About This Class

It's fall, and we all want to enjoy the warming flavor of a pumpkin spice coffee or latte. But do we need all the artificial ingredients in the creamers and coffees we can buy at the store?

Should we pay $4 or more every time we want a pumpkin spice latte?

To that I say NO! Make a flavored creamer at home that you can add to brewed coffee or espresso to make your own economical coffee drinks. Bonus - this one is VEGAN! (but super tasty and perfect for carnivores, too)

Recipe is in the "Your Project" section of the class - you'll need raw cashews, water, a pinch of salt, maple syrup or other sweetener, vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, and ground cloves as well as a blender. You'll also get directions for making vanilla and cinnamon dolce flavored creamers and a savory version you can add to pasta for a luxurious vegan alfredo sauce.

As a BONUS, I added recipes for using your creamer for healthy make-ahead breakfasts or snacks using oatmeal and chia seeds.

Once you have the recipe down, you can adjust it to use with cow's milk, almond milk, coconut milk, cream, etc.

That's it! Simple, wholesome, and won't break the bank.

Howdy!

I'm Heidi - Texas native and lover of the outdoors and a mean cook/baker. I dabbled in yoga, mostly more vigorous types, until I became pregnant with my first son. That's when I had to start modifying my practice and seeking out other types of yoga because I simply felt too ill to do my normal practice.

After I had my son and experienced a lot of stress and anxiety about being a first time mom, I started seeking out non-physical types of yoga and delved into meditation and mindfulness. Eventually I got my 200-hour and 500-hour yoga certifications in yoga therapy and opened my own studio.

By the time I was pregnant with my second son, my practice had evolved to include all types of yoga - and it showed in how much better I felt. I practiced and taught right up... See full profile

1. Introduction: Hi, I'm hiding a yoga and meditation instructor here on skill share. Several years ago, I got really serious about looking at nutrition labels and started cutting out artificial ingredients and the foods I purchase. One of the first products I looked at was the flavored creamer my husband and I used in her coffee, full of oils, artificial flavorings and very little actual dairy. I decided we needed a change. Now I love copy, so I was definitely not going to give that up. Instead, I found that unease E way to recreate both the store bought creamer and expensive seasonal coffee drinks I ordered when I was out was to make a flavored creamer at home. Although the creamer will create is vegan, I think you'll find that everyone will love the creamy texture and taste. I think you'll be really happy to find you also save a ton of money using these simple ingredients that you see here raw cashews, water and natural riel ingredients that you can find in your kitchen along with a blender. I'll show you how you can recreate your favorite seasonal coffee drink. Just look in the project section of this class for the ingredient list and instructions, and I'll meet you in the next video to show you how it's done. 2. What You'll Need and Recipe: I'm going to start by pointing out the most important ingredient, and that is the cashews. He's a raw, untoasted, unsalted, unflavored cashews. I like to buy mine in the book section of my grocery. You're going to soak them for between 30 minutes to an hour. Add just enough water to cover, then soak. And this step is important because it's going to allow us to have a very creamy texture and consistency when we're done. And it's also really important. If you do not have a high powered blender, you're going to cover those with water. Let sit, then drain and rinse, and they'll be ready to continue with the rest of the recipe. So now that we have our sect cashews, we can move on with our recipe. And that's just one cup of cashews. Raw untoasted. So for 30 minutes to an hour, drained and rinsed and together with a cup of water and just a pinch of salt that's going to make our base recipe. With that based recipe, you can add a little bit more salt, pepper, maybe some garlic, whatever herbs and spices you want, and take that savory, and it makes a wonderful creamy sauce for pasta to move in the sweet direction, you take these three base ingredients and add two tablespoons of maple syrup. Now course you can change that to whatever you like, if you like more less sweetener. If you'd rather go with honey or coconut sugar, a regular sugar or brown sugar, you can. It's easy to customize. And then to make a simple vanilla creamer, you would add two teaspoons of vanilla. So we have these five ingredients to make a vanilla Cramer. If you want to go the cinnamon dull chain route along with these five ingredients, you would add two teaspoons of ground cinnamon. I'm going to show you how to do the pumpkin spice creamer, so we'll go with two tablespoons of riel pumpkin straight out of a can. Not the pumpkin pie, just plain unflavored pumpkin and then our spice mixture, which is two teaspoons of cinnamon, a teaspoon of ginger and 1/2 teaspoon clothes. And remember, all these recipes are in the project section of the video, so I'm going to start with that base Creamer recipe, which is our one cup of rinsed and drained cashews and one cup of water and just the tiniest pinch of salt, which, if you're going a savory or sweet direction, you will need, and we're going to blend that up. Start that . Go for 30 seconds to a minute until you see that there are no chokes left, and it has a really creamy texture. So now that we've got it blended, I just wanted to show you what the texture looks like. It's super thick and creamy, perfect for adding savory ingredients and making a pasta sauce or going in the sweet round . So I only have to do now is and the rest of our ingredients. And we have that two tablespoons of maple syrup. Remember, you can customize that. However you like that. Would you be just a base a sweet creamer, two teaspoons of vanilla That alone would make a base sweet vanilla creamer, and then you could add just cinnamon or whatever spice you liked. Toe. Have a flavored vanilla creamer, but we're going to add two tablespoons of pumpkin and then our spice blend the little on top. You don't have to blend for quite a long this time. Remember, start low, slowly increased speed every may be good for 20 to 30 and that is it. That's your pumpkin spice creamer. So I wanted to show you what the finished product looks like. That's what it looks like in the blender. I'm just gonna pour it into another little jar that I haven't noticed. It's super thick and creamy, and if you wanted to be a little thinner, all you have to do is add more water. If you want it to be more of a milk than a creamer, add more water. You can always at more or less sweetener. You can change out the flavorings. I suggest a taste as you go kind of approach. So if you are more interested in a lot or cappuccino type experience, what you can do instead of creamer is add a little bit of water to your creamer and make a flavor to cashew milk. And I put that in a jar, shook it up, microwaved it for about 20 seconds and then stick it to more should get more to make it a little more frothy. And then I am just going to pour it over my coffee and you can use brewed coffee. You can use expressive. Another option you can do is add a little bit of creamer and then some steamed milk that you made in the microwave or with one of those hand held for authors. And there you have a really nice pumpkin spice latte that will save you a ton of money by making it at home. 3. Bonus Recipes: they're back with some bonus recipes. I thought it would be fun to show you something you can do with your pumpkin spice creamer that you created for snacks or breakfast or even dessert. So we have overnight oats and she s seed putting, and they're really similar in their preparation. And like I said, that great for breakfast or first neck or even for dessert. And what makes them fun are the toppings that you can add. Now they both start. Similarly, the overnight oats starts with 1/2 cup dry, old fashioned oatmeal, and the chia seed pudding starts with two tablespoons of dry chia seeds. And then to that, you add 1/2 cup of water, two tablespoons of your pumpkin spice creamer, two tablespoons of maple syrup or whatever sweetener you bike. And for this chia seed pudding, I'm going Teoh ad nuts and fund many chips. You could see how easy it is to make this into a delicious snack or dessert, and for the overnight it's I'm going to add a handful of Berries and just a spoonful of nut butter. And for both of these, you want to let them sit overnight or if not overnight, at least like four hours. And that's what makes him great. Is their great make ahead meal per up meals or snacks that you can do in advance using that pumpkin spice vegan cashew creamer that we created? 4. Closing: I hope that you found this class to be fun and informative, and I can't wait to see what you do with your homemade creamers. You confessed any pictures of your coffee drinks that you created under the Projects tab.
