1. Intro: Hi everyone. Welcome to my first
Skillshare class, getting started with teetering on super Prof. in this class, we will be looking
into two main things, which is setting up
your profile and also recognizing the expectations
as a freelance do. Personally, I started
freelancing, tutoring, teaching people at chess during my second year of university, it started off as
a site gate him, but after the pandemic happened
where most people were in lockdown and also
the Netflix show us their queen scan bit off. So the influx of people
wanting to learn chess, this video is being recorded. I am currently on
the top patch on super pro for the
chests of sudden Jake, I am also an ambassador. Is the highest rank
profile been super pro, you have to reach a certain
number of reviews and also certain number of hours your students
to get to this level. And also, I have
over 40 students who inquiry lessons with me. I hope with that said, I have enough authority to talk about why or how you can get
involved in super proud. This course is for
anyone who has a skew or is at a certain level
a data subject area. For example, if you
are a student at university learning maths, you, or some sort of an
authority for people who are doing their levels because you have been there, done that. So that's why I think most people can't
be a Theta is more, is more or less if you're
interested or not. The project of these concepts
is for you to follow along and make your
own super pro account. Alright, with that said,
let's dive into it.
2. The profile picture: Okay, so the first
thing we need to do is to set up our
profile picture. I just want you
to know we do not need a fancy camera
for this, alright? But what is important is to
ask yourself what traits, what you'd like to
see in a teacher. Personally, I would like to see my teacher who is approachable, friendly, but also
knowledgeable. So that is how I came
up with this example. So as you can see, the chessboard is shorter
and my chest feature. So this is like my
expertise in this field. Smiling, so it's also
presenting myself as being authentic and also
friendly and approachable, but at the same time also to
watch out for those fakes. Now you can see between these two images
that on this side, this is clearly affects smart and people can tell
the difference between this. Alright, so your task
for this section is to write down the traits you
like to see in your teacher. And also as a friend,
get a tripod, take that picture and I will
see you in the next section.
3. About Lesson : Okay, For this section, we are going to talk
about the lesson section. I will say that this
is one of the more, more important sections
because basically any student who come
and read your profile, they would like to see what
you are able to offer. So this is the part that I think most students would
really focus on if del, I have to choose between
all the different sections. So before going into writing your own debts
and description, I believe there
are two big things you would like to focus on. Number one, the pinpoint
of your students, and number two, what
are the duties? Our offerings? So regarding the pain
points of your students, it's important to see what
IT student really needs. Of course, this depends on the different subject
you're teaching. So for example, a friend of mine who is
teetering physics, he find that a lot of students are driven towards
a specific goal. Or for example, like trying
preparation for elevators and IGCSE lever as
a specific topic. Who is teaching chests? My student likes to
have that brought over overall improvement
on, on chairs. It can be on Piazza, so you can do on Tech Days position, just different plans. If you have a look with
my example over here, I thought that some of the pain points of my
potential students, or they're not sure
how to improve. They are stuck in a
specific rating group. They might not have a
trading plan on what to do. Or maybe they had a bad
experience If another curve. So I said, so maybe they want to find someone
who genuinely cares. So by just rephrasing Deb
into a rhetorical question, I thought that I was able to identify the pinpoints of
my potential students. So the whole idea here is
that we want to understand the specific pinpoints
of our, of our students. The second thing to see
is also what you add the top tutors are doing
in your specific page. Alright, so for example, if
you go to the next section, we can see there are
commonalities in what the top data's put in the about
section, for example, they talk about
their qualification, their ability to
adapt to students, and also extend concept in a way which help
them understand. Alright, so after you
add all of these things, we want to go one step further. We want to add things
to the lessor, which we otherwise
Pro probably do, but we don't recognize that we do them, if
that makes sense. On the chest page, I'm, most students
said that, yeah, they'll find a Dell create a plan and also identify those
strengths and weaknesses. But I noticed that
most chest uterus, they don't say that
they will help review. Student's games, are there
to answer questions. But I'm very sure that all the suitors
will probably do that. Alright, so, but if
you just fire it up into your about section, about less than description, people who see that as like, oh, you're giving them a bit more. And you're highlighting what are the values are able to give, making you stand out
from your competition? For example, what
you can do if we talk about that whole middle
section sort of thing. You can say that you
gave whole book to them, which I believe are
the t-test is due, but again, not really
specifying that. Finally, regarding
the About section, and I want to say there's
no need for this section, but for all the other
sessions to come, please do check your
grandma and proofread. Proofread your writing. Many softwares as well, like Grandma Andy to help check to help check your,
check your writing. A bonus tip here is
that if you want to make your writing
stand out even more, make it a little
bit more readable. Instead of having just
two big long paragraph maybe bullet points to them so that they're easier on your
student's eyes to read. And believe me, appreciate that. In the long run, your
task for this session is to research
other top tutors in your subject and also identify the pain points of
your potential students. And of course, at the end, you write down your
description and I'll see you in the next lesson.
