1. Introduction to This Project and Supplies Needed: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'd like to introduce this project to you. This is our drawing and watercolor painting, standard castle on the beach project. And it was designed especially for kids. You do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will take you step-by-step through all the steps that you need to take. I'd like to go for the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a piece of watercolor paper. You will need some watercolor paints. You will need a paintbrush and a cup or a bowl of clean water. You will also need a black crayon or a black oil pastel and a paper towel. So go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials, and I'll see you back here in just a minute.
2. Step 1: Draw a Sand Castle: In this step we are going to draw a sand castle at the beach. So let's get started. The first thing that you'll want to do is pick up your oil pastel or your crayon. And we're going to go a few inches from the bottom. And that's where we're going to start our stand castle. So we're going to make a line right in the middle at the bottom of your piece of paper. Now your line isn't going to be really, really big, but it's not going to be tiny. It's going to be maybe about four or five inches long, or about six or seven centimeters along. All right, So just make a straight line. Now from that straight line, we're going to go up with two more straight lines. And then what we're going to do is we are going to make the top part of this castle. So we come over, down over. Did you see what I did? So I go over, down, over, up and over. Okay. It can be a little bit tricky, but just do the best that you can. All right, The next step is we are going to make some more parts of our castle here on this side. So let me show you what we're going to do. We are going to come up from these areas right here with some straight lines. They're not going to be too tall. They're just going to be about this tall. One on each side. Now we're going to make two more castle areas over here, so we come over, down, over, up over. All right. Did you see how I did that? I came up with a line. I went over a little bit, then down, then over that, up, then over. It can get kinda tricky, but just do the best that you can. Now I'm going to come straight down going slowly and carefully so I do my best work. And then I close up at the bottom. And then I'm going to do the same thing on the other side. So over, down, over, up, over and then all the way down. And then I close up at the bottom. All right, For our next step, we are going to make another part of the capsule right here in the middle. So what we're going to do on this one is we're going to come up from the center here, in the center here with straight lines like this. And then we're going to just do these short lines as well. So over, down, over, up, over, down, over, up. And close it up. Again, just do the best that you can. It's not the easiest thing in the world, but you can do hard things, okay? All right, so now what we're going to do is we're going to make the top part of our castle right here. Right? So we are going to come up with a straight line, come up with a straight line. And then we're going to come over and close. And then we're going to make a triangle on top here. So up and then down. Look at that, That's awesome. Now we're going to add that very, very tippy top. We're going to make a flag. I hope you can see this on my piece of paper. So make the flag pole. And then at the very top, you can make a triangle. Awesome. Now that we have our castle and our flag, we can add a little bit of detail. So down here at the bottom, I'm going to start with an arched doorway. So an arched doorway starts in the middle. And then it's just an upside down U. And then I'm going to add, I think the door knob right here. If you want to divide this in half, you can do that as well. And then I'm going to add some windows. And I think these windows are going to be the same shape as the door. So they're going to be semi-circles. So I make upside-down u's and then I close them at the bottom. Upside-down U. And close at the bottom. Upside-down you enclose at the bottom. I think I have space for two here. Upside-down U and close at the bottom. Upside-down you enclose at the bottom. And then if you want to add one more right here, you can go ahead and do that. I think I'm going to leave mine clear. And then at the very top tower right here, I'm going to make one more. Well, that looks really cool. I think I've changed my mind. I think I want one more art tray here, one more window. Awesome. Okay, Now that we have our castle, the next thing that we're going to do is we're going to make some sand that are Castle is sitting on. So a curved line here at the bottom. And then a curve line here. Remember we're not taking our curve line all the way through our castle because then it will divide our castle. And we want it to appear like our castle is sitting on the sand. If you'd like to make some things on the sand right here, like maybe you little seashells or a little sand stars or little, I don't know, like a starfish. You can go ahead and do that. So I think I'm going to put a tiny star fish here. And then maybe I will put a seashell over here. There's not that much space, so I will do the best I can. And then I'm going to put some little dots here. And this will represent sand. Just some small dots. It'll make it look like it has a little bit more texture, like it's really sand. All right, Now let's put a little bit of detail in the background. I'm thinking that maybe I wanted to put some waves here. So I'll just go on either side and I'll just put one little wave in the background. And then I have some room in my sky, can put some, some clouds or a son. I think I'm going to put a son here, but you can put whatever you want. So I'm going to have a circle here. And then maybe I'll make some triangles. This is how I like to make a son. But if you'd like to make your son a different way, go ahead and do that. This is your artwork and you should do what you want to do. All right, friends, I think I'm happy with mine if there's anything else that you'd like to add onto your artwork, go ahead and do that. And then when we come back in the next step, we will be adding some water color paper.
3. Step 2: Paint the Sand Castle: In this step, we are going to be painting our design with our watercolor paints. So as you know, this is a sand castle that is made out of sand. And sand is usually a pretty light brown or a tan color. So I want to show you how to make that color. What you'll need to do is you'll need to use a tiny bit of brown paint. And you'll need to add a lot of water to that brown paint and it will lighten it up to the point where it will look like a tan color, like the color of sand. So I think that might be light enough. Let me put that down. And I'm going to test it out down here at the bottom. Yep, that looks really, really good. I'm going to go ahead and paint my sand. And then I'm going to paint my sand castle. And if I run out of my brown, brownish Tanishq color paint, then I'm just going to create some more. Remember, if you want your colors to be really, really light, you add more water. If you want them to be dark, then you add more paint. So I'm going to go ahead and do that. And you can watch me. I will speed up this video. And then you can get started on your own art project. Now that I've finished painting my sand castle, I'm going to paint in the details and I'm going to make them brown, but I'm going to make them a little bit of a darker brown because there will be a little bit of a shadow on them. So I'm going to paint the roof brown, a little bit browner, darker brown, then this tan color and then the little windows spaces. So instead of adding a huge amount of water, I am going to add a little bit less water and a little bit more paint. And that will make my color a little bit darker. So that's not much darker than an actual sand castle. I'd like mine to be a little bit darker, so well, but more brown. So I'm going to go ahead and paint these a little bit darker. All right, friends. I'm back and I'm really happy with the way that my sand castle looks. There are a couple of spots that I think that I'd like to bring up a little bit of the paint. So I'm going to take my handy-dandy paper towel look. I already brought up some paint with my son. And I am going to just touch some certain areas. And what that will do is it will bring up the paint off of the piece of paper. So if you feel like you have some puddles that you want to bring up, soak up with your paper towel. Go ahead and do that. You only need to do just a light little touch. Okay? I hope that you had fun with this project and I will see you next time.
