About This Class

So you just bought a Cricut machine...now what??

With a Cricut machine, you have the ability to make endless projects - tumblers, tshirts, greeting cards, wall hangings, welcome mats, and the list is endless! Because there are so many options (and specific supplies needed for each), you might feel a bit overwhelmed!

So in this class, I’ll help you get your first project under your belt. I’ll show you how to get everything installed and ready to go, and then we’ll use an SVG template, along with basic cardstock and glue, to create 3 gorgeous rolled paper flowers!

You’ll learn how to:

• Install your new machine and software

• Create your first project - a beautiful rolled paper flower!

• Find inspiring projects for your Cricut machine

• Troubleshoot common problems you might face

By the end of the class, you’ll feel more comfortable with the process of uploading files into Cricut software, and how everything works together when creating a project.  Don’t hesitate to reach out in the Discussion section if you run into any snags!

1. Introduction: Hi, I'm Anna and I'm a graphic designer, illustrator and crafter. You might know me from my YouTube channels. The first one, my main channel is graphic design, how-to, and it's all about graphic design, of course. And then the secondary one is SVG cut file. And now when covers cricket topics and just talks about SVG files and how to use them. I've been using my cricket machine for about four years now to make little crafting projects. And it's really kind of like therapy for me. Now this class is for complete beginners. So I'll show you how to set up your brand new cricket machine, will go out and download and install Cricket Design space for your computer. Then we'll jump into the ear first project making these little rolled flowers they are so fun to make and really rewarding. Now, the best-case scenario of supplies is a computer, a cricket machine, green cricket mat, and this is something that came with my cricket machine. Also a cricket scraper like this one. This also came with my cricket machine. So you should have these things. If you have a cricket machine unless you bought it used or something like that. You'll also need card stock. I like to use sixty-five pound array pay cone pastel card stock. You'll also need tweezers or a cooling tool and a hot glue gun. Now that's the best-case scenario. You can definitely change up the type of card stock. I've used Elmer's glue instead of a glue gun. And actually, you could use a silhouette machine or a brother cutting machine if you want us to do that. But you don't actually need a cutting machine at all. You can just use the PDF file on the exercise files, print that out and cut it out with scissors. If you only want to make the world flowers. Once you enroll, you'll have access to the three flour templates that we'll use in this class. But there's actually a whole bundle in my design bundles shop if you want to access to all nine flowers that I've created in it, I'll leave a QR code and a link right up here. If you want to type that into your browser or just scan it with your phone. And I wanted to tell us, you know, with these flowers you get a personal and commercial use license. So that means you can create projects and then sell them if you wanted to do that. But you can't sell the digital file itself, of course. Alright, let's get started. 2. Note to Cricut Newbies: Now I went to mention that this is not a full course about learning cricket design space. I do plan to make a masterclass for cricket soon, where we really dive into everything that program can do and a lot of different projects you can make with your Cricket. I created this class to just kind of getting your feet wet, get to use to design space works, and then get your first project under your belt. And I personally think that rolled roses, enrolled paper flowers are one of the more rewarding things you can make with your cricket, especially as a beginner. 3. Download the Exercise Files: Virtual and download the exercise files that come with this class. We're going to be making three rolled paper flowers and the templates for those are in the exercise files. Now here's how to go about downloading those on Skillshare. Now these files are actually for a different class, but I just wanted to show you the location. You'll scroll down beneath the video and you'll click on this Projects and Resources tab right here. And then you'll see the exercise files dot zip right here. And you can just click on that. And when you do it'll come right down here. If you're on Chrome, or sometimes it comes right up here, but either way it'll end up in your downloads. I'm here on my downloads and on a Mac you can hit Option Command L to get to that really quickly. On a PC, it's going to probably be over here in your favorite somewhere. To open your exercise files, dot zip. All you have to do on a Mac is just double-click and it'll create this little folder that has the exercise files in it on a PC, you can just right-click and choose, extract or extract all. 4. Download Cricut Design Space for Mac: Cricket design space is free to download and install, and these are the instructions for a Mac computer. I'm going to open Google Chrome. Then I'm going to navigate to design.cricket.com. Once you go to this website, it'll know whether you're