in the industry, we're going to be

character development. We're going to look
at personal life and career balance and
much, much more. So make sure that
you watch each video in its entirety in full detail. Take notes where you can and
above all, enjoy the course.
2. Captivating Your Audience: Captivating our
audience as actors. Now, as act as our primary goal is always to
captivate our audience and make sure that we engage them emotionally invested
in what we're doing. Whether we're performing on stage or were in
front of the camera, your ability to connect
with your audience is absolutely vital and essential to the success of
that performance. By focusing on specific
techniques and strategies, you can captivate your audience and create a memorial
performance. We'll lost in their memory is
for a very, very long time. And that is the sign
of a good performer. Important thing to
understand when captivating your audience is the story
that you're telling. Okay, So we've mentioned previously about
research and characters, and context and history
and motivations. All of these plays a
massive, massive part. So making sure that we're sharing and working
with our directors and colleagues in understanding
the story in itself. The story that we're telling is so important because
it's going to bring that depth and that new
wants to app performance. The next thing is, the next
thing when connecting with that audience is just to
use our physical presence. We've got so many
tools available to us. I've spoken previously about body language,
facial expressions, physicality within
our characters, because that's what's going to make our audience believe in us. They believe what we're
feeling in characters. Make sure that we've got subtle gestures that
enable us to communicate certain subtexts and
create a sense of intimacy and connection
is a huge plus. So having that contrast
between a big, bulk physical character
and small time, the nuances play a massive part. Another thing is just focusing on being in the
present moment, okay, so just use your
senses to create a vivid and Immersive
Performance. Make sure that you're engaging with your fellow actors and the audience by being fully
present in the very moment, it can help create
a sense of realism, a sense of intimacy, and that vital sense of
authenticity that you absolutely need when you're delivering a scene so important. The next thing is take risks. Never be afraid to take risks, push boundaries because that's what makes a winning
performance. Okay, I can't say
it strongly enough. Just experiment with
different techniques, different styles of delivery,
explore that range. There's so many ways that
you can play a character, so many ways you can, ways that you can engage
an audience, okay? It's going to help
you keep dynamic, it's going to help
you keep flexible. And ultimately
it's going to keep that audience engaged
with what you're doing. Finally, just be yourself
when it comes to performing, okay, I don't mean be yourself. Be yourself when you're
playing a character, but be confident in yourself. You know who you
are as a person, you're trained to do this, you've practiced to do this. So be yourself, have confidence that you can play
this character, okay? Because you've got
a unique style, you have a unique voice, you have you have an authenticity
that no one else has. I'm not you will not meet. We're all individual
and that's what's so powerful about this is you
are an individual, okay? And you being an individual
is going to captivate that audience in
addition to the skill, in addition to the
emotional connection that being present, the risk-taking,
the authenticity, understanding the character
of the story, backstory. All of those things mixed in together with you
as an individual, individual, unique performer
is what's going to sell. This is what's going to
make people be invested. It's what's going to make the
audience believe it's going to ultimately captivate
the audience.
