Feel free to reference your travel tribe, ultimate and bucket list travel planner to help you organize your thoughts and the coloring pages to help you enjoy the ride. In no particular order. Here are the top locales and activities to add to your bucket list. I had the most fun in Colombia. And with this course, you will too. 2. Colombia Overview: Colombia, this second most diverse country in the world after Brazil. Colombia is known for its fascinating wildlife, delicious and ribose specialty coffee and the kindness of locals. 3. My Experience in Colombia: When I visited Colombia, I was shocked at how much beauty there was on the streets, how delicious the food was, and how nice everyone once I stayed in Airbnb and I was just shocked at the affordable prices, But also how much English is spoken in the Airbnb. Everyone had warned me about how dangerous Colombia was and how awful it would be, how I probably wouldn't come home, I would get kidnapped. Mind you none of that habit. I'm from Chicago originally, so I actually felt more in danger in a quite a few places in the US rather than anywhere in Colombia. Definitely post your questions or send me your comments or thoughts. As I would love to be able to give you more information if you are thinking of heading to Colombia. 4. Wax Palms & Guatape: Wax palm trees near the small town of cell Endo in central Columbia lies a value called Kolkata, which is famed for the enormously gigantic wax palm trees growing there. This type of palm tree can grow up to the height of 60 meters or 200 feet. And it is recognized as the national tree of Columbia because they live around 200 years and there are very few young wax pause to take your place. They have been referred to as living corpses due to the fact that they could easily become extinct during our lifetime. Y dot. Y dot is a tough town, not too far from medecine, complete with cobblestone pathways, decorative XLOCK on us, dozens of colorful houses, square with rainbows steps and tiny restaurants. You need to this town wiped out pays houses and restaurants are covered from head to toe in bright page. And so Carlos, depicting the heritage or business of the family that lives there. Sometimes it's just artistic declaration that no two houses are the same. There's also this massive rock down the road, the aid that my dad ben yard with seven, a 140 steps to the top, leading to a view overlooking the numerous man-made lakes of venule or that they reservoir. 5. Amazing Architecture: Last law has sanctuary on the border between Colombia and Ecuador is last laugh as sanctuary finished in 1949, one of the most awe-inspiring churches on the planet. This extravagant basilica was built inside a canyon. This site eventually became a pilgrimage destination for religious purposes and tourism. As its bridge crosses the dramatic 50 meter dropped down to the bottom of the canyon. A blend of fascinating architecture and skilled artistry. Cossacks, heterozygote. That is an unusual, fantastical looking cottage that lets visitors imagine what it would be like to live inside. An artisanal, a potted plant. Colombian architect, Octavio Mendoza sculpted this 5400 square foot home entirely out of clay, using no other minerals to hold up its two floors. In order for the clean and dry though he simply let it bake in the hot sun, which turned the multiple dry clay into solid and sturdy materials. The artist himself refers to the home is the biggest piece of pottery in the world. There are several rooms, are working kitchen and a dining room. All the furniture is made out of clay as well, with no exceptions. Leah, day labor, home to this clay masterpiece. And a 165 kilometers from Bogota via day labor was founded in 1572 and is characterized by colonial style architecture, a variety of landscapes and water reservoirs. It is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Colombia due to its architecture, museums, traditions, and its inhabitants, and its colonial history. The giant's hand is a gorgeous viewpoint, nearly 5000 feet above sea level, was incredible views over the LA Department. The massive hand is a fitting work of art as the town of gigante is named after the my Tambo Hill, which resembles a giant's face laying down the hand, is part of an exciting new tourism projects to attract visitors to the area. 6. Colombian Cooking Class: A Colombian cooking class. Everyone likes Colombian food. So the tip, top number one recommendation for Colombia would be to take a cooking class. You can learn how much sugar to add to juices to make them perfectly sweet, or how much to smush the plantations. So they're just right and which veggies to search for. So people have a delicious green side dish. I should 3 cooking classes and Columbia and learn so much each different time. I made a salad that has onions, tomatoes, avocados and cilantro and chicken based and garlic and oil. I mean, best potatoes and fried out of a box. I need passion fruit juice and some flavorful beings to go along with the chicken. I wished I could have done it all, but I could barely finish half my plate. I also made sure to take a free walking tour. In order to find free walking tours, Google, free walking tour, Bogota, free walking tour magazine or whichever city you're going to. Because the guides are paid solely by ticks, the tours are typically excellent, fast-paced, and take you to some of the most photogenic places in the city. In metagenome. And should the walking tour of the city and the walking tour of the fruit market, which I have to say has been my favorite walking tour I've ever taken. I tried 16 different fruits, some of which I never even seen before. A delicious smoothie and had a guide to ask questions about each specific one. I left him a really big tip. A cooking classes and free walking tours or free walking fruit tumors are highly recommend it and these will help you to have an authentic experience, but it's full of local food, culture and the flavors. Okay. 7. Gorgona Island: On Golgotha Island, 20 miles off the west coast of Columbia. There are all kinds of fascinating plants and animals, but not quite as breathtaking as the blue unknown. The world's only pure blue reptile, only found on the small Colombian Islands. Little is known about this unique and striking species, but it's elusive behavior has made it particularly difficult for scientists to study its population and their numbers. It is known that the animal is highly threatened as a result of habitat loss and new species on the island. But there are now plans in place to place the rare little moon dude, two breeding program in order to make sure that he doesn't go extinct. 