on a PC or a Mac. It's saying design space for Mac. I'll click open. Then I'll click, I agree to the cricket terms of use and privacy policy. And of course you'll want to read through those to make sure that you do agree before clicking this. But I do and it's no problem. I'm going to choose Download now. When I do that, it comes right down here to the lower left of my screen and downloads here. Now if you're not on Chrome, if you're on some other browser, it might come up here or it might be in a different place, but it'll most likely end up in your downloads folder. I'm going to click this little carrot right here and choose Show in Finder, and it automatically brings me to my Downloads. Now you can also get to your downloads on a Mac by hitting Option Command L. And it'll also most likely be over here somewhere on the left side of your Finder window. This is a dot d MG file and open it all we have to do is double-click. Next, we'll get this screen and to install cricket, all we have to do is click and drag this over into this folder. Alright, now let's open our Applications folder by double-clicking this folder. Now I'm just going to start typing CRI, and it should pop up right here. You can also just navigate down here with this scroll bar. Here it is. I'm going to double-click it. And it'll open it down here in my doc. Now this is giving us a warning saying, Hey, this is something we got on the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it? And it's fine because we trust cricket, this is not like a virus or something like that. I'll say Open. Alright, now if you've never logged in before, you'll probably get to this screen. First, I'm going to choose products setup and we'll have to create a cricket ID. You'll have to fill out all of this information in your e-mail and make a new password, your first and last name, and then you won't have to check this one, but you'll probably have to check. I agree to the terms of use and privacy policy. Now when you create your curricular ID, you might have to go out and verify it with your email address. So definitely put it in an e-mail address that you have access to currently, I already have a cricket ID, so I'm gonna go ahead and sign in. Now I've come to the cricket setup page. I've got a cutting machine, so I'm gonna choose this one. And mine is a cricket Explorer family. And then it's going to tell you how to prepare your workspace, plug-in your chords and all that kind of thing. But we're going to cover this later in the class. But if you're using a different cricket machine, this will tell you how to set it up. I'm just gonna go back now and I'll get out of this right here. I'll go ahead and exit the product setup. And I'm going to go ahead and resize my window a little bit so it fills the screen and I'll go ahead and start a new project. Now this is the screen that you'll usually see. You've got shapes right here, so you can click on that and maybe we want to just add a rounded rectangle. You can resize right here. You can rotate. You can just click and drag to reposition on your page. You also have texts here, so we'll click on that and it automatically add some text to our screen. I'll type pillow. I'm going to click off meeting. Just click a blank area in psych trigger design space. And after I do that, then I can just click and drag it to a new location. I also have the option here, every sizing, rotating and that kind of thing. All right, I'm just going to delete these because they're going to be using a template. But at this point, curricular design spaces installed and ready to go. 5. Download Cricut Design Space for Windows PC: If you haven't already downloaded cricket designers face onto your PC, we're going to go over how to do that next. And cricket, the science space is free to download and install, so you don't have to pay anything to do that. Okay, So the first thing we'll do is open Google Chrome and I'm going to go to Design.cricket.com. And it'll know that we're on a Windows machine so it can automatically detect that. I'll click Open. Now I'll choose, I agreed a cricket terms of use and privacy policy. And these are things you're going to want to read and make sure you do agree with that. I'm totally okay with this, so I'll click, I agree. And then I'll choose Download now on Google Chrome and they'll download right down here in the lower left area of your screen. If you're on another browser, it might be like up here at this hobby or something like that. But either way it'll probably go into your downloads folder. Okay, so it's finished downloading. And now I'm going to click on this little carrot right here and choose show in folder. And this should open my downloads window. Here it is right here. I'm going to double-click this. Now if you didn't see that little carrot or something like that, you can always get to downloads right over here in your favorites. Now curricular design space is installing, so we just need to give it a minute to do that. And now it's open. If you don't get this window, you can also click right down here on the cricket button at the bottom of your screen. I'm gonna go ahead and maximize this window. Now I want to do products setup. Now here you'll need to create a cricket idea if you don't already have one. So you'll need to put in a current e-mail address, password, FirstName, LastName, just