1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends. How are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'd like to introduce you to this course. This is a drawing and painting course, and it was designed especially for kids and beginners. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience to be successful in this course. I will guide students step-by-step through the entire creative process. So they will feel comfortable at all times. In this course, students will create artwork inspired by the warm days of summer. I'm excited to teach students how to draw and paint a fish with patterns. Hallow summer sign, a dolphin at sunset, and a surfing bear. Let's talk about the supplies in the materials that you will need for this entire course. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. For each of the projects. You will need some watercolor paints and a paintbrush. These are two different size paint brushes that you might consider using. But if you don't have these sizes, that's okay, just use what you have available to you. You will need a cup or a bowl with clean water. You will need some oil pastels or some crayons. Either one will work. You will need a permanent marker. It means that the ink and the marker will not run around on your piece of paper. If you add water or watercolor paints to it, and you will need a paper towel. So go ahead and collect these items and then we will get started on our first project. 2. Let's Draw and Paint a Fish!: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project. And today we are going to be creating this really awesome fish. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paint and a paintbrush. You will also need a cup or a bowl with clean water. And then you will need a black oil pastel or a black crown and a yellow or orange oil pastel or crayon. So yellow or orange, you don't need both, just one or the other. The last thing that you'll need is a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. In this step, we're going to draw our fish design. So let's get started. We're going to orient our paper landscape, the landscape way, which is going back and forth this way as opposed to up and down with our piece of paper. Because we're going to make our fish going across our piece of paper like this. Our fish is going to be large. So keep that in mind as you're drawing. Small fish are so cute, aren't they? But we want to be able to see this fish from across the room if we're looking at it on the wall. So we want it to be nice and big. Go ahead and pick up either your yellow oil pastel or crayon or your orange oil pastel or crayon, I'm going to use my orange. And the reason why is because I want you to be able to see my drawing on the video. Okay? So come in a little bit from the left edge just to CAD. And we're going to make a curved line. And like I said, our fish is going to be fairly large. So we want to make a curve line that is fairly large. And we want to leave some space here on the right hand side for a tail. So now we have our curve line, that's the top of our fish. Now we're going to come back to this area right here. And then we're going to come down and come back up. But we're not going to close this shape right here because we want to create a tail. Now you can create any tail that you'd like, any style tail that you'd like. If you want a really huge tail you can make that are really small tail, It's up to you. I'm going to make a tail with a slightly curved line this way, a slightly curved line this way. And then come in and then come out. That's the type of tail I'm going to make. Alright, the next thing that we're going to do is we're going to add some detail on the inside of our fish's body. So you get to make any lines or patterns that you would like to with your orange or your yellow oil pastel or crayon. I'm just going to start making patterns. I'm going to start right here with a straight line because I want to section off the head from the body. Now, I am going to just start making my patterns. So I think what I'll do first is I'll make a curve line. And then I'll make another curve line. Then maybe I'll make a wavy line. And then maybe I'll make another curve line. Now up here at the top in this space right here, I think I'm going to make some circles. They'll probably be pretty large for this space. Sometimes I don't know until I'm actually drawing if they're going to be small or big. Now I think down here I will make some smaller circles. And then down here I think I'll make some scales. And those are just going to be some curved lines that are connected together the way across. But as I said before, you can make any type of pattern that you'd like. Just fill in those spaces. Alrighty. So after we have all of our patterns in our spaces filled up, then what we're going to do is if you'd like to, we're going to put a little bit of detail in the tail. We're going to make a fin on the back. It can be any type of offender you'd like. You can have just a wavy line like I made, or you can have your fin de more pointed. It's up to you. Then I think I'll even make a small thin down here at the bottom. Here we go. Now that we've created our fish design, what we're going to do next is we're going to take our black oil pastel or crayon. And we're going to add some details. So I'm going to make, and I write here, it's pretty