1. Introduction: If you thought Canva, just simply for graphic design and visuals, think again, it's a very powerful tool to use for business, freelancing, entrepreneurship, marketing, and branding. In this class, I'm going to teach you how to utilize Canva to create your first flyer to help you with your online marketing and offline marketing. Canva is a very powerful tool which could be used for various industries and applications. Especially if you're a freelancer, entrepreneur, or a business owner, you need to harness the power of Canva in a creative and innovative way. And I'm going to show you in this current class, how to utilize Canva for that specific approach when it comes to shining your personal brand, shining your marketing efforts, exposing the products and services that you have in an effective and smart way, such that you're leveraging flyers to help spread the message. 2. Your Project: Your project for the course revolves around creating your own flyer for your own service or product irrespectively or for your own event, after which you are going to be sharing your project with the rest of the community for feedback. 3. Canva Walkthrough: Welcome to the current lesson in which we are going to examine the Canva interface. Think about Canva as a tools box. It's helpful for many aspects of your marketing and for your business, and for your creative journey as a whole. If we take a look at the top menu, we have the different categories that Canva could help us in. If you click on business, it will have a drop down menu. Show you various solutions that you could have and various resources that you could use to get some inspiration from. Even for educational purposes, you're able to utilize Canva, whether for teachers, for various demonstrations, is quite helpful. Now, the design spotlight is the drop down menu where you've tend to find powerful elements which are broken down into categories, which are considered to be like the powerhouse of Canva. The things which are really popping when you're utilizing Canva, and you can just simply access them easily. For example, you get print materials, like cards, invitations, shirts, hoodies. You go for the marketing, you get logos, posters, and for the current cores, who are going to be dealing with flyers, like I've mentioned, and any other visual documentation such as presentations, white boards, graphs. So it display them for you to have a clear access to them. You do have as well the search bar, if you'd like to type anything into Canva to search for it. For example, if we type TikTok, for example, you're able to have various templates for TikTok, or if you could just simply browse the categories over here. These are the main categories which are accessible by many users, for example, documentations, docs, whiteboards, presentations, social media, videos, even you're able to create websites. On the left hand side over here, you've got your profile details. Then this is the home page, where we are able to see all of these elements. Then you have the magic studio, where you are dealing with artificial intelligence for the elements that you have. This is where you create projects folders if you're working on multiple projects, templates. And for the pro version, you got the brand toolkit, which includes color palette, certain branding elements that are able to save them, and any additional applications which are added to your Canva within the design stage. Now, when you are trying to build up a certain design, first of all, you are able to upload an element from your side or design, or you could customize the size. But I don't recommend to have a custom size because by default, Canva has pre built in powerful templates and sets that you could use. For example, if you click Create Design, you'll have a drop down menu of these suggested items over here. Then you're able to search in the search bar itself, for example, TikTok, and you get all of the various templates predefined based on a certain platform or a certain application. Let's type in marketing. Then you got different options for graphics, postcards, reports, resumes, flyers. And in this current class, we're going to be dealing with flyers, like I've mentioned. So this acts like a basic overview of the navigation panel, Canva. If you are a complete beginner, this will help you get started by understanding how to navigate through Canva, where you're going to just simply click, create a design to hit the ground running, where you're able to select any template or any application, whether for social media, for marketing purposes, a white board, it's up to you, a presentation, and then you could build up from there. 