2. Benefits of networking SK : Getting referrals
from networking is a very powerful way
of getting a new job. Why? As human beings, we're more inclined to
trust and connect with people that were referred to us from the person in common. It also increased our
knowledge how we should prepare for certain position and role within certain company. And it is a great way developing as a professional
by sharing your successes and failures within
your job search or a business expansion by helping others, we
gained their trust. In return, we might
get a great referral that leads us to achieve
one of our goals, like getting the job you want. It's a term used for meetings in a business context
when you introduce someone or meet someone
with a business purpose, online networking gives you
an amazing opportunity to talk to anyone by meeting
different personalities, which is less than of confidence
and active listening. If you for some
reason get nervous or anxious, start very simple. Experts advise that words
like hello, Hawaii, or you are the most
powerful words used in building
networking connections.
3. Share your expertise SK : Networking, it's all about
exposing yourself to new opportunities by sharing information not only on
the face-to-face meetings, but also online, you
actually become a very valuable professional in
any other person's network. And here you're able
to connect with people with a high influence, which normally
it's quite hard to do without proper
referral introduction. But networking gives
you this opportunity. So if you meet the link person, ask the right questions
and see if that person can introduce you to the person
that you are looking for.
4. Key questions SK : Let's look at the
questions you need to answer before you
start networking. First, what do you want to do? It's very important to have your values analyzed
and goals set. It's actually a crucial point,
crucial starting point. In any career strategy. You can set it yourself or you can seek an expert advice or our action books for
setting up goals and values or any other
external source. But you need to have it done. It's very important
because what happened is the networking and the job you're looking for need to
serve one main purpose. Help you to achieve your
professional and personal goals. So don't wait, assess them. Imagine that you have
unlimited resources. What would you do? Write the goals down, write your values down. And another crucial thing is remember what you
don't want to do. As the same equal is important
what you want to do, you remember what you don't want to do when you have that done, you can start your strategy. The next question
you want to ask, Who do you want to work with? With a team which is
creative and energetic, or more professional and
down to earth, environment. The third is very, very
important question. What is their problem? What is the problem
that you're solving? The problem is the
difference between what is and what there
might or should be. And you are the problem-solver. Your employment is
solving a problem. Your business offer
is solving a problem. So you need to know how you help them solve
certain problems. And that's filed with
the next question is, how can I help them
knowing their problem? You are able to identify
how you will fit to the role to help them and only help you to
solve the problem. I want to help you to grow
and be part of your company. And this leads to
another question, what difference would it make? What difference you
bring to the company? How you're solving problem with enrich the company's
environment. And then ask yourself what steps you need to take
to make this happen. And you can use your
previous experience. If not, you can ask people more experienced people through networking on that positions, how they solve the problem. So now please take
a little bit of time answering those questions. This will help you to be
ready for any networking. And sometimes we net work in a very surprising
circumstances. And you want to be ready for that moment that can
arise unexpectedly.
5. Network with the purpose of helping others SK : Let's share what you feel. Secret tips on networking. When you meet someone
for the first time. Make sure you do
that in spirit of helping the other
person with generosity, which will help you to be
mastered in networking. Also don't start with divisive subjects like
politics or religion. If you participate in an oven and you won't be able to meet
sometimes all the people. So concentrate meeting a
little bit less people, 510, no more than 15. Remember it, sometimes
It's better to go out with one or two viable
connections than 15 at one serve the purpose and you didn't succeed in create
valuable connection. Most people don't have
a carriage to network. But if you introduce yourself
and then you happen to find a solution to the problem offered that asked,
talked about it. And you might be surprised when you use online networking. And here I'm referring at the moment specifically
to online meetings, great opportunity to
connect with others. Chat not only on
the common chat, but also, let's
say you use Zoom. You can chat with
individual person. That gives you a basis for further connections and
private conversations, even online, that can lead
to another opportunities. Definitely use LinkedIn, meetup or sharp to connect
with other people. It's a great way to
increase your networking. And I have to say a quite effective if you
personalize them.
