1. Session 3 Intro: this session will talk about preparing your sets and talk about the different scenarios music, genres, set, energy levels, four months and locations you may performance and some ways to help you do your homework beforehand. To adopt the settings. We then move on to our city J 2000 nexus to and introduce the concept will be jump and is useful technical and creative users. We then explore the sound color effects on the mixer, which will enable us toward layers of effects throughout this set and, of course, the nopal function To extend our focus on some areas where songs, I would then move on to record books into a quick review on how to export our playlist, fix our grades and phase meters and our cue points, and also how to reimport any changes. Don't first on the gear and then back onto a record books library that's making sure our music and any changes done tow them, are consistent everywhere
2. Using The BeatJump Options to Technically and Creatively: So the first feature we're going to see right here on our CD players is our Beat Jum section, right, and it's on both decks, and the B jump feature allows us to do exactly just that. Jump if you beats ahead of time, either by one beat, which is right here on the screen away so you don't even need the menu at the bottom, so you can always jump forward by one beat backwards by one beat. And then you can jump forwards or backwards by 24 eight or 16. And it's, ah, super handy of special in the beginning, especially the one beat if youse are slightly out on your count by one beat. So you either press it on the 32 or on the to, uh, when you're about to play your next song into your mix. You can quickly adjust the beat by one here instead of your stopping and waiting for the next audible cue to press one. So let's just hear first how this beat jumps sound like, so I'm jumping by one beat and it's almost seamless. I'm gonna do it one to be for one poor, and it's almost similar, but you can definitely hear the beat jump because it's just a short section of the song is just a single. When you go with two beats, it's a bit more inconspicuous, so you do it musically. Jump shouldn't be too horrible again, with one and two beats going backwards or forwards, tumbling back is a bit too short off a jump for eight and 16. Work beautifully. Well, so just amount a little bit. Somebody jumped forward when I jumped four beats. Paper beats jump again. So people beats a full. Beats beats. That's how you can quickly jump out open. Maybe a long break. And maybe the energy drops significantly for a really long time. And you don't want to be that, Ah, long break or if the beat section is quite repetitive and nothing is happening and it gives you the flat level of energy, you can quickly jumped by four or by a So I always move forwards and pay for beats forward again. Age, way goingto great back and jumped 60. Play 444 steam and play for eight AIDS, and you can quickly jump in and out off a break. You can also go back 16 before you can serve. Look this section if you want by, but I get to play eight beats or four. So very super handy 214 jumping out of Cuba. And the second for this creative purposes to jump either for eight or eight and 16 terribly . So let's say I missed my two points here. I could let me try and pretend that I missed my cue point and I did it on the one I need to move this forwards by one beaks and then I can line the faces on BPM. All right, so let me make another mistake again. 1267812 So out by a beat I don't need to stop. Enrique. You do everything again. All I gotta do is just this one beats forwards before words relying phases and what gets to go going a focus right here. Great. I couldn't go back for this is a manual way of looping on. It's not intended to be used as a looping functions. Just jump back, forward, discuss in the next video proper ways out to loop certain sections of our song. So this video main take away is one beat two for eight or 16 feet jumps that you can technically or creatively put to use. Thank you for listening.
