Fun Flower Accessory in Minutes!

1. Welcome!: Welcome to my sewing room. Today. We're gonna make this adorable flour. It's fast and easy, and if you are a crafter or sewer, you most likely have all of the supplies on hand to make this. There's lots of variations that will go over with you for using all fabric and how to fuse fabric. How you felt different material, different things that you may have on hand trims, buttons, lace, all kinds of stuff that you can dio. It looks great on bags. You can pin it to bags. It's have a pin here. Competitive bags put into your coat, a hat. Wherever you can pin something. You can put one of these flowers, so let's get started. 2. Supplies - what you need to get started: Okay, let's go over our supplies. Um, first thing you're gonna need to do is download your pattern. This pattern is available under the my projects to have, but it is there. And let's talk about the pieces really quickly of three different sizes of pedals on, we have some leaves, and the circle here is to attach and cover the pin back on that goes right there. That's the circle. You can't see it really well in that one, but that's what it's for. Um, so that's what you have. Now, how many of these you cut out is going to be up to you based on how big and fluffy you want your flower to bay see is the base. So, see, is this piece right here? And so you probably just need one of those, Uh, A and B are different sizes, obviously, and you can decide how many you want to cut again, based on how big and fluffy you want your flower to be. And when we get to the planning stage, I'll show you how many of each that I used. And then you can figure out what you need to cut. So there's your pattern, we will need a glue gun on. This is called usable Web. This product here and, um, you can use it to fuse two pieces of fabric together so that you get pretty on both sides. Okay, so you get pretty pieces on both sides, but you don't have to do that. You can make your flower with fabric and not fuse it together and see the inside of the back side of the wrong side of the fabric. And it's just fine. Whatever you prefer. If you want to try this project first, before you go on by that, by all means do so. We have a pin back, and this is about an inch and 1/2 long. This is a good size for this size. Flour two inches would would work, but then you may want to increase the size of your circle, although this size circle will work with a two inch pin back. But that's that's up to you. Can you can increase the size of the circle. I have some random bits of trim that I purchased that were left over from a project, so these air tiny bits I hate to throw things like that away. I have Rick Rack. Any odd pieces of trim that you have left over from any project will work well for this. I have some yard. Cem, Uh, yarn left over from a project has a neat, nubby texture. Uh, you can include things like that. You can include ribbon, buttons, have buttons. And Bodo. I have buttons for the center of my flower. But you could use anything. You can use an old pin. You could use costume jewelry. You don't have to do a button you could tie. Um, ribbon in, not. And make that the center of your flower. Eso you can use that. I have fabric, I have fabric. And I'm gonna show you how to fuse this together, Um, and use it for a flower for a flower like this, where refused the fabric together. But then this one I also used batiks, which are nice because they're beautiful on both sides. So you don't have to worry about that. And so you can do that too. So we'll we'll be fusing this together with if usable web. We'll show you how that works. I have craft felt I'm gonna do one in craft felt. So you have you felt left over from a project craft felt won't work, Justus. Well, so we'll do that. And then this is wool felt that I purchased at my fabric store. Um and I washed it and dried it, and it came out with his really neat nubby texture. And then I took it one step further and did kind of some crazy halting, some meandering, quoting on it. Um, with with red, obviously, and for even more texture and interest, you don't have to do this. I just came across it and thought it was kind of cool. I think what I'm going to do with this flowers I might mix have one or two pedals cutting out of here out of this part, and then cut the rest out of this part. Here. You will need some scissors. Um, I have paper, scissors and fabric. Scissors. I try not to cut a lot of paper with my good fabrics is, Or sometimes they do. Sometimes they don't. Um but I try not to call a whole lot, and I, you know, use my paper, scissors for paper and things like that And that is pretty much all you will need again. You probably all these things One hand. So go grab those and we will start cutting and start putting together our flower. 