1. Intro: Welcome guys. I'm so excited to see you again with the great course today about an iPad concepts application, which is vector-based sketching tool. And much better than any other, I would say, for creating architectural stuff and architectural sketching. So if you are a fan of Procreate or more fully, I try them as well, but this one is great because anything you will draw, you can change later if you need, right away, you don't need to use only an iPad. You can use as well the Samsung tablets or any other Android tablets because concepts are supported as well for the Windows computers where you can install concepts are. My name is delivered during lab. I teach architects like ten years already how to present their work. Simple, quick, but very understandable for clients. These little trainings are based on that knowledge. And maybe you saw my first two classes. If not, I totally recommend to take a look. This course is mainly about behind the scenes to see how architects creating diagrams. So this one is pretty simple, very effective methods. Thanks, all iPad and concepts application. 2. What we will do: We will do a diagram of this great innovation center from Alejandro Aravena. I found a very nice photos. So tweet on design website. We will use for that purpose, this photo because it's from the perspective bird's-eye view. It's nice to sketch on it and to find a module and then change it for diagrammatic approach in four steps. But if you feel you have your own idea or your own building, you can use it. No problem. Follow only few rules. One of them is find a cubical shape and not organic shape and try to find something more with perpendicular angles as well. The photo from the bird's-eye view. So you can nicely analyze. And because of symmetrical diagrams are made from 45 degrees angle and from a bow to not distort the dimensions of the building. So this is the task projects and looking forward for your interpretation because you can play with colors, with arrows, with a thickness of lines, etcetera, etcetera. So let's go dive into it. 3. Intro to Concepts App: Let me quickly introduce the concepts up because if you are new in it, it can be quite overwhelming. But no worry, it's a very easy and you will learn as we will go through the sketch. So what you can see here are basically projects. So this one is called VSwitch for me, but then you can have like other projects and then my own, you can set up your own project. How ever you want to call it. Then in project you can set up sections. So e.g. as I have like section on the Skillshare classes or my manuals or know-how or advertisements, marketing and other stuff. So we can set up these as well. I recommend to set up an inbox section so you can click on a section and renamed the section one. We hold down finger on that and rename for the I will click on the inbox and hit Okay. You can see they are arranged according the alphabet. So I found the best way. What you can do is to put a z in front of the inbox or x in front of the inbox. And it will be sorted in the first order because I can reorder them. But when I reordered from alphabetical order, then my sketches are not ordered properly because I'm using a date. I use year, month, and date in front of any document, which I recommend to you as well. And in this case, I use usually reversed alphabetical order. So let me hold down the renaming. And I will go here and write e.g. Z dash. And you can see here is that the green box is my first one. And then I can rearrange document if I need. And this is like my Started document. Okay? And if you need to delete some or if you need to create a new document, hit blast and click New Drawing. 4. New drawing setup: Alright, in new drawing, it's recommended to make your little arrangement because original arrangement is something like this. The wheel and pellets are somewhere here, et cetera. So you can very easily drag the wheel with the holding down the finger on any tool. And then you can go around the position where the tool or wheel is available to place. But you can leave it here if you want. No problem for me. I like to use it as in other softwares as a vertical fella tool. So I will go for debt position and I will release the finger. So this is my tools. You can see that each tool, if you swipe into the document, you will see all other all other settings on the tool. But no worry, we will go through that. But other staff, what do you need to set up these pallets? So usually import export layers and precision. And if they are distributed somewhere else in your documents, something like that. Let's say you can go and gather them into one place. Again, I use the composition from the computer as I am used to have all pellets in one place so viable. Bring the layers back or below the export. Led me bring precision moles here, right? So this is it for the beginning and one more or one last thing before we will dive into when you hit the little wheel here, it's good to see if you have a stylus, e.g. in my case, Apple pencil, but you can have whatever pencil you want. And it's important. You can check the finger action for me is panning Canada so I can move the cameras. And for the double-tap, I have usually a color wheel. So you'll see if I will bring my benzyl and go for a double top. You can see all capex if you like markers. So these one is like infinite markers. So you will nicely go through them. One more setting. Here we go two gestures. And in gestures, when you tap and hold with the finger, I want and lasso. And if I tap with two fingers, I