1. Introduction and Supplies You Will Need: Hi friends, how are you? I hope you're having a great day today. I'm excited about sharing this project with you. This is a drawing and watercolor painting project that I designed especially for kids. Students do not need to have any drawing or painting experience at all to be successful with this project. I will guide students step by step through all the steps that they need to take. Today, we are going to be creating the St ⁇ Patrick's Day Bear. I hope that you have a lot of fun with this project. Let's get started. Let's talk about the supplies and the materials that you will need for this project. The first thing that you'll need is a sheet of watercolor paper. You will need a set of watercolor paints and a paint brush. You will also need a cup or a bowl with clean water and a black oil pastel, or a black crayon and a paper towel. Go ahead and gather all of those supplies and materials. And I'll see you back here in the next video. 2. Step 1: Draw a Shamrock Bear Design: In this step, we are going to draw our St ⁇ Patrick Stay Bear Design. Let's get started. Go ahead and find the middle of your sheet of paper. The middle of my sheet of paper is about right here. We're going to make a circle that goes through the middle of our sheet of paper. I'm going to start my circle about right here. Make sure it's nice and big. Go around, and then if your circle doesn't look exactly like mine, that's okay. Now let's create some ears on our bear. The bears have pretty small ears, just some curve lines coming out from the top sides of that circle. Now let's create some features on the inside of our bears face. We're going to start out with a shape that looks like this. It's a rectangle but the corners are rounded, all right inside of this space. Let's make a triangle for the nose and a little smile coming down from that nose. Let's make some, I'm going to make some eyes right here and they're just going to be curved lines like this. It, little bear is smiling then I always like to make some little cheeks. I'm going to make some little cheeks right here on each side of the nose area. On the top of our head of our bear. We're going to create a little head band. What we're going to do is we're going to start up here above the head of our bear. And we're going to make two Shamrocks, one here on the left side and one on the right. Let me show you how to make a sham rock. We actually start out with a heart, then to that heart we connect two more hearts. One heart here and then one heart here, one here, and then one here. I'm going to connect a heart here on the side, and then another heart here on this side. And then connect right here in the middle. Then I'm going to do the same thing on this side. Now I'm going to connect these sham rocks to the head of the bear with a straight line. This is going to create our head band. All right, now let's move down to the body of our little bear and we're going to create a little outfit. We're going to have a line coming down and then coming over and then coming back up. Then let's make some little arms and legs, those are just curved lines. Now that we have our little bear design, what we're going to do is we're going to create a background. Let's make some grass. Nice flowy grass. Doesn't have to be a straight line. Then if you'd like to create something down here at the bottom, maybe some little sham rocks or some lady bugs or little bits of grass or flowers. It's completely up to you. I think I'll make some flowers. I'm going to start with a circle and add some curve lines for some petals. I like this because it shows that St. ⁇ Patrick stays getting towards the spring. All right. If there's anything else that you'd like to add to your design in the background, you can go ahead and do that. I think I'm going to add a few small clouds. This is how I like to make clouds. Nice and fluffy. One over here. Keep it simple. Al right. I think I'm finished with my design. If there's anything else that you'd like to add to your design, go ahead and do that now. In the next step, we will start painting our little St ⁇ Patrick's Day Bear design. 3. Step 2: Paint the Design: In this step, we are going to paint our bare design. Let's get started. The first thing that we're going to do is add one or two drops of water into each of our pans of paint. What this will do is it will really help by softening up those paints that they are easier for us to e. I always encourage my students to take this step because it really does help. Now that our paints are softening up, let's turn our attention to our design. So what we're going to do is we're going to focus on painting the bear and the two shamrocks. At the top of the piece of paper, you get to choose the colors that you use for painting your bear, the outfit. And we're going to paint the Shamrocks green. Okay. So I'm going to paint my bear brown. So I'm going to prepare a little bit of paint because I'd like my bear to be a little bit of a lighter brown. So I'm going to use more water and less paint. Let's try that out. Oh, perfect. So I'm going to go ahead and paint the face and head of my bar Brown. I will also paint the ears brown, and the arms and the legs brown as well. And then for the outfit, I'm going to paint that a different color. Now I'm going to paint this area, the nose area of my bear. And I want that area to be really, really light brown. So I'm adding even more water to my brown paint. You might not even be able to see the difference between white and this brown soup. Super light, but that's how I want it now. I'm going to paint the cheeks light. Then I'm going to paint the sham rocks green. And then I'm going to paint that nose black. But it's actually going to be a dark gray. So a little bit of water and a little bit of black paint. Now I'm going to go ahead and paint the outfit. I'm going to use the rainbow colors as many as I can. I don't know if I can fit all of them onto here. You can paint your outfit any colors that you'd like. So let's do that now. As you can see, I painted my outfit, the rainbow colors. I managed to fit all of the colors onto the outfit and they're flowing together nicely. So I'm really happy about that. In the next step, we will come back and we will paint the background. 4. Step 3: Paint the Background: In this step, we are going to paint the background. Let's get started. What I'm going to do is I am going to paint my flowers down here at the bottom first. And then the grass. And then I'm going to move up to the sky. Remember, you can use the colors that you choose. I'm going to use the colors pink for my flowers, green for the grass, and blue for the sky. But you can use any colors that you like. I'm going to try to stay inside of those lines, but if I happen to go outside of the lines, okay, I'm not going to worry too much about it. All righty. Friends, I'm finished painting the background. I really like how my artwork turned out. I hope that you had a lot of fun with this project. I will see you next time.
