1. Introduction.: Hello and welcome to my course on the comparison of the three prominent online platforms, Airbnb, booking.com, and Expedia don't cope. In this course, we will analyze the unique features, offerings, and advantages of each platform in order to make informed decisions when you are going to plan your next trip. By understanding the similarities and differences between Airbnb, booking.com and expedia.com. You will gain valuable insights into which platform are lines based with your specific travel needs. My teaching experience in the academic level has shown me that the best way to pass information to my students in a limited amount of time and to ensure that they are going to remember those information is to present them through facts. So what we're going to do is float around 20 interesting facts about each company that is going to give you the tools for you to be able to make your own conclusions. So if you're planning your next vacation, or if you are interested in general in the tourism field, or even if you are studying a related subject, embark into this journey of exploration and discovery. And as always, thank you for watching 2. AirbBnb Part 1.: Hello and welcome to the first of the three companies that we are going to compare Airbnb. Now, we're going to see 22 interesting facts about this company that came out of nowhere and became a synonym of Traveling, staying, and even experiencing once-in-a-lifetime moment. So let's start with the first fact. Airbnb was founded in 2008 and is by far the newest of the three companies we are going to see. The other two, Booking and Expedia. So Airbnb is much, much younger than those two. It was founded by Brian joy Gibeon and Nathan blood. Just kick. Obviously, I'm terribly sorry if I'm pronouncing of those names wrong. You can see how they're written in the left of my head. So those three friends create this company as a way to offer affordable and unique accommodation for other travelers. And remember those two words, because those two words have synonyms of Airbnb, affordability, and uniqueness. The second fact is that initially this company used to call Air Bed and Breakfast, and it was actually literally what it means. So in the very beginning, those three friends, they had some spare room in their house renting, and they decide to get some air matrices, flows them and end the extra space they had to travelers in order to win some extra money. Next fact is that it started for air mattresses. And nowadays, airbnb has a huge variety of types of accommodation. It starts from homes, apartments, villas, Private Islands, treehouses, even caves, a riverboats. I'm castles. Literally, they're not any limits. I have seen in documentaries, all aeroplanes or army sectors that they have transform into airbnb is the only limitation is the loss of its country and the safety restrictions that Airbnb is requiring. Next fact is that Airbnb is operating more than 220 countries around the world, making it through global enterprise. For me, probably the most interesting fact, the one that follows and the next next one they wanted follows is that Airbnb has more than 4 million hosts. Because the size of a big city or even a small country, the people that actually receiving an extra income, or even the people who literally only leave from Airbnb in the number of millions. The next fact that I actually cannot even comprehend is that in the year 2021. So we are talking about the years that we still had COVID restrictions. Airbnb from the beginning of this history enriched the number 800 million people who have stayed at least one night in an Airbnb property. If you think about soon, we're going to lead to 1 billion people that they have used Airbnb. And we're not talking that Airbnb can sell all the competition. People still are choosing hotels as we are going to see women compared to the other two companies. So airbnb came out of nowhere. It became synonymous Tourist and literally revolutionized the way we are traveling. And actually the way we're staying in our holidays, the most booked Airbnb property, at least until the year 2021. I don't have the newer data as we're recording now is the year 2023. In the end of the year 23, I'm going to receive the data of the year 2022. If I have any updates, I'm going to push them out resources to a course. So until the year 2021, the most book property was the Underground hike that is located in Orlando, Washington is more cozy house that is inside the ground. The next fact is that Airbnb host Experiences me myself. I used to be Airbnb experience provider, especially when I was living in Madrid. The whole idea behind that is Airbnb wanted to connect their clients with local peoples in order to for them unique experiences. In the beginning, it was working like that. Later, mother big companies came and they start providing experiences. So now many clients are complaining that is not as authentic as I used to be in the very beginning. Those experiences can be a hot balloon trip to a classic tool. But the vast majority of these activities are taking place inside cities and close where many Airbnb properties located. The next fact is that for more loose experiences, the most popular of all related with food, like cooking classes or food tools. So what that show us is that it doesn't matter how you're going to put your own culmination. It doesn't matter where you are going to stay. As it this proof, the best immersive way to learn a new culture is through food. Our next fact is that Airbnb has a robust reviewing system that is very complicated. It has many questions, many categories, in order to ensure that the people who are hosting other people in the house is following the strict legislation related to that. Next fact is that Airbnb actually has super host. So they were two people who have an exceptional highest score. And they offer unique services. 