1. Portrait Ink Effect Demo: Hello and welcome to a new photo shop tutorial. I'm Andre from PST box. And today I would like to show you how I created this, uh, Inc. Poor to the fact in for shop, it's opting quite easy to achieve. We will use a few stock images, like three or four stock images, and we'll create some custom brushes. Andi, I will show you how to use their mosques. And, um, how to combine this? Stalking me just to create this ported effect is not a difficult effect to achieve. And I hope you will like it. Let me show you the original image, so we will use this portrait. But you can use any portrait that you want it something I said it's quite easy to achieve. And I hope you will like it and let's get started. So, as I said, I will use this image for this tutorial. I'm gonna select everything in co opiates, and I'm gonna use a smaller. So while this is actually a bit smaller at it, I'm gonna go copy murders. And I'm not gonna use the full size of the image because I'm also recording the video I'm gonna use about 2000 pixels for the with and lachter high, maybe even a bit smaller, like one 600. And this will be easier for my computer to handle, so we will start with this. But before we move on, we have to create the background for for our manipulation here for our artwork. So, Margaret, the new solid color layer and I'm going to use the colors E three e three e three months of the car coat this light gray. You can add any, um, background that you want, but on lighter backgrounds kind of looks better, I think. But try other backgrounds as well. You're free to do that if you want. And next, I'm gonna go to filter noise and add some noise. It's gonna ask me Found to come later styles later. That's when why I'm doing this this time I'm going to use the second brush, which is this one. 1800 is okay. I think I wrote it like that. If you want to see where the woman is is you want to see through this layer mask, you can double click on it and drop the density of it. I don't know. Not all all four shall versions have this. But the latest for shops here. Six, I think has it. And now I'm gonna paint with white right here again. One quick to reveal this part of the face like that. And that way we keep See that we keep some of the some of the depth on the texture from that from this little mosque that we created there. Otherwise, it looks kind of flat. You on the edges, and I don't really like this. Um, you can even use level to further. But this time I need to create the letter mosque here. But I cannot use the same one. I have to look for the layer mask that belongs to the top part. So that's lucky. Locate that. And I think it's this one. Well, this is part of the letter mosque and also the top parts. I'm gonna first control quick the a layer mask of the first of later. One copy. And I'm gonna fill that with white right there, and you can see it creates constraints. The little mosque over to this area, then a curves adjustment, and I'm gonna go into each channel here. I'm going to give you the values that I have for the curve. So on the blue, I have two points one here and one here. The 1st 1 where is with input 63 output again. 63. So just put it inside. Wallace cross here and the 2nd 1 on input off 210 and output 198. This makes the the highlights and part of the mid tones a bit yellow er, while keeping the color here on the on the, uh, shadows on the greens have just one point here, Andi, with the input 1 73 and output 1 69 So I just added slight, slight touch of magenta and on the Reds again has just one point with input 1 37 and output 121 again, some red, some magenta story on the mid tones, and that's it. That's the adjustment that I made. With occurs, you can see the result, and next to finish it up, I merged everything into a new layer by pressing all to shift command and e or refuse a PC shift all control E on I'm gonna take this into a smart object. A smart object, just in case. And here I used the camera. Raw filter. If you don't have four shops CC, the way you do this is first save this image as a J pic file and save it at 100% quality and then go to the full shop preferences and inside a camera raw. 2. And next, I'm gonna go to filter noise and add some noise. It's gonna ask me Found to convert this into a smart object. If you're Photoshopped version does not do this. Just rest. Arise the litter and then apply the one this this noise or convert your layer into a smart object and then apply the noise. I just used 2% on the Gaussian monochromatic just to add a bit of texture here. If you want to add some sort of vignette in you can Instead of using a solid color, you can use the Grady Ent and used that code that I gave you and then something a bit darker and use the radial style and get a nice, um, like this great younger with a lighter part in the center. And next, I'm gonna go to the filter gallery and apply texturizing with the setting scaling 120% relief one and lighting top. By the way, it's inside the texture folder on the filter gallery. And again, this is just add a bit more texture to the image. And next, I'm gonna add yet another texture on top of this to add a bit of color and, well, it's a bit too flat. If you like this, you can stick with it. But, uh, I just wanted at something bit, um, a bit more interesting, kid. Or so let me compress controlled Monteagle the free transform and I'm transform Tool. And I'm gonna just squeeze this to fit my cameras