1. Class Trailer!: Welcome learners. Welcome to this new and exciting course on kinetic typography myself, Kartik Angrish, an assistant professor of management, a certified content strategist, and a seasoned cope traitor. I've been training people in digital content writing, marketing, graphic designing, especially related to V. In this class, I'll be teaching you how you can use the power of Kanva to create stunning animated logos by applying principles of kinetic typography. I shall be starting with introduction to typography and its types, followed by four principles of typography with a special emphasis on kinetic typography. Then I will be moving to animated typographic logos in Canva. I'll teach you how you can use custom animations in logo making. Then, I shall be sharing with you how you can leverage the power of templates in Canva to create very interesting custom animations. In the *** end of this course, I shall be sharing with you a pro technique to identify your font and its family details. In the penultimate video, I'll be discussing with you how you can add music or audio to your typographic logos. Finally, I will be concluding with an interesting project video that will test the skills that you have acquired in this class. There is plenty to learn in this class. Looking forward to you in this class. 2. Introduction to Typography and Its Types: Welcome to learners. Welcome to this video on introduction to typography. Typography is a very vast subject, but for the purpose of this course, I shall be restricting myself to typography and its basic principles which are relevant to the canva. There are certain things that needs to be understood in order to take maximum out of this course. Let me define typography first. Typography is a term used for style or appearance of text. It is also known as the art of working with the text. All these fonts available in Canva are preset typographic fonts. They have created it for the ease of the users so that users can easily inculcate them in their text. For instance, if I click over here, this particular font will be shown over here. I can resize it, change its color, I can add some animation to it, like this or this, or like this. I can also add some effects to the typographic text here. Maybe I can hollow or add a glitch effect, or I can make it neon. I could also add outline. I can also use this lift effect or splice effect. Or if I don't want any of them, I can go back to the nun, which is the default effect. Now you understand what is typography and there are plenty of options available in Canva to use typographic elements. Now let me classify typography into two important segments. One is your static typography, like this baked fresh text or typography written over here is a example of static typography where you have used a certain font in certain color combination, in certain style. That's it. You can download it as a PNG file or as a JPG file and it's image file that can be used wherever you want. However, the more relevant for this course is another aspect of typography that is typographic animation or kinetic typography. What exactly is kinetic typography? Let me show you. Suppose I run the Play Animation button. Here you can see this typography text itself is an example of kinetic typography. You can notice it is in the format of video file and it is coming as a moving sequence of characters. When I'll download it, it will be downloaded as a Mp four file or a video format file, not as a static image. This course is precisely about kinetic typography, especially used in context of animated logos. You can create very impressive logo video files using Canva and plenty of features it offers. I shall be talking more about different fonts and associated topics during the course of this class at appropriate moments. I think for introduction purpose now you are aware what exactly is typography and what are its two basic types, that is static and kinetic typography. With this, I conclude this video. In the next video, I shall be talking about four essential principles of typography which will be relevant for both static and kinetic typography Stat for that. See you in the next video. 3. 4 Principles of Typography: Welcome, welcome to this new video. In this video, I shall be talking about four basic principles of typography. What are the four principles of typography? Let me illustrate for you first hierarchy, Leading, tracking, and kerning. What are they? Let me discuss one by one, starting with the hierarchy first, it is used to guide readers eyes and give different levels of emphasis to sections of text. One can mention the most important sections at the top and make them stand out using boulder letters, different different styles, or different colors, or all of them together. Talking about leading, leading is simply the space between the lines. You can see there is a space between these four pointers here, Hierarchy, leading, tracking, and Urn. The adjustment of this spacing is done through the process known as leading in Canva. There is a very easy way to do this. Simply select the text elements you want to adjust and go to spacing option. Here there is option of letter spacing as well as line spacing. We are referring to leading, which is line spacing. You can see I can adjust it from here. The gap between the lines is increasing. It can also be decreased from here. Now, where this feature comes as useful feature, it is when you use a certain fonts which are too crammed in their design, in their style, that they need more spacing between the line to make the text more readable and legible. As well as elegant line spacing is basically known as