large. I'm not going to make a mouth on this fish, but if you want to make a mouth like a little smile or something, you can go ahead and do that. Then down here at the bottom, if you have some space, you can even make some seaweeds, some sand, different details like little shells or starfish. It's up to you. I have a little bit of space. So down here at the very bottom, I'm going to make some sand. It's not going to be a really straight line because it's sand. Then I think right here I'm going to make a few little rocks. So those are just circles with a little bit of seaweed coming up like this. Then maybe I will make a little starfish right here. I love it. I think I'll make some bubbles up here. There we go. Depending on how much space you have on your piece of paper. You can get creative with your background. If you'd like to fill up your background with a lot of different details, go ahead and do that. Alright, I think I'm finished. If you have more drawing to do, go ahead and do that before we add our watercolor paints. In the next step, once you're finished, your hands might be a little bit messy. So why don't you just wipe that off on your handy-dandy paper towel. And I will see you in the next video. In this step we are going to apply some watercolor paints to our design. So let's get started. The first thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to add a drop or two of water into each pan of paint. And what this will do is it will soften up my paints a little bit so they are easier for me to use. So I do encourage students to take that step because it does make it a lot easier to use these paints if they have a little bit of water to dissolve that paint. Now that our paints or softening up, Let's turn our attention to our drawing. So here we have a big fish and we have a background for our fish. We have some seaweed and we have a little bit of sand and some other details. So what we're going to do right now is we're going to paint our fish. And we're going to paint our details. And then we're going to save the background painting for the next step. What you can do is you can think about the color that you'd like to use. For the background. I'm going to use a color that is not an ordinary color for the ocean. I'm going to use the color pink. So if you'd like to use a different color other than the ocean color that we normally see, which is blue or greenish blue or a dark blue. And then you can use a different color as well. So I'm going to use pink for the background. So I'm not going to use pink for my fish because I want to use pink for the background and I want my fish to stand out from the background. I think I'm going to use mostly greens, maybe some blues, and then maybe a little bit of purple or orange. I'm not even sure yet. For the sand down here, I'm going to use a light brown which will be tan, maybe some green and red. And then for these bubbles, I think I'm going to not put any paint on there at all. So I'm going to start out with the sand and I'm going to show you how to make a sand color. I'm going to take a tiny bit of brown and add quite a bit of water. And that will make a really light brown as sand color. So that's what I'm going to do for my sand. And then four. The rocks, I'm going to make a really light gray. So I put some water in one of my wells and I used a little bit of black. And I'm going to paint those rocks gray like a light gray. Then I think I'm going to use red for my starfish. Notice I'm trying to stay inside the lines. Like my starfish to be a darker red. And then for my seaweed, I think I'd like my seaweed to be green. We go. Okay, Now for my fish, I think I'm going to use some blues and some greens, so I'll start out here. I'm going to try to stay inside these lines. But if I go outside of the lines a little bit, that's okay because sometimes it's neat to watch the watercolor paints blend together. So what I'm going to do is I am just going to start painting. And you can watch me. I'll speed up the video and then I'll see you back here in just a minute. The next step, what we're going to do is we're going to come back and paint the background. So I'll see you back here in the next video. In this step, we are going to add some watercolor paint to our background. So let's get started. So as I mentioned before, I'm going to paint my background pink. I know that that's not the typical ocean color, but that's the color that I want to use. So I encourage you Use the color that you'd like to use. So I'm going to make some pink paint by putting a few drops of water and a little bit of paint into one of my Wells. I'm going to test it out on my paper towel, see if I like it. Oh, I love it. Okay. So what I'm going to do is I am going to carefully paint my background. And I will speed up this video so that you can watch me. And I will be back in just a minute. Alrighty friends. I'm finished painting the background of my fish design. I'm really happy with the way that it turned out. