1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'd like to introduce you to this project. This is a drawing and watercolor painting. I, dinosaur project that I designed, especially for kids. You do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will take you step-by-step through all the steps that you need to take. So you will feel comfortable at all times. I'd like to go for the supplies and materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a piece of watercolor paper. You will need some watercolor paints. You will need some water in a bowl or a cup. You will need a paintbrush. You will need a permanent marker. And permanent means that the marker won't run around when you apply water to it and you will need a paper towel. So go ahead and collect all of those supplies and materials. And I'll see you back here in the next video.
2. Step1: Draw a Dinosaur: In this step we're going to draw our dinosaur scene. So let's get started. Let's take the cap off of our marker and put it on the back so it doesn't get lost. And the first thing that we're going to do is we're going to go to the left-hand side of our piece of paper. And we're going to go an inch or two down from the top. And that would be about three or four centimeters. And we're going to make a curved line. Some are going to start about right here. Go slowly and carefully, and then come down and stop before you reach the bottom. Okay. And then you're going to stop about two inches or maybe three or four centimeters. Alright, so we have our curve line. Now what we're going to do is we're going to create the head right here of our dinosaur. So we're going to continue on with this line. Curve around just like this. So it's almost like a backwards letter C. Now we're going to curve around again. Then we're going to come down to about right here. So let me show you what I mean. So we're going to curve around again and then come down. And this is going to be the neck of our dinosaur. So here's our head and then here's our neck. Now, are dinosaurs going to be looking off to the side, kind of behind him? And what we're going to do next is we're going to make his back coming out this way and his tail is going to end up over here. So we're going to do that with a curved line. So we start here where we left off. We go up and we go in an arch, and then we come back down. And then we stop about right there. We're not going to go to the very end of our piece of paper to the very edge. All right, so now we have this shape starting of our dinosaur. We can see the head, the neck, and the back. Now what we're going to do is we're going to make some feet down here at the bottom. So because this is more of a cartoon type dinosaur, it's not going to be that realistic. So we might add some details that we wouldn't normally see in this type of a dinosaur. But we're going to make a straight line. And then we're going to come up. We're going to come over, we're going to come down. We're going to go over and then we're going to go back up. So those are going to be the two front feet and legs of our dinosaur. Now we're going to have a long stretch right here and that's going to be his tummy. So we're going to make a straight line going across till about right there. And then we're going to do the same thing. We're going to come down, go over, up, over, down, over and backup. All right. Take your time with this part because we want it to look like actual feet and legs. All right, now what we're going to do is we're going to start here where we left off on this leg and we're going to attach this to the end of his tail. So with the lines. So we're going to go like this and attach it comes to a little bit of a point. Now you can probably see the shape of our dinosaur. Okay? At this point what we're going to do is we're going to add a little bit of detail to our dinosaur. And we're going to put an I. So you can put this type of an eye or a different type of an eye, it's up to you. And if you'd like to put a little smile, you can do that. And then I think to add a little bit more detail, even if it's not that realistic, I'm going to put some spikes on the back of his back. So I'm just going to make some small triangles that touches back in as the triangles get closer to the end of the tail, I'm going to make them smaller. So we're going to make them smaller and smaller and smaller. And by the time it gets to the tip of the tail, It's pretty tiny. Now I'm going to move here to the back of his neck, into his head and I'm going to make some more spikes. You do not need to do this part if you don't want to, but I just think that it creates a little bit more interest. If we add a little bit more detail. Okay, I'm not going to go up onto his head this time. And then if you'd like to decorate his body, maybe with some circles, some spots or some. I'm kinda using a little bit more of an oval. Maybe just three. If you'd like to add more, you can go ahead and do that. This is your artwork so you get to do what you want. So now I'm going to create some ground that you standing on. So I'm going to start about right here. Then I'm going to jump over my dinosaur and come out this side. Just like this. So it looks like he's standing on the ground. Now at this point I'm going to add something right here because I see a space that could use something. So I think I'm going to make a palm tree. So to make a palm tree, I'm going to make a curved line. And then I'm going to move over a little bit on my ground and I'm going to make another curved line and I'm going to connect it at the very tip. That's going to be the trunk of my palm tree. Now I'm going to make some palm fronds, poem leaves. And the way that