3. Fusible web how to: for the fuse of web. If you're going to go this route, this is what this is what I get. I cut a, um, but a 10 inch rectangle of my fabric. Two of them, actually. And a 10 inch rectangle of the fuse Herbal web. If usable Web has kind of a nubby side feels like interfacing almost. And then it has a paper sign. My iron is on and I said, I have my iron one steam some people don't like Do you steam with this product? But I dio and first thing, I'm gonna dio a piece of fabric to get smoothed out. And then the next step is to take your, if usable, web with this, nobody side down because this is the adhesive and you don't want the adhesive all over the back of your iron. Ask me how I know. Like so So we placed it nubby side down, and we're going to iron this to the wrong side of our fabric. Okay? I typically start in the center. My lawyer is making 40 booking eases, and I am pressing out to the corners starting center and work your way out. Make sure that it is only attached. Sorry for reaching in front the camera. You'll need to let this cool because the next step is to peel this paper backing off. And then here's your piece, too. The fabric, It doesn't take long. So, uh, I'm peeling it, and you may be able to see the shiny usable part. Um, but there is that away. And then, actually, I'm gonna press my other piece of fabric real quick because it is a little Yeah, there we go. That will work. Okay, so I have my piece with, if usable, Web attached. I've peeled the paper off, and now we're going to fuse the whole thing together. So we'll have a little sandwich of fabric, which we can then cut out our flowers again. I'm starting in the centre and working my way out could hold her for a few seconds and work your way out. You wanna make sure that it is thoroughly fused and for some reason, you go when you cut and it isn't, Then you can just refuse it. This product is sold under a variety of names. If you're not sure what it is if you ask perf usable Web or you search feasible web, you'll be able to find it and probably even get it on Amazon. Okay, I think we're good and views. Oh, look at that first, Steve. Okay, and now my piece is ready. 4. Cutting tips - a few things that may help: have a few quick cutting tips for you for cutting around curves. I find it easier if I cut further back in my sheer as opposed to out here and take in a little tiny snips. So that's how I'm going to start. And the other thing that I dio is they start with the inside corners and then I cut around the pedals, as I've done here and here, I'm gonna go around hurt, and the other thing that may help is going with a smaller scissor might help you get inside some of these smaller spaces. So whatever works for you, these are just some things that have worked for me in the past, and I thought I would share them with you. Then I will go around and cut the outside part from the peril. So then I will go around here, think of these parts. You know, if you cut a little bit of the line off, it's really not that big of a deal. It'll be just fine. No one quick thing about the visible web that you want to make sure of is when you're cutting your flower pieces out of your fuse fabric, you want to make sure that you stay within the fused area. So my fabric was actually a little bit larger than my square, which I like to do so that I don't get the sticky stuff all over my iron. So just make sure that when you are putting your pattern on here on your fuse fabbre, if you're going this way that it is within the fused area so that you don't have, like, flappy flappy bits of your flower petals. Okay, I'm gonna finish cutting up my flowers and then I will be back and we will do some planning and some playing, and then we will glue. 5. What and how much to cut: about what and how many to cut. This is your see peace. This is the base. This is the largest flour. So you only need one of those That is this right here. So one of those is Then you have A and B. And how many of each of these you caught is really going to depend on the type of fabric? How thick it is, how thin it is? Um is And that will tell you how many of these that you're going to cut. Um, so for the fabric flower, this particular flower, all fabric the one way refused. I have my seat piece here. I cut four. Uh, these air the be pieces. So four of those. And then I have I cut for there's in the different fabrics. So I ended up with eight of those, and I don't think I didn't use the A at all. So you don't have to use every single piece. It's gonna depend for this flower. Um, typically, I'll start with a smaller piece and work out with a larger pieces so I would start with this is my center, and then cut these in place thes around. But for this one. I started with a larger piece in the center and then cut smaller ones and place them around . So I have 1234 small ones placed around one larger one on top of one base. And for this flower here, I actually started with a piece of lace trim that I just cut into a square. Unfolded it and I'll show you that when we get to the assembly part these