About This Class
Half drop repeats look so cool, but can be quite confusing to get the hang of. In this class, i'll show you how to turn a square into a repeat that adds interest and movement to even the simplest design. This class is for A) those who are familiar with creating square repeats, but haven't mastered half drops yet and B) those who have made this type of repeat, but need help streamlining your design process.
All you need is Adobe Photoshop and a square full of colorful icons. Feel free to use a pattern you've designed previously or create a whole new pattern!
Meet Your Teacher
My name is Charnelle Pinkney Barlow and I am the lovely face behind Call Me Chartreuse. Originally from Poughkeepsie, Ny, I am an illustrator and surface designer that loves drawing as much as I love tea...and that's a whole lot of love!
The images I create are made to delight your inner child. These hand drawn whimsical patterns and illustrations are inspired by everyday objects, animals, and food.
I leave it to my artwork to tell my stories and make others smile. Whatever I'm drawing is usually a dead giveaway as to what I'm currently obsessed with (did someone say donuts??).
Thanks for stopping by!

Your challenge, if you so do choose, is to show off your new skills and create a half drop repeat pattern.
Theme (optional): Spring time. This theme can be interpreted in many different ways.
Project: Create a half drop repeat pattern in Photoshop.
Deliverables
- Post your initial pattern square with colored icons
- Fill in the middle of your pattern after expanding the canvas
- Show off your finished repeat!
If you are creating a new pattern: Draw, arrange, and color your icons into a 5" x 5" square. Make sure the icons don't touch the edges of the square.
If you are using a pattern you've created previously: Be sure you have the original square with the icons laid out. The sides should not be in a repeat yet. Another option is to use previously made icons by pulling them into a new square document and re-arranging them for this project.