leading. This is an important principle of typography that you must keep in mind. Next is tracking. Tracking is complementary to leading. Tracking is nothing but your letter spacing or character spacing. In Canva, we call it letter spacing. If I adjust it from here, I can increase or decrease the gap between the characters. Again, the purpose is to make your content, to make your text more legible, more beautiful, and more easy on the eyes. These two important principles are important elements of typography. That is, leading and tracking can be easily taken care of in Canva by using the feature called spacing. Now that hierarchy leading and tracking is done, fourth on the list is kerning. What exactly is kerning? Is very closely related to tracking, but it talks about distortions in spacing. There are certain forms where there is a spacing between different characters, which looks very awkward on zooming out. You don't want to be in a position where you create a document, and once a text is zoomed out, it appears unprofessional and unattractive. This imperfect gap between the characors is also referred as bad ing. If you encounter a font which has bad curing, then you should certainly try and change that font else, it may not give you the desired results. Be wary of bad fonts. You need to be very cautious that space between the characters, like for instance, in this particular font, it has got very good n means the gap between E and E, N, N and N, G are all the same. It doesn't look awkward if I zoom it out. Even then it doesn't di, this is what I mean by urn. So you should be very careful in choosing your fonts, that your fonts must not have bad cunning. These are the four principles of typography. I hope you understood them and they will come in very handy once you start working with kinetic typography. In the next video, I shall be talking about typographic logo animation in Canva, or creation of kinetic typography using Canva specially for the purpose of creating dynamic logos. Thank you for watching this, keep learning. Keep watching. See you in the next video. 4. Animated Typographic Logos in Canva: Welcome learners. Welcome to this new video. In this video, we shall be talking about how we can use the power of Canva to create kinetic typography for creating animated logos. Va supports a variety of graphics and animations, and kinetic typography, or kinetic logos or animated logos are just one of them. As you can see, Canva has got a lot of inbuilt animations for typographic elements that can be used for creating animated logos. We'll be exploring them one by one, what are they and how you can leverage the power of this inbuilt animations to create stunning kinetic logos in Canva. Let me create an hypothetical logo for a company called Kinetic Yoga. Suppose this is the name of our company and we need to create an animated logo for this company. What we'll be doing, I've written Kinetic Yoga here using simple text elements. What I can do with this, I will simply select the effects first to give it some unique look and feel. I may say outline, or this looks fine. I can even try other elements here, but this splice looks fine. Let me just increase the size of it a little bit. This looks fine. Let me just place it in the center. This text, I can adjust its spacing because your logo should be compact. Let me reduce the space a little bit. Remember the basic typographic principles that I discussed with you in the previous video? Let me just reduce the spacing here between the letters. This looks fine. Now what I can do here, I can simply click on this Animate button. It will take me to this animation shelf on Canva from where I can pick my desired animation. Notice there are two kinds of animations available. Here is page level animations and another is text animations. When I click the page animation, whatever will be there on the page will be animated as such. Suppose I had two logos just to showcase the page animation effect here. Now since I've duplicated kinetic yoga here, let me click animation again. And I'll click the page animation here. Now whatever animation I'll apply, it will be simultaneously applied to the whole page. That is both the kinetic yoga elements out there. You can see from here, any of the animation that I choose will be applied to both the lines here. That is the benefit of page level animation, but usually you don't have multiple lines. Text level animation is sufficient for you in case you have more than two elements. Page level animations can be quite handy in Canva. Let me delete this. We don't need this one. Now, with this, what I can do, maybe I could have some image here. This is a short listed image of this hypothetical company, Kinetic Yoga. Suppose the image I'm having, this is the text I'm having in my logo. Let me just group them together so that I can resize them easily. Now, this already looks very good, but it's a static logo. What we want, we want animated logo. That is a logo in the video format. What we can do with this, I will select this group together and I will go to the tab here. Now, this whole group will be animated because all the elements have been grouped together. Let me go there and suppose I use this again. Now notice earlier there were page animation and text animations. Now what has happened here? The text animation tab has been replaced by photo animation automatically. Since I have added a photo to my logo shelf, If I want to animate a photo only I can select this, else I can go with the page animation that will affect both text as well as photo on the page. Suppose I want to select this one or this one. I can pick any one of them. There are