I'm going to do that is make some curved lines coming out and then a straight line coming in to this point right here, the tip of the trunk. So curved line. I mean, come back, come back, come back, come back in then I might want to add a little bit of detail. Maybe some x's or zigzags. I think I'll do some zigzags this time. Going all the way down my trunk. Okay. Now, in the background I feel like I'd like to make a little bit of detail right here. So I think I'm going to make some hills or mountains. So some gentle hills or mountains. So I'm just making lines wherever I feel like I want to maybe I'll make one here coming down this way. Remember we're not going to go through our palm tree, we're just going to skip over it. So did you see how I did that? I didn't explain that. So I made a straight line coming up in the night, came down because this is the peak of my hill right here. Then I stopped and then I started again a little bit up from the line ending and I came up and I made a little hill. I jumped over my palm tree, and then I started another hill here. So it looks like we have three peaks. 123. Okay. Just adds a little bit more detail in it shows that there's a background in this drawing. So down here I think I'd like to add a little bit of details. So I think I'm just going to add some prehistoric plants and maybe even some rocks. Let me show you how to make a rock. You make a straight line and then kind of a curvy line like this. So that's a rock. That's how I make rocks at least. So I'm making some prehistoric plants. Maybe I'll put our little rock here. So you decide what you'd like to put down here at the bottom, if anything. It's completely up to you. So take a look at your artwork and if you'd like to add anything else at this point, go ahead and do that. And then when we come back in the next video, we will start painting our design.
3. Step 2: Paint the Dinosaur Design: In this step, we are going to apply some watercolor paint to our drawing. So before we do that, let's get our paints prepared for us to use. The way that we do that is we add a drop or two of water to each pan of paint. And what that will do is soften up the page. It will dissolve the paint just a little bit. So it's much easier for us to use. So it's a good idea to take the time to do that. Now that we have our paints softening up, Let's turn our attention to our drawing. Think about the colors that you'd like to use for your drawing for a moment. If you'd like to change your mind anytime you can go ahead and do that. I think I'm going to use blue for the sky, brown for the mountains, green for the palm fronds, brown for the trunk, and maybe green or brown for this bottom area right here. And for my dinosaur, I'm going to use a dark blue. I'm going to make a dark blue with a lot of blue and a little bit of black. And I'm going to show you how to do that right now. So to make a darker blue, what we need to do is we need to take some blue paint and put it into one of our wells with quite a bit of water. And then we're slowly going to add just a little bit of black paint. Me just a tiny, tiny bit. If you use too much black paint, it will overpower the blue paint and then it will just be black. So we need to make sure that we add just a little bit of it at a time and a test that out a little bit. That's actually a really good taller, I think I need to add a little bit more blue. And then maybe a little bit more bold. Just a tiny bit. See how that looks. Yeah, that's good. So I didn't want a really bright blue for my dinosaur. I wanted it to be a little bit darker, so that's why I wanted to add just a little bit of black. Remember when you're using black with another color, you have to be very, very careful. And start out by using chest, a touch of black. Okay, so what I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to paint my painting. And I'm going to speed up this video so you can watch it. It will be only about 30 seconds or so. And then you can get started on your own. So I'll see you back here in just a minute. So this session. All right, friends, I'm finished and I really like the way that my painting turned out. A couple of things. I'm going to take a little bit of paint off of these areas right here, the spikes and then the dots. And the reason why I'm going to do that is because I want these spaces to be a little bit lighter. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to hover my paper towel over that spot. And I'm going to touch lightly with my finger and bring up some of the paint, see how that works. So it just brings up the puddle. It takes up a little bit of the paint. So I'm going to do that just to really quickly because I want these spaces to be a little bit lighter. Okay, do that. And then there's one more thing that I'd like to show you. All right. So see how I picked up the paint with my paper towel. What I'd like to do now is I'd like to paint these rocks gray. So let me show you how to make gray with black paint. So we take a tiny bit of black paint and put it into one of our wells. These are called our wells over here with a lot of water in a little bit of paint that makes a gray color. So I'm going to paint those. I need them to be a little bit darker. Okay. Let me try that one out. That's much better. So to make gray, you add black paint with a little bit of water, and then that will make some gray. Now I'd like to bring up a little bit of the color here because it's starting to run around into my green. So I'm going to bring that up with my finger and that will stop the spreading of the paint and I'll take a little bit off of that one as well. So I hope that you enjoyed this project. I will see you next time.
