1. Introduction: Hey, everyone, and welcome to another adobe course by the creative technologist. Yours truly, Jeremiah Bowman. Today we're going to dive into an amazing portfolio tool that you might not have heard of or even used yet. But you might have access to it. That's right. Adobe Portfolio Adobe Portfolio is a part of any creative club plan, So if you're already using Adobe software, there's a chance you have access to this. If not, don't worry. You can go to Adobe's Creative Cloud Website and sign up for a free trial. What we're going to explore in this course is everything you need to do to get your portfolio up and available for the world to see. We're going to cover the basics of setting up the site, importing your content, pulling over photos from light room. Maybe you have saved files on Creative Cloud and getting those customized and even some advanced settings to really brand this for yourself. That's right. This course is all about showcasing your work with the world, and it's my job to make it as easy as possible for you to do so. So grab your computer, grab your files, get adobe portfolio booted up and let's get started 2. Your Assignment: your assignments. Pretty simple. I want you to complete a portfolio and share with the class. Not only will it prove that you've learned and utilize the dhobi portfolio platform, but it gives you a chance to share your content with other skills. Share users. I want to see your content, and I love to critique and give me some feedback. Plus, why not get those clients driven to you? That might be other skill share users. It's definitely a great place for you to post your link. Let us all take a look and talk about how would he utilized Adobe Portfolio? It makes it easy to share your work with people around the world, so why not get that feedback? I also will personally be sharing out different portfolios through my social media channels . If you do something that I really love or something I haven't seen before, I'm going to do the work for you. I'm gonna share out your link to my followers and get even more people driven to your site . So what are you waiting for? Let's get started 3. The Instructor: so you might be wondering who I am. I've had some students asked me those questions, and I wanted to give you a brief introduction. I'm just somebody that loves to teach and loves to be in the creative space. As a previous designer in graphics and Web and print and digital Ah, photographer, a videographer and a college instructor. I love to teach this type of material, hopefully explain it in a nice and simplistic way for you to follow along and enjoyed as well as an adobe campus leader in Adobe Education trainer and Adobe certified expert. I've gone through to make sure that I understand this software as best I can, and it makes sure that you also will understand the software. Justus. Well, if you have any questions, always feel free to send me a message, and I'll work with you one on one to get over whatever problems you run into. All right, time to start the course 4. What is Adobe Portfolio?: So you might be wondering, what exactly is Adobe Portfolio? Adobe Part Folio is one of these amazing tools that Adobe added into their creative cloud package. So no matter what type of package you have from creative Cloud meaning any type of subscription, you have access to Adobe Portfolio. Ah, lot of the creative community always struggled to figure out exactly how to build a portfolio to showcase their work. Now, adobes partner website be hands, gives you a public place to kind of post your work and comment and and really get creative together. But Adobe Portfolio really is the key piece of software everyone was missing. So instead of needing to actually go through and set up a website, set up a server, um, you know, we build out a wordpress portfolio installed plug ins. It was a long, tedious process. And for some creatives, that technical side just not their skill set. So what did they do? Adobe released portfolio. As you can see here, it is a great way to showcase your work. Just looking down here at some of the examples across the bottom, you can see lots of different ways you can actually work with Adobe Portfolio To put this together, they give you themes which will touch on a little bit later as a starting point. So you're not even starting with a blank canvas. You're getting to start somewhere, toe build upon and then customize, however you'd like to go when it comes to photographers. You know this is the prime person that Adobe created this for. There are some amazing tie ins, toe light room, which will talk about and how you can really showcase your work. But it also allows you to tie in to be hands and show that creative work that you might have used or created and focused that on the website as well. There's some great inspirational websites. Portfolio sends out emails regularly, kind of showcasing different work that's been done on, and it's really an amazing place to be able to go and just kind of brainstorm and see what's out there. Obviously, the point isn't a copy other people, but it's to see how they're using this tool to showcase the type of work that they're doing . So whether it's animation, maybe it's illustration. As you can see, there's a lot of composites and design in here. It's not just for photographers. It's really for anybody wanting to showcase their creative work. Now, as I mentioned before, you need to have some sort of creative cloud subscription to be able to utilize Adobe Portfolio. Now there's the Creative Club photography plan all lapse plan. There's a bunch of different other ones that you can look into as well by clicking. View all plans on this website. But ultimately, whatever plan you have that will include access to adore be portfolio. Don't worry. If you don't have any sort of plan, you can still create a user account in Creative Cloud and you could start working on a demo or kind of AH, practice version of your portfolio. It will just prompt you at the end to actually go into a paid subscription. So feel free to try download the trial. Um, you know, basically the trial account and follow along 5. Getting Your Own Portfolio: now, the first step is to go to my portfolio dot com Now realize whenever you're taking this class, the home page is probably changed. It rotates frequently, so it might not look exactly like this, but realize you're in the right place. If you see Adobe Portfolio in the PF logo in the upper left hand corner now to get started , all you have to do is follow. The simple prompts now realize that you do need to have that creative cloud log in before you start this process. If you don't, you are able to create it along the way. But just realize that that is an extra step you're going to have to take while following along with this course. So the process to get set up is very simple. Starting from this front page, you can see where it says get started free. If you click that, it's gonna bring you to a basic intro page and have you kind of start working our way through the process. Now they want you to choose a theme. This is just kind of giving you that starting place. You can change your theme throughout and even customize it from that point on. But it is a good time just to start thinking about what, You're going to set up your portfolio. Um, what is it gonna look like? What are you trying to do? What are you trying to showcase again? It's very easy to change these throughout the process. So if you're really undecided, just pick one and we'll go from there. I'm gonna click on Lucas here. Try this theme. Now it's going to take you to a screen toe log in with your adobe creative cloud credentials. Now again, remember, you