1. Introduction: Hi. My name is Golan Are I'm a self taught artist, and I truly believe that the best way to learn something is by doing so. I'm very excited to see that you decided to take this class. Please feel free to share progress and ask any questions you have. I'll be here to help you along the way. I'm really excited to see your project. And I hope you have fun. Thank you. In this class, I will show you step by step, how to paint to seashells. You will need what? Color paper, watercolors, appellate or play to mix your colors, brushes, pencil ended razor for sketching and a glass was water. Let's begin. 2. Sketching Blue Seashell: Let's first sketch are blue and white Seashell. I'm going to sketch directly on the watercolor paper. For that, I'm going to first, very lately. Trace the outline of the seashell. Uh uh, - starting in the middle. Let's add the first groups. This Visser Shell has a lot of groups, and starting in the middle will help us distribute them evenly. Do not try to make them perfectly spaced out. While nature is perfect, it's not 100% symmetrical, and having some imperfections will make our shell look more real. Who, uh, in general, I will leave my seashells catched very lately so that the graph I doesn't shows through the pain. But in order for you to see it more clearly on the video, I will trace the sketch was a soft core pencil. But be mindful for your own illustration not to press too hard or use a very soft or graphite pencil because watercolors a very translucent. And if you don't want the pencil shows through, you will need to use either a very light touch or hardcore pencil 3. First Layer Blue Seashell: in order to give the dimension and extra toe are seashell. We will first paint the light wash on each crew. Keep in mind that inner grooves will have more shadow to them. So for them, I will makes yellow joker and capping red and keep it very worried. Consistency was this mixture. I will paint a in a grows first, uh, who now, Using a very water and mix of burnt number and ultra marine blue, I will add the shadows to our inner groups. Imagine the light hitting from the left so the left edge off age growth will drop the shadow. You know, you can see how Shell is already having volume. Now for the top grows. I will mix yellow okra and cab. Me read was a little bit of white and keep it more peachy after covering all shell was the first layer. It's time to start aiding the details 4. Details Blue Seashell: Now let's add the first layer of details. Little first focus on the top Cruise to make turquoise blue I mixed intense blue was lemon yellow, but since it was too intense, I toned it down. Or was our ultra marine, blue and amber mixture Uh uh mixed Ultra marine blue and birds amber and using size to round brush, I'm starting to add up strokes to the top edge of the shell. Now, using the same mixture, I will add a very thin line of tiny strokes to the inner gross. Uh, at this stage, have fun and add as many or as little details as you wish. But keep your strokes in the same direction. It will go ahead your eye when you look at illustration, and we'll give it a more of a uniform. Look, if you look closely to see shell, older marks usually follow one direction. Also, the reason decided to first work on the toe groups and then on the inner ones, was to preserve the dimension effect. It's always easier to break it down into smaller pieces. - Who , uh, you know? Uh huh. No. Yeah. Now let's work on adding detail. Start, you know, grooves 5. More Details Blue Seashell: Now we will add details to inner groups. There are a few things we need to keep in mind. First, the details on the Intergroup should coordinator was the ones on the top, both in size and in color. The only difference we will make to color is way will tone a doubt. And the second important thing. It's curvy lines the opposite direction off the top groups. Even if you didn't uncover them that much when you painted this lines on the top groups but adding even a small reverse graph to the inner lines, we'll make our shall look even most rating. Okay, let's go ahead and add these details. Who, uh, you know. Yeah. Uh huh. Now does we painted all the big details on our C show. I decided to add some Finland's to balance our design notice How occur of these lines on each group? And how would create the dimension? - Yeah , Almost done. The last step is to add more shadows 6. Adding Final Shadows on Blue Seashell: So now we can add more shadow store seashell. For that, I will makes ultra marine blue and Eliza in crimson. They have a very watery purple color. Remember how we added the drop shadows in the beginning? Now we will reinforce down Was this mixture? Uh uh. - We will also add some drop shadow to the seashell as well. To the right edge of it. The shadows of the darkest near the edge. And then they slowly fade away. Uh, were down. It was our first see show. Let's pain our 2nd 1 you know, huh? 7. Sketching Yellow Seashell: As with the first seashell, I will light Lisa, catch the outline, and then trace it again. That was darker pencil. So it better shows on the video. Uh uh, - A So you can see I was unhappy was the crow of the seashell. And I rewarded a few terms. Since I'm using a high quality what color paper I can afford it raising quite a bit. But I still have to be very careful because you're damaged the paper. The water colors will stay in those spots and a little in the illustration. Who thanks. Seashell doesn't have a shine, but instead has a long, wide line in the middle and the yellow color fades. Was each car. We will keep it in mind once we start painting it in the next video. Uh 8. First Layer Yellow Seashell: for the skill of seashell. We will mix lemon, yellow and cabin young, and as I mentioned in the previous video, the collar faints was each curve and you will get painting was more and more water and light yellow. Makes sure the show who , uh, you know, I like to add texture by lifting the water color from the paper with a piece of paper towel . You can pull off a small piece of paper towel and dab. Pull in the direction of the seashell in a few spots. Keep in mind that the edges are always Dockery, and the centers are later since the seashell is curved. - Yeah , I'm going to add light stripes to the inner curve by mixing burnt umber and ultra marine blue and make it very watery and following the curve off the seashell, I will at the stripes on Lee to the bottom two curves of this issue. Okay, I will. First layer is down and we can start adding details 9. Details Yellow Seashell: Now we can start adding details to R C show. First, I want to darken our yellow in a few places and by using cadmium yellow at some darker marks on the outer curve of the seashell. Uh uh. I also added lemon yellow to the bottom match off the outer curve while the white stripe in the middle of decision in his white. It is not the color of the paper. So, using a very watery consistency of lemon yellow, I will pick over this part strike. So I also wanted to be Mocha, he said was the rest of this you show. So by using the slight lemon yellow, I'm making white strokes and grabbing both sides of the big yellow sections off the top curve. Now we can add the purple lines to R C show for that alone makes a resident crimson and ultra marine blue. As for the blue Sea shell, the direction of lines on this yellow one Very important. So I'm following each curve very carefully. In the next video, we will darken our details. Uh, you know? Yeah, 10. More Details Yellow Seashell: in this video, I will be darkening the details and adding more stripes. Dorsey show you will see me varied intensity off the colors, but I'm still using the same ones. Was which we started in the beginning. This is the fun part. So feel free to add all the difference Drives in marking story seashell and make it your own. And in the next video, I will show you how to add shadows. Uh, who, uh, you know, - uh 11. Adding Final Shadows on Yellow Seashell: The last step is to add the shadows. I use the problem mixture, and by adding more water to it, I make it more translucent. Let's imagine the light falls from the left corner. In that case, the shadow will fall from the bottom right edge off the sea show. And this is where we will add it again. The shadow is doctor in your the edge and fades away as you move away from the shell. Uh, - I also decided to add a few more details to the white stripe. Using cadmium yellow, I added a thin and jalonick you both sides of the white stripe. - Who , since our seashell is curved, we also need to add shadows to the curves themselves. I'm adding them to the both outer and in occurs but at an angle and in the right corner, you know, that's it. We have to seashells. And now it's your turn. Please share your progress and ask any questions. I can't wait to see you Illustrations. Thank you so much for taking this class