all that kind of thing. And then you won't have to check this button, but you'll probably need to check this Terms of Use and privacy policy again. Now once you do this, you'll probably need to verify your email address. You have to go to Gmail or Yahoo or wherever you have your e-mail address, login and verify this account, then you can come over here to sign in. I already have a cricket email address, so I'm just going to enter that now. Now we're in cricket setup. Now we can choose what kind of product we have. I have a smart cutting machine, and my cutting machine is a curriculum Explorer family. So I'm going to choose this one right down here. Now this is going to give us some instructions on how to set up our cricket machine. You can kind of scroll through these if you want to. But we're going to cover this in another lesson. Just know that this info is here if you need it. I'm gonna go ahead and just X out right up here. Now we'll get to this screen and up here is new project. So click that. And this is a screen you'll see most of the time when you're getting ready to cut something. So you have a lot of options right over here, you got shapes. If you click here, you can add different shapes to your screen. I'll just choose this polygon. And now I can click on the polygon and move it. I can click and drag this button to re-size it, or this Rotate button up here to rotate it around. I can also unlock it if I want to resize non proportionally so I could stretch it if I wanted to do that and then lock it again if I want to resize proportionally. Now there's also the text tool and I'll click that and I'll change my text to hello. Then I'm going to click off. And when I say click Off, I just mean click on a different part of your screen that doesn't have anything on it. If I click on this again, I get the same controls we saw up here so I could resize it, rotate it, and that kind of thing. Now if I wanted to change the text to something else, all I have to do is double-click it. I can change it to, wow, if I wanted to, I'm going to just draw a box around these to select them. I'll just hit my Delete or Backspace key to get rid of those, we'll be using a template in this class so we won't actually be creating our own artwork. But now curricular design space is installed and ready to go. 6. Flower 1 Load the template into Cricut Design Space: All right, I'm going to navigate to curricular design space. I'm gonna go to my applications and double-click on design space to open it. Now if you're on a PC, you might already have a shortcut button to Cricket Design space on your desktop. So you'll want to click that instead. Okay, so first thing we'll do is come up here to new project. Then I'm gonna come down here to the lower-left side and choose Upload. Next I'll choose Upload Image and I'll hit Browse. Now I'm going to navigate to my exercise files. I'll click downloads over here. And here's the little folder that was made from the unzipped file. I'm gonna click on flowers separates. And if you're using a cricket machine, you'll want to use the SVG file. And we'll choose flower one. If you have a different kind of cutting machine, you might need to try the DXF files, but either way, just open flower one. If you're cutting these out by hand, that'll be page one and the separate PDF will open that. And then I'll choose Upload right here. I'll click on it right over here and you can see it load right down here. If you have it selected, then I'll choose Add to Canvas. Now I went the short side, right now the short side is 6.159 inches. I went that short side to be 8.5 roughly, maybe just a little bit smaller because I don't want it to go all the way out to the edge of the paper. First, I'll look at this lock up here. You want to make sure the lock is locked. If you click it once, you'll see that it unlocks. And that means when you change the width or height, it'll only change that size. So you'll basically be stretching it. And we don't want that we wanted to size proportionally. So I'm gonna go ahead and click the lock. Then I went to change this 6.159 sides, the short side to 8.25. So I can just type that in there, highlight that space and type it in. Then I'm just going to hit Enter or Return. Now our template is 8.25 inches wide by 9.109 tall. I actually want this to be positioned differently on the page, so I'm going to rotate it. I went to click this little rotate button. And if you're not seeing that, make sure you click on your template, then these controls will show up. I'm gonna click on this. I'll hold Shift and drag. And that'll make it snap so that it's perfectly at a 90 degree angle. I went a physician it not all the way over to the side. I don't want to exactly at 00. I want to give it a little bit of space here on the left and on the top. And our cut area is gonna be right here at the 8.5. So we're a little within that and that is nice. So it's gonna be kind of maxed out on our letter size sheet over here in the layers I can see I only have one layer and it's called basic cut. And now we're ready to cut. We can just go to make it right up here. Our material size is going to be 8.5 by 11. Right now that is not an option and that's because for whatever reason it's not recognizing my rotation. I'm going to have to rotate it in here. I'll click on the rotate button and I'm just going to hold