need to have something. Ah, at least created to start this process. If you don't have one, feel free toe, get in adobe. I d and go through that process instead. But again, for the time being, we're gonna assume you've already created this. As I mentioned at the beginning of the course, you're gonna need this information. You're going to go in, You're going to put in that information and you're going to sign in now. Realize once it logs in here that I already have a portfolio put together. And so what you're seeing is my current portfolio adjusted with this different template. I'm gonna actually go through and erase all this content. I'm not going to save it. But I'm gonna walk you through the process of building this all from scratch. So this is my photography portfolio with a different template, Not the one that I use. So looks a little funny, but as you can see, it says you're all set. Don't forget to tell your friends just going to click. Not now, to make that go away and we can jump in and get started. That's how easy it is. You'll be able to start the process very quickly and get your site going up in no time. So now let's actually take a look at the interface. So you understand how to make these changes as we move through the course. 6. Adobe Portfolio - The Interface: now the interface for my portfolio eyes really an easy system that follow once you kind of understand the basics of how the icons pop up. As you can see, I've clear out my portfolio completely. Eso I'm on the home page with nothing, no content, no real anything and then a definitive gallery because you have to have one gallery on there. So my portfolio galleries there. But there's also no content in it. Now. As you can see, as I'm moving my mouse, you see these little dotted lines that show up. And then there's a blue pencil icon. What this means is these edit herbal regions I'm able to customize. So as you can see, if I get really close to these menu options, there's my menu that outlined there, and I can click on this, and it will allow me to actually customize or manage the content within my navigation. If I select a different area, that's the page header, and I can edit the page info or customize. And so as you can see, this is kind of the theme throughout. I can come down here, look at the footer, it will allow me to customize my footer. I can put social profile social icons. We'll get into those a little bit later. But just understand if you get lost, as long as you move your mouse around, you can probably find what you need to edit. Now, this can be a little bit frustrating just because you might miss Click, but realize that no matter what you do inside of Adobe Portfolio, unless you update live site, it is not saved and published live. So let me repeat that whatever you do in here, as long as you don't click Update live site. It isn't published and made permanent. What I've done right now is I've basically destroyed my portfolio site to be able to show you the steps of building out the content as long as I don't click that button, my portfolio is still live functioning exactly how I want it out on the Internet for people to see. So just take a breath and relax. Let some of that technology anxiety float away, because really, there's no way to screw this up. If you get into deep your customizing, you get frustrated. Close the window, refresh the page, do whatever you need to do. And all those changes in those things that you've done are gone. And it's like starting over. Also, utilize that. If you get to a point where you're comfortable, update the live site and save it, then keep working. The last thing that you want to do is actually go through making all these changes get to the very end, make a mistake and then decide up. Scrap it. I'm going to start over. So again, kind of use that save mentality as you work your way through the portfolio This window where that update live site. This is a movable window. So depending on how you like to organize your size of your screen, whatever you're doing, you can put this wherever you'd like. On here, you can view the live site global page styles undo your last edit. So there is an actual undo feature. So if you do make one mistake, you can just undo that last thing and then the breakdown of content adding specific content to this page. You can see these menu options. Here are the exact same menu. Options in icon were to start building your page. You then have the option to look at the page. So this home page itself has a masthead, a background container and more their settings for all of the pages which are defined in here and then site wide. Which means this is everything on your websites, your navigation, your footer. Those are the same for every page, every gallery within your adobe portfolio. So pretty simplistic system here. Very easy to use system with ah highlighting in the dash lines. Now, on the left hand side, you get some duplicates, your ableto add content and it will give you different suggestions of the content you might want to add. So ah, Page, a light room album which will actually pull from adobe, late room, a gallery or a link. You have the ability to manage your content. So when you open this, this is all the content that I already have created that I basically turned off. So by the using these switches, I can actually make things show up and disappear. So by turning on the blawg link in the contact form, if I minimize this, you can see the contact showed up here on top. So that came back so you manage your content in this way and how it's going to show up in your menu system and generally just how it always gonna show up anyway. Integrations is how you can connect your adobe light room and you're be hands gallery into your portfolio. So, as I mentioned before, you have the ability to connect these other services from Adobe and have your content available to put in your portfolio. So whether you're a photographer using light room or you're a designer showcasing your work and be hands, you don't have to download it. Re uploaded copy paste all that. Nope. You can use adobe system toe. Build this all out for you. We'll touch on some of the details of that a little bit down the line, editing your settings. These air the advanced settings for actually building this as a website. So think of building your actual website content. Ah, domain name, search optimization, Fabrikant. All these things that you would deal with building out a full website. We've got a specific chapter coming up with advanced settings later to go over these switching themes. As I mentioned before, you can switch these out any time you feel like it so you could jump in, you could grab a different theme. As you can see, you can continue editing, restore the defaults theme and view live examples. So if you kind of like what the layout is of Thomas here you can click view a live example , and it's actually gonna pull up. One you can see you can click in. You can interact with because this is Thomas. Is actual portfolio built into the system that you can interact with, so feel free to explore that at any time. I don't like it. Don't want to make a change. You can either continue editing you know your own just by hitting. Return to home in the upper left hand corner. This will bring back to that edit screen updates Air published down on the little toolbar updates down here. So any updates that comes specifically from Adobe introducing page specific passwords that was this last February. Um, they're gonna post here and keep you up to date when they're making these changes down at the bottom. Your account. It's all your creative cloud subscription account information, so realize that that's there. If you need to make any changes to that otherwise pretty simplistic interface. I hope that you're comfortable in here. Take some time to really explore here. See all the little tabs, all the detailed information, and then when you're comfortable, let's move on to the next chapter and actually start working with the template and building out your portfolio. 