3. Building and maintaining relationships : Now as an act of
building and maintaining relationships within the
industry is paramount. It's really, really
important and crucial to your
essential success. These relationships can
lead to more additions, jobs and of course, more
infrequent opportunities. I'm going to share
with you some really important tips to build and maintain relationships in
the industry as an actor. The first thing is, as I've mentioned numerous times in the last
couple of subjects, attending industry events
is one of the best ways to build relationships with
industry professionals. Attending events allows you
to just talk to people and build relationships and really comfortable
social setting. These events gives you the
opportunity to connect with so many different people
from casting directors, agents, producers, and other creatives
from all walks of life. You never know who
you're going to meet and what opportunity
can come from it. Always be professional
and courteous though when meeting industry
professionals, always be professional, always maintain professionalism
at all times. Be sure to introduce yourself, inform them of your work, make sure you follow
up with a thank you note and even an
e-mail after an event. It's important people
remember who you are and you do that by keeping communication,
keeping in contact, always important
after you've made a really good connection with somebody at an industry event, or you've met them somewhere to maintain that communication, follow them on social media, send them an occasional update. Maybe it's an update about show you are in some work that
you've been featured in, even invite them to
your performance is if they're close by to
you in some capacity. Another way is to offer help. One way to build relationships here is to offer
your services to other people within the industry to help out with the project. Even volunteer some time. Sometimes I've volunteered for projects that are happening
in my local area. I want to take part, I want
to take part in some filming. It's all about
relationship building. It's all about putting yourself out there because
you never know from helping out in an opportunity with somebody what's
going to come from it, even if it's voluntary. Finally, it's important to be genuine with your
interactions, okay? You don't need to
put on a front. You just need to be BU, be genuine, make
connections with people, build those relationships
because those relationships built on mutual respect
and of course, admiration. In conclusion,
though, building and maintaining those really
crucial relationships in the industry, it's going to require you
to take action, okay? It's going to require
you to attend event. It's going to require
you to help out where you can maybe volunteer
for things, as I've said, maintaining that contact
after you've met somebody offering to help out be genuine
with your interactions. By following these tips, you're taking legitimate
and positive steps and positive action. That's how you build
strong relationships and network within the industry, always leads to opportunities
and it always helps you on your way to
success with your career.
4. Staying In Character: Okay, staying in character is another really important topic that I want to look at here, because there's
going to be times when you might get thrown off. You get thrown out character, and you have to be professional
and jump back in there, whether it's onstage or screen, maintaining that integrity to your character is absolutely essential because you want to be convincing and you
want to be engaging, and we have to believe in you. So here's some additional
tips to help you stay in character when it
comes to your performance. Now, the first thing that, the first thing is making sure we've got that research in here. Okay, we've looked at Baxter, we've got our motivations, we've got our
character objectives. We know exactly what they're
thinking at all given times because we know
our characters so well, we're going to use
that knowledge. We're going to utilize
that knowledge to make sure it's always here. And whenever we need
that knowledge, we can rely upon it and we
can pull it out of the bag. We can go Listen, I know what this character is
thinking all times. Another thing is
making sure that we define our characters
characteristics, okay, so what does
their posture like? What's their vocal pitch, their accents, their
facial expressions? Once we know what they are, when it comes to the character. And once we practiced
it wholeheartedly, we can do it off by heart. We can do it by the book. It's going to help
us stay in character because it doesn't
matter where we go. If things happen,
somebody makes a mistake, we can jump right back in there because we know a
character so well, we know the nuances when
it comes to physicality. Following on from that, we
go back to the objectives, okay, our character's objective. Do they want, when they
want to fall in love, that they want to seek revenge. Once we know what that objective is and we study it
and we remember it, it's going to just
motivate us through their performance because
it's always here. It's just like everything
else with the character. We know where to go with it at any given moment,
We've got a job to do. And that is attained
that objective because ultimately every character has
got that objective. Improvising with a character, okay, improvising is
a world in its own. We know that. But you're gonna probably likely experienced
unexpected situation. Somebody forgets a line,
something happens. And this is the
time where it's so important to improvise within the parameters of
your character. Okay, so using the knowledge
of what we've just spoke about to just create a response that feels
natural in the moment. Improvising has to feel natural, but it's got to be authentic. And you can do that because
you started the character. So again, just making
sure that we're taking care of ourselves
outside of our acting, okay, because
playing a character can be emotionally taxing. We know that it can
really wear us down. So we need to make sure that we're looking after
ourselves again, we're human beings, so we got
to take breaks when we can. We've got to practice
self-care. Okay? We gotta make sure
it goes back to this whole thing of
making sure we are primed and ready in the best
