1. Presentation: Hi, everyone. Welcome to my class. My name is something and I'm going to teach you how to pay weeks occur what color portraits I like using by this media for my art. Some of my paintings are mixed media. Some are just a few weeks off pencil. But what colors are definitely my favorite way to sketch a simple face, how to digitally select a color palette and then translated in what colors? How to choose a theme for your painting and finally, how to use wet on wet and wet on dry techniques to get the best results. With you watercolors, you can also see the class project section, the assignments that will give you as we progress without painting, So I'm ready when you are.
2. Sketching a face: I always start catching a face, but try seeing a light straight line. It really helps drawing symmetrical eyes. If the shapes under and above the line of the same year as a good when the eyes are well placed, it's easy to place everything else. You can then use the inner corner of the eyes to place the nose investors. The mouse is what used to cut me the most trouble when I studied drawing and painting faces , but I found out that it's actually quite easy. If you start by marking that small space between their lives, then very likely shape the Cupid's bow and the airline of the Libs and very important, the corners of the mouth. They will get another expression to the face once everything is in place after the eyelids , always making sure that the shape off each I above the line stays the same. I think I'm showing you now. As for the iris, it is best to avoid during a perfect circle unless you're looking for startled expression. The round of the iris them opened the eyes, so these air so plays an important part in the facial expression for the eyebrows we will again use the inner corners off the ice as a starting point and the pupils at the reference to define the bend off the eyebrows shaped right under the mouth. Under the Cupid's bow, you can place a small mark, then another mark next to both eyes before you join all of them as symmetrically as possible to sketch the shape of the face round up. The chain litter refined the lines that defined the shape of the face at smaller, both next to the nesters and you're done. I would not demonstrate a slightly tilted help, which is basically exactly the same at the previous sketch, except that I drove to reference lines to make sure eyes and mouths a parallel. Now, if you already confident in your drawing abilities, you can go straight to the next lesson. If you would like to complete the class project, please pass the picture off the join you will use for your portrait. If you are not used to sketching faces, then you can watch these and post as you drove. As far as the eyes are concerned, a useful tip is to start drawing the shape so the inner corner off the eye under the reference line and to keep the eyelid above the line to make sure your eyes do not look sad or droopy. The nose is very simple. A small, curved line into black does not too far apart and slightly higher than the bottom of the curve. For the rest, it's very much up to you. Thin or thick eyebrows around, appointed face, small or big leaps. You can do whatever face your life. Just make sure you're pleased with the result. Since this is a better for painting, my advice is to sketch again and again until you become familiar with all the elements off the face so that you can sketch directly on your watercolor paper. If you'd rather trace one off the sketches, make sure that you leave like marks on the paper and in general, only use light Spencer's toe HR for age and they raise as little as possible. I start material is concerned, I noted in the class description. The paper that I use, which is somewhat a color excel, and you can off course by any kind of paper you like, but a strongly advise you to get a heavyweight paper for this project. As we need to use a lot of water. 300 grams is perfect and compressed is best to defuse the colors nicely. So here is my finer sketch. Your first project is to show me yours.
3. Choosing a theme and a palette: you might be wondering why I'm asking you to selected for your painting. Well, that's because having a theme will guide you not only for the details that you will act your portrait, but also for the colors you truth to use. So it's nice, in my opinion, to know right from the start where you're going tohave some direction so that you end up with a nice and harmony years painting. I'm going to create a spring boat together. Ideas for my painting. You can use Pinterest, but they're so cougar off Fricker, it's up to you. What I really like about Pinterest are the boats because I make everything very easy to sort out and to find. Right now I'm saving anything that appeals to me. Daisies, Dragonflies, lavender. Okay, I am not thinking off whether it would fit on it. In my portrait, I'm just gathering ideas, and this is how my final boat looks like. No, I will create a spring pilot boat to save a selection off colors that appealed to me, and we'll work well with my theme. When you do these, try to stay focused on the actual pilot rather than the photos even if they're beautiful, because we are only interested in the colors. If you have chosen a different theme and palate from mine, I would love to see them in the project section of the class. Here is my final pallets bought. It's quite a difficult choice because I love all of these colors combinations. But I will go for this one because it has lilac, proper and blue. No other reason really just love the straits.