air smaller, the smaller ones, the smaller pieces here there's three of those. And then there are three of the medium sized pedals on the base, with leaves you don't have to do is if you don't want to. So to answer that question, uh, there really is no answer. If you caught extra, um, you can save them and use them for another project. I have them. That's right. Don't have a bag full of those This flower here. This was a pin, and I cut the pin back off, actually, and I only used one small pedal and one large pedal for this one. So I think it's going to depend on how much true mu have. Extreme, you're adding, how big this pieces and the look that you're going for. So this is a very simple one, not nearly as fluffy as this one. And that is your choice here. This little guy. I used the the B piece I didn't even use to see peace for this one. This kept this one nice and small and then just use the eight pieces for the for the pedals . And I caught a bunch of those are two really only have two of those. And then I have three of this flimsier fabric and then one of this fabric include them all together. So it's going to depend, and I will be making three of them three different variations so you can see how they go together. If you don't have everything that I have. If you don't have the wool felt that's fine craft felt. I'll show you that. And then I will be doing a fabric one that I have fused. So they'll be options. Lots of options for you. Okay, 6. Plan and play: Okay, this is planning and playing. All right, let's plan and play a little bit before we actually start glowing. And I've kind of made little piles here for the flowers that I'm going toe work on this woman. This was, though, well felt that I showed earlier. This is gonna be my center. Only had enough to do a center. So what will Dio when we get to the glowing part is we fold these in half, We fold them in half again. When we cut this little corner off and then we glue it to the center. I'm left handed. I'm sorry we glue it to the center, right like that. And then we attached the other pedals around it and trims. That's basically how it's going to go. So what I want to dio and that because this fabric is so thick, I don't think I'm going to need all of these. There's my circle. Remember the circles for the pin back? This fabric was from this is nit. Miss Fabric was from a dress I made last summer. She's really pretty. So these are gonna go around the outside of it. So this is my center and then these air on the outside like that. Then these will go in perhaps right here and right there something like that. This trim I think we'll be my center. So that is how that flower is gonna go. So just give it a, you know, get a little bit of a thought before you actually start gluing. Sometimes it's easy to get carried away for my felt flower. This is the one where I wanted to use that yarn. And I made a length about eight inches long and I folded it about five or six times toe Have to get this and what I'm gonna dio is I'm gonna tighten and not you hear that and this will be my center. And what Will Dio is all blue here? This is gonna be my center. This piece is my centerpiece. So I'm a glue this right into the center like that and then full that and glue that down and then I'll cut this later. We can cut this off later. So this is this will be my center. This is my based peace. And then these will be afforded and glued around the center, so I think three ought to do that there. If you need to come or come or and if you again, if you have extra pieces left over, put him in a bag and hang on to them cause you use him again on this piece of little trim here, I think I'm gonna cut and maybe fold and stick in on the side somewhere like that. I think that would be kind of cute, too. So there's that one. And then my last one I'll be doing is with, if used remember, these are my centerpieces. So this is the fabric that I fuse. I'm using that for the center. This is corduroy. I did not refuse it. And I don't know if that is a good thing or not. It's a little flappy, but I'm gonna give it a try and see what happened. So it doesn't really have a whole lot of I will be gluing the leaves on the back, and that may help give it a little more stability. But we'll see how that goes. So these were the centres of my flower. It's really pretty. Batik will be the pedals that go around the outside of it, and all of that will get glued to the brown corduroy base. I have two types of trim and Rick rack that I pulled out for this. I may attached the Rick rack in the center some something like this, like that, and then glue. Things don't own it, so it kind of sticks out. I have a piece of trim that I was thinking I would use as my center is my very center. And then I found another piece. I thought I might take small segments and glue them kind of around the outside of these pedals. It was like with them down, like maybe glue a small section in between each