6. The four steps of practical networking: Let's look now at as four steps powerful
networking process introduced to me
by Tom Mitchell. Step one, list all your contacts from phone, Outlook or LinkedIn. When I say contact is
someone that already know you and can talk to you
when you give them a call, step to review them
for relevance. Might they have a work for me? Might they have a
knowledge for me I need to get in order to
secure a position? Or might they know someone I can introduce you to step three, pick your top five when you
define those essentials. Give them a call. Don't say you're job hunting
or looking for a business. Say that you value their opinion and you would like to
get an invite from them. Step four, get the answers
to the five questions. First question, might they have a work that you
can do for them? Second, can they
make a decision? If not, who can forth
do they need something? Do they need to resolve certain
problem not work-related, that you could help them? And the fifth, Do they
know someone that would be able to help you to find a
job or secure the business. You don't ask them directly that will come from the conversation. Because you might ask them for advice in relation to
searching for a job, how the company operates, and how people in those positions were
the requirements they need to fulfill in order to get those positions that
you're looking for. And the last part of the
systems are the next steps. After the meeting. Email them, say thank you, and mention all the names
and issues that came up, making suggestions about work that came up during
the discussion. Other unexpected
issues that arose can put your job search in a little bit
different direction. And the last part of the extra steps is to assure them that
you will follow up. Now we do encourage
you greatly to apply those steps into practice. So if you can now write
down all the contacts, go through all the steps and make the necessary
phone calls. Now you can even connect online, but it's a great way to start practicing all those
powerful steps that brings results after you finish the exercise will welcome
you in next video.
7. How to approach anyone at networking events: How to approach any one
at networking Evans. First thing is, we said about
the most powerful word, hello, how are you? Then you can move to
what's your name? People like when you remember the name,
that's very important. And usually to remember it well, associate with certain facts
and repeat it if necessary. You can ask what
brings you here. That's a question of
showing that you're curious about them and you would like to know about them a
little bit more, then you can ask them,
how did they get involved in this industry? And also you can ask a
specific question in relation to the role or industry that
you're really interested in. Specific questions shows that you're knowledgeable
and you really interested in the
matter sometimes seems not polite
to ask directly, do we have an opening and job. But you can ask
indirectly saying, so how someone can get a foot in the door in your
company or industry. And that's a very delicate way of asking about
any opportunities.
8. What questions we should ask at networking events: A very powerful question is, based on your experience,
what would you like? Someone has told you at
early days of your career? Because this gives you
a great knowledge, the essence of their experience, as very valuable for
them and probably for you if you want to
get into that area. And also relates to the ego of the persons so they
share their wisdom. Another important question is, What's the best way
to contact you? Very often to do this mistake, they just give the cards away. But it's much more important
to get the contact from the person that
you can then follow up. Quite common question
is where are you from? Some people like it, some people hate it. And you can ask this question
based on the circumstances. The next question
that you can ask is, how did you end up doing
what you do at the moment? This will open another
opportunity for them to share the most valuable part of their own professional life when the conversation
develops well, you can even go as far
as asking questions. How can I be helpful
to you right now? You might be even
surprised with the answer. So please take your
time and practice these questions before you
move to the next topic.
9. Story telling in business networking : Now, another aspect
of networking is the power of storytelling. It's not only for
public speaking, but also in those one-to-one
or group networking meetings online or face to face. You can use reflective questions and ask what it was
like when you started. What gives you
energy these days? People love this question
because it gives great flexibility in answering and build much deeper rapport. Putting your mindset in this curiosity approach
is very important. Having fought that, when can I leave will not make
you a great networker. You need to listen attentively, listen actively to understand and ask the right questions. That's how you build
valuable connections. Don't be afraid to describe
your work as a story. When you describe
yourself as I'm a consultant,
actually, who cares? It sounds really dry, but you describe your
role is helping others to reach their maximum
potential or reached the expert level the
fastest way or get the job they want and
sounds totally different. They're more curious how
you want to do that. The question arise and then you build a
valuable connection. So practice this question
wherever you are. If you are in the bus, you can ask if you are
on online meeting, even practice to ask one of the questions that related to
the subject of the meeting. That gives you this
extra confidence for asking another and another
and another question. I remember story needs to be simple, emotional and authentic. Simple because two
complex stories, people can get lost emotional because we can relate
mostly to that story. It's something like it's fun. It makes sure it's true to
something from your experience that says and then relate
to you as a person. You can relate to
another stories, but make sure you clear with
that and audience clearly understand that this is the
story you're referring to.
10. Elevator pitch SK : What is actually
an elevator pitch? An elevator pitch is actually thirty-seconds pitch
about your skills in which describe your core skills and unique selling proposition. Some love it and
would like to have very nice define words
already for every occasion, some hated and say
it needs to be flu. And depending on
the circumstances, this is all summer of
yourself needs to be enough compelling to grab someone's
attention to meet you. You probably guessed
that the name comes from getting from the bottom
to the top in the left. And that gives you
a possibility to introduce yourself
in a powerful way. So what would be e.g. my elevator pitch
certified coach and NLP trainer with educational
training experience. I help individual
professionals and also small and medium
businesses to grow, increase their sales
and productivity. It can be as simple as that. And also you can add some more emotional or
unique aspects about you. Like I'm helping those
professional to reach the expert level by using
in-house design trainers. You go learning
system that elevates the learning by reaching the expert level the
fastest way possible. So you have some unique
aspect about yourself. Please also look at
examples we have in our action books
that help you to construct your elevator pitch. My approach is to have
a core and guideline. Have you unique point about you. Why are you different
and why would you fit to that specific role or
gains specific business? You will be never surprised in any networking circumstances.
