1. Introduction: Hello, My name is Olga. I'm a crochet designer and a doll maker. I made dolls for sale. I designed my own crochet patterns and I share video tutorials on YouTube and Instagram. In the class, we will crochet a cute flower and we will use the most important stitches in the process, you then will use this skills to easily understand any crochet patterns and create your own designs the class is great for any person if you just need a new hobby to relax. Or if you would like to start making something beautiful for sale. Because you can use these skills to follow the patterns of other persons. Or you can make your own designs. You shouldn't know how to crochet. My class is for beginners. You will learn how to choose the suitable crochet hook for your yarn. I will show you how to combine several flowers and make some decorations. For example, a bracelet. And I will give you some ideas on what else you can make with them. Crocheting is good for our mental health. It works as meditation. It can help you with stress anxiety or even depression. The repetition of stitches simulates the production of serotonin and boosts your mood. By the end of the class, you will be able to make cute handmade accessories for yourself and your family. Maybe you will want to make your own designs and even open your own shop of handmade gifts. All you need is a ball of yarn of your favourite color and the suitable crochet hook to let the magic in. So see you in the class. 2. About the Class Project: In that class, we will crochet a cute flower and we will learn the most important crochet stitches, materials that you need A very, very simple, a ball of yarn of your favourite color and a suitable crochet hook In the project section, you can post any step of your process, starting from the yarn and hook that you choose to the finished result. We will learn how to choose the suitable crochet hook for your yarn, reading the label of your yarn. If you don't know how to start, I will show you, first we will learn how to make a chain stitch. They I will show you how to make a circle joining the first chain stitch with the last chain stitch making the first round of the petals of our flower. In the second round of the petals, we will learn three new stitches. Single crochet stitch, half double crochet stitch, and double crochet. I use US terminology, but also there is another terminology, UK, I will show you what the difference is. We will practice a little and to finish the flower. I will show you how to combine several flowers without cutting the yarn. And we will make a bracelet. And I will give you some ideas on what else you can make with the flowers. So let's start. 3. How to Choose the Right Hook for Your Yarn: Let's read the label or your yarn. So you have bought some yarn. How to know, which hook should you choose? Let's look at the label of the yarn. Look for icons of hook or needles. Near that icons, you can find suitable sizes of hook and needles for this yarn. Yarn of any brand should have this information. Some brands indicate metric crochet hook sizes. And also lettered hooks sizes that usually are used in USA. For example, here I have only needle icon. That means that you should use the same number for needles and for hook. I choose this yarn for my project. Let's look at the label. I see a 3.5 millimeters and also I see lettered hook size G, every hook should have its size on the handle. Some brands put both sizes metric and lettered on the handle of the hook. In the future, with more practice, you can play with the sizes of hooks. You will have different results with the same yarn but different hooks size. So I recommend you to try, for example, for this project, I want to use the hook a little bit smaller so my stitches will be tighter. In the project section, you can post photos of your yarn. I would like to see which color you choose for your flowers. In the discussion section, you can ask me anything about yarn and hooks. And now let's start to work. 4. Let’s Make Our Petals: Chain Stitch and Slip Stitch.: Now we will start to work. Take the end of the yarn this way, leaving a tale about three or four centimeters, put the hook under the yarn, turn the hook counterclockwise, yarn over the hook, pull it through the loop on the hook. Now, tighten the knot. It is called slip knot. Now we are ready to start making our stitches, we don't touch this tail. Then, I will show you how you can hide it into this stiches, let's make a chain stitch. yarn over the hook, pull it through the loop on the hook, but do not tighten it. Let's repeat yarn over, pull it through the loop on the hook. And one more time. We have made three chains stitches. Now let's join the first and the last chain. to make a little circle, insert the hook into the first chain, grab the yarn and pull it through the chain, and then through the loop on the hook. Let's practice our skills. Let's make five chains stitches 12345. Now, let's make a slip stitch in the center of our little circle. It is ready. Now we will repeat this combination of stitches four times more. Five chains stitches. And the sleep stitch in the center of the circle. One more time. Five chains stitches. And the slip stitch in the center of the circle. Five chains stitches. And in the center of the circle, we make a slip stitch. Now we have four tiny petals. And the last one, we just have finished first round of our flower and before starting the next round, lets me talk about the difference in US crochet terminology and UK crochet terminology. 