1. Introduction | Nice meeting you!: What's up? Are you already familiar with DJ, whether you're an experienced DJ or just starting now, my course offers a fresh perspective focusing on DG scratching as a musical instrument. By mastering DG scratching, you open doors to various job opportunities. From collaborating with truck producers, singers and rappers, to creating music for TV or business advertising, and even being a live scratcher in a band. What if you only have a dig controller and the no turntables? No problem. I'll teach you the art of G scratching using only dig controller, ensuring you don't miss any crucial points. All right. By the way, my name is G Tomu, originally from Tokyo, Japan and currently residing in Singapore. My DG journey study in New York City where I opened up the stages for renowned artists like the black adopt Rapa Como and achieve the first run up position in DMC New York final 2005. Returning to Japan, I became the scratcher for a hip hop band, winning the first Japan Championship for Red Bull Sound class in 2008. Since 2011, I've been in Singapore performing for large crowds of over 5,000 and founding a DG school called Showing G Love, instructing over 2000 students physically. While I began teaching with turntables, I have noticed the rising popularity of G Controllers globally. Hence, my new course focuses exclusively on G scratching the G controller using Pioneer Digit record of box software. Because you can virtually visualize how I scratch. Now it goes like this, check it out, don't worry if you use a different software. The principles apply universally curious about where to find the scratching tools. Sounds No problem. I've got you covered. I will provide free MPC data with various scratching tools for you as a supplemental materials to explore and enhance your skills. Join me on this exciting journey into the world of scratching with a modern twist. Nice meeting you and thank you for watching. 2. Demo Performance: One. 3. rekordbox setting : What's up your this session is only for record box user, so if you're using other applications you may skip. All right, in this session let me show you the proper setting of record of box quickly. All right, so this is the default screen for the people who just installed the record box. Okay, so first of all right, this export mode here, okay, change the performance. Okay, now to ****. All right, so this funk is maybe you cannot hear the sound, but it's okay. All right. Okay, so this is called a vertical mode. First, maybe defaults to dec horizontal like this. It's up to you. Okay. Which you prefer. You just select either two deck horizontal or two deck vertical. All right. So for me, I prefer to deck vertical. All right. You can select the four decks. Okay. Four decks horizontal, vertical also. All right, but we go by two decks right now. Okay, So let's go back to two deck vertical. All right, then next, right? So you go to this one. Preferences or setting, right here, okay? Click on, So now you see the preferences view. Okay. Language English. It's okay. It doesn't matter whichever language you prefer, you just select, okay. From here, right? So now I go by English. Okay. Then this font sites, okay. Other parts is very small, okay? Maybe you can make it a bit bigger. It's okay. It's up to this one, okay? Yeah. All right. Then scroll down this part to mode for me, customized. Okay. Then change to part to display, then the two tips, right? Show two tips. Okay. So this one tick, it's up to you. You can remain tick also. Okay? All right. The wave form, okay? This one now blue. I changed to RGB, red, green, blue. You can select three band also. Okay? It's up to you also. For me, I prefer RGB. All right, then this key display format, okay. So default is a classic. I changed to alphanumeric, This means the key shows like 1122, something like this. Classic mode, it's like minor, major, something like this. Okay, for DJ, I think alphanumeric, it's easier to understand. Okay, there also hot que here, DJ. I changed to Rafa. Just follow me. All right. Next is okay, go to the control order now. De menu, scroll down. Then here, hot que during the pulse get, the playback is applied. This one just mixer. Okay, This one cross pater curve. Okay. This one is like this now, but you just make it to, to the right. Which means you can cut the crosspater quickly, so no more volume controlling from the cross patter. This one immediately, you can cut the sounds by crossater. All right, so that's all for now. Thank you very much. Piece out. 4. What is the NO.1 mistake by DJ scratch beginners?: What's up, this G Tmu. All right, so let's get started now. First of all, how do you think what a number one mistake Gs tend to make when they first practice scratching? The answer is, many people don't follow the bits, just follow on rhythms. You know what I'm saying? Before moving onto a Ell scratching system, I help you improve your fits and rhythms sense with using G controller Here. If you have already enrolled in my course, please choose the following MPC data from free sample kit folder in supplemental materials. One, kick, two, hit up to you. Which side to drop those for me. I put kick