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time. 3. Let's Draw and Paint a HELLO SUMMER Sign!: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a hallow summer, a celebration to summer artwork that we are going to be creating today. We're going to be drawing and we're going to be using watercolor paints. So I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paintbrush. I like to use this size. If you'd like to have a smaller paintbrush as well, because we have some small spaces in here, you can go ahead and use a smaller paintbrush. You will need a cup or a bowl with clean water and a permanent marker. Permanent means that the marker will not run around, the ink will not run around if you add water to it. You will also need a paper towel. Go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials. And I'll see you back here in the next video. In this step, we will draw our designs. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we're going to write two words here directly in the middle. Those words are hello and the word summer. And I'm going to show you how to make some really cool letters. Alrighty. You're going to want to go to the middle of your piece of paper. We are going to make our letters pretty big. About two or 2.5 inches tall. If that's in centimeters, it's about three or 3.5 centimeters. Okay. So we're going to put them right here in the middle. We're going to make the letters BIG but not giant because we want to make sure that we can fit all of the letters on a piece of paper. All right, so take the cap off of your marker and we're going to start. If this is the middle of our piece of paper right here, we're going to go up just a little bit, okay? So we'll start in just a bit and we're going to make a straight line. And then we're going to make another straight line right next to the first straight line. And remember if your line isn't perfectly straight, That's okay because you're human being. Let's close up into this shape. That's a really long rectangle. So that's, this is for our h, It's the left side of our letter h. Now we're going to move over a bit and we're going to make another straight line. And then we're going to make another straight line that's running perpendicular to this line and this line. Alright, there's our h. Now let's make an E because we're writing the word hello. So H, e. So we're making a straight line, another straight line. And then we're closing those up. This is the left side, the spine of our e. Now we need to make a line here, a line here that's a little bit smaller. And a line here. You see there's our h and r e. Now we need to make the letter L. So we're going to make two L's actually. So we have this L, So we have straight line, straight line close up and then make a line here at the bottom. And then the same for this L. So two lines and then close those up and make another line here at the bottom. And then for our, oh, we're just going to make the letter O pretty big. Because the OH, has curves. We're not going to use straight lines. We're going to use a curve line right here. On the left-hand side. There's our word hello. If yours is not perfectly level or straight and it has a little bit of curve to it. That's okay, that actually will look great. It doesn't have to be perfect. So we have the word hello. Now we need to have the word summer down here below our word hello. So let's make a capital letter S and that's going to be fairly large. And the kind of like the O doesn't have any straight lines. So we're going to make a curved line here and a curved line here. Then for our u, we're going to make the letter U really large. Then we're going to make a little line here on the left. And another line coming down like this. There's our S and R you. Now for the letter M, we're going to make a straight line, another straight line in close that up. Then we're going to make a V. And another straight line. There's our n. Then we have another m that we're going to make exactly like this one. So we have SUM. I'm going to make a straight line, a straight line, and close those up to make a long rectangle. And then a V, and then another straight line. Alright, now we're going to make, Let's see, SUM and E. So we need a straight line, a straight line. Close those up in like this E. We're going to make a line, a shorter line, and a longer line. Sum m e. Now we need to make an r. So let's make a straight line, a straight line. Close those up. There's the spine of our R. And then we're going to make a curve line. Then a slanted line. There we go. We have hello, summer. Remember if your letters don't look exactly like mine, that's okay. Remember I've had a lot of practice creating letters like this. And what you can take away from this lesson, one thing that you can take away is that you can make more letters like this. You can make any letter in the alphabet. Just add a little bit of thickness to the left-hand side. Alright, now that we have our letters in our words that say hello summer, let's add an exclamation mark right here. We have a straight line, a straight line. Close those app. And little square right here at the bottom. Alright? So what we're going to do next is we're going to make a happy sunshine up here, coming up from the hallow summer. So I'm going to start about right here and make a curved line about like that. And then I'm going to make an upside down U, which connects this line to this line. Drawing slowly and carefully. So I do my best work. Now that we have the main part of our Sun, Let's add some rays. You can add the rays along this area. And you can have some triangles, or you can have some really long rectangles, or you can have lines. It's up to you how you would like the rays of your son. I think I'm going to make the type of ray