plenty of animations available. I may choose any one of them. Although these combinations are quite powerful and quite elegant, but I'm not limited by them. I can always customize them by these options given below. Suppose I want to address the speed of the animation. I can do it from here. I can make it slower or faster, as the case may be. It is up to me. I can also choose whether I want to animate at both ends. That is, at the beginning as well as at the end, or only at the time of entering or on exit. There are quite a lot of variations here. There's even a variation of direction here I can change, this is a default direction, upward direction. In this particular animation, I can make it downwards by opting for this arrow here. I can further apply these options here which are little advanced. But again they give me ability to play with different movements Is my text as well as photo elements in my logo. This excrete one are quite nice here as you can see from here. This looks great, isn't it? Again, I can assess the movement of the execrete animations as well, using these arrow keys to add more variation to it. They have given you the option of adding these motion effects. You can have this rotation effect. See how awesome it looks, isn't it? You can also have flicker effect, pulse effect, or wiggle effect. Amazing, isn't it? This is how you can create these animated logos using Canva very easily just pick the text, pick the relevant image. If you want them, simply add your desired effect or your font is good enough, you need not to add even effects. Also, simply apply any of the inbuilt animations. Here you can try both page level as well as photo animation level or text level animations. And whichever serves your purpose best, you can go for it. There is plenty of variations and you can further customize them by their direction, their speed, and other filters that they have given you over here. This is how easy it is to create stunning animated logos in Canva. Using inbuilt animation options, you can create any kind of logo. Although there are plenty of options out there in Canva for creating animated logos. But still, if you want to create your own version of animation, there is a way out there. In the next video, I will be discussing with you how you can create custom animations in Canva relatively easily. When you compare it with other complex graphic designing softwares, you can come up with something of your own, something very unique that may be required for your business purpose. Thank you for watching this, Keep learning, keep watching. See you in the next video. 5. Using Custom Animations in Logo Making: Welcome learners. Welcome to this new video. In this video, I shall be discussing with you how you can use custom animation feature of Canva to create stunning kinetic logos. Let's see how we can go about it. In the last video, I've discussed with you how these animations work, both at the element level as well as at the page level. Now I will be introducing you to another impressive feature of animations in Canva that is custom animation. Let's see how we can do it. If I select any element, if I select multiple elements, or a page as a whole, then there is an option of animation pan here. We're familiar with this pan by now, but there is one more option to create an animation at the top of it. This is a custom animation feature of Canva. It's a very powerful feature. It gives you ability to create your own version of animations as per your requirements and creativity. Let's see how it works out. Suppose I select this single element here and I click this, Create an animation tab. It gives me an option to design my own animation path. I can move this text as per my own desires and creativity, place it wherever I want, and this path will be traced as an animated path. You can see this is how this animated path works. Now this was just to tell you about this, take note here, since I had chosen a custom animation path in the animation tab, it is written custom here. If I don't like this, I can certainly change it. Suppose I want to delete the path. I can simply do it from here. The element for which the animation path has to be deleted must be selected. I've selected kinetic yoga here. And I'll delete this path in one go. All the path has been restored to the default. That is, there is no animation here. As you can see, it is written animate. Now instead of custom, that means there is no animation at play. Here Again, I can apply the same thing to the multiple elements. Let me show you very quickly here. I'll select both elements here and click Animate option. And then I'll go to the Create animation. From here, I'll select a path for all elements together. Now see this, let me play it for you. See this, how it works? This was just to showcase functionality of this custom animation path. Now question is how to use it more effectively to create professional, great, yet unique custom animations. We'll talk about it in this video. Now, I've selected this kinetic yoga here. I don't want to move it randomly because it will not look professional. What I'll do, I'll apply another feature here. Let me now just go through the steps here so I can hold a shift key on my keyboard and then move this. It will move in the straight line. If I move it gently in either direction, suppose I'm moving it northwards, then you can see it's a straight line. I'm bringing it back to the original position slowly and leaving it there. Now, see how this animation works. This is much better than the random movement. Fine, again, I'm deleting this path. Another important feature of custom animation. As with other animations