on the left, I hat on the right like this. Then just create a cue point at the beginning of each sound, all right? Okay. Sounds beautiful. Now, if you are asked, what is a bit, a bit, okay? Just simple, then, what are the bits? Now, let me play the bits. As you see, bits must be played constantly, regularly. Now, what are rhythms? Rhythms can be made by right hand. It's like this. Now you might be questioning, right hand is also the same. Yes, then how about this? Rhythms can be changed in different patterns. How about this? I know this is a little bit difficult now. In this case, you can try with slow bits like this. You can use your fingers hitting the table just for practice. Also, what you have to do is to keep repeating the same patterns until you catch by muscle memory. Muscle memory. All right. This is repeating the same patterns over and over again is also applied to scratching practice. If you can constantly make it for forwards, it's already fantastic. Oh, by the way, if you're interested in enrollment in my course, you will get the free MPC data for your scratching and this rhythm and its practice tools. All right, for next session onwards. Finally, you will start grabbing how to scratch it without missing out any essential points. That's all for today. Piece out. 5. Baby Scratch - Most essential 3 fundamental patterns.: What's up your This is digit to move right here. So I think those who are watching this video have already enrolled in my course. Thank you very much and nice meeting you again. All right. All right, so let's get started. Scratching, I think you already downloaded the supplemental materials. Please choose scratch tools one and a barrel break beats from the folder. Okay, in my case, I put scratch to one on the left, beats on the right. For the scratching tools one side, please make a cue point. This sound, this sound is the most frequently used for scratch practice and it's generally called a sound. Then when you play, you can say like a forward, backward. This scratch is called a baby scratch. Most of the scratching is mainly consist of the combination of this pattern. Now let me show you basic three different rhythmical patterns of a baby scratch using this A Sound All right, check it out. Scratch, You'll stop and use your head. Stop. Use your head. After you catch those patterns, why don't you try combining. It's like this, he. All right? So even if you know how to do right, it doesn't mean sometimes you are catching up with the bit. So you have to keep repeating, Repeating the practicing until you really catch the momentum of the scratch. Sound All right guys, please keep practicing. Bye for now, pi out. 6. Cut the sound by a cross fader.: What's up your G? Tell me right here. All right. In this session I will show you how and which timing to use a cross fader. When you see professional DJs scratching on Youtube or El performance, you realize they're always using cross faders, right? Like this, like this, all right? Okay, so some people also asked me what the purpose of moving the cross fatter so fast. So the answer is by using a cross fatter, you can cut the sound. So it's like this, Check it out. Then you can start practicing based on the three foundation scratching patterns which you have learned in the previous session. A baby scratch part. All right, let's do some revision now based on this exact same pattern. I will add on cross batter, check it out, you stop and use your head. So this one also, you have to keep repeating, practicing, practicing, practicing over and over again until you really catch the exact correct patterns. Okay? That's all for today. All right. Thank you very much, O. 7. Scribble on the BEATS!: What's up your digital right here. All right. So in this session, you will step into the level two of a scratching scale, which is called a scribble. From my experience, this is very useful not only for the freestyle scratching but also G mixing transition tool. Anyway, let's get started starting your head. Okay. Now let's try combining it with the baby scratching your head first muscle. People tend to stiffen up your arm muscle like this. Okay, my adervise here. Relax your muscle and scratch if you still cannot make a clean sound. No worries. Also, here's another way of practicing. Just slow down your current BPM. Alright? So let's say BPM 65. Then try starting with slower BPM. You'll start use your head. Once you get used to it, just increase by every five VP, for example. So now 70 here, use your head. All right, 75 here, you use, then try the original BPM. Once you get used to it, you can try, let's say like 128, whatever. It might be a little bit difficult at first, but it's quite fun, All right? All right, that's all for this session. 