that looks like this. So some curved lines that just come out like this. They almost look like petals. So I'm just going to go along that top line of my son and I'm going to make some rays. Alright, now that I have the rays for my son, I'm going to make some eyes and they're going to be pretty wide set, meaning they're not going to be very close together. You can make any eyes, any type of eyes that you like. I'm making a little bit like an oval I with a circle at the top and then I'm going to fill them in with marker. So that's a little shine mark there at the top of that oval. You can make any eye any type of phi that you'd like for your son. You can make smiling eyes where they're just lines that are upside down use or you can make just plain circles. It's up to you. Now you can make a mouth. You decide what kind of mouth that you'd like to make. I think I'm going to make a mouth that looks like this, a line. So there's the top part of my mouth and then underneath I'm going to make a u that connects those two ends of the line and then a line coming across like this and these are going to be teeth right here. I like that kind of a smile for a son. Now I may or may not add some cheeks right here as I'm painting. I'm not sure if I'm going to do that. There'll be pink if I decide to do that. Now I'm going to make a slice of watermelon underneath the words hello summer. And the slice of watermelon is going to be about this big. It's not going to be giant, but it's not going to be tiny. I'm going to make a slightly curved line right under that word summer. And I'm going to make a u that attaches the two ends of those lines. Then I'm going to move in a little bit and I'm going to make another you following along that first line. Then what I'm going to do is I am going to make some seeds, some black seeds. Just kinda sprinkle those seeds throughout this watermelon. So now you can think of some designs that you'd like to add to the sides of your artwork. I'm just going to add some little splashes here, and maybe some little circles. Maybe one right here. I'm not going to put too many on there, but I just want it to look like there's some summer fun right here. So maybe I'll add a few little circles. You can add any types of shapes that you'd like. It's completely up to you. You want to add some hearts, are some stars. This is your artwork so you get to add what you'd like. I think that I'm happy with mine. If there's anything else that you would like to add to your artwork, go ahead and do that now before we start adding our watercolor paints. In the next step, I will show you how to use your watercolor paints on our Hello summer artwork. In this step we are going to paint our design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we're going to add a drop or two of water to each pan of paint. And what this will do is it will soften up our watercolor paints so they are easier for us to use. So go ahead and take a moment to do that as it really does help. Now that our paints are softening up, Let's turn our attention to our design and talk about colors. Because this is your artwork. You get to choose the colors that you'd like to choose. I'm going to choose a yellow for the sun and a red and a green for the watermelon. And I think for the background, I'm going to choose a blue. I'm not quite sure the colors that I'm going to paint my hello summer letters. I'm not sure on that yet. And I'm not sure about the little splashes, maybe a different shade of blue I might use. But because I do know that my son is going to be yellow. And because that's a very light color, I'm going to start there. I'm going to be very careful about staying inside the lines, but I'm going to understand that if my paint goes outside of the lines a little bit, that's going to be no problem. That's what watercolor paint loves to do. Run around. As you can see, my son is pretty bright and that's how I want it to be. So I'm adding just a little bit of water to my paints, but I'm adding a lot of paint. So if you want bright colors, you add a lot of paint and a little bit of water. And if you want really soft colors, pale colors, then you add more water and less paint. So I'm going to be very careful as I'm painting in my arrays because this is a very small space. Going to do the best that I can. Then I'm going to move to my watermelon and I'm going to paint that. I will see you back here. I'll speed up the video a little bit. I'll see you back here in just a minute. Alrighty friends. I'm back and I'm finished painting my son. I still need to paint the inside of the sun's mouth. I'm finished painting my watermelon and my letters, and my little designs, my little splash marks and circles. So the next thing that I'm going to do when I come back is I'm going to paint the background. So I will see you back here in the next video. In this step we are going to paint the background. So let's get started. So let's talk about the colors that you can choose. For your background. You can choose multiple different colors if you'd like, or you can choose one color. I'm going to choose just one color and that's the color blue. I've made a little bit of blue paint right here. And the way that I did that is I put a little bit of blue paint and a lot of water in the the little well, because I want to make sure that this paint is pretty light. I'd like my paint to be light