one of these for something a bit different . Okay, so that is kind of the planning and playing portion, and my glue gun is plugged in and ready to go, and we are going to go 7. Felt flower - variation 1: I'm going to start with felt our first and what we dio the process goes like this. And this would be pretty much the process for the whole thing. For all the pedals, all the flowers, all the variations that you would make. I take whatever piece I want to start with for the center. Could be the larger could be the smaller. In this case, it is the smaller piece. I'm going to fold it in half and then fold it in half again. Yes, she doesn't have to be perfect. And then I'm gonna cut this corner off about 1/4 of an inch right like that. Okay, I'm going to apply my glue here and press it into the center, so it will go there. Okay. So here we have. And needless to say, be careful when you're glowing that you don't burn your fingers. Michael Jordan is old. It was before the invention of the love time. Glue them so it's pretty hot. But do be careful. This was holding that for a few seconds. This will be my center, but I'm gonna wait before I glue that in the middle until I get a few petals around. This is the trim that I have a little bit of trim. I think I Me. Tucker's in somewhere like that. In fact, I'm gonna do that right now. So right in here right there is where I am placing blue, and then my trim is going to get worried. And they're like that, actually gonna years, that flower peace that air re glued to help me press that ends. I don't burn my fingers. You could use a Popsicle stick Orangewood stick if you had something like that, anything like that to help you press that down without burning your fingers. Okay, form it in half. 4.5 again. An opposite Where I glued this piece is where I will blue this piece right there. Right on the base on kind of full that up nice and tight and press it right in the glue. Okay, there it is. Looks a little funky, but it will be looking better shortly. So now I have these three medium sized pedals which I will Ford in half and 4.5 again. And cut that same quarter of an inch off that we cut before. For the centerpiece and clue that in. And I'm just gonna lift the center up and out of my way so that I can place the second pedal in, like so personally, something forward in half. Pour in half again and we'll cut that corner off. Plop it well, right in there like that. Give it a smallish once these air secure, then you can fluff them out a little bit. They don't look so, um I don't know. It'll look a little more natural when you can, when you can fluff them out a little bit and arrange them. And the last one I'm gonna group in that area up. Not worried too much about that little bit hanging out there, because it's gonna get some blue right now and press okay. See how you can kind of open these up after you glue them. And I could even so have a gap right here. I could just put a little spot of glue and kind of nudge this pedal around in a little bit or that pedal to just to make it, um, fill in those gaps. So if you need to do that, you can do that. Fluff them out and around whether I might wait and do that after I glue this in there, which I'll do right now because this might flatten out, out and feel things out. So I think that's a good place for my center. More glue. The not support that I'm gonna place in the glue. So in that girl's smosh that down, it's a highly technical term. Smush. You know, we need to definitely need to cuddle this. It's kind of crazy looking. So we will cut that after we make sure that our flower, our center, is firmly attached. Yeah. So it looks kind of crazy once we cut it. No cute little flower. And there is your felt flower. Okay. So you can arrange and flaw often nudge these around. If I want to glue this pedal down here or glue this in, I'm gonna lift this trim up and so that it doesn't get glued. In fact, what? Just go ahead and do that right now. So right in there, a little dab glue. I'm gonna take the pedals from either side and bring them in to that area there and glue that There we go. No holds on the same thing here. A little bit of a hole here. I probably could have cut four of these medium size ones out and glue that in, but I didn't, so we're gonna make it work. I'm just pinched that in there like that. You can see where I'm pinching right in there. I would put my camera on my right, but it doesn't work very well. So you just have to deal with my left hand being in your way. Obviously, it's not too bad. And then more, more. I'm gonna do it again. Ever. Here. Just a just out. Fill that in. Okay, There you go. One cute little felt flower. My right. Here's your felt. Our we will glue buttons and pin backs on as the last step. But I wanted 8. Wool felt flower assembly - variation 2: way. Assembly of flowers. Okay. For the wool felt flower you here and trim my base piece. My centerpiece is there's a circle and then