possible condition to deliver a solid, strong,
convincing performance. So in conclusion, staying
in character as an actor, it's going to require
careful research. It's going to require consistent physical and vocal
characteristics. Because we've got to
focus on our character and our characters
objectives as well. Improvise if necessary. If there comes an instance to a situation where you've
got to improvise guys, you have to do it. Now. If ways or buts about it, utilize what you know, utilize your knowledge and
have that confidence to improvise in the moment in
reliability to the scene. Okay, guys, So those
are some of the things I think are really
important when it comes to staying
in character. And one final thing I
would say on this is always expect the unexpected. Wearing the business wear, especially if you're delivering
a live performance, e.g. things are gonna happen,
I can't say it enough. Always expect the unexpected. Be ready to make
changes on the fly. Sometimes that happens, but you're gonna be confident,
you're going to be ready. And that's going to come from all the work
that you've put in. It doesn't matter what
happens out there, whatever whatever goes on, you'll prepared and you're ready because you've
put the work in. So you're not afraid to
improvise if necessary. Just another thing that
I wanted to say as well as going back to boundaries
and pushing our boundaries. If you're very confident
within your character, don't be afraid to try
new things, okay, try, try to just switch
things up every so often because that's really what keeps things exciting
and fresh, right? Sometimes when we know a
character off by heart, we might play around a
little bit of thing. Well, actually,
maybe they would do this or maybe maybe
we can try this with them because I think
the character would potentially do this
in a certain scene. They might deliver
it in a certain way, or they might take
their time delivering a certain line or they may switch things up a little
bit when it comes to, I don't know their
physical presence. Never be afraid to try and just go with the flow sometimes
and try new things. Because again, it goes back
to that self-improvement. It goes back to that learning. You want to improve,
you want to get better. Sometimes we have to, we have to switch
things up a little bit. Okay. So that's just another
thing that I wanted to share with you and
just emphasize again. So guys, make sure
that you take note. I know it's sort of
information here, but again, we want to make sure that we're doing the best job as possible. And that's going to
come from the above. And what we've mentioned.
5. Staying Motivated: Another big thing for
us guys is staying motivated during those slow and quite
challenging periods, which inevitably
a lot of us will face at some point in
our careers as actors. There's times during
your career when you got to experience what we call
downtime in your career, which essentially means that
It's challenging to stay motivated during
these times because you're out of work and
not everybody has this. Some people are very lucky
and they're constantly work. But for a lot of us, it's quite challenging and it
can be quite hard to really stay really good
motivational standards because things just
seem to be very, very slow at the moment. But I'm going to
try and give you a couple of tips to
really help push that motivation
when you're having a bit of a quiet
time, take a break. It's really important to
give yourself permission to take a break,
recharge batteries, okay, sometimes when
we're fixated on getting the next role in getting the next audition and
it's not happening. We get frustrated, we get angry. We need to take a step back, maybe take a vacation, spend time with family, just take a break. Because it's going to help
you gain a new perspective. It's going to help you come
back with a renewed sense of motivation and really important energy for you to keep going. Another thing is setting
new goals, okay, use this slow time to reflect on your career
goals and possibly, maybe set new goals as well. Consider taking some
classes to improve your current skills so
you're still keeping yourself active and
in the industry. So that goes for
additional workshops, networking events as well. Just always keeping the foot inside the door
because you never know when the next opportunity
is going to come your way, okay, the next thing is just
genuinely staying positive. We've discussed mindset
and it's so important, it can be so easy
to just fall into that negative state of mind during those slow
periods in your career. Instead, just focus
on the positives, focus on the important
aspects of your career. Practice, gratitude,
okay, maybe, maybe create a journal. Think about the
things that you're thankful for and just actually realize how far you've come from where you
were back then to now. Really important. I've discussed mindset and I
can't emphasize it enough. The next thing is
just keeping active. Keep active guys,
continue to be sharp. Practice your craft. Doing your own time. Read scripts,
discover new plays, discover new pieces of work. Read monologues,
rehearse scenes, watch things on TV that
you find inspirational. Attended theatre productions, community events,
whatever it is, just keep yourself
maintained and going in the industry so you're familiar with
what's going on, okay, It's going
to help you stay quick and sharp and creative. The next thing is
just resiliency. Resiliency so important that remembering these downtimes and your career are pretty
normal for a lot of us and it's just a standard
part of the industry. It's important to stay
resilient and just keep focused working towards that goal regardless of what's
going on here. Focus on what's in front of you. Keep the attitude, maintain, maintain that work ethic, maintain that
determination. Okay. So in conclusion, It's gonna be hard to
stay motivated at times, but just make sure that in
those times where it's quiet, you're taking breaks, okay? You're, you're giving yourself an opportunity to really
look at those goals, setting new goals,
you're staying positive, you staying active, and
you're staying resilient. By implementing
these techniques, you're gonna be able to maintain a positive mindset and hopefully continue to work
towards your career even when it's quiet and
it's a challenging time.
