1. Intro til audrey maleri med engelsk tale: Hi there, My name is millimeter. I'm a Danish artist, does 2009. I've been teaching art in my own art school here in Denmark. I have had or a 1000 heavy students who are taught to create their own amazing paintings. Personal paintings, idle Paintings, paintings giving us gifts to family and friends. Possibilities are endless. In this course, I'll teach you how to make this amazing painting of Audrey Hepburn. Are you one of those who dream of creating your own unique art? Would you like to learn how to make this painting? Then you should take a look at this course. I can teach you how to paint this, even if you may never have painted before, or even if you haven't been successful at this course is for everybody. All that it takes us that you feel like learning new techniques and that you have an IT project on old-fashioned overhead than you need a canvas, black and white paint, a brush, a felt tip pen. I use a Posca pen with acrylic paint on it. And finally, but not least, a piece of cardboard. That's it. Then you're already in the process of painting this beautiful Audrey Hepburn painting, or maybe another person of your choice. I'll show you from start to finish, what to how to do it. If you just follow my few steps, then you can have a great painting for your home. And just a few hours in this course, I also tell you how you can make your paintings more personal with personal pictures. 2. Let's get startet. Building the back ground: Hi there. Welcome to this first video in this painting course. I will not teach you how to paint this amazing painting with Audrey Hepburn. I hope you get a super nice painting and that you will enjoy the process as much as I did. I look forward to teaching you a lot of different techniques, as well as I look forward to seeing all of your amazing projects. Let's get started. Okay, so the first thing we need to do is to mark off two areas, one for our pattern and one for our background. If you do not want a white background behind your squares or the person you may choose, then you can start by giving you an entire canvas, a base color. I could have chosen to paint it all black and then lay my gray squares on top. Then however, I should have spent more time covering the color. Okay, let's get started by putting on our tape and separating our two areas. When I put on my tape and make sure to cut it with MRSA so that I get very sharp corners. When the corners meet, again, a very nice straight edge all the way around. That technique I teach you here is incredibly simple. This means that you can also use it with children and young people and people who may be motorically challenged. The technique is so easy and yet incredibly expressive. And you really have many opportunities to create a fantastic paintings with it. Thinking your own colors and motives. Although here I give you the motive in the course that you can practice with. Think out of the box and make it your own personal paintings. You have a lot of opportunities. When you put on your tape, make sure that it's properly down and grab your Canvas. That way the paint won't run on your tape like that. This is the last piece of tape, and now we have our two areas and we're ready to move on. So I will see you in the next video where we will make our squares.
3. Continue building background: Okay, Then let's carry on. Now I cut this square out of cardboard and I'm now ready to draw up the squares. I'm using a Posca pen. You can use any pen with acrylic paint in it. As I move along a twist and turn my square a little bit so that it won't be on a straight line. It would add more life to the background. When I start drawing my squares, I always lay them over the edge. It makes it not look like it all hangs and float freely. Then just fill out the whole area with your squares. Remember to tip them a little bit along the way. The reason I use a marker with acrylic paint is that it can be painted over again. If you regret your painting, you can not do this with ink that contains alcohol, for example. It will penetrate even paint. As you draw your squares. It's a good idea to draw a straight line along the tape. That way you get a nice straight line to follow afterwards. And now that I've chosen to keep this painting in very simple colors such as black, white, and gray. It makes the most sense to me to draw up my squares for the pennant the same color. That's why I'm using grape him. If my painting was red and orange, I would use a red or an orange pen. Or if it was yellow and green, I would use yellow and green colors, mix it the weight, Suzhou. Now we only need to draw squares up in the whole marked area far as possible. Make sure you keep a straight line when you lie the next line on top of the other one, keep your squares on top of each other, but still with a slight twist. Now as I've drawn here, I just want to tell you that you have many other options. You don't need to draw squares. You could also make circles with a glass. Maybe you could paint the outside of the circles, or you could paint the inside of the circles. You could cut out different triangles and paper and draft and then make stripes with masking tape. Or maybe you could use a stencil with the floor peasant. The possibilities are endless. The square is just to show you how much effect you can create with a simple piece of cardboard. I'm often asked if I paint over the age of my canvases. I actually do not. But I could do it in this case, it would give a supercool effect on the edge. So move u square over the edge if you feel like it. Now, just draw the rest of the squares. Remember to tip it a little bit so that you get life in the background. It will give a little bit of movement in your finished painting. See you in the next video where I will start painting the squares here makes silly mistakes that you can definitely learn from. 4. Mixing the color: Hi there and welcome back. I am now done with all my squares. Remember when you reach the bottom of your painting to draw all the way over the edge for a nice finish. Now I'm going to paint my squares in a gray tone and the top is going to be black. I'm just going to leave the tape on for now while I paint the gray colors. Now I'm mixing a gray color out of titanium white and some black ink. You can also just use a black acrylic paint. It really doesn't matter. If you want the same color on all of your squares. Be sure to mix enough paint and didn't mix enough. And therefore, I had to turn it with some more titanium white to get the paint to reach all the way. That meant that my background became two colors. Not that it matters, but be careful not to make the same mistake if you want a single color. When you're mixing your colors, make sure you always get them mixed properly. Then maybe small lumps of black color hidden in the paint and it will give streets when you start painting. I also mix a little water into the paint so that it's easier to paint with. Be careful not to get too much water in because then you're paid will lose its opacity. Okay, let's get started to make the job a little easier for yourself. It's a very good idea to use a flat brush with a straight edge rather than a round one. The flat side, we'll do some of the work for you when you're painting along the sides of all of your squares. So just carry on Danielson, paint the rest of your squares. In the next video, I will show you how I mix more paint as I ran out of the color. Luckily, the damage was not so great as it look kind of cool with two different colors. So I will see you in the next video.
