1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: I Hi, friends. How are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed, especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take. Today, we are going to be using the number 100 100 to create this silly shark. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paintbrush. You will also need a cup or a bowl with clean water, a black oil pastel or crayon and a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw a Shark Design: In this step, we are going to draw a shark using the number 100. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is pick up our black oil pastel or crayon, and we're going to write the number 100 pretty big right here in the center of our piece of paper. So let's go ahead and do that. So I'm going to make a straight line about right here, one. And then I'm going to write the number zero. And then another number zero right next to that first number zero. Those are going to be the eyes for a shark. Okay? Now, what we're going to do is connect this zero to this zero with a curve line. So I'm going to come up, come over, and then come down with a curve line. And then same thing down here at the bottom. So come down, come over and go back up. This might not look like a shark quite yet, but it will by the time that we're finished. All right? Let's make a top fin at the top of our shark. So we're going to make a triangle straight up and straight down. And then we're also going to make some side fins. So about right here, curve down and then curve back in. Curve down. Uh oh. Run out of space there, so I'm just going to pretend and then straight line back in. So if I did have the room, then I would make the curve line and the straight line to look like this one. All right. Small fin down here at the bottom. Now what we're going to do is we're going to create a tail over here and we're going to use this number one. So let me show you how we're going to do that. So we're going to go from the top of the sharks face and body to that line. And then over here, we're going to do the same thing. Then we're going to create the rest of the tail over here. So slanted line coming out, slanted line coming out, and then we're going to connect these two slanted lines. So come in and then come down. Alright, let's add some details to this shark. So I'm going to make a pupil that's going to be pretty round. They can be big or small pupils. It's up to you. I like to make my pupils roughly the same size. So sometimes it takes a little bit of time to get that right. Swing now needs to be a little bit bigger. Alright, now we're going to make a mouth, and I'm going to make a nice big mouth with some big teeth. So straight line coming down underneath the eyes, and then a curve line coming almost down to the bottom of the face shape. And then we're going to make some teeth. That's just going to be zigzag lines like this. Now I'm going to give my shark some nostrils. Now I'm going to give my shark some eyebrows, and this will show that my shark is tough, okay? So I'm going to make some eyebrows that are slanting down like this. Look at that guy. I think I'm going to double this one up because this one's a little bit thinner. Okay. There we go. He's tough. Okay. The next thing that I'm going to do is create a background. So I'm going to make maybe some rocks down here at the bottom and some sand. So the way that I like to make rocks are like this. So up with a pretty curved line and then close at the bottom with a straight line. And then I'm going to make another rock here. And then maybe I'll make some seaweed or some plants down here. Maybe I'll even make some over here. And then I'm going to make some sand. Going along the bottom, like this. Jump over that seaweed. And then I'm going to add some little marks like this, some dots. This represents sand 'cause this is sand at the bottom here. I think I'm not going to make the waves here at the top, but if you like to make some waves, just connecting curve lines, you can go ahead and do that. But I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to make some small fish like this. They're very simple. It's just a straight line for the tail, curve line, and then an eye. That's my favorite way to make a fish. Maybe one right here. There we go. I think I'd like to make one more right here. These fish are not afraid of this shark. I might even want to make one down here. It's a little baby fish. So what you can do now is you can take a look at your artwork to see if there's anything else that you'd like to add to your drawing. And then in the next step, we are going to start painting our design. So I will see you in the next video. 3. Step 2: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to paint our design. So let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is we're going to add one or two drops of water into each of our pans of paint. And what this will do is it will soften up our paint a little bit so that it is easier for us to use. So I really do encourage my students to take this step because I think it really does help. Now that our paints are softening up, let's turn our attention to our design. So in this step, what we're going to do is we're going to paint our background. We're not going to paint the shark. In this step, we will wait until the next step to paint the shark. So we're just focusing on the background. You can choose any colors that you'd like to paint your background. I'm going to share with you the colors that I'm going to use, but feel free to use the colors that you would like. Alright? I'm going to paint this part, the water, I'm going to paint that blue. I'm going to paint my fish either red or orange or maybe a combination of those two. I'm going to paint the sand brown and the rocks maybe a light gray color. And I'm going to paint the plants green. Alright? I'm going to start out with the sand. So let me show you how I'm going to make a light light brown for the sand. I'm going to add some water into one of my wells, and then I'm going to add a little bit of brown paint. Not too much because I want really light sand. If you'd like a light colour, you use a lot of water, and if you like a darker, stronger, more vibrant color, then you use more paint and less water. Okay? So let me paint this sand. Now I'm going to go ahead and paint the plants and the fish and the background. Alrighty friends, I'm finished painting the background. I am going to paint these rocks in the next step because the rocks are going to be a very similar color to the shark. So I will see you in the next video. 4. Step 3: Paint the Shark: In this step, we are going to paint our shark and our rocks. So let's get started. I'm going to start by making some gray paint. I'm going to put several drops of water into one of my wells, and then I'm going to add some black paint. If you would like a lighter color of gray, then you will add more water and less paint. If you'd like a darker shade of gray, then you will add more paint and less water. Keep in mind that black is a very powerful color, so you don't need really that much black. You need more water than black paint. Alright? Oh, this is perfect. Alright, so what I'm going to do is I'm going to try to stay inside those lines as much as I can, and I'm going to go ahead and paint my shark. All righty friends, I'm finished painting my shark, and I'm also finished painting these rocks. I think that my artwork turned out, great? I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project, and I will see you next time.