8. Chop the AHHHH!: What's good you told me right here. All right, so in this session you will learn something similar to what you got in the previous video about cutting. Okay, cutting the sound with using the crosspter. All right, so just quick revision. Cutting in degen. In the process of using crosspater to switch a sound on and off, it's called a chop First you can start with a simple pattern like what you watched just now. Then you can try to arrange the different rhythmical patterns like this. Check it out, you start your head. Also you can try some syncopatient sound like this. Check it out and use your head. All right, that's all for today. Thank you so. 9. Let's CHIRP like a bird!: What's up you Tom me right here in this video. Let me share with you one of my most favorite scratching. It's called the char part of the charplright. Okay. All right. So just check there by demo. First, stop running and use your head. Same as usual. I use stretch to one on the left, ball break beats one on the right first. The important part is cross feder controlling is different from last time. We call this cross feder position. Okay? Like this one is fader and open fader. Okay, If you start from the closed no sound even if you play something. But for char, you need to start from open the fader. Like this, basic scratching on the jugo wheel side is the same. Then you control the cross speeder. Like this, you can start practicing with beads at first until you can make a sound like a border chopping like this. Check it out. Once you get the correct sound, try with the beat, you'll stop and use your head. If you catch, just try combining with double faster rhythms like this. You'll stop and use your head. The next advanced level is going to be like this. You'll stop trying and use your hand. Sounds like more syncopation rhythms, right? All right, that's all for this session. Bye for now out. 10. Combo with Chop, Chirp, and Scribble Scratch!: What's up? Your con digit right here. Hope you guys have been enjoying my course so far. If you enjoy, please sum up. Okay, in this video, I will show you how to combine the skills such as chop, chirp, and scribble. Making the combination with digital skills is considered as a very good digital radio actually. All right? Okay, So please be confident and proud of yourself, all right? Okay. So let's get started. You'll stop sting and use your head, okay? This is just one example. Let me try another combination pattern right here. Check it out. You'll stop and use your head. Of course, you can arrange it by yourself. All right? This is just examples. All right, that's all for a decision. 11. Scratching with a transformer effect.: What's up Your con G told me right here. All right, So in this session I will teach you a scratching style which influenced me at first when I started teaching back in 1990s. All right, when I saw this scratching, I was like, wow, so damn cool. You know what I mean? So this scratching is called a transformer. How does this sound like? Check it out. You stop scratching and use your head first scratching side. I follow the basic pattern which you have learned previously, this one. Then for transformer scratching, you add on cutting roster continuously like this. Now let's play with the pit stop running and use your head. All right, how about this pattern you lastly, advance and transformer scratching can be like this. Just for your reflex, check it out. All right, that's it for decision. Bye for now is out. 12. Word Scratching - Like This!: What's up your digital move right here. All right. So far you have been using only one sound in a way, right? Just a sound, right? So if you feel a bit bored and want to change your feel, you may use this one, okay? Pre. How do you hear this sound? Actually, this is fresh. Fresh. Okay. You'll stop and use your head. It can be used as the same way as a sound. Also because N is longer and easier to practice, freestyle scratching. Okay. Anyway, in this video, I will show you word of scratching. Word of scratching. What is it? Right? Yes. Yeah, you can speak instead of your actual voices. Okay, let's get it started. First, create a cue point. Just beginning, or it sounds like this. Like this, Like this, right? This means you play two nodes which are like this. You can also create a eye point after this sound. Yes, this, right? It's up to you, whichever you want to use here. The difference between water scratching and the previous session using, you need to make word moving two times. For example, this, this, this the advice is you must release a jog wheel and immediately hold. Then again release and back. Then you can make some combination patterns with the baby scratching by then you can try cutting the cross spader with the same pattern. You stop and use your head by black at first. Moving for two times is slightly confusing, but do not give up. All right, just keep practicing. That's all for this session, Pi out. 13. Word Scratching with a transformer effect.: Are you guys doing it right here? Okay, in this session, I will show you how to combine water scratching with the transformer. So let's get study from basic word scratching. You stop and use your head time. Black, black type B. Then if I transformer, it goes like this. You stop frying. Use your head important parties, you have to control the jugo wheel with releasing, not keep attaching, otherwise you don't speak the words. All right, then on the pos part, you may change the pattern also. That'll be nicer, okay? All right, that's all for this session. All right, Okay out. 14. 