5. Runing out of mixed color - what to do?: As you can see, I'm running out of the cola atoned for my painting, a classic mistake when your tone, your own colors. But nothing is so bad that it's not good for something else. Do not despair of making the same mistake. I just tend to slightly lighter color by getting more titanium white and then my background became to color. If you want to completely avoid that kind of thing happening, use only the ready mix colors. You bind your hobbies door. I only mix in a little bit of the titanium white because a little bit we'll go a very long way. Remember to also put in a little bit of water to your paint as it will make it stretch a little bit longer without compromising your coverage. Also, remember to mix your paint really well so you don't get any streaks when you start painting again. Then just paint the rest of your squares exactly as you think they should be. Remember, they can be painted in exactly the colors you want. Maybe they can all get their own color, or each row of squares could get a darker and darker tone, or maybe a brighter and brighter tone. Or you could count all your squares and divide it by, for example, six colors, which you then tone lighter and lighter with your white, and then paint all the squares, one in each color and one in each turn thereafter. It's up to you and your imagination. I'm just giving you the ideas and I'm looking forward to seeing your projects. Now just carry on until you're completely done and you have painted all of your squares. See you in the next video.
6. Getting ready for contrast color: Welcome back. Now all my squares are done. They could well have been painted one more time, so they have been completely covered. But I'm sure you understand the idea of the painting anyway. So now take off the tape. I can see that the paint has run a little bit under my tape, but it doesn't matter because I will trim it with the black paint that I am going to paint the top with. Oops, I forgot one area. In fact, I forgot to. So now I'm challenged as I do not have the exact tone I painted with in the beginning. So now I have to crop a little into the gray squares with the black paint. Now I want to paint the top leg. Afterwards. We'll paint the face or a person. I haven't decided that yet. So since I'm painting black here, this person comes up here and then I thought that it could not be done as it would be black on black. But you can easily do that because you can just draw it up afterwards for the white posca pen. Then it will separate your motif from your background. Also draw some text in the background. So it will be a super-simple painting, but supercool. Now I put on my tech to group the black area. The tape will give me a really nice edge, again, to get some nice corners. It's a very good idea to cut the tape with decisions. That way, the two corners that meet each other will become super sharp and you will have a very nice edge. Now you also have the option to correct any errors. As you know, I was missing some areas and I'm just covering them up now. But if you have a slightly blurred edge, you can also cover it for now by trimming the AKI away. Now I just continue with the tape and make sure to get it press down firmly so that my paint cannot run under my tape so that my blog it becomes completely sharp. Make sure your masking tape is relatively new. Old tapes break when you turn them off and they leave greasy traces. It's also important that you pull up your tape again as soon as you're done. Afterwards, let it sit for a while, but then it melts into the paint and it's impossible to remove it. Just take it off as soon as you're done. I have found my black acrylic paint. You can use any black acrylic paint as long as it covers. I've chosen to paint with the roller here, something I quicker regretted as it did not cover and the paint was bubbling. Therefore, I quickly switched to using a large fiber brush. Once you tape gets wet from the paint, it will start to lift. And therefore, we prefer to have the paint cover in the first code as far as possible. As you can see here, a paint the entire edge in a hurry as the tape begins to lift off. Once you start to lift off, no longer benefit from it. And then it just needs to get off again as soon as possible. But we will have a nice and sharp edge if we do it in a hurry. When you take off the tape, first of all, remember to pull slowly. Otherwise it may make some small streaks on your Edge. Always pull it over the black color and you will get the sharpest and the cleanest edge. Just like that. Then I just have to paint the rest of the black. You can always give it a second coat of paint if you have areas that's not completely covered, That's it. I'll see you in the next video where I choose my motif.