3. Using Effects Sound Color FX Section: Okay, So in this video, we jump back into a mixer Onda. We continue on from where we left off in the previous videos. So we've talked about They queue in our last video and now I'm gonna show you a new section on the mixer. It's called the Sound Color Effects. And it's this six color effects are we're going to explain and here, as well as this parameter knob that is responsible for this six color effects. And also, where do you apply this effects is by this color no, right here. So if you want to play an effect on Channel One, you got move this No, right there. So color effects are simple. Let's call them effect that they add color to our sound. And this six are go to effects. And that's first here. How each one on them sounds on. Then we'll explain exactly what they do. So the first effect that we're going to hear is called space. So when something is blinking, that means this affect is on right now, right? And I'm going to apply it using this color knob, and I'm going towards a space color onto this sound and Then when I put the call or no back in 12 oclock no effects and I moved it to the left. If I move it to the right, the color of the actual space effect changes. So everyone off this no has a low and a high color for a low frequency space, no space and a high frequency space right there. So space effect is also known as river. It actually takes the sound our signal and adds it into a room, either a dark room or a bright room. Now the parameter. Nope. For this base effect, it does one thing. It controls how big or how small that dark or bright room is. If I put the parameter all the way to minimal and I go dark room, the river sounds very short because it's a very small room as I increase the perimeter. No, you can hear how large that dark space is cause we're on Max when I do the same thing super small space or super small room and increase for the right. But that bright, high frequency effect for the space supplied here high roller and I increase the science. It's a pretty large room. So even if this is blinking effect and the parameter is set to Max, when this is a 12 o'clock, nothing is applied to our channel as soon as you are justice effect or the color is applied . So that was our space effect, and now we're going to hear and understand what is the dub echo effects? So I guess as you expect, two types off colors on the echo, echo is a delay. One is a dark color. The other one is a bright color, so we'll do the dark color. Sounds pretty weird because the delay time it's so short that is almost on the beat. The actual soul. Yeah, you don't even hear it. As I increase parameter, it increases the time off the delay way. Have a very long delayed parameter here has nothing to do with the size off the room. That's for space parameter here deals with Echo and the according delayed time. So again, I mean with a parameter a 12 0 clock and let's hear brights Stop echo one of the big kicks in you're gonna hear that flatter on the and not too small of a delay right in. That's a small to medium delay on the heart, - always with effects. Less is more, but with the parameter, you'd realize this with a quenelle. Go back to space as well. 10 o'clock, two o'clock works really, really well on when you're about from 10 to 2 o'clock on the parameter. Anywhere between let's see nine 23 is also a good amount to be applied to the channel. Anything I both that it sounds over process and a bit too busy and hectic. So anywhere in the middle, right here but us a big blast effect. We can do it right here. I like this song is ending 10 9 We're getting the feedback from our joke, and I'm doing this on purpose. I'd like to play the same song again. All right, so we've heard the echo dark and bright moment and parameter is the length of your delays. Sweep is a sweeping filter. Sweep means it's a moving filter, so it's going to slightly move the sounds in frequency. So thing off the queues as part of a sweeping filter. So when I moved to the low end filter is jumping up and down, so it's almost like it's skipping some sections in between the beats, right? You can hear the kick anymore, right? So think kick is almost gone. And if I do the parameter full, it gets even more and more aggressive right there. Mount applied this much more aggressive here. If I pull off down the parameter, you hear that not any significant changes happening there. So that's what the sweeping, slightly moving filter and that's the low, dark sweep. The bright sweep works almost the identical minor. We can use a parameter to move around. You don't hear that sort of ducking or side chaining the beat. The loan is completely gone, right? It's just the highs that are there, right, so you can have a little fun playing with a street filter or sweep effect. And it's slightly sounds different on the low one, done on the Ryan on the parameter no plays a huge factor in where the sweeping. So now the sweep is in the low and sweeping up to the writer frequencies. Although we are on a high color and here it's sweeping on the high frequencies, so the lows are gone completely, and then here we're slipping back into the nose and you can distinctively hear the beat. Yep. The next effect. This noise on. I need to give you a bit of a warning. Uh, be very careful when you use the noise effect. It's just noise. So let me just lower the truck completely. And when you hear the noise sounds, even if you are halfway through the parameter and you're just adding a bit off noise, it gets very loud. Yeah, you can hear the noise now. Increase. So always, always, always the best way or the best practice to start with noise is switch it on, put the perimeter all the way. It's minimal. So you don't hear it. And some noise So you don't hear anything and then slowly increase the parameter. No. Until you here a little bit of the noise and then you can control it. You wanna be reciprocal with it? Yeah. And the key there is to be very subtle again. Be very careful with this effect. It also works when the fader is up and there is no music playing. Yeah, I just wanted to demonstrate that. Always make sure you start at minimum. Yeah, if this is all the way, Max, and you go and press noise and you slightly move this. He gets loud, super fast, super quick and in a big environment where you have and large settle speakers. This could actually either hurts the speakers or, more importantly, heard the people that are right there in the venue with you and also including yourself. Right? So just to demonstrate this again, Max parameter and the color Nobis just like 12. 