will go undo. And if I tap with three fingers, I will go redo. And if I will top of your four fingers, I want to toggle in for interface, which will give me a nice clean, a presentation view. Jump out from the document with the little four squares on the left, top left corner. Alright, so we did a nice setup and now it's important to rename the document because I'm titled, I don't like this. So usually you can do it like tap and hold for longer time. You will get the renaming here. You can write down your year, month, and then I will usually write down the date, but for now I will use double d and then the name of the document, name blonde or something like that, Dan. And these ones will be, as you can see, I will delete this one. This will be our starting template. You can use this template when you hold down this, again, the finger and you can duplicate it. Okay, so we will get like the name too, and you will see is on the first position. And I will hold down the finger again, rename. And I can rename that for diagram. And you can rename as well the date. So e.g. 01 or something like that. Okay. So what is your date? Write down the date, enter, done. And let's go into now you can see the diagram. The template will remain as the first one, but the diagram is like the next document, so I'll click on it. Alright, We're ready. 5. Importing the picture: Right, So the picture you should download from the sources what I provide you and then drag or transfer it into your photos in your iPad. So for me, just swipe up a little bit your dock. And here is your photo app. So just click and drag somewhere on the right or on the left side, I will drag into the right side. And here in your photos, I zoomed in a little bit with two fingers. You can see your photo. So very easy. Just hold top and drop anywhere in your document and you will see the photo, right? So that's the import. And now grab the Pencil. Because we will do a quick analysis of the building. So we will know how many roles or how many columns we need to make a nice diagram. 6. Does building have columns?: We need to analyse the building. So lets me draw some lines to see how many columns we can find in the building. It's necessary to maintain the right proportion of the building. So that's why whatever tools you have here, no problem. You can click in some of them. And if you want to set up the proper pen, just click one more time with finger or with the Apple Pencil. And here you can find the basic tools or you can find whatever other tools. But for now, I would go for classic normal default ban. So I recommend as well. We don't need to, we don't need to set it up. Anything. We can just click and you can just pick whatever color you like. What do you prefer? So just double-tap on your Apple pencil or click here on the wheel on the color and choose whatever color you like. So e.g. I. Can go for orange or blue one, as in my promo picture. And I will go with the thickness of the band, the first value. So go for a thickness like 0.1. And then opacity is the second slide. So I will go for 100. And then the next is the smoothness. So from zero, which will give you lines like this, these way. If you have, if you have your line, like squiggle something, then you can bring the arrow tool. If you don't have an arrow tool just to tab and take the tools of the selection. And with the selection tool down there, you can pick like item picker for the lasso. So we have the last saw. You can make a selection with the item picker. You can go with the cursor and you will find the line. And then later you can set it up very nicely and change the dimensions of the line and the smoothness of the line as well. So this is the strong point of the concepts because you can change afterwards anything what you draw there. So here we have a line and we have rotation off. So I will click on that and you can feel free to Zoom it or scale it as well, rotated so nicely aligning with the first edge of the building, something like that. And then I can do like duplication. So I will do a duplicate of the line. Click here on duplication. These duplication of the line I will place somewhere here and de-select. So this is like one module for me. And then I will select two of them. For debt is better not to item beaker, which is also possible like the top and top. But I prefer the lasso. So I click on the item, Picker, get lasso and just do a lasso with these. I selected the picture as well. You can see it. So just two-finger stop going back. Click somewhere else to de-select routing. And in layers, I need to do two things. First one will be turned off automatic sorting of layers. So click on automatic, you will get manual sorting. And then from the image just tried to select two lines. These two lines, I will move to my panel layer like so. And the image layer click on the name of the image and click on the lock. So dead will lock the layer you can see next to your eye it's very small, but it's there. So it's locked. And now just click on a pan layer and you can continue, or we can continue with the duplication of these two lines. So bring me back the selection. Just select these two lines, duplicate them. And now I can nicely duplicate them like as well to align with the previous one. Duplicate again, duplicate, again, duplicate. And just always cover one of the previous line. And because it's in perspective, you can see that we have like 1,234,567.5. So we can say, okay, seven fields are enough. We can stretch it, which is also very nice concepts because when you grab with the arrow tool, you