1. 1 Introduction: Hello everyone and welcome to this tutorial. You struggled trying to draw characters, faces in different perspectives. If you want to get better drawing your own characters from various angles, then this is the tutorial to get you started. In this tutorial, we will start by understanding perspective using basic shapes before moving on to construct face. I will be teaching you how to draw a face from three-quarters insight profiles for both male and female characters. This tutorial will be helpful for beginner and intermediate artists. I recommend that you have a basic understanding of drawing a simple face. Before starting this tutorial. There's a tutorial link below that you can refer to. You can use both traditional and digital mediums for this exercise. I will be drawing digitally using Clip Studio Paint. My resources will also be useful as you go along this tutorial, you can download them in the link below. Improvement comes with practice. I encourage you to practice drawing often and putting what you have learned into practice soon enough, you will be able to easily draw pieces from various profiles. I hope this tutorial will be useful for your art journey. I would love to see your final drawings. So do post them in the discussion section. 2. 2 Class Project: For our class project, I would like you to work on drawing a character's face in two different perspectives other than the frontal view. For more advanced artists, you can try adding on the hair as well. They don't need to be punished. Drawings, getting the overall structure and angles rights are more important. In the discussion section, you can post your drawings and your questions and I will answer them. You can also let me know the areas where I could improve to help you learn better or what you would like to see next. Most importantly, enjoy the process, have fun and experiment 3. 3 Pen Pressurre: When you first download your drawing software, you may need to set up your pen prejudice settings. It is really important that you ensure that you are drawing with pen pressure. When I first started drawing, I had no idea. I was drawing with a pen pressure, which made it extremely difficult and frustrating to draw. What is pen pressure? It is a setting that allows you to very heavy, light, thick, and thin strokes, allowing you to create beautiful and interesting linework. It is usually set up by default in a drawing software. Here I will show you how to adjust your pen pressure settings. Since I am using Clip Studio, I will demonstrate with this software. However, with any other digital drawing software, there should also be a similar temperature settings setup. Go-to fall. In pen pressure settings. It will open up a dialogue box. Now, draw continuous stroke on your tablet as how you would normally draw while varying your line weight with heavy and light pressure. The graph will appear to vary one when you finish drawing like so. The more variation, the better. Once you are satisfied. Click Check adjusted settings. Click Done. If you're not satisfied, you can continue to draw another continuous stroke with more variation in line weight depending on your preference. And that's all. Now, you should be able to draw with pen pressure. However, if you find that this is still not working, you may want to restart your software or reconnect your tablet driver 4. 4 Understanding Perspective Using Basic Shapes: To be able to construct objects from various angles and points of view, we need to have a basic understanding of perspective and space. This is a one-point perspective grid shown on screen. Means that there is only one vanishing point, which is the dark circle that you see in the middle. You can download this results in my link. I'm going to construct a cube in the middle of the perspective grid. This will show the cube from the front view. Draw the cube, one of the horizontal lines of the grid. This is how it looks like from the front view. Next, I will draw a cube in a three-quarters perspective, fixing the left. On the same line. Draw square exactly the same as the first. Except because of the angle, you'll be able to see the side plane of the cube. The side plane polarized light diagonal lines of the grid. Now, I'll also draw another cute on the right side. This is exactly the same as the left. Just an acute is now facing the right. As you can see, the cubes are all on the same plane, on the same horizontal line, and all of the same sizes. You can draw the cube in various perspectives anywhere on the perspective grid. You simply have to follow the green lines when constructing the q i different modality perspective. From an adult perspective, the grid guide you on how to angle the object accurately. I will show you what the cubes would look like if they were nearer to the front. As objects move near to you, they will look bigger. This cube will be slightly bigger than the ones at the back. I will follow the diagonal grid lines