1. Introduction: If you've ever spent more
time talking about your art, instead of making it,
you're not alone. Hi, I'm Bella. An Illustrator and
surface pattern designer making art in the
margins of motherhood. Over the past few years, I've partnered with amazing
brands like Adobe and built a thriving art business all while staying home with
two little ones by my side. Like many artists, I know what it's like to juggle
1 million tasks, the admin, the planning, the marketing on top
of your creative work. That's why ChatGPT has been
such a game changer for me. I've discovered dozens
of ways to use it as a creative partner and
business assistant. Helping me brainstorm faster, write with ease, plan
more strategically, and market my work
with confidence. In short, it clears through
the mental clutter, so I can spend more time
doing the thing that I love most creating in this class, I'll share my favorite
workflows for artists. How to write better prompts, use ChatGPT for idea generation
and writing support, streamline business tasks and make marketing less stressful. You'll also learn what
ChatGPT can and can't do. Your class project will be to create your own prompt Playbook. A library of prompts tailored
to your creative goals. By the end, you'll have
practical tools that fit into your workflow
and the confidence to collaborate with ChatGPT as a creative partner and not
something to be afraid of. So grab your iPad or computer, open ChatGPT, and
let's get started.
2. Class Project Overview: I'm so glad you decided to
jump in and join my class. In this lesson, we're talking
about the class project, creating your very
own prompt Playbook. This will be a
personalized library of Chachi BT prompts
that you can copy, paste, and use again and again
in your creative business. I chose this class project
because having ready to use prompts saves so much
time and mental energy. Instead of staring
at a blank page or not knowing what to write, you can have prompts
that are specifically tailored to your art practice. And don't worry if
you're a beginner, we'll go through step by
step throughout each lesson. As far as supplies, all
you need is a notebook, sketchbook, iPad, or computer
for jotting things down, Internet access and
a ChatGPT account, a digital document like
Google Docs or Notion, where you can store
your prompt Playbook. To make it even easier, I've also created some
downloadable resources for you. A dos and don'ts guide for
using ChatGPT effectively, a set of sample prompts you can customize and a big list of 150 ways to use ChatGPT as an artist or
creative entrepreneur. My biggest tip before we
start is to be specific. The more details
you give ChatGPT, the better your results will be. Don't be afraid to experiment
or tweak your prompts. This whole class is about learning what works
best for you. By the end of this class, you'll have your own prompt Playbook, a reusable resource designed
to help you brainstorm, write, plan, market, and
grow your creative business. I can't wait to see
the prompts you come up with. Let's get started.
3. ChatGPT Basics: Hello. In this lesson, we're going to talk
about what ChatGPT actually is and what
it can and cannot do. Simply put ChatGPT is an
AI model trained on text. It helps with ideation, writing, and problem solving. The main reason I
like ChatGPT is because it can save me
time on admin tasks, so I can spend more
time making art. Another reason I like ChatGPT is because it really
helps me brainstorm. It helps me come up with ideas that I wouldn't
think of on my own. And when I'm in a rut, it helps me to get unstuck. So what can Chad GBT do for you? A lot. It can
brainstorm and date. Names, themes, prompts, color
palettes, content ideas. Write and refined
text, captions, emails, bios, product
descriptions, newsletters. Plan and organize
content calendars, launch checklists,
schedules, event ideas. Summarize and simplify. Take a big messy
idea and make it concise and clear.