these air the other pieces. And so let's get started. You can't fold and fold and cut less than 1/4 of a ninja limit one glue right here and then into the center. Just pop it right down in the center for seconds. This is a neat piece of trim. I thought about making the center of my flower. We think needs a little press there. Someone more. I think I'm gonna put this on either side of it. Cut this in half. Maybe. Like that, I think. What I'll dio. Yes, I cut my true fold it in half for it in half again. So it's nice and compact, and I will glue that. I think I'm gonna glue it on either side of the centre pedal just for something a little bit different. Get there is on the way liberal amount of glue and place it rate all right in there. That means I'm just using the pedal to press that in, and it'll glue the pedal down, but that's falling. So I don't burn my fingers that for a few seconds, okay? And then I want to do the same thing on the opposite side. Similar to what I do with the trim in the felt flower. I'm just gonna lift up that center pedal. Impressive in like that. Just give it a second to set up. Okay? No, for the knit pieces that were to go around it again for in half. 4.5 again. Up a little bit of a corner off because of the fabric is so thin and kind of flimsy. I'm gonna fold it again one more time. I think I might stick the's right inside the pedals. Don't be afraid to experiment with projects like this. Um, if I'm doing a project like this for the first time, I'll follow it through the directions. Um, as they're given, and then I'll go back and I'll make changes and variations. And I think everybody comes up, always comes up with ideas that are maybe better, easier. And if you dio, I would love if you would share them. So taking that this is a really pretty piece of tie dye Famvir that was really expensive just why I saved Ria last a bit of it, Big Blue. And then again, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go in between the panels for something a bit different this time. I'm smooching that in with my finger like that. Give that a second to set up starts looking kind of wild and crazy. Hurry. Larger pedals, medium sized pedals. Air coming in next. Here we go. Cut that off. I got a good quarter of an inch off that one. And so here. I think I'm gonna place those underneath this weight trim right in there like that. So, what kind of pop? That out of the way. Lots of group lived up and press that in right there. Right in there. Ready to meet the weight trim. This was gonna be really fluffy. This wool felt stuff is pretty thick, but that's okay. It doesn't like a fluffy flower. All right, that's a pretty good. And they will do the same thing over here. Right underneath that. Make sure you get all the little fringy bits out of the way. On fold for world. I couldn't and you all right can really lift that up and place that right in there. Okay. It definitely needs a center. Nothing is gonna cure. So do all the centres, all the pin backs at once. Okay, so there's that. Keep that there for this. 9. Fabric flower assembly - yet another variation!: that's when we'll have leaves. Here's my base. Merge. This is gonna be my center Whips That's full of art. And so what? I'm gonna dio these. Well, these will be in the center of these pink. She's pink petals. The smaller ones will be in the center as well, so they're gonna go in the center. But I think what I'm gonna dio is actually gloom. I trim down first and then blew my pedal pieces. My smaller pedal pieces around that. Okay, it's the same thing I have four Did rolled Ford unenrolled this little bit of trim as tight as I can and gotten all this little friendship. It's out of the way. So that's where I'm gonna put the glue and then I'm going to glue it to the center and then we'll start adding paddles Great in the center now to turkey. Hey, what's standing up also? Well, this one, this is the one that I fused. I love this fabric steamer. Favorite pieces of fiber right on that cut edge there and then right up against it. I'm gonna stand it right on its end. Right Like that. You can see right like that with that cool and set up? No, I just realized that I glued this to the wrong side of my corduroy. Oh, well, here we go. I meant to do that. Yeah, that's right. I meant to do that. A design choice. There was a designed to research ihsmay without knowing it. Come in. All right, there. Right on the other side of my crazy looking centerpiece. Okay, this trim has a little piece of string that keeps the fringy bits together, which you will want to remove if you have that so that your fringy bits can be free to be friendly bits. All right, now pedals more pimples. This is the teak. Just gorgeous cutting off that corner. I think I might fold this again. We're not know. Unlucky afforded again. Yeah, I am going forward again. Somewhere a little something I can. Glue s here. I need some surface to blue. 10. Finishing steps - attaching