1. Introduction: I'm Jade Harwood. I studied textiles and have a passion for sustainable design. In 2009 my friends and I started a D i Y fashion brand cooled bull on the guy. We have a collective of people who handle it, clothes and accessories. But we are also committed to teaching people how to create their own fun and stanish pieces . Today I'm gonna be teaching you everything you need to know about beginning lifting. First we cover how to hold your needles and health. Choose your world. Then I'm gonna show you how to cast on, which is the first step to starting any knitting projects. Next, I will demonstrate three basic stitches on teach quick fixes for common problems. By the end of this class, you'll know how to make this modern time this smooth. You will also be able to apply what you've learned in this class to make your own project. So let's get started 2. Supplies and Your First Stitch: Okay, so I'm gonna talk you through the supplies that you need. So first up, we've got the knitting needles. It is an important tool. Teoh, get knitting. We're gonna be using chunky needles because it's the perfect tool to choose when you're beginner. Because if unit on the skinny ones and you're gonna be there for hours, where's we like to go chunky. So it's go big or go home. We also recommend that you have a measuring tape. This will help you guides how long you'll make your stuff. Um, Then you just need a regular pair off. Uh, sisters, like these guys with this lovely residents drink and then also your needs. If you notice sewing needles on, they're just regular dining needles that your need to finish weaving in the ends at the end of your project, which I'll show you how to do it super easy. And then, most importantly, you need to choose your young. So we recommend Teoh knit your first project with super chunky wool. Why? Because it's you can get up a hat with this kind of young in 45 minutes, which sells like you can't. But I promise you get, um, so ah, crazysexycool is made in Peru. Andi. It's super forgiving for mistakes, which we love William Again, we embrace mistakes. We think it makes your piece more unique to use, so don't be frightened, and I promised to help you through every step. So let's talk needle sizes. There's tunnels of needle sizes to choose from. We recommend if you're beginner to start chunky because it's fast and it's easy and it's just more substantial. Toe hold on. You'll be able to meet a scuff really fast, and then as you go down the needle size, um, they get thinner and thinner and thinner. So if you're going to net on, thin needles is best in its with fine occasions. If you're gonna net on the chunky needles, it's better to knit with chunky wool, which kind of makes more sense. But then you can start to get creative. You can really knit with finance like this guy. Imagine you're gonna get on the chunky needle. Basically, you're gonna make really loose lacey kind of fabric, whereas if unit with chunky wool and on the chunky needle you're going, Teoh make a much more dense of fabric which is better for like, making, like, chunky hats in Turkey. Scots. Right. So let's talk about how to hold your needles and health cast. Um, so fast they need to do is take you young you to find their end off the wall. So basically, in this little hole, so just toe kind of wriggle around, find find the end and it eventually pulls out Well, they go and then you need to do the very first ditch and you do this by creating a slip knot. So take the end of your rule folded over on place it on top and make a loop like this again and you take your left hand and you go inside the loop and you pull the young that's attached to the wall. When you gently pull it and you can see a little slip knot is forming you good. The first stitch to take you to needles. One on your rights. One of your left, you're gonna find that you're right. Need was the guy that's doing all the hard work. And you left guys, where your your knitting is sitting on that If you're left handed, your left hand is obviously gonna be doing all the work. So put one needle down the working needle, take the slipknot they've just created and put it on your left needle. And that's a very, very first it basically what I'm gonna show you now is how to cast on take your right needle, push the slip not closer to the end. So it's even easier toe access. And then forget about this end here. The short and this guys is gonna be woven in at the end of your project, and then we're just gonna be concentrated on the young That's attached to the wall. Okay, so we're going to create seconds it. So take your right needle and insert from the left and push your needle to the back. This is the very first step. Okay? Said now need to get used to holding your needles because now you're gonna hold both your needles with your left hand. And if you're sat at home, you can rest the needles on your lap or do whatever feels comfortable for you. But we're gonna do is watch. This could take my right hand. I'm gonna come around. You take this young that's attached to the rule, and I'm gonna loop it around the back and down the center Can you see down the center hit and then this, but looks tricky, but I promise is not you've got a pull back your right needle and grab that loop that you just created. Basically gonna put it gently through you see, and then you're gonna get Take your left needle, come down, put that new stitch on your left needle and then gently pull this young and that's your very second stitch. Just there. Okay? And now to get your third Stitt on, basically, what I'm gonna show you now is what you repeat for a Z