3. AirBnb Part 2.: Furthermore, in our next fact that I'm going to see that Airbnb has now the option of a long state. That means bookings and that the last more than a month. And usually those are related with business travel, but especially after the COVID where people needed to work from home or they needed to work. Internationally, the places became very, very popular. Now we start losing a little bit of popularity, but it's still very relevant. The next fact is that Airbnb actually literally tries to promote inclusivity and diversity through some of their programs, like open doors that provides temporary housing for displaced individuals during the time of crisis. The next fact has to do that. The last few years, airbnb is not just opening a commendation anymore or experiences, but now Airbnb has two more categories, like Airbnb plus and AirBnb luxury. Both of those categories are about high-end bookings. Those are exclusive by offered by super host. There are obviously much more expensive. And sometimes they offer some access services. It can be from a private aeroplane and private safe two, whatever you can even imagine. The next fact has to do about, which is the biggest market of Airbnb and by far the biggest market in offering and in demand is United States of America, followed by France, Italy, Spain, and United Kingdom. The next fact has to do about the tendencies that Airbnb faced. Airbnb actually in many, many places faced many, many issues. And it's still giving battles almost in every city that is operating and has some issues with Tourist. Some places open their hugs and when they were introducing Airbnb, some other places like barcelona became infamous that the locals, now they're not respect so much the choice of the neighbors to transform whole buildings into Airbnb accommodations because they believe that they are destroying their neighborhood. This kind of criticism exists. Now in every major tourist destination. This attendance that obviously airbnb is and company can not show. This is about the local authorities and the people who live in these places. But obviously this doesn't mean that Airbnb has in face any difficulties. Furthermore, airbnb has faced problems with the individual taxation in some countries and some other allegations like they're not in shooting hide standards in all the places. There are some cases where some owners have put cameras in South their apartments. In some other cases, the description is not very strict, and in some cases they're double book. But as I said, now, we saw above that 4 million people are host of an Airbnb. So imagine in such a shoots pool, of course, obviously they're going to be some issues. The next fact has to do about the COVID crisis, the COVID pandemic. Obviously it had a huge impact in Airbnb, but also be showing transformation. Because many people, as I said, the above shows Airbnb in order to secure that they can work from, let's say, another environment that is not their home because they didn't want to confuse those two things. And also, due to the restrictions, many people choose to stay close to where they live and they choose and airbnb. Now, the next fact also has to do about the COVID pandemic, that some people can see it as an opportunity because the COVID pandemic interlude use new laws and new health guidelines and restrictions that all the host has to follow. So now there's some people say that it was actually a good thing for the clients of their airbnb is the next fact is not totally related to the COVID, but we are going to see why I consider interrelated. Airbnb went public in December of 202023 months before the COVID strikes. And it was one of the biggest and most anticipated there is into the stock exchange for any Tourist Company. The next fact has to do about the word I use, both about the word staycation. What time means with the word staycation is that many people now are exogenous Airbnb in order to explore the places where they're living. For example, if you leave in a subinterval underneath, you leave a little bit outside of London, let's say 1 h. You want to actually experience how is to live in the center of the city. People now are choosing airbnb is. Furthermore, they have find that many people that they want to change the house in order to take the new neighborhood they're going to go, they choose an Airbnb so they can actually experience the new neighborhood. And if they like it, then they decided to move. So obviously, this is not exactly a new to this category, but it's an interesting fact about Airbnb. The next fact has the longest Airbnb stain that is more than 1,080 days, some more or less three years it took place in Stockholm, Sweden. Are less fact about the airbnb is that Airbnb has a dedicated team that they call trust and safety to ensure the safety and security of the platform and the clients 4. Airbnb