on my piece of paper because I want my son to really pop out and I want watermelon and the letters to really pop out. So I'd like a light blue background. As I said before, you get to choose the colors that you like. And just think about what you think would look the best. So we're going to paint slowly and carefully so we do our best work. I hope you can see this on my piece of paper. If you can't let me describe it to you. It's a fairly light blue and that's what I want it to look like. I want it to be pretty light because I want those other colors to really stand out. So I want it that color to be pretty light. What I'm going to do is I'm going to carefully try to stay on this side of the line because I don't want my colors to mix a lot. And I'm going to also understand that if my paint starts running into other colors, that's okay. Alrighty friends. I'm going to speed up this video and I'll be back in just a minute. Alrighty friends. I'm back and I'm finished painting my background. The last thing that I'm going to do is put a little tiny bit of gray inside the mouth of my son. And to make gray, I'm going to put a tiny dot of black inside one of my wells and I'm going to carefully put a little bit of gray. All right, friends. So there we go, our Hello, summer artwork. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I really had a lot of fun teaching it. And I will see you next time. 4. Let's Draw and Paint a Dolphin at Sunset!: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this lesson with you. This is a dolphin at sunset. And we are going to be drawing and painting today. We're going to be using our watercolor paints. So I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a piece of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paintbrush. I like to use this size paintbrush. But if you have a different size that you like to use, go ahead and use that. You will also need a cup or a bowl with clean water. You will need a black crayon, and you will also need a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials. And I'll see you back here in the next video. In this step, we are going to draw our design. So let's get started. Go ahead and pick up your black crayon and find the middle of your piece of paper. The middle of my piece of paper is about right here. You're going to go pretty close to the end of your piece of paper. I would say about two or three for you. Finger spaces. Your fingers are probably smaller than mine. So go about three fingers spaces from the edge of your piece of paper. And what we're going to do is we're going to draw a curve line from here. We're going to arch it and then we're going to land about here, not all the way to the edge of our paper, but about three finger spaces away from the end here. So watch what I do. I start about right here. I'm going to go up with a pretty straight line. And then I'm going to start an arch. I'm going to come around like this. Then I'm going to stop a little bit further down from this one. So if you're drawing a straight line here, It's a little bit further down your piece of paper. Alright, now that we have our arch, what we're going to do next, we are going to make our dolphins nose and mouth. So coming from this line here, we're going to make a curve line coming around like this. This is going to be the top part of his nose. And then what we're going to do next is we're going to come in just a little bit. We're going to come down. And then over like this. So this is the top part of his mouth and nose and this is the bottom part of his mouth. Now what we're going to do is we are going to go a little bit further with this line. And we're going to stop about right here. Now what we're going to do is we're going to make a thin. So the fin is going to have a curve line. We're going to go up a little bit, make a curve line and come down. See how I made that curved line right here. And look at where this intersects, right here. It goes a little bit up. This line is curved line that I just made goes up a little bit. Now we're going to scooch over just a little bit, maybe about two or three finger spaces. And we're going to make another curve line and we're going to connect right here. This is going to be one of our fins on our dolphin. Now what we're going to do is we're going to follow this line here. We're going to jump over that thin and we're going to come out the other side down and then meet at a point right here. This is going to be the base of our tail for our dolphin. Remember, if your dolphin doesn't look exactly like mine, that's actually a really good thing. We want your dolphin to look like your dolphin right? Now that we have drawn the main part of our body for our dolphin, we're going to create the tail. So we're going to have a curve line coming up like this. Then if your tail goes off of your piece of paper, that's okay. And then we're going to curve down, right? It's almost like a teardrop shape. So come up to a point and then come down. That's going to be the tail. Now let's go back up to the top of our dolphin. And let's create the top fin. So curved line. And then a curved line coming in. There we go. Now let's add a little bit of detail. Let's make a blow hole right here. Let's make an eye that is closed right here. Almost looks like our dolphin is smiling, right? Alright, so that's the basic shape of our dolphin. Now