1 Click FLARE Scratching: What's up your G to move right here? Okay, from this session onwards, you will step into the little bit higher level. All right, Today's topic is flare. Scratching her doesn't mean burning. Okay. A DG called G Lare invented this kind of scratch. Okay. Anyway, just check how it goes like first. All right. Check it out. As you saw there are two different songs, right? So first 11 click for the flare. When you move forward, one click, okay. The other one is one click back flare, when you pull back backward, then click one. You can consider to try both forward and back. Let me try one more time. Important point here is used with open the fader. In this case, even if you click one time, you can hear three sounds. This open the fader style is called New School scratching, okay? On the other hand, if you start by closed fader, one click is one. Sound. You know, starting from the closed fader, it's called old school scratching. Basically, scratches are fully utilizing all and new school styles. Now you can start practicing from the longer note, like this one click for the flare. All right? So middle note. Okay. Short note. Then you can try both forward in a back Pbo like this. Longer, not stop. Use your head. Middle starting. Use your head. Actually, this flare scratch was one of the most difficult styles for me to acquire when I first practiced. So my advice is that you tried to use your wrist fingers Okay. Like this. Okay. Let's try one more time. He All right. That's all for this session. Thank you. 15. 2 Clicks FLARE Scratching: What's good? Did you tell me right here? All right, so in the previous session you learned one click play, a scratch, right? Okay, so in this session. In this session, let's try two clicks. Two clicks. Two clicks, alright. Okay. All right, so let me start off from four other versions with a long no, Check it out. All right, now backward the version, stop and use your head. Then once you catch, try other notes. Let's say do use your head. So how is it? I totally understand that it is difficult, but no rush. Okay? If you get stuck, try going back to one click clear. All right? Like I mentioned the last time, don't use the fingers. Use the wrist. Okay? This is a tips. All right. So try to click writing. Okay. All right you. That's all for today all. 16. Tear Scratching: What's up your digit to me? Right here, I think you have been learning digit scratching with controlling the wheel, only for it in the back. Right. In this session, I will teach you how to create more patterns on wheel side. It's called tear scratching. Of course, you can combine with the cross patter. Okay. But now today it's more like just using the one hand jog wheel side. All right. More actions on it, right? So let me show you the slow version work we then if you're at the gross fad like this, check it out walking. All right guys, that's it for this session. 17. Crab but you cannot eat!: What's up your digit right here. All right. So in this session, we'll learn how to use more than two fingers. When you scratch, one is called a crav scratch. Crab, okay? Crab scratch is used by three fingers as if your fingers look like a crav legs. Okay? So anyway, let me try, take it out, stretch, use your head. Its logic is quite simple, but at first, it's slightly difficult to make a clear sound. So please keep trying, practicing, okay? All right, that's all for this session out. 18. No Fader Scratching + Secret technique only for DJ controllers or CDJs!: Greetings G to me. Right here. Okay, so this video marks the final lesson in my scratching course. While there are various scratching skills, mastering the ones you've learned so far enables you to explore G live opportunities, collaborate with music producers, singers, rappers, and even become a live scratcher in a band. Today's focus is on the captivating No Fader scratch. If you have a grasped the flare scratching concepts, this rehsiical technique is quite similar but excludes the cross fader. Witness how this no fader scratching enhances your live performance. Visually check it out. Wow, lastly I will unveil a technique impossible on turntables. All right? This one is only for DJ DJ controllers on no turntables. All right. So look for the, check it out you and use your head. All right. Thank you for staying with me. If you want to talk to me directly, follow my Instagram. So I really hope to see you guys soon. So. 19. Outro: What's up, you tell me right here. All right. So, I hope you guys enjoy my scratching lectures. Now, let me talk about myself a little bit. The reason I ventured into teaching was my desire to master professional scratching. Back in the 1990s, DG schools, Youtube and online courses were nonexistent. Right? Tutor scratching, I purchased DG competition videos and repeatedly pulls, rewound the videotape to study each contestant scratching technique. Understanding even the basic sounds of baby scratching took some time. A humorous journey. Indeed, right now, my course is accessible at your convenience anytime. Therefore, I encourage you not up, especially if you're struggling in the beginning. Mastering scratching requires a consistent repetition. In conclusion, thank you very much for accompanying me on this journey. Please out.
