1. Photoshop for Entrepreneurs : Object Removal: Hi, My name is Jeremy Diggin, and today we're going to be talking about object removal inside a photo shop. So let's imagine that maybe you've taken a picture of something that you want to use for your business or brand, but there's something in that photograph that doesn't belong there or you would not like to , for for to be there. So you've taken this great picture. But there's a bird up in the sky, and you don't want that bird to be there or something of that nature. So Photo Shop offers some great tools for removing objects and making it look like it was never there to begin with. And this is a lot of fun. I think you're really going to enjoy this lecture because it there's a bunch of tools that allows you to do this, and these tools are quick and easy. So this is going to be a quick one that will definitely show you what you can do to remove objects in your photos, and I've used this myself before. If I'm making Social Media Channel are or maybe some backgrounds or even some profile pictures where there was just something in the photo that didn't look right, and I just wanted to get rid of it. That's what we're going to be discussing. There's a couple basic tools that you can use their things within the menu bar, such as, Ah, fill tool that you can use. And so there's a couple different options to do this. Some of them are a little easier than others, but some of them provide more options than others. So let's go ahead and take a look at those tools now and how to remove objects with inside a photo shop. 2. Using the Clone Stamp Tool: Let's go ahead and take a look now at how we will remove objects inside a photo shop. Now the image that I have selected here is an image that I got off of. The website picks obey dot com, which basically offers creative common images free images that you can use that are free of copyrights any time that you are using images, whether this site or any site, just make sure that you're checking the licensing to make sure that it is okay to use. But this one is free of any copyrights and licensing free for commercial use. So we're gonna use it here. And basically we have this beautiful scene with these balloons in the air. And let's just imagine for men that we love the picture. We love the foreground. We love the sky, but we don't want these balloons. We want to use this for something else. Maybe we want to use it as ah ah blawg post image or some kind of other image in our social media platforms, and we don't want the balloons here. They don't go with our branding, but maybe the color scheme does, and we just we really like this image. So let's let's figure out how we can actually get rid of these balloons and make this just a sky background on its own. So the first told that we're going to look at is going to be this tool called the Clone Stamp Tool. And it looks like a little old fashioned Stamper and what we're gonna do. Let's go ahead. Zoom in here and we'll do this small balloon first. And basically the way that this tool works is you pick a brush so I usually go with a soft brush when I'm doing any time of these ah, stampings or cloning or anything like that. So pick something that's soft or you can even do a textured. Sometimes texture brushes worked really good. If you do a chalk or splatter, they can actually work good. You want to match the background that you're using. So if something is very textured and pattern, you might want to use that. If it's very hard, you might want to use a hard brush. You're gonna have to experiment with individual images, but I I typically find that a soft brush just works, okay and we can mess around with the opacity, the flow in all these later on. But basically, let's just show you how this tool works. So I have got this brush selected, and I can pick any size that I want to hear to sample. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to hold down the auto or the command key, um, the out on the PC of the command key on the Mac, and you're going to see this target, and basically it's going to sample whatever I target. And then when I draw, it's going to re color that in. So, for instance, let's just pick the balloon for now. This is not how we would do this, but this is just for demonstration purposes. I'm gonna left click as I hold down that key, and I'm going to come over here and I'm just going to start drawing. And as I begin drawing, you see, it recreates that image, and if you look, there's a plus sign that's that's drawing what I'm recreating. So if I go down to the bottom, it draws that and you can see where the target is, where drew that in so I could actually add in images this way also. But let's go ahead and undo that. And so what we want to do is we need to color in the sky around it in color over that image . Of course, we need to make sure that we pick something that's similar cause if we get over here to the very light area and we start coloring in its not gonna look right, because we have very light in the skies very dark right here. So you want to try to get close and kind of color the scent so we can pick this cloud right here, and then we can just dot that in and kind of fill that in, and then I can pick this darker color here. That's kind of by that cloud area. And if we get too close, it starts coloring in that that picture of that balloon. So maybe we come over here, we're a little more open space and color that in there, and I'm just going to