About This Class

A part of you thinks that you are not creative.

You feel like you’re too logical.

False.

If you think about it, creativity is ingrained.

No one taught you how to imagine.

It just happened.

Now we just need to reconnect back with that creativity.

One great way to reconnect with creativity is with the use of a creative writing journal.

There are different types of journaling out there.

But with the creative writing journal method, our main goal is to flex our imagination.

In this beginner’s class on creative writing journaling, you will learn:

  • The different types of journaling out there.
  • How to begin creative writing journaling
  • The value of a silly prompt.
  • Finding your writing rhythm.

Plus, you’ll be given a final project in the end where I give you a silly creative writing prompt to write an entry on.

Since this is a beginner’s class on the subject, you don’t need any prior knowledge of the field to understand the class.

If you are ready to reconnect back with your creativity, then I look forward to seeing you inside!

1. Introduction: Welcome to the Creative journaling for beginners class. My name is Armand jewelry, the founder of Vermont. He talks a media company which helps engineers and entrepreneurs improve their communication skills. One of the core soft skills of their money talks brand is creativity. And a lot of individuals, we have a limiting belief in regards to creativity. Some people are like, I'm also a logical person. I'm a problem solver. I'm not creative, artistic in nature. But I would argue that that's something that is incorrect. Because as little children, we were very creative. No one taught us how to imagine. Instead. We were born with this magnificent faculty. In this class. You're going to understand that one of the ways to reconnect back with your inner creativity is with words. More specifically, words done via journal link. In this class, you're going to learn about the different forms of journaling out there. The benefits of a creative writing journaling, along with a few ways to get shorted. And finally, in the end, you will be given a class project that will allow you to bring these prompts to life yourself if you're ready to reconnect back with their imagination, I look forward to seeing you inside. 2. Different Types of Journaling: There's a lot of different types of journaling out there. I'm going to talk about three of the most common ones. One is known as gratitude journal length. This is when you're going ahead and getting a lot of the things that you're grateful for and bringing it from the internal world to the external world. Because us as human beings, the brain often tends to look towards a negative. It's always focused on what we don't have. And this is why with a gratitude journal in practice, it becomes easier to bring the good stuff in the forefront of our mind. We don't just practice of focusing on the big ones and our life. Instead, with gratitude journaling, we're focusing on the tiny ones. The more that you focus on the tiny ones, the more debt focusing on the big ones just becomes auto-pilot. This is one form of journaling. Another form of journaling is known as a free-flow journaling. Where would this one? There's no rules. You can write, whatever is on your mind. This is typically a great strategy. If you're just starting off, you're one of those rebellious people that doesn't like rules. Or you have a lot of stuff in your mind. Let's just say you're going through a tough time at the moment and you don't want to speak to anyone else about it. Well, I'll pull up Microsoft document and just start writing whatever is on your mind and save it. Later on. You can come back and read it. And plenty of times you'll surprise yourself. You're gonna be like, Wait, I wrote that. Whoa, Let me read some more on this. Whoa, this is helping me bring a lot of self-awareness into my reality. This is a form of journaling. And the other form of journaling is what we're gonna be breaking down in this class is known as creative writing journaling. And this typically when we're given a prompt, where with free-flow journaling, there were no rules. With this journaling. There is a rule. We have a creative writing prompt that talks about different topics that we can write on. From there, we began writing the rest of the class. We're gonna be talking about creative writing journaling, and how to focus on that. 3. Benefits of Creative Journaling: For any type of journaling out there, we need to understand what's in it for me. Why am I going to spend time and my energy focusing on this type of journaling? Well, one of the benefits is already in the title. A creative writing journaling. Creative. It pays to be creative because when you think about it, those individuals that rise in any organization, whether it's a company or whether it's entrepreneurship. They have amazing ideas. A couple of years back, there was this survey that was done with a lot of CEOs asking them, what is the number one trait that they look for when hiring someone? And a staggering amount of them said, creativity, because the ability to generate and connect ideas as well is an asset. And what this creative writing journaling framework, you began to take your mind to the gym and you begin to exercise that form of creativity into your life. Another benefit is that it gets you into the creators mindset. Think about it like this. Look to your left. Look to your right. So many people are just over here consuming all the time. And once they're consuming all the time and they're not releasing it. It's very similar to a sponge that's taking in all this water, all this gunk, but it's never wringing it out. And when you do not wring out the sponge, aka the brain, what traditionally happens is that the brain begins to feel overwhelmed with this form of creative writing, journaling, a framework, or you get into the habit of creating. The third benefit is that a lot of times, the stuff that you create in your creative writing, journaling prompts you can use for other ways to build your brand. These entries can eventually turned into blogs, can turn into daily newsletters, can turn into threads or even tweets. So it's a habit that you're building that can eventually compound from there. So these are just a few of the benefits from creative writing, journaling. Or once you get started, you'll feel very good that you picked up this habit. 