and quick presented to accept the change . I'm gonna leave the normal bland mood, but I will drop capacity to 40% just to see through this texture and see the orginal background that I created. Now I'm gonna drag this, uh, well, which I'm going to create a copy just in case. So at the end, I'm gonna share the before and after. So put your portrait on top of your canvas and what we need to do now is use the stock images off that pink inside of water to create some custom brushes. I'm gonna show you how to do that. You already have the brushes in the stock folder, and I'm gonna show you how I did that. But our have them created. Let me show that brushes are right here. I just have this four brushes and I'm gonna open the stock folder. These are the images that I used to create. The brush is so I used this to images. You can also use this one. But I think I did not convert this into a smart into a brush on. Then Also this one. What I also did is I this one. This ink right here I deleted the background using the magic wand and this one as well. And I just saved them s PNG files off. You have them all inside. You'll have everything here inside a stock folder while this one is another stuff that I saved. But this is not from not for the editorial. Um, So what you would do is just open this. I'm gonna show you how to do that, but how to do this. But if you don't want to do, we just don't do it. As I said, you already have the brushes there. But just in case you want to know how to create a brush, what you do is just select this part here, and I'm gonna copied onto a new document and fill everything with Black to match the background and merge both layers and hear what you would need to do for the brushes to where you have to have the background to be white instead of black. So what you would do is just invert this and then you would simply go to edit and choose, um, the fine brush percent. But I think it's too big yet higher than 5000 pixels, and I think that's why it's not working. I'm gonna make it slightly smaller by using the got this Wallace crop tool. Let's try again. Yeah, the fire was bigger than 5000 pixels in height. And that's why I couldn't create the brush because the maximum brush sizes 5000 pixels. Now, this should be black and white. But it doesn't really matter if you have it like this. If you go to define brush preset, you will see that this actually the background is not there. And the brush is white. If you want to see how it would, how it will look on in real life. So to say you would drop this situation too. 20 Walter minus 100. And this is how your brush would look like great one to have the background and the brush is created. What do you want to do is create a copy of your model and drug on top and then create two more copies. So you want three copies of your over your model here or for if you want. And I'll tell you why. While we want to do is create uninvited layer mask for the three of this for three copies here, someone oppressed all done click there their mosque icon. This creates a black leather mosque and I'm gonna copy this to the rest of the copies by Alton Creek and dragging it to the to the other ones. And what we want to do now is we want to use those brushes that we created here they are and reveal the bars of our portrait years. I'm gonna drop the size off. The brush is a bit because I lowered the chemist size. So I want to use a smaller brush. And what I want to do is make sure that I have the capacity and the flow of the brush to 100%. And I want to paint with white to reveal. So I'm gonna like this layer mask for the first copy and probably I'm gonna rotate the brush a bit if you don't have this year. If you annoy older version of photo shop, just press F five or open the brush presets here and from the brush tip shape Just rooted. Disobey it. And I'm gonna click once right here. And you can see I revealed part of the of the woman and I could now select another brush or just wrote it this brush a bit and click again. Maybe here and do something like this. But I want to have the letter mosques separated because I want to be able to add later stars to the edges off this. That's why I'm using copies. But if you want, you can use the same layer mosque and just use one copy and then use the brushes on one layer mask and that's it. I prefer to have more flexibility for want to add some layers title later styles later. That's when why I'm doing this This time I'm gonna use the second brush, which is this one. 1800 is okay, I think Rotated like that. If you want to see where the woman is is you want to see through this layer mask again? Double click on it and drop the density of it. I don't know. Not all All four shall versions have this. But the latest for shops here. Six, I think has it. And now I'm gonna paint with white right here again. One quick to reveal this part of the face. And now I'm going to select if this second brush here and, uh, again, I'm gonna make the brush a bit smaller, like 2000. Let's see. It's still too big. 1 700 and it's OK when I think I'm gonna flip it. Your presence, shifty. While you move this, you can move it in increments. Andi, I'm gonna select the third copy, activated and select its later mosque and again paint with white with this brush. But I still don't like how it looks. So I'm thinking about it. Is the first brush again? Because I don't really like that one. And make sure had the little brush from the