Shift again and rotate it around until it's like it was before. And then release. Now I position this all the way up against this red line off the top and the side. But I'm still not getting the option to change my material size 2.5 by 11. I think we're going to have to make this a little smaller. This is something you might run into. So I wanted to show you that this can happen. So I'm gonna go ahead and cancel. I'll click on my template again. And I'm just going to resize this a little bit more. I'm going to make it about 7.8. Then I'll move it over to the left but not touching the top and the side. Now I'm going to try and make it again. Now when we look at material size, we have the option of choosing 8.5 inch by 11. So I'm going to choose that. Then it automatically rotates it for me. I've got it positioned. And now you can see the mat right here. And this shows you exactly where to place your card stock on the mat. 7. Load the cardstock on the Cricut mat: Now for card stock, I use this cricket green mat and it is the less sticky of the mat, so I like that also it comes with this piece of plastic over the top to keep it from getting too sticky, if that's a word. Now this is one of my more heavily used Mads. You can see little pieces of deaths and things like that. And I actually prefer that when I first got this Matt, it was too sticky to use for card stock. I could not get the card stock off of it without it kind of ripping. So I took this sticky side down and drag it across my bedspread so that it would pick up all these little pieces of the fabric and deaths and that kind of thing and make it less sticky. And I've noticed since I did that, that I don't really need something overly sticky. In fact, I prefer less sticky as long as the card stack isn't coming off or sliding or something like that. The way I have this one now, it's just about perfect. I've got my piece of card stock and I'm going to position this as zeros 0, right up in the corner, right up here. I'll make sure it's straight here. There's also a line across the top so that it's straight. And then I'll just press this on with my hands. When I pick it up. It doesn't move. It shouldn't be so sticky that it slides off or anything like that. As I mentioned before, I use pecan array pastels and I got this from Amazon, but I've heard the Michel's recollection brand of card stock is also really good. So now we're ready to put this in the machine. 8. Connect Your Cricut Machine: So the next step is to connect our machine. Now, you should have two chords for your cricket machine. One that looks like this, which will plug in here to the back of your machine. And then another one that looks like this, and it's actually just a printer cable, at least it seems like it that one plugs in right over here. Now the other end of that is just a USB cord and that'll plug right into your computer. Then the other end of the other one is just a wall jack. So you just need to plug this into the wall for power. 9. Flower 1 Cut with the Cricut Machine: Next, we'll want to turn the power on. Also open it. Then we'll click Continue. Now although I've connected my machine and turned it on, it's not registering a cricket design space. So I'm just going to power it off and then turn it back on. And then I'll come up here and then just click this Refresh button. It might take a little bit of time to connect. Now it's connected to the cricket. Now we need to check our settings and we want it to be set to card stock. Right now I have it set to card stock. You can also see that here inside cricket design space it says base material set to card stock £80. The way it cuts really does depend on how sharp your blade is or how new it is. If one's not working, just try the other. Now for number two, it says to load the tools and material, we don't need a special tool. And the fine point blade is the one that came with my cricket machine has already said here this is our blade. So our next step is to load the mat and press the load and unload button. I'm going to make sure it goes in here. And in here. I'll just set it in there until it's touching these rollers back here. Then I'm going to push this flashing arrow button. Then finally, in curricular design space, you'll see that it's accepted the load. And then all we have to do is press Go, which is this little cricket flashing button right here. Then the cat starts. Our cut is complete. Now all we have to do is unload the material. And to do that, we push this button here. 10. Troubleshooting Cricut Problems: If you're a cricket machine didn't cut the card stock and the way that you had hoped, maybe it's like not cutting all the way through or maybe it's a ripping the paper. Here are some solutions to that. If it is not cutting all the way through and make sure you're turning the dial to the correct setting. That is the biggest problem is the card stock is a ripping. That might also be the problem. Just make sure your materials set right if it's still not working, the next step is to remove your blade from your cricket machine. And sometimes I just blow on it. But usually you can see if there's some material like stuck on it, especially if you're cutting like glitter card stock, that glitter usually just gets sex with a blade like crazy. Another problem might be that your card stock is not stuck to your mat well enough. So if your mat is just not sticky enough, that could be an issue. Now there are ways to clean your mat. You can do that with like a dish soap and it'll make it sticky again. I've never actually had that problem though. My mat is really not very sticky at all and everything seems to work fine. But I have heard that can be a problem. You can also tape your card stock to the mat if you want to try that route and make sure you're using high-quality materials. This probably isn't going to work very well with something like construction paper because it's sort of a low-quality type of paper that breaks apart easily. If you're still having trouble. Be sure to leave a note below the video. That way I can help you troubleshoot. 