many stitches as you want. So it's slightly different to the second stitch. But what you do is that you're gonna go through the first and the second stitch so literally push it through. Can you see that it's fruit, the entire stitch. You're gonna balance your two leaders on your left hand, and then a particular right hand is gonna be coming around down the center and then you put your hand back on the needle, and then this is the tricky bit which promised with just practice that you just You kind of get the knack of it by the end. So, you see, I'm pulling this needle three, pull it out. That's a new stitch. And he twist. Put it back on the left needle, and then you pull gently so you never need to pull this too tight, because otherwise it's gonna be too difficult to continue costing on. Just pull it gently. Okay, so now we're gonna make the full stitch. So again, go through the entire stitch and then kind of get balanced again, okay? And then take your right hand, come round down the center between the two needles, and then it's that tricky little bit. We've got a just hook that noose loop, you see it and then you pull through and then he twists and put it back on, so you'll find that there's loads of different techniques were casting on. This is what we find is the easiest technique and what your sees that will create a very nice in the edge, which will see after you've kind of got about 10 more stitches. So again, let's make 1/5 stitch. So in through the first and second stitch. Keep your stitches close to the end. It's easier to move around. Okay, it's inside again. Take your right hand. Bring the young done center. I need to pull this little guy forward, but this and twist you put it back on and then you pull gently. Okay, so now we got five stitches. So basically, you can cast on as many stitches as you want. And if you're making a scarf, for example, we recommend about anything between 15 to 20 stitches. It really depends on how Why do you want your scarf? Some people like them really skinny. So maybe cast unless if you like super chunky scuffs than cast on to your heart's content. So probably 20 or more stitches is just perfect. Can you see here? This is your very first road. It's creating like a nice braided effect. So let's get going. Practice makes perfect. So in through the first and second stitch, just like this, okay, balanced to needles with your left hand in your right hand, bring the young around the back down the center, and then you're gonna pull this little guy, put him through distantly, and then he twists and he put it back on your left needle and he pulled me. So don't do this like that's too much. That's too tight. So just pull enough sets still good enough space so you can fix your needle through so again and you can see that I'm really using my index fingers to control the meals. So, for example, if you watch, I wrapped the young and watch my index finger kind of pushed this guy down to help. Most great. Keeping attention hit, Which helps you grab this young and then you put it three. Okay, I'm going to show you how to count the stitches, so it's quite easy. You just literally go from this ditch and he count along the entire road. So we've got one too. 3456789 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18. So we have 18 stitches here. I think, as the perfect number of stitches to start your first project 3. The Garter Stitch: Okay, so let's get knitting. I'm gonna teach you to basic knitting stitches. They only show you how to do a knit stitch on a post it and you will apply thes two stitches to three of my favorite techniques. So this is the garter stitch technique, and this consists off just netting, which is my favorite because it's the easiest to do on. It's the perfect stitch to make your first scarf. Then I'm gonna show you how to do stocking stitch, which is also another great stitch to apply to a hat. Um, and it's also very easy. So this stitch is basically consisting off the whole network and I hope Pulver, But don't worry, it is very easy. You've just cast on which is basically the hardest things doing knitting. So if you're still with me, this is definitely gonna be a walk in the park on disses must itch. And this is a very beautiful stitches. Very decorative is very text textured, Um and this consists off alternating a knit stitch on a post it on the same route. So here I've knitted already a couple of rows. So just to explain, these are all your stitches, which is determining how wide your scarf is. Like I mentioned earlier, you can cast on as many as you want and then looking down these are all your rose. So you're maybe Nets 100 rose. And it just really depends on how long you want No scarf to be toe Hold your to get used to holding your knitting needles. Take your right needle on your left needle on with the knitting sort of facing down and put your left hand on top like that. Okay, now for your very, very first it you do this thing could slip your first it It is very easy, kind of feels weird and loosey goosey, but you kind of get used to it. So let's start by in setting the right needle like that, you stop and then all you do is literally transfer that needle straight onto the right needle. And like I said, it feels really loose. But that's totally normal. So then you just tighten it a little bit, and then you gets going right, So that was called slipping your first it. And you do that because it creates a nice edge on your scarf. right, So let's begin so similar to casting on. But there's just one difference. So we'll start from the beginning, inset your right needle through the back, make little cross