4. Exploring Various Flyers Examples: Going to dive into our application of this current class, which is creating flyers for our business, and marketing purposes. So we're going to navigate to create a design and type in the word fliers. Now in this current lesson, I'm going to show you various examples of flyers that you could use based on your preference and the lessons which I'm going to be sharing with you and the various examples, which will help you draw some inspiration in terms of your application. If you take a look at the flyer size, you got an A four flier, which has the following size. Then you go a landscape flier, 29.7 times 21 centimeters. Over here, you're able to take a look at the sizes of the flyers in order to find the one which matches your requirements. But keeping in mind, some of them, they are quite standardized, but the naming is different. For example, take a look at this 121 times 29.7. It's an animal flyer, advertising flyer. You go art flier, auction flier, baby sitting flyer. Bakery flier. So all of these have been categorized by default, based on the genre or the application. Let me show you how. For example, if I click on art flier. So by default Canva, I was going to list for me flyers based on my selection of choice, where do I see them over here? You're going to take a look at all of the results. And if you notice, you do have a various templates of various flyers which are art oriented. For example, if I click over here, This is mainly a flyer, which is related to art, right? Now, the same logic applies for different types of flyers. For example, if I have a bakery flyer, let's select this. Now, why is this helpful? It makes life easier. This is the whole purpose of using Canva in the first place. To have ready made templates to be used in a modified version to be applied to our specific cases as closely as possible. Now, let's take a look at the templates over here. These are bakery based templates. For example, is related to cookies. Then we do have cakes. Then you do have cupcakes, and you are able to select any template which matches your requirement. So based on the genre and the category, you're able to find different types of flyers about a barber flyer. And let's say you've got a barber shop and you would like to create some advertisement for your shop. Simply go to the flyer tab, type in the word barber flyer, and you're able to select various types of fliers. For example, let's select this one. And by default, you're able to see that all of the elements in it, they are related to your application, which makes your life a lot easier, and especially if you are not that into graphic design or actual marketing in the first place, and you need ready made solutions, you are able to modify them the way that you please. That way, you're able to customize ready made templates as we are going to see, and I'll show you various cases to get some inspiration from. That way you're able to customize it based on your unique situation. Now, let's take a look at another flyer. Let's say a business flyer. And let's click on that. As you have noticed, you do have various various types of flyers based on the genre or the classification of the flyers within Canva. Let's say over here, we do have a certain element that I would like to use. Let's select over here. This is a marketing meeting post. It's a business flyer. So it's for a meeting for an event, and you're able to customize all of these elements as we are going to see. This is a business webinar. You're able to customize as well. Now, just to be quite sure and clear, when you are selecting the flyers, sometimes you might not find the full criteria that you'd like to have. You're able to modify this in the search bar. So by typing the word flyer and type whatever industry that you're at or the main that you're interested in, and you'll be able to get some inspiration based on your requirement restaurant. Here we go flyer restaurant. Now, you do have fliers which are aligned with your own requirements or your own preferences. So you're able to draw some inspiration from. So in this current case, we got two options. Either you just simply type fliers and find the ready made templates. But if you do not find any template which suits your preference, simply click on the first one over here and type and select a flyer, and then you will be directed to the general layout for fliers. Then in the search bar, the word flyer, and then type whatever domain that you're at, restaurant, education, fitness, whatever it is, after which the templates will be modified and filtered in order to reflect the category or criteria that you are focusing on. 5. Using a Certain Theme : We're going to have a different application for the flyers based on a certain application, certain situation that might resonate with you. Let's say you do have a barber shop, for example, they're going to select barber shop. Here we go. And you would like to create flyers to promote your activity. So instead of taking any random template like I've done before and try to modify it, which might be challenging if you haven't done so earlier, or if you haven't experimented with this before to take something which is outside of the box and make it fit based on your own requirements. So it's better to have something which is relatable, and you build up on it. So let's say we have a new opening for a barber shop. Here we go. This is a great template, and the first thing that pops over here, which is the color palette. So I'm going to select this one. And let me try to experiment with this. What if I change the colors over here? Notice what changes this part. So in order to have a properly designed template, we need to make sure that we're selecting colors which meet or match our brand. So how about this current color, which sounds okay. Now, I'm going to change the images to show you how would you go about this bys. Maybe you don't like this image, so you're going to delete it. Notice what happened over here. This is considered to be the frame where you're able to add any image as you prefer. Now I'm going to select elements, and I'm going to type the word barber or haircut, for example. Haircut. Now, take a look at the photos. Then