About This Class
Inks can really be as simple as a single pigment and a liquid combined. Making your own art materials really provides the opportunity to be creative even before you start making your artwork! 'A splash of colour: A simple guide to make your own: inks!' is a fun and interesting class where we explore the basics of ink making and some very simple guides/projects to making your own inks.
Please note these inks will not be colourfast unless you add an additional stabilizing medium.
Make your own: Natural Inks!
3 Simple and easy recipes! Almost ridiculously simple and fun ways to make ink!
These inks may be used as ink for writing or as watercolour for painting.
In this short class you'll learn a little of the history of ink, and how to make inks from materials you likely have in your kitchen at home.
These inks are very simple and straightforward, water based/colour, to make with minimal ingredients. Some of them take only 5 minutes to make!
Nowadays inks tend to be made from oil derivatives, and are available in a huge range of colours, although there are some made in traditional ways.
However we can make our own ink from natural ingredients.
Its a fun project and a great way to start making your own art materials!
Enjoy the class!

Meet Your Teacher
I live in the South West of England where the mild but often wet climate is ideal for foraging wild plants.
I've been interested in wild plants and herbs for years. Working with plants both professionally and for pleasure!
I think in the times we live in the wild plants hold a valuable role.
I also do creative work, and like to photograph and draw/paint wild plants.
I am also exploring utilising wild plants and pigments to make art materials.
I run the website and blog at www.altliving.org which includes posts, articles and my book links.