My thoughts.: Those were the 22 indistinct facts we had about Airbnb. Seriously and honestly, I wanted to share your opinion about which one you thought was the most interesting. I'm using Airbnb from 2012. I think I'm using it every year. I used to perform many experiences. So I have actually N money from actual Airbnb. I have made countless of people who are using Airbnb, the blind to test it as me. By far, my favorite fact about airbnb is that good. Book a hotel. Sometimes you don't want to book a hotel. So when I was looking to move eye book Airbnb in places that I wanted to move. So the new place I'm living now, in order to discover if I actually want to live here. I stayed in Airbnb, is there to discover how it's actually to live. Because when you stay in a hotel, sometimes you are in a bubble. But with Airbnb to actually, sometimes, not always, but sometimes you can meet actual people who live in this area. They can give you actual advices and not something that you read online. So to conclude, Airbnb tend to be synonym of authenticity. Airbnb tend to make you came out from your comfort zone, I will say because you literally have to communicate when you book something, you have to communicate with the person who added what time you arriving. Where can you find the key? So it's a good thing sometimes I really enjoyed using Airbnb. As I said, let me know which one is your favorite fact about Airbnb. And we will continue now with appended to most interesting facts we have about booking.com. And as always, thank you for watching 5. Booking Part 1.: Hello and welcome back. After we examining the 22 interesting facts about Airbnb, now, it's time to do exactly the same for booking.com. So let's check those 20 to facts and make our own conclusions. We will start with our first fact. The fact that booking.com is 12 years older than AirBnb. That means that it was created in 1996 and started as a small startup calling booking.net. And then from Netherlands. Our second fact is that Booking nowadays is available in 230 countries in comparison with a 220 countries of Airbnb. So here we can see we have ten countries more. As we said, is extremely available, but also offers a vast selection of accommodations, rather travel services. So it's not just a commendation like Airbnb, but also other services like renting a car, booking a tour like AirBnb that there have been because there have been the experiences. But we're going to say many, many similarities and many, many differences. So let's continue to our next fact. The platform of booking.com. The features more than 28 million listings including hotels, host status, apartments, results, and unique properties like lighthouses, house, birds, and the loose. Our next fact has to do that. Booking.com is available in 40 languages, making it accessible to a diverse global audience. For me, one of the most important differences is the one we're going to see now. Booking.com is part of the Booking Holdings, which also owns or other popular travel brands like Priceline's, Agoda, cardiac, an OpenTable. So what booking software is much more broad, but also the data that Booking is using to make everything more sophisticated is bigger. Booking can use data for many, many different websites because it's under the umbrella of the Booking Holdings. So they can offer in cases better prices. They know which areas are becoming more trending. And many more interesting facts about all this data they're collecting for the customers are next fact is that booking.com offers a variety of different recommendations regarding to the budget. We have the button friendly, hostile that can start the price of €7 per night in some big city to the most luxury suite you can even imagine. Our next fact is about the filters that Booking are using. And there are much, much superior that almost any other website in this category of the Booking category. So those filters actually leave the client the options to choose accommodation according to the absolute units. Those needs can be the location, can be the price, it can be the amenities, and even the guest ratings. I'm going to focus a little bit in the amenities. The reflectors go to extend where you can choose. If you're Hotel is going to have its accuracy. If I replace dry-year of view and see if you Lakeview, Mountain View. And I'm saying call this from personal experience because we didn't their book a trip through Booking. And the things I could choose, the reference, you can choose if with this pet-friendly, if it is a kits ventrally Hotel, you can choose literally everything. Many things that I didn't even know that I want from a room. It was a great experience to actually set up and say all the possible amenities that they're available in the distinctive booking. Our next fact, and again, for me, one very, very important one is the genius loyalty program that Booking has that remains more than the cards you have from the supermarket and provides exclusive discounts and offers to frequent bookers who meet certain criteria. In a data, the standard a little bit, the size of booking.com. We have our next fact that booking.com is actually projecting that over 1.5 million roommates book daily through their website, showcasing its popularity and trust placed in the platform by the travelers. Our next fact is that Airbnb, I didn't mention it in the facts because for