1. Freelancing How To Design A Business Card Promo Video: Welcome to the fourth part of the Freelance and a doozy Cores. How to design a professional business card. Business card is the most common and simplest way of advertising, so there's a big chance that your clients will ask you to design one for them. That is why, in this project you'll learn how to design a professional business card in illustrator and in photo shop. So if you're interested in how to set up your own templates so you can make your design process professional and faster, how to create a modern business card using illustrator and learn some new tricks in the process and how to design a business card in photo shop and understand the essentials of masking along the way but in the role in the class and let the design and begin. 2. 1. How To Set Up A Business Card Template: you know, I don't want this project to be just some illustrator and Photoshopped clicking. I mean, it will be practical, of course, but I want to be able to create business cards independently, whether for your clients or for yourself. And I believe that it is essential to learn some principles of creating proper documents that we will be d designing our business cards in websites or many stages of the design process will be asked by your clients for some advice, and you have to bet your claims with some data. So in the next few minutes will talk about things like business card size, the bleed and that document settings. But I promise to keep it short straight to the point and as far as possible. Let's start with the documents size when you're working for a client that uses the imperial measuring system, I mean in just not millimeters eso. If you're working for a client from, let's say, USA or the UK, you'll be preparing your documents in inches, and the most common size off business cards for you would be 3.5 inch by two inches, and those of you guys and gals who are working for clients who use millimeters instead of inches. You'll be preparing your documents in most commonly in these sizes, which would be 85 by 55 millimeters and 90 by 50 millimeters. The document size is not the only thing we have to keep in mind. We also need to remember about setting something called the Bleed. So what's that? Bleed is simply a Samoa space around the main part of the business card that is added for safety. We need to make sure that our background image covers the entire design space, so we are not left with any white border. A plus, the blades of a printing machine needs some space. Need some space to cut, and we don't want them. Teoh well even accidentally cut off the main design part, and a typical bleed size would be 0.1 25 inch or 2 to 3 millimeters. There is also something that I call the inner bleed, but you can also come across a different name, which is the safe zone, and the safe zone is a small margin or patting typically of the same size as the hour of bleed added, pushes the main design elements away from the edge of the business card, and it's used for again a safety. I mean, we don't want the most important parts of self designed to be cut off, but it just looks better design wise. And as for the collar mode, a C M y que color space is recommended, although if you prepare your business cars in the RGB color model, the business card will well, definitely print. But you may be surprised that the colors look differently than you expected, and the resolution of the document should be set to 300 dp I, which ensure, said, the highest quality of your print and just a quick side. Don't here if you want. You can download a pre made template from a print shops website and use that. But I think that I mean, if you if we want to be professional graphic design freelancers, we need to know the technical aspects of business cards, and we need to know how to create a temple for ourselves, which is what we will do in the next video 3. 2. How To Create A European Template: In the next few videos, we will learn how to set up a blank, a business card template, and we are going to create a template using inches, and we're going to create a template using millimeters. But I think that we will start with the With the latter. We will start with the Tampa using the millimeters. So let's go to the file menu and I'm gonna choose new. Now it's a It's a good idea to name our template first, so I'm gonna call it maybe something like business card EUR, ope, template. Just like so and for the profile. I'm going to go with the print profile because as soon as I do that, you can see that I got the proper proper units, which are millimeters in this case. Ah, the color mode is set to see m y que and the raster effects or the PP, I said to 300. By the way, if you can see this tab, most probably you have this advanced a tab collapse. So just click on this little arrow and you will see all these color mode, raster effects and pretty mode options right here. Now for this template. I'm going. I'm gonna choose the 85 by 55 version of the business card. So I'm gonna go to this size tab and for the with I'm going to go with 85 millimeters And for the height, I'm gonna go with 55 just like so. And as you can see down here, we got the bleed options. So if I simply press this top of bleed option twice, I'm gonna add two millimeters of bleed. And of course, I'm adding at the bleed, bow to top to bottom left and right, because I have this link here checked. So I got the name of my template. I got the size, Of course. I chose the profile to be to be print, but as students, I changed all these settings. It turned to custom, but turning the profile turn the print profile already made her they seem like a color mode and the raster effects 300 peopie I active. And we added we added to the bleed off two millimeters to top bottom left and right. So all we have to do right now is to go and go ahead and click, OK, just like so. And as you can see, we got this red border around our our business card right here. And this red border actually marks that bleed. So we got the bleed and we got the main size off our business card. So how does this all help us? And by the way, there's a There's an important thing to remember when working with illustrator or creating business card templates. And this way. So let me just create a simple rectangle for you, which will have the size of our business. Consort will be 85 by 55. I am going to make sure that I have aligned to our board selected, and I'm going to simply move it. I'm gonna align it to the other board, just like so. So now I'm gonna go notice that that this rectangle has the black border. This is important here because I want I want to show you one explain. Use one concept. So I'm gonna go to the file menu. I'm going to save my my file, and but I'm going to save it as a pdf because most probably when you are working with them when you want to give your client the final and the final document of the final on a business card designed or you want to send it away that way. Print shop. Your safest bet is to go with their pdf sound simply going ahead saver. And I don't need the illustrator editing capabilities preserved. I want to create acrobat layers. I guess I'm gonna go with Acrobat five. But I do want to see the pdf after savings. I'm gonna hit pdf, And as you can see it in, just go toe to full screen. You can see that we have our rectangle right here that has the same dimensions as our as our business card. But we got this wide border around which marks our bleed so we can see that we actually