2. Resources: You can download all the majors, brushes and mood boards, everything in the resource
section for your reference. Just go download them and do not use it for any
commercial purpose, but it's free to
use for practice.
3. Materials required: In order to create an illustration with
the procreate app, you will need the
following materials. An iPad procreate is an iOS app, and it can be used
when live with iPad. To use Procreate, you
will need an iPad with at least iOS 11.1 or later. The Procreate app. Procreate app can be downloaded from the App Store on your iPad. It's a paid app, currently
priced at around $10. And Apple Pencil procreate is designed to be used
with an Apple pencil, which is your stylus, specifically made for
use with the iPad. With an Apple pencil, you can achieve
greater precision and control when working on
your desk in the market. And so many YouTubers have
been reviewed those pencils. But I prefer Apple Pencil is the best for achieving best results. Next thing is a place
to save your files, procreate saves the files
with different extensions, whichever you prefer to choose. Jpeg, PSD format, not SVG, PNG format, GIF format. You can also make animated
videos out of it. I usually store them
that my Google Drive. You can also store
them in iCloud dropbox or your own iPad
memory. It's up to you. It will be useful for
you for the backup, for sharing and collaboration. Although these are the
main materials that you will need to get started
with the Procreate. You may also want to consider purchasing
additional brushes or other asset packs from the
app store or other sources. These can provide you with new and different tools
to experiment with, giving you more options for
creating your illustrations.
4. Basics: The Procreate app
provides a wide range of tools for creating
digital artwork, including brushes, pencils,
markers, and more. Here are some of the
basic concepts and features of the app that
you can use to start with. So first, I'm just clicking the icon here, procreate icon. Once we kick in, we get into the gallery
view of the app, we can find all the
can was us that we have currently in
progress or it's done. Or you can create
a new canvas here. You can input and file here. You can stop the files
into a single folder here, it's super friendly,
user-friendly, and it's very simple to use. When the top of the, top of the canvas we
have a small plus icon. This will help us to
create a new Canvas. There are also some
predefined canvas sizes. But in case if you want
to create a new one, you can do that by just
clicking the plus icon. When they open, we have some control board
and the top where we have so many tools just
going from right to left. So first thing is color. Procreate provides a variety
of ways to work with colors, including a color picker, a color wheel, a color palette. You can also use the eyedropper tool to sample
colors from the canvas. This is super handy and
I love the palette here, so we can save so many pallets
that we regularly use. You can also copy the color
code and paste it over here under the
subcategory value. This will allow you to copy the color and also
to paste the color. Next thing is layers procreate allows you to work
on multiple layers, which can be rearranged to merge and adjusted individually. This allows you to separate different elements
of your artwork, such as background, foreground and different
colors and texture. And just showing you
a small example over here and filling one
layer with some color. And I'm doing a leafy
structure in another layer. So when you are
trying to delete or give particular highlight
to one particular layer. Or you wanted to do he wanted to change the color of this
particular leaf alone. This separation of the
layers will help you. You can just click hue and saturation and change the
color of the leaf alone. This is super handy
and super helpful. You can also delete the layer, duplicate the layers,
lock the layers. There are so many
other features also, but for the basic thing, if this is enough, next thing is brushes. Procreate comes with a
variety of building brushes, including pens, markers,
pencils, and add brushes. Each brush as its own set of properties such as size,
opacity, and texture. You can also customize and
create your own brushes. You can name the brush and
you can have a signature. You have created the brush. You can start making new brushes and selling
them in Etsy or any other gum road
or any other places where so many people are
selling brushes now. Next thing is
navigation and zooming. Procreate has a
customizable toolbar located at the top
of the Canvas. It gives you access to
various tools and options, although you can use the two
fingers to pinch gesture on the canvas to zoom in and
zoom out and pan around. Time-lapse video
can be recorded. If you switch on in
the setting button, I will be showing
how to deal with the time-lapse video at
the end of this video, once we finish the painting. One last technique
that I will be teaching here is Alpha Lock, clipping mask and all. So here I'm making a rough circle and
dropping in some color. Now, if I want to add texture
to this particular circle, I'm choosing a texture
brush and a darker color. Then I apply the texture brush. The texture is getting
applied outside circle. We have to be very
cautious if it has to get applied one
lead within the circle. Now for this, we have a
solution called Alpha Lock. When you click on the image, you will get some options. Click Alpha Lock and
create a new layer. And clipping mask
will enable you to add texture to within
the circle alone. For any shape, you can use this. So this is how we have to, we are going to work in
this particular video, in this particular session. You can also do this
in the same layer, but I prefer working in
different layers for textures. So that if you want to reduce the opacity or change the
colors, it's very useful. These are some of the
techniques and basics of procreate that you
can use to get started with practice
and experimentation, you will be able to discover more advanced features and techniques to enhance
your digital artwork. Let's get into the session.