4. From digital to watercolors: I am not ready to mix my paint, and this is my set up. If you're usedto painting, you would find it easy to recreate the digital colors with actual paint. But if you knew toe water colors, the best is to experiment with your paint and mix them. Make some charts, for example. And if you have trouble with a specific shade, just send me a digital color in the community section of the class, and I will tell you how to obtain it. Here I am trying to recreate the darker digital blue, which is not far from my indigo watercolor. As you can see, it needs a different shape, a bit of turquoise, and the closest I have tothis is Sheryl and Blue. So I mix these two shades until I get the perfect color. Always keep in mind that the intensity will depend on how much water you use. So what matters here is the tone, and I think this blue is close to what we're looking for. Next we will try to recreate this light of blue with against your lung blue, to which I will add a point off black. You will notice that My digital colors are very soft, nothing bright, so a good way to turn down bright colors is toe. Add a tiny bit of black, which with water becomes great. It is also hard. I will obtain the perfect pepper. As for the digital lilac, we can see that it is a warmer shape and the purple, so I will have a warm color to it that is not too far from pepper carmine red. It has a pinkish tone and works perfectly to create lilac. For the digital green. I have mixed lemon, yellow, green and emerald green. You can play with the primary colors that make green to change its tone. You can, either at more blue and more yellow, and you will obtain a lot priority of colors. This is slightly darker than the digital one, but it will work better with the rest of the palate. And finally, the digital bash. This will be used for the girls complexion, and I want it slightly moping. A common combination to create warm skin tones is Scarlett cadmium red and yellow ca. So I mix these colors until I get the tone I am looking for
5. The hair: wet on wet technique: We will now start painting the head using the wet on wet technique. But before you start painting, it's best to prepare a good quantity of painting your palate so that you can work without having to constantly stop to mix colors for wet on wet technique, you need to load your brush with water and basically paint with it carefully following the shape of the face and defining a hairline. Once you have done these, pick up a color from your palate and randomly apply it in various places and do the same with all your clothes except the pink that we're keeping for this king. While doing this. I am not planning or thinking about anything. I'm just dropping my pain free. Do not mix the colors with your brush. Just watch them bleed into each other. It's very relaxing and beautiful, so just enjoy it. Once you're happy with the amount of Kelowna paper, pick up waters, pre butter and, like thes pray water in different places. Not too much. Just press two or three times If some drops off color splashed on the face, gravitation absorbing without rubbing, then it's time to have fun. Pick up your paper and tilted in absolutely anywhere you want and watch the colors run down and create gorgeous effects. See how you can direct the running paint where you wanted to go by gently moving the paper . Now have a good look at your masterpiece and notice where it needs more pigment, either because it's too pale or two. Plane at corner before the water dries up and teeth again. Do it once more, but did not teach this time. As we want to keep some shapes, you can keep adding spots off Carlos until you're pleased with what you see. As for me, a suddenly visualized a flower in this big blue splatter, so I mopped it a bit in order to later paint betters. Now look at your splatters and I bet you will see something to
6. Painting the face: before we start, please. Not that you need to wait until the highest drive to start working on the face again. You will paint with clear water, avoiding the ice in the mouth. We will leave the neck. Drive for now with a medium sized brush, Grab a small amount of the pink mix in your palate and spread it even me. If there is too much pigment, just dry your brush and let it absorb the excess color. You can leave some areas lighter, like under the eyes for natural highlight and to shade the face. A mix a bit of my purple with my pink to get a cooler tone, and I played what's needed. You can either do what I do or use a reference photo if you'd like a different kind of shading. This layer is still wet on wet and very settled. It's about adding pigment little by litter. - When the paint is dry, you can pick up a very small brush and with a mixture of pink and purple, start painting the nesters. The sites of the nose and the mouth Days use very little water so that the shade is quite dark when the Murthy tears have dried. Pick up your pink with a bigger brush and little water and spread it on their lives. I had no pigment between the lips. While the paint is still wet, you can do the eyebrows in the color of your choice. We will get back to them later. I like to use the same color to shade under the brows. If you make a mistake, simply grab clean, dry brush and absorb the paint you do not want. Blending is quite easy with water colors. You can just pull the colors with your brush or at a bit of clean water to blend a new shade into the base. I am now adding another layer of shading, which I will blend with water, and I am finally adding another dark layer for the D tastes. Just use the colors on your palate. Do not be kept me ones. As you can see, I have applied a light wash off cerulean blue to the Eyrie sees while it is still wet. I add a touch of my doctor blue on the upper part and let it bleed. I inside a drop of green on the left side off theory. Cease to have a variation of blues and so on. Until I like what I see, I advise you to spend time on the ice. They really are the focal point of your portrait. I do the same with the mouth. I think a new layer of pink and removing some paint with a clean brush to create highlights with a thin brush. Trace the eyes in a light shade before painting the islet in dark blue at a little bit of water inside the eye to let the dark shade bleed. You will get deeper eyes this way when all is dry eye pain, the pupils in black. I also work on the mouth, details again and paint Isla. She's all in dark clothes way , Way have now completed the most difficult part off a painting.
7. Hair painting: dry on wet technique: you might be surprised to see that the face is not completing this lesson. When I paint, I alternate working on the hair and on the face, and it's up to you, in which order you paint what it does not matter, as long as the colors are wet or dry when you need them to be. In this instance, the hair is not completely dry. I pick up a color from my palate and with a rounded brush, I paint a strong off hair, varying the pressure of the brush on the paper. Then I apply some water along parts of the line to soft in it. I repeat this process with various colors, length and movements you cannot. Carlos in places where you want darker shades, just had a bit of water and let them bleed. You must work with a supple hand for this part to create graceful lines, the hair can be more or less wavy, can move in different directions. Let your inspiration guide you. As you can see, I am adding darker Carlos around the face, mainly because it's nice to create a contrast between the pale skin and darker hair. And they're so because it will bring out the ice. Now, if you remember a visualize the flower in the docks platter, so I will not painted. I am thinking of some hydrangea type of flower or dahlia around it shape. In other words, we were like small details to the hair in the next lesson, but it's a good idea to have one bigger element as a centerpiece off your theme.
8. Acrylics and pencil details : We have reached the last lesson off this class, and it's a fun one. Your portrait is and must complete. You could almost live it as it is, but I like to add small, whimsical elements toe all my paintings. So let's go back to a Pinterest board and check offspring ideas to see how well decorate this hair. I normally use color, pincers, white pence to draw these details. Depending on how dark the painting is here, I wanted to keep everything quite light and airy, so I'm choosing Spencer's because why details would not really show in the background. Once again let your imagination and creativity take over. At this point. You. Spencer's in pens later. Anything that will make this work yours. As you can see, I'm doing clovers and aliens, flower earrings, leaves and lavender or in harmony with my palate. - Do not forget the light reflection in the aisles for which I use acrylics. If you have not used white yet, you cannot some touches here and there to make everything pop out. - So here is my whimsical portrait. Your final and most important project is to past years, and I cannot express how impatient I am to see your work
9. Final words: I really hope that you have enjoyed this project and that you're happy with your painting. Thank you very much for taking my class. And I will see you soon. You
