1. Introduction: Hey, guys, welcome to my next class from the serious explored base of traditional demonstration thes theories to bring you a short introduction to the most of your illustration techniques so that you can find out what fits you and try something thing. Lash is very popular medium for many else traitors. So I decided to make this video introduction to painting with squash, and I chose to topic qualities of this 1,000,000 really show you will learn basics of working with squash pains. You will try few simple exercises to practice, and for your project, you are going to paint more or less abstract, two dimensional landscape. This class is inspired by work of various modern illustrators and by American folk art, which is kind of on trend. Right now, I highly encourage you to share your progress along the way and try to make all the exercises. But if you make only one illustration inspired by this class, it's completely OK. I'm really interested in my students projects, and I tried to give you some feedback. As you might have seen in my previous classes. I hope that you feel inspired and that you involve so that you can start working on your own painting soon. 2. Inspiration: As I said before, this class was inspired by American full card or naive art, and therefore you will see me painting country houses in a rule landscape. Let's show simple, pure contemporary illustrators who work in a similar way and you squash for the ever we have your amazing illustrator, Carson Ellis, whimsical illustrations off Rebecca Green, our folklore inspired illustrator denier Amir Ghalib Ola. Have you also her beautiful boob? Did I'd like to show you and it I'd like to recommend, because it's full off useful exercises that he can cry and you can learn from just step by step process that she shows in Dubuque. Another book. I'd like to recommend it, just that voter color by Helen Burge, which is a great source of various particular techniques. And there is a chapter on working with squash and on different dimensions you can focus on while rocking visit. I recommend to study their work since its precise and inspiring, and now let's get to painting with squash in general. 3. Materials: goulash pains, there seem to be big differences in various brands. Professional illustrators usually recommend Shrinky, but I've never personally clad does because, honestly, Windsor and Newton is the best. Brent. I could get integrate public. I was using cheaper brands before, like Reeves for Bill, and the quality was only so so. They didn't encourage me to work with this medium further. So if you like the effects of clash, try to buy something more fancy. It could really help the process in this case. But if you already have cheaper Brent off Slash pants at home, give it a chance. I use cheap brands than I want to mix nuclear more quickly, and I'm sometimes lazy to makes everything from primary colors. So I only changed to shade slightly with cheap colors or even with watercolors. Watercolor brushes are great for rocking this clash. You can use natural or synthetic fibers. If you saw my previous glass and working his voter colors, you might want to use for every smaller brushes For details. Number 0 to 4 are the most useful in this case, and also use square brushes for acrylics to parade flood backgrounds. When you work keep your brushes. Vet. So did clash will flow better under paper broke clash. The weight of the paper doesn't have to be so high as these voter colors. You can use cheaper vertical or papers, or you can try to use various thicker color for papers. You will see me experimenting disease throughout of adolescence so you can choose which options you like. You might also need a pencil for your stitches. All right, Joe, Open for small details are also sometimes use it for sketches under dark papers as well. And the ballot, whatever you like. And all blade will be perfectly ok for this purpose. 4. Basics: First Tips: So what is clash? It's in a big voter color was a choke like finish. It consists from pigment water and our become. It gives you the flat look, and it covers very well. You can go from doctor lie. You can start with the background, and most importantly, you can paint on colorful papers and create fun effects using the ground color off the paper. You are some basic tips on working for squash. Significant is that you can create different looking shades only by working this opacity off the color you choose. The opacity depends on an amount of water that he used. More Voter is better than you create first layers or the background. You can create next layers by adding more and more pigment on the first layer. Here, you can see that I've created four different shades from only one color second technique. You can try his pride brushing. This is a day to get some texture in your painting. Here I use almost dry brush with no edit voter to the color. Are you getting at only a little bit? And I cover some sports of the first layer of is a new color this technique can be used to create clouds, old boot or anything else that you can think off. You can create vet on vet college floors and blooms with squash. This is similar to watercolors only clash will be more opaque, and it's easier to control it if you want to learn more about working, but on what you can check my class whimsical animals with water colors. You will probably want to create your own colors. Since the color palette you can buy this usually limited before you start. Think about the colors you often like to use in your paintings. Do you have them in your bullet? If not, try to create them by mixing and make a little sport off your new preferred colors. You can share this in your project gallery when you see did it. Colors in your palette are getting dry. Add water or sprayed them with water and right amount of water to make wash flow nicely on the paper. If you had too much, it will lose its opacity. If you don't get enough, it will create those dry effects you always at second layer. Once the first is try advised, the colors are going to mix together and they will be difficult to control. But clashed rice really quickly 5. Exercise I: Simple Florals: Here's the first warm up exercise for you. I have mixed do new colors for this light baby blue and glide violent. Correct. You use a limited ballot for this exercise. Your task is to paint very simple florals and blooms in illustrative style. No stress. This is just a way to get a bit more family of this squash once you are finished chicken and details with wide open. 6. Exercise II: Objects: In the second exercise, we will be practicing painting on a dark background. As you can see, I have already created some simple sketches. Was a wide Children. You can use the regular pencil or white pencil