can select all of them with this lasso. Then you can strategy dam or you can scale them, etc, etc. In some cases you can see also scaling of lines, which is because you don't have stretching but you have scaling. So here, down there are three options. You can stretch, you can scale, and you can scale off. No transformation points are possible. I will also disabled rotation. We've click on that and make sure you go for stretching. And then you can nicely stretch the lines, something like that because it's a perspective. So of course we have some deformations here. But for these purposes, just quickly analyze how many columns do we have. It's quite okay. So I will deselect, Duplicate these three, and duplicate it here because then I see that these extension of the building will go for two modules. I will bring another color, let's say like orange one. And we my proper pen with zeros smoothness. I can write down that this is the 12345678. We have eight columns here with the orange one. I know that this is 42 roles as well, right? And here you can nicely see, let me bring another blue one that we can have the window like for two rows, something like that. Okay? Then we can have a window for three rows. One is empty, again for two rows window, and then we have an extension here, again probably for two row, two columns, two columns, 32. Okay? So this is the way how you can quickly analyze how big the windows will be and how many columns do we need for proper designing of diagram? Great. On the other side, probably we can do the same stuff, like one empty to four columns. One empty too, for a window, and one empty. Okay? So what have we found here is 13467, seven columns in this side, and eight columns on this site would be nice. Perfect. So this is the quick analysis of columns. Let me do an analysis of rows. How many rows do we need? 7. Finding rows module: Let me make another layer, bring another layer because this is the big advantage of digital sketching. And let me bring the 100s smooth line. And I will go with the green. So we can also see, and I will draw a one line here. What I recommend is to draw with the proper size of role as a column. So I will select these line, duplicate it a little bit down, de-select, zoom in a little bit and to see if I'm on the proper size of my grid. And then I want to re-select it back. So this is just the step back with two fingers stop. So tap and you will get the selection of the line, something like that. Duplicate it again to get another one. And now I would like to duplicate all three. So I will select all three and duplicate it down there. Something like that. Okay, and now I can see quickly see that, oh right, the 1234 rolls nicely aligned with the first window and as well we have the second window. So I know that I am doing the right duplicate four of them down there. Something like that. Very nicely aligning here, you can see. And I need to Three more, select and duplicate it down there. Something like that. Nice. So now we see that our window will be here. Here as well. Here. And the entrance here. And we can count the rows, 11 roles as well for another side of the building. And these will be quickly defined during the sketch so we don't need to analyse it anymore. Alright, so we are now prepared for doing a diagram. 8. Let's set up the iso-grid: Right way defined nicely, eight columns versus 11 rows. So let's go to create that kind of cute. And we set it up our grid for a diagrammatic approach, we will use the precision moles. So go for a precision mode. And here you can see the grid, so we can turn on the grid. But if you don't see the isometric grid, just click on ISIL or whatever you have written there, like dot grid, e.g. and change it for an isometric grid. If you change for isometry, click one more time for isometric grid. Here you can see you can nicely set up the grid. So for my use here, 10 mm or too much, I will go for 5 mm per grid. And the line weight, e.g. we can go for a bigger one, likes to, to have it more visible for you, but you can leave it for one point as well. You can change the colors. I will leave it for a blue one. And then you can go back or just stop somewhere in the empty field in the document. So you can see nicely the grid. And then later we will use the snapping tool. And then snapping tool, you need to have a snap to grid and Snap to Grid during the edit. And in our layers, we can click on a new layer, which will be the diagram. So I will click one more time and rename that layer for the diagram. You can do it with the Apple pencil, you can do it with the keyboard as you wish. So let me show you here like so. And I can write diagram, not anagram about diagram. 9. Draw an iso-cube: Alright, and I will start with the green one. Then a lighter, I can change it. So eight rows. I will start drawing. And now, and now you can see that even I am not smoothing my line at all. I will get always very straight line, 345678 because of this snapping. Okay, so I have eight, then 11 down there. So let's go 12345611. And in the other side we have 77. Okay, but we are going into the picture. So let's do move further our cube and finish it there. So I will bring the selection. And in the selection I will select everything and just move it. And during the moving you can see snapping points are snapping because I have my snapping also set up for while editing so it snaps to read, just reselect, de-select everything, bring back the tool, the drawing through, and just draw a line. Something like that. And let's go finish the cube. Something like