31 off we're already at, like a decent abound off level. It sounds pretty horrible because this is a decent amount of level off noise, Right, So no music. So this is one of my least favorite effects. But again, if you're into E g. M and high energy music, yeah, you could put this to good use as long as you control this with the parameter. So in the previous versions off the D. J M 900 Nexus mixer, the parameter no was not a part of the mixer. But in the next two model, they added this for extra control of effects and for the noise. This is the volume of the noise. The parameter becomes the volume off the noise. Yep. So moving on tour. Next effect. This is called the Crushed. This effect right here. It crushes the quality off the sounds so it degrades it. But think of it as an amplifier, like a guitar, so it can actually had a bit of a color to your sound. So let's hear the dark for that. No color. And then that's a dark crush. Cautious. The bass frequencies and the hi color that's progressively here that first. So it's a very good effect, I believe, to bring down the energy and then bring it back up again. It works really well again with the barometer here, the barometer defines how aggressive the crashes and always the nobles, their mountains off perfect a plight. Okay, you can jump from effect to effect them with instantly stop the previous effect start the next and our goto effect on saved the best for last hour filter. So this is a go to D J effect. So you have a no filter and a high filter, and this is how low counts light. So this is thundered club effects on this right here. This effect could easily almost be replicated by removing the midst and the highs and posting just a little bit the lows. He gives you almost the same effect as there. No filter. Yeah, this is a bit more pronounced, a bit more sort of high. Great. Now, same thing on the high end. From the high end, all the low frequencies are gone. You're focusing on on the bright frequencies and then the parameter for the filter eight controls the attention off the frequency you choose, whether it's a high frequency or low frequency. So here there is no crazy tension, Right? So let me just jump out of the break just to get a beat again. So right now, if you focus on the low end, the low end is quite thin. Yeah, there's not a lot off base in it. As I increase the parameter, the Lohan gets a bit more and more aggressive. I think right about so clock right after two o'clock. And we hear this better with the high frequencies again. Not a lot of tension here. Aggressiveness. The hi hats sound right. As I increased the parameter right after two o'clock, it gets if you can hear it now. Do you hear how the filter sort of singing. That's what I mean by tension. So Thebe parameter here controls what we called the quality off the filter. So a very large or to the maximum parameter value gives you a very low quality. So the quality and the parameter values are inversely related. So a lot of parameter very low quality. Yeah, again, this is in a big sound system will actually start to pierce your ears and very low volume. The parameter means super super high quality filter or there is no tension on the frequency you chose to accentuate here and focus on. Yep. So this was the last go to effect. And again, this effect here so bright filter could also be simulated by killing the lows, increasing the highest and decreasing a bit off the mid range is the same almost the same, but very similar sounding. So these are the four effect face. You're found in a room that relate to your sound. And when it reaches first, I'm just gonna switch it off for the delay trail so you can hear the delays flood there in the background. And as I move this delay with slowly fade out. This also happens with 1234 and the space flatters on the background and slowly bring this back for the sweet noise crash filters. There is no flattering or time decaying on the background for us. Forsooth. Sweep it off, its on its off when the crash off. It's all militaries, all. So for the 1st 2 effects space and the echo, they have that time based element to them so they can continue on even after your music has , um, defect has has don't so that's defective Still going on. This is one way you can make some tracks by a having a huge effect on one and then slowly fading. And the next song, Maybe this could be when you're changing from one style of music into the other than they're not super compatible. You don't know how else makes it through. You can do that. I can't do that once again here, - So I hope you enjoyed our first section off effects. Always really, really good to use them and practice and figure out which are your favorite effects. You might have two or three from the six that are you Goto effects. Or they are in conjunction used with mixing technique that even makes your transitions much march more entertaining on DNA. Now, in our next video, I'm just going to show you a quick mix with levels accused and some effects during a transition and as songs play around, so stick around for the next video.
4. Sound Color FX Demo: All right, So in this video, do a quick mix with our levels and our equalizers and add a layer off effects throughout this video. Just toe conveyed the message. Yeah, at certain points, I might go overboard. But, please, you know, with effects less is more. I'm just doing it for demo practices. So let's start off with a truck. Oh, Oh!