11. 10a Three types of business networking K : Welcome into this extra
session on networking. In this extra session, we're going to touch elements that are not usually discussed. If we talk about networking
and tree types of networking, personal, operational,
and strategic, we're going to focus on personal and
strategic networking. Although I will
say a few words on operational networking
to understand the correlations between them. So how Harvard Business Review defines operational networking. If we talk strictly about
this fear of networking, we talk and networking
with an organization, not only within your team, but also with other units, with the key decision-makers. So everything within
the organization that you're able to create a valuable relationships that helps you not only
as individual, but also as a team, as a whole company will help you not only on
your individual level, but also will help to connect
your team with other units. And even at the end, how you can flourish
within the company. Now as you can see, operational networking is
very internally oriented. Now, we're going to focus
on personal networking. We just completely opposite. It's a networking outside
your organization. When you are able to create
valuable connections, that also brings
your mindset and also solutions from
outside sources. So this occasion, I
give two examples. One, a person is with an organization and
second person is outside the organization and try to find new connection to get into different types
of organization. So if the person works
for organizations is very much focused and
that happens very often, or middle-management up to CEO, that the very much
focused on their role. So they're not aware of any outside changes and how that can impact
their company. So let's look at examples
from Harvard Business Review. A newly appointed director
we're in the situation, tour around or close. He network within his
company headquarters, asking for people who were
in the similar situations. And he found to mentors and he was able to turn
out the situation. Now the second example, if you are looking for
work or for a business, whether you sole trader
or entrepreneur, or you're representing
a limited company. The key thing here is that you expand your network
in that so crucial, both for job seekers and
professional who change their current role to reach
out outside the network. I'm emphasized
earlier that 70% of positions are actually placed outside the normal
way of recruiting. But by smartly connecting
with decision-makers, you are able to
secure the role much faster than the traditional
role of applying online, e.g. now, I'll focus a little
bit on professionals who seek new employment or on
a changed or employment.
12. 10b The six degree of separation: In this circumstances,
you can use the six degrees of
separation principle. The principle states that
an old people actually descend from the cells no farther than six steps
from each other. Now, the sixth step
is the longest way. Now, knowing that
you need to focus on your personal networking and not forgetting about
operation networking. If you're still within
another organization, you are able to get to the person that can help you
to secure your position, gets you the business in much faster way than
applying online.
13. 10c strategic leadership: So the last form is
strategic leadership. And this is very much focused
on the larger vision. You as a leader of organization,
your own business, or even your personal brand as a person who's looking to
secure a great employment. Now, the key feature
of this type of networking is to have
and create leverage. If you want to change
or move within the organization and you create connections with other units, people that support
your vision and fruit that you can realize your
vision with an organization. If you want to bring your
idea to another mentors, you want to present
to external sponsors. You need to create alliances and you need to explain that
with the new network, there's x amount of
people who will support you in creating and
delivering your vision. As a professional who wants to secure a specific position, you need to sell
your vision and why you personally love to do this, why this is your passion? Why does this correspond
to your values and showing that this is something wakes you
up in the morning. This is the key that you create your strategic
networking, bringing up all the associations on that interview or
the contacts you've made just to realize your vision and bringing
the information and say, my connections outside
your organization. I'm bringing that with
me to realize my vision, which is connected
to your vision. So how can we achieve
that in our busy life? An example from Harvard
Business Review says that an opportunity
is important, whether you fly on a business
trip or personal trip, any type of social gathering. All are great to create
a new connection. And the most important
thing is just doing.
14. 10d Simple strategic networking techniques : Now at the end of
this extra session, a few extra reminders. At the beginning
starts simple, hello, how are you or give
a simple complement? The most important
is to establish this new habit of approaching
and connecting with others. Recognizing how you can
be valuable for them, and how you can help each other. And something very important
I mentioned before, never forget to follow up, find the reasons to do
that and get that contact. So this becomes a real
networking experience. And lastly, what I would say, don't be afraid to
ask what you need. Networking. It is a mutually
beneficial experience. So it's very important. You ask exactly what you
need in the right moment. But as in any process, if you start simple but
being persistent in no time, you'd be a great networker. And with time, you
start investing more in your communication
skills and you'll be able to connect
with everybody. I hope you found
this extra tips as useful as the other
part of this course. I'm convinced that what
you perseverance and growing systematically
networking skills, you'll be able to
achieve your personal, professional, and
business goals.