do the balancing trick again where you hold the needle on your left hand , take your right hand, take the young down the center the same as before. And then you kind of come down like you were doing before. But instead of pulling the young through, you're gonna push your right needle forward and you're gonna push your right needle to transfer, list it and thats it's and that's really gonna do. That is the most basic state she could learn a knitting. Once you master that, those four simple steps you're gonna be in knitting wizard in no time. Okay, so let's go again. So inside your right needle to the back, that's step one. Step two. Take your right hand up it down the center through the cross. Step two, pull right needle to catch that loop. That's Step three and then step full is just pushing it off. And that's why you need to keep your stitches kind of close to the edge so you can kind of move and transfer the stitches without these. For example, if you have your knitting needles like this, it's gonna be too hard to transfer stitches. So always keep them pushed up to the top. And then you use your index fingers to control the he sticks. But let's go again. So inside your needle violence to wrap it down the center three. Come under and catch that guy and then four fish him off. So once you got those four steps, you'll be flying. Okay. And again, one to three four. Now we're getting the last it again. A full kind of slightly loose Don't worry about it. So you it's the same as you did before. Just keep going, keep knitting. And then that, uh, that's your 1st 1st row of knitting Onda? Um, that's it. Super easy. And then you can kind of, like, stretch it out. You can see that your very first row that Okay, then we can ask this question all the time you like? Okay, what do I do? And I've reached the end. All we have to do is your gonna turn the corner like this because basically all you're doing is transferring stitches from the left needle to the right needle, and you just keep doing that. So now you be on your second birth. But already here, you can see I've netted a few. I've already cheated. So let's start again. So slipped. The first it insert it the same as if you were to net it. And then he'd transfer across. And you do this because it creates a nice, neat edge on Titan. And then you're off. So inside the needle, wrap it around the back, down the center, push it through your index fingers, and then and push a cost. The trick to know when you're when you're confident, Netto is when you can look on, watch the TV on, just knit away. Because at the end of the day, you're just repeating the same motion. And then and then soon it just becomes instinct. Yeah, like this. Okay, so I go slowly again. So inside the needle, rapid down the center, come under and push it across you Really? At the end, you're going get going tonight. The last stitch and that's it. So imagine if you put your getting down. Do you want to go start letting again the next day. So have your knitting in the left hand on that. Remember, the right needed was empty. 4. The Stocking Stitch: So now we're going to do stocking stitch on. This is a combination off an entire net room that an entire Pellerin. So first of all, we teach you how to do the post it, which is basically the opposite to the next. It so it really tests your sort of coordination. But again, it's very, very easy. So let's begin. So to start, you always slip the first stitch. And so to do this, I'm going to slip it pell wise. So that means basically, I'm I'm going in the opposite direction to and it waas So it's like this. See, inset the needle on opposite direction towards me. And then again, you just transfer across just like that and again, it just feels very loose. Tighten. Okay, let's stop the postage. So this is exactly the same steps as the nets ditch, but just the opposite direction. So are you gonna go through the stitch towards you? Bring your right hand and take the young, wrap it down the center, but forward and then you gonna reverse your right needle, push it back, transfer across. I promise. It's really easy. It's just getting used to the direction so again in set the right needle towards you. Bring it down the center towards you again and then push the needle back. It's kind of like professing up and then push it across. So normally, when you're knitting the honest back here, But when you're piling the honors forward always and then it was also important. So when you're knitting in that direction when you're pearling, you knitting in this direction. So again so Step one is push the needle towards the front, wrap the on down the center towards you and then reversed little backwards and pressure. Okay, again, insect, that needle. Wrap him around, push it back, transfer him across. So it's basically the same principle, but just a different direction. So I wouldn't really slowly and show you all the angles. It's a here. The young is at the front. Don't forget hit. Take the need theon. Wrap it down. He's at the front and then push him back and transfer requests so you can see them always using a moving my right needle because he's the guys doing all the work se again inset to the front, wrap it down the center, push it back so you keep going exactly the same all the way to the end. Okay, Then you power your last it and I'm turn your needle around and then swap your hands so that you're right. Needles holding empty the empty stick. Okay, So just to explain when you're knitting stocking stitch, one side of fabric looks like a series of these, okay? And then the other side of fabric looks like a series of waves. It looks