5. Creative use of Loop Functions: Okay, So in this video, we discover and explore our looping functions right here. Perfect way to repeat consistently and effectively a section we want to in a song. So right off the back let's play this song and I'll demonstrate different ways where you could go forwards so we can manually look in announce is this two orange buttons? This'd is the beginning off the loop and this is the end of the book. So I'm gonna press it right there on the one. And I'm going to look for eight beats from one interesting out right there and it's looping this highlight of the yellow section right here, and it's going to be living in forever and always remember when things are blinking, the parents, they are active. So we are manually setting in no point in and no point. And we're looking a beat right here. If I want to exist. My there is this exit button, but now is orange and I could exit in. The song continues to play. Try? Yeah, So now if I want to create another look, maybe a four beat, I'll choose it right here. Last four beats before we go into the break. So now we are looking manually within an hour, four beats. And now, since we're in the the exit button is illuminated exits. We're back out again. She just moved looking again here on the one Let me do 16. Look out in this here. Now we're looking 16 and every time I am looking in announced we have this menu here that also tells me I'm looking at 16 or previously with AIDS. And then also for now, I'm going to exit again, and I want you to see that my previous 16 feet looked. That area now is great. Out the exit button has a second function where you can actually really loop your last section. So let this section get out off my screen here, and I'm going to just press relook again or the exit button again to enter there. And we'd jump all the way from here back to our last look. So now I'm going toe exit the look. This is a great out area. But next I'm going to add another loop right here. A big group. And if you have noticed that previous gray area is gone now, when I exit that look, that great area is there, those two beats. So you this system can only remember your last loping points if I create a look here and here. Previously those two feet loops are gone, and I exit things. Has a gray marker or surface on it. So when I press release, we're back there again to our last look. Now this is one way off, looping in and out of your system with a manual touch in the end, on a manual touched in the out and you're specifying the duration of your flu. There's another way, an easier way. One click way with call. It's where it's this bus in here and it says four and eight beats. So if I press, this one is going to look a Section four beats sections of the do it right here, so process. And now we have for be looked just by touching. This bus is essentially what I was doing exactly before, manually with in and the out and again exit to get out of it, exit again to get back to it, exit to get out of it again. Now if I press and hold because there is eight beats with his dash that means is a present . Hold on. I'm gonna press and hold, and it goes from 4 to 8 beats. So this is another quick way to Luke. Eight beats seamlessly exit and press and hold eight. Exit. Just press gives me for money or way, way and gives me for anyway, whether manual four or straight eight beats when this many of pops up. You can also extend the loop with touch screen here to 16 and 32 beats, which is a very long look. It's a musical phrases 32 weeks back. Let's go back to to one and 1/4 beat. Yeah, so you have all the flexibility of the touch screen to gold away from Quarter 32 beats seamless Look. So this is Theo the But since to go in manually in announced four or eight right here, enter, uh, exit or really your section. There's also some really cool options here with our look call button, so let me know four beats for whatever reason, if you don't want to touch your screen, you can have a loop with left Cairo bucks and so forth 2 to 1 tohave course there. And the beautiful thing about this button is you can actually go even lower. So from coarser weaken Goto eight 16 30 seconds. 64 1 28 That's the highest way can go. I'm from 32 with the right look cold, You can go 64. And now I'm looking the whole great right there. And of course, from 64 I can go to 1 28 which is significantly a very long period of time to be looking on from 1 28 I can go to to 56 5 12 And that almost entirely lips the whole song from the beginning to the ends. Yeah, gives you about 78 minutes, depending on the web cam of your song. So super excessively long and super Excessively short duration. I just Thank you. Just use I need to look this song also from the beginnings, Was it right? 64 beats bring it in with high effects. Thank you. Way. - So that was a quick looping with effects demonstration for you and obviously parties makes perfect. Looping is a very creative tool to use for certain sections. And you can have multiple loops, and I'll show you how to do that in the next videos as well. We're not done with looping just yet. A few more features, but just for now to get you started to start using looping, this is the very, very, very beginning, right? So thank you for watching. I'll see you in the next videos as well.