6. Self Improvement: Okay guys, so seeking
improvement within your craft. As actors, we should always, always seek improvement
in our crafts because it truly is
an ongoing process. And that ongoing process
requires dedication. It requires hard work, it requires a willingness
to learn and grow. There's never an end game here. So whether you're
starting out or you've been in
industry for years. It really doesn't matter
because there is always room for improvement by focusing on specific areas
of your craft and seeking out opportunities
for growth and development. You can take your skills
to that next level and achieve greater success in
your craft as an actor. Now let's look at
some additional tips. Hit. The first step in
helping you improve craft is to identify the strengths and
weaknesses that you have. We spoken about this
a little bit earlier, but it's so important to create that contrast of
what you're really good at. Just those things that you might need a little bit more work on. Now, how do we
improve with that? So taking classes,
really important, taking workshops, making
sure that you're being proactive when it comes to
practicing in your own time. These are all things that
are really important and they're gonna help
you when it comes to improving those weaknesses. Now another aspect
to improve is just staying up to date with industry
trends and developments. Okay. What's happening in
the industry right now? Are you attending those
networking events to find out what's going on? What's the hottest thing going on in town
when it comes to theatre productions are
irrelevant on social media. You checking up and
checking in with casting directors and people
that are in the industry. Are you checking in
and networking with people and making comments
and interacting when you can. Because this is a
people business guys and it's so important
that you do that. I can't emphasize how
important networking is. I've mentioned previously
that even to this day, attending events and
speaking to directors, producers, actors,
cinematographers, even they are all potential
opportunities for you to film productions
because this is again, people that know, people. Making sure that we're
really big on building that network and practicing
and networking skills. Okay. So again, we've spoken on
practice previously as well. We spoken on rehearsing
scenes with fellow actors, rehearsing monologues
in your own time. Just that generic
regular practice, whether it's at home,
at work, whatever. Just make sure that you're
taking time to do that. Even if you have to record and record the rehearsal process just to see yourself
and see where you might need to improve
upon is another big one. Even if you're not quite comfortable with
recording yourself, make sure you do it for
the sake of improvement. Finally, I just want to touch on this thing called criticism. Okay guys, we all receive criticism because Let's face it, honest feedback about our work
and how it makes us feel. It's not always going
to be easy to digest. But making sure that you just embrace that growth mindset
we spoke about and focus on improvement rather than perfection is going to help you when it comes to taking that
constructive criticism. But in conclusion,
seeking improvements as an actor for your craft is
a truly ongoing process. It's going to require
that dedication. It's gonna require
that hard work. It's going to require
that willingness to grow. Going back to the drawing board, identifying those strengths, working on those weaknesses, staying up to date
with industry trends, networking as much as you can, practicing as much as you can, and always being open to that, constructive criticism
are the key factors that are going to help you
achieve greater success.