Teach and explain. Break down marketing terms, art styles or
pricing strategies. Inspire creativity. Act as a jumping off
point when you're stuck. But maybe just as important, here's what Chi GBT cannot do. It won't replace your
creative voice or style. It can suggest ideas, but it won't sound uniquely
you unless you customize. It doesn't generate
original artwork. This tool works with text, not images, at least what we teach and support
in this class. It can't guarantee accuracy. Sometimes it makes mistakes
or shares outdated info. It can't read your mind. You have to give it context. Vague prompts equal
vague answers. It won't make creative
choices for you. Think of it as a
helper, not the artist. You're still the
one deciding what to keep, change, or toss. And it's not safe
for sensitive data. Never share private
financial info, passwords or
confidential details. The best way to think of ChatGPT is like a studio assistant. It can hand you the brushes,
organize your paints, and even suggest some ideas, but it cannot paint the picture. That is your job as the artist. Now that we know what
ChatGPT can and can't do, let's move on to
the next lesson, where we go over
ChatGPT anatomy.
4. Anatomy of ChatGPT: Now that you know what ChatGPT is and what it can and can't do, let's take a quick tour
of the app itself. Whether you're on a
computer or phone, the layout is really simple. By the end of this
lesson, you'll feel confident in navigating
the platform. First, let's start with
the computer version. On the left side bar,
you'll see a few icons. The logo opens up the sidebar
to show full navigation. Here's the new chat, chat history or search,
and image library. I do not use the image library and we will not talk
about it in this class. Moving down on the left,
you can see your projects, create new ones, and
see your chat history. You can always revisit old chats just by
clicking on them. The main chat window
is front and center. This is where you
type your prompts and where ChatGPT replies. You can type right into the
box and press Enter descend. Also, quick tip pressing
Shift plus Enter, we'll let you keep typing
a response on a new line. Here on the bottom, you can see my account name with
the option to upgrade. Along the top of the window, you will see more
upgrading options or switching between models. I have always used
the free plan. Also, once you start a chat, you have an option
to share a link to the chat in the
top right corner. On the phone, things look
a little bit different, but the basics are
still the same. Your chat history and
settings are usually tucked behind a menu
icon in the corner. Your main screen is
your conversation. The prompt bar is at the
bottom, just like texting. Type your question, hit
send, and you're good to go. Depending on your version, you may also see extras like voice input or quick
action suggestions. You can organize
prompts by copying them into a Google
Doc or Notion, so you don't lose
your favorites. Throughout the class, I will remind you to save
your favorites. This will be your
prompt Playbook, like we talked about
in the last lesson. That's the basic
anatomy of ChatGPT. Nothing too complicated, but it helps to know
what the layout is, so you don't spend
time clicking around, and you're able to work on using it as a creative sidekick. Now in the next lesson, we're going to go over how
to actually talk to ChatGPT so that you can get
personalized responses.
5. Building A Foundation with ChatGPT: Now that you know your
way around ChatGPT, let's talk about building
a strong foundation. The way you introduce
yourself and interact with the app makes a huge difference in the quality of
responses you'll get. Think of it like meeting
that new studio assistant. You wouldn't just hand them
a paintbrush and walk away. You'd tell them about
your art style, your processes, and let them
know how they can help. The same is true here. To get the most out of ChaGBT, start by introducing yourself. You don't want to share personal details or private information, but you do want to give AI enough information so that
it knows who it's helping. Share who you are, what you do, your art style, and your goals. For example, you might say, I'm a digital illustrator who creates playful and
colorful art for children. My values are authenticity
and kindness. I saw prints in an Etsy shop
called Poppy and Pencil. I want to grow my
Instagram audience and reach more potential buyers. Can you help me
come up with long term social media strategy? That way, ChatGPT has a clear picture of your
creative identity and goals, and it can tailor its responses to fit your creative journey. Beyond introductions, here are a few best practices
when talking to ChatGPT. Be specific. The more
context you give, the better the response. Treat it like a conversation. Use follow up prompts instead
of one done questions. Ask for multiple options so
you can choose the best fit. Edit until it feels
like your voice. And don't copy paste blindly. Always customize the output
to match your tone and brand. It's also helpful to give
feedback to ChatGPT as you go. If you like something, say so. If you don't it why. For example, you might say, This is a little too formal. Can we make it more playful? The back and forth is where the real magic of
ChatGPT happens. Let me show you a quick
demo. Here's a vague prompt. Help me with social media
for my art business. The answer will be very general. But if I add context about
who I am, my art style, and my goals, the response becomes much more
tailored and useful. This is why giving ChatGPT a strong foundation
is so powerful. So remember, the
more you put into ChatGPT, the more
you'll get out. Introduce yourself,
give context, and use it as a
collaborative partner. Now, in the next lesson, we're going to talk
about our first topic using ChatGPT for marketing.