that we have drawn our dolphin, Let's create a background. So I'm going to have my dolphin jumping out of the water. So I'm going to make my water down a little bit from my dolphin. And I'm just going to make some curved lines that are connected together like this. There we go. Now I'm going to add a little bit more Water, little tiny waves, maybe one more here. You can add as many waves as you'd like. If there's something else that you'd like to add inside the water, you can go ahead and do that as well. Some little fish would be cute. All right, now let's make some drops coming down from the tail because our dolphin just jumped out of the water. So let's make some little splashes. Now let's add something in the sky. You can add some clouds or you can add a sun. I think I'm going to add a sun right here in the corner. Maybe I'll even put a little smile on my son because this is a cartoon little smile. And then I'll add some rays going around. And those are just going to be some curved lines that are connected together. You know, of a different way to make raise for your son. You can go ahead and make your raise any way that you'd like. Sometimes I use some triangles going all the ROI around or sometimes I just use straight lines. But for this project I decided to use this type of array. Alright, I think that I'm finished, but if there's anything else that you'd like to add to your drawing, go ahead and do that now before we start painting. In the next step, we will add some watercolor paint to our design. In this step we are going to add some watercolor paints to our design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we're going to add a drop or two of water to each pan of paint. And what this will do is it will soften up our paints a little bit, so it will make them easier for us to use. So I really encourage students to take a moment to add a drop or two of water to each pan of paint. Now that our paints or softening up a bit, Let's turn our attention to our design. So in this part of our project, you get to pick the colors that you would like to paint your design. It's up to you. I'm going to paint my dolphin, blew, my water blue. And I'm going to have a sunset sky. So I'm going to paint my sky a combination of orange and yellow. It's completely up to you as to the colors that you would like to use. So just because I'm using a certain set of colors, does not mean that you need to use the same color. So I'm going to start painting my dolphin first. And I'm going to paint him this shade of blue. Going to add some paint to one of my wells and I'm going to add some water to that, test it out. Oh, I like that color. I am going to try to stay inside the lines for this project. Already friends. I'm finished painting the dolphin. And for the water down here, I have mixed up a couple of different colors together. I have mixed a darker blue and a lighter blue because I wanted the color to be a little bit different from the dolphin just a little bit. So that looks pretty similar. Let me add a little bit more of this lighter blue and see what happens. Alrighty friends, I'm finished painting the dolphin and the ocean. I'm not sure if you can see on the video, but the colors, the blue colors are a little bit different from each other. Alright, the next thing that we're going to do in the next video is we're going to paint the sky and the sun. So I will see you back here in the next video. In this step, we are going to paint our background. We're going to paint the sky and the sun. So let's get started. As I mentioned before, I am going to paint a sunset sky, which is going to be a combination of yellow and orange. You can paint any sky that you'd like. But that's what I am going to do. I'm going to start out with my yellow and paint my son yellow. And then I'm going to move to the sky. Okay. I'm going to use some yellow. I'm going to also use some orange. So I'm going to go ahead and speed up the video. And I will be back in just a minute. Alrighty friends, I'm finished painting my design. I'm really happy with the way that it turned out. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time. 5. Let's Draw and Paint a Surfing Bear!: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project. And today we will be creating this cute bear who is surfing on a wave. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a piece of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paintbrush. You will also need a cup or a bowl with clean water. And a permanent marker. Permanent marker means that the ink will not run around if you add water to it. You will also need a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials. And I'll see you back here in the next video. In this step, we are going to draw our surfing bear design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is find the middle of our piece of paper. The middle of my piece of paper is right here. And what we're going to do is we're going to create a circle right here above the middle line. That is going to be the head and face of our surfing bear. So let's go ahead and make a medium size circle. Not too big. If your circle is not perfect, like my circles not perfect. That's okay. It's really challenging to make a perfect circle, even for me and I've been making circles for a lot of years. So whatever type of shape that you have, even if it's not a perfect