millibars like to abuse, airbnb is offering a free mobile application that engage users to book recommendation on the goal, making, travel and planning and actually booking more convenient. Next fact, similarly to Airbnb, booking.com has an extensive review system with hundreds of millions of guest reviews and ratings that help travelers to make informed decisions about their bookings 6. Booking part 2.: So now we're going to continue with our next fact. Booking.com offers a price match guarantees. That is also very important for many people. But that actually means, it means that for selected accommodations and booking.com ensures their customers are getting the best available price for their bookings. Our next fact, we talked a bit earlier, is that booking.com now is expanding above bookings. So not only about the bookings of accommodation, but the offer services like flight bookings, car rentals, airport taxes, experiences, providing comprehensive look inexperience. Our next fact is that Booking actually offers a 24-seven customer support. That is also very important for me. This about this in multiple languages. That actually means that you have 24-seven a system for your Booking. If something went wrong, if you have any difficulties, any emergencies, anything, they're there to help you. I have actually used them to book things, but I couldn't find actually my Booking and they have mellowed. So if you have any question about your bookings, if you wanted to do some modifications or if you need an instant head, they have a great customer support. Our next fact is that the company lately has actively participate in initiatives about sustainable tourism. So they partner with some organizations to promote some eco-friendly accommodations through a program they have that is called green space. Our next fact is that booking.com has introduced features like Booking assistant and Booking messages in order to facilitate direct communication between the client, the customer, and the owner of the place there Booking. This happened in order to and says they booking experience. But also if I say respond to Airbnb, because in Airbnb, you never talked with actually company of Airbnb you took with the actual owner. So they supposed to be more personal. So with this initiatives, Booking is bringing into the game these personal engagement with the owner of the pleasure Booking. Obviously, if you book a small house and boutique hotel, you're going to talk to the owner. If you book. As I can take Hotel with hundreds of room, you are going to talk probably to automated machine, chat bot or a person that I guess it's not going to be their own then you never know. But I don't think someone when he books in Hilton, Holiday Inn is going to talk to the CEO will hit on our Haldane. But anyhow, you know what I mean by having this kind of messages supposed to be more personal? Next fact is, by far, the reason why I'm choosing booking.com more and more lately. And for me is extremely clever and extremely helpful for the clients. And it looks like a nightmare for the property owners. And that is the book now, pay me later program that booking.com has, that this is an option for some accommodations that the client has the ability to book it and pay later or pay when they arrive there. That is great for you because maybe that very moment we are talking now, you don't have the ability to book something and you find the great opportunity. And maybe you are going to have this money in a couple of months. So you book it now and you pay later. You don't have this option without platforms. For example, in the Airbnb, you cannot do that. So I adore it, I guess. Is it a bit stressful for the owners because someone may hold the booking for months and in the end can set it for free. And maybe you don't have enough time to recover this Booking. But again, now, I'm talking from the perspective of a client. In another video, I'm going to talk from the perspective of anomie. Next fact is about booking.com, is about the business program. They have. This Business Travel Program that is called is a tailor-made program for corporate travelers offering exclusive benefits to meet their specific needs. As we said before, this can include big gap from the airport. This can be rented car to take you to a conference or to take you to an exhibition and other initiatives like that. Next time is that the company has Metroid of criticism and legal challenges related to mainly issue. So deceptive pricing practices and unfair competition. Our next fact, and also one of my favorites is that every year they booking.com have the best of Booking awards. That is likely the Oscar of the Traveling world. We live. The words, they recognize exceptional recommendations around the world based on guests, ratings and reviews. And I think it's a great idea. Next fact has to do about the markets. By far, the biggest market of the booking.com is Europe. We saw that Airbnb is an American based company created in the States. And the biggest amount kidneys the states. Booking.com is a European company and their biggest market is Europe, following by Asia Pacific area and then United States. But as we mentioned above, they have an extensive global presence. Or last fact is that booking.com in the recent years is trying to promote our tentative recommendations, mainly promoting vacation rentals and non-traditional