like little bumps. So that's really important for you to know when you know. So if example, if I put my my letting down, I know that when I picked this up that I have to do a metro because I'm knitting on a side that has a series of these. And then if you turn it around, I'm looking at all the bumps. I know that I have to pull that rope if it's if that's facing me. Okay, so now do my network, because I'm knitting into the V's. So I slipped the first stitch like always. And then you start knitting. Some people prefer knitting some people for pulling. It's, um whatever kind of feels more natural. I'm or Aneta on a pallet. So you know, this whole road and then I promise you'll be as fast as me one day. Well, I'm not going that fast, but look semi fast, Right? So keep going. Unit the tyro all the way to the end and you stop. Turn your knitting around its foot the handover And you can see that I'm on the side That looks like a series of bumps And that tells me that I have to tell this entire, very it's not get pulling again You slipped the festive paralyze. So that is again just coming into the front, transferring across and then off you go. And then he stopped running. So I'm gonna go a little bit slowly again. So and set the needle, wrap it down the centre reverse transfer across. I say you just keep pearling. Well, the way to the end. And that's how you create stocking stitch. Okay, so that's how you create stocking. Stitch its entire net row and then a power and then keep alternating as long as you want your scarf or hat again. It's super super easy to knit 5. The Moss Stitch: Now I'm going to show you how to do most it. It's my favorite technique that creates a really beautiful fabric. It's perfect for making a smooth because it's nice and slouchy. Andi, it's just so beautiful that you can see the different sort of stitches that the knit stitch and a post it creates so we'll show you how to do this. So I just want to remind you that you will cast on for all the techniques that I've shown you exactly the same technique and then the knitting in between After your cast on very convey, Ari. So don't forget to cast a gun is always the same. And then your knitting vary from project to project. So let's start mustard. So with your knitting in your left hand on your right needle slip the first stitch like I've been showing you so into the stitch transfer across. Okay, so what you're going to do is you're gonna knit the next it, and then you're gonna bring the young forward, and then you get Appel the next it and then repeat. So you go knit. One stitch per one stitch knit, one stitch per one stitch on the trick to this stitches to really get used to transferring theon. So I'm gonna net this stitch like this. Yeah, and down the middle, come under and transfer across. Then you stop. So now you're young. Comes down the center to the front because when you're pearling, your young should always be at the front signal, you po and then wrap it around London and transfer across. Then you have to put them the un back Teoh in it. So you go back between the two needles and then you nicked the next it and then you repeat , Then you bring the young down the center in any post. So between ifs, knit and Purl stitch, you always have to transfer the young. So that's why I can get a little bit confusing. But after a while, you kind of start to understand that you always doing this sort of action so to net, to take the yard to the back. And then I met to pull I bring the young forward between the two needles like that. Then I po tune it to get back and then unit the next it and tipo bring the young forward any pope. Okay. And I'm gonna show you how to try and understand if you're doing a knit stitch. Everything Appel. So if you look closely at the stitches on your left needle, you can see that that's a bump. And then that's a little V. Then you got a bump, and then you go to V, then you get a bump. You lost it so you can see that little bump. So you gonna knits into the boat and then you got a pearl into the V and then take a young back again. So nets into this little bumpy guy. And then you bring the on food, how into that feet and the nets. Then you probably lost it. Um, it's always easier to net the most stitch technique with odd number of stitches. So I've got 15 stitches here. So now, basically, I would repeat the same. That's stitch technique. That was just doing so. I'm gonna slip the first it on the net. Ponette, Ponette, pound it all the way to the end. And because you have an odd number of stitches, they basically start to stack up on top of each other. Alternatively. - Okay , that's your most stitch technique complete. No, 6. Quick Fixes: right. So sometimes when you're knitting a mistake like this happens where your stitch fools off your needles and stuff to unravel Basically creeks. A big letter. So to fix this technique, you can use your fingers and I'm gonna show you how to do that. So place your knitting down so you can see what's great about Chunky Bull is that the night is it won't fall down so far, so you can kind of catch it before it goes down to too long. So you grab this ditch that's dropped, give it a tug so you could create a big enough hole, and then you gotta pull the next stitch through and basically recreating the nets ditch just by putting it through the hole. So repeat it. So you're holding onto the stitch, you take the one that's just above you, pull it through the hope. So she again put out you go give a good tug. You pull the ball through, keep pulling in the last one, you pull him now you fixed the ladder. Then you can put that back on the needle