5. Choosing reference: Choosing a reference image
for illustrating can be a key step in the process of creating a digital illustration. Pinterest is a great platform
to find inspiration, references, or even just an idea for your
next illustration. Here are a few
tips for selecting a reference image of a girl for illustrating
on Pinterest. Search for relevant keywords. Use keywords related to the
image you are looking for, such as good illustration of female card character reference or female character study,
something like that. Look for high-quality images. Images that are clear
and well light, that good composition
and details. High-quality images will make it easier to see the details
and features of the good, which will help you when
creating your illustration. Look for multiple angles. Try to find references that show the girls from
different angles. This will give you a
better understanding of the subjects
proportion and features, which will be useful, useful when you're creating
your illustration. Look for references
of different ages. If you are looking to create an illustration of a
specific age group, make sure to search
for references that match the age of
your illustration. Think about the style
of your illustration. Make sure to choose
the references that match the style
of your illustration. The more stylized
illustration is, the more it's
important to choose references that fits the
style you want to achieve. Also, do not copy any illustration work that has been done by other artists. Tried to create your own just by taking inspiration from
other illustrations. But when you are in
the learning phase, it is okay to copy other illustrations
from different artists. If you're shouting
in the social media, just try to give them proper credit so that
you will not be facing any Copyrights issue or
getting into trouble. By following these steps, you should be able to find
high-quality reference images on Pinterest that will help you create a beautiful
illustration. Keep in mind that quality and variety of fields for
reference images you choose can play a big role in the final outcome of
your illustration. So choose them wisely. Let's get into the next session.
6. Color palette: Choosing a color scheme
for illustration can be an important step
in the design process, as color can play a big role in setting the mood
and tone of the piece. For a flat style illustration, a limited color palette can be a good way to create a
cohesive and unified look. Here are the few
tips for selecting your color scheme for a flat style illustration
on Pinterest, search for relevant keywords. Use keywords related to the
skin you are looking for, such as flat design
color palette or minimal color palette or tropical color palette,
something like that. Look for inspiration
in the nature. Nature often provides
a wide range of beautiful color combination that can be used in the illustration. Look for combination of
colors in the same family. For a flat illustration, it's best to use
colors that are in the same color family
or close to it. This creates a harmonious
feel to the illustration. Experiment with the
different color palettes. Don't be afraid to try
different color pallets. You can use the color picker
to extract colors from reference images or use your color wheel to create
a harmonious color schemes. Use Pinterest building
color swatch features. This feature allows you to search for pens based
on a specific color. This feature can
be a great way to discover new color
palettes and inspiration. By following these tips, you should be able to find a range of different
color schemes on Pinterest that will work well for your
illustration type. So take your time to
experiment and find the right one that best
your illustration type. So in the next session, we'll see how to
create mood boards and how to set the color
palette in Procreate.
