1. Introduction: Hello everyone. Welcome. My name is Priya my tendon. This class is about how to paint on fabric. I have been done on different kinds of materials like cotton, silk, denim, t-shirts, bags, and other items. Through this class, I would like to share some basic information about fabric painting, materials, used, paints and brushes to choose from four different types of fabrics. I also given information on how to prep the surface, how to transfer the design on the fabric. And then have you demonstrate a simple project on cotton fabric. I have provided you with the design which you can download and follow along with me as we go through each lesson. Once you have gone through it, then you can use this information and steps to help you follow and pavement other fabric painting projects that are added to the tutorial collection. If you are interested in playing God fabric painting, are getting to know aborted or just would like to watch the process. Then this class is for you. And don't forget to follow me on Skillshare to get updated information on my new glasses. Now, let's get started. 2. Difference b/w Fabric Paint & Dyes: Fabrics can be painted using paints, caught dice, both work differently on the fabric. Then be used fabric paint. The paint sits on the surface of the fiber and does not react with the fiber to become a part of it. So the public is lately stiffer and less softer. It weight is with the quality of the pain. Cbi. High-quality gives good results. When dyes are used. It does not change the feel of the fabric as it chemically reacts with the fiber of the fabric and makes a bond with it, leaving the quality same as before. To fix the paint on the fabric, all you need is pioneering it. But in case of dice, it requires boiling. Steaming depicts the dice. This is based on the dyes used and the fabric. Fabric paints are non-toxic. That has dyes are toxic. You have to take proper measurements to protect yourself and using them. Fabric prints out available in different types. We have transparent or opaque Bergelson on metallic paints, whereas guys are transparent. Usually fabric paints are done plus modular designs are smaller projects are used to dye the whole garment. 3. Should I Pre-Wash fabric?: Generally, you have to pre wash the fabric to test whether a piece of fabric really needs pre washing. Drop a little bit of water on it. If it beats up on the surface, it needs a pre washing. If it sinks, then the paint will sink into. Here's an example of two fabrics. The left one is not watched yet, it's still in the package, has purchased from the stool and the right one is washed and I also have painted on it. Then implicitly drops of water on the left one, it beads up and doesn't go through it easily. Some fabrics will allow it to sink in, but would take a long time. Gluteal sin it indicates that there are chemicals in it and it needs washing. But I do the same on the washed fabric. The water immediately seeps into. This shows that the fabric is free of any chemicals. And pretty washing helps to clear or chemicals and starch that will be in the fabric from manufacturer. While brainwashing, make sure not to use fabric softener as the filename inhibit the absorbing quality of the fabric. Once the fabric is washed and dried, ion it to remove wrinkles so that you can paint easily. 4. Can I use Acrylic paints on fabric?: Yes, you can use acrylic paints on fabric. However, you need to add a textile or a fabric medium to it before using it on the fabric. Using acrylic paints on its own will make the fabric strip and inflexible. The paint finish will be too rigid and unable to move the material. If you see the example here, this one is done with acrylic paints. And this one that fabric paints, the one would athlete pains is deferred and the material is not flexible. And the one with the fabric paint is more flexible. If you've painted, then you'll be able to feel it. I prefer painting with fabric paints. 5. Supplies for painting: Let's look at the supplies needed for fabric painting. We believed fabric. I'm using cotton for demonstration, an embroidery loop, public pins for public brains. I'm using fabric kings by public relations and Jaccard textile pains. I like some colors better in each of the brands. So I choose accordingly. You can use whatever colors you have. Public banks, you can use acrylic paints, but US textile medium that the brushes, I use pressures with the little rough bristles in painting on public, I will be applying pressure and pushing the paint onto the surface. So for that, I find brushes with rough presses with matter. These are four card fabric reset. It has a flat round and the liner brush. They have stiff braces, which is good for printing on fabric. I also like to use brushes with sharp bristles. These are synthetic hogs, bristle brushes. This helps me to get a better control of the flow of the paint and the fabric when applying pressure. I will be using these three brushes for