and you never know it happened. So that's what it looks like. If you've dropped a stitch on a on a network. I'm gonna show you how you pick up a stitch on a power. So another really common mistake, which is really easy to fix, is when you all of a sudden realize that you've created too many stitches as unit. So, for example, I started with 15 stitches and then all of a sudden I've got 20. So what you do is a simple technique where you just unravel. So this is how you do it? It looks scary, but it's actually quite fun. So you pull out your needle. Did I? I feel very scary, but it's quite liberating. So you're just going Teoh, pull the young until you stop Teoh, see whether mistakes up and then keep unraveling. Until you I can count that you have the right number of stitches again. So here I can see that this is did the right number of stitches I started off with. So the next step is to get the stitches back on to you, Nico. So you must remember that you inset the needle at the end at the opposite end from where the young is attached to your book so inflation hitting down, Could you find it easier to in seven stitches again? So it started from the end. You just basically pick up the stitches slowly and again because this yarn is super chunky . It's easy to kind of pick up the stitches again versus them or unraveling, unraveling, okay. And then you keep shuffling the needles back on so NATO to eventually you get to the end. 7. Casting On: Now we're ready to start the final project, and we were going to be using two poles of all at the same time. So for this project, we're going to be using 12 millimeter needles, which is 17 us in American sizes. So but these guys down then take you'll and again find the end that's in the center of the whole. Okay, that's the end for those two ends. So to cast on with two colors is just a little bit of extension of what we were doing before. So let's start with the white that starts with the slipknot se cross over and make a leap like this and then grab down. Take the young, Put it three. Okay, that's your first. Lighten up, then Make a slip knot with your black yon cross over Can you see? Come down Military. I met okay. And, you know, in your left hand. But the white slip not on first, like that's Titan. And then take the black Slipknot. Put it on second title. Okay, so right now they're not connected. That's totally normal. But as you'll see, they're stuck to connect. So take your right needle and you'll begin the costume, so don't worry about these ends here. We're going to leave this in later. So what you're going to do is that you're going to cast on each color attentively. So now you have to cast on a white stitch. So these guys are separated. That's totally normal. So what you going to do? Insert your right needle into the black stitch like that? But instead of normally taking the black yard, you need to come under and take the white, young and custom. So that's the same technique. But you just meeting with the first kind of Okay, so wrap it down the center, fill it three like you were doing before. And he twists. He put it back on the state of now you can see it goes white, black, white. So that means we need to cast on a black stitch. So don't worry. At this stage, it kind of looks a bit funky, but it settles itself out. So for your third state of your casting on you go in between the first and the second stitch so you can see it's in between the first in the black one. You don't go through Here you go through. Fantastic. Okay, so now in its cast on the black stitch So you come under, I just turn it around. You can see that the white stitch, the white Yonas. First we need to grab the black that can't comes under past the white young, and then you costume. Okay. And now you cost on a white stick. So again inset the needle between the black and white like that, Then you come under. You find the white young and you come over cost on. So what you're going to find is that throughout this project, your young does get tangled up. But don't worry about that. Like you just kind of have to be patient and just sometimes untwist like that. Okay, So I would recommend that you cast on about 40 stitches if you're still a beginner. So at one of the gang, we loves that stuff. That's super over side. So we cast on Loeser stitches. But if you're still a beginner, start with about 40 stitches, and this would be much more manageable, um, to knit. So just to show you an example off a needle that has lows of stitches on this is totally normal. So don't be put off if you like. Oh, my God. What's this crazy snake? That's kind of happening on this new That's totally normal when you're just a bit more confident. It just is a project that you just do slowly and you just get used to having lots of stitches on your needle. That's why we recommend if you're still a beginner, just cost on a list. So let's go slowly through the two color casts on again so you can see you too. Colors hanging here. Now what's cast on a black Stitt inside your needle through the whites and the blacks Tit Okay, so you're casting on a black stick so unique Teoh, grab the black young, pull it past the white like underneath and then up and amount on the same twists and you put it back on. Okay, so now the white Yonas here. So now that's gotta go past the Black state. The Black hills. Okay, so in between the black and the white, grab the white young, wrap it round down the center under, but a three and put it back on so you can see like again like the young stuck to twist. So you just have to work with the to kind of stop it tangling Okay, it's continued, was cast on a black