7. Moodboard: As discussed earlier,
I have already chosen the images that I'm going
to use for my illustration. So I got one for my prop
and one for the Porsche. So these are the two images that I have chosen
for the drawing, coming to the colors,
I have some color, but I've got some color
palette from Pinterest. I liked them so much. So you can also attaching few other color pallets in the resource section
for you guys, which I have got from Pinterest. You can also find your
own color palette, like set them so that you can like No enjoy
while you paint. You will have to set the
white before you start. Now, before setting up the color palette in my
colors in the control bar, I'm starting with the rough
sketch using my illustration, using the photograph
that I have chosen. So it's not like placing
when you are a beginner, it's a very good practice to
start with stick figures. Started making stick figures
on top of the E majors. And gradually as days go, you will just draw it very fluently without any reference. And this was very helpful
when I was starting. And even now, I don't follow
this particular technique. I just do it. Having a
reference in the side. It's a very easy and
it's very good to study the posture and proportion of
the head body, everything. Now I'm going to do the similar stick figure
for the foot the property also because few people I'm not telling about every when few people may not be
good with sketching. So for them, it, this particular practice
will be so helpful. Maybe you will be interested
more in coloring, but you are born in sketching. If you practice this
particular technique, you will be so, so good in illustrating
so many things. You can follow this
particular technique for many other things like houses or animals or any
bulge or anything. This is super easy and
it will help you and I'm very good way to
grow you as an artist. So now I made these boats
sketches in different layers and I'm combining them into a single layer, distinct
the proportion. Now we got a one solid lady sitting on the sofa
with a mug in her hand. Now, I'm also making a rough structure of how the
illustration is going to be. Not very fair or this
is not a final sketch. A storyboard. Do it very roughly, no need for so much
of detailing and all. Do the basic shapes
using circles, lines. That's more than enough, we can build them later. I'm also doing the
windows and stuffs. I'm going to have the same lamp, same lump in the right
side of the canvas. And you have, you can
replace the land. You can have frames
in the background. You can have a bookshelf instead of a lamp. It's up to you. That's why I said,
create the byte, get the images from Pinterest clubbing
to our illustration. So I always loved making so many things
into my illustration. So I prefer to add
the bookshelf, but it will be a lengthy video. So I just added a land
here instead of bookshelf. Now we are done with the sketch. Let's see how to develop them. Now, let's start
with the colors. I'm going to block in these
colors into my palette. So in the palette, I'm going to create a new
pallet and name them as Boko. You can create and name
it as you, as you like. And since it is like
Boohoo is kind of style, I thought I can use that for
my other any other projects. Also, I'm naming it as Bobo. I'm going to save one
liter of colors and the top others or just
use unsaturation, which we can also do
according to the painting. This will allow view to keep and consistency
overall the painting. Also try to stick into the color palette near profile
to maintain a consistency. Maintaining the consistency with the color palette will help the account to grow and they're going to
look very pleasant. So please let me know
if you are doing this particular
technique to grow your account or
make it look good. So without anymore delay, let's get into the sketching.
8. Sketching 1: I'm just reducing the
opacity of the layer that we have made from the mood board in
our last session. And now I'm choosing
the reference image under Canvas as our
posture in age, which we have chosen
in the mood board. Now keeping this will help you to do the
detailing and dotplot properly using the sketch
brush from my brush category. So I'm reducing the opacity of the layer which I'm
going to draw also. Now, starting off with the face, I'm marking the line
of nodes and eyes. This will help me to get
the angle of the face. Now increasing the size
of the face so as to give a cute illustration style
to my entire illustration. Continuing with the hands
and other parts of the body. Also. The sketches need not to be neat naught
to be very fair. It can have a very
rough or freestyle. Actually these crippling
lines is going to give a nice look or nice
finishing your painting. You're not going to delete them. We are going to keep them here. Do not concentrate
about fingers and all. Now the order, anyhow, we're going to redefine
the sketch one more time. Oh, when you're
drawing the hands, right to get the same size
as the other hand is off. Like one hand should
not be lengthier, 1.1 hand should not
be shorter one. So try to maintain the
consistency would all proportion. Now let's start adding
in some detail to the face and starting
with the hair. It's not like we have to
draw hair and the outer, outer layer of the circle, just starting it
within the half, upper half of the circle. So try to follow the same style of
hairstyle that she had. Or you can choose if you
find the reference have any difficult hairstyle for your level of painting
or sketching, maybe you can choose
something simpler also some other reference
with some other Heston. Maybe if you'd like
some hairstyle of yours or you can
try it out here. Since it's so fascinating, I just made a rough
bunny has done. She's not exactly
replicating and just trying to include
my own style also here. Now, coming up to the
dress, other stuffs. You can also add in
some photo frames or some other elements in
the top or background. It's completely optional. If you want to try, you can try. Maybe in the class project
you can do something like a different illustrations with
the different properties. Now, I'm merging the
basic sketch layer on the sketch layer
that we have done now and combining it into
a separate single layer. Now, we're going to do the main sketch for this and using outline
and a darker color. We don't want have any
dark color in our palette. You can always choose one of the colors and saturate them. Now, I have another tip for you before starting the sketch, but I do make a
frame or a base for your skin so that we can
have a nice finishing. You can use any
painting brushes from the default gallery to do
the bathroom the painting. So I'm going to show
you how to make a final sketch and coloring
in the upcoming sessions. Let's see in the next video.