6. RekordBox Overview Part 1 Playlists & Sync Manager & Itunes: All right. So in this video, I'm going to show you some play dysfunctions, how to sink your USB and also some your stuff with iTunes case you're using iTunes. So now, since we've been using record books for a few weeks will be much easier for you to explain all this stuff again. So right now what? I'm gonna do it on a credit playlist. Want to call this house? I'm gonna find some music and just struck and drop it. And so record books and gonna analyze everything and we're good. Now let's go into iTunes. I already have a playlist in my iTunes. I don't really use our engines on Nike. It burnt, you know, in case you do hear some knowledge for you. So I've got a playlist, and for this to work, we need to go into iTunes preferences and then choose advanced. And make sure this option is oh shared the iTunes library XML Zoff text file format with other applications. So record books can access this tracks right here. And if you look into record books, uh, I construction always and playlists on the techno tracks, and they are already here, so let me change something within items with me dressed creates. Aunt, visit your truck here. All right, so now 24 songs in iTunes but record books still shows us 23. So we need to always click this refresh button. And that song is just add it and is being ionized. You see, since things are coming from iTunes says this track imported to the collection and also the phrases analyze so we're good to go. So now it's part off the record box collection. So even if you change things around in your iTunes playlists, you are transferring move trucks. Whatever you dio as you develop your playlist in iTunes, you can always reload the latest, uh, settings. And that would be reflected in record box. So right now, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna sink the House playlist that I created within record books and the iTunes playlist called Techno Track. So let's see how that works. So when I click on sink manager and they enable this option here for I, Jones and make sure this option is here to synchronize players from the device. So let's first just do. Our house plate is from record box, and that's happening on the background That's on the USB right now. And also, let's do the techno track that's happening. Here are a few more track, so it's going to take a minute or so. So now, while we're exporting, let's see our war devices. So this is my USB. And just to make sure everything works, we have the house playlist on the USB and we have the technol cranks, uh, music from our iTunes playlist. So another cool thing I want to tell you is a sorting option. So how you see your tracks here on your playlists right here is how they appear also in the city, Jay. So, for example, for whatever reason, you might say, Oh, you know, I want this track number 12 to be actually on top of my list. You could re arrange this was sorry. I gotta do it in Burger on iTunes. This is on iTunes playlist. So I put it up there at the list and resync there. So now it went from track 12 all the way to one. So if you want to sort of control how their ordered, they go by this number here so Truck 24. They last won. We imported. Let's put this on number two and then Resync so reload and then re sync takes like a second and we're good to go. Same thing with the plane issue created record books. Let's say let's do that. So I want to have everything down by BPM. So let's order it by truck again. So I wanna have 1 26 This guy here to be number one. So 1 26 1 2128 this 1 28 PM, 1 28 PM Truck put it. That was but a second. There we go. So now, 123456 And there's some warned, Ordered by B. P m. That changed the order, changed the practice it and change. So now that's also reflected in our war playlists here. Yeah, so here we will have a deal. Is us the first on this track ass? A second track. So this is some, uh, quick review and some new info in regards to playlists, sink and items
7. RekordBox Overview Part 2 CDJ:USB Optimal Settings & Ordering Tracks: All right, So in this video, I want to go over our preferences, so thes preferences are super important. I'm going to give you the sort of optimal settings on here. We don't need to touch much unless you wanna change this towards you. Be audio is your audio card. You may have different settings. Don't touch anything. Here. The analysis is best Sitting is normal for dance music. It's normal for that for anything that changes over time. Maybe it's an old recording or it's a bad recording record Books will do its best when you choose dynamic. But yeah, if something is changing its size speed even slightly, I would recommend you not to play announce. Oh, are don't use your visual face meters and strictly depend on your ear. Which gonna be a little tough. Yeah, all music, especially stuff recorded after the nineties. So, like even like late eighties like 88 89 when computers were introduced into studios, everything is sink to a computer which has absolute time before that. You know, old old bands, you know, Queen Beatles and that kind of music that kind of era. They were using tape and a nano machines and the timing was usually kept by the drummer. So it was a good drummer. You would have a relatively stable time. But again today, with record books and computers and software like ableto, even with a very old recording, you