that. Perfect. So this is our first first step in our diagram. Let's do duplicate it and we will start adding details. Duplicate and move it here. 10. Drawing extensions of the volume: In this stage, let me add the extensions of the building. So here we have two extensions. So I'll bring again the ban. And these extension is somewhere here for two rows, right? And then according analyses, in the row of seven, we will start with the extension of another part here. Okay, so you'll see how snapping works. I can make a circle polygon, old circle, right? So 1234 from down, I can start from four from down. 1234 from down, and going to nicely like so. And we have, in our sketch, you can see we have some entrance here as well. We have some additional extension back there. So let me draw here a little extension, something like that. Here on top we have some opening inside. So this is the beauty of the isometric grid that you can quickly draw and simulate the depth. And because we have some overlapping lines and we don't want to them there, we will bring another tool which is a slice tool. But if you don't have a slice tool, click on any tool, what you have, just double-click on any tool. And you can change the tool, like if you have a hard mask, let's say you can click on the slice and then tap somewhere else. With the Slice tool, you can define the size of your slice, like slicing knife. And I will define very small or something around 1 mm. Because then it's very easy to go and just slice the line if I made any extension. So e.g. here, I can slice something like that. And then I can go with the arrow and select and delete. Okay? In the concepts basically you don't need to erase. There is no eraser. You basically slides because it's vectors. Because then later you can select and change the size of the vector. I will bring the slides again here, a little slicing line. Well here. Okay, then I will select and delete and remove as well some extensions, unnecessary extensions as well here. And here. Perfect. And these line probably don't need to be here because it's one in one phase. So I will remove. And now I can go with the selection and just select, Delete, select, Delete, select and delete, right? So that easy, right. Select, Delete, select Delete. So we will, we learn how to quickly select how to delete the staff. And in the next phase, we will add some windows. 11. Windows pre-drawing: Right, we are in the next phase of the building and we want to add some windows. So firstly, try to set up some dotted lines, like here will be the windows. So I will bring again the pen, but I can change the band. When you scroll back through the dotted lines about, you can see already I have my dotted line here, but no problem. I can later switch back or you can select any other two. Quick click and go for a dotted line. Dotted line I want as well, the green color. I click on the color. And you can see here is a little watch in these color. That means that this color was used, the leg last one. So I will select that. And now we can take a look where, where the windows row or column 76 and then 2347644 rows. So go back. And let's go seven round 23476. Here is the first window. The second window will go here. I remember something like that. Okay. And then we will have some entrance. It's below and one more window next to the extension. So bring here a little window and bring the entrance parking. So this is like the symbolic state representation where windows will be. And then later we can show our point there with arrows, so it will be nice. And on the other side we have window, say on the same spot like this first window down there for two columns, then break into other columns in the same high height as the second window. So here will be the first window, then the break and the second window. Perfect. This is our simulation of windows. Now we can duplicate it and change it. Right. 12. Drawing the depth of windows: So now let's go change the windows. And this is the great advantage of the concepts. Because when I select these windows, I can simply change the tool, e.g. for the line or for any other or four to feel if I want. But I will change for a line right now. And the same stuff I will do here, quickly, selection and change for the field. And we forget the entrance here so we can add the little entrance. Like so. And this one will go back. Yeah, let's make the shorter line and the slice tool like an slice, these as well as these. And we can add the depth. So I will select the line as well and we'll go for the depth of the windows and make extensions if the, there are some missing them. So it's quite satisfying, right? If you're drawing a depth very quickly. And with the selection, just select and delete perfects. Then voila. Okay, so pretty easy. In 10 min, we did a very nice building. And now we just need to add some colors and some outlining called the building. And that's it. 13. Draw some shadows tricks: In this phase we will add shadows. And as well, I will change the color a little bit because the green one can be a little bit invisible. So let me select everything together and let's go for the blue one or for the orange one. Okay. Yeah, because I have a big grid than the blue color. It can look a little bit problematic. But at the very end, with the Export, it will be nice. I will bring again the Slice tool. I found that these lines don't need to be here. So I sliced it, select the lights, deletes, and I will move this a little bit to get proper aligning. If it doesn't work, I can delete as well these and just draw a