7. Finishing touch of the back ground: Welcome back. Now my painting looks like this. It may seem like a very sharp edge up here at the top. One is so bright at the bottom, it may seem like a very sharp contrast and effect it is. I could also have painted a little darker here and lighter here. It could have been light green, dark green, and so on. The possibilities are endless and it's entirely up to you to paint in your columns so that your painting will be as you prefer it. I'm not worried about either the contrast or the dark colors, because when I paint up by motif, I will paint a white color underneath to make it calmer for the eye to look at. I'll show you that later. It all gets a little brighter and lighter. I'll have to figure out what motive or want to paint on my painting, then we need the projector. So I will show you in the next video how I do that.
8. The funny part- getting our motif on.: Now we've gotten to the funny part, getting our motive on. I found this amazing image of water hipbone that I would like to use. It fits well in the colors and I think it's a beautiful stencil. You can find any picture online knew like to use. And you can edit your own pictures at paint exactly the person you want to paint. Maybe your kids, maybe your husband and you, when you got married or maybe an idle, you have, the possibilities are endless. I can teach you to edit your own pictures. Keep an eye out on my upcoming teaching field here at skills here. Here I'm using an old-fashioned overhead as I find it the easiest to work with. You can also use an IT projector than just flip and Zoom until you find out where you want your subject to be on your Canvas. It's super-easy with an IT project. And today you can buy and one for less than $100. You can use it to make all the paintings I can teach you. And with an IT project, you have the freedom to choose whatever you'd like to paint and you can create a lot of beautiful artworks. Also an IT project or it does not take over a lot of space. The old-fashioned overhead takes up a little more space. And you will also need to buy these plastic sheets that you can print on. And they can be a little bit expensive. So for a onetime amount, you can buy these IT projector and you can use that. It's a matter of opinion. So I'm like one, some like the other. Also a little tip for you when you use your overhead projector, it might have a little bit of vibration to it so your picture might float around. So given a little bit of tape in the corner, that way it will move nowhere as you draw along the lines. So let's get started. Now I have decided where I want to place orders on my canvas. But as you can see, she floats a little bit with the background and she disappears little. To get her more in the center, we need to clean up the background behind her. She's our focus and she's our story. So she should be the most obvious when looking at the painting. Therefore, I will draw a line all the way around her so that I can paint with the white paint so we can make a pop a little bit more. Now just draw the rest of your motive. And when we're done with that, we'll paint the wide. I will show you that in the next video. See you then.
9. Cleaning up the background: As you can see, I already painted the first layer with my titanium white paint, a total of three coat so that it covers completely at rather paint through thin layers than true thick and lumpy ones. The expression I fly for here is the printed look. I want people to be in doubt when they look at my painting, in doubt of whether it is painted or printed. And if you paint into thick layers, you can see your brushstrokes. If you are impatient as I am, then you can take a hair dryer and you can dry it so that you can move on quickly. Make sure not to have too much heat on it because then your paint might crack if the layers are toothache. So keep a good distance when you dry it. Make sure it's really dry before painting the next code. Otherwise you make it ugly lumps in the paint where it's not completely dry. Also remember, there's a big difference in paints. Maybe you use a studio quality, may be used hobby quality, maybe you use a professional paint. I don't know. But maybe you need to paint two layers. Maybe you need to paint three layers. I would say though if you need to pay more than three layers, I would definitely get a better paint. You can also use a gesso if you have one for coverage of the first two layers, and then you can paint with your titanium white in the last layer.