little mosque selected first and a bit bigger Wanted 100 and just click. There may be a bit more towards the right side. And with just one click, I think it's enough. I don't wanna have that gap right there. It's too big on the mouth. Yeah, that's that Looks better. It takes a bit. I suggested take a bit of time and create a nice shape for your portrait following the pilot where the woman is looking and make sure that you see the most important features, like the eyes and big part of the mouth. Okay. Now have everything here. I'm gonna select three the three copies and I'm gonna press control, command G to group that I'm gonna name it Portrait. Before I continue, I want to add some more of that ink here on the Bagram. I'm gonna Critton new layer and I will press controlled man. Oh, to open my stock folder and I will use this images that I have here. I'm gonna copy that and I'm gonna paste it on this new leader. Of course I have to make it smaller because it's way too big. And since this one has this white background, I'm gonna change the blind to multiply so that it goes away. And I only have this collars here, and I will flip this around and see how this looks like. Think I'm gonna live it right here and you can see that I have now some color there, and I also have while some color visible through the this poor to the group here and next. I'm gonna open this other one because I like shape of it and the colors. This is a PNG file, but you can use the other you can copied from here and use the screen blended. But with the screen diamond, you will lose most of the of the color and the texture here. So that's why I used this PNG file. I'm gonna paste it again. Below are my group here, but above my background I'm gonna make it smaller and probably flip it around here and see where I can put it. I think I'm gonna put it right there. You can see that it now in on the last layer here, um, this one. It kind of you can see through it too much if you want to make it less visible. What you can do is activate the layer mask on the whole campus by pressing old and clicking on the layer mosque. This will reveal the layer mosque here, which is this one, and see how this having this on it's only comes handy because now, um, if you have the little mosque selected and press control man l he opened the levels. And if you change the levels here, you will only affect the layer mask because we had to have it selected. So I can It's like, for example, the mid toned and pull this to the left and kind of make it more ah less transparent eso. You understand me? Um, like that. Okay, maybe the mid tones are two. While the highlights are too bright, they still want to see some of that. Okay, let me show that before and after. Okay. Okay. So that's that. If you want to change the colors for any of this labour, see, just press control, Manu, or use a hue saturation as adjustment as a clipping mask. And then you can change. Uh, continue the hue. Gonna used. Maybe this one for this. Probably move it slightly right there and used the raise it and delete that. Great. Now have the main shape on Dhere. So what I want to do is have a bit more color on the face of the woman. So what I can do is open again, this stock images, I'm gonna work with this one again. Carpet actually could duplicate that layer over there with Anyways, I'm gonna pasty right here on top, and I'm gonna clip it to the, um, to this group here. I'm gonna clicthat if you don't have a Photoshopped version that allows you to group layers to groups. What you can do is duplicate this group. Let me show that unclip that were too great a crappy of the group And what you do is right . Click and choose restaurants or press control Man E. This will merge everything inside the group and you'll have something like this. And now you can merge this too. You can clip this Sorry to your merged group on Change the buy more to multiply, for example on while you will get exactly the same result that I will get right right now. But I can creep players to group So like I don't have to rest Arise it and I'll change the language to molded by, as I said And I can move this around and you can see I have this over the top of the woman's amount of the woman here. And while you can see the problem that I have is that this is visible over the woman's face but not here over the dress. So what I could probably do is invert these by pressing control command. I This will let me unclip it against you. This will turn. This is how it looked like under the normal image. If you inverted the background, background becomes black and get this collars. But now you have to also change the blend mode and change it to screen. And if equipped, this to the group Now you can create something like this and see that now the colors are also visible over this part of the of the image, which is nice. Um, I'm gonna live it right there. But one thing that we do here is that we lose. We lose this part over here. So what we could do? Let's see if we can use, uh, this later mosque over here, off the second of the second image and created for the top image right here like that. And that way we keep See that we keep some of the some of the depth on the texture from that from this little mosque that we created there. Otherwise, it looks kind of flat. You on the edges, and I don't really like this. Um, you can even use level to further modify it if you want. This is a bit more advanced, using masks to