7. Building Out Your Portfolio: Okay, now let's actually start putting your website content together. This is a big step right where you have a lot of things maybe you want to display and you have a little bit of homework to do before you can move forward with this. So if you haven't figured out what you want to display yet and you haven't pulled those files aside, maybe pause the class. Go spend some time. Look through, figure out your files. What types of files If it's video, if it's photos. If it's designed work and kind of get that curated together, it's gonna save you a lot of time. If you can kind of pre organize what you're gonna do before you build it out on the website , and that really is a kind of a tip for any website. If you put those pieces together, you'll better understand and be better prepared to build it out because you do have to build it kind of backwards. You have to upload your content. Then you can organize the content and then publish it out in the way that you want. So you have to do a little bit of prep work here. which we're going to go through, like adding a new page and just directly uploading content. But again, if you haven't done that yet, pause the class. Takes some time, Dig through those files, find your best work. Fine. Whatever you're trying to showcase, get that kind of curated together. If you have that content on, be Hance or in a light room catalogue, hold off on on exporting that stuff out. Because the next chapter here we're going to talk about is how we can actually integrate be Hansen light room content into Adobe Portfolio in a very seamless and easy way. So otherwise, if you have other files, get those together. Now let's jump right in here. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna actually build out a brand new page. So obviously, in this site, currently, I don't have anything on display. This is my active portfolio. So I just kind of hidden things, but we're going to just do a brand new page, so I'm gonna select over on the left hand side, the blue plus sign, add content, and I'm going to select page. Now it's gonna ask me what I want to call it and then where I want to put it inside of the navigation. So if I want to have it as a top navigation item, I can select that if I wanna have it as a page inside of the portfolio page we have made, I can do that as well, or I can do it altogether. New gallery. And as you see, it automatically changed over to new gallery because galleries air kind of independent pages themselves, and that could be kind of tricky. So when you're thinking about it, you can have a page, or you can have a gallery, which then organizes pages inside of it. It's kind of tricky there. We're just gonna do a page, um, put a top navigation. And I'm just gonna call this test paid for right now because I think ultimately, I have no idea what this is gonna end up being. But just to show you the process, I'm gonna create that page. Now you'll see my portfolio or a dove. Hopefully will reload. Now, we've got test page up of the top. You see the title here, and we can start building with those same icons we covered in the last section. So one of the things I'm gonna show you right now because this is always kind of an irritant thing to me. We could build out this page and then worry about the navigation. But just seeing this up here really kind of irritates me. And that's just my pet peeve. Um, when I'm working, I like to work cleanly and I like to stay organized. So we're gonna jump over into the manage your content over on the left hand side. And what you're going to see is that new test page is listed at the top. When you hover over these three lines, you can actually click and drag, and I'm just going to click and drag that down here. So it's underneath now. What you probably missed is, while I did that, it readjusted up here. That's it. It's that simple to get your menu items moved around. So again, just to kind of recap. Any time you want to move things around, when you hover over these three lines, you can click and drag, and you can put these wherever you want and that will automatically update your menu at the top. So real nice feature there. Okay, let's get some content in here. I'm gonna just go straight up rough. I'm gonna upload some pictures directly into Adobe Portfolio so I can click on files. I've got a folder open here of some hockey players and some photos that I took. So I'm just gonna grab a couple of these. And I'm just, um, command clicking here on my Mac when hit, choose, and what it's going to start to do is actually upload these photos directly into the adobe portfolio system. Um, it's just a raw file storage, and as you can see, it bloom up nice and big. We've got some photos here. They're still loading. You're getting that preview. But one of the things that Adobe Portfolio does really well displays photos beautifully, nice and big. And so it's still going through that process. These are some pretty large files to because these are just the raw export is J. Peg. So the full quality size files, But as it's doing that, it's automatically put him on there. If I wanted to launch this site as is, people would be able to go to this page and just scroll through the photos, which is pretty nice. So it's one of those things that you can do now. As you see, like I've mentioned, we've got blue lines and what is the blue? I mean, it means that you can edit. So I'm gonna go down and hover on this guy here, and it will show you I can reorder the content. I can add all text, which is very good for accessibility purposes, screen readers, that kind of thing. So please do that. It's just a good common Web practice. You can add a link so it actually goes somewhere. You can add a caption, adjust the width and alignment the margins. You can replace image or just get rid of it. So say I don't want this anymore. Delete Gone. Very simple. Now you'll see that blue lion between with the plus sign. What does that mean? Like we talked about before? I can add any content module inside in between these. So if I wanted to add a paragraph of text, I can click on text. It gives me the ability to start typing right in here. I can put whatever I want it, so if I wanted to do stats. If I wanted to cover, you know this player individually. I could do something in there and just allows me to have that space. If I click out, it goes away because I didn't put anything in there so very easy, right? It's like I said, if you curate your files together, you can get them uploaded directly and start building out these pages. Really, If you were just doing a very simplistic portfolio, that's all you would need to do. You could upload all your files. People would be able to scroll through him. You could launch your site and really, you could be done not saying that's the best way to go. But you've gotten to that point so far you selected a template. You started to upload the content. It's now there you're able to go. So okay, let's go get some other options here so I could do video and audio, which again it looks for a file. So if you wanted to put a video file in here, you could do that. Obviously, there's other options if you'd rather embed it. This is where you could put that YouTube clip. Um, slide share. If you want to share slides. Adobe Spark. You could put all those things into this embed media, and there's this list here