Transcripts
1. Introduction: If I told you you can transform images into actual
hand drawn sketches, but without actually you drawing these sketches through the power of artificial
intelligence. In this current powerful class, I'm going to teach
you how to use Canva in combination with artificial
intelligence in order to transform images into hand drawn sketches with a couple clicks and
a couple seconds, saving you time,
saving you effort, and actually getting
some artistic results with fraction of the average.
2. Your Project: Your project for the class
revolves around creating your own sketch from an image that you have
uploaded to Canva. After which you're
going to be sharing your results with the rest of
the community for feedback.
3. Setting Up Canva for Creating Sketches: And welcome back.
The first thing that we need to
do is just simply go to the Canva
homepage at canva.com. And this is basically the
front page where you need to just simply log
into a free account. Wever we're going to
be using right now is basically from
a free account. For the paid accounts or the
premium version from Canva, you could have
additional features, but we don't need it
at this current stage. If you take a look at
the left hand side, you're going to find
the following icon. Which says apps. What I need you to do is
click on the Apps icon, and then you're going
to be having a list of various applications
which are related to various categories,
design, productivity, AI, design essentials, marketing, and you could take a look at the different options for the templates and the integration
with the applications. If you have an
external application, you could just simply
take a look at the integrations at this
current homepage. Now. A, you have the ability to see new applications which
are landing in Canva. Some of them, as you can see,
these are the pro version. Feel free to upgrade. You can have a free trial from Canva to test some of
those applications. And some of them related to teams who collaborate
to use Canva. But for the sake of
this current class, we're going to be
clicking on AI Power. Click on AI Powered. And like I mentioned, I'm
going to show you how could you transform images
to actual sketches. So what I'm going
to do is I'm going to look for sketches, simply type in the
word sketches, and you get different
options sketch fi, sketch to life, photo to sketch. Let's go for the
photo to sketch. You could try different
applications, but some of them they
have certain limitations, and some of them they are
better than the others. So what we are going
to do right now, let's go for sketch to
life or photo to sketch. It's up to you. I
would prefer to at this current stage to test it out to go for photo to sketch. On it. Now, this
will prompt you to the following page where
you have the ability, first of all, to learn more
about the application. Since these are externally
integrated within Canva, it shows you a bit of
briefing where you could actually use this
in an existing design. If you have created a
design previously in Canva, you could add this
to your design, or you can just simply
create a new design. We're going to go
for a new design. But some applications, they
got different features. For example, over here, you got the filter strength options. You could change these numbers
or you could play with the transparency after
you create your design. Here, it's showing you
that filter strength and the transparency for this image after it has been shifted to this output result. So what we are going to
be doing in our Okay, so we're going just simply
click on use in a new design, and then we are
going to kick things off by transforming
images to sketches. Click on use in a new design. Then you have the
following page. Now, it's going to map for you the different
templates for Canva, doc whiteboard video,
Instagram post logo. So you can use this for
different applications, let's say, a social media
marketing post, whatever it is. Now, I'm going to
keep it quite simple. Let's say custom size. I'm going to go for 1080. And 900 pixels. Now, just simply, this
is a random measurement, but for demonstration purposes, to show you that there
are no limits in terms of the ability to transform images to
sketches, it's up to you. You can just simply
go ahead and pick a template for
Facebook Instagram, it's up to you, and then
you could transform it. So we land at the
following page, which is the Canvas that we
have put the dimensions for. And you would notice over here, you have a photo to sketch
and you get to choose a file. Now, what I need you to do is you're going to
be clicking on this, have a certain photo ready, a certain picture
ready and upload it, and we're going to transition to the next lesson to actually
transform it into a sketch.