new one. So make sure nicely fit, something like that. And I can select and go forward to blue as well. And now I found as nice complimentary color to blue one, I found an orange one that I would like to use. If you don't have these colors. Of course, you can use these little trick when you go for a color which you used, e.g. the blue one right here. And I will open up the color wheel and set up the blue color down there. On the other side. All the way up is complimentary color. So you can see something like orange. And of course you can choose something more nicer, not so dark here. So I used this orange color. That's why I found these colors is very nice. Of course, you can set up these colors and save them for later use. Here is a little star. So when you click there, you can find like different colors. These orange color you can bring and pulled into your palette, e.g. or create your own new ballot. And then click here and bring the blue as well, etc, etc. So then I can select this as my palette and just swipe here all the way to my delight of two colors, e.g. okay, so now I will bring the orange, but not for lines because with the lines, right. But I will use the fill. So if you don't have fill yet, again, choose whatever tool you want, click twice and go in the basics all the way. At the end, there is a field and feel we will use only something like 50%. Or let's start with something like decent ten per cent of shadow. Then per cent nice. Then we can bring these orange color for some faces. What is good to realize from where the sun is shining? Therefore, I bring the orange turn off snapping. And just drawing that here is the sun. And the sun is shining like so. So we will get shadows. But of course, let's do another layer that will be safer. So I will bring the selection, Select, go for a new layer. And this layer rename for shadows. Go back forward, feel, and don't forget to turn on Snapping. So I turn on snapping. And let's go for a feel of a little orange color. So as well here. Here will be, we have to be very careful. You need to be very careful. If you will go a little bit out of the line, something like that, then you have to go back and later we will deal with that. And here we have a Windows. So I have to go around the windows and going back. And because we have a snapping if nicely snaps around the grid. Okay. And then I see I need to go all the way up. And again, if you mislead somewhere here or so, you can go back in the same direction and then continue all the way top. So in the one, again, if I, if I will go for item picker in one line, I can do this full phase. Of course it needs a little practice. So don't worry if you will not make it in the first time. But no problem, you can redo it one more time. Take your time. I will do another faces here as the, as the same aligned faces. So this phase, what I did already probably will be in a different shade, but no problem. I will continue with the inside faces. This one as well. These one, right? Yeah, you see, here I made it smaller. Alright. So now I believe, yeah, these phase as well needs to be made so very quickly, but nicely. Of course, you can do it as well on 22 times one. And then the second one. The only thing is you don't want to go over because if you we'll go over, you get darker. Shade. So make sure you will go only to the line where you left off. And now you see it's very nice. Okay, So I made several shades on this phase and then I can select this face and make it a little bit darker because ten is already baked. So let's go for 2021. No problem. And then I can bring it in again and go for 21 or 20. And we draw faces which will be darker. So nice. Here probably don't need to be aligned again. So I will go into my diagram with DoubleClick. This is isolation mode. When you double-click on the miniature and bring the selection, select these lines and delete perfect and double-click again. And here I can see that e.g. these phases, which are a little bit in back, can be darker. So I select it with my item bigger right now, and tap with my finger and bring them like so. Okay, and make them darker, elaborate a little bit before 3,030.30%. So it will give you a little bit depth into a diagram and select these two as well. Then go for it dirty. So I think we made a pretty nice job with that. We have a three shades here. We can double-click on the shadows. And you can nicely see our tree. Shadow colors. Again, double-click back and we can go for outline. 14. Outlining of the diagram: So we are in the final of our diagrams. Here we can see the process of the diagram. And here we can make an outline of the building. And of course we can make an outline of all the links. So lets me, let me bring the, the pen, classical pen, the GluA1, about for now we will go much thicker, thicker like 0.4, 0.5. Don't forget to turn on snapping. And now we can of course turn, make a new layer, which we will rename for an outline. And we can go for an outline of the building, which will bring more consistency into the hall. The volume. Again, one tap with two fingers, you will quickly go back. Hi, can use also the selection tool and make it smaller. So this is our first one. And if I double tap on that outline thumbnail, I can bring the selection lasso. I can do the selection right? And then go back into all layers visibility and just duplicate and shifted to my previous building. And probably it will not fit so I can turn off snapping and then it will be much easier, something like that. Okay. And for next stage as well, and double-click, double-tap