1. Course Intro: Hi, everyone. I'm Vanessa S of B Vanessa S, and welcome to my course blogging for beginners, how to create and grow a successful blog. You might have said to yourself, I want to be a blogger. I want to create a blog. But then your next thought was, I blocking still really relevant? Is it still really a thing? I can tell you that blogging is still very much a part of our society. And the reason is because it is a platform in which you can create not just for of course, personal development. But we're finding that bloggers are creating platforms like building businesses or creating their brands or developing their brands or pivoting into a new venture or career. Blogging is very much so alive and very much so sought after. It's the only platform, true platform where the creativity is solely in your voice. And so that is why blogging is such a special thing. In this course, I'm going to show you how to create a blog. The dynamics of creating a blog, we're going to talk about how to develop your voice in creating the blog. We're going to look at the dynamics of creating a blog, as well as blog niche and topics. We're going to look at how to write a blog. I'm going to help you write your first blog. I'm going to give you the building blocks to writing your first blog post. And then we're going to talk about the platforms that you can use to distribute your blog. And then there's a couple more elements in there that I'll surprise you at the end of the course, you will have a class project. And that class projects really simple. It's really easy, so don't panic, but you'll have your class project, and I'll talk about that more in the class project video in that lesson. So if you really and truly are thinking about creating a blog and you just don't know how to go about it, or maybe you do you just want a little bit more information or some guidance, this course is for you. So if you're ready, I'm ready, let's get to learning about blogging. 2. What Is Blogging: Hi, everyone. Welcome back. Okay, so what exactly is a blog and how does it work? At its core, a blog is an online platform where individuals, businesses, and brands share content. Typically in the form of written articles. Unlike static websites, blogs are dynamic, constantly updated with fresh content to inform, educate, and entertain an audience. Blogs can serve many purposes. Some are personal diaries where people share experiences and opinions. Others are business tools that help brands connect with customers. Many blogs are informational. Designed to educate and provide solutions. What makes blogging powerful is its ability to position you as a thought leader, drive traffic to your website, and create meaningful engagement with your audience. Whether you're looking to build a brand, establish expertise, or share your passion, blogging is a powerful way to make your voice heard. 3. The Audience: Hi, everyone. Now that you started thinking about your blog topic and Niche, let's talk about something just as important, your audience. So who are they? Are they professionals looking for industry insights? Are they beginners trying to learn something new? Are they consumers searching for reviews and recommendations? Understanding your audience helps shape your content, tone, and your style. A blog post written for small business owners will sound different from one written for college students. A great blog isn't just read. It sparks discussion, gets shared and invites readers to return for more. Encourage comments, respond to your readers, and invite them to take action, whether that's signing up for a newsletter, sharing your posts or leaving feedback. In the next lesson, we'll get into the technical side of setting up your blog, so when your audience arrives, they have the best experience possible. 4. Blog Topics: Hi, everyone. In this lesson, we are going to discuss how to choose a block topic and identify your niche. Okay, so to find the right niche, you need to ask yourself, what is it that I love to talk about? What is it that I love to teach? What is it that I like to discuss? What do I like to do? What am I an expert in? Whether it's an expert professionally or whether or not you're just good at it. Whether it's something that you can discuss with your eyes closed after not having any sleep, okay? What is it that you're passionate about? That's where you should start when it comes to your topics, something that you are crazy about, and you want others to be crazy about it, too. So you start there. Now that we have the general topic of the blog, which is going to be lifestyle. And we have our next tier down, which is making people's lives easier. Let's create the niche for this blog. Hmm. How about something like minimalist practices for Disney professionals? That is very niche, and it still falls under helping people and it still falls under lifestyle. So this is your niche. And so now that you have identified your niche, now you can identify the actual subjects that you want to blog on. So you create a general idea for your blog, then you identify what it is you want to discuss in your blog. And then you create your niche, you identify it, and you create your niche. And that is how you come up with the topics for your block. And you may start off having four or five, and that's okay. You can have as many as you want to. Just make sure you narrow down. Ask yourself the questions over and over again. What do I love? What do I want to discuss? And what is it that people are looking for when it comes to blocks? What are the topics that you see might have a gap or have a need? That's what you fill. 5. Writing The Blog: Welcome back. In this lesson, we are going to write your first blog post. So now that you're officially a blogger, let's talk about writing the blog post. The structure of a great blog post is simple. It follows a format that keeps readers engaged. And guides them to the information they're looking for. A strong blog post typically has four components. The first being a captivating headline. Your headline is the first thing people see. It should be clear, intriguing, and ideally include a keyword for SEO. The second is a hook. It's the introduction. These are the first few lines that should grab the attention and tell readers why they should keep reading. The body, which is the main content, and the third, this is where you provide value. Whether it's step by step guide or personal story or expert insight, this is where the bulk of the attention is going to go for the reader. And then there's lastly, a call to action, the CTA. Do you want readers to do next? Do you want them to subscribe to share? Do you want them to leave a comment? Always guide them towards an action because you want them to be engaged. You want them to be interactive. One of the best ways to improve your writing is to use simple, clear language. Blogs are meant to be conversational, not overly formal or complex. You don't want your blog to read like it's an interview or if you're just providing information and there's nothing else to do. It's a conversation. This is you making a statement about something. You're providing information about something. You're making your reader to think about something, or you want them to act on something. And so, think of it as a conversation. It's just a conversation through reading. 6. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blogging: AI is revolutionizing content creation, making blocking more efficient while still requiring a human touch. In this lesson, we'll explore how AI can support your blogging process, helping with idea generation, structuring post, and optimizing content, while ensuring your voice remains authentic and unique. There are different types of AI for blocking. AI isn't one size fits all. Different models specialize in different tasks. Some AI tools are designed to generate content ideas based on trends and keywords, analyze SEO to help optimize blog posts for search engines, assist with grammar and readability for clear writing, and create summaries and repurpose content for different platforms. If you're considering AI, look for models that align with your blogging goals. Whether that's brainstorming topics, improving structure or enhancing engagement. AI can assist in content creation, but it should never replace your unique voice and perspective. Here's how AI can be used effectively. Use AI for structure. But rewrite in your own words. Think of AI as a brainstorming tool, not a content creator. Always fact check AI generated content. AI can generate errors or outdated information, so verify accuracy before publishing, especially when it comes to websites or current events. Inject your personality and experience. AI can help with drafting, but your insights and storytelling make a blog compelling. The key is to use AI as a support system, enhancing productivity without sacrificing originality. AI is a powerful tool when used strategically, but leveraging different AI models for specific blogging needs, whether for topic ideas, readability, improvements or SEO optimization, you can streamline your workflow while keeping your content uniquely yours. 7. The Set Up - Essential Tools: I Hi, everyone. In this lesson, we're going to discuss what you will need for the development of your blog and the delivery of your blog. Let's start with the delivery first. You will need two things. One is going to be a domain name. That's going to be how your blog is listed and how people can get to it. It's the actual identifier for your blog. And then you're going to need a host. Now, you can find a host pretty much with any hosting company that you use just like a website. And then do your research just a little bit more and you will find there are actual hosts that just hosts blogs. That's what they focus on, and that's what they specialize in. Just blogs. Substack comes to mind, wordpress comes to mind, things like that. So when searching for a host for your blog, you want to look at a couple of things. One is the reach is an international reach. You want to look at the quality. You want to definitely know the type of blogs that are hosted on that platform. And you definitely want to understand what is required of you. Well, you have to do a lot of technical work. If not, how much work do you actually have to do besides uploading your blog post and having it distributed? When it comes to the domain name, you want your domain name to be something that people can relate to, and it's easy to remember. Those are the things that you want to be clear about when you're creating your domain name for your blog, as well as the type of hosting you want for your blog. Now, as it relates to the essential tools that you need for the development of your blog, there are four of them, but their subjective is based on what it is you want and how much effort you want to put into your blog. The first of these essential tools that you'll need for the development of your blog is a writing and editing software. Writing and editing software is typically on each computer. You don't have to go and purchase a different writing and editing software. There are free writing and editing softwares out there, but the key is to have one and to use it because you do not want the death of your blog to be because of typos, spelling errors, mechanical and stactical issues, anything like that. The next is an SEO and keyword search program. You don't have to spend money for this. You can find these online for free, or if you want to spend money, you can. But this is an essential tool because this type of a program will allow you to see what people are searching for. So when you are developing your next topic, you have the tools that you need to know where there's a gap and what's needed. That's a very helpful tool, especially when it comes to topic development. Especially when you're very niche and you're looking to have relevant or evergreen subject matter. So having these two type programs, the SEO and keyword, because there are two different ones, SEO and keyword, having this type of a program and using this type of program can be very, very beneficial. The third is my favorite, and that is image and design. Image and design is extremely important for two reasons. One is you are going to have to have a thumbnail image with your blog. Now, is it mandatory? No. However, is it beneficial? Yes, people are visual. And so when they are looking to read a blog, the image, that thumbnail is really kind of one of the first things that they see. And they try to equate the image to the topic, which is the blog post itself. Having a really good thumbnail image helps with not only the creativity, but linking the text and content to the image creates one cohesive blog post. And lastly, there is the content planning software. Now, again, this is subjective. This helps you to keep things in order. This helps you to not only know what you have posted for your blogs, but also to help you plan your blogs. So you can have a formal type content planner that has everything that you need, and all you have to do is follow it. Or you can create one yourself. Google Docs is a great platform for content planning, and then there are others. So having a content planner keeps you organized, and it also keeps what you've done in the past, in the forefront, and it helps you plan for the future. So as you can see, when it comes to the blog itself, there's a lot of planning involved. So it's not just writing. It's the organizing. It's the delivery. It's the creativity. All of these play a part, and they're all essential and all essential tools that you need to have in your tool kit moving forward. 