as though bending these objects is already preparing us on. What's next? These things could be a part of the landscape. You will be Bentinck later so you can paint little building spurred houses. Some plants are creased. Many think you might like to practice and use in your final painting. It's up to you if you will let the color off the background be visible under the quash layer. I like to use it to at shadows in my paintings, and I enjoyed this effect. But if you use enough off pigment, the color off the paper won't be visible anymore. You can see that I started with basic layers. I always wait for the first layer to dry and deny act Details or second plan of is different or the same color 7. Abstract Landscape: was deserved. Exercise. We are getting closer to our goal. We will be painting an abstract landscapes. I chose very limited palette again, but a selection is up on you. I'm painting these abstract glove to shapes, and I can decide what they will become. Later. I use draughts and small lines to create swarms, different lines for fields. Then we have here the strangler shapes, presenting hime mountains and in the center of depending there will be of it on that, like I add bashes increase. After adding code details, I decided to finish the spending with watercolor pencil. In this exercise, I really want you to play and find out what style is comfortable for you. Maybe you go into a disk kind of abstract painting even more than the final project, because it's more free and playful. 8. Final Project: for your final project, you are going to paint a landscape illustration Using quash. You can use a photo reference like me and painting a British country house. Or you can try to paint your favorite place. You will probably need to simplify it a little for this purpose. I started with watercolor under layer, which is completely optional. I just feel more comfortable using it because there will be no blank spaces if I forget to cover something with squash. But in this particular case, I left only the past of the house painted with watercolors to rest, discovered with squash. Once the roto tillers bare dry, I've been to the glass using few shades of green. I usually makes my greens with some kind off poker to get more natural results. His death rain makes this brown for the bush's and light green tent for tulips. - Well , the garden is drying. I paint the balls off the house with white. You can see a bit of brown or ocher mixing with my white. I could cover this later, but in this case it's OK because the house time painting is old and votes aren't perfect. Yeah, even some really dirty parks devils. - Here comes the first layer off the roof. I already think about its future texture a little bit, and I use brush strokes following the texture I want to achieve. In the end, I think part of the background it should be a forest. Originally I thought that I will leave the vertical texture there. But now I see that a contrast with the background would be too high. So I have decided to darken it all. - Okay , was the big rounds are finished, a dark color on the windows and the first layer off the dock. I'm fixing some imperfections with white color and I think some more texture to the roof. Then I start getting some more details like tulips are shadows on the body. Off the dock. - I'm finishing defender Flame, Swiss Doctor Brown. I'm eating more booms and the trees for the forest background. When I decided to use the new color, I always tried to repeat it somewhere else on the picture. I always prefer mixing the colors I already used to create new ones. You can see that here used to green shades, brown, white, yellow and okra. Your results based, more balanced use ink limited ballot, and I can easily imagine using even less colors. It's usually a details and finishing touches with wide gilpin and this time also with watercolor pencils. I grow some shading in accents with these, but you can easily achieve similar effects using Kolnik Wash. - And this is the final result. If you are interested to see the original reference photo, you can find it on my Pinterest. You could see there that I simplified some objects and edit a girl and adopt to make the picture more alive. The level of abstraction off the landscape. It's really up to you. Try to find what fits your personal painting stuff. This is another example to difference is that the first layer created with watercolors is clearly visible here, and it creates great background for choirs, details and the bird. The painting is finished. His vibe. Gilpin again 9. Dark Background: example of landscape illustration is much more agreement and abstract, and it represents a favorite. A illustration. Can you guess already? Yes, it's a sleeping beauty. I started this an in Claire, and then I continued with a white pencil sketch. I'm afraid it's not very visible for you. In the end, the schedule will be covered by flash layers anyway. Then I premix the colors. I wanted to use beach and delighted blue shade. I will be painting the roses, and these will be similar to some florals I have painted in the first exercise. Or maybe even more simple. I'm trying to balance right amount of water to create the first layer off color, since it doesn't let my color diva Torrie, using thicker color, will create rough edges if you want edges to be super smooth and clean on dark background, use dark paper registered in Claire have you slide blue, two great leaves and white to paint a frame off the landscape from branches. Second player off roses. It's made with light blue again. I had another count of simple florals and a shape, which will of a prison Dolinsky far, far away. These are three mountains loaded Castroville stent Well given players are trying again at floral details with wide open Police are grated only as a simple drag. ALS and finished again Miss my Children. The rest is about adding details like little roses, the butterfly and little branches. - The perspective off the picture is simple. Big objects are in the front, and small bombs are far of a. This kind of perspective is often characteristic for modern landscape illustrations inspired by full card. Plus, it's really simple. Depend, - if you're into it pending conduct background. I think you will like to hear that I might prepare one more class on glass and increases stick Takes in future. Thank you very much for your attention, I hope, I explained, and demonstrated the basics of working with Flash. And I can't wait to see your paintings. Now don't forget that the project is to create one complex landscape your situation with squash, and you can share as many exercises as you like in out Boating gallery. Don't forget to upload your project into gallery because it can be a great inspiration for other students