shows you what's compatible. They're always adding to that list as well, but that's a nice way to do it. I'm not one to like uploading my video directly to my portfolio. I do like it on YouTube because it's just another place that people can see it. And obviously, Google owned YouTube. They know what they're doing with video content. It's just a a nice other option besides kind of locking it into Adobe Portfolio. Some other options in here, Um, light Room and Creative Cloud. We're gonna talk about the next section about that integration. Photo grid is a new feature that actually allows you to put all these photos together, and it'll display it in a grid. So I'm gonna grab another chunk of ah images here, and I'm just randomly going to click on a few and choose. It's good and it's it's uploading, and it's displaying them as a grid, and it's kind of automatically sizing them based on the width of the website. If their portrait or landscape photos It's doing all sorts of different things that way. But it's a great way to display these images instead of having you know each one individually and scrolling. You know, it does look great having a photo nice and big, but at the same time Now you're if your portfolio grows, you're having a lot of people scroll. Um, you know, through a lot of images. So by doing the grid instead, you're able to display them, and then people are able to click on them. If they wanted to see them, you know, larger. So what I'm gonna do here, I'm going to preview? No. As this loads, you'll be able to preview it. You'll be able to see it. This one's gonna take a little bit of time here. So let's move on to the next section and talk about that integration with be hance with Creative cloud and with adobe light room 8. Creative Cloud Integration: Now one of the benefits of using Adobe Portfolio is that you're able to integrate pretty much any adobe content you've created and pull it across directly into the portfolio system . So what that means is, if you use the B Hands network, which is their creativity community network, you can share your content. You could kind of network with other creatives. Comment on their work. Share your work. It's a great network if you haven't used that, so definitely check out. Be hands. But if you save files out there, you're probably doing it using Adobe Creative Cloud. And so when you sink your designs across, you send it to the creative cloud, and then you pull it down and put it in to be hands. While one of the nice things with adobe portfolios. You can also pull those files indirectly through Creative Cloud here. So I'm back on the test page that I created. And so there's that normal module to start building your page and all the different content that you can put on there. Well, now we're going to select CC files, so when we select CC files, it's going to actually pop open and you're gonna have this separate window that connects to your creative cloud files. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna select ah, logo here that I created and boom instantly it's put into my portfolio. So instead of having to export it out of a PSD file or an AI file and then grab that file uploaded to the portfolio website and deal with it that way, I can just pull it down directly from Creative Cloud. So it kind of bridges the gap, and it allows you to really utilise all of adobe software and really utilize the benefits that they're giving you in the creative cloud license that you pay for. So by doing this, it saves you some time. And really, it's about organization as well. Why have to, you know, keep separate documents of your portfolio when that design works already out there. So being able to pull that across makes it really nice and easy. Now, I'm gonna go ahead and delete this image because now we're gonna talk about pulling from light room. So using the CC files and pulling design files across is one thing. If your photographer like myself, your portfolio is going to showcase the photo work that you've been doing more than likely . If you're in a light room user, you're gonna be pulling it from light room. Now, in the past, you would have to go into a light room, make your edits to a photo, export that out, grab that file, uploaded to portfolio and then move it around that way, and that just takes extra time. So it's easier. Instead, toe have light room. Do the work for you Now this is one of the big benefits that not a lot of people know about it. It's a newer feature that Adobe added to portfolio, so to get started, what I'm actually going to do is I'm gonna open up adobe light room. So I have Adobe Light Room opened up here, and I have a collection that I created under my adobe portfolio. It's how we categorize called football. So in here there's 18 different photos that are different photography moments shooting football that I've captured. And so to be able to take these photos and send them up to Adobe Portfolio, I have to start the process by sinking these with Adobe Creative Cloud So what you're gonna do is you're going to right click on the collection and you're going to select to sync it with light room CC. What this is going to do is it's going to start the process of transmitting those files up to the creative cloud system. You see this little icon? This little double arrow means that that collection is currently being sink. So if I go into this photo and say I make an adjustment, so I'm just gonna make a quick little adjustment here, what that's going to do now in the upper left hand corner, you can see it's a sinking one photo. It's taking that change that I made, and it's automatically sinking that up to Creative Cloud. By doing this, it means that it's going to be available for me to put it into my portfolio. So again, you have to start working in light room to make those photos available for you to then be able to pull down into the portfolio. You're gonna open back up the portfolio, and now you see, we have light room photos. Is that option? So when I click in here, it's going to connect to adobe light room Creative cloud and show the photos that I have sink to cross. Now, if I go in here and I click on one of these collections, so say football like we just showed before I'm able to go through and see the photos that have sink to cross. So I'm gonna grab the stadium shot of the Minnesota Vikings in a new stadium and import selected. When I do that, you see it load up and boom, it's there. It's on the page and it's ready to share through my portfolio. That's so much easier than having to manually adjust the files, gather the files, organized the files and then upload, and it makes it really nice toe. Pull this across because again, it's saving me Aton of steps, and it looks great. If I want to delete it, I can go in. I could delete the image. I can replace the image that lets me pull file across from my computer. If I want to put a different image in here from late room, I can just delete it and go grab another file and import that selected file instead. Now, if you want to go and take this one step further, You can actually import an entire gallery. So to do that, you're gonna actually do add content over on the left hand side, and one of your options is a light room album. When you do this, it allows you to take an entire album and import that into the system. Now, since I'm working on a portfolio that's already been established, I get the error message that says it's already been imported. Not a big deal, but I'm gonna go in and I'm gonna actually click into this, and I'm just gonna go to view the page. What this is is that entire collection that I had inside of light room is now a gallery in Adobe Portfolio. It grabbed all the photos and it put