8. Publish and Promote: In this lesson, we are going to discuss publishing and promoting your blog post. Now that your first blog post is ready, it's time to hit publish, but that's only half the battle. If no one sees your post, it won't make an impact. So let's talk about promotion strategies to get your content in front of the right audience. Here's how to drive traffic to your blog. The first being social media. You can share it on any of the social media platforms LinkedIn, Pintris, Instagram, or you can turn it into a LinkedIn post or Instagram carousel. To repurpose the content, you can submit it to a medium or a guest post on other blogs to increase your reach, and you can use SEO techniques to make your post searchable on Google. Your blog is part of a larger ecosystem. So think of ways to connect it with your email list, social media, and other content platforms. Also, if you know other bloggers, ask if you can be a guest blogger on their blog and ask them to be a guest blogger on yours. This will help to expand your reach beyond just your audience, and it will help you to increase the viewers of your blog. 9. Bonus Tips: Hi, everyone. I want to give you a few tips to help you along the way as a blogger, from one blogger to another. The first one is, it doesn't matter what your topic is. You can have a topic that's on anything. Just make sure that when you are writing your blogs, that they are authentic. They feel genuine. I tend to put a little bit of myself in all of my blogs because I want people to not just read my blog. I want them to identify with it. I want them to resonate with it. I want them to find the blog of value. So in order to do that, you have to be really authentic. Now, it might not be a topic that's sentimental or heartfelt, and that's okay. It doesn't matter what the topic is just as long as there's a level of authenticity within the post itself. So that's tip number one. Tip number two is even if you use platforms like AI to help you write your blog, that blog still needs to sound like you. It does not need to sound like it's computer generated. And the only way to do that is to make sure that when you are working with AI to create your blogs, that you are heavily involved in the editing of it. Don't let AI write your blogs and then put a blog out there. That's not authentic. And I can tell you that no one wants to read that. Okay. You need to provide an authentic, genuine blog post for people to take their time to read. So even if you're using AI to help you, make sure that's all AI is doing is helping you. It's not creating and generating the posts that you are just, you know, putting out for people to read. Because I can tell you, people are not going to resonate with it and your engagement will be very low. Another thing is, which is number three, choose topics that you feel are relevant to today. Don't look at topics that have low interest or low engagement because they're not relevant to today. So, for instance, if you are creating a blog that has anything to do with maybe news or maybe current events, make sure that you're up to date on your current events or make sure that you're up to date on the information in the blog because you don't want it to be outdated before the reader can actually get a chance to read it. And you want to have some form, which is tip number four of evergreen to your blocks. Now, not every post is going to be relevant at that time, at that place during, you know, right then, not every post is going to be evergreen. But if you have topics that can be read today and then next year and still have the same value then that's good, too. So even if you have posts that are going to be just, you know, for right now or for in the future, make sure you blend in some posts that are also evergreen that can be read at a different time. They're perpetual. They can be read at a different time. And then still, there's some value to be, you know, given. And then tip number five, stay true to yourself when it comes to what you're blogging about. You don't want to go beyond who you are. I am not by any means a scientist, by any means a scientist. So I will never post a blog that poses me as a scientist, or I'm acting as if I'm a scientist because I'm not. And so it can be felt. It can be seen. It's not going to resonate. So always make sure you stay true to yourself. If makeup is what you're blogging about, stay within the makeup sphere, which, you know, is aligned with who you are and what you're doing. Don't try to go off in areas that are not your specific areas. And, mind you, there's a lot of things that you can do, you know, even in your sphere, whatever your blog topic, whatever your community, you can stay within that and still, you know, have a broad range of topics. You just don't want to go beyond your scope of understanding because it will resonate and your engagement will be low. If you're going to have a blog, make sure that you have a stated frequency. For instance, are you going to post weekly, monthly? Yearly. Of course, we're not doing that. But whatever your frequency is, you want to make sure you're consistent. You want to stay consistent. You want to make sure that your readers know when they can expect their next read. And that's exactly what they should do is expected. So if you're staying authentic, if you're being true to yourself, if you're writing your blogs, yourself, and if you are staying within your community, even in a general nature, even if you're staying in your community, you should do really well with blogging. And I can't wait to see what you create. 10. Class Project: Let's talk about the class project. If you've made it this far, that means you are ready for the class project. Congratulations. So for your class project, this is going to be really simple. I'm going to make it very, very easy for you. I want you to create your blog topic. Overall, your general blog topic. I also want you to tell me what your niche is. And I want you to write your first blog post. Now, I don't want you to post this blog post anywhere unless you want to. If this is going to be your first introduction, that's fine. But for this course, what I need you to do is create your first blog post, and I want you to submit your blog post to the class folder for your class project, and that's going to be your class project. 11. Wrap Up: Hi, everyone. If you have made it this far, that means you have completed the course. Congratulations. I'm excited to see what you all are going to create as bloggers.
