1. Audacity intro vid 1: In this Udacity Quick Guide course, you will learn how to make your audio better and that too quickly. Okay, we'll start right from downloading and installing the Odacity, setting up the audio recording editing. We'll also learn few effects and at last, we'll see how to save the project and export the audio if you're interested. What are you waiting for? Let's see you inside. 2. 2 Record edit and effects basics: Let's get started by downloading and installing Audacity. To do that, you need any web browser. So I have opened my Google Chrome here, and I'm searching for Udacity. Here we go, Download Udacity. I'll just simply click on it. Now as I'm using Windows, I'm downloading it for Windows. You may also download from Mac, Linux as per your requirement. So I'll just simply download for Windows. Now the download has started and it has completed successfully. I'll just simply click on this. Click on Okay. I'm satisfied with the language English, so I'll click on Okay. Click on Next. Next. Next I'll say yes. Click Next Install. Now finally launch Udacity is ticked. When I click on Finish, it'll automatically open Audacity. So here we go. We have successfully downloaded and installed Udacity. And now we don't need this web browser. So I'll just close it now. I'll maximize it now to record an audio, the first thing I would do is I will just check my audio set up. So I'll just simply click on audio setup here and I'll see what is my playback device. My speakers are selected, that's good. Now what I'll do is I'll check the recording device here, my mixer is selected, so that's totally fine. Again. Now again, I'll see the recording channel. I want to record it in mono, single track, if you want stereo track, you can do that as well. So I'll just go for mono. Okay? Then to record, to start recording, I need to simply click on this Record button with the shortcut for this is R. And if you want to record it in a new track, then the shortcut is Shift plus R. You can see here itself, it's showing you, I'll just simply click on this and it starts recording. Now in case you want to pause your recording in between not stop, pause, you can simply click on this pause and it pauses. Okay. If I click on that, it'll continue from there itself. It'll start recording from there itself. No, you want to stop the recording. Then you can simply click on this Stop button and it stops. Okay? Now, if you want to record from here, just give a click here and then click on Record again. It starts again, but what if I want to start in a new track as you have already seen? It's shift to place R. Let me press Shift and R here you can see it started recording from new track to start in the new track. You might be thinking that, why did the recording start from here and not from here? Because I was clicking this position, you can see that it started from there. Now in case you want to just play and see, you can click from wherever you want to start playing. And you can click on this Play button. If you want to pause, you can pause it. It'll stay wherever you paused it again. If you want to play from the place where you paused, you can just click on the pause and it charge back. Okay? Instead, if you click on Stop while playing, it goes back to the initial position where it started. Okay, See I'll just play Show you start recording now in case. And now I'm giving Stop. It won't stop here. Instead it will come back here. Okay, so if you stop, it gets back to the initial position. So I'm just playing it again. So how can we do it with the shortcut? So if you want to pause it, you may press from a keyboard. And to play it back from there itself, you can press P again in between, okay? And if you want to stop, it's Spacebar. And if you want to start it's Space Bar. Okay. To stop and start, you can use Space Bar. So I'll just remove these tracks now by pressing this close button. And one more thing that you need to look at is, here is the recording meter and here is the playback meter, Okay? When I record, and now you can see whatever I'm speaking, it's showing me the level. Okay? And if I stop it and if I play now, okay, you can see the level. Whatever I'm speaking, it's showing me the level. Okay. Now let's remove this and let's record something properly. Okay? So I'll just close this. Hello, I'm Minder and you're learning audacity. I would request you to make a practice that whenever you start recording, please be silent for a couple of seconds so that it can record the room noise. Okay? And once you're done, please wait for a while Okay, so that it can record the room noise. So now let's see how to remove the noise if there is. Okay, so you need to select the portion where you did not speak and just go to the Effects menu now. Noise Removal and Repair. And then click on Noise Reduction. Okay? And you need to click on the Get noise profile. Okay, So what it'll do is the portion that you selected where you were silent, it'll just take the noise profile from that. We need to remove noise from entire area. So what we'll do is we'll select everything. You can select the whole track by just double clicking it. Okay. Or else you may also press controller here. I have selected the ten track, now effect noise removal and repair, and again, noise reduction. Now just simply click on. Okay. And please abso here, here and here. If I click okay, see the knot. Something like that. For let's once play and check it. Hello, I'm mind and you're learning Day. Okay. If you want, you can remove the unnecessary portion. That's up to you. I'll just