Hello, I'm Molly. Looking to learn a new language ? Why not try British Sign Language (BSL).

Sign Language is a visual way to communicate using gestures, facial expressions, body language and more. Sign language has been used for hundreds of years mainly by deaf people or people who have difficulty hearing or communicating verbally. BSL is the main form of sign language used in the UK and has been government recognised as a minority language since 2003. It is estimated that over 151,000 people use BSL in the UK and with the skills you learn on this course you can add to that number.

Each lesson will take you through vital signs and skills you need to know in order to communicate effectively using BSL. This course starts with the basics such as the alphabet... See full profile

1. Introduction: Hello everybody. My name is Molly and welcome back to British Sign Language, also known as BSL. Lesson to today's lesson, we're going to learn colors and numbers one to 100. At the end of the lesson, there'll be a short quiz to see how much you learn from today. 2. Number: Our first thing we're going to learn today is the same for number. For this, we want to take our primary hand and close it like so and tap the Baltimore virgin twice. Like this. Number. You try. Number. And again, number. 3. Numbers 1 to 5: Now we're going to learn our signs for our numbers one to five. These are quite easy to remember because you're just holding up the number of fingers using your primary hand. Let's run through them. 1234512345. Once more. 123 45. 4. Numbers 6 to 10: Now we're going to learn a numbers six through ten. There are different variations on this, but I'm going to take you through the most common first, starting with sex. We want to make a fist with our thumb, slightly bent. Six. And again, 647, we want to use our thumb and our pointer finger, seven. And again, 748, we want to take our seven and add our middle finger. It again, eight. For night, we want to discount our thumb and take our four fingers. Nine. And again, night. For ten, we want to take our whole hand and carpet like soap, 1010. Once more. 5. Variations on 6-10: One variation on number six through ten is starting with our pinky. I'll take you through this one then. 678910. And again, 678910. Another variation number six through ten is using both are primary and secondary hand like so 67 8910 and again, 678910. 6. Numbers 11 to 20: Now let's work our way through Numbers 11 to 20. Doctrine with 11. For number 11, we want to take our thumb and our pointer finger and tap them together twice. 11 and again, 11. Once more. 11. For number 12, we want to add in our middle finger 1212. Once more. 1213 is signed a little bit differently. Maybe you'd expect 13 to be saying like this. Since 12 was like this and I love him was like this. But actually, 13 is a team number. So it's actually assigned differently. 13 assigned like this. And easy way to remember our teen numbers is that we take our number we wish and shake it from side-to-side. So let's try saying 133 becomes 13. And again, 13. Once more. 131414. Once more. 14. Next up is 15151515. For 16. Like our other team numbers, we want to create our number six and shake it 16. And again, 16. Once more. 6017 is much the same. 17. And again, 17, once more. 1718, again, much the same. 18. And again 18, once more. 1819. And again 19. And again 19 for number 20 over teens. So we want to go 20 and saying the number, using numbers to 0, Twenty. Try it with me. 20. And again, 20. 7. Numbers 21 to 30: The signs for numbers 21 through 50 are easy to learn. They're much like our numbers one through five. We simply hold up the number. We wish to say. For instance, 21 is made up of two saints to unwanted altogether make 21. For this reason, I'm going to run through the signs from 21 to 50 quite quickly. If you feel that you need to stop or look back again, by all means decile. So let's start with number twenty one. Twenty two. Twenty three. Twenty four. Twenty five. Twenty six. Twenty seven. Twenty eight. Twenty nine. Thirty. 8. Numbers 31 to 50: Next up, 31323334353637383940. Forty one forty two forty three forty four forty five forty six forty seven forty eight, forty nine fifty. 9. Numbers 50 to 100: Now let's go through it. Numbers 50 to 100, starting with 5051525354555657585960. Sixty one sixty two sixty three sixty four sixty five sixty six sixty seven sixty eight sixty nine. 70717273747576777879818283. Four eighty five eighty six eighty seven eighty eight. 8990919293949596979899100. Let's try use what we just learned to say in our age. For instance, I'm 21. You try. Now we've learned our numbers one to 100. Let's try learning our colors. 10. Colour: When learning the signs for different colors, try and associate them with different things. For instance, when I saying bro, I like to think of the elbow patches on jackets. They tend to be Brian. I associate the same room with elbow patches. But first, let's learn the same for color. For the same, we want to take our literacy and draw small circles in front of us. Color, hue, same color. And again, color. 11. Red, Yellow, Pink: The first color we're going to learn to sign state as the color red. For this, we take our pointer finger over primary hand, please. It's the bottom of our lip and put your finger down. Like so. Let's try it. Red. And again. Read. Once more. Red. Always remember this is your lips or read, or you wear red lipstick. Read. The next color we're going to learn today is yellow. For this, we want to take the y over alphabet. We want to tap our index finger twice, yellow. And again, yellow. Once more. Yellow. I like to remember this as kidding on my index finger is my paintbrush. And I'm dumping in my yellow, pink. Yellow. The next color we're going to learn to sign today is pink. For this, we want to take our index finger and bring it straight down her face. Pink. And again, pink. One spore. Pink. Way I like to remember this is that you put blush, which is pink on your face. Pink. 12. Green, Orange, Purple, Blue: The next color we're going to learn to Science Day is green. For this, we use both are primary and or secondary hand are primary hand moves along our secondary hand and arm like so. Let's try it. Green. And again, green. Once more. Green. A way I like to remember this is that it's like grass growing from the grand green. The next color we're going to learn today is orange. For this, we use our primary hand, like so, orange. And again, orange. Once more. Orange. A way to remember this as is if your primary hand is squeezing an orange. Orange. The next color we're going to learn today is purple. For this, we want to use our finger spelling for p. But this time we want to flip the top of our index finger like so, purple. And again, purple. Once more. Purple. A way to remember this is that there's two pi's and purple. So you flick it twice, like so. Purple. The next color we're going to learn to sign today is blue. For this, we use the rest of our secondary hand and the fingertips of our primary hand. We want to circle like so. Blue. You try blue. Again. Blue. A way to remember this is that the veins and our rest often appear blue. Blue. 13. White, Silver, Black: Next, we're going to learn the same awake for this who wants to take our fingers like so and drag it down our chest to make an O shape. Like so. White. Again, white. Once more. Weight. For silver, much like yellow. We wants to create the S from the alphabet S. But this time we want to use both hands afterwards to separate, is if the S is sparkling, silver. And again, silver, once more. Sober. The next color we're going to learn today as black. For this, we want to make a fist with our primary hand, rub it once, then our cheek. Black. And again, black. Once more. 14. Brown, Grey, Gold: Color brown. We want to take our primary hand, like so, donor, secondary arm, friend. And again, brim. Once more. Our next color is great. For this, we want to use both hands and make a fist with our pinky is extended. Next, we want to place our primary hand on top. Robin circles, like so. Great. And again, great. One more time. Great way to remember this is, is if you're mixing paint, great. Fuller color gold, we want to create a G from our alphabet, G. And then vertically sparkle gold. And again, go one more time. Gold. 15. Quiz Numbers: Now it's time for a quiz. Let's see how much you can remember from this lesson. First, I'm gonna give you five numbers and you have to guess what they are. Then I'll show you five colors and you have to guess where they are. I'll show each number three times and give you a few seconds to write down your answer. Number one. And again, once more. Number two. Once more. Number three. Again. Once more. Number four. Again. Once more. Number five. Again. Once more. On screen just now will appear the answers. Did you get them right?