the projects. These are sharp visit filbert brushes. I'm using number 6, number 4, and number two. I will refer to them as large, medium, and small brushes. During the demonstrations. You have the fabric is thin, then you can use any kind of soft brushes also. But if the fabric is thick, it's better to use a stiff bristle brush. And for the backbones, I'll be using the DOM stencil brushes, small and large base and the size of the project. Sometimes be using the small round brush for details. I use a pencil or a disappearing ink pen for addressing the pattern. When you use the pen, the marking will vanish after 24 hours or you can wipe it off later with the dampened towel to remove it. I use Islander pen to draw the details and the outline after the painting is complete. You can also use it to trace the pattern, but repugnant. 6. Prepare fabric before Painting: For painting smaller areas, embroidery hoops are very useful. First place, the smaller of the two hops down. Place the public on top of it. Then place the bigger group on top of her 10% down. Tighten the hoop, bad single screw, then pull the public on other side to make the fabric firm without wrinkles. Now it's ready to be painted. It will hold the fabric type and make it easier to paint delicate designs are you can place the fabric on a table, keep a cardboard or a tick sheet blue to prevent any seepage of paint. This is particularly very important when you are painting on double-sided fabrics like t-shirts or below covers. 7. Tracing the pattern: Drawing the pattern on the fabric can be done in two ways. Please, the pattern on the surface and then please the public on top of it in the desired position. Make sure that the pattern is bright and bold so that it is visible on the surface of the fabric. Then using a pencil or a fabric marker, trace the outline on the fabric. And the public is to take the design is not visible through it. Then you can use a light box below the pattern. The light box is a clear box with a bulb inside. So when the pattern is placed on it, the pattern is eliminated, which makes it easier to trace the pattern. You can also do this using graphite sheet, please. The fabric on the surface first, then plays a layer of graphite sheet on top of it, and then place the pattern about. Check to see that the graphite sheet has a lighter surface facing top. If not, the pattern will be transferred. Then with the help of a pencil or any kind of sharp dip point case, the airplane check to see in between the dial plan is being transferred onto the fabric. You can get the graphite paper in any store or online. 8. Painting a Sample project: Let's look at the colors we're using for the juries and need a base color. I'm using apple green for the base color. For the darker side, I need two colors. I'm using dark green, that is proves green and burnt umber or shadow to shadow colors. If you don't have dark green, then you can mix a small amount of blood to the green color to get a darker value as shadow one and mix some more of the black foreshadow. And for the highlights, I'm using white and a mix of white and yellow. Therefore highlights one and highlights too. Basically, there are three steps that follow when I paint any object on fabrics. Step one, applied the base color. Step to think of a direction where the light is being focused. And then paint the highlight one on the side facing the light and shadow on the side facing away from the light, steadily enhance the value of the color by adding highlights and shadows on the light and darker areas. But this time, beta smaller area do not cover the whole area of the highlight one and Chapter one, let's start painting. Let the paint the cherry is first. I'll be using the medium brush paints. I'll be using moodle and yellow before starting, dip the brush in water and wipe it on a paper towel to remove excess water. I will demonstrate two techniques. The first one is by applying the base color. In this case, the base color I'm using is true red. Red, then applying the shadows and the highlights that is yellow. The other technique is doubling a flat brush with two colors and stroking the cherries. So let's do the first 1, first papillae, the base color and the whole theory. Then before it dries, we have to apply the shadows and the highlights by pop the brush before the next step. So let's assume that the direction of the light is from the left top corner. Then the shadows will be on the opposite side. So in this case, the bottom right side of the Chevy by Pope the brush clean and pick up some shadow color on the brush and apply it to this bottom right side of the Chevy. Next, take the highlight color and applied on the top left side of the cherry that the lightest showing. Then BIPAP the brush and blend it with the base color, along with moving towards the center, you can increase the value of the darkness we are playing Shadow do that is burnt amber and the shadow one on a smaller area and blended. Then