remove it simply. Hello, I'm miner and your learning Udacity. Now what I'll do is I need to increase the volume. It's very low, right? So what I can do is I can just select the track again by double clicking on it. I'll go to the effects volumen compression, and I'll click on Normalize. Okay, Normalize, I'll just make it up to minus three DB. Okay? For instance, you can also go with minus one D B because I want to show you some more effects which will increase the volume. So I'll just keep it up to minus three D B here. And click on Apply. And now you can see it has increased. But you can see another thing that is they are not equal, right? Means some part of it is loud and some part of it is not. I mean, they are not equal in level. So let's play and see once. Hello? I'm him in there and your learning day, okay? To level them up, we use something called compressor. Okay? I'll just select the track effect, okay? And then I'll go to volume compression and click on Compressor. I'll not go in depth because this is a quick guide. So you can go with defaults and it does a good job if it is not on default, it's moved here or there. What you can do is you can simply go on presets and settings factory presets, defaults, and it'll make it default, okay? So the only thing I'll do is I'll just reduce the attack time, okay? And then click on Apply. Now you can see the compressor has done its job to show you this was before and this is after. Okay, to show you before and after, what I have done is I just pressed control to undo and again control y to redo. Now let's see. Hello, I'm miner and your learning audacity. So I have not covered compressor in detail. We have gone with the default, so don't worry about it. As of now, you can see there are a lot of peaks here, right? So another way to remove those is go to Effects Volume and Compression and make a limiter. Okay, what I'll do is here you can see Limit to D, B, okay. I'll make it as per my requirements and click on Apply. And now you can see there is limit, okay? Now if you wish to, you can again normalize. If you normalize, this time I'll go with minus two V. Now, hello, I'm Minder. And your learning audacity. Okay, so far so good. Now to get some base boost or Treble boost, what we'll do is we'll just simply double click to select it. We'll go to Effect, and then we'll go here for EQ and Filter. So we'll go for filter Q. Now by default it doesn't come like that. You can just click on Flatten if it's not available like that. Okay, So what I'll do is I'll just click here. Okay? Raise this bar up. What this does is it base your treble. Okay? So let's apply and see Now, let's listen to it. Hello, I'm in your learning audacity, Okay? That's the difference. Now I'll select it again. I'll go to filter. Okay? And then I'll show you by another method, graphic Q. This time we'll go for that. You by default have presets, okay? No need to go with these things directly. Go here, Presets and Settings. You can click on Factory presets, you can click on Base Boost. If you want to increase the boost, what it does is it increases the base part. If I click on Apply, and now let's see on Hello, I'm mind learning Udacity now. You can clearly see the difference. Okay. You can see your audio has already been improved. Hello, I'm miner and your learning Udacity. If you want to boost the travel again, you may do that, but I don't think it's essential. So let's see, Once first I'll just double click to select it. I'll go to effect Q filters, graphic EQ preset and settings factory preset. And then I'll do a travel boost. Okay. If I click on. Okay. And now see Hello, I'm Minder and your learning Udacity. Here you can see some portion is just going beyond the limits. So what we can do is we can add limit here, effect volumen compression limit. Okay? It's already up to minus three DB. You can experiment with it. I'll just apply this and see, here we go. Hello, I'm miner and your learning udacity, You can do it as per your taste. Let's see next. I'll just remove it. I'll record something. Hello, this is he. Now, here you can see that some portion of it is too loud and some portion of it is not okay for that. I already showed you how to do that. But let's see, another method. If you want to selectively increase volume, I'll just select that portion. I can go to Effects volume compression and amplify. You can increase the volume here. Okay. So you can see that if I go too far, the preview and Apply button gets faded out. If you want them to come back, you need to click on Hello clipping. But I wouldn't recommend that that would go too far. So what I'll do is I'll just come to the place where they don't get fade out. Click on Apply and you can see it has increased. Okay, Let's hear it again. This is, you need to keep in mind that I have not done the noise reduction at all. Okay. What I'll do is I'll just select them now and just click on Volume Compression. And I'll just go to Normalize and click Apply. Now you can see it's with the noise Hello, This is Amend. I forgot to do the noise reduction, but I would always recommend doing the noise reduction. First, select the noise portion, go to Effects, then go to the noise remote and repair. Click on noise reduction, get the noise. Then select the entire track. Okay, Then go to Effects Noise, remo pair noise reduction, and click on. Okay, that does the job. Hello, this is this part. You can see that it's not that clear because it was recorded very low and we increased the volume. It's still not that good. This is okay. I'll just delete this and record a new