when drawing the planes of the cube. Because the cube is now in front, you will be able to see some parts of the top plane of the cube. You can extend grid lines to draw the plane more accurately. Links are drawn on acute in the middle. And we're now looking at the cube from the top-down perspective. As you can see, I have drawn the cube on the same perspective as the middle Q. You'll be able to see a bit of the top plane of the cube due to this perspective. Lastly, I will draw another cube on the right. Again, this is similar to the cube on the left, just that it now faces the right, the left plane of the cube, and the top plane of the cube. Kim seen from this angle. I'm going to show you another example of drawing a pyramid with a square base, bottom, and far planes. This is how the permanent will look like from the front view. When the permits and the left, him in the pyramid is on the right. The square base follows the lines of the perspective grid. In the site planes of the permit can be seen from the angle Hello, draw another pyramid and urine to the front position on the left. As you can see, the perspective grid helps to guide the angle of the square base. This is how the premium will look like when it's in the middle. From a top-down perspective. You can actually see a bit of both sides of the plane. Finally, the permanent when it faces the right, will look similar to the one on the left. You can even try something more complicated using the same principles by using a combination of different basic shapes. As long as you follow the perspective grid and its angles, the objects drawn will look accurate and proportional. Here I'm going to combine a cuboid with acute. First draw the cuboid, and then draw the cube on top of the keyboard. I'm going to use another color to draw the cube for differentiation. The same principles of perspective will apply to the cuboid, much like how we drill the cube earlier. Objects near to the front, we'll look bigger. Objects at the back will look smaller, even though they are of the same size. If you're using Procreate, it comes with the perspective grid, which is very useful. You can easily set up perspective. Make sure the planes of the objects follow the perspective diagonal lines. This will ensure that the objects drawn will look correct in proportional. In the next section, we will apply these principles when we draw a face 5. 5 Draw a Head Using Basic Shapes (Male): Next, we will use a cube as a guide to construct the heat and its features. You can use the Q and a sphere as a guide to join a face from various angles. You can draw a square and circle easily using the shortcut, you can clip Studio for the quicker to, to construct shapes quickly. You can hold onto the Shift key when you construct the shape to lock its dimensions. This will ensure that you will get a perfect circle and square. I will construct a sphere inside the cube, which is the head of the character Joe cross in the middle of a circle. Now, I will draw the same for the heat of the character on the left. As we practiced earlier. Draw the side plane of the cube. This will be visible. Further diagonal lines of the Perspective Grid menu draw the side plane of the cube. The vertical and horizontal lines should curve outwards as they follow the shape of the sphere. The lines mark where you want the facial features to be. Now, I'm doing the same for the heat on the right side. Now, let's draw the facial features of the face facing the front yard, a cheeks jaw line. And yes, at the site, the horizontal line marks where the eyebrows will be. Draw the eyebrows, followed by the ice below the eyebrows. The intersection where the circle meets the square is where the nose will be positioned. Finally, draw the ellipse using two lungs. I'm not going to draw the hair at this stage. You will now met the features to the hit on the left and the right. The red dotted lines mark where the facial features should be met. If the Haidt's are all in the same plane. I'm mocking the brow line, the nose line, and the chin line. From the three-quarters view, the heap profile will look like a peach. The chin connects to the jaw line and the yellow. You can always rotate the canvas to make sure that the face looks proportional and adjust your drawing accordingly. Using the dotted lines as a guide to draw the eyebrows on their first rate dotted line Mark the position of the nose, which is at the intersection of the sphere and a cube. I'm drawing another dotted line to make out whether ice should be pleased. When drawing the eyes from the three-quarters view. The ion, the leftmost of the screen, will look slightly shorter in width compared to the right or duty the ankle. Now, draw a slight curve for the nodes connecting to the point we made earlier. Finally, draw two lines for the lips, which is directly below the notes. I'm making some adjustments to the gin so it is a bit sharper. They should always be a slight gap between the eyebrow and the year. You can enlarge the heat, which is the spheres like lead to show the full heat. And then draw the neck that stats from the year connecting downwards. Now I'm just quickly drawing the same for the site profile on the right. You may follow along for practice. Remember that you can always rotate your canvas to check if the drawing looks accurate. 