him in on this nice little photo grid here so you can see all of them at once. If I wanted to actually reorder these, I can, right click or I can click on the edit pencil reorder content, and I could start to add other grids on top of it. So if I want to do it that way, if I want to just edit this grid. I can drag and drop. I can move stuff around and I'm able tojust organize these. However I want, I could even do a dizzy if that's an organization. If I want, upload more files or add more files, I could do that as well. Click. I'm done here, but it's a great way to just pull over the entire collection Now. One of the things to keep in mind is that if you do this, it does pull it over. But it doesn't necessarily keep it sink. Now this is this is a trickier concept. So any edits you do in light room will automatically sync to the creative cloud server. What does not automatically sync is the creative cloud server to your adobe portfolio. Now, hopefully this is something Adobe will change in the future. They're aware that this is a request from a lot of people. However, if you going to manage content on the left hand side and select the little gear, you could actually reset from light room. What this means is, it basically deletes the content on your portfolio and read downloads. A brand new set of images. This is how you have to kind of bridge that gap between the edits you do in light room and actually having it show up on your portfolio. You'll reset from light room. It'll grab a brand new set, and it'll sink that over. This works for all of the galleries. You do this way. So as you can see here pretty much for my portfolio, I just have it important. The entire light room gallery. It's just a easier way for organization by having it do it this way. If I make a change, all I have to do is come in reset from light room, and it's going to show up automatically on this page, and it's gonna look good and be as up to date as I can possibly give it. So I hope that you found this information really helpful. I hope it speeds up the process, especially if you're using Adobe Creative Club files. If you're using light room like from C C. This will definitely save you some time, and it will help. You kind of figure out your own workflow moving in. So the next thing we're gonna look at is actually customizing these pages and how you can really set him up the way you want them to look 9. Customizing Your Pages: when it comes to customizing pages, you might feel kind of trapped or locked down because of the theme or the template that you chose for your adobe portfolio. However, this doesn't need to be the case. It's something that you actually do, have some control over. So what I want you to take a look at here is obviously this is a test page again, and I could put content on here. I'm gonna throw just a photo on just so it's there just for basic purposes here. Okay, Now, if I want to customize this page a little bit, you know, it's really blink. There's not a lot going on, and that's okay using this menu. So I'm gonna drag this over to the left here and realize you could drag this wherever you want. There's the add content. Okay, That's the same icons we saw before that were across the screen. I'm just gonna minimize that, but I can open up this page now. When I do that, it allows me to customize just the information on this page. So I'm gonna click edit page info. What this allows you to do is Philip the basic search engine optimization information. This is that content that shows up in, say, Google Search. If someone was to search for this page so you'll have a page title, a description, the date, and that kind of helps prove that your contents not stale. So you want to set that correctly? You have some custom fields, which give you options when dealing with your headers on the page, you get keywords, which again is part of your search engine optimization and then a check box. If it's adult content or not, since you do have to notify so photographers that are doing, um, you know more risky type shots. Maybe it's, um, you know, glamour photography. Maybe it's Mawr extreme photography. So sometimes you get injuries and things that are graphic. You want to make sure you have that checked. Just he don't run into any problems there. It's like done. If you turn the masthead on what you're gonna notice is this large header shows up, and so you're able to actually get this set up and have it work. However you need it to. If you need to have this big head or want to have it there, you could have it on. Otherwise, you can turn it off. No big deal. The next one is page background. And so this is for setting a difference. Because maybe you want a back on image. Maybe you want background color. So if you want to do something to customize that, you can do that. What's nice about it, as you can also, you know, size things. You can really take some control here and have it Repeat, if you want to tile it across. So you're getting some of those custom options you would get if you build the site with HTML and CSS. Some other options here. Page container. So that has to do with the specifics of how your pages laid out. Um, specifically, if you've got different margins you want to deal with if you want to go that route, um, how you want your alignment done, you can actually go in and flip the page header on and off. So that's that title at the top. You want it there? Don't want it there. Back to the top, this little arrow down in the bottom right hand corner. You can flip that on and off. You know, it's a nice thing to have if you're pages air really long. If they're not, there is no need to have it there. So you could actually turn that off. Now all these settings air just specific to this page. You can then open up all pages, so say you want to make a change to the container for every single page. It would get kind of annoying if you had to do that on each single one, so you could actually override these settings in all pages. It means this will apply to all the different pages you have set up, not the galleries, though you also have site wide changes, background colors, fought changes, the website container itself if you want navigation on or off, or if you want to get rid of the footer so all these allow you to go in and start to make this template your own. I know it was something that a lot of people complained about early on with Adobe Portfolio , but as normal, Adobe listens to its customers, starts to build these things out and give us more features, and they're continuing to update this and give us more features moving forward so you can really go in and customize this toe how exactly you want to appear and how you want to be able to customize your page. It's definitely something that's easy to overlook. And again, you don't want to, because a lot of these settings have to do with that search engine and how your site shows up. So if you want to be successful, you want people to naturally be able to navigate to your page, say, through a Google search, you're gonna want to make sure this content is filled in on all these different pages. Otherwise, they're not going to show up, and it might really hurt your business in the long run. So it's one of those things. Make sure you go through and take a look at all this stuff and make sure it's something that you want to do now. In the past one class, we mentioned a little bit here about the galleries in the differences, so looking at managing your content, I've got pages here home test page Blawg is actually a link you could tell by these little left hand icons my portfolios, those air, all actual galleries that pull across from light room. So getting into the next course here, we're gonna talk about customizing galleries and the specifics and how they operate because they operate a little bit differently. 