7. Extra tips for audition success: Additional advice for
preparing for an audition. Now, auditioning can be completely nerve
wracking for actors. We all know it's something
that we just can't avoid, but it's an opportunity
to showcase your talent, as I've said before
in this course, preparing for your
audition though, is crucial for success. The several additional steps I'm going to go
through that you can take to ensure that
you absolutely deliver your very
best performance. Number one, now, when you're
preparing for an audition, it's imperative to research as much as you can
about the character, even if the casting
director hasn't given you too much
information about the role, do what you can analyze
as much as you can. Research themes, projects,
anything that can give you a bit of an edge for
when you go into the room. It's also really impressive
for a casting director to see then act as taking their initiative and
done the research. Work on script analysis
for character development tries to get an understanding of this character's backstory. What are their motivations, relationships with
other characters? Create a backstory and creates an objective
for your character, as I've spoken about before, just think about
how you can bring your own unique interpretation
to a particular role. Now, when it comes to
auditioning material, choose a piece that
showcases your strengths and suits your tone and
style for the project. Practice your lines,
practice blocking, rehearsing in front of a mirror, go through it with a
friend or colleague. Just make sure you've got
a clear understanding of the emotional beats
of the scene and how to transition between them. Now, before you audition, make sure that
you're well rested. Okay, It's often underrated. Actors don't rest enough
that don't hydrate properly. Make sure you're comfortable
and able to move freely. So when you go into the room, you're ready to rock and roll. Make sure you arrive
in plenty of time and you give yourself an
opportunity to prepare. Don't walk in late because
it's never a good look. Now, during the addition, take your time, breathe
deeply and calm those nerves. Remember to listen, react to the person that's
working in the same. If you stay in the
present moment, don't be afraid to be bold
and take those risks, but be open to direction and
feedback from your director. In conclusion here,
preparing for auditions is so
essential for us as actors to give us the best opportunities
for potential new roles. By researching the project
that you're going into. Having a look at the
character in detail, developing an objective
and a backstory, practicing the lines, taking care of yourself
before you audition. You'll be making sure
that you give yourself the best chance to
succeed in that audition. So make sure you take
what I said on board. I know it's a lot to take in. It's a lot to understand
and write down or memorize, but these honesty things
that really do work and have a massive impact on you if you're looking to succeed
in your auditions.
8. Personal Life and Acting : As an actor, balancing
your personal life with your acting career can
be a real challenge. It's important to prioritize self-care, as I've
mentioned before, and maintain healthy
relationships while also pursuing your career. I know how focused you are and know how determined you are. I know how badly you
want to succeed, but it's always
really important to maintain some kind
of healthy balance. Because at times
before we know it, things are getting
really, really difficult. And it's all because we're not balancing our real
life and career. It's important to set those boundaries between
personal life and career. Decide how much time you want
to devote to your career. What I mean by
this is makes sure your structured and
you make time and you make sure you have specific
time for specific things. And you have that
through a schedule. You communicate with
people that you care about and let them know when
you're working on stuff, keep them posted with things
so they can support you. But also because
they can really get understand what you're going
through and what's going on. And they realized that
things that you're actually dealing with
with your career, okay. Prioritize that self-care,
taking care of yourself, as I've mentioned before, is so important when it comes
to maintaining things. Making sure we're getting
enough sleep or eating well, we're exercising,
we're taking breaks, were actually engaging with our hobbies outside
of acting. Okay. These are the things
that are going to help you relax and recharge. And ultimately they've
really important things to keep on in your life as well. Make time for your loved ones. Maintain those healthy
relationships because it's so crucial for our
individual well-being. How can we be good at aircraft? How can we perform well if
we're not willing ourselves, okay, it's important we
make time for those people, whether it's a
dinner with family, a date night with a partner, it's important to nurture
those relationships. Don't allow them to fall to
the wayside because you're so consumed with acting and
your career and your craft. I get it on the same.
I'm obsessed with it. I love it, but it's important
to find the balance, okay? Staying organized
is another thing that's really important
because you want to be able to manage your time and manage your time reduces stress, okay, so as I've said,
have a schedule, get a planet a
calendar schedule, the auditions, schedule,
the rehearsal, okay? Make sure you look
at the commitment to see what commitments
you've got on outside of your career and you're
acting and make sure that you're making an
effort with those as well. It's going to help you
stay on top of things. If you keep everything
structured and organized, what we don't want to do is
neglect important things that are going on in
our personal lives. I've already mentioned
about staying present. It's really, really important, especially with loved ones, that we make an effort to be
fully present and engaged, put away the phone, stop checking the emails for your agents to get
back to you or for any opportunities
that are coming in when you're
working your focus, you've focused on
the task at hand. You don't want to be distracted. This is important and I understand that and
you should do that because that's what
everybody that's motivated to achieve
their goals should do. However, personal time
is personal time. It's personal time for
you and your loved ones, put your phone in
the emails away. In conclusion, balancing
the personal life and your acting career will require setting boundaries
guys, prioritizing self-care, making time for your
loved ones and staying organized by
implementing these tips of what we've just
discussed here, this really will help you maintain more of a balance
in your life between personal life and your
acting career and goals whilst
nurturing everything else that's really
important to you, like well-being and loved ones. As I've said, it's
not something again, that too many people explore when it comes to acting courses, but I want to give
you a realistic take on the industry and life
is inactive for a career. It's really important guys, because we've all got life outside of work and
outside of acting. And sometimes those lines can
get a little bit blurred. In order for that not to happen. It's important that we
follow these rules, we follow these points
and we maintain, and we work hard at maintaining an equal
and fair balance.