one. Hello, this is Men and your learning. Udacity. I'll just remove the noise select noise noise reduction. Get noise profile. I'll select the entire track effect. Noise remo noise reduction. Okay. Now the noise has been reduced. I'll just get it normalized. Volume compression, normal apply. Now I'll show you how to change the pitch off it. Okay. I'll just double click it to select the entire effect. And then pitch in tempo and click on Change Pitch. What change pitch does is it changes the pitch off your voice. Okay? If you drag it towards left, your voice sounds thicker. If you drag it towards right, your voice sounds like a chipmunk. Okay, let's see. First with the left side. I'll just move to the left side a bit and let's see the preview. Hello, this is Ember and your learning dack. I'll just do it a bit more. Preview. Okay, if I just get back to zero here now you can see it's almost zero. And now if I go towards, right, Hello, this is Amanda, and you're learning Audacity. Okay. I'll just do it a bit more, ma, so you get an idea how to change the voice. Okay. If you simply click on Apply, it'll be applied. I don't want to do that, so I'll just move it up. Okay. Next I'll show you how to change the speed and the difference between the speed and tempo, okay? So if I click on Effect, this is selected. Keep that in mind. Click on Effect, go to pitch and tempo, and then select the change speed. Okay? If I want to make it slower, I'll pull it towards the left. If I want to make it faster, I'll pull it towards the right. Okay, so first let's go with the slower one. So I just pull it back. Let's take a preview. Hello, this is member and you learning mode. Now you can see that it's just slowing down my voice, but it's also changing the pitch off it. Okay, so this is the problem with the change speed. If I just pull it forward to make it faster, let's see that preview. Okay, It's making it faster, but also changing my voice like a chipmunk. If you don't want to change the pitch off your audio while changing the speed, then you need to use the temper one. Okay, select this, go to Effect Pitch and Tempo, and click on Change Tempo Instead, if I just slow it down by going towards the left one, I'll just hit the preview button here, Learning Day. So now we can see that it has not changed my pitch. Instead it just slowed down the audio track. If I just move it towards the right and now let's see, hello, this is learning day. It has changed the speed of my audio but did not change the pitch. That is changed tempo, so now let's see reverse first, I'll remove the unnecessary part from here and here. Okay, And I'll select this track. I'll go to Effects Special. And here you can see something called reverse. If I click on reverse now it'll be interesting. Let's listen to it. I have never learned this language. Hope you might have also not heard it right. It's simply reversing your audio, which sounds like this song. A. I'll just undo it by pressing control, and now. Hello, this is Amanda and your learning Udacity. Okay. Right. Now, in case you want to repeat it multiple number of times, what you can do is you can simply go to effect special repeat. For example, I want to repeat it two times more, okay? So I'll click on Apply. And you can see it repeats two more times. So I'll just remove them in case you want to cut from here. Okay, You want to make a cut from here. What I'll do is I'll put the cuss at that point and you can press control to split it up. When you press control, it gets splitted into two parts. I'll just delete the entire track and let's record another track to show you the next thing. In some movies you might have seen, wherever the person is saying some bad words, they just beep it up. Right? Let's see how they beep it up. Hello, I'm hem, I want you to beep this word right now here I'm cursing, Okay. So this should be beep. I'll just simply normalize it without just doing the noise reduction thing because that would save some time. Okay. I'll just normalize it. Apply Hello. I'm ma, I want you to be wherever I'm saying. Beep. I want to beep it up. Okay. I just selected that portion. Okay. Now, in case you want to select it precisely. Okay. It's going somewhere like this. If you want to zoom it, if you're using mouse and you're on Windows, hold the control button from your keyboard. Okay? Place the cursor wherever you want to zoom and scroll it up. Okay? This will zoom it up in case you don't have a mouse. What you can do is the numbers which are on the top, not on the side. You can press control one to zoom and control three to zoom out in case you don't want to do it like this. Here is the shortcut, okay? Zoom in control one, you can see zoom out control three. You may click these as well. Can now adjust it like this. One more thing. If you want to make your track fit to the width control, you can press and if you want to fit it to the height control shift F, okay, I wouldn't do that. If there are multiple tracks, you can do control shift to fit it to the height. Okay. This thing is selected now. Now I want to just beep it up. I'll go to Generate Here, and then here there is something called tone. Okay. I'll click on that tone. Let's, let's see. I want you to this word for example, this cursing is in actual cursing, I'll just select that thing, generate tone. So let's see here. Okay, so this should be beeped. That's it. Now along with this, let's learn if you want to silence something. Okay, so I selected this part. I don't want to delete it, I can just select it and press Delete Key from the keyboard. It will remove