properties catered, changing travel patterns 7. Booking My thoughts.: We just saw the 22 most interesting facts about booking.com. Please let me know which one is yours. I definitely enjoying using booking.com. They have by far my favorite picture that this book now pay later that I think it has revolutionized the way I am personally booking. My recommendation is I can actually book now and saving the money. I'm putting a goal. And that makes me enjoy it more. Because I say, okay, now I'm going to stay somewhere or wherever, sending money, six months or three months. For me. It feels very rewarding. So I really enjoying, as I said above, I am using airbnb a year. And similarly, especially lately I'm using more and more Booking to compare in general, in total, all the years I'm using have bookmark things with booking. That doesn't mean I don't like Airbnb, but sometimes it's more convenient to use booking.com. And I am enjoying the authors of the Genius program because now I belong to genius to, if I remember when booking.com, I haven't work with Booking. So I haven't edited money from booking.com like heaven and money from Airbnb. But I totally trust both to the company's. Please let me know in the comments, which is your favorite feature of booking.com, and if you liked it. And as always, thank you for watching 8. Expedia part 1.: Hello and welcome back. Now let's see the 22 most interesting facts about expedia.com. Some of them are going to be very similar with a facts we had about Booking. Not so many, they're going to be similar with Airbnb. So let's start. Our first fact is that expedia.com actually created in 1996 by Microsoft. Yes. That Microsoft, one of the biggest companies in the world. They want it to create a website that was going to revolutionize the way that people are booking the holidays. To be honest that save that, but expedia bone of Microsoft. So it became a totally independent company. Nowadays is not as big obviously as Microsoft, but it's one of the biggest companies in the travel industry. Our second fact is, for me, what differentiate expedia from the previous two companies? Expedia is focusing more in packages and they offer packets deals where their clients can book also for obviously potential saving. Probably the next fact is my favorite about expedia is one of the reasons why I'm choosing expedia is called the last minute deals. That they are deals for spontaneous travelers looking obviously for discount prices on accommodation flights, and even organize packages. Similarly to booking.com, expedia.com, have book now pay later. We read, explain why that is great for clients. But in my opinion, not such a great thing for business owners. I am a big fan of it, I choose it. I am almost booking all my recommendation through that way. When I choose Booking or expedia. As I said, for me, is very rewarding to book months before and not to have to pay that moment, but to collect the money each month, put some money aside and when I reach my goal, finalize my payment. But I also explained why I think is not the sets a good idea or such a good concept for the business owners as they have of the market room or the property for months and maybe the client cancer the last second. They don't have to pay anything. The the client and the business doesn't have enough time to recover this Booking. So as I said, great for clients. I don't think it's such a great deal for business owners. Next fact is that expedia.com offers a wide range of travel guides and resources to help users plan their trips, featuring recommendations, destination information, and travel tips. Similarly to booking.com, expedia, also a special category about corporate travels. Our next fact is something that again differentiate expedia from the other companies. And is the fact that expedia has partnered with various airlines, hotel chains, and other kinds of businesses in order to offer exclusive prices to their customers. We saw that Airbnb is and American companies. So obviously and status, the biggest market, booking.com created the Netherlands. So Europe is the biggest market. Expedia, as we said, is it is of research of microsoft.com. So it is an American company, but that doesn't mean that they don't have a very strong presence in the Pacific area and Asia. And they have a dedicated company called expedia Asia focused in that region. Similarly to the previous two companies, expedia is also facing a lot of criticism. And many ligands sentences related to issues like misleading prices and lack of transparency in face. Our next fact is the one I think that the other two companies, I'm going to copy from expedia. So airbnb and Booking in the future are going to copy this feature from expedia. And it is the virtual agent where expedia is using artificial intelligence to provide automated customer inquiries. We will continue with another fact that I think that differentiate Expedia from the other two companies. So Booking and airbnb is going to copy from expedia. And is the fact that expedia is offering insurance, travel insurance in order to secure that their customers are going to be covered in a cation. If I mentioned sea 9. Expedia Part 2.: Our next fact is also very similar to the previous two companies, is the fact that expedia is one of the biggest companies in the travel industry offering very similar services as the other two