actually keep the texture that another layer mosque creates. I hope you understand it. It's a bit tricky, but well, I'm gonna channeling the little mosque here. If you don't want to create a little mouse, just don't do with just something that I do. And also, I can see it keeps the effect constrained over the boundaries of this other layer mask. That's what it does. Um, absolutes. Make sure we don't move that. Let's move on. And now, create another copy of this letter. But you you also create a copy of the off the letter mosques and off the little mosque, and you don't want to do that. So I'm gonna fill it with black, and I'm gonna deactivated for a second. And again this copy. I'm gonna, um, clip it to the portrait. And I'm gonna move this around here because I want to see what I can get, and I'm gonna put it right there. But maybe it's a bit too big. You can experiment with this, uh, as much as you want. I just want to get different color combinations and things like that. I'm gonna live it right there a bit bigger. But this time I need to create the letter mosque here. But I cannot use the same one. I have to look for the layer mask that belongs to the top part. So that's lucky. Locate that. And I think it's this one. Well, this is part of the letter mosque and also the top parts. I'm gonna first control quick. Later, Mosque of the first of later. One copy. And I'm gonna fill that with white right there. And you can see it creates constraints. The little mosque over to this area here. And that's it. The this one. I'm not gonna do it this part, because if I do this, I get the effect also on this side, and I don't want to do that. I think it looks better like this. And probably I could add some more stuff here. So I'm gonna open another stock image, and I think I'm going to use this one on the original. I didn't use this, but I think it would look nice here again. I'm gonna put it below my group here. We're have this other ones here in the background. Uh huh. Place it there. I don't even have to use bland modes here because, uh, this is a PNG file, so it's not necessary. Um, I'm gonna put it there. But what I will do is decide. Trait it. I wanna have it on in black and white. And if you don't like this, see the stop part over here. If you don't like this part, what it can do is use this other layer mosques here. To mask that, I'm gonna create a new inverted layer masal a black layer mosque. By all clicking, this will make the whole thing disappear. We'll actually have doing, creating horrible mask. And because I just want to hide this part. And now I will use the litter mosques here. I think this one Yeah, this one is the one that will mask everything here, and I'm going to select. Um, I'm going to select the little mosque and fill it this time with Black a couple of times, and now I can delete that part over there. Great. Now we have this year, while we can do, we're gonna live it like that. But another thing that you can do is yield is lair mosques here to add a bit more off depth on some mark the edges a bit so you can control quick this layer mosques, and then create a new layer on top of everything. Fill it with whatever color you want doesn't really matter and just drop the field, not capacity to fill, and this makes it disappear. But if you double quick and use layer styles, the layer styles the these later styles will will be visible. So if I add and an inner glow, for example or another, um, let's use outer glow, for example. You can see we can create this effect here. But I will use inner glow like that overly and you some color that you like, for example, this one. But I think it's even to visit, but I just want to mark the edge of it and okay, I'm going to relieve the range to 100% and the size to about 40 pixels. But this defense on the chemist size that you have, you can also try different contours here. But well, I think this one works instead. The off the linear. You can use this Gaussian shape here and get create this sort of shape here if you want less effect instead of using a really bright tone, use a darker tone like that, and you can do the same with the others. For example, let's say with this one, um, on the same layer, you can just just seems we already have the layer style. You can just alton backspace to feel that, and that's it. If I put the field back to 100% you will see what we get. So, artist, this later designed a layer mask that I created. I just feel that with with black and that's it and it's just marks a bit, the adjective you see that But it's not really significant. So if you don't want to do it, just go ahead and move on. And don't do that. Next, I'm gonna create a new layer. I'm gonna leave limit lights screen, and I'm gonna change the blend mode to screen. Get the brush to on. I'm going to use this round brush. You'll have this also on the brushes pack, and I'm gonna increase the size of it off course this hardened set to zero, and I'm gonna sample calls from around here and just paint like that. But make sure the colors are not too bright. You don't get something like this and do stuff like that it's too bright. We want dark tones and smaller brushes and just paying something like that. Maybe some blue tones around here that's too bright. There may be one. Or here just create some soft globes of light with different colors. I don't trust from some of this, uh, tone. Yeah, that looks nice, but a bit bigger, but And there was some