6. Chat GPT for Marketing: Now that you know the basics, let's jump into some
specific use cases. One of my favorite
ways to use ChatGPT in my art business is to
help with admin tasks, like writing newsletters,
content planning and creation, and writing various bios. I frequently ask if for social media trends I can
jump on caption help, product launch plans,
email subject line ideas, shot lists for B role, and even how I can
repurpose my content. In this lesson, I'll be using the example of writing
newsletters with ChatGPT. The goal is to make them faster, easier and more effective without losing
your unique voice. I'm going to show you two
different strategies. The first technique
involves Chachi BT writing the first draft
of an email for you, then adding your
own personal flare. The key here is to give ChatGPT
a good amount of context. You want to tell it who you are, what you're trying to sell, and what the goal of the email is. The more details you give, the better the results will be. Here's an example
prompt you could use. I'm a digital illustrator
who creates playful, colorful art for kids. I saw prints in my Etsy shop
called Poppy and Pencil. I want to write a
newsletter announcing my new summer collection
launching on May 2. It is filled with sunny
beaches and sea animals. I also want to give
email subscribers a special discount code. Please write a warm
and friendly email that excites readers to
check out the collection. Now ChatGPT has written
me a full email draft. Some of the parts are good, like the inviting and
welcoming opening line. But some of the
parts are a little formal or not exactly
what I want yet. That's totally
fine. The point of this strategy is to get rid
of the blank page problem. Now I can go in and
tweak a phrase here or there or add some
of my own humor. And suddenly, it
feels like me again. So that's Strategy one. Let hat CiPT give you a first draft and then
make it your own. But if you'd rather keep
the first word yours, that's where Strategy
two comes in. You write first, then Chachi
PT polishes and edits. This works well if you already
know what you want to say, but you want to
have someone change the tone and check
over everything else. Here's my rough
draft. Hi, friends. I've been working on a
new summer collection, and I'm so excited
it's finally here. It has bright colors,
playful patterns, and it's inspired by
Sunny beach days. You can see the whole
collection in my Etsy shop now. Also, as a thank you for
being an email subscriber, I have a special discount
code just for you. Then I might say to Chachi
BT. Here's my draft. Can you rewrite this
to make it sound more playful and friendly while
keeping my points intact? Now, this version
keeps all of my ideas, but it's polished and
a bit more engaging. It's like me, but better. This strategy is perfect if you feel
comfortable drafting, but want a little help with
flow, tone, or grammar. Now, you've seen both
strategies. Strategy one. But ChatGPT, do
the heavy lifting, then edit to make
it sound like you. ShotgT, write it yourself. Then ChatGPT polish and refine. Whichever one feels
more natural, I want you to save a prompt for it in your prompt Playbook. Pause here and
actually write down the newsletter prompt style
you prefer word for word. That way, every time you sit
down to write a newsletter, you'll already have your
go to prompt ready. No more wasting time figuring out how to ask ChatGPT for help. You'll have a system
that works for you. You can also add in any other ChatGPT prompts that help
you with your marketing. I have a ton of ideas
in this class download, 150 ways to use ChatGPT. Here are the key takeaways for writing newsletters with ChatBT. Start with plenty of context, who you are, what the
emails about, and the goal. If you don't like playing pages, let hachBT write
first and then edit. If you prefer control, write first and let ChatBTRfine. Save your favorite prompts
to your prompt Playbook so you can reuse them every
time you sit down to write. So whether you let ChatGPT write first or use it to
polish your own words, the key is to find the approach that's most natural to you. Now, join me in the next
lesson where I talk about using ChatGPT for creativity
and idea generation.