center and pin back: Once you have your flowers assembled, then you can your buttons in or whatever you choose to use for your center. I'm going, Spartans, because gardeners have got enough of them eso for this one. I found it really cute little pink button. I think it took it off of something. And right in the centre, I'm gonna kind of fan out my trim, a nice amount of glue. And then I am just pressing my button right in the middle. There. There's one for this one. I think I'm gonna use two buttons. I've done that before in the past. I'm going to do to and really mashed this down a little bit. And with that in the center, I think I may put the glue on the button. We're not. Maybe not. I'm gonna put around on a flower and then press my button in when you get your centers in place. Then you can fan out the pedals in the trim. Things like that make adjustments. So for the second button, which will be right in there, careful that the glue doesn't come out of the holes and burn you. You press like that. Just make sure personal in the sides in case it does. Okay. And the felt flower? I wasn't sure I was gonna like the fell flower, but I think I kind of do they get turned out kind of cute again. I'm just gonna fan this your in out a little bit. Impress that down to secure. Here we go. All right. For our pin backs, take her circle, and you're going to place the circle inside the pin back like this. This is the part that gets glued to this to the flower. And so I put my circle through that so that when I glow, I'll put glue all over here and in here and press here. And then I can still, you know, I stole from my pin back. No, wait. Hides everything, cleans everything up. You could, sir, your pin back down. I've served them down. Whatever works for you, So I'm putting glue around the circle and on the back itself. And then I'm gonna press into position just like that. And there you have it. One cute little I felt more. Oops. Close this one. You don't need to have a turban. It's easier when it's closed. to manage, saying things are just the circle in between. And then I hold it. I'm holding it by the pin part, and then I will go Impressive right in the middle. Okay, Just like that, this guy can fluff out this little trim this one pedals on. You can put your pedals on first and then glue your pin back, which is probably what I'll dio so they can write about their and you get a large in a small paddle. You could cut two. Large is you could do small. You could do small and large. I'm gonna do a small on alert. I'm gonna start. I think I'm gonna start with it right about there. Gives me a little bit on the front side. You start with that one. Just a little bit of glue, right where I think I wanted it on a That's where it's gonna go now because it is glued down. German war. Another one? Um, sure. Let's screw this one up here right next to it. Now I will I will glue this more. I just want to kind of get it into position, and then I will add more gwil this one's pretty secure, but this was still little Flappy. Turn it over and just press that in. Here we go in the last pin back a circle, and and here we go, Okay. 11. A few more thoughts: Okay, A couple of final thoughts. I want to show you. This one has it had a couple different interesting things going on. This was, uh, clip back hearing that I purchased somewhere. And I just popped the clip on part off and used it as a center. And I've also used beads here. We're gonna make it neat of a neat texture to it and movement. And it was very easy to dio. So what I did was I started with my center, okay? And then I wrap the beads around the centre Include that any kind of can't really tell. But that's what I did. So the centerpiece. And then I wrapped the beads around twice, glue that down, and then came in with the's pedals and pushed them in on. When I did it, I was holding it like this. So the beads were falling down out of my way. And then I glued my sets of pedals in around like that. See, that's where you can use and beads. You can get some bt trim. Really cute beaded trim at the fabric store. Really cheap. So that's one variation. I think we talked about this one where I had. This was a pin, and I clipped the pin back part. Often. I only used one layer pedals and some trim, so you have lots of blood of options there. If you really like the pattern, um, and you want to make mawr and continue to make more, you may want use a piece of quilters, template plastic and trace. You're a pattern onto here and then cut it out. And then all you would have to do is just trace on your fabric and then cut out. That's good TV work. You know something that you can do when you're watching TV. And then one final thing that I dio I use food storage bags to save my pattern pieces in. And then I have some extras here on a small piece of fused fabric that I may use for something else. But you can kind of keep them all together in a storage bag if you like. 12.