can go in and create as many grids as he wants to make sure that is tight with time. So, yeah, that's normal in dynamic, nothing to change their. And we come back to this. This is our important window. This is if you want to change shortcuts or actual cuts advise you not to, for now, a list on Yeah. So this is where it thinks to your iTunes how your browser sort of behaves on what colors you want to see on your screen. We'll see this, uh, next class, best recording options for record books and clintonization body owes. And so so here in our city J, this are the best settings for General. Hey, you make sure whatever you like. I like to see the artist The key on bpm So much wrapping, uh, then sort options by artist bpm. Any rating? I created any keys? That's fine. You can choose whatever you like. And you know what I attempt to show next to the truck name on this deejay screen. I like to see the BPM. Some people like to see the key there. John. Whatever makes sense to you, that's perfectly fine. Hot kills switch that on and device Have everything switched on. Really? The most important top here is my settings. So these are the optimal settings toe have on your city J or Rx two controller. And you have this settings. You're good too. Go. So once you have applied this settings where you made any changes Always remember, it's always best to just sink again. So these settings are applied or your USB so they could also come back here to your devices . My use bees cold cost us, Papa. I can change it here. A swell if I need to. So I could change the default color off the light on the city jail where a plaque in my USB so I could have something unique. So that's sick. Pink away from color. RGB again full, then these are the settings that you have again on your USB. This is what we chose from our preferences here and these are all the settings, right? So anything you change here will be reflected to your USB was soon as you sink it with the same manager. Yeah. And you can always change enough. They things from here. But I advise you to always do it from your record books, settings. So you have a beautiful settings across the software and the hardware. Thank you for watching. I'll see you in our next video.
8. RekordBox Overview Part 3 Fixing The Grid, Syncing Back to Rekordbox: in this video, I'm going to show you how to fix a grid first from the software. And then I'll jump onto the hardware once again on then show you in the next videos how to sing everything together. So right now, I think, Yeah. So this track here, the grades are all wrong. So that's the first beat. Let's zoom in a little bit. Yeah, so that's that's the first bid right here. But the one is actually, they're so that's what the one The one should be here. So let's move our audio to the beginning off the play head right here. Make it us so accurately as we can on this screen. So as soon as that is there, make sure you are on great modes. Yeah, if you're in Cuba, this section looks different. And if your grades this is the settings we need specifically this so set the first beat off the bar to the current position. So let me fix that. So now, assuming that the audio doesn't change in tempo, this is going to be a uniformed thrown so the grades will be fixed across the whole song. So So I usually use like breaks because it's quite easy to see dance the difference between the way form and beats. Yes, what's pretty easy? This looks, you know, We sure leading. Correct. So now the truck. So the train is fixed in our playlist locally or record books. So, idealised let's see how it looks on our well, he was be So this is the playlist on our years be now This should still be wrong because this is on the USB We haven't yet sink it tore years be right. So exactly. Yeah, that's how the song was in our local playlist here. So now we're going to do is your sink Manager two after the changes to our years being Yeah and see that worked. So now the USB and record books have the same great settings. Now there's also I think this seems a bit I think this story is a bit off. Yeah, so it's not too bad, but it's like it way off. So settled me fixing this are the ages that relieved on record books. I'm gonna show you how to adjust the grids on this. A DJs. All right. So when applying in my USB and I set things just for practice. Go into my section of tracks. Yeah, and that's the truck there. Let's see. So definitely the repped points. The first beat is slightly off. So this is rotering says it right there, too. On I'm going to click and hold. No, it says grit. And the lines became solid right at the beginning, off the and then hold to go back to zone So I can use this just but that's fixed. So now we're gonna take the USB back into record books and seeing band this song on the USB is corrected on the same song in our library is still wrong. All right, so we're back to the software. That's first. Look into our worry you as b and its load this track here to see Yeah. So the greats of perfect on arm or the wise that's going toe our iTunes playlist and load that. So that's older own. Yeah. So now when I want to show you is go back to sink manager. Right. So the song here is wrong in terms off the grid. We're not going to sink it. So are yours be a song in our years. B is correct in terms of breeding, so we need to send this new edits we've done on the hardware back into our library.