15. The best business networking apps LinkedIn SK : If we talk about business
applications that we can use to improve our networking and the results of
our networking. It's impossible not to focus
on the current king game, that sector, which is LinkedIn. There are whole courses on how to use LinkedIn effectively. So today we only focus on few elements that are in
sync with all the steps we discussed today and
those processes and custom messages that you can apply also while
you're using LinkedIn. And if we talk about
online sphere, LinkedIn is a great
place to start. And in order to do that, we need to enhance our profile. We can do that actually
quite quickly. First, we want to focus
on compelling banner that actually subconsciously
very quickly with send the message, who you are and what are
you focused on under your great pride profile picture makes sure that in your title, you'll be creative and inventive
in describing what you do or what you're
looking for and what is your core
interests and passion. You can also invest in nice and clear About section and leave there your
contact details. Don't forget about
featured sections is the section when you highlight the key posts that you believe are very important. This will show that you're
actually interested in what you're doing and you
pursuing your passion, revise your experience, keep
it concise but exhaustive. Add the skills relevant to
each position and education, and then forgot about links to the projects you've completed during that specific work
or educational experience. Last thing I want to mention, customize your URL will be much easier to find you things
like your business card. And it's very nice and
easy and convenient way to contact other professionals. Remember there are
25 million profiles viewed every day on LinkedIn. So don't forget to use
those powerful systems and messages that we've discussed
in the previous sections. While you connecting
with people on LinkedIn.
16. The best business networking apps Part 2 SK : Let's look at now for
other apps that brings amazing results for
networking professionals, Facebook groups
are a great place to start and connect with
your target audience. You can also find very
easy and networking events by putting Facebook networking
keywords where most of organizations putting that
Evan schedules meetup is another great platform that has a dedicated segment called
career and business Evans, you can refine your search by
location and industry type. So definitely you will find the group that
you're looking for. Another fantastic
website is Evan bright. This website contains
all the evidence under their business section, and here you can have
a much bigger choice. Some Evans come with a fee. However, the benefit
of attending those specific focused
Evans is that you can connect with people that you
are exactly looking for.
17. The best business networking apps Part 3 SK : Have you heard that
dating apps can be a great idea for
a networking app? If yes, you probably
know about sharp, this app allows
you to go through profile and choose and
swipe right or left, whether you would like
to connect with person and contact person
and meet the person. It is a very easy way to connect with your
target audience for job seekers or recommend a great app
introduced by Indeed, where you can set up your
profile preferences. And then based on
those preferences, you'll get the best
recommendations for the role to apply. There's so many networking
apps that we can use. Some others that you might
heard of is I clubhouse, lunch club, bumblebees
visible and fishbowl. Try them out and find out
which works the best for you. As for my experience
and recommendations, I'll definitely keep
LinkedIn as number one also for face-to-face Evans, have a look at Evan bright and Facebook groups for very
specific niche or group. Have a look at meetup
and when you have time, sharp would be great to explore. However, if you're
looking for a job, except LinkedIn indeed could be a great addition to
your job search.
18. The future of business networking SK: As you notice, big part of networking moved
online and that's where most professionals say the future of the
networking lies. However, after pandemic, there's a huge focus on face-to-face, one-to-one meetings when IT
professionals also considers that new path for networking
is the virtual reality. I'm going to focus on
three key vital steps that I believe are the most important during
the next few years. First is something we
discussed and observed. The little is the
business networking, dating app style when you swipe process files
like unsharp. However, many opponents to that says that sharp really
needs to develop their algorithm better
to be more precise and more targeted in what
are you looking for? So there's still lots of room in development
in that section. A second segment I
would like to focus on are the tailor-made
networking meetups. There's a bigger and
increasing focus on the specific
tailored groups that use already networking
platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, or meet up. And there'll be focused on specific demographic
and interests. And those professional
groups dedicated to specific professional niche
are growing rapidly nowadays. The third trend that I would distinguish in
relation to future of networking that's
already happening is the business built in
internal networking? By creating network within
the business organizations, we help employees to connect
with members of other teams, departments, or even locations. This will help
employees to share their plants in relation
to career development. And then when opportunity arise, there'll be able to apply for position in another departments. Internal network will
help employees to find mentors, find
new opportunities, and source a helpful
advice, in my opinion, it also will help to
increase productivity, employee happiness, and increase overall
business results. Networking is a vital element, not only on professional level, but also personal level. Networking allows us to
bring value to others. So it's very
important to include networking within your
professional and personal life.
19. Thank you for being part of the business networking course SK: And that's how we reach
the end of our course. I hope you found it
useful and beneficial for yourself and your next
