. Thank you for following along. 9. Summary: Hello. I am so excited that you finish this course today and congratulations to making it to the very end. By now you have learned how to create a dynamic design through the use of color hierarchy and finding your target audience. While this course may have seemed difficult at times, I am so proud of you that you made it till the end. Don't forget to leave a review and keep your eye out on future courses on design.