5. US terms VS UK terms: What is the difference between US terms and UK terms? It can be very confusing, especially if you are just starting. In my own patterns. I always indicate that I use US terms. The difference is just in the names and abbreviations of the stitches. In US term, we have single crochet stitch and the same stitch in UK pattern will be called double crochet stitch, in US pattern, we also have double crochet stitch, but this stitch in UK terms will be called treble crochet stitch. And another stitch that we will use in our project, half double crochet stitch in US terms, in UK terms, it will be called half treble crochet stitch You can find the link to download. This table in a PDF file in the description of the class project. If you see a pattern and you don't know which terms are used in the pattern, you can use this tip, Look on the abbreviations, if you see, SC abbreviation, single crochet stitch, it is definitely Us pattern. Now let's keep learning. In the next video, we will learn three new crochet stitches, and we will finish our first flower. 6. Let’s Finish the Flower: The Most Important Crochet Stitches: Now we will work in the spaces under each group of five chains stitches, and I will show you how you can hide the starting thread into the stitches during the process. Just have it near the group of five chains stitches. Let's make a single crochet stitch. Insert the hook into the space under five chains. stitches, grab the yarn and pull it through the space. We have two loops on the hook, yarn over the hook and pull it through both loops on the hook, we have made one single crochet stitch. Let's make another one. Insert the hook, grab the yarn, yarn over, and pull it through both loops. We have two single crochets stitches. Now we will learn a half double crochet stitch, yarn over. Insert the hook under the space, grab the yarn and pull it. You have three loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull it through all three loops on the hook, it is ready. And finally, double crochet stitch, yarn over the hook. Insert the hook into the space under five chain stitches, grab the yarn and pull it. We have three loops on the hook. Yarn over the yarn through two first loops on the hook. Now we have two loops on the hook, yarn over again and pull the yarn through both loops on the hook, we have made a double crochet. Let's make two double crochet stitches more, yarn over. Insert the hook and grab the yarn, yarn over, pull the yarn through both loops, yarn over again, and pull the yarn through both loops. Let's repeat yarn over, insert the hook and grab the yarn. Yarn over again, pull the yarn through two loops on the hook, yarn over again and pull it through both loops on the hook. Now let's make half double crochet, teach yarn over, insert the hook and grab the yarn, yarn over and pull it through all the loops on the hook. Now you can stop hiding this thread. We will cut it soon. Now, let's finish our petal. Let's make two single crochets stitches. 12 and the last stitch of the petal is a slip stitch. Make it in the center of our little circle that we made in the start. Now we can cut this thread. Let's practice. Let's make the next petal, following the pattern on the screen. Make two single crochets stitches one to half double crochet. 3 Double crochet stitches. half double crochet. Two single crochets stitches. And to finish the petal, make a slip stitch in the center of the flower. Now you can pause the video and make three petals by your own, or you can repeat the video from the start If you need more practice, in the future, you can play with the numbers of these stitches, trying other combinations of the stitches to make another shapes, for example, a heart or a star. In the next video, I will show you how to make several flowers without cutting the yarn. 7. Crochet Several Flowers Without Cutting the Yarn: Here we have our flower. Now in the back part of your flower, make a slip stitch in the nearest stitch to your hook. If you want just one flower, you can stop here. Cut the yarn leaving a tail and hide the end. But I want to show you how you can make more flowers without cutting the yarn. And we will make a bracelet, make five chains stitches to have a space between two flowers. And now we will start to make another flower. Make three chain stitches, in the third chain stitch from the hook, make a sleep stitch. So we have that little circle. In the center of this little circle, we will start making our petals. You can follow the pattern on the screen, make five chain stitches. And the slip stitch in the center. Repeat this combination of the stitches four more times. Make the second round of your flower. If you need more practice, you can repeat the previous video. Make as many flowers as you want for your bracelet. I will make four, here I have my flowers now, I can try them on my wrist. Now adjust this loop, it shouldn't be too big, but you should be able to put it on the first flower when it is on your wrist. Try it on your wrist one more time before cutting the yarn. If you are happy with the result, you can cut the yarn leaving a long tail. Now make several knots to fix the loop. And let's hide the end of the thread. We don't need it anymore. You can use sewing needle, insert it into the threads of these stitches on the back part of the flower. Insert the end of the yarn in the needle and pull it through these stiches. Now make the same, but in the opposite direction. You can repeat this operation several times and then cut the yarn. And now you can try your bracelet on. In the last video, I will show you what else you can do with the flowers. 8. Final Thoughts and Ideas: We have learned a lot. Now you know how to choose the hook for your yarn. Now you are able to make the most important crotchet stitches: chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet stitch, half double crochet stitch and double crochet stitch. So you can make one flower and also you can make a chain with a lot of flowers. I will show you what you can do with the flowers. You can make accessories as bracelets, earrings, necklace, or even a ring. Also, you can use these flowers to make handmade greeting cards. Or you can use these flowers to decorate your clothes. Share your flowers. In the project section, I would like to see them. Let's make the project section full of flowers and colours. Thank you so much for crocheting with me.