it, but I don't want to remove it. I want that place, but it should not sound anything. I'll just click on Generate and Silence. Click on Generate. Now, see it has got silence there. Hello? I'm in the. Okay. Okay. Now I'll remove this and I'll just show you how to import an audio inside. Okay, let's minimize this. On the desktop, you can see there is an audio which I have taken from my Youtube studio, Okay? So this is the track, okay? So I'll just get it inside. So there are a couple of ways of getting it in. One, you can just simply drag it inside. Okay, that's a method, one else you can click on File, Import Audio, and you can select your desktop. And then select it, okay. In both ways, you can get it inside. Once done, okay. It's in studio track, so it's visible like double. So don't worry about it may reduce it as well. Okay, to get it full, I already told you that you can just click control left and it takes the full width. Now if I want to record something in new track, you already know that I can press Shift R. Hello. This is Amend. And you're watching Audacity tutorial right now, Right with me. Let's see how to do auto duck. I have just recorded audio. Okay. What I'll do is I'll just play Hello. This is Edata tutorial with me for example, if I want this audio after some time, after some time, music starts. Okay, So I'll just move it here. Let's hello, this is amending now. Audio is not properly audible, right? So what we'll do is we'll just simply select this track. Instead, I would like to just zoom it here by pressing hold control and scrolling my mouse. Well, or else you can do it from here as well. I already told you. Okay, I have zoom this portion here. Now what I'll do is I'll just first amplify my voice. Okay? You need to do noise reduction and everything, but I'll just simply normalize it as of now, volume compression normalize. This time I'll go up to minus one, D, B maybe. Okay, amplify. Now you can see this peak is taking away all the room. What I'll do is I'll just click on Effect limiter, volume compression limiter. I'll just limit it up again. I'll normalize. Okay? You may do it more as per your requirements, but right now I'll just play it directly. Hello, this is an and you're watching still. This is not clear what you will use. You will use something called Auto Duck. You need to select that music track, double click it from Volant Compression, click on Autodock. What is Autoche volume is it detects that and lowers the music volume at that portion. Okay, if it goes suddenly that doesn't look nice. What it does is it fades and fades out. Okay? Before the, before it ducks the volume. How much fade in? Fade out is required, Should be selected from here. Okay? It's 0.45 seconds and 0.38 seconds. Let's make it both 0.45 Why not? Okay. Now, how much the portion should you can select as per your requirement or else you can go with the defaults as well. Let's apply and see, you should see the change here, okay? Here and here, okay, apply. And you can see, let's play and see, hello, this is amend and you're watching Audacity tutorial. Okay, now let's do another experiment. What I'll do is I'll just split the track here, make a move. Split the track here. Control make a move. Okay, Something like this. And now let's select this effect, Volume compression, auto duck. And this time I'll just make it direct. Almost direct. Okay, So ten I guess. Let's apply and see. You can see wherever there is audio it has detected and gone down. Wherever there is not, it brings the volume up again. Let's explain. Hello, this is Evander Audacity tutorial right now. Okay, so I hope you understood this Autodock feature. You might also have a doubt that can I do it manually or not. So you can definitely do it manually as well. So I'll just hit the control head here. Okay. Now if I want to do it manually, what I'll do is I'll just select this envelope tool here. Okay? The shortcut is F two, so I'll click on it. I click here, once again. Here. Okay, till here. It needs to get hold of it. And from here I'll drop it down again. I'll hold the second point and make it down. Okay. I'm doing it in reverse. Sorry for that. I need to hold it from here and I'll take it down. Same here. I'll take it down and increase from here. Now you can see this is done manually using Envelope tool Hello. This is Vender. Okay. You can do it manually as well. I'll just do it by pressing control. I'll remove this audio from the bottom. Now, I'll just get back to the selection tool. Okay. And now I'll show you how to do the fade in, fade out effect. For example, I'm taking a Music okay, and I'm just cutting it from certain point. For example, let's do it practically, okay? So I'll just hit control F, so that the track fits the entire width, okay? And I'll just select a random portion and I'll make a split by using control shortcut, okay? And I'll select the starting part and remove it by pressing delete key. And now I'm getting it at the beginning. Okay, So I'll just get it like this. Now if I play, it's starting suddenly, right? So what I need to do is, and also I need it till here, I'll make a cut again. Here. Control. I'll split it up. Delete it. And now let's see the ending as well. It's almost good, but if you want to make it much more smoother, you need to use fade in. Fade out. I'll select certain portion here, go to Effect, and then go to fading. And click on fade in. Now you can see it's starting slowly. Okay? Something like that. The same thing if you want to do with the ending. You'll select that portion and go to effect fading. And