stitch and then it's cost on a white stick. I'm here. You can start to see that the Carson edge has a really decorative trim. 8. Knitting The Snood: Part I: So now you've casted on 40 stitches to begin your snood on. What's really nice about this technique is that it creates a really beautiful braided to color trim, which adds a very nice effect to your snood. So to create this technique, you will be a combination off knit and Purl stitches. Andi, To create this effect, you'll be doing lots of sort of stopping over three young like you were doing in the most stitch technique. So let's begin. So the first thing you do is that you're going to knit the first black state. So you insect in the right needle, you direct the young down center, come under on it, the first it. Okay, so now what you've got to do if you need to do this thing where you're gonna grab the white young cities, arrest your needles, grab the white young here, come under and over and over again through the center They got a pearl, that white stitch. Okay, then you take the young back over there between the two needles and now what you going to do? We're going, Teoh, wrap the black young and this goes, Those were the white young okay on unit it. Okay, but then the black yarn is still here. And then this white young is gonna wrap round that last ditch it has created down the center. And you got a pearl. The next it and he stopped. Take the on back the black yard, then jumps over on unit the next black stitch. Okay? And stuff Crestor Needles. Bring the white young forward under the black young. That's really important to remember impel the next itch. Okay, Stop. Then you take the white young back again. What? The black young then comes around and you knit the next black stitch and stop and in the white young again comes under the black young full it on any pope stuck Take the own back again The black yarn is over the white young on the net stuff Bring the what young under the black Back down the center and pull the next it so it's important. Remember, on the first on the first road that you're always going to pearl the white stitches and knit the black stitches that help he remember which pattern that you're doing So and also the trick is also really to pay attention Toe where the young is sitting So, for example, now going to do the black Stitt? Be honest, White Young's at the back, magnetic and black Your must be above this young here. So I'm gonna next. And then this black young travels across this white young Okay? And you stop, Then you're gonna pull the what stitch? So the white young must be under the black. You bring it forward. It covers this bar here and then you pull. Okay, you stop! Take the young back again. The black Leon jumps over the white and the new net and you stop. Bring the white Gone under on over Pearl, Take it back. Bring the black over the white and then unit again Bring the white under the black and over Compel Take the white young back Kyung jumps up and then the next What? Young under on over Pearl What? Young back Black young up and then it so 9. Knitting The Snood: Part II: So now we've completed the first room, and now we're gonna work on the second. So turn your needle round can put into your left hand take your right needle on. Let's start a second birth. It's important to pay attention as the second is different to the first, right, just slightly. So let's pick in the second word. Let's start with and it's stitch on the white young. So you know that like this, let the first egx bring the young to back places towards you. And then you do this technique where you need to wrapped the black yarn under and over the white young. So it's just sitting underneath this white peace here again. Now you're going to Pearl, the black stitch, and you're always going to pull the black stitches and always nit the white stitches. Now it's the opposite of what you were just doing on the first right? Repelled that black stitch, and then the white young then comes under and over and unit the white state stuck. Bring the white young back through the center, and the black young goes over that white young and a new pearl Black Stitt and then stop put the white young over and it's the what? Stitch. Stop again. Bring the young back down the center The black yard goes over the white young Any pope we stopped white young goes over down the center and then unit What young goes back over black young jumps over the white yarn In any poll what young goes back through the center And it's the white stitch Quite young Down the scent again Blackie on Must be over the white young in any And then the white stitch goes over again. And unit what young back black You on over black young pills. That's pretty normal if you pick up these extra bits, but the young hides itself Well, the little Harry bits, I get what you want. Back over, down the center, then unit what you back black young over from Pell. What young over then, Units. And then you just repeat this all the way to the end of the earth and then to complete this nude. You just repeat those two verse I've just shown you. Okay, so now at the ends off the second room, what you're going to do from now on is se From now on, you're going, Teoh, repeat what I've just done. So your net The first rule, as I showed you and then the second world. 