10. Customizing Your Galleries: when it comes time to edit a gallery, you do have some customization you could do is well, So now this gallery, as we mentioned before, pulled across from light room, and I might want to change some things here so I can click on the blue pencil. As always, that means at it, and I can go in and edit the grid as I showed before. This allows you to change these photos around to move them around. However, you feel and really kind of display and choose how you want us to look. We can add things. We can pull things down, and that's kind of the basics that we covered before. But some more specific information has to do with with and the margin. So again the same location. I can go into the width, and I can actually start to change how wide I want this now. As you see as I changed the with, it changes how the grid displays. So if you don't wanna have something that's multiple size and organized differently, you could shrink this down and I could get it down to where it's just a two column layout. It's all up to you. How you want these things to look can go on and do the exact same thing with the margins. So I have the ability to make space above and make space below. When dealing with with the footer. It's all up to you how you want these to display. When you're dealing with these galleries, it does kind of give you an advantage. But at the same time you do lose the ability to do some customization because it is pulling in all of these things together. So when it's pulling it all in his one gallery, there's some things you might want to think about. The way that this displayed might not be ideal. Maybe you'd rather have it come in and just display it specifically one image at a time. Now, to do that, you can get into the settings over here again. I'm in my manage content, and I could just go through and I could delete the page and I could start fresh. That's always an option in how you might want to change some things around. The other things that you might want to think about is really maybe I don't want to do it as a gallery. Maybe I just want to bring it in as a photo at a time. Now it's still sink with light room so I can go in select football, and I can just pick one image at a time, just as we showed before and get that one image. This is kind of nice if you have something you want to showcase where I could have one large image and then I could do the grid and you could go that way as well. So realize that it's not an all or nothing. It's just depending on how you want to build this out and where you want the content to go again. I like the gallery feature just because that's kind of where I'm at. But it depends on what you want to showcase. If I'm really trying to get maybe some or NFL gigs, I'm probably gonna want to bring the NFL photos up and foremost and take the college ones and kind of maybe keep those smaller just to put the priority in a different spot. Really, it's up to you how you want to explore through this and what you want. It to look like. In the next lesson, we're gonna talk about advanced settings and this is advanced settings all across this site . We're going to cover some of the in depths of setting up the site how it operates. We're gonna talk about setting passwords for galleries and pages and really, how you can take this to the whole another level where this portfolio becomes. Maybe you're only site that you're using. Now, remember, this is included in your creative cloud package. So wouldn't it be great to have a website showcasing your work that you don't have to pay for on top of another subscription? 11. Advanced Portfolio Settings: OK, now it's time to really dig into Adobe Portfolio and look at the advanced settings that exist out there. One of the first places the start is gonna be over here on the left hand side, the gear for edit your settings. Bringing that up is going to bring up all different settings that apply for the entire account, and there things that you want to pay attention to. The 1st 1 is landing page. So it's about where do you want to send people when they go to your address? Where do you want them to go first? I do. You have a home page? Are you sending him to a gallery? It depends on how you want to break this down. Also, what do you want to do for a 404 page not found? If someone types in the wrong message, where do you want to send them? Now, when dealing with websites, the best thing is gonna be to actually build out your own custom for a four page and just have that not included in the navigation. That's easy enough. Creating a new page. Make it 404 and you're good to go. But these air basically functionality basics of how Adobe Portfolio is going to work. The next one is analytics. How do you want your Google analytics connected to this site? Now, you definitely wanna have Google analytics connected to this site, That's for sure. You want to make sure that you're able to track people who go to your site and see what state they're coming from? What city? Get some of the basics of who your users are. So if you have a Google Analytics account set up, you can definitely go on. Put that information here. Now, what Adobe has done really well in the settings is they've created this box of the top, which explains all these settings to you. So you know what you're doing. If there's something in here you're not sure about, it explains it, and then it always refers you to a support article, which is great as well. For domain names, you're able to actually have a custom domain set up. So if you own your own domain name, so I have J. Bowman photo. I can have that go directly to my adobe portfolio. That way, people aren't having to type J. Bowman photo dot my portfolio dot com, which that link still works. But obviously it's lacking some professionalism by having your own domain name. So if you have one, you can set it up here on. It also walks through the process. If you want to actually add one and look at getting one. I highly encourage everybody to get their own domain name again. There's there's a professionalism that comes with it, and it just helps with your search optimization. Of course, that's the next option as well. Search optimization in Here is your website title and the meta description. This is what shows up when someone searches your home page through Google. You see that title in that little description, so you make sure you want to put that information in there. You want to make sure it indexes. Allowing search engines to index means it's going to show up in their search engine and then automatically submit site updates. So any time you make a change, it will update your site map and sent. That to Google is well, Vava Khan has to do with that image in the top left hand corner. I highly recommend it. You're seeing that more and more, especially people bookmark your site. You get to pick the image that goes there. Um, it's a great thing. It's a very small 32 by 32 pixels. But it's something that represents who you are, your company, your logo, whatever it may be again, just the little details here that add to the professionalism of your site. The Web clip icon is another way for how it might show up on a mobile screen. So you actually have the ability toe upload an icon that would be kind of like a icon for an app, and you have the ability to do that site options. So this is some of your light boxes disabling right click to protect your images. How things hover. These are accessible through here. Now, just something to say with this disable right Click realize that, yes, you can disable right click, but people still