click on fade out. Okay? Now in case, imagine you have multiple tracks here. Okay? I'll just copy this. You can just simply select click control D as well. It will give you more tracks. Okay, I already told you if you want to adjust the height, I mean zoom in. Zoom in to fit. So you can press Control Shift. And now you can see it has zoomed properly so that everything fits in almost okay. If there are too many tracks, it wouldn't do that. It won't fit all at once, okay? It'll do the best. For example, you're working on multiple tracks and you want to rename them or make a color coding out of it. You can do that as well. Here on the name, I'll just click on this arrow and click on Name. And you can name it, for example, one. Okay, Track one. You can name it something else. So that you can name it like this. Two what we say, Music or something like that. You can rename it if you want to differentiate them visually, you can do it via colors. I'll just select this wave color and I'll make it instrument two, for example. Whatever belongs to that category, I'll just turn them red. Okay? For example, I want to change the color of it, wave color instrument three, okay? This is for example, instrument for something like that you can do the color coding. Okay. This will help you understand it easily. I'll just delete them all. Once again, import the audio track, okay? And I will record one voice over here, for example. I'll just record my voice again. So I'll just press shift R. Hello. This is band and you're learning audacity. Okay? So in case I want to listen only to this track and not to this track, there are a couple of ways I can either mute it up and listen. Hello, this is okay. Else what I can do is if there's so many tracks, I can't go muting each and every track, right? So I can just simply click on this solo here, so it'll mute everything except this. Okay, Now if Hello, this is band you're learn audacity. Okay. So in case you're using your earphones or headphones, something like that, you will feel this effect. Which I'm going to say now, sometimes you hear some music like playing in your left ear ones and right ear on. What you can do is if I want this to be heard in my right ear, I'll just pull this towards R. If this should be heard in your left ear, I'll just pull this towards left. I'm panning it. Okay, so let's hear it once. Hello, this is band and you're learning audacity. Okay. You can make efforts like this as well. I'll just reset it. I'll just solo it once. Okay, And remove the unnecessary portion. I'll just normalize it. Hello, this is band and you're learning Audacity. Make sure you know that I have not done the noise reduction part, so there could be some disturbance. What I'll do is I'll just make a copy of this track now, control D, and here we go. I'll select this track. I could directly apply the next effort, which I'm going to show on this track itself, but I would like to do it separately. Okay. So that you can have control on it. I would just remove the solo from it. Okay. I will mute the track for now. Now what I'll do is I'll just select this track. Okay. And go to effect reverb delay here, I'll use reverb is a room resound thing, okay? For example, there are several presets. If I go to factory reset and if I select bathroom, let's hear a preview of it. Hello, this is band and you're learning audacity. So something like that. Okay, so I'll just go to the defaults and you can play with the room size and all, so you get different variations. But now what I want to do is I don't want to hear my vocal. I most probably want to hear the only sound effect that the riva bits making. What I'll do is Vet only. But before that, let me give you a preview of it. Hello, this is Hebda. You're learning audacity, okay? Now if I click on Only, okay. So this is the difference. So I'll just click on Apply. Now what happens is I can just the volume from here, how much effect do I need? Okay, So I'll just play it once. Hello, this is Bender. Okay, now this is also playing in. This is also playing, so we're getting both the effects. What I'll do is I'll just reduce the intensity of it. I'll mute it up. Let's play it. And I'll remove the mute in between. Hello, this is Bender, and you're learning audacity. Okay. You can see the difference for you to observe. I'll just make it a bit more. I'll mute it up. Play it again. Hello, this is band and you're learning audacity, so you can see the difference. Okay, Now let's mute the music as well. Okay? And I would like to manually take it down a bit. Let's hear it now. Hello, this is band and you're learning audacity. Okay. I have already showed you how to increase the base and treble thing also. You can try that as well. So I'll just select this. Effects first, I'll go with the compressor. Apply. Okay, hello, this is Hebdo is. I'll just simply go to effects filter curve and apply this. Hello, this is Hedda. Now if I want to boost the base, what I'll do is I'll just simply go to filters, graphic resets. And then I'll just simply select base boost from here. Apply. Let's see, hello, this is Bender and you're learning audacity. Okay, there's a lot to learn in Audacity. This is just a quick guide on how to record your vocals and some basics. Okay, let's see how to save the project and how to export the audio. Okay, There's a difference between them. So I'll just simply click on File, Save Project. Say Project As, or Save Project, Whatever you can do. Okay. I'll click on okay. And now I'll select the desktop. And I'll name it, for example, my project, okay? And I'll save it up.