4. Prompt and Write: So we're going to keep it simple. There's two things that's required in order to begin this type of journaling. You need a prompt and you need to write. That is all. The first question is, where do you get the prompt? Well, you can go on Google and just type in creative writing prompts and plenty will be presented to you. You can go on a e-commerce shop and buy a creative writing prompts journal. You can hit up a few of your friends and be like, Hey, I think of some interesting prompts that you want me to write about and I'm going to do it. Or if you're feeling very creative, you can even assign the prompts to yourself. The next part is writing. You're just going to execute that. We're not going to overthink this. We're just going to begin writing. Now, since this is something that's creative in nature, there's different thoughts in regards to planning this out. I'm of the philosophy that you don't plan it out or you let your body be the compass on where you should go with your prompt. But I am aware that there are certain people who are like, I don't really like that. I'm more of a planner. So if you are someone like that, sure, you can outline your entry piece. Once you create the outline, then you can begin writing. But the main two components that are required is number one, the prompt, and number two, the attitude to write. 5. Silly Prompts: Let's talk about the prompts a little bit more. With prompts, we don't want something that's too logical in nature because that's safe. And here's an example of something that's too logical in nature. A talk about yourself. I mean, yeah, you could get creative with it. But let's be real. This is something that a lot of individuals are expecting. Here's something that is not safe. Talk about what you would do if you had wings for a day. And immediately, you may be like what? Wings. But that's not even physically possible. Bro, defies the laws of science. Good. Because the cilia that your prompt is, the more potential for creativity. Keep that in mind when you're over here. Thinking about which prompt you should choose in order to write. Do not go for the safe options. Go for the options that make you feel well. I don't know about that. But that, whoa, I don't know about that. Behind it is some curiosity. You feel curious in regards to this prompt because a part of you, the safe brain is like, I don't really know if you can do that men. But the ambitious mind is like, but we're going to try. Because if you can focus on these silly prompts, the stranger that it is to you, because that's subjective. What is strange for one person is normal for another person. The strange to you, the more that you're going to get out of the creative writing prompts journal. And the more that you're going to flex the mind, it's sort of like yoga for the mind. And the more that you begin writing, the more that you keep flexing that mine. Once you close the entropies, your mind is expanded and it becomes easier to reach elevated thought waves at well. 6. Build a Routine: How often should you do it? That's really up to you. Some individuals do creative writing prompts every single day. Some people do it once a week, some people do it once a month. The interval is really up to you. But here's some advice that I can give. One, try your best to pick something over time that you can stick wet. So whatever interval you choose, let's say after four months of experimenting, you realize that sundays are just beginning the morning with a cool little prompt entry is the way to go. Stick with it. This habit eventually begins to compound over time. The next thing that I would recommend is that over time, you begin reading back your old entries. A lot of the times you're going to make yourself laugh. You're gonna be like, I don't even recall a writing, something like that. But you know what? I'm a very creative fellow. And other times you're going to look back at your old entries and you're like, I really wished that I added this, this, this variable within this particular content piece. Great. Because with writing, you never get worse off. If you keep on practicing. You build more data to get better off. What other skills or do you know like that? Imagine if a football player comes up to you at age 60 and it's like, I'm getting back into a national football. You're gonna be like, dude, you're physically not up for it anymore. But with writing, if someone is 60 years old and he's like, I'm ready to publish another book, then. This is not something that is beyond the scope of imagination. This is something that is highly realistic in nature. So here's one more tip that I would give you in regards to reading your writing. The more of a catalog that you're beginning to build a go farther back. So let's say today is the day that you have been writing creative writing prompts for two years, rather than consuming your content that you wrote last week. I tried to consume the content that you wrote eight months ago, because that allows you to see how far you have come. Once you've seen how far you have come, you began to view that content piece from a more objective nature. Where if you're just consuming the content that you wrote, let's say a week ago. Your feelings are involved a little too much. It's more subjective, and we want it to be objective. Granted, in the beginning stages, you're not going to have too much of a body of work. So work with what you have. But just allow this to be motivation to build that body of work. So you can look back into the past and keep leveling up your writing skills. And the president. 7. Final Project: Okay, so now we're going to have some fun ourselves. We're going to be practicing on a writing prompt that I'm going to give you. And it's gonna be very silly. On purpose. Martians have just landed on planet Earth. They find you and they bring their army of people in your front door. Let's say 500 people, aka five-hundred Martians. And they ask you, Hey, we need guidance on how to live life on planet Earth. We need you to create a religion for us. What are you going to do? Go wherever that you feel the story will take you. You can plan this out, aka doing some outline, or you can avoid planning and began. So here's the prompt one more time and I'm going to add even more of a twist to it. So you have more fun. The alien army has found you there at your front door. They're asking you for a religion to help them navigate planet Earth. And I need you to do this. Make me laugh at least twice in your creative writing journal entry, I would recommend that you write this on Microsoft document. Once you are done with your piece, are gone and put it in the final project section right down below. I look forward to reading it and laughing throughout it.