7. Creativity & Idea Generation with Chat GPT: Another one of my
favorite ways to use ChatGPT is for creativity
and idea generation, whether it's coming up with
prompts for art challenges, giving me ideas for
new collections, or helping name artwork. Chachi BT is great at breaking through creative block and
helping spark my own ideas. But here's the key to making this brainstorming
actually useful. It's in the back and forth. The real magic happens
when you bounce ideas off of each other and refine
until it feels like you. Let me show you what I mean with an example from my
Deep Blue collection. This collection was inspired
by Summers at the beach, collecting shells
and catching crabs. Once the artwork was finished, I wanted fun, memorable names for each individual pattern. So I went to Cha Chi BT. I started with this prompt. I have a whimsical
ocean inspired pattern collection filled with sea
creatures, coral and waves. Can you suggest
creative playful names for the individual patterns? Chachi PT gave me a big list.
Some of these jumped out. Others felt a little
too moody or formal. But that's the point. Now I have a list of options instead
of staring at a blank page. Instead of just grabbing a
name off the first list, I pushed JGBT a little further. Next, I asked, I like the ones that sound a
little more playful and punny. Can you refine the list to feel more fun but not juvenile? Now, the results were way closer to what I
was looking for. These feel like they
matched the mood of my collection. Much better. I didn't stop there. I
gave it more feedback. I like the vibe of this. Can you please come
up with some names specifically for shells,
whales, and jellyfish. This gave me another
round of ideas like this. Once I narrowed
down my favorites, I actually gave that short list back to Chachi BT and said, These are my favorite
pattern names. Keep this vibe in mind for
future naming projects. That way, the next time I
needed help with names, Chachi BT already understood
the tone I loved. I also took this a
step further and asked Cha GBT to write a short summary
of my inspiration for the Deep Blue collection. Here's the prompt I used. Write a short artist
statement for a playful but sophisticated ocean inspired
pattern collection called Deep Blue. Mention my inspiration. Summers at the beach with my
family collecting shells and catching crabs without
sounding too formal. The result was a warm and
approachable little paragraph I could use for my portfolio. Once again, I tweaked it
so it sounded like me, but ChachiPT gave me a
great starting point. Here are the key takeaways for idea generation with ChatGPT. Ask for a big
brainstorm list first. Quantity is your friend. Give feedback about
what you liked and didn't like and watch
how the results evolve. Share your favorites back with ChatGPT so it learns the
vibe you're going for. Don't stop at one type of text. If you've named your work, try asking for a short
description or blurb, too. Save your favorite
prompts for naming or summarizing and
your prompt playbook. Then next time you're stuck, you'll have a go to
starting point ready. In this next lesson,
we're going to explore how ChatGPT can help you
with business tasks. Things like pricing, contract negotiation, or
product descriptions. O.