as you go forward the photos, find something which is quite related to your own application. This sounds okay. I'm going to drag it, and then I'm going to extend it to fit the display, and you double click on the image to be able to move it anywhere on the screen. This seems like a great fit. Now, in order to have a properly designed text, let's delete this. Navigate to text over here. Click text, Let's add a heading. Then I'm going to select a template. How about deleting this? Let me pick a template which might seem like a good fit. I'm walking you through the design process. Here we go. Instant classic, but need something to fit. I'm going to change the colors. Let's have black color over here or white color. Here we go. Change this to capital letters, instant classic. Sounds good. Let's move it to this part over here, Isclassic, or Iclassic cut, since you got a barbershop, and then get it now. Instead of get it now, let's say trim now. Trim now. Then changing the template at the back the color. Let me select it. Navigate to the top. Black color seems okay. Keeping in mind, sometimes a color contrast needs to be taken into account and feel free to experiment with this. One thing I don't like over here is the framing of these images. If you notice there are quite two square as if they have been copied and pasted. So what I'm going to do, I'm going to move them a bit to the side, and this again, will help you draw some inspiration. Elements, type in the word frames. Now, once you do have frames, you get different frame options, and we're going to select frames, then see all. Now, these are different boxes in which you're able to drag an image and place it in them. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to select this current element and place it over here. Now, we have to be careful with this. So if I select this image and drag it, if it doesn't fit in directly, it means there's a frame behind it. Click on the right click, select D attach. What does that mean? It means if there is any background connected to the image, remove it. I de attach the image, notice. There's a background over here. I got it out of the frame. The same thing applies. Now I'm going to do the same thing for the other image because I'm going to use both of them and de attach this image. Notice they are to scale right now, and I'm going to move this current frame. Now I'm going to duplicate this to have both of them right under each other the same way, but for it with a different frame. Here we go. This looks nice. This looks better, and we deleted the frame. Now I'm able to increase the size as I prefer or even change the location and increase the size for this one. Now, we do have something which is a bit more creative. And it's up to you also to add some lines, border lines. This will add some borders to the actual frame, and you're able to change the border weight and the rounding of the corners if it's doable. Then I would like to shift the colors a bit. To match my own design. Here we go. Looks quite nice. Let's do something to remove the clutter from the images. Let's keep it quite simple and sleek. So I'm going to add this over here. This looks quite powerful and nice. So I'm going to change the colors right now to white in order to match the current template that I have. How about the contact us to the black color, and you're able to make it bold or just simply extend it this way. Here we go, and increase the size of the font. Let's just squeeze it in a bit. Here we go. So now as you can see, I'm walking you through the process, the same way I would go about a contact us for queries. Sounds good enough. Inquiries, change the color to white, I will look better in this current case. And then the barbershop will be opening on. You could add your details, instant classic. But somehow I'm not quite fond of the background. So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to take a one level further. Let's try the black color over here, looks nice. Then, but this got affected, right? So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to select the border weight, add some border weight. And then once I do so, you notice what happens at the top part. Take a look at this. Here we go. This pops. Now I can add some framing to it, and here we go. Now you do have a properly designed template for your own barber shop, right? Now, one level further. Since I've selected this one, I don't like the whole fusion between the boundaries and the template, seems quite too basic, right? So let's click on the border as well. And let's add some border weight, maybe some dash lines, something like this, changes things up a bit. You can take you can see over here, change the color to the white color. And here we go. You got some trimming which reflects accurately the whole theme, which is a barber shop, right? Now, let's finalize the final part at the bottom. This is where you can just simply improvise. You can keep it as white color, or you take whatever color that you feel that might seem in line with your own brand, or you could simply have a popping color to draw some attention to it, and it's up to you to test out the color which matches your preferences. Let's have light gray. You got your website over here, and V. You get yourself now a customized flyer for your own barber shop. So this example, we have taken an actual template for an actual situation, after which we have utilized various elements, such as