think around there and some green. Let's see what this green looks Nice. Yeah, that here is not looking bad on and maybe right there. And then I'm gonna create a new later. I'm gonna name it. Lights Dodge on Dhere. We have to use really dark tones because this will make the whole thing light up. And I'm gonna change the blend mode to color Dodge. And just click here and there, too kind of light up the images, but the areas that you want to enhance I don't want to change the color of the ice to march . I'm not gonna pain directly over them. Um, I just want to enhance the colors and change the tones a bit. For example, if I have pain with green here, you can see how it makes the whole thing light up. So it's too strong. Maybe try this one over there. This other color ride. Let's see, right here. Maybe I don't like it. May be orange. Yeah, there. It looks better on. Let's see some orange to emphasize the tones right here. It's a bit too strong. So I'm going to use a darker tone like so okay to them and thats well here we can light up this color a bit more. I'm going to use a re dark red. See how you can bring more life to the colors over there. Okay, so we're done with the colors. Um, and we're pretty much done with everything here. All we need to do now is just some final final adjustments. So I'm going to start with the color look up. And the 1st 1 is the Khobar. Call Carmen here. You get this tone, I'm gonna use the collar bland mode, and I will drop the capacity to 35%. And next I'm going to use another color. Look up like this one. And the preset that I use is the gold blue. Also here inside a second drop down. I get this Stone. I'm going to use the blend mode normal and 40% capacity. Then a curves adjustment. And I'm gonna go into each channel here. I'm going to give you the values that I have for the curve. So on the blue, I have two points one here and one here. The 1st 1 where is with input 63 output again. 63. So just put it inside. Wallace cross here. And the 2nd 1 on input off 210 and output 198. This makes the the highlights and part of the mid tones a bit yellow er, while keeping the color here on the on the, uh, shadows on the greens have just one point here, Andi, with the input 1 73 and output 1 69 So I just added slight, slight touch of magenta and on the Reds again has just one point with input. 1 37 and output 121 again. Some red, some magenta story on the mid tones. And that's it. That's the adjustment that I made. With occurs, you can see the result, and next to finish it up, I merged everything into a new layer by pressing all to shift command and e or refuse a PC . Shift all control E. And I'm gonna take this into a smart object. A smart object, just in case. And here I used the camera. Raw filter. If you don't have four shops CC, the way you do this is first save this image as a J pic file, save it at 100% quality, and then go to the full shop preferences and inside a camera raw. Just go here on the world, stage a pack or save it as a tiff file even better and change just to automatically open all supported Jay Paige's or, if used to file automatically open all supported tiffs. And then after you saved the image, open it back with photo shop. It will open in a new document and you will open it in camera raw, um, directly. And you will get this the screen on dhere. The changes that I made our temperature minus four um 10 1 I didn't change to Marta the color balance here, but you can do whatever you want. It's really up to you. I'm just gonna give the changes that I made. Um, the exposure. I said it to 0.25. I thought it was a bit too, Uh, this saturated. So I used this values. But again, you can use whatever values you want. 0.25. The contrast to minus nine. I wanted the less contrast to image highlights to mind. A seven. I had some brand highlights there. Um, shadows. I increased this to again at more light on the darker parts of the image. 43 or 44 is okay, whites 20. This also lies up the image of it. If it's too brighter if on a darker, more countries more contrast, E just go ahead and do that. Blacks have this too 20. But for this particular image, I'm gonna live it to zero because this is a bit brighter than the original image that I have with the clarity can do some really nice stuff. If you really pumped this, you can add more, punched your image and make it looking with stronger. But I don't like it too with too much clarity. About 20 from this is okay for my taste. Vibrance here just increased the colors 25 used on saturation to five or 10 and next I'm gonna go to inside us Highlights while this plea Tom Sorry. And here for the highlights, I have a queue of 45 saturation to 14. This will add yellow to the highlights. If you want more. If I just increase the saturation to the amount that you want 14 is Okay, Dan, for the shadows. The Q I said it to 243. So I have a blue tone on a saturation to 27. If it's too much, just move the balance and, um, more more towards the highlights or have more yellow than blue. Or, if you want it more towards the blue side. Just do that. I'm gonna live it to 25 or 28th. That's okay. More towards the yellow outside and on the effects. I have the Deghayes because I have the latest version off camera raw, but if you don't have it, that's OK. I'm gonna live it to the room. And if young vignette ing just go ahead and at some vignette in change the midpoint and here you can do whatever you want I'm gonna add just six.