11. Flower 1 Rolling and Gluing: Now it's time to take the card stock off the mat and I'm going to use my cricket scraper for that. I'm gonna get right under this edge. Matte is just so not sticky that I can actually just get it started and then pull this right off of here. I'm going to be really careful though. It looks like part of it's not cutting all the way through. I think it's going to work okay. But it looks like I might need a new blade. Just going to loosen it from the edges. I'm gonna be really careful because if it catches, it's going to rip our actual flower template and we don't want that. All right, Now at this point I just need to get this under the edge here. I'm going to make sure that my scraper is on the inside. I don't want it out like this because it's going to kind of catch here and it'll probably rip. So we want to keep the bulk of our scraper on that inside edge as we go around releasing it from the mat. It can be kind of tricky. And I've come really close to actually tearing it. So just be careful and try not to get any bends in it. Either. Hard bend will cause it to just always want to bend right there. It won't want a role as nicely. Now right here we're gonna run into a little bit of an issue. I'm gonna get out here and get that piece up. And then we can just slide it under there like that. Alright, our next step with this is to limber up the card stock. And to do this, I just use a paintbrush. You could easily use a pencil for this or anything that just has a, a rounded shape. Now we're going to be folding this in towards the center of the flower. So I'm gonna start out here in fold in. I'm just going to fold each little petal around the paintbrush. I've tried to do it without doing this C4. And it does, does not work very well. So I really highly recommend going ahead and taking this step. Limber up your card stock so it's able to bend easier. Of course, it is really fragile. This little line here. So take care not to tear it. I just kind of go back and forth like this with each petal around the paint brush. It'll kinda want to get tangled onto itself. So just watch out for that. Now once you get to the bigger petals, you'll want to actually center the base of the petal and the edge of the petal on your tool. I went to just have them be lop-sided like this. You want them to be straight so that the petals have a natural bend. You can see sometimes I get an actual crease in there. You want to avoid that kind of thing if you can. It really doesn't show up much at the end that it's better if you don't have them, of course. Now with the interior petals, you're probably noticed that I started on the smaller end. And now that I'm on the bigger petals, I'm on the thicker end of this paintbrush, but it really doesn't matter too much and you'll be able to use your healing tool or the tweezers to really roll those parts tightly. If you have something that's all the same thickness, it's not going to matter too much. When you get to this center part, just do your best to kind of roll these around like this, the outer parts. It's gonna be a little hard to do because of this center base area, but just do your best. All right, So everything is pretty well limbered up. Now we're going to start right here. This is where you're willing tool can work really well. So I'm gonna grab my tweezers or this. I'm just going to hold this right in here. A twisted around. And sometimes you start with a flattened area like this. I use my tweezers to just squeeze that so it's rounded. Then once you get the start, you can just do it by hand. After that. Some of your pills are going to look kind of flat, so I'd like to squash them like this so that it kind of rounds out the area. Now I'm getting to a point where I can just quickly roll this up. Your template is going to want to fold on itself. But you can just keep it from doing that. And I'm trying to roll it at first really, really tightly. My bottom looks like this right now. Then once we get toward the end, your flower or probably be rolled too tight or the base. And that's just fine. If I let go, tap it, it's going to unroll. The petals are catching on each other. And that's normal too. We end up with something like this at first. Now, I usually role in unroll these a few different times until I get something I like. Right now these are kind of caught on each other. The part that is the hardest to get right is that center part. I want to get that exactly right and then we'll glue it. I also like to roll the inner petals like this to a little bit in and out. All right, I just plugged in my glue gun and I'm going to start rolling