text, actual elements, such as frames, then we are able to modify the template in terms of the borders, the colors to get a very unique end result which matches our requirement. Now, you are equipped with two different cases either. You are able to take any template and customize it the way that you like, or you can just simply select a template which matches your own preferences based on your own situation and apply these key tactics that I've taught you right now to actually level it up and make it quite unique to you. 6. Working With Any Flyer: Now we are going to have a demonstration to draw some inspiration from, how could we create flyers which meet our requirement and which are best suited for our own application? When in the previous lesson, we have seen the various templates for various flyers. However, in this current lesson, we're going to select any template and just simply dive into the application process. Now, in this current case, I've selected the following template, simply because I do like the color palettes that I might use in case if I'm having a certain marketing activity or a promotional activity. Now, this is for a car repair service. If it matches your requirement that's perfectly fine, but if it doesn't, then you're able to modify it and keep certain elements, and I'll show you how. First of all, you've got the template style over here. This is the color palette. If you click on this, you're able to shuffle different options for the colors, take a look at the different arrangements for the colors and test if you like something that fits your preference. However, if you select the template over here, the purple bar reflects the elements which are customizable. For example, if I'd like to customize this, I'm going to have the following menu displayed for me, where I'm able, first of all to either extend the sizes of the elements, the length or change the colors, for example. Let's change this to the white color. If you do have certain photos in check which are placed over here, this is a protyp. Once you select over here and you go for the color, by default, certain colors from the photos, for example, these over here, are reflected for you for the ease of selection. How is this helpful for the symmetrical arrangement of your flier such that it looks nice. Let me show you how. So I've selected these colors randomly from the first top selection menu. I'm going to change this color to this color and this color to that color, based on the images. Now, I'm going to select the borders. If you notice the image over here has a red border. So what I'm going to do is click click on the border style. You're able to increase or decrease the border of the image, or you could have rounded borders. It's up to you to test it out. Then we got the color of the image itself. See what happens once I click over here. This removes the image. It's a frame. This is what we call as a frame. I'm able to add any image, drag it and drop it, simply go to the uploads. And upload whatever image that you would like that you have taken, and then drag it and drop it over here. It will be populated over here. So for example, if I take a look at the uploads, I got different types of random images. Let's say I would like to add this one. Here we go, drag and drop it, and it fits inside the frame. Now, in case I would like to increase the size or decrease the size it's up to me. Notice that this image has been placed inside this box. So I'm going to change the color of this box to this color or how about red or white, it's up to you. Then you're able to reduce the size of the image to make it fit into this element. Notice how it's shaping up by simply having a couple basic tweets. Tweaks. I'm going to remove this current template or this current frame. Now, let's alter the booking window to something which is related to the images, about this color now. You might have noticed if you do not want to use this for the car service flyer in this current case, let's say you have a marketing agency, out of the blue. Okay? So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to try to tweak this in a way, which matches my own preferences. Instead of book now, let's have cool Then you got your number and you got your website, W, whatever it is, dot com. It's up to you. Then if I take a look at the flyer, this image does not represent what I want. So I'm going to go to elements over here, and I'm going to how about click on marketing, type of marketing. Then you get graphics, you get photos, you get videos. Now, from the graphics, you could have certain elements that you like, which are related to marketing. How about this? Let's select this one. Change the color, always navigate to the top bar to change the color. This sounds acceptable. Now, I would like to remove this whole car image thing. Simply select it and delete it. That's me. Okay? So I'm going to select a photo, which is related to marketing. Now, let's take a look at this. This sounds nice. And this one sounds nice as well. Something which reflects marketing quite accurately. This one is good, so let's drag it and drop it over here. So I'm going to either place this image, This way. But if I don't like it, I'm able to add a different image, which would seem like a gray fit, taking into account the background color, which is currently black. This is where you need to have some graphic design sense come into place. So let's add this over here, for