8. Plaza Botero, Medellin: The last book, that ONE, in managing home to 2300 left you as disproportionate are lovable sculptures by one of Latin America's most celebrated artists that Ananda, both arrows pleasurable at that 0 will almost certainly become one of your favorite South American squares as well. Home to curvy ladies, chunky cats, portly Roman soldiers, and chubby men on even chunkier horses. But a nano boat that O has an instantly recognizable style that's popular across the globe. His figures are known for their disproportionate bias and no one is immune devote that o is m. Then women, dogs, cats, even the Mona Lisa available at the boat that our museum and logo that. And all the pieces were donated by both their own himself. 9. Colombian Coffee Fields: Metagenome copy fields. Colombia has some of the best coffee in the world and heading out to the coffee fields to see how the process is done is the tactic and a somewhat wet experience, especially if you go during the rainy season. But the views are jaw dropping nonetheless. I decided to take a Colombian coffee tour. I found that through Airbnb experiences. Now, I don't actually like coffee, so I was a little bit skeptical, but I was surprised at how much fun it was even for non coffee drinkers or to a group went up to the lower entrance of the medicine cable car, the first place in the world to include a cable car in their public transit system, by the way, which it seemed like it was at the very top of the hill. But once we climbed into our seats, we were slow to higher and higher over the beautiful mountains in the city, sprawling in the valley below. It was the most magnificent right above the trees and small windy streets, seeing them from mountaintop to mountaintop and everything in between. What an amazing view at the top of the world. So it seemed, we can see from miles when the cable car was built, it was literally a lifesaver. It helped people get home in one piece. Around five years ago, the top of the mountains and surrounding farmlands. These were super dangerous, sort of like being on the front lines. Everyone had a gun and was either terrified or out for blood. So walking home either from school or from work or if you're just from visiting relatives was described to me as a time where the children would count dead bodies in order to pass the time. Good thing times have changed so much. In just a few years. We got to this famous staircase that it felt like you were walking through a jungle. There was something like 300 steps. And it helps the farmers and the very few tourist who ventured out into this area move from one mountain to another, crossing over a river and the thick vegetation, it felt like we were really in the forest. It was incredibly humid and I was sweating all the way through my clothes. The altitude was getting to me again or rather still. Then I didn't realize how many sets there were until we had to climb back up This Thing, number of steps that we had just climbed down. It's way easier going down by the wind. When you finally make it to the coffee farm. And don't be surprised if it's a super busy place. I thought it would be lonely and boy was I want there were parents, children, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and donkeys. So any donkeys, the owners of the farm gave us special ponchos and they equipped us with giant and brimmed hats and these starting buckets for picking coffee beans. We put on these special clothes and trotted out to the field where the family showed us which tiny red balls of coffee beans were ready to be picked. Our guide brought out some young seedlings that had just a few leaves, and then some bigger plants that had a bunch of leaves. We learned that for every two leaves show one months. Hello phenocopy point. The ones that had 16 to 18 leaves were ready to be planted in the ground. So into nine months of growth, the only grows one type of car B plan with the ways that they prepare it vary so widely that they can make six different types of coffee and one type of tea with this single variety of coffee to get, it was fascinated. They served as the most delicious lunch of traditional seat from this region, usually eaten with tomatoes, avocados every bus, rice and delicious juice from all kinds of fruits that I've never seen before. Again, one of the best meals I'd ever had. The chicken tasted like butter, not cooked in butter, the actual butter itself and gave a whole new meaning to butter chicken. So the beef was falling off the bone and the veggies were solved and savory and the broth was fit with garlic and starships. At the end of the afternoon, we had coffee and then tea made from the coffee beans. Now again, I don't like hockey, but if I did, I would have probably thought that this was best coffee I've ever had. The tea was also very, very fruity. Almost like a raspberry at Apple t is mixed together. It wasn't bitter whatsoever and super tasty. Nobody got any sugar or milk though, quote unquote. That's not how we drink our coffee or tea. And Colombia, Hills were incredibly steep, but the view was totally worth it. My legs were seriously tired after this massive height. But what did experience rate the sourness of my lake stated, but these memories will last a lifetime. 