9. Sketching 2: Before blocking in
the base colors, I'm making a final sketch on top of the rough sketch
we have already made. Ensure this particular layer, which we are going now should
be on top of technique. Coloring layer should
be under these layers, keeping the reference as the posture image
that we have chosen. You can always follow your
style if you have one, I prefer keeping simple
two dots for eyes, sometimes bigger ones,
sometimes open eyes. So it depends on
my mood. For now. I'm keeping it very simple to simple dots for eyes
and coming to the chin. You can always give
a shape to the chin, but I do not want to
complicate the sketch, so I made a very basic
shape for the chin. Now for the hair gives
some babies structure. Just play with them. Just enjoy while
you're painting. Do not always get
scared to go freestyle, wondering if you are very
confident and do freestyle, you will have one particular,
one, unique style. Just play with it. This is after all, undo and redo is their
layers are there. We can always delete and we can always any
sketches that we make. Even here, I have made a
sketch initially for the face. I was not very satisfied with the one that
I'm making now. So after this particular sketch, I redefined it for the base
colors while doing the hair, try to follow the strokes so that it's very visible that it has drugs when we
do the base colors also. Then for eyes again, two dots for eyebrows. I have a little tiny eyebrows. This particular tiny eyebrows, you can have so many expression we can get using the eyebrows. I will also try to make a
video for expressions alone. For knows, I'm keeping a
very simple structure. But then it's your wish you can always browse and choose yours. Your style of illustration. Now, I am just making lines bolder and
giving some details, two fingers, legs, everything. This video is real time. You can follow along. In case if you have
any doubts or queries, please let me know in
Instagram or to my mail id. Everything is in the
description so that I can get back to you
as soon as possible. Also try to make this outline in any of the darker shades
that we already have. Do not use black colors
to make these outlines. For the leaves do not
go very detailed. Just give us some
shape to the leaf. Any shape, whichever
you like need not these shapes you can do any
shape, whichever you like. I'm also trying to add in
some fruits in the middle. I'm giving some
patterns to this board. You can also do this at the end, but I wanted to give
all the details when, before I block in the colors so that I can keep the coloring
process very simple. This brush which I'm using
now is so good to use and it gives a nice texture
to the sketch itself. So this is our final sketch. And let's see how to
block in the base colors, how to do shadows,
highlights, and everything. In the next session.
10. Adding Details 1: Shading is an important
technique for creating the illusion of depth and
form in an illustration. By adding different levels
of light and shadow, you can give you
an illustration, a sense of dimension
and realism. Here are the few tips for
creating your illustration. Before you start shooting, it's important to understand the direction of light
in your illustration. This will determine where the
highlights and shadows will fall and will help you create a sense of
depth and dimension. In case of our illustration, the girl is sitting just
next to the windows. The right side of her, mostly we'll get the highlights and the left side
will get the shadows. Procreate offers a variety of brushes that can be
used for shading. Each with its own
unique properties. Experiment with a
different brush types to see which one
works best for you. I have also attach the version
that I have used to make shading here for
the illustration in the resource section. Procreate allows you to
work on multiple layers, which can be very
useful for shading. You can create a new layer for each element you
want to share it. And then adjust the opacity
or blending mode of each layer to achieve
the desired effect. E.g. this is the first set of shading that
you're going to do. In the next session, we will be doing another set of shading by using
different blending modes. Shading can take time
and practice to master. So don't be discouraged if your first attempt don't
turn out, as you expect it. Keep practicing and
experimenting with different techniques
until you find the one that works best for you. Also try to concentrate
on smaller illustrations. Rather than starting
out with bigger ones. Steady realized
lighting and shadows. This will help you
understand how light behaves in
different situations. This can be a great way
to improve your shading. I haven't just made the
entire video into expat. So you can reduce the speed or increase the speed and
do it at your own pace. Shading is a powerful
tool that can greatly enhance the realism and
depth of your illustration. By following these steps
and practicing a lot, he will be able to
create illustration with a more professional and
polished look, that theme. The next session on how to add more layers of shading
and highlights using blending modes. That will be so interesting
and so fun to do.