6. 6 Draw a Head Using Basic Shapes (Female): Now I will demonstrate drawing a female face using the same concepts so you can see the differences between a female face and a male face. So let's do the same thing. Drag cute in a circle with an acute. For female faces. That chicks tend to be rounded with a sharp chain tapering downwards. I'm drawing the vertical line, the horizontal line intersecting the circle. Yeah, I'm also mapping the line for the eyes. Eyebrows for females tend to be more rounded and their eyes are also more rounded and bigger. If a thicker lash line and with more obvious eyelashes. Females, then noses are also more rounded. Instead of being straight and sharp. The lips can also be drawn smaller. Now I will map the features to the three-quarters left view. Draw can purchase a sharper gene and a more rounded jaw line for girls. Now I'm drawing the cuffed eyebrows. From this angle. The left side of the face is foreshortened. And you will see that the left, I looked shorter compared to the right eye. This is the middle line which marks the placement of the facial features. Since the eyes are looking towards the left due to perspective, the eyelashes, I seem to also curve towards the left from this angle. Draw the curve of the nose. In small leaves. Here I'm adjusting the chin slightly so it looks sharper. And there's a gap between the lips and chin, we will meet a character look better. Lastly, I draw the connecting the year to the jaw line. Only one of the yes can be seen from this angle. You can practice and apply the same principles for drawing the profile on them, right? In this section, you can follow along as I completely dry 7. 7 Draw the Side Profile: Next, I will show you how to draw the heat from the site profile, which is very useful when developing your own characters. I will go through the features of the face for us to compare how it looks like from the front versus the site. This is how an eye would look like from the front view. From the side view. I will look like this. The lids are curved. In the pupil tends to be rounded outwards. The bottom lash line will also curve upwards to meet the top lash line. If you want to eyelashes to the ice, the eyelashes from the side view will curve outwards. From the side view. The nose was that near the eye. And it will curve outwards, forming something like a triangle shape. For the lips, they're made up of two rounded curves into lines. The lower curve indicates the bottom of the chin will start below the bottom lip. And your curves are protrudes outwards before connecting to the jaw line. It is up to individual preference. E.g. you may want to shop at chin. In that case, you can draw the chin protruding outward small. Let's use the perspective grid and doesn't lines again to draw the site profile. The SipProfile will face the left side, starting from the forehead. The eyebrow, onto the first red dotted line is we practiced the features earlier. Iran will look something like this. Now, draw the eye insight viewed directly below the eyebrow. Ms. more practice, you'll get more familiar drawing the features of a face without looking at a reference. Since I'm drawing a male character, the nose bridge is sharper for males. Hence, how adroit protruding out, what's the nose length should end somewhere on that line. Yeah, I'm mapping the red dotted line for the chin. Draw two curves for the lips below the nose. And Josh top chin protruding outlets The Yoshi's start from the first red dotted line and it will connect to the jaw line. Here the yellow looks a little too close to the face. So I shifted it further away using the selection pen, shortcut M on the Clip Studio Paint. Now I'm drawing the jaw line and connecting it to the year. Once again, make sure that there's a gap between the eyebrow and the year. Drawing it too close or too far, we'll make the character look a little odd. Now I'm drawing the neck that connects from the back of the skull in another line starting from somewhere near the cheating. I had a smile to the lips. Like so. Now I will show you how to draw the site profile in the opposite direction from the heap profile on the right. Please follow along at your own pace. Happy drawing. Flip the Canvas to check that the drawing is not lopsided. I adjusted my drawing here a little with the selection area too. As I found my drawing slanting to the right 8. 