companies. But as we mentioned, what makes it a little bit more different is that they offer flights, like it is activities. I actually have work with the expedia. I used to offer some tools, service doing through some of the companies that belong to Expedia. That takes me to the next fact. The next fact very similarly to booking, that Booking belongs to the Booking Holding Company, expedia.com, homes, many other well-known companies such as hotels.com, variable, Travelocity, Orbitz, and Hotwire, providing obviously a diverse portfolio of choices for the clients amass we mentioned about Booking. And the other companies that belong to the same group. They have a lot of data. Now, our next fact is about the size of the company. We already mentioned that this is one of the biggest. They operate in 75 countries, saving millions of people aniline dyes, you can see here is much smaller than the previous two companies, but it doesn't mean that it's a smaller company. So my next fact is that the company, expedia.com offers more than half 1 million of choices. As for accommodation, including obviously hotels, resorts, vacation rentals and apartments. Here we see more traditional choices. Next fact is about previous fact that you can book your flight through expedia. And actually expedia comparison many different airline companies in order to provide you with the best price. And that takes me to the next fact, like Booking Expedia offers you the best price guarantee. So that means that that very moment that you're using this website, they guarantee you that you're going to find the best price possible at that moment. And that ties with a previous fact I told you about the other companies and they own and they a lot of data that they can use. So they have a lot of data and they can provide you with better prices. For next fact is expedia.com very similarly to booking.com offer you expedia rewards that is very similar to the Genius program of Booking, where the participants are collecting points that they can use in the future to achieve discounts. Next fact is that expedia.com very similarly to Booking and not so similarly to Airbnb. I have a huge variety of filters. So you can choose literally whatever you need, an accommodation, all of your requirements are next path has to do about the fact that expedia is suffering cruises. That is the only so far, the second we are talking of the three companies that they offering that. As you can see, I used this word before. Expedia's and more traditional company. No traditional company asked for the management. But as for their approach to the travel, That's that they offer they offer organized packages. They offer cruises, they offer insurance says I'm not going to say because I don't have statistics or data that it is for older people than the previous two. But obviously, Airbnb tend to be associated with younger people. Booking actually have achieved a miracle and is associated with all ages. Expedia tend to be associated more with families and older people. And our next fact is very similarly to the previous two companies. They also have an application and the also offer instant bookings on LIGO. And last but not least, expedia.com also have a dedicated team to offer 2047 support with bookings, modification, and inquiries. I haven't used as a part. But I guess it has to be in the same levels but Booking and those where that when they do more interesting facts about expedia.com 10. Expedia My Thoughts.: As for expedia, for me, expedia and booking.com are very, very similar. Companies. Will literally there offering almost the same things. They have, the same initiative, like the best price guarantee. So they are very, very similar. Just Booking is a little bit more available. It has more options. And expedia is offering more organized packages. Or expedia is working or collaborating with more partners. So it's totally up to you. Obviously, if from those three, the two most different Airbnb and Expedia, airbnb doesn't offer any of the things that expedia is. So feeling like there's enough air, flight doesn't offer organized packet. This is supposed to be the contrary. To promote something more original. Booking is in the middle of those two companies, like a combination of Airbnb and Expedia. And Expedia, the company we are talking now, has passed to the mind of the majority. That is a very reliable company that has as their main target elderly people. I don't know what that does this mean? For me? This again and data this company works, offer very good prices and everything is very organized. We are going to receive very good service. So if someone telling to me that this company has as the main target, older people is not something offensive. So to conclude, expedia doesn't have any main difference from Booking, has some difference from Airbnb, mainly in the style of accommodation there offering and in the fact that they're often in. Moreover, nice packages. More things like insurances and collaboration with other main companies, like airlines or hotels. It is a great choice if you choose the area of the Pacific, Asia, and United States, usually in Europe, I see more the subsidiary company hotels.com. But as I said, I have worked for Expedia. I was offering my tools. I was providing through their website and it was a very good company to work with. And that's always thank you for watching 11.