and just bring it here. Okay, The last one I should do manually snapping. So now we see or our outlines probably they should be darker. So how easy I can make them darker. Double-click on the thumbnails of outlines, select them, read them. Lasso Tool, and go for a darker color. So I just click on the color and pick a darker one. Double-tap on the miniature. Nice. 15. Diagram's arrows: The last thing, what do we want it to add is arrows, because arrows we used in architecture very often to show that something is pushed, that something is extended, etc. So these are the little arrow. I can design a new layer, rename arrows. And I will bring the blue color. Of course, I can choose the darker blue color and I can change that as well in my favorite colors. Bring this color here. And these blue color we can delete just holds with the stylus, drag it out, and leave and release. So you will get two other colors and the arrows, let's go draw an arrow up here. So I will bring this much smaller line like 0.1 again. And I will drag something like here. Here. Two lines, two lines, and the peak of that arrow must be somewhere in the middle. So let me turn off snapping, but bringing 100% smoothness. And now when I will drag, I can drag the line somewhere in the middle. So somewhere here and from the other side, summer here as well. Okay, So this is the arrow. And for our purposes, we can make it a little bit. We can make it as a group, which is also very good. So bring the selection lasso. Let's make a selection of that arrow and click on the group, which will make a group of the arrow. And now we can play with the thickness of the arrow if we need as well. We've the field I have here, my fill with the white color. And here is the trick how to make the white fill as the bag color. So I will make another layer. And this layer I will bring behind the arrows, something like that. With these white color, we want 100% with no snapping. I can easily drag. It's almost invisible. So let me use the orange color for you. So you will see what I am doing. Something like that. It will be the background color. And now with the selection, we've item picker I can select and change for white color. And because it's the layer behind the lines of arrows are about. And I can do another trick. And that is the combining of these two layers very easily click on arrow and click these double arrows down there. And it will brings two layers together and select everything and group. Then you have very nice tool. This arrow we can select right now because it's a group. So it's perfect and we can play with the position of the arrow, e.g. here, we want to show that these will be the whole inside. Then we can duplicate it. And we can show that this one will be the window inside. But make sure you don't want to change the size of arrows because then you will have like different hierarchy in arrows. So let me click with two fingers back. One more time, one more time, and make sure turn off stretching or scaling and just work with rotating. So now I can nicely rotate and show that this is window will be pushed duplicate. This window as well, there'll be pushed duplicate. And now I would like to make this window, but if, when I rotate, the arrow doesn't work. So here is a trick and other trick, just two fingers tap. Here we have some flipping according the vertical axis or according the horizontal axis. So you can very quickly change from where you want to use the arrow. There we are. Very nice displaying of arrows as well. We can point like here and duplicate that. We have also the entrance here. So play the arrows for your specific steps in your diagrams. And we can select as well that e.g. holes are made here and the windows are made here. So don't need to duplicate the intention of arrows, what we are doing. So now we can nicely show what we're doing in each phase. Perfect. 16. Number your stages: Perfect. Don't forget to write down as well. I can bring the huge number and I can write that this is the step one. Write and duplicate these number. To make it nicer. These will be 234. Okay? And now 234. And extend these two lines. We've stretch. These three, induce as well or maybe not. So this is our approach and play with diagrams with eyes, symmetrical shape, isometric grid. And let's do a quick export. 17. Export: So 40 export, double-click on the export and you can choose whatever format you want in pro version. So I will pick the JPEG, the size of a screenshot. That means that also a little part of my reference picture will be shown. If you don't want to do this, just click. Go for four fingers, tap so you will see what everything will be visible. Just zoom in a little bit, something like that. And now again, four fingers. Double-click on Export. Choose JPEG, choose screenshot size, not the whole drawing. Choose plain whites, not the grid. We don't want a grid. You can choose a paper style if you want them, but I chose a plane. And here is the great thing. You can export up to 400% scale because this is the vector. So you can go like 10,000 pixels. She's not necessary right now. So I will go for 100%, which is nice, 2,700 pixels. It's great. And just click Export. This is the preview and you can just hit Save Image. This is our picture. And very nice diagram from the building. 18. Final words and task: So hope you enjoyed that as much as I did. And I'm looking forward for your interpretation, your colors of your styles, of your arrows and your steps. So make sure you upload your creation and looking forward to, to be in touch with you. Bye guys.