8. Chat GPT Business Basics: Now that you've seen how ChatGPT can help you with
marketing and creativity, let's shift gears
into something a little less glamorous
but just as important. Business tasks. Here's some of my favorite ways to use
ChatGPT in my business. Summarizing contracts
or documents so I can understand
them quickly, creating surveys to gather
feedback from customers, writing product
descriptions for my shop, helping me brainstorm
a pricing guide, drafting an FAQ list
for my website, or even writing rejection
email to turn down a project. For this lesson, I want to show you something a
little bit bigger. Using ChatGPT to create a
personalized business plan. Here's an example
prompt you might use. I'm an illustrator running an Etsy shop called
Sunflower Print Co. I have 15 hours a week to put towards working
on my business. My goals for this year are to release three new
print collections, grow my Instagram audience by 5,000 and improve
email engagement. Can you create a simple
year long business plan with quarterly goals
and action steps? And just like that, ChatGPT gives me a clear
plan for the year. This is really helpful, but I want to take it
a step further. Chachi PT gave me some wonderful ideas
and a good outline. But I want this plan to be a little more detailed
and actionable. I can refine it through back and forth. Here's what I might say. This is helpful, but can
you make the timeline more detailed and give me
more actionable steps? Or I am loving what you
came up with so far. Can you break down this plan into a calendar for each month? Instead of a generic plan, I now have something that's detailed and customized
to my business. You can also ask for the format that's most
helpful to you. You can ask for a checklist, a calendar, or table. And if you're chatting with
Cha GBT along with me, you've probably noticed that
ChachiBT will respond with an answer and a
follow up question or provide some resources. This prompt will
help you keep going deeper and get the most
out of your conversation. You also don't have to
go in the direction. It is prompting. Chachi BT is here to assist you not
make the decisions. You get the final say
in your business. Here are the key takeaways for business help with ChachiBT. ChatGPT can simplify
a wide range of admin tasks from writing descriptions to
planning out your year. The real power is
in breaking down overwhelming goals
into actionable steps. Don't forget to
save your favorite prompts in your prompt Playbook, so you can always have
them ready to go. In the next lesson, we're
going to talk about learning and trendspotting,
with ChatGPT.
9. ChatGPT for Learning & Trend-Spotting: A I hope you're feeling inspired
after exploring what ChatGPT can help you
do in your business. In this lissen,
we're going to talk about learning and transpotting. Some of my favorite ways to
use ChatGPT for learning are summarizing articles or complex topics so I can
understand them quickly. Generating reflection
questions after finishing a book,
video, or article. Getting book, podcast or video recommendations
for anything I want to learn and creating step by step tutorials for
processes or techniques. These strategies are
perfect for staying up to date, building skills, and making sure your
learning actually sticks, as opposed to spending hours and hours digging
through resources. Now, for this demo,
I want to show you something I
recently learned and loved using ChatGPT to spot illustration trends and
figuring out how to apply them into your work.
Here's a prompt I might say. I'm a digital illustrator, focusing on creating art
for licensing and products. Can you summarize the top
five visual trends in illustration for this year and suggest ways I can incorporate
them into my work? ChatGPT then gives me a list of some trends
and initial ideas. But here's where it
gets even more helpful. I can ask for references. For instance, can you
give me three artists or studios that are doing each of these trends well so I
can study their work? ChatGPT then generates
examples I can look up. This gives me visual inspiration and context for how these
trends are executed. Now I can push a
step further and ask Cha GBT how I can apply
this to my own work. Based on these trends,
can you give me five concrete project
ideas I could create for upcoming illustrations
and patterns and how I can make them fit in with my
own personal style and POV. Now instead of just
having a list of trends, I have actionable ways I can
experiment in my own art. Whether it's new
pattern collections, color studies or
character sketches, I have ways I can incorporate these trends that feel like me. Here are the key takeaways
for learning with Chachi BT. Chachi BT can help
you learn faster, retain information,
and stay informed. You can also go from
trends to references to practical applications
all in one conversation. ChatGPT can give you
outside references so you can see examples
and do your own research. Save these prompts in your
prompt Playbook so you can revisit and refresh
your learning anytime. Next, we'll wrap things
up and make sure you feel confident using
ChatGPT in the future.