example. And then I'm going to delete this part, delete this part, and delete this part. Let's keep it. Looks like a good graphical design element. So I'm going to put it over here, how about we drag the element or the image, shrink it slightly. Click on it and pull it up. Here we go. Now we got something which looks So however, we do have the text over here that we need to highlight to highlight our services, you know, So this seems quite useful, so I'm going to drag this one over here. I'm walking you through the steps for you to understand a basic application of this. How would this work? Now, any element that you like, simply drag it by holding the mouse and you drop it all the way to the bottom, again, and again, and again, any element that you're done with, simply click on it, delete, and that's me it. So for marketing purposes, it's up to you, SEO, for example, website design. 11. Feel free to draw some inspiration based on your own situation. Then we got graphics, for example, and the list goes on. If I would like to increase the size of my design, you can just simply select the element at the top part over here to increase the size, to make it look visually appealing. Now, this is 31. I'm going to apply the same thing for every single one of them. This is 31 as well, and this is one as well. Now we do have a couple elements which are quite prominent, and they reflect the domain of work that we have, which is a marketing company or a marketing agency. We got these services, we got some good visual elements. It's up to you to leave them as is. If I don't want to have this, I'm going to delete it. And then I'm able to actually increase the size of this to make it match with that one. So I'm going to click, change the color to white, and here we go. So you could tinker with this the way that you like it. So instead of car repair services, we're going to have marketing agency. And then we are going to pull this up a bit and this up a bit. Performance you can trust, service you can rely on. Well, this works perfectly fine, even for a marketing agency. So now look at this transformation from a flyer which was selected for car services, I was able to modify it tweak it, optimize it, make it stand out in a way which matches my requirement, which is basically a marketing agency. And the same goes on. So in this current example, I showed you how you could actually select any template based on your preference, and then how could we go and modify any certain elements that we do like within that template? And if you would like to experiment with stuff, you could add graphics, you could add photos. All of these, they are quite they're accessible from the elements tab. Once you go to the elements, you're able to select on them. Find frames, lines, arrows in order to help you take your design to a different level. If you would like to add some text, you can just simply select text, and that will help you have some drop down menu for various headings of various title sizes and some templates as well that you're able to mobilize to your flyer. So this current lesson helped you understand the customization of Canva when it comes to having flyers being designed. Simply you select a certain design template, and then you're able to move it, and you're able to modify it based on the selection of the elements. And this will help you get some inspiration in terms, how would you apply this to your own unique situation? Now, in the next lesson, we will have a couple examples to help you even get more creative and draw some inspiration to better match your own unique situation. 7. Exporting Your Flyer: Come back. So we've finalized our flyer, and we do have our final design. Now we are ready to actually export our design, either for online sharing or for printing out. So we're going to click on Share. This is where we have to be quite careful. Click on Download. Now, click on the File T. We are going to export in two different options. First of all, the PNG, which is for the high resolution illustrations. Since you're planning on printing this, it should be in high resolution. Even when sharing online, you have to make sure that your fliers are quite, you know, high quality. And the other thing you need to keep in mind is the PDF standard, why is this important? Often when you're trying to print this and have a certain external party to print it? Or even if you got your own printer, sometimes the PDF format is used to further modify the printout to fit certain margins. If you use the image only, the PNG type. It might make it difficult for that agent or for that company to actually modify the design to fit their margins. Make sure that when you are printing the flyer, that you're printing it as a PNG and a PDF format. That way, you are able to actually email it, chair it, print it quite easily online and offline. 8. Wrapping Up: So, what do you think? I truly hope that you found the class quite helpful, and it gave you some inspiration to apply these tactics for your own business, for your own freelance journey, for your own consulting service, whatever it is that you're doing, or for your own personal event. These tactics are quite broad, and they are applicable to various industries, applications, or domains based on your own interest and your specific situation. I look forward to receiving your feedback. Make sure that you follow my profile for the latest releases and updates, and I'll see you in the next class.