4. About You: Okay, so now we talk about
the About Us section. This is a time where you
are able to showcase a little bit more personality
to your potential students. Here are some
questions which can help you wipe your background. What was your biggest achievement
in your subject area? Why do you enjoy D3? So these are all
questions you can ask yourself so that you are able to create a story of why you, how you get in love indigent. Here is my example. As you can see, I shed a little bit about
my background and what sort of level I am
in my chest courier. I also share why I
got into tutoring, which is to make chess more accessible and
personalized for students. And finally, I also
want to share it with my biggest achievements
in teaching where some of my
students were able to win tournaments and
also locker leaks. Feel free to share as
much or as the SEO. In this section, at the
end of the day after I finished writing
your About Us section, the question you're
gonna ask to I1 this person as my cute
though, he's answer is yes. Probably someone else would
also advise you as the tutor. Okay. That's it. Your tasks for
this section is to write your About You section. And I'll see you
in the next class.
5. Setting your price: Let's talk about
setting up your price. So I'm already that these
vary from people to people and also there are
different circumstances. If you're only thinking of doing this freelance drinks
often as a side gig, the price immediately to the value which
is proportionate. Do it personally, I had the objectives to scale this
and build a customer base. So I started out with a
lower price point, which is, which was more attractive
to my early customers. But then slowly increase the
price as I have more demand. This is something I would
recommend to people who are interested in building
a customer base. However, once again,
if you are not to bother with the
number of students, you can, you can just set up the price as how much you fit. Here's a bonus to make
your first lesson three, I personally do this. Again, help me build trust and rapport with my students
right from the very get-go. This helps me to showcase
my skills are that way without them feeling like
they have something to lose. And also one funny thing is
that super pro allows you to handle the payment
directly with your students. If you don't do
that, your students, you pay a subscription fee
and they're super profit of 15 per cent
commissioned on this. So by letting them
know that you are happy to do things
upside of super Prof. There you also set a
button your pocket, and after that you can arrange
the payment accordingly, a bank transfer or true PayPal. So you'll tell us what
this session is to research the market of four, to understand what's the mean and setting up the price point, which you are happy with. That said, I'll see you
in the next lesson.
6. Reviews and recommendations: So for this section is the
reviews and recommendations. So these are your social proof, the belt coming
through your page. They went to check your profile. They will want to see your reviewers and your
recommendation is using super profile only given by students who went
through your lesson. By recommendations can be
given by our friends, family, so long as you just give a
link and they write down a review or accommodation
for in the beginning, I understand that
it will be very difficult to get a review, especially when you have a very new profile and you
don't have men and deeper, not aware about your page, but this is where
getting recommendations are very important personally. I have friends who help, right? Well, descriptions
about me as a tutor and that really helped me get kickstart getting
my first few days. And also this is novels after every first lesson where
you think it went well. Don't be afraid to ask for
reviews from your students. There are more than
happy to help you. And the line I usually give to all my students is that I'm trying to be
honest student base. You'll be amazing if
they can leave a review, if they find helpful, having debt would be a good way to just snowball when
you get a new student. And if that more people are, are getting, noticing your profile as
you've gotten more and more, as you get more
and more reviews, it's also very easy to
get recommendations on super Prof. just sending
a link to a friend, asking them to write down those recommendation is
really important that you include some sort of
description of how you are like. Your task for this section is to get Trudeau recommendation from your friends or people you trust and fingers
crossed with debt, you get your first
student there. After that. I'll see you in the next video.