this from the center. I'm gonna get this exactly like I wanted. This might mean unfolding this part a few times and redoing it. Because this is the hardest part in my opinion of making a rolled paper flower is this center area. Let me start over. Now. I'm liking how that's looking right there. So I'm gonna do a few more little roles. That looks good. And then I'm going to glue it right back here. I'll just put a little spot of glue. Then we're ready to continue. Now I can kind of quick and my pace a little bit roll this backup. We're looking pretty good. We can also loosen as we go. If we wanted to be a little bit looser role so that it'll fill up most of the base of this flower and be a little bit larger to, we can roll a little bit looser. And I also like to bend these out a little bit as I go. Loosen that up and continue on. Now one thing I don't like it when they all line up like this, you have a ton of petals in each direction. It's a good idea to just loosen it up to get them to not line up so well. Also going to do that here. Now we're nearing the end. Now some of these parts around here are going to be stuck on the next petal over. But I think this is looking really nice right here. So I'm going to hold it from the middle and just start to move these out. Kind of lumber them out like a normal flower would be. Now we can take everything but at the very bottom layer and turn it in so that we get a little more tightness. Kind of squish it with my hands so I can get the look. I went and I think it's time to glue, so I'm going to hold it right here. I'm going to glue, tighten it just a little bit. Okay. I'm gonna glue from right here. I like to put just one line across here, one line here. Then attach it like this. Now, I'm going to go ahead and fold these out like this. Just kind of fold things around until you get something you like. Now if you're not liking some of these, these out here, I'm not really crazy about don't be afraid to just take them off. It's really easy to just rip those little pieces off. I think I'll keep that one, but these over here, I'm going to just remove these all the way to here. Maybe that one too. All right, and that's looking pretty good. All right, so our first flower is complete. 12. Flower 2 Uploading and cutting : Okay, now with this second flower, I'm going to make it smaller, which makes it a little harder to work with, but the process of creating it is exactly the same. Okay, so I've opened curricular design space and I'm just going to go ahead and make a new project. I'll come down here to upload. And then I'm going to upload image. And I'll choose Browse. Then I'll navigate to my downloads here in my exercise files. And this time I'll navigate to my flower to dot SVG in the exercise files and I'll open that. This looks good, so I'll upload. Now I'll click on that and we'll be able to see the little icon right down here. And I'll add to Canvas. I'll make sure that I'm clicked on my file so that I see these four controls. I can also see the size. I want this to be about 5.5 inches wide. So I'm gonna get down here on the scale tool. And usually your little lock right up here on size will be locked. And that's what we want because we want it to size proportionally. So make sure that it's locked. If it's not, if it isn't, you can just click it to make sure it's an unlocked position. Now I'm going to click and drag until this is about 5.5 inches wide. That looks good. It doesn't have to be perfect. But of course, if we want it to be exactly 5.5, we can get in here and type it in and then hit Return or Enter. Okay, So this is looking good. Now I'll make sure that my machine is on and open and it's connected my computer the way it should be. Also, I want to make sure that this is set to card stock. Next, we'll load the mat. I'll put the card sac at 00 on my mat like we did before. Then I'll press it on there with my hands. Next, I'll load it into my machine. I'll use these two little tabs and put it right up against the roller. Then hit the load button on my machine right here. Then I'll come back to cricket designers face and choose Make it. I'll change my material size to 8.5 by 11. This looks good. And then I'll continue. This time. My machine connected right away and it's asking me to change the base material to card stock, which I've already done. I've already loaded my material this time, and now all I have to do is press Go. And that's this flashing button right here. So I'll press it. Alright, so my machine has finished. So I'll hit the Download button to release the mat. 13. Flower 2 Rolling and Gluing: Okay, Our next step is to take our scraper tool and start removing the outer card stock. Doesn't look like I really need my scraper tool for much. I can just peel this off. And it just feels right off nicely. That is pretty sweet. Little bit stuck on there. There. Now I'll use my scrubber tool to get the actual flower template off of the mat. We want to do the same thing we did on the other one. You want to keep your tool more on the inside of the template instead of out here like this because we go out here, you're going to run into this where you almost cut this or maybe you do accidentally rip it, that would not be good. This is much smaller, so I want to be even more careful. Now I'm going to start rolling this one into. I'm rolling it towards the