10. Comuna 13: Kimono Tracy in medicine, you, outdoor escalators and vibrant artwork have helped change what was the most dangerous district in the most dangerous city in the world compared to the level of violence and managing from three years ago. The difference is night and day. Throughout the eighties and nineties for Mona Lisa was considered one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in a world run by violent drug trafficking organizations. But things began to change in 2002, when the President launched a controversial rate of the body or the area, killing at least 18 people, and putting the neighborhoods 100 thousand residents in the crossfire, resulting in hundreds of injuries. During the following decade, the government set out to improve access to many of the homes that line these dangerous hills. So in 2011, the government installed a series of outdoor escalators that gave resonance new sound, freedom, and peace. Local artists began to Blyton of their community by painting extensive murals along the walls that tell stories of Columbia and kimono crisis history. The result was the creation of one of the most colorful communities and all of South America, having visited Komodo Teresa in 2019 in this place holds such a special place in my heart. All the people who live there are so kind and so nice and such talented artists and musicians, dancers. This place is unlike any other I have ever been. Okay. 11. Parks, Islands & Tombs: National Park, bordering the Caribbean Sea with access to turquoise waters, scenic hiking trails, speckled rock formation, they don't know, National Park is one of the most picturesque locations in the country. And the last place in the world where the cotton top tamarin lists. San Andreas islands surrounded by the Caribbeans see the island outside. A jaw dropping view and quaint waterfall, but travelers can enjoy while watching to sparkling sunsets. Tiana at nth row tunes, one of the country's most sunny archaeological finds, the seventh century tubes are filled with trapdoors, musty corridors and dizzying tunnels, making this one of the best locations for folks who enjoy a quieter get away rather than one was very large crowds. 12. Cartagena's Old Town: Cut of that hyenas Old Town as one of the oldest Spanish colonial settlements in South America. This historic old town of kinda Hannah is rich with history, culture, and story. Third, check out the old walls, enquire with the vendors about the myriad of tropical fruits being sold on the street. And then pop into the Cathedral, which is right next to one of the most famous art filled alleyways in this city. Cauda equina of the West Indies is a large city, sea port on the northern coast of Columbia. It was founded in 15, 33, and it was named after the Port of Katarina in Spain. Cut into Hannah has a population of over a million people, and it continues to be an economic hub, as well as a popular tourist destination. 13. Cathedral & Castillo: Much of Columbia's wealth stems from salt mining, which makes perfect sense that one of the most beautiful sights to see you would be made out of salt. This domain salt mine is located not far from Bobo doll. And as a standing underground church, league has fields. San Philippe de Barra house was built in 1536. This colonial era castle is located on the top san left arrow. It was expanded in 1650 seven and occupies one of the most strategic locations in the country. 14. Natural Wonders of Colombia: Google mud volcano, popular for its healing when baths. There's active volcano in northern Colombia is this smallest volcano in the country, around 15 meters or 45 feet tall. Visitors can climb into the crater, which can accommodate around 15 people at a time. While bathing in the dense warm mud, tourists can receive massages and then are often directed to the nearby lagoon to rinse off. According to legend, the volcano used to spit fire. Asch's, a lava well that was then turned into mud by a priest who believed it was the devil and sprinkled fully water inside it. Danielle, crease status, commonly referred to as the river of five colors or the liquid rainbow. This river bed is noted for the striking colors visible from July through November, Visitors marvel at the yellows, blues, greens, reds, and black Hughes coming from under the water. It's not magic that makes this river looks so amazing. It's from a specific type of aquatic plant that's different from Moz or algae. And with the right water level and weather, this can make a huge difference and what colors you see. Besides being absolutely gorgeous, the plant is also very sensitive to the conditions at 10, so it's better to go when it's bright and sunny so the light can reflect the colors. Located near Bogota. This 132 meter high a waterfall is located in one of the first areas that was permanently settled in the country around 10000 years ago. Interestingly, during the month of December, the Falls become completely dry. 15. Bogota: Malaria is the main photogenic walkway through Bogota, Colombia. It has some of the most incredible Nero's, the most picturesque shops and the most delicious too. Book which has street art, was amazing. It wasn't quite like kimono today say admitted gene, but it was everywhere and so incredibly beautiful. There were specific artists who were allowed to use the giant neural spaces. And each artists got to highlight certain aspects of life and Golgotha or Columbia, some brought attention to the indigenous roots, while others focused on current events like immigration, hunger, politics, and creating a scene for Columbia. While passing by a beautiful part, I saw that everything had a face and a pair of eyes, or sometimes