follow that same technique, just sampling and then coloring in as I go along. Now you're probably going when you're using this tool, you probably want to use some other methods to blend this in a little better because this isn't one of the best tools as faras object removal, but it is a tool that you can use. And so you're just gonna want to kind of follow this process, and then you might want to come in here and just kind of play around with this moving colors around. Um, you might want to use the smudge tour, maybe some other tools inside a photo shop until you can kind of get that blended and real nice. So where it's not very noticeable. And that's kind of the key here is to try to make it still look like a sky and depending on the picture you're using and the effect that you're going for, um, it could look very fake if you don't do this right. But this is the first tool, and this is the clone stamp tool, and if we back out, you can kind of see that smudging there. But you know, to the naked eye or the regular viewer, they probably aren't going to notice that because they're just going to assume that that's part of the cloud and part of the image, and that probably isn't going to be a big thing for them. But you do want to try to make it look good. So it's not, you know, obvious. Like I said, you pick a light color and you come in here. That's not gonna look right or you pick this Ah cloud and you start drawing that in. It's just not gonna look right. So and you can see where I draw and where the target is, is where it's picking that image up. So that is the first tool that we can use to start getting rid of objects inside a photo shop. 3. Removing Objects with the Healing Brush Tool: okay for the second tool to remove objects with inside a photo shop, we're going to look at the healing brush tool. So if we click over here, not this spot healing brush tool but the healing brush told, We're going to click on that And this works kind of similar to the clone stamp tool, except it's going to try to calculate the area around the image as we begin coloring. And we can just do this all in in one swoop where the pattern stand tool. The clones. Stamper. We had to kind of keep sampling and going back and forth with this tool. We can just sample color over the image, and then she's going to try to draw in values around the image and make it blend in. So let's take a look at how that works. So same as before, I'm going to go real far away from this image for this to look good. I'm going to go right here. These colors are pretty similar to what we're going to go after, and I'm gonna hold down either the all all key or the option key for the Mac, and I'm gonna left click to target this area right here. And I'm just gonna color over this now, I might want to use a little bigger brush, but we'll try it with this smaller brush and to see how it works. And I'm just going to start coloring in and you can see our tar original target. And I'm just going to move back and forth across this image. And as you can see, it just kind of magically disappears because it's sampling that. And because these values air similar, it just it goes and colors out away. Now, I'll probably do this a couple of times just to kind of blend this in. Um, see, that was a That was a mistake. But just to try to see how Aiken blend that in, that doesn't look too good. But I might go back and forth. Um, a thing about some of these tools, as I'll actually do, um, multiple tools. So I might start off with this tool to kind of get the base down. But then I might actually take that, uh, that clone stamp tool and go back and try Teoh, touch it up a little bit and make it look better. But as you can see here within less than a minute, I was able Teoh immediately remove that image and it looks really good. And I might just like I said, do this a couple times trying to make those look like clouds and the sky. But as I said before now the normal person isn't really even going to be able to notice that, especially if we're using this for text or or were over links something over this. Most people aren't even going to be able to pick up that there's anything going on there. We see it because we did it ourselves so we know where the imperfection our imperfections are. But if you were to show this image, um, to just a normal person, they would have no idea that there used to be a balloon there. 4. Patch Tool and Content Aware Tool for Object Removal: okay for our last balloon. We are going to use a couple different tools and they all work differently. But they're all very similar. So I decided to just group them all together in this one lecture here. So if you go over to where the healing brush toys and we click down to the patch tool, what we're going to do here is we're going to create a marquee selection around the balloon and we're going to move it. And wherever we move it to, it's going to take that information and paste it to where the balloon waas. So it's a little easier to show than to explain it. So let me just go ahead and do this. I'm just gonna make a marquee selection. And now I'm going to left, click and drag and move this out of the way. And as I do, you can see wherever I move that marquee selection is going to fill in that information. So if I just try to get it very close to the skyline, you can see I can kind of match it up a little bit, and I may need to do some adjusting, but just try to get as close as possible and then I let go. It's