have the ability to take screenshots. They can still take your images. Um, you know, they're just not downloading the high res version. So yes, it's secure to a point, but obviously, you know, copyright your images, make sure you're protecting yourself Password protection. You could actually put an entire password on the site as a whole. Some people like to do that. If they want to lock it down and use it just for clients, you'd have the ability to do that. Now, if you don't want to do a pastor of protection as a whole, you can actually set it up on a per page per gallery basis. So I'm actually gonna exit out of here, I'm going to manage content. And so we're on that football page. I'm a select the year I can add a page password. What this allows me to do is lock down this page or this gallery to users with a password. If say, you have a wedding client or you have a business client and you want them to have access to the photos or to your design work, you can do that here and give him a password, and it will keep others out of there. So realize you can do it on an individual basis like that. It doesn't have to be for the entire site. Okay, we're gonna go back into settings, cookie banner. So this is a way that you know the cookie notice. So if you've seen that more and more sites or doing that, especially if you're a non US customer, um, it's one of those things that you have to notify so you can have that and have your content put in there as well. Restore websites styles. So if you published your site and you screwed something up, you can restore it back to the default template. So never feel like you're 100% stuck. Same with unpublished in your portfolio. If something really got messed up and you just would rather take the site down temporarily , you can unpublished shit put up in unpublished message, and I'll give you a chance to take it off line and fix what you need to do. Accountant Region. That's just a way to manage your account through Adobe and select your current region, which would be your country that you're using it in. So all of these settings air located in that gear again to the left for your site settings . It's a great place to go in, customize this stuff, get your domain names set up and do some of those advanced options that you want again to make this your website? You want to be able to set this thing up and function as your website without having to pay somebody else. You're SmugMug years and folio. All these other customers, um, that offer these services. You want to just say, Hey, I want to do this for Adobe Portfolio. You honestly can. When it first came out, I wasn't sure about it. I really was uneasy about putting everything in here. I was a Zen Folio user. Um, but as Adobe continues to listen to the its content users and make changes, it's been getting better and better, so I highly recommend it. By this point, you kind of building your site out. You're getting it ready to go. So of course, naturally, the next lesson we're gonna cover is launching and updating your live site. 12. Launching Your Portfolio: Okay, So now you've gone through, you set up all your content and you're ready to finally publish your site. So as you can see here, what I did is basically turned my portfolio bag on. Since I did have this edited before I've got a photo grid is my home page. If you select portfolio, you have links here to all the separate galleries. Now again, these are all pulled automatically from light room. So they're sinking across his collections. And I have this content in here exactly how I want it. I have an external link to my blawg and I have my contact page all set to go. Once I feel like everything is good to go, I can actually click on preview, and that's gonna open it as a live site. What I like about this is that I can look at it as a computer. I can look at it from a tablet perspective, a landscape tablet perspective. Ah, cell phone and a cell phone and landscape. So it gives me the ability to interact with my page. Exactly how user would on these different devices. I get to understand the full system. I get to understand the full user experience, which is a very, very important thing to test to make sure it's exactly how you want it to be. I'm gonna go back to edit here, so I'm back in edit mode. I feel like everything is good to go. Feel like this is exactly how I wanted to look. Now it's time to launch the site. I can click on Update Live Site and it publishes. It's that simple now, one of the cool things, as I mentioned before with be Hance, it automatically says, Hey, you have a new project in here. Do you want that page to be a part of your be hands you can select to share it or No, thanks. Or don't show it again. I'm just No thanks cause that's a test page. But now my site is live. It's 100% out there for anybody to view. It's out there for the world, and I could start making at its right now. See, the fun part about this is with Adobe Portfolio. I can make these edits and make these changes without my actual website updating. So during the course of this lesson and actually, throughout this entire course, my websites been functional. But as I developed and move things around and deleted things, nobody saw that until I actually updated the live site. So you can go through. You can prep, you can move things around. You can try things while your website stays live out there for the public, which, as we all know, you don't wanna have down time. You want to make sure your contents out there for people to find you. If you're a designer Web designer, you want those contracts. If you're a photographer, people are looking at your photos. They're looking at different gigs, so it's important to, you know, keep that site live. But it allows you to make these changes to test different themes. You can do whatever you want to continue to explore. The last thing I want to touch on is down here, this little bell says, updates. This is where Adobe pushes out the updates that they've been making to Adobe Portfolio. So the more recent thing, they added, was paid specific passwords again. Something that all of us were asking for in February. October was the integration with Adobe Light room with Adobe Max coming up, it's every October. You can always expect there to be some new functionality that's going to come out. Um, I haven't heard specifically what it is yet, but I should be able to start talking to the right people at Adobe and see what I can find out. But again, Adobe Portfolio. It's absolutely great. It's super easy to launch. So I hope that you've found this really helpful. You've got in your portfolio together, and that way you could start sharing your content with the world. 