10. Drawing the motif: As you can see here, I'm struggling to get my picture to fit again. That's because I moved my overhead projector while working on another painting. So don't move it, leave it as it is. You can take your canvas to the table if you are, if you like to sit on a chair while you paint the white one, then you can easily find the same spot again. However, if you move your overhead projector forwards and backwards because you're working on another painting, it might be almost impossible to find the exact same place again, so better leave your Canvas standing while you are painting your white layers. That way you won't mess it up. Now I'm gonna draw order, and for that I just use my black Posca pen. This is so easy. Require much explanation. Just draw the lines as you see them. Always be very careful around the nose, the ears, and the mouth. When you're painting portraits this way, as it is the shadows the computer has pulled out of your image that shows the personality. It's very important that you do not draw from your own ideas when you draw the personal features. Because then you can easily end up with a result that does not look like the person you want to make a portrait of. Follow the lines exactly. The rest of the painting does not matter as much, only the personal features. If you should draw a little bit off the line or something else, maybe a little bit of a mistake. It does not matter. Don't cry myself to sleep over that at night. Nobody knows it, but u is not important. The, the personal features. And a little tip for you. If you're not using this picture for your project, or maybe you'll find one online you like to paint. If your picture is very pixels, like it has these little squares, don't draw the squares. You need to round them off so that you have a nice smooth line or else it would be very difficult for you to paint it and it will not look very good in the end, so smoothen out the lines. Also another tip for you, if you are right-handed, it might be a good idea for you to stand on the right side. And if you're left-handed, you might stand on the left side. That way you won't cast a shadow when the light hits you. And then you can see all the places you need to draw.
11. Audrey comes to live...: Welcome back. Now we need to paint Audrey. For that I've chosen to use an ink and acrylic ink, because in the first layer, it's relatively expensive solution and absolutely not necessary. You can easily paint with a completely ordinary black acrylic paint. You can also use an opaque fluid paint. They are super easy to work with as they flow easily into the structure of your Canvas. No matter what paint you might choose, just make sure that you have full coverage. You don't want to be painting your motive three or four times. So I would suggest you buy a good paint and then you just need to paint it one time. Now you might think, doesn't she just painted with the Posca pen, the sharpie or whatever paints you have in USA and the world. I don't do that because first of all, it won't cover very nicely. It won't look very good. And secondly, it would be very expensive. Remember we have a lot of area to cover and that little pen that won't get too far. Another tip for you is when the projector is still on and you can see your motive. Put little marks on where you need to paint the black one. That way when you are sitting with it, it won't be difficult to see exactly what parts you need to paint on, what part you don't need to paint. That will be a very nice guideline for you because when you have your nose, deepen it and you sit right in front of it, it is very hard to see all the separate parts. So make sure that when the projector is still active, Newmark off the areas that needs to be painted. I'll just carry on and paint all your black. And don't worry, when you read the hair, just paint the black because you will be able to see a difference between the ink and the black paint in the background. And later on we take a white posca pen. And then we, then we draw an edge around the hair so that the hair stands out from the background.
12. Seperate Audrey from the background: So far so good. Now I've finished painting all the black and my painting looks like this. Now we need to have Audrey separated from the background, so she comes back and focus route. Now her hairline is completely gone because it's black and black. Therefore, I draw a thin line, but the white posca pen, the pen was too thin, so I just choose this one. It has a slightly bigger chip. Now, I'll just draw the rest. When I worked down in the light area at row with the black pen. And when I work in the dark area, I used the white pen. That way Audrey really stands out from the background. She now becomes our main focus and she is the character of the painting.
13. Audrey quote: I would like to have an opera quote in my painting. And therefore I printed out this text. Elegance is the only beauty that never fates. I repeated the text again and again, and I made a very short distance between the words so they're very close. You don't need to do that. You can do it the way you like. I just like to have these big gaps in the background. When I place my text in the background, I always make sure that it's over the edge so that it does not look like that. The text is like floating in the free air. This will give you a nice and more cohesive picture in the end. Now you need to decide how big or how small you want. Your quote. I zoom in and zoom out. And I tried to work with that. I can see what I think works the best for me. Whether it should be straight over the it should ChIP slightly at an angle and decided to tip it a little bit as I think it gave some extra life to the painting. It actually gave it a little bit of movement. So when you have decided where you want to place it and when you're satisfied with that, then you take your passcode and you draw the lines around the lyrics. I will show you that in the next video.
14. The final finish: I like it the way it is now. That's why I will grow up with white posca pen. I could have chosen a green one or a pink one or blue one just to spice it up a little bit and make it a little naughtier. But I chose to black and the white and the gray tone from the beginning. So I'm going to stick with that. But if you'd like to play with it, please feel free to use any color of your choice. I'm quite sure that it will be very nice if you choose another color, it will really stand out. Now, just carry your pen as good as you can. If you make a small mistake along the way, you can always correct it with the black paint afterwards. So you do not have to worry if the pen slips a little bit away from you. This part can be a little bit challenging, but just take your time and you will get the best result. And remember, it's a hand painted painting. So there's room for small mistakes along the way. Remember, when you read the hairline, you start drawing there so that it will look like the lyrics is behind her, not in front of her.