center from the outside. And I'm just going to speed up most of the video because I already covered this in the first row flower we did. Now once we get toward the middle here, it gets a little harder to roll these around. Just do your best. Kind of bend that right there. That's probably not good, but it probably won't hurt either. Now we're ready to start rolling this out from the center as a flower. So I'm going to use my tweezers and I'll just hold onto this tightly, tightly roll it. My tweezers are actually a little too big for this part, so I'm gonna just do it by hand. This is pretty hard to do because it's so small. But now that I've got it started is going much more quickly. Here's what we've got. Now I'm gonna go ahead and just pulled out our edges. This Lara doesn't want to line up like the other one did. The petals lining up in order. So that's kinda nice. And this flower also doesn't catch on itself like the other one did. This one and actually I think we're good to go. I don't need to enroll, enroll it more. I think it looks really nice as it is. I'm gonna go ahead and glue this. I've got my hot glue gun warmed up. I'm just going to turn this over. I'll go just one time across the base like this. Then press this down. And that's it. Our little flower is done. And here's the underside. 14. Flower 3 Uploading and cutting : Now let's do the third flower. And the process for this one is going to be pretty much exactly the same as flower one and flower to. I'm back in design space and I've still got this one on my screen. So I'm gonna click this and just hit Delete on my keyboard. Now we'll upload template number three. I'll come up here to upload image. I'll click Browse, navigate to flour three dot SVG in my downloads. So just as a reminder, this is an exercise files, flowers separate and then SVG. And then you'll see the third flower here. I'll open. Alright, I'll go ahead and upload this. Now. I'll click on it. I'll make sure it's right down here. And I'll choose Add to Canvas. I'm going to go ahead and make this one quite a bit bigger. I'll make sure it's clicked. And I had these four little controls here. Then I'm going to change my width to 8.5. And I'll hit Enter or Return. Now if that stretched it, you'll want to undo with Command Z or Control Z, then make sure this little lock is a locked lock and not unlocked like that. You can just click it to lock and unlock. I'm gonna move this one all the way up into the corner like this. And then I'll choose, make it for material size. I'll choose 8.5 by 11. And this time it automatically rotate itself so that it'll fit on a regular page. This time I'll load my mat with blue paper. I'm going to put it right up here like before, as zeros 0. So it'll be right on the edge of that little square that's already there. I'll make sure it's straight and I'll just press it onto the mat. Now we're ready to go. So I'm gonna put this in my machine. I'll go ahead and open my machine. By the way, I'll use these two tabs and put it right in there and then push it up against the rollers right here. Then I'll hit the load button. Now back in cricket design space, I'll come down here to continue. I'll make sure our base material is set to card stock and that everything is loaded like it should be. And now all we have to do is press the flashing cricket button to go ahead and cut the template. All right, Now our cut is done so we can go ahead and unload the mat using this button right here with the double arrows. And we'll click Done over here on cricket design space. 15. Flower 3 Rolling and Gluing: Okay, so now I've got my scraper tool and I'm just going to start removing the card stock from the outside. This one is behaving a lot like the one we just did. It seems to just pull away from it pretty good. I don't have to use the scraper tool very much at this point. Now here it broke, which is fine because it's not part of the actual template that broke. It's the inside here, but I'm going to go ahead and use my scraper to start peeling this part off. I want to make sure to keep the bulk of my scraper on the inside and not the outside, as I mentioned before. Now this one is so close to the edge that you're probably going to have breakage on the part that's not your template. Just be careful with it. You don't want to actually break the template itself. Here we go. Then I've got this leftover stuff on my mat and I'll just scrape that off with my scraper. All right, now like our other two templates, we're going to want to roll from the outside in. So I'm gonna start out here like this. Got a little piece of card stock here. Then we take off. And I'm going to do the same exact process that we've done with the other two flowers. Just rolling these so they get a little more limbered up. Basically that will help them to behave better when we roll the whole thing. And I'll go ahead and speed up the video. Now this flower we're going to try to glue with Elmer's glue. I can show you that process. It's very similar. You just have to hold down the part of that you're gluing quite a lot longer than hot glue, of course. Here at the end, try to do the best that you can. Now we'll start with our cooling tool to wrap these very tightly. When a kind of squish this in, get it even more limited. Then start the rolling process. Then once we get going, we can kind of pick up