4. Generating Sketches from Images With the First Canva AI Tool: I've uploaded a generic image. Feel free to upload
whatever image you have in mind that you'd like to
transform to a sketch. And then you have the ability to toggle with the filter in terms of changing the
resolution of the sketch, transparent background
if you'd like to remove any background
from the image. I'm going to keep the settings
by default as is because they give you the results
that we're looking for without much of tinkering, feel free to experiment
with this, as well. Now we're going to click
on Transform sketch. And depending on the application
that you're choosing, within a couple seconds, you should be able to see
the results. Here we go. Now, take a look
at this. We were able to transform the image from the previous option to the current version that we have where we have a basic sketch. Now, depending on
the application, like I mentioned, the
quality basically changes. You could toggle the
filter strength. You can go for
transparent background. You can adjust these
in order for you to see basically how this
impacts the end result. Now, like I've mentioned, this could be part of your
design. You could add to it. You can just simply click on
Edit and you could go about the same design process or the same tools
that we go for Canva. You can click on adjust and you could change
the temperature, the tint, even the brightness
of the image if you'd like. So you're going
to be treating it basically like any other image. However, this is
something that I would like to highlight for you. You have the following
option over here. You got brush and click and you have the ability to do some
sort of modifications. I'm going to click on Bush and this will just simply
prompt a brush over here. So let's say I'm
going to be selecting the following area here we go. Now, once you do so, you have the ability to
modify it over here. You can just simply increase
the temperature, the tint, the brightness for key
specific areas within the overall sketch that
you have generated. This gives you some
sort of more of control on the end result
because sometimes since these are AI
powered applications, they do not deliver as is, but they will help you actually to get as close as possible,
and we're not done yet. I'm going to show you another application
that you can use to help you generate
sketches from photos, and then it's up to you to pick the one that best meets
your preferences.
5. Setting Up the Second Canva AI Tool For Comparison: We're going to compare this
to another application, and then you get to
pick the best option for your own preferences. So we're going to kick things off from the
previous design, simply click on at page
because we need to have a solid comparison
before and after. Then I'm going to
navigate to apps again, and then you're going
to click on Apps, and then you're going
to type sketches right. And then you click on Enter. Then you have this option, which is basically Sketchfy. This is the one over here. You're going to be
clicking on this, and this will help you turn photos into hand drawn sketches. You click on open the same logic that we have
followed previously, you can explore
this application, but you will land at the same basic interface in which you are going
to be adding a photo, and at this current
time, go ahead. Feel free to prepare
the image that you would like to
add and upload it.
6. Generating a New Sketch Variation: Back. So we have
uploaded the same image, and now we're going to click Generate and make
sure that you have your own sample image, which is the same as the one before to compare the results. And I'm going to hit Generate. Now, you might
notice that some of them they take longer
than the other. Now, this one, Sketchfy takes a bit longer
than the previous one, but I've noticed
that it gives you better results. Now,
here's a pro tip. The more complex the image, the more iterative
the process is. So make sure that
you're using clean, clear images which will help you save time in terms
of the iteration. And obviously, you
can see that there's a difference in terms of
the result. Here we go. I'm going to click
to add to Design. Now take a look at the before
and after representations. Now, what would you notice is that there's some sort of
a difference between them. Now, like I mentioned, it depends on the image
and depends on the size, by the way, because I've selected random measurements
for the canvas. Right, 1080 times 900 pixels. So the template is a bit off
to the standards in Canva. So in order to avoid the hassle of iterating
things back and forth, pick a certain template. Let's say Facebook, Instagram, wherever it is, which
is already fixed, and these applications have been integrated
with Canva to make these things quite easy to map or transfer
the results to. But when it comes to
customized pixels in terms of the Canvas sizing, you might have the issue of not getting the results
as they should be. Now, if you notice
the before and after image over here, this
is a good sketch. I like this one compared
to this one over here. Now, both of these applications, they are quite solid. They're solid applications, but the image I have uploaded was not of a high
resolution, that's one. And the dimensions that I've chosen for the Canvas actually affects the quality of the
output being generated. So that way, you have a
clear idea now how to actually use these applications to actually come
up with sketches. Either you can just
simply use one of them to have a basic photo
transform to a sketch, or you can just simply
test them out to see which one meets
your own preferences.
7. Wrapping Up: So what do you think? I truly hope that you found
