Procreate: Creating Repeat Patterns on your iPad

1. Introduction and Overview : Hi. My name Pops. I'm a texture artist. I live in Germany. I work with pattern. I blocked friend and I also look digitally in this class. I would like to show you how to create repeating patterns in the f appropriate. I'm also going to show you how to make a great template on your iPad with the graphics, I will explain how to make a straight repeat pattern. Now that you have your can was prepared, I recommend renaming the grid layer so that you don't get confused, and next you'll need to create a you layer for your pattern and try not to grow on the quickly like Okay, next, you can start creating your pennant. If you are careful, you will see the blue line show up to guide you along with Senator, and you also can kind of feel a selection wanting to snap to certain places. And this will make it easier to get the selection to move to the right and still be perfectly center. That's important. Um, inappropriate. If you move parts off a selection awfully canvas, those will be automatically deleted as soon as you de select. And we're basically using this to delete the part of the layer we no longer need. So moving over all the way so that you basically, um, end up with the left top off your pattern. Next, you will make a second copy off the origin and lay off the simple again, and we will move that over to the right. I'm sorry. We're going to move that over to the left like so. And now you can see that the corner marks, they don't perfectly align. Sometimes they almost do. But I still kind of a nice point of orientation to see if everything it's where it should be. Okay, so, um, no, we will merge those two layers. We just moved around so that they will be one layer again. And, um, I know that layer. Step one. Now you can erase the corner Mark can raise the corner marks and you can fill in the new center off your her like so. And then, um, we basically repeat what we just did. A And you cardinal marks select your layer, so duplicates well there, say, for backup version and create two copies to move around. This time we will move our layers from the top to the bottom, earn from the bottom to the top. Make sure that my not a his exit. Mergea layers erased the corner marks. And now you can finish off your pattern by filling in the new MT. Center. Make your grid layer invisible and cure Don. 3. Testing Straight Repeat (lesson 1.2): next, you're gonna want to check. If you're pattern tile works out, you can either do that in a program that has a seamless pattern functionality like photo shop or Adobe Illustrator. Or you can do this. I'm procreate. First, select your pattern tile air and copy it into book Clipper. Next, you'll need to create a new file. Um, I like to use a rectangular format. I don't know. It kind of helps my brain obstruct better from the square shaped pattern tile, I guess from I like to use that didn't a four former, I think in the US that will be letter sized. And you can use your great template as a guide for Reese icing or pattern help sell creator file on, bring in your template and move it to the top like so. And now you can import your pattern layer from the clipboard. Um um, move it up all the way into the top left corner. I'm making sure magnetic is selective. Carefully resize it to fit the upper left square panels. No select um, the Reese Ice Thailand copied to the clipboard so you won't have to resize again. And, um, now chest copy and align your swatches until you, um, have filled up the hole and was very house. You just make they see less pirate. 4. Um, we have Aiken library and, um, our first copy off are layer that we are going to work with next. Now. This is where it gets a bit different from the street. We really not to copy so far pattern there. But we that's going to become clear what in a minute, Just like before, though, we will start by making the extra layers invisible and selecting or, firstly, a copy and move it to the left. I actually like this empty space. But for the sake of this tutorial, and to demonstrate how to fill up the whole tile and make it seamless, I will just bring in some more ICANN's. We will merge all of our Aiken layers with the powder layer to create one final pattern layer. And you're done. You just made 1/2 drop. Repeat pattern tile. 5. Testing Half-drop Repeat (lesson 2.2): situs of your heart. Drop repeat tile. You will have to arrange your pattern squares in a slightly different way. Creating Grid Template (lesson 3): That's number three. I'm going to explain. How would you create a good template on an iPad? And I'm going to use the screen car and a wash brush that I like and just paint a couple of blobs like so on. Let's use a contrast in color and a slightly thinner brush to at more kings in the court. I don't like that one. Okay? I don't want either. Okay. Here you go. Um, let's duplicate our lair, make it invisible and started with this one. Okay, um, let's select everything and down here it says either. I think I'm guessing in English. It's going to say freeform, maybe a magnetic. Um, make sure magnetic is toggled on, and then I'm going to move my pencil into my other hand, or you can just put it on on your table, and I'm going to use my finger and, um, put it somewhere in the centre, off the cameras. I think it's good. And chest move slowly to the right and you will see him, Um, the blue line lighting up in the center and, um, just move it over slowly. And if you lose your position, just go back slowly, and it will just snap. It wants to snap to them. Um, grid. Okay, if you're not happy, it doesn't snap to the center, though, Um, if you're not happy with where, um, you hit the center, um, you can change to the free for mode and then tap with your finger. Very, And it will move in very small increments. Right now, I'm stepping to the left, and it's moving a very small increments to the left, and I can go back. I'm topping until I'm happy with, um, where I am, and then these legs And, um, you're good. Let's do the same thing with the second one. Um, when I moved from the left to the right, I put it in the middle off the canvas and know that I want to move everything from right to left. I don't know. Make sure you're in magnetic mode and move over to the right to the left, and you have your blue light. And I have found that the more you veer away from this initial place, the harder it is to get back. You see, the line is suddenly somewhere totally different. So if you feel like you lost it, see, it doesn't snap anymore toe where I want it, it's not. So if you feel like you threw it off by, um, going around too much, just use the X and go back to the start. So just go slowly and bear with the program. This is not a program that was made to do this. Um, it has no way off moving around things, um, along annex or why excess like photo shop or illustrator or, um, programs like that. This not a future off this program, it's a drawing program. And, um, it basically, once you to move things around into it stiffly and it doesn't snap to a grid, and that can be a good thing. Um, sometimes you don't want things to snap to regret. So, um, you would be happy about this. So they since they work around and it's going to be fiddly, and you will have to just give it time and bear with it and go slowly and figure it out, and then you can do it. It's It's going to work for you. I promise. So just go slowly. And, um you know, if you looser position go back into it, I move it over and just be you be slow. But, um justice, If I guess so, I haven't hit the middle again. So I'm going to do my little freeform trick again and move it with very small increments until I'm happy. And I until I think it's dead Center. Here we go. And now you would erase the corner marks and joining your players and just keep going. Yeah, Thank you so much for old.