13. Conclusion: All right. Well, that about wraps it up. By this point, you should have a live adobe portfolio site out there for the world to see. I hope you found this course nice and easy to navigate. And here's a nice update to Adobe Portfolio adobes, always trying to increase their features, increase their offering and they're always listening to customers what they want. And Adobe Portfolio has been getting some great attention lately. So here's some updates that have happened since the original class was released. So flee you have a chance to check out this quick video and start utilizing these new features. So I'm just starting off at the Adobe Portfolio page portfolio dot adobe dot com. I'm gonna sign back in using my account. And so one of the things in here that you're going to notice right away is that I have multiple sites available now, this isn't something we had before. You can actually create multiple portfolios within the one account. So this is something that's been in demand for quite some time now. We finally have the ability to create multiple sites, so you're you might be wondering why you might want to do this. But if you're a photographer designer, maybe you're both. It would make sense to have separate portfolios for each of the different things you're trying to showcase. So right off the bat you can have multiple portfolios, and that's that's a huge feature right there. Now I'm gonna click on, create a new site and what, you're going to notice that there's actually two types of sites now. So in the past, we had the gallery of work. This is that traditional portfolio experience that you're used to that we've had in the past. But now we have Splash page. Now what Splash page is a single page website that allows you to easily create and integrate your work? So why might you do this? You might ask. Well, ultimately, you might use a splash page just to cover a single event. So if you recovering a wedding, you could actually do a splash page portfolio off. Just those wedding photos. Um, covering a live event. Maybe you're a photographer. You cover a lot of different things. But you wanna have just a wedding photography portfolio or just a sports photography portfolio, you're able to use Splash page to create that single type page set up, which will allow you to do that so you could have a different domain name associated with it. You could he have very specific content on that so that's a great new option just right off the bat to start off with. Hey, you could have multiple sites and you can have different kinds of sites set up within Adobe Portfolio. Now, I'm gonna go back here, and I'm just gonna click into a draft portfolio. I've opened to talk about some of the new features as well. So what you're gonna notice right here and the very beginning of this, You know, template demo is edit this button. We've got buttons. Now, we also can add social profiles into the system. So this is something that we kind of had before, but we've got it in a much different type of set up. So if I want to go in here, I can actually edit the social icons. And so all I need to do is flip the switch and put in that you are all so we've got Twitter be hance linked in Facebook. Instagram. You know, those are pretty common, but all the way down to wordpress sites get hub if you're a programmer. 500 PX for photographers. Soundcloud. So if you're doing different work with podcasting or you're a musician, you can showcase your work that way all through these social profile icons toe link to those different channels. So great job with Adobe. They're helping us kind of get our network going and continue on pushing people to that different content because obviously, Adobe is a big supporter of creativity and content, and so this is a great way to link those all together. Now, looking at some of the settings, I'm gonna click on that gear here. We've got some new settings to dig into a swell. So in the past, we talked about connecting your domain name. So if you had purchased the domain name you wanted to connect it to your portfolio is very easy to do. So now Adobe allows you to purchase a domain name one stop shop people so they use name cheap to do this and you can search a domain. You can make that purchase and do that kind of upkeep all within Adobe portfolio. You don't have to have that external domain name host anymore, worrying about kind of getting all that configuration taking care of. Ultimately, you could still have the free sub domain here portfolio sub domain at dot My portfolio dot com, and you can change this now it says you can Onley change it five times now. I'm not really sure why you'd ever need to change it five times. Um, it's kind of an odd, trivial number, but you are able to type in whatever you want as that sub domain. So this again might be very important. When you're doing those splash page portfolios, you could set up a different sub domain, however you see fit as long as it's available there. So other options that I want to point out we've had the fabric on before. Which again, is that little tiny icon you see up in a browser. But what we now have is Web clip icon, which allows you to kind of play in that mobile world and so you can create a mobile icon that people could use to save your site. So whenever you're looking at like safari or if you're looking at chrome and you see kind of those bookmark square icons, now we have the ability to upload those, and they say, you know, 180 by 180 pixels. We also have the ability to control the social sharing thumb now. So when you post a site on, say, Facebook, it pulls up that thumbnail image to display along with that link. Now we have the ability to upload and control what that looks like ourselves. So this is a big thing for us to be able to again control your brand and get your name out there. So just another great feature in here. We've got password protection. We can password protect the entire website. So again, if you're doing a splash page, you could put all of those wedding photos for that wedding couple. They would have to log in with a password and kind of dole out the content from there. So we've got that kind of extension of what we can do to allow people that have access. And there's some more changes coming with password protection in the future that I think everybody is really going to enjoy. Ultimately those air, some of them, the major changes, that air, they're one of the things I do want to show is an awesome bit for dealing with photography specifically so inside of my photography portfolio. I have the ability now to actually have descriptions show up on my images so you'll see these top three here my hockey portfolio by click on that. There is now a full description on these pages. Now, the way that I actually did that was using Adobe Light Room. So if you have a title or a caption inside of your adobe light room portfolio, so again, we we covered in the original taking those collections and Adobe Light Room, sinking those collections to the cloud and then pulling those in to Adobe Portfolio what you have to do, get those titles and captions in and then just reset from light room. When you do that, it's gonna pull those titles and captions across, and then you're automatically going to see that on top of your photos. And that's, you know, a great way just to kind of give a little more detail to these photos when you're actually presenting that information to your clients or to whoever is visiting your website. It's just another another great way for us to do this. The last thing that I want to talk about, I really don't have a visual for here, but ultimately, if you are an Adobe stock contributor. So if you're selling photos on Adobe Stock, you now get portfolio included with that package, and you can sell your stock images through an adobe portfolio website. So this is a huge thing. It's an amazing opportunity for those people to get into selling adobe stock. It's very easy process to do so. If you're interested in that, you can definitely google it. Andi, find out what it takes to get into selling stock on Adobe, but realized that you can do that now through Adobe Portfolio, so that pretty much wraps up thes major changes coming to Adobe Portfolio. I think there's going to be some more changes coming up very shortly. They keep working on this, that he making this better. And so I think the concept is there listening to us. They're listening to the creatives, and Adobe is doing an amazing job delivering on all the things that we're looking for. So hopefully this kind of gives you a quick up it update overview of some of the changes you can get in here, play around and really take advantage of everything. Adobe Portfolio is here to provide to you