speed. You can see in the middle here that we've got kind of a big hole. And I want to make that smaller when we wrote the second time. Now, that's looking great for you. You can actually just glue it your first time if you're happy with how the middle looks. But usually the middle is the part that causes problems for me. So I'm gonna go ahead and rewrite all this after I get it done and just see if we can get that fixed. Now I'm going to start bending the leaves out this way. You can do this with your rolling tool if you want to kind of tap it to get it to spread out a little bit more. I usually leave the innermost ones kind of straight up and down because that's really how a flower is in real life. I'm not going to fold all of these out. That we've already got a good start on this one. As you can see, me get in here and get some of these ones that are a little closer to the center. That's probably a pretty good. Now I'm going to enroll and start over again. Especially this inner part is what I want to focus on this time. I wanted to just make sure it's very tight in here. Now this part is so tight now and I'm gonna go ahead and glue that with my Elmer's glue. This glowing that part on there like that. Now I'll wait until that's dry. We just want it to hold so however long that takes. And now it's pretty dry, so I'm gonna go ahead and continue to roll out from here. This is looking pretty good to me, so I'm gonna go ahead and glue it now too. I'll just glue all along the bottom there. Will need to wait for that to set. All right, that looks pretty good. So now I'm going to continue rolling. We're all rolled up now. I'm just going to tap this a little bit to enroll it. Now I think we're good to go to glue this. I'm going to put this over here. I'll use my Elmer's glue and I usually go all the way across like this. Then across like this too. So you'll make a cross on the back. Then. Add your base. I just hold it until it sets well enough. You probably don't have to hold it until it completely dries, but definitely you'll want to set once it's set enough to let go up, I would just let it sit there for about 15 minutes so you know, it's completely dry before manipulating some of your petals and that kind of thing. It's been about 15 minutes and this should be completely dry. Now, I'm gonna start just suggesting the petals so they look a little more natural. I think I'm going to remove these three. They don't look quite right. So I'm going to tear this off. Now. I think our flower is complete. 16. Completed Flowers: Okay, So here are the three flowers we made in this class. The first, the second, and that one's pretty small compared to the others. Then the third flower. 17. Project Inspiration: Now that you have your flowers created, how can you use this in a project? A good place to look for inspiration is Pinterest.com. Now of course, these Pinterest ideas are just for inspiration. You went to take maybe the idea of it and then change it up so it's something different for you specifically. Definitely make it your own. Alright, so I'm gonna come out here to pinterest.com. If you don't have a Pinterest account, you'll want to go ahead and create one. It'll just be a normal sign-up form like you did for the cricket ID. And you'll probably have to verify your e-mail. But once you're in here, you can click on the little search icon and then type in rolled paper flower project. When you do that and scroll down, you can see a lot of different ideas. I'm really liking the farmhouse sign right here. Here's another interesting way. They use them a little greeting card. These are macrons, but they had the little road flowers right here. You can make a wreath just like this one. Here's a shadow box that has burst stats. That's an interesting idea. This one over here, it looks like another greeting card, but you could make a poster. Here's another shadow box here. Shadow boxes are a really common project to make with your road flowers. So Pinterest is a really good source for inspiration and just project ideas and that kind of thing. I think the most popular project that I see out there is the shadow box like this on here. 18. Class Project: All right, Now it's time for your project. I'd like you to create the three flowers that we went over in this class. Take a picture of them and then upload them into the project section. And yours will probably look a little different than mine. Every time I make these flowers, they come out a little bit differently. That's totally normal. If you want to get a little more creative with it, try a rolled paper flower project. Something maybe that you saw on Pinterest and you wanted to try to give you your own spin to maybe a shadow box or a little banner or something like that. Alright, I can't wait to see what you create. 19. 3H Review Request and Thank You: Alright, I hope you've enjoyed this class and I hope you've learned how to use your cricket machine a little better and how everything works with it. If you get a moment, could you please leave mirror review? Reviews are so helpful for me. They helped me to know when I'm doing right and wrong and any improvements I can make. Also, if you have suggestions for future classes or anything you'd like to learn about, you can leave that in a review and I'll absolutely read it. Alright, I hope to see you in the next class. Thank you.