10. Wrap-Up: Thank you so much for
joining me in this class. I hope you're feeling
excited about all the ways ChatGPT can support you in your art practice
and business. Now, let's do a little recap. First, we explored what Cha chiPT is and what
it can and cannot do. Then we talked about building
a strong foundation, how to introduce yourself, give context, and use best
practices for better results. In our marketing
lesson, we learned how Cha TIBT can help
with newsletters, social media, content calendars, and other marketing tasks. During the creativity lesson, we explored using ChatGPT as a creative partner
to brainstorm ideas, name patterns and summarize the inspiration behind
your collections. In the business
lesson, we look to using ChatGPT for contracts, surveys and product
descriptions, pricing guides, FAQs, and
creating a business plan. And in the learning lesson, we saw how Cha GBT can
help you stay informed, summarize trends,
learn new skills, and generate actionable
ideas for your art. Remember, ChatGPT isn't here
to replace your creativity. It's here to support it. Think of it like your
studio assistant. It can organize your thoughts, hand you fresh ideas, and help you plan things out. But at the end of the
day, you are the artist. The real magic happens when
you take what Chad GBD hands you and add in your
own voice and style. Don't forget to revisit your class project,
the Prompt Playbook. Refer back to it often and add prompts to it as you
learn what works for you. Whether you brainstorm props for emails, content planning, new creative ideas or whatever, make sure to share your
prompt Playbook in the class project section so we can all be
inspired by each other. I can't wait to see
what you come up with. If you want to
stay connected and up to date on future classes, follow me here on Skillshare. Find me on Instagram
at BEE Underscore creates or sign up for my
newsletter at bcreates.com. Thanks again for being here. I hope this class makes the
Monday tasks feel easier so you have more room
for your creativity. Have a colorful day.
11. Bonus Lesson: Ethical Consideration: Hi. Hi there. In this bonus lesson, I want to briefly share some of the ethical considerations and controversies
surrounding ChatGPT. This is a hot topic right now, especially in the
creative industry. Also, remember, these are just my own opinions based on the research I have done
and my own thoughts. So please do your own research and also make your
own decisions. First, the fear that AI
will replace artists. Some artists worry
that ChaGBT or AI in general will take over
artists jobs. I get it. It can feel scary
and intimidating. But I think the better we
learn how to use these tools, the more helpful they can
be to us and less scary. I also like to think of
it like photography. The invention of the camera did not stop artists from creating. It was just a new medium
used to create in itself. Second, concerns about accuracy. Some people worry that ChatGPT provides outdated or
inaccurate information. Well, this is true. This is true over the
Internet as a whole. It's always important to fact check and make sure your
sources are accurate. You can go into HAGBT
and ask for its sources. You can read on your
own the articles, find where it's getting
the information from, and then decide what you think. Also, I will say that I use Cha GBT for brainstorming a lot, and that's something
that accuracy doesn't really matter with. Additionally, when I'm
writing with HachiBT, I take what it gives
me, and then I write my own version of it and
put my own twist on it. I never blindly copy
paste with ChatGPT. Third, environmental
impact. Yes. AI does consume energy, but individual questions require a relatively small amount. I also would like to point
out that the difference between using text based AI, such as ChachiBT and
image generation AI, such as mid journey,
is significant. Another important factor
to note is that most of the energy usage is coming from these massive data centers. So while it's important to be mindful of our own AI usage, I also think it's
important to be involved in the legislation of these big corporations and what they are contributing
to the environment. Overall, I feel like with my own usage and benefits
it provides to my business, I think it's worth
it to use Chachi BT. But you should all be mindful and make your own
decisions regarding this. One final thought. AI is a rapidly changing
topic and it's totally understandable that
people can disagree about it. I encourage you to approach these conversations with
kindness and respect. We're all learning and
adapting together. Also, assuming good
intentions goes a long way. As I've already
mentioned, I think the overall benefits outweigh
the negatives for me, saving time on menial tasks, helping me organize things and complete admin,
all of that stuff. But it is still important to
be mindful of our AI usage. Also, this is my own opinion, and you should do
your own research and form your own opinions. Another important note is that this is everything
that I think and to know as of right now that I am
recording this information. This is a very fast
changing industry, and lots of things are
subject to change and evolve, and we will learn more. So this is an ever
evolving conversation. And as new information
presents itself, my opinions will change, and so should divorce?