9. Additional views on rejection: As an actor, rejection can be
difficult and discouraging. However, it's really
important to remember that rejection is just a normal
part of this industry. And it doesn't necessarily
mean that you're not talented or that you can
never ever get a role. In fact, rejection can
be an opportunity for growth and learning
within your craft. Now, here's the most
important things that I want you to remember. Firstly, acknowledge and
process your feelings. It's okay to feel upset and it's okay to be disappointed
from being rejected. But it's important not to let those negative
feelings consume you. Take time to reflect on the experience and try
to find areas where you can improve for your
auditioning skills and on your approach
to the industry, tried to refrain from thinking
about rejection instead of seeing it as a complete
failure and personal setback, view it as an opportunity
to learn and grow. Every audition is a
chance to practice your craft and
develop your skill, even if you don't get the role. Remember, rejection is not a reflection of your
work as an actor. Helpful strategies
to stay positive and focused instead of
dwelling on the past, focus on what's ahead of
you and what you can do to consistently improve
your chances of getting the role next time, set realistic goals for yourself and work on them
every single day. Keep proactive, keep
moving forward, and keep taking action around yourself with
supportive people or community or fellow
actors can be really helpful people that
understand the industry, understand what you're
going through can be a massive Support
backdrop for you. Seek people, seek to be around people that are going
through the same things. They don't even have to
be within the industry, but just people that are gonna
be around you to support you can be a massive,
massive push forward. So in conclusion, rejection can be challenging
for us as actors, but it can also be a
fantastic opportunity to grow and learn by
acknowledging your feelings, reframing your thinking,
staying focused, and moving towards your goals. You can turn that
rejection that you have into a positive
experience and continue to pursue your passion within this industry
as an actor.
10. A closer look into mindset: As an actor, your mindset
is absolutely key, a key component of your success. It can absolutely
influence everything from your audition performance
to your ability to handle rejection and navigate the challenges of the industry. But developing a positive
and resilient mindset is really crucial for achieving your goals and also enjoying a fulfilling
career as an actor. So these are a couple of
things that I want you to memorize when it
comes to mindset. The first step in developing
a positive mindset is to cultivate a sense
of self-awareness. Just take a bit of time to reflect on what
your strengths are, your weaknesses are, and what your values
are as an actor, be honest with yourself about every single area
of improvement, but acknowledge and celebrate those victories and
achievements of success. Doesn't matter how big
or small they are. Do celebrate them because
they are very important. Next, focus on developing
a growth mindset. So important it means embracing those challenges and failures as opportunities for
growth and learning. I'm so big on this. This mindset is so important rather than view
things as setbacks, emphasize the process of improvement rather
than the outcome. Be willing to take those risks. And always, always, always try new things because that's how
you're going to grow. Another important aspect of
mindset is just resilience. This is one of the toughest
industries on the planet. There's no way of
getting around it. Rejection is just
part of this process. It is a tough, tough industry developing that resilience
is so important, you're gonna be better
equipped to handle those setbacks and bounce back from any kind of rejection that you
inevitably will face. Remember, rejection is not a reflection of your
work as an actor, just keep working
towards those goals. Now, number four, mindfulness is also a hugely important
part of a positive mindset. By staying present and
focused in the moment, you can improve
your concentration, reduce stress and anxiety, which is a huge problem for me when I started off acting and improve your overall well-being, incorporating
mindfulness practices. So if meditation,
something that works for you, deep
breathing exercises, or perhaps it's Visualization, whatever works for you, make sure that you keep that up. Okay? Number five, makes
sure that again, you just surrounding
yourself with a community of fellow actors. This is also a really
good opportunity for you to share ideas. I've actually found out some of the best techniques
that I've learned from fellow actors that
I've worked with that has just taught me
something brand new. I never, I never knew before and I was just amazed and I
still use it to this day. You can also attend networking events because there's a lot of networking events
across the world wherever your base for actors, if you're based in the
UK, in Europe and the US, there's a lot of actors meetings and you can kinda
big towns and cities because it's important
to network with fellow actors and build your
network within the industry. So as I've said, guys, those are some of
the things that you really need to be taking an intensive look at when
it comes to your mindset. Because mindset is, I
would probably say, one of the most
underrated things that we often forget as actors. And it's actually,
and it really should be one of the most
important things. If you want to achieve
your goals as an actor.