add the second highlight color that is white and the top area and blended. Now I'm going to do the other city we decide learning technique. I'm using a bigger brush. And base coding though. With the base color technique, then you can do it with the flat brush for all the trees. I'm using the number 12 flat brush and picking up the shadow color on the tip of the brush and blending it on the palette. Then a blended along the side of a tree where it's dark and blended. As you move towards the center. You can repeat it to make it brighter. Similarly, side load the brush with yellow on the tip of the brush and I played on the lighter side. You can increase the darkness by sideloading with the second shadow color that is one number. And repeat the same. Then wipe off the brush and load. I'll add color to our repeat the same whenever possible, way above the brush so that the colors don't get muddy. I'll be doing the third tier is similar to the first derivative. Jerry with the base color and then add the highlights and the data are always been the objects in the back first and then objects in the front. To make the bottom budget is to appear to be the highlight color that is yellow on the brush control. With your leg to appear to be using a small brush with a little number. I'm drawing the stems. As a brush tip is small, you can have a better control when painting the thin lines. If it makes it easier, you can use a thin round brush for this. Let's do the leaves. For the leaves, I am using three colors, green for the base colors, clean for the darkness, and yellow for the highlights. So let's fill the base color for the leaf. You can change that up just the shape of the leaf in this stage. Then wipe off the brush and paint the shadows as the highlight lightest coming from the left. I'm adding darker color to the right bottom side, start from the inner rain drops out and the same green color are the dark shadow color on the opposite side of the leaf. There, you start at the outer edge and pull this bolder strokes towards the main strokes towards the vein. Similarly, add the highlight color yellow to the two other areas left here I'm applying the color and the inner edge near the central vein and put the strokes. Then on the opposite side, the paint on the outer edge and pull the strokes in. The darkness. Playing Shadow do that is burnt amber and the shadow one area and blended. Then add the second highlight color that is white on the lighter side and blended in. So at the base of the leaf, the leaf is attached to the stem. Strokes are B from the center. And a doubt aided our paint strokes towards the when the strokes on the opposite side will be of the same color. This gives a beautiful finished with the leaves and then complete. Let's do the same for the other leaf. Applied the base color, then add the shadow color. Are the two opposite sides of the leaves. Hello, I'm applying the color and the inner edge near the central vein and put the strokes. Then on the opposite side, apply the paint on the outer edge and pull the strokes in. Do the same for the other two ends with the highlight color. Once the hydrogen shadows are done. Then finally pick up a very small amount of white on the tip of the small brush and make a mark on the highlighted side of the Jedi to add a spark. Hi. 9. Adding highlights & Final Touches: Adding final highlights. If you're not using the hoop, make sure that you place a cardboard or a sheet Bennett the fabric to prevent the pain from seeping through. You can add curlicues or Wines to enhance the design. For this, I'm using a number 1 round brush. You can use a liner brush for adding curlicues or winds. Add a few drops of water to the base color paint and make it into an inky consistency. In this project, the base colorless, olive green. So add two drops of water and make it into an inky consistency. Then draw the brush out of the paint to make appointed the 100 lines. You can also outline the edges of the leaves to make a pointed tip, which is a double-sided Batman marker pen. We can use it to draw outlines on the finished design. Once the project is complete and the painting is dry, then you can add swirls and plus clauses are other actions using the identity. And to enhance your design. Here, I'm using guiding tapping to outline the whole design to make the design pop-up. You can also use it to trace the pattern before the painting, but it will be permanent. Okay. 10. Setting the paint -Ironing instructions: Once the painting is complete, let the painting dry put 24 hours and then plays a design forward on the Riverside and ionic. This is to prevent any pain from sticking to the surface of the iron plate. Or you can place another fabric on top of it and then iron over it. Now we are done. Happy painting. 11. Conclusion: I hope this tutorial was helpful in some way for you. After you watch this, you will be able to easily follow my other fabric painting projects which are based on similar concept.