11. Adding details 2: I hope everybody is
following along till now. If you have any queries, please let me know in my
Instagram or through my email. Now, we're going to do
an interesting step. You, what we are going
to do is like we have everything as
separate layers, right? Individual layers. Now, we're going to
select all the layers. Be careful when selecting. You're going to select
all the layers just by swiping right with
your Apple pencil. Now, group them into
one single group. We have a solid group here. Just duplicate the entire
group and flatten them. So we have one
normal image here. On top of this flattened image, we are going to add a layer. And with the same brush, multiply brush, you're going
to do some shadows here. I'm setting the lay
particular layer, blending mode, Multiply. I'm trying to reduce
the opacity of the entire layer and to
see how the shadows works. So depending on
your illustration, you can increase or
decrease the opacity. Dry to think in a way, the windows are located in
the right side of the good. So light source is
from the right side. Do not overdo it
because we already have some kind of shadows to it. You're just going to
enhance the shadows. And don't forget to change the blending mode
to multiply and color of the brush to dark
purple or dark brown. We're almost done
with the shadows. Now it's time to
do the lighting. For lighting, I'm using soft light in another
separate layer. This layer has to be
under the multiply layer and just in-between
multiply layer and the flattened image. Try to give the light
from the light source. So almost all the right
edges will have the lights. Just play with it. This is not a very
realistic illustration. This is like coming out
of our imagination. So do sensibly. I'm also going to add one more light source
to the illustration. This soft light, it gives you a nice kind of very soft light. So if you add overlay, you can also change the yellowish tone that you
have chosen, a lighter color. Now see, it gives kind of morning sunshine or
a bright, some warm look. I'm also trying to put
a shadow like a window. Sunlight that falls
on the floor. We are almost done. Now, what we're going to do, you're just clubbing everything into a single group, flatten it. And it is the extras that
you have outside the margin. These are completely optional. But then they were kind of
bonus tip or something. Now, in fact, we
have gradient map. In the gradient map
you can just reduce the opacity by swiping
left and right. They have some default
gradient maps. You can try applying them
or just change any colors. It changes the entire
vibe of the illustration. You can see when I choose blue, it was like kind
of purplish color. It was cool. Now, I chose what
noir, it was warm. And also adding into
only two percentage of NO is very less
percentage of noise. You can also try adding
half-tones or try some other effects to just
enhance your illustration. Look more beautiful. You can also add any
texture layer if you have. I will also do separate video on how to play with textures. Finally, like putting
in the logo of my page. That's it, we're done. So in the next video, I will show you how to save
the time-lapse and how to save the illustration
into a JPEG image. See you in the next session.
12. Timelapse: In this, I think we
have a shirt button. Under that. We have
so many formats. I'm going to save this as JPEG. You can say this is in
Drive or you can add drop, or you can just
save in your iPad. Now for the time-lapse
next to the share we have Video Export time-lapse. You can just choose
32nd of land, but it's going to be entire
painting in thirty-seconds. I recommend you to download the full version
and just crop it, make reload offered
and just enjoy. It records everything
from the first. I hope everything
is clear for now. If you make any time lapse of your illustration and
boosted it Instagram, do not forget to tag me. I would love to see your videos.
13. Conclusion: By taking this class, you have acquired the
knowledge and resources to create amazing illustrations
that procreate on your iPad. You are now familiar with the basics of
creating mood boards and how to use Procreate feature to bring your
illustrations to life. Additionally, you have received your free brushes and color palette in the
resource section. To make your artwork
even more impressive. With a bit of practice
and determination, you can build a portfolio of your own unique creations and become the Procreate Master. Thank you so much
for taking my class. Let's meet in the next
Skillshare class. Bye-bye.