11. A closer look inside the industry: As an actor, it's really important for us
to understand that the entertainment industry is really not just about talent, but it's also about business. Because to succeed as an actor, you really need to
navigate the complex than practically ever-changing
landscape of our industry. Here are some tips I'm
going to share with you to help you understand and try and navigate around the other side
of this business, which of course is acting. So the first thing
that we need to look at is just educating
ourselves with the industry. So we need to learn about the different types of
acting jobs that are available because it's
such a wide spectrum here we've got theatre, film, television, and of
course, commercials as well. There's also various other roles and responsibilities that we have as actors depending on the type of roles
that we're in. There's also agents, managers, casting directors,
and producers, which all have pivotal
roles in the industry. It's really important that
you familiarize yourself with these jobs in the industry
as well for your future. Now, the other thing
that we need to be mindful of is attending events. We've mentioned it previously and a lot of the other topics, networking events, are
really important for us to develop our
knowledge of the industry. There's also many organizations
that you can join and be a part of depending on
where you are in the world. I know here in the UK we've
got a number of variety of different organizations
that people can join if you're act
as we've got spotlight, we've got a number
of other platforms. But then we also need to be
mindful of our own brand. Our own brand. Have we got our own website? On our website, Do we
have our own show, real or headshots information, our Bio, our achievements, and what about our
social platforms? Are we engaging on
those platforms? Have we got a strong, solid foundational base
on those platforms? Our branding clear
on those platforms are really important topics
for modern day actors. Now, the next thing about the industry is finding
representation, because on the business
side of things, you're going to want somebody to represent you in the
industry when it comes to negotiating contracts, finding job opportunities, researching potential
opportunities, those are all going
to be done with the assistance of
your agent because your agent is a
representative of you. Those are the people
that are going to have those difficult conversations
with casting directors, with producers regarding
finance and all other kinds of intricate details that
they will sort out for you. So the industry is always changing and it's
really important to stay up-to-date on industry
news and trends because no things that ever
the same for too long, okay? Because this is a
fast moving industry and you also want to be
making sure that you're aligned with industry
current trends and also networking with people, as I've mentioned before. But in conclusion, the
business side of acting really does require some
education on your part, some additional
research, networking, marketing representation,
branding, adaptability, all the things I've
mentioned above. By taking the time to understand the industry and
develop your own plan, develop your own brand. You're going to
increase your chances of success in this industry. It's not just about
focusing on your craft and understanding the actual
craft in itself of acting. You need to be knowledgeable on the business aspects as well. Because ultimately it's just as important if you
want to stay busy, if you want to stay in work, if you want to stay consistent, you're going to need
to know about what's happening and who the
right people are. I hope this was
helpful for you guys. It's not something that
too many people look at in regards to courses because a lot of it is to
do with technique, of course, but I just
felt that it's really important to highlight the
business side of things. Because let's face it, this is a business. It is about making money. It is about profiting for
everybody that's involved. In order to do that, we need to make sure
that we're up to date and we know what
everybody's role is, and we are familiar with the business aspects
of the industry.