that we have seen so far, we can use it in conjunction with the motion effects here. Let me show you how we can do it. Suppose I select this photograph here, and I'll go to Animate button, and there are motion effects over here. Fine, what I'll do, I will apply one of the motion effect. I can apply multiple motion effects. See I've selected rotate flicker pearls. I can even add wiggle to this and just see how it works. Multiple motion effects are at play. But again, it is overdoing things. It is not advisable what I'll do, I'll choose one motion effect here and remove all other motion effects. Let me wiggle. I'm also removing rotate effect. You have to remove each effect one by one. I'll either keep pulse or flicker. Suppose I have decided on flicker. With flicker, it will do like this, or I can keep pulse and remove flicker. Now it will appear like this. This looks better. Let me keep this pulse effect. Now go to Animate option. Click on the Create an Animation, custom animation and press Shift key. Now I'll move this kinetic yoga a little bit upwards. I'm clicking done here and see how it comes out ever so gently, this kinetic yoga text will move a little bit upwards and at the same time this image will pulsate together. Both these effects will give me a professional looking animation. Let me show you how it works. Let me just improve this kinetic yoga animation. I'll bring it back to the original position as well so that it comes out to its native place. Let me click the custom animation here. I will delete the path. And now I'll press the shift key again and move it slightly upwards. And bring it down in the straight line while keeping the shift key pressed. Now see this is how it comes. Now let me just enhance the speed of this animation. I can control the speed of custom animations as I can do with the other animations. I'll enhance the speed of it because it is a little bit jerky. And it will be because it is not easy to move element in a straight line, even with the shift key direction will be controlled by the shift key, but pace will certainly be not consistent. To do that, I can either try smooth or steady. I think study works best. I'll go for the study option, and I'm clicking done here. Just plate. Let's see how it works now. Much better. Now, kinetic yoga has moved upwards in a smoother fashion, at a faster pace. And come down to its native position, more or less to its native position with little practice certainly improve it. But point is to give you an idea how custom animations work and how you can create your own unique kind of animations with your logos where you can animate images and text segments separately. And certainly as a whole too. This was it in this video where I explained to you the custom animation feature of Canva, with which you can create stunning animated logos with poor text and visual elements. In the next video, I shall be doing the same process using some of the established logo templates. Because when you create your own logos, sometimes dimensions can be an issue. When you use a template for logo making, then dimensions are much more aligned and you can pick any template as per your requirement that suits your business objectives. I'll be showing you the process using a template in the next video and how we can play with this custom animation feature with logo templates and create amazing kinetic logos in Canva. Thank you for watching this video. Stay tuned for the next video. 6. Applying Custom Animations to Templates: Welcome learners. Welcome to this new video. In this video, I shall be discussing with you how you can modify logo templates with custom animations in Canva. Let me search animated logo template here. I've written animated logo here and I'll be clicking over here. See what it shows me. These are the templates that is showing me. I can pick any one of them. For this video, I'll be moving away from my kinetic yoga theme and I'll be taking this another theme, donut template, which is a prebuilt animated logo. What I'll be doing it, I'll be optimizing it to my own requirements. As for my own creativity, let me just click here and this template is loaded and I'll be customizing it. Let me first show you how this animation, which is default animation here, how it works. If you analyze it, there are multiple inbuilt animations at play here. If I select this particular element, you can see it has a baseline animation. This D has burst animation. The nuts also have burst animation. This Boreslin has no animation. We'll be optimizing it. We'll be altering it. Asperaur thought process and Asperurw creativity. Let's see how we can go about it. What I'll be doing first, I'll be selecting all of them and removing existing animations. I'll click here and there is option of clear animation. Once I'll click it, all the animations in this particular template will be gone. Let me just play it and to show you, it doesn't have any animation at this moment. You can notice there is no animation at all. This can be confirmed from this animate button because animate button only appears whence there is no animation. Usually it is named by that animation be baseline custom rise or any other, for that matter, what we'll be doing now, I'll be first playing with this O which is in the shape of donut here. And see how I can modify it. I'll be using this rotate as well as pulse motion effect here for this particular element, that is O in the shape of doughnut. Now I'll first change this text to suppose my brand name is Donut Cafe. I'll change this porcell to Cafe. I can alter the fonts if I don't like it. Suppose I opt for this, this looks better. Maybe I'll change the color