even three or four eyes, in order to show the troublemakers of the neighborhood that people were watching them. There were all kinds of animals on these murals to half a dog face, next to half a human face, lions and hummingbirds and entire wall of cat characters like Garfield, grumpy cat, Tom and Jerry. At the time that this wall was painted, there was a lamppost right in the middle of the caspases. So the artist painted the lamppost to match and become part of the mural. A few weeks before I took this picture, it was painted over unfortunately, but what a cool idea nonetheless, there was this beautiful street that had tiny shops and adorable cafes. Plenty of individual paintings and glorious murals here too. I wish I had more time. I passed by a bright red door decorated with flowers and leaves, intensely abstract paintings and somewhat tone down murals. But the first glance showed beautiful scenes and smiling people. But in the background there were people being portrayed as puppets, nuns worshiping TVs, small children playing with bombs and guns away to say that things are not always as they appear from the outside. Sometimes the truth is more complicated than what we expect. People are not always Smiley, has a genuine happiness. Now, the Ferdinando built their own museum was my favorite. I just love these disproportionate the paintings and sculptures. There was a massive hand sculpture in the front of the museum modeled after painting. It looked like it was emphasizing the middle finger in the painting was just supposed to be a hand in motion. And this is how the scheme was caught. Pro tip overs and ride shares are incredibly cheap. And South America, I took Ober's everywhere on one of the rides. My driver was super friendly and told me a bit about how people from Bogota never leave bullets out because the city is just so big that you can have the kinds of fun experiences here. Especially the most recent years, Bobo doll has become much safer and much more tourists friendly. So he was glad to hear that I had come to see this beautiful city and fun fact, my 25-minute Uber ride was three US dollars. I also prompted by the Gold Museum. And this is the most popular museum and bolus, OK, and it has over 55 thousand visas and bold and gets 0.5 million visitors per year. Considering tourism is just beginning again in Bogota after the violent past and now COVID, these numbers are quite impressive. I highly enjoyed all the gold jewelry and shadows of people made from a screen with the gold jewelry attached to show where. Might have worn these ornate pieces bogus. Half the capital of Columbia at a city with 8 million people is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves as a tourist destination. While exploring the city, I also saw these groups of men holding small pieces of paper that apparently had emeralds inside them. The Jewels might have been real, but unfortunately, the tourists who are probably buying extremely beautiful and extremely expensive pieces of green glass as providing real emeralds, a highly desired commodity in Colombia, there is an emerald Museum, which is the official emerald shop of Bobo doll. It has real apparently fairly price emeralds and they give a short informative talk to interested tourists. So you don't have to be in the Emerald market to learn a bit about them. Supposedly pressure free. Also, don't miss the local drink that's sort of resembles apple cider. It's fermented with a fizzy texture, but I didn't dislike it. There were also famous energy drinks cold it to Kula. Six of the nine ingredients are corn, coffee, chocolate, cinnamon cloves, chickpeas, and three others that I can't remember. Also had to bully him out of square. And this square there are tourists, locals, and everyone in between, vendors. So in deserts and fried plantings, musicians doing magic tricks and old ladies with baggy coats feeding the pigeons. Here you'll see the Palace of Justice, the building of the guerrilla groups had taken over in 1985. A bit of depressing history for you. During this time, half of the Supreme Court was murdered, somebody extremists and sunlight the Colombian government. The entire square had become a bloodbath and both parties just started shooting at each other carelessly. They won't did dozens of civilians and a tank Drove right through the front door of the building, lowing down everyone in its path. The government did some very shady stuff at the end of the situation because people who were seen leaving the building unharmed or later found inside the building supposedly did have been shot by extremists while they were inside as if they had never left the building at all. The current Palace of Justice is the newest building in this square, as they had to rebuild its entire front entrance in order to preserve the court building and don't help the city move on from this violent tragedy. Don't forget to visit Monsanto, which is a high mountain that's over 1000 feet and conceit all of Bogota from the very tippy top. There is also a church built in the 17th century with a shrine devoted to the fallen Lord at the very top as well. The mountain was considered sacred and pre-Columbian times when it was inhabited by the indigenous folks, we sketch. It is also a pilgrimage destination and a major tourist attraction. The only way to get there is by funicular or by climbing. Do bring your walking shoes. 10000 feet is a long way up. 16. Conclusion: All in all, I was sad that I left Bogota, Colombia, but thrilled to learn just how wrong I was about Colombia. I went by myself, so it wasn't a little nervous. You really can't assume what a country is like if you haven't been there yourself or spoken to someone who was there in the last year or so. You know what they say about when you assume something countries changed and our negative assumptions should change with that. 17.