7. Expectations: I don't know if you,
if you have completed all the previous task, you have completed your
super pro profile. So for this second part, we are going to talk
about expectations and also having fun
in the process. Okay? So I think I just showed you feel a lot about how
do you get involved. But I wouldn't be doing any
justice if I don't share you, what are the expectations, even the downside of getting involved in online or
freelance tutoring. So the first thing I want to mention about what to expect, this takes a bit of luck. I mentioned in the
intro that I was on the top of the page
and got ambassador, but this didn't
happen overnight. It took three months for me. It took three months for me
to even get my first student. But the pandemic and also the Netflix show just helped
accelerate the process. Recognizing that this
is something outside of my control is important. And the next thing which I just stumbled upon
was also there were, there was this one day
when I was reading my description for the
adult lesson page at all, maybe I can just help
tweak these, right? I'm making tools, a couple of bullet points and
changing and nowhere which I thought might
just might stand out as compared to other
people on my page. And the funny thing was
that when the next week, week after I change, I got train your students. And after every week I got one week after week
for two months. I think. If I had not changed
that description, I probably wouldn't
have that sense of success rate of getting
new students coming in. So that takes up a lot, right? You're not recognizing that, oh, I want to change this and
just experimenting route. I said this the first thing, recognizing that
doing all this thing, getting your first
student or your newest do than it is a method
of a bit of luck. So this is the first
thing you want. I'll say that it's
good to recognize. The second thing I want
to mention over here is intakes of new
students can be seasonal. For example, I mentioned about my physics friend or ratio, we have a little chat and he
says that the time where he has the most number
of students coming, coming for physics
lessons or during the time where it's
closer to the LFSRs, them all the IGCSE
SMs after that is like some one or two
students here and there. But during this period is the time where there's the
most number of students. Maybe it is a time where they want the most help for those, for those key exams. Whereas for chess, it seems
to me that that will improve us tend to come on
and off every month. I'll probably get one or two. But the one where especially
in April and also a January, there is also the
influx of children, like the younger people
wanting to learn chess. And most of them are
because they are preparing for a
port number, right? Right. Alright, before that, in the UK, the UK school chest challenge, which is quite a
big thing for them. And that's why they are looking for a chest cold
right before that. So I think I mentioned
over here is to recognize what is that season for your specific
subject and also maybe tweaking your profiles,
especially about lesson. So that is more
attractive and you're able to provide
that value to them. So what I want to
say here is that you want to be mindful about the different seasons for the
different subject you have. I'm well aware that there
are probably some objects which have more
influx than others. But being mindful about all
this season's will help you recognize what you're
doing right and wrong. For example, it might
be a seasonal time, but you're not getting
as many students in. Maybe it's time to
tweak your lesson about less than pillage and see
how it goes from there. Or maybe you wanna try
changing your profile picture. Alright, change something, keep experimenting and seeing
how it goes from there. I think this is important
ideas or feedback for you to improve your
profile in general, the next thing
which is important is having a certain level of organizational skill when you are in this
freelance tutoring. As you can see, that you are not being
pushed by someone to keep track of everything
like a traditional job. Most of the things you
have to do it by yourself, having a form of a calendar to keep track of all your
lessons and also having a spreadsheet who keep track
of your finances as well as as well as other
students who have, I think these are
very important, especially as you have more and more students
in the future. So being organized is very important to being a
good tutor as well. Of course, I trust that
all of you are good. It is more a more personal one. I personally choose to save the relationship rather
than valuing the money. Even in a situation where
students means glasses, I will personally like give them the benefit
of the doubt, say that it's okay. Just come for the
next one without charging them for
that specific class. Yes. Understand that is
a waste of our time. But I very much more value
the relationship we, we develop over these lessons. Rather than trying to get off the departments from
that one class and making the relationship only
the sour I said is personal. I think it works. I think it works really, really well because
this is what I personally care
about a little more. So see how it goes for you. But right now, I said is
working out very well for me. Yeah, this is one of the things which are important
to bear in mind. And also the expectations
you have to give to your students when you are
performing your task. Okay. Thank you very much. And we've just said, okay, now for the outro.
8. Outro: Okay, So thank you all
for joining this class. That is all from me. And I would like to
wish you all the best in your freelance
tutoring journey. If you have completed the tasks, do feel free to check them
as projects so that all of us can learn from
one another as well. So here's a time I
do a little plug-in. If you are done and they
are not interested in this, you feel free to leave. But if you do decide to stay, I personally, I have my
own personal website. It's been a dot code dot UK. On this website you can
enquire me for tests lessons. And also I write a blog post, which I post every Monday
so you can check it out to know what other
stuff I'm doing as well. If you're anxious, they'll
call up and you're considering getting a
premium membership. Do please do consider using, if anything, helped me buy a cup of coffee, hot chocolate. I like hot chocolate or coffee, whatever I think
I'd like to give a shout out to my
friend Horatio, who was kind enough to share some insights for me in
making these videos. Or if you want to
check out his profile, I have them in the
resources as well. If you know someone who likes, who likes to learn physics, he's a good physics teacher. He helped me draw a levers. Once again, I'd
like to thank you all very much for watching, for joining me in this
Skillshare class. And I wish you all the best. Once again, in your
freelance lettering, journey, Bye bye.