and make it lighter. This looks nice. Now I'll use one very interesting feature in Canva that is guides and rulers. That will help me understand where my elements are and where I can place them post animation so that there is no unwanted distortion in the final product. Let me show you how we can go about it. Click the File option, Go to Settings, Show Rulers and Guides. Once I've clicked rulers and guides, it gives me ability to pinpoint the locations wherever I want them. That once I change the elements, I know their original position. What I'll do from here, I'll drag it one horizontal line here. I'll drag another to mark my cafe's original position. Draw one more line. Donuts here to the top of the because is the tallest of the elements here. My donut and cafe are bound by this horizontal guides. Now let me add some vertical lines as well to mark this D. Okay, now I know where my original text elements are. I want them to be at the same position at the end of the animation, whichever animation I create for them. Next what I'll do, I'll place this cafe at the center of the screen. It is already at the center. I'll put it in the middle. How I can go about it, simply select this. Go to the position and it is, it is already in the center of the page. Center is from left to right, and middle is from top to bottom. I want it at both at the center as well as middle. I'll click here. Now, this cafe is at the center as well as middle. Now, in case if you're not familiar with all these editing features in Canva, you can check out my course on this platform about editing features and Canva hacks which explains all the editing features with ease and great examples for the convenience of learners. Go and check that course in case you are new to the Canva. If you're not new to this even then this course that talks about editing hacks will certainly add value to your knowledge base and you'll become better with Canva bar checking guys coming back to this particular project in hand. What I'll do now, I'll add one rectangle here. I'll click on the screen and press R and extend this rectangle to cover the dimensions of my logo completely fine. I'll change the color of this rectangle to the base color of this template so that it is invisible. I'll put it behind again. I'll use the position. Go to Layers and put it behind Cafe, that my cafe is visible, rest of the elements are not visible. Now what I'll do, I'll select this cafe and go to the Animate option. See, it is not animated as yet. That's why animate is written over here. I'll click here. Now I'll pick Create an animation that is a custom animation. Er, and press the shift key. Remember this from the previous video. I'll press the shift key so that it goes down in the straight line. What I'll do here, I'll select this cafe and go to this Animate option. Select the Create an Animation. And press the shift key here. And drag it slowly to its original position in the straight line. Just worry not about the pace of it. It can always be adjusted using smooth and steady function. Again, I'll go for the steady one and see how beautiful it comes down to its original position from the center of the screen. Now what I'll do, I will select this box here, the rectangle which I imposed over this logo. And click the animate option here. Again, press the Shift key and drag it upwards. And leave it here so that my doughnut is revealed. What I'll do, I'll just increase the pace of this movement of this rectangle so that it moves a little faster. Let me see if it is doing fine here. Okay, I need to change the pace of this cafe as well, I believe. Let me just make it a little faster as well and see how it works now. A little more faster. I'll play again. It is better. You need to try multiple times to adjust the pace of different animations. Particularly if those animations are in different direction or are of different kind so that they work best in sync in tandem. They do not outplay or outpace each other. You need to synchronize them and try different pace settings for different elements till you come up with a one that appeals to your senses. I think this one is fine here. Okay, now what else I can do? Maybe I can go to this position and do something with the nuts. Let me animate these nuts here. Let me add bust, or maybe bounce. Bust looks nicer, but again, I will adjust the intensity or pace of it. Let me just reduce it a little bit and see to make it more spicy, let me select all elements here and go to effects. And I will add glitch effect here and see how it works. Now you need to try with different options. You can use some of the animations, some of your custom animations. In conjunction, you can create a unique animated logo, which is a beautiful video file that goes well with your brand messaging and serves your purpose. Don't worry about the guides and rulers. They won't be shown in the final animations. Just download the file as a MP file share option. Just click here. Go to download. By default is MP four because it's a video file. If it is a pro version, you have ability to enhance its quality and size from the original 500, 500 pixels. I can make it maybe 960 by 960 pixels. Download it and your file will be downloaded to your system from where you can use it anywhere you want. This was it in this video by now. I hope you're familiar with kinetic animations and how you can use custom as well as inbuilt kinetic animations in Canva to create stunning logo for your businesses. In the next video, I'll be discussing with you techniques to find your desired font for your logo animation. Stay tuned for that interesting video coming up next. See you in the next video. 7.