gonna dissolve those together and try to fill them in. Now this is a great way to move things out of the way, but also, you know it's not perfect. So I might need to use the healing brush tool or the, um, clone stamp tool to come in here and fix us up and blend these edges in a little better. You can see there's a hot spot here. You can tell that this cloud in this cloud or identical so I might come in here and just kind of clean this up. I'm gonna undo that and I'll show you the next one. And this is the content aware Move, move, tool. And this is the same thing. Onley. What we're doing here is we're we're basically cutting out the image and then moving it. Where were before with the patch tool, we would move the image and it would grab wherever we moved it to and replace it. Now we're actually taking this image out and moving at wherever we want. So let's just see how that looks. Same thing I'm left clicking and dragging and creating a marquee selection. Now I'm gonna left click and drag this out of the way, and it's going to place this wherever I put it and try to blend it in. When I place it, it puts it there. I'm gonna hit enter to actually make it happen. Activate that effect. So now you can see that it has kind of replace those images and move this over here. And, you know, this looks terrible. I would have to clean this up if I was actually morning to move this balloon. But we're not doing that. We're trying to get rid of the balloon, so we need to do the opposite. We want to select a clear space and put that over the balloon, and we got to make sure that it's taller and wider than the balloon itself. So let's start up high, make sure it's nice and wide goes below the balloon and is wider than the balloon, and I'm going to click and select and drag it over here. I'm gonna hit enter, and it's going to try to look at the information around it and fill it in, but it always has this kind of weird where you moved it away. It kind of makes this weird look and I'm not ever too happy with this. I know you can come up here and mess around with the structure and the color and try to get different things to happen. But I've just I've never really got it to look perfect. As easy as, say, the healing brush tool is always find that a little easier. So let me show you the last one. This is also content aware, and it works a little harder on bigger objects, so we'll see how it goes here. But this is probably one of the easiest things to get to work. What we're going to do is we're going to select the lasso tool, and we're just going to create our own lasso. So I'm just going to go around and last of this up. Might have got a little too closer. You want to leave a little bit of edge, let me hold down shift and just add that in right there, okay? And we add in a little more here. So we got a nice, um, spacing between this because what we're going to do is we're gonna apply, Phil. That's a content aware fill, and it's going to try to figure out the information that's around this balloon and fill that in four. So let's see how well this works. I'm going to go to edit Phil and then under contents. Normally, you know we're filling in a color or black and white. This time, we're going to do content aware and make sure that color adaption is Ah, Adaptation is selected because we want toe, retain the colors and leave everything else as it is and hit. OK, it's going to calculate that. And then Walla it's gone. That is probably one of the quickest and easiest ways, and that seems to always work Very good. Um, it's like magic to me. I don't know how that thing works, but every time I do it, it just seems to work really, really well. And there you have it. We have successfully gotten rid of all of the balloons in this image with different methods , and like I said, it's a good practice to combine these methods. Maybe we do the content aware fill, but we see that there's some imperfection here. Maybe we want to grab the clones, Stamper Tool or we want to grab the healing brush tool and kind of fix that up. But very quickly we can come in and remove objects with inside a photo shop, and they've made it really, really easy to do that. 5. Use Photoshop to Remove and Object in Photoshop: all right. So now you should know some basic tools for removing objects inside a photo shop, and you can see how powerful this is and how easy it is. Some of these tools are really easy and a lot of fun to work with some of them. You have to tweak a little more and do a little more extra work, but it also provides you a little more flexibility and options with what you can do. And then also keep in mind that sometimes I'll use a combination of these tools so I might use the content aware fill tool to get the the main image out of the image or the main object out of the image. And then I'll go in with the healing brush or the clone stamp tool and kind of touch it up , and ah, definitely make it look better. And of course, as you do this, you're gonna want to spend a little more time than we had in this course. You can mess around with that transparency and the brushes and the flow and really, really make it look nice. But hopefully you understand the basics of how this works, so now that you do understand those basics, what I would like for you to do is go ahead and find an image online or an image that you have and try to remove an object from it. Then save out that image and upload it to the discussions or the project area of this class .