8 Drawing Heads Using Template: I've prepared a template for a number of different heat profiles that you can practice drawing. You can use this as a resource when you want to construct a face. I'm going to show you how to do so. Start a new canvas of your desired size to draw a four or a three. Both works. Open the template image up on your drawing software and reduce the layer opacity to 30%. Now create a new layer on top of the template. I named this the practice layer. Now you can zoom in onto the hip profile that you want to draw. The vertical and the horizontal lines serve as guidelines for drawing the facial features. I'm going to sketch it out so it's a little bit clearer. Like to start by drawing the eyebrows on the horizontal line. Then draw the eyes directly below the eyebrows. Sure again, that there's a gap between the eyebrows and the nose is a slight curve. In the template, the position of the nose has already been met. The lips are then two lines below the yes. You can then trace out the fees, the chin, the jaw line, and connect it to the yes. Now you can hide the template layer and you will see a finished sketch. Your more advanced in drawing, you can even add on here for your character from this perspective. It may be a little challenging duty angle. I'm going to quickly drop the hair to complete the character. I usually like to make the chin sharper and more tapered for my characters. Some adjusting the face. Because the template is just a guide. You can adjust your character's face however you wish. It is very useful and a quick way to see the hits from various angles. Now I'm going to show you how you can use the template to draw a site profile easily with what we learned earlier. I'm going to zoom in on the heap profile facing the left. Once again, the lines for the eyes have been met Size that I'm starting from the eyebrows, enjoying it on the eyebrow line. Then I'm drawing the site view of the eye. Below the eyebrow. Follow the phase shift in the template and outline the forehead, the nose, the lips, the gin, and the jaw line. Then you can draw out the year. I'm also drawing the neck. Now I can unhide the template layer to see my sketch. I want to make some adjustments to the character. So I'm going to sharpen some features like the chin. I'm also going to make slight adjustments to the nose. You can stylize the character to your liking. I'm just going to add some hair to complete a look. You can even try to cite profile from another perspective. This is the top-down perspective. I mimic the vertical and horizontal lines for clarity. Similarly, at the horizontal line we're going to draw the eyebrows and the eyes. Do note that the eyes from this angle will be smaller due to the top-down perspective. So you can hardly see much of the eye. The eyes are also facing towards the left. So the left eye will look even smaller than the red outline, the shape of the nose. Enjoyed the lips, which are two curves. The lips follows the horizontal line. I'm going to outline the face shape, the jaw line, and the Yes. I'm also drawing the shoulders and the neck according to the template. You may want to adjust your drawing a little, but I think this looks fine. Now I'm going to draw the hair for this character as well. Notice that you can see more of the top of the nodes due to the top-down perspective. So imagine that you are looking down on the character, and this is what you get. So now I've completed the drawing of the person from the top-down perspective. Another perspective you can try is the bottom-up perspective, which is the hardest, in my opinion. If you follow the principles and you want a challenge, I encourage you to try out this perspective Once again, map out the vertical and horizontal lines. The eyebrows will follow the curve of the horizontal line. So it should always be almost parallel to the horizontal line in all times. The ice below the eyebrows would also follow the curve of the horizontal line. The eye from this angle is also very small and you can't really see much of it. I'm adjusting my drawing of the eyebrows so that they follow the curve more accurately. I also draw it closer to the nose bridge. Follow the curve of the nose bridge on the template. Here I've also added a nostril which will be visible. The next will be directly below the nose. And again, it will curve the same way, it's a horizontal line. The lower lip here is a bit thicker due to the angle from the bottom-up, rather remaining face, the chin, and the jaw line. Joining the chin and jawline from this angle is slightly challenging. As B are not used to seeing faces from this angle. There will be a shadow costs below the chin which I have shaded here. Find the knee completely yes. And draw the remaining hit. I'm also drawing the neck and the shoulders according to the template. Then adding on some hair to complete the loop, I decided to adjust the nose bridge so it looks a bit sharper. I encourage you to use this template as a practice to drawing and understanding hate profiles from different angles. It will really help you as you practice. And you will soon be able to draw without even referring to this template