10. Finishing Touches!: So after ignited a couple of rows off your snoot, you'll start to create a beautiful pattern like this. So one sides off your snood will have vertical black stripes on the other side will have horizontal black stripes. So to help you understand which row you you have to net. I'm just going to explain to you that if this pattern is facing you, you know that you have to pearl the black stitches and knit the white stitches. And then, alternatively, if this pattern is facing towards you, you know that you have to earn it the black stitches and pearl, the white stitches. So, basically, you're going to repeat those two rows until you've knitted this need to your desired length . So that's when you get out your measuring tape. You decide if you want your piece to be 25 centimeters or 30 centimeters. We recommend that that centimeters of probably a good size for a snood so now about to cast off. And it's the most exciting part of the process where you could be so proud of what you've made you cast off as soon as you're happy with how long you've made your Sneed. So it's very simple. It's has four simple steps, so let's start. So you're going to It wants to it in the white young. And then you're going. Teoh, take the black yarn over down the center and mitt the second stitch. Okay, then you're going to pass the white stitch over on off the needle. Okay, so watch this. Slowly grab this young here and then pull it over. Food wave enters off the needle, and that's it. And I'm going to repeat, so basically have just cost of the very fast it. So it's cost off a 2nd 1 one. Nic a stitch to get ready to pass it over three. Slide it off, and four, take it off the needle completely. It's now have cast off a white stitch on a black stitch, and then you're gonna alternate two colors. So basically, you're always going Teoh knit the white stitches and knit the black stitches in your cast off process. So, mitt, this stitch and the black stick jumps over the white. Okay? Then take the black young no black stitch and allow the white sticks than to jump over. So, basically, to summarize what you're doing is that you always have to stitches on your right needle. And then the second stitch is then cast off se the white young. It's the white stitch, and then the black stitch jumps over, you know? So then again in it, the black stitch with the black yarn. And here you can see you have the two stitches, and then this white guy is gonna jump over, and then basically, he's been cost off. Okay, then you gonna admit white stitch and in the black stitch jumps and then unit the black stitch with the black yarn, and then the white stick jumps over the black stitch, and then the light stitch the black stick jumps over, and you just basically repeat those steps until the end of the road, alternating the two colors that you're knitting with. - So this technique is basically the same technique that you use for every one of your knitting projects to cast off. And it's exactly the same for every single knitting projects, except in this particular case, on casting up with two colors you can cast off of one color, which is slightly easier. Okay, seven. Any that. So keep going until you have one stitch left and it's the same again. Gonna cost him off. Now you have two stitches left on your right needle, and we're gonna do is the same again. You're gonna pass the white stitch over the black. So the last thing to do is basically give this young a tug. You can then take the right needle out, hit your scissors and you can cut the on, and you basically pull that young away through to secure the end. And that's costing off. Well, uh, so as you can see, the cost off creates a nice braid effect along the edge of your knitting. And particularly, it's even more beautiful with a black and white color combination, cause you can really see the definition off this technique. Okay, so the last thing that I'm gonna show you after you've cast off is how to seem your snooze together. So take a white piece of long young, and then you're gonna use You're not a seven meter this little guy. We recommend to use chunky seven leaders because it's it's easier. Teoh threat the sticky on three. So now thread the needle with white young, you just stuff him through the home. So now we're going Teoh seem up this edge here. And we've taken a matching color so that it would be basically invisible. You won't see this. The scene. So to start, you just need toe go at the very corner of the edge. And then I always leave, like, a little bit of a end because we're leaving that later. And then you're gonna start basically working across, we'll get to the end. So to attach to each corner and set the needle to the other. Um, you have corner now. What I'm gonna do is go from this novel. Do that. Let's go over to the left side, up through him. Pull the on three and then on the other side, go through the other bump and then go again to the bump on the left and then on to the other side up on the left side. So you go from the bottom to the top. Basically, you just continue all the way up to the top until they reach the end. Okay. On the last thing to do that, you gonna turn over her knitting. Ongoing Teoh. Basically, we've the end of your young back through the scene to hide in the end. So basically just kind of going through this scene just to disguise it. I'm like I said, Value, like CrazySexyCool is super forgiving, hides everything. So you probably need to kind of leave in about four inches max. And then it's secure because the fibres sort of like mesh together and hold tight. They take your scissors when you step right up to the edge, so just remember that your snood will already be connected here. So in actual fact, you only have one scene, too, so you might have to practice the basics like the knitting and the pearling a little bit longer. But after you've got those mastered, you definitely out to make a move like this.
