1. Back to School - Intro: Hello, should
Denton, I'm Hannah, your German language instructor. Today's class we will cover some basic German for back-to-school. I hope you all had
an amazing summer. I know I have. We're almost back to school. So let's do some review of what we might have forgotten
over the summer. In this lesson, we'll go over some greetings and farewells, as well as some school
vocabulary and useful phrases. From there, we will work on
some exercises together, then do some review
before the project today. At the end of the lesson today, there'll be a project to help test and strengthen
your understanding. You'll find it and all the details and the Project and Resources section below. It's in your best
interests to review the slides a few times before
attempting the projects. As repetition is
your best friend when it comes to second
language learning. As always, if there
are any questions, please post them to
the discussion thread. Marked questions.
Questions show we are engaging in the content and help us to strengthen
our understanding. So don't be afraid
to ask as well. I always welcome
constructive feedback. Please leave feedback in
the discussion thread, marked feedback
without further ado. Let's get started
with today's lesson.
2. Back to School - Greetings & Farewells: Let's start with
greetings and farewells. Hello, hi, hey, hello, hi, hey. These greetings
are best used with other classmates as they
are rather informal. Good model. Good morning. This greeting is best used with your
teacher as it's more formal. Model, morning. This greeting is a middle ground between formal and informal. It can be used with both
teachers and classmates. Just Bye. This farewell would be best used with classmates or friends. It is a bit too informal
for use with the teacher. Alveoli asean, goodbye. This is a formal farewell. So it would be good to use this farewell
with your teacher. This but fish Beta, this done until soon, until later, until then. These farewells or a
good middle ground, they can be used
formally or informally. But important to
note is that since these farewells are
time-sensitive, they should be used when
you will actually see that person at a
specific time soon, later. And or then. My lesson on the
basics of German discusses greetings and
farewells more in depth. Link in the description below.
3. Back to School - Classroom & School Vocabulary: Next is some school vocab. We'll start with
some classroom vocab and then some school
supplies vocab. From there, we'll do some
helpful words to use in school, as well as helpful phrases. Let's start with some
classroom vocabulary and school supplies vocabulary. The chalkboard,
dish Skype, Tish, the desk, dashed
would the chair. Next, we'll do some school
supplies, vocabulary. That's papilla. The paper. Dashed, lift the pen. The obliged to lift the pencil. Let's do some more
classroom vocabulary. Oven. The teacher, student, the student and the student. Deep lesson come at,
add the classmate. And some more school supplies,
vocabulary, idea, gummy, eraser, the attacker,
this stapler, the ad bytes method,
the workbook. Now what do we remember
about these noun articles? Dea is the nominative
masculine definite article. D is the nominative feminine
indefinite article, and thus is the nominative
neutered definite article. Do you remember what the nominative plural
definite article is? It's D. If you need a refresher
on this checkout, my lesson on nominative articles and nouns right
here on Skillshare. Link in the description below.
4. Back to School - Useful Words: Next we'll do some helpful
basic words to use in school. Yeah. Yes. Nine. No. Pardon. Bitter. You're welcome. Peter. Please. Donkey. Thanks. Don Christian. Thank you. Remember that beta can be used multiple different
ways depending on the tone and context as well. The difference between the
two thank yous is simply how grateful you are dunk
cushion being more so.
5. Back to School - Useful Phrases: Now we'll go over
some helpful phrases. Daf is off the toilet again. May I go to the toilet? Each hubba. Hubba. Hubba forgotten. I have a question. I have questions. Stay on this. I don't understand. Vbd excuse me. Pardon? Couldn't see it as veto one. Can you repeat that? Couldn't see lung Sam. Can you speak slowly? What is the difference between bitter and V Beta if
they both mean, Pardon? Well, bitter is the
polite way to ask someone to repeat themselves if you haven't heard them
or misheard them. Whereas V Beta can have a bit
of an inpatient undertone. So if someone says something
rude and you did hear it, you could respond to them by
saying the vita as a way to indicate to them
that they can either repeat themselves or
change what they said. That being said, if you say
the beta instead of bitter, German speakers, won't
immediately think you are rude. It's just that V Beta can carry an attitude
that Beta doesn't.
6. Back to School - Exercise 1: Let's do some
exercises together. In our first exercise, there'll be a few images, those in which you will need to label with the correct word. This exercise uses the