circle. That's okay. Let's make some ears coming off of the top side of your circle. And then we're going to come down here to the lower part of our piece of paper. Starting here at the bottom part of our circle. What we're going to do is we're going to make a slightly curved line coming down. And we're going to do the same thing on the other side. Now we're going to come in a little bit. Come in a little bit from those initial lines, and then make an upside down U that connects these two lines right here. This is going to be the body of our surfing bear. Now let's make this surfing bears arms and legs. So the arms will come out from the side. You can make them up, you could make them down, you can make them slanted like mine. Maybe on this one I'll go a little bit more straight out like this. That way my bear can balance. Alright, now let's come down here to the lower part underneath the little pants. And we're going to make some little legs. Curved lines. Now that we have the basic shape of our surfing bear, what we're going to do is we're going to cut back up to the face and we're going to add some details. So let's make an oval towards the bottom of our circle. That's going to be the nose area. Make a line towards the top but not touching the top. And then a V enclosed that up. So it looks like an upside-down triangle. Let's make a straight line coming down from the bottom of that triangle and then a curved line for a little smile. Now what we're going to do is we're going to come back and we're going to make some eyes. I'm going to make my eyes pretty wide set, meaning that they're not going to be too close together, but I am going to want to make them a roughly the same size. The next thing that we're going to do is we're going to add some little swim trunks down here at the bottom. I'm going to make a curve line. Then I'm going to add a design down here with my marker. You can add some flowers or you can add some stripes or some squares or circles. It's up to you. I'm going to add some stripes. So it just gives a little bit more detail to these shorts. There we go. Alright, the next thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to add a little bit of detail into the ears. Then I'm going to start working on my background. So because this is a surfing pair, we're going to make a surf board down here at the bottom. Let me show you how we're going to do that. It's going to be a small surfboard because we don't have a lot of space down here. So what we're going to do is we're going to start about right here and make a curve line. Jump over the bearers leg, come out in the middle and then jump over again and then come out and then end up, uh, roughly the same space that we did over here. My areas a little bit smaller and that's okay. Now we're going to make a curve line coming down and then going back up. So we connect those two lines. Then I'm going to make a triangle down here at the bottom. And then you can decorate your surf board in a way that you'd like. I am just going to make a stripe down the middle. Did you notice how I jumped over the legs of my surfing bear? I'm going to make one stripe going down the middle. Alright, the next thing that we're going to do is we're going to make some waves down here at the bottom. We're going to make a wave coming up from the bottom. So I'm going to come up and it's going to be a little bit of a splashy wave. So some curved lines. Let me show you how I did that. I made a curved line coming up from the surf board and then I came in with a curved line, came out with a curve line in and out, and then all the way back down. Right? I'm going to make a little bit of a wave up here at the front. Curved lines, same as in the back. Then I think what I'll do is I'll make some little water drops. You can make as many water drops as you'd like if you want to make some back here, maybe look like little raindrops, don't they? Now I'm going to create some water in the background. We'll just go like this. I think that's good. Now I think what I'll do is I'll add a little bit more detail down here at the bottom. So I'll add a few more little waves. I just like to make little lines, little curved lines, and that reminds me of a wave. Here we go. It reminds me of water. Alright, if there's anything else you'd like to add down here, at this point you can do so. I'm going to move up to the top of my piece of paper now. And because this bear is surfing, I'd like to make a small son here at the top. I'm going to make a circle. Then I'm going to make some rays. Going around that circle. There are different ways that you can make rays. You can just make lines coming out if you'd like. Or you can make triangles. I've done that before. It's up to you. I think I'll even put little Smiley face inside my son. So upside-down, u's like this. And then maybe a very small smile. If you'd like to add anything else to your artwork. Now's the time to do that. You can add some clouds or a bird, anything that you'd like to add into the sky. You can do that at this point. After you're finished drawing. Take the cap off of the back of your marker, put it back on. Your marker, doesn't dry out. And in the next step, we will add some watercolor paints. In this step we're going to add some watercolor paints. So let's get started. The first thing that we'll want to do is prepare our paints. So we're going to add a drop or two of water to each pan of paint. And what that will do is it will soften up our paints and that will make our paints easier to use. So I really do like to take that step. Now that our paints or softening up, Let's turn our attention to our drawing. So I am going to paint my bear brown. I'm going to paint the water blue, the sky blue as well. The sun maybe maybe yellow or maybe an orange-ish color. The trunks on the bear. I'm not quite sure what color I'm going to paint those yet. And the surf board, I'm not sure either. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to remind you that because this is your artwork, you get to choose the colors that you'd like. Alrighty. So I am going to start by painting some cheeks, some pink cheeks on my bear. Because I like that luck where you see a cartoon animal and you see those pink cheeks. So I'm going to make some circles for my pink cheeks. And I'm also going to paint the inside of the ears pink as well. There we go. Now I'm going to show you a trick. So I want to lighten up the pink on the little cheeks. So I'm going to hover over my pink cheeks with the handy-dandy paper towel. And I'm going to soak up some of that color. So the color gets a little bit lighter. See how that works. So if you ever see an area where you think has a little bit too much extra paint? You can just soak that up with your paper towel. Now that I have my pink, I think I'll move to my yellow sun. Move to my yellow sun because I would like to paint that yellow. I am going to try to stay inside the lines, but I'm not going to worry about it too much. If I do go outside of the lines. There we go. Now what I'm going to do is I'm just going to move on to my bear and my surf board. So I'm going to choose some brown. And I'd like my bear to be not a really, really dark brown. But not a really, really light brown either, maybe a medium brown. Yes, that's perfect. So I added a little bit of water along with a little bit of paint. And I mixed it inside of my pan right here. And I came up with a certain perfect shade of brown. Alrighty friends, I'm finished painting the bear and a surfboard and the sun. I did paint this little nose area of the bear a really, really light brown. You might think that it's white because it's so light. But I just added a really large amount of water to my brown paint and it turned into a very light brown. I'm going to wait until the end to paint my nose because I want it to be a gray color and I usually use the black last. The black. I usually make the gray with the black. When we come back, we will be painting the background. In this step, we are going to paint the background. So let's get started. I'm going to paint the waves and the water a dark blue. And I'm going to paint this guy a lighter blue. I'm going to start with the waves because I want to show you something. I want a little bit of white to be on the tips of these waves. So I'm going to put some of this dark blue inside one of my wells. And when I paint, I'm not going to go all the way to the end of those lines because I want to leave a little bit of whitespace. So it looks like a little bit of froth on those waves. Do you see how I did that? So I like that look, so I wanted to do that. And I will also do that on this wave as well. So I'll leave a little bit of white there at the tip. So it looks like a little bit of froth on. Those waves, I'm going to paint everything else blue. Down here at the bottom. Maybe a little blue right here and right here. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to speed up this video. Then you can watch me. And I'll see you back here in just a minute. Alrighty friends. I'm finished painting the background and I really am happy with it. I decided to paint these two little drops blue and then leave these two drops white. I think it looks awesome. I also decided to leave this stripe right here white and the stripes on the swim trunks white as well. The last thing that I'm going to do is paint that little nose gray. To make gray. You take a little tiny bit of black and a lot of water. And you will be able to make a gray. You have to be very careful when you're filling in the space because it can take over. Let's see, do you see what's happening right now? Taking over that space. So you take your handy-dandy paper towel and you just lift up that color. And because it didn't have a lot of paint in it, it lifted up very, very well. Now I can go back and I can add some more black. I'm going to be very careful this time adding that black. It's actually a gray because it has a lot of water in it. There we go. And if I want to take up some of that paint because it has a lot of water in it. I just hover over with my paper towel. If I still feel like it's not quite dark enough, let me show you another trick. You can take off some of the water with your handy-dandy paper towel. You just wipe your paintbrush onto your paper towel. And then it will get most of the water off. And then you can try again. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt to get it right. And that even happens to me, even though I've been painting since I've been a child, sometimes I want to do things over again and that's okay. All right, friends, I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time. 6. Thank you for Enrolling in This Course: Thank you for enrolling in this course.