set the bleed even though even though we can see here inside our document of you inside an illustrator So now that we have the bleed and we have the right dimensions of our business card, which of course are displayed by the art board, so now it's actually taken off the off the inner blade of the safe zone. So I'm gonna select my my rectangle and I'm going to go to the transform tab. Now we already know that typically the safe zone or the inner bleed has or uses the bleed. Well, the general bleed settings. So in my case, I wanna have 85 millimeters and I want to subtract the value of the of the Arab League bleed off on both left on the right side. So two plus two is typically for So I'm just gonna go 85 minus four and I'm gonna go 55 minus four, and I'm gonna hit enter, just like so. So now I'm gonna go to the View menu guides and I'm gonna simply click make guides just like so. And this is how easily we can create a template for a business card. So we created a document with two millimeter bleed settings, and then we created a rectangle. It has dimensions of our of our business card art aboard. And then we made it smaller too, to subtract that than that. The inner bit of the safe zone values. So we subtract, subtracted the two millimeters on the left to me to millimeters on the right and too many millimeters from the top, and from the bottom, and then we turn our rectangle into guides. So just as a repetition, let's actually create a template. And then but to using on the inches. So we will create a business card template for the for the imperial markets. Let's let's call them like that. But we will do that in the next video. 4. 3. How To Create A US Template: even this video, we're going to create our template for the imperial markets. So again, I'm gonna create in your document. This time I'm going to use the shortcut of control, and and I'm gonna name my business card templates. Something like a business business card. Ah, us template. Let's call it like that. I'm going to go with the print profile. Just so just so I am sure that I have the color mode set to see him like a and the D. P. I said to 300 and I'm gonna choose the units, which will be inches in this case. And we know that the typical with of a of a business card measured in inches would be 3.5 inch just like so. And for the height, I'm gonna go with two inches just like that, and notice that as soon as I just click once on the bleak sidings right here, it's well, it sets itself to to the correct bleed setting that I am actually looking for, which is 0.1 25 inch. So we got the name we got, we got the with, we got the height. We got the proper units. We got the bleed and we got everything Everything set up to create our template. So I'm just going to click, OK? And again, I'm going to create the safe zone, just like we did Teoh last time. So I'm going to create a simple rectangle, and I think I'm gonna create the directing. I mean, I'm going to give it to the size so it's incorporates the bleed or the inner bleed values as I go. So knowing that my well, the with of my business cards should be 3.5 inch I'm going to subtract the total number of bleed on the left and on the right, which will be, I mean 0.0 comma 1 25 0 comma 1 25 would be actually quarter of an inch. So that's what I'm going to subtract. I'm gonna subtract quarter of an inch and for the height, I'm gonna go two inches minus quarter of an inch, just like so. I'm gonna press OK, and I'm gonna move my rectangle to that to the centre. I'm gonna go the view menu guides and I'm gonna make guides just like so and now we have our template created for the imperial markets, just like so. So we took all the steps that we that we took with them their with the European. Let's go like that European business card. So we created a new document, said the bleed, too. Boy 0.1 25 inch, of course, we said decides to 3.5 by two inches. And then we created this the safe zone. They using a simple rectangle tool and converting, converting the rectangle to two guides. So there you go. This is how easily you can create your business card templates. All you would really do right now is you would just save them and reuse them. Every time you are creating, you're creating or designing business cards. Off course. I will attach these to the business card templates to our class project. And if you wanna, if you want to upload, if on a submit your class project and shared with our community that that will be, that will be fantastic. That will be great. I always love watching watching your project so used to use any of these any of these temples to create your own business cards and in the next videos and we will actually start designing the business cards both in illustrator and in photo shop. 5. 4 Let's start the design process: in the next few videos, we are going to create two different business card designs. The 1st 1 is going to be created using Adobe Illustrator, and the 2nd 1 is going to be created using Adobe Photo Shop. And it's going to be in a completely different, different design. So as usual, let me just quickly break down on this design for you. As you can see, I am using a template that we that we created just a few minutes ago and here on the top, we got the logo here. We got the name off, the off our of our client, and he got some made up contact information. And as you can see, everything is everything is nine nicely centered. Now, here on the bottom, we got this grass effect and we got some green struck that is stretching from the bleed on the left to the bleed on the right. And on top of that, we got to the names off the products that our our client is selling. So let me just clone this art board so we can work with a with a fresh cardboard. But before I do that, let me just point out one thing. I got some. I got some notes right here just to speed things up. So I got all the all the information that I need. Plus, I got the logo here on the top. So I want to cloned this artwork down here. But I only want to clone the bleed and the guides. I want to close all these elements. So I think I'm just going to simply select all these guys. And for now, I'm just going to cut them. So I'm gonna press control acts on my keyboard. Now, in order to duplicate or to clone my guides, I need to have them unlocked. So I'm going to right click on my my our boat, and I'm gonna de select lock guides right here. Now, I can go to the art of war tool and with them move a copy artwork with Allah board selected . I'm simply going to press Holland person. Hold on the shift. Keep lost the bulky you press and hold down the shift and the option on the Mac. If you are working on black, and I'm simply going to release it somewhere here and you can see that I got, I got the bleed duplicated and I got the guides duplicated as well. So all that's left to do is to pace all those elements back. And now we can actually start working on our on our design. Maybe let me just maybe just let me log the guides and maybe I'm gonna I'm gonna create a new on the layer, some simply going toe old click on this creed New layer bottom. And I'm going to name at Let's call it just a business card, just like so I guess I'm gonna click, OK? And I'm going to start with I'm going to start with the logo. So I'm gonna bring the local over to my over to my art board. And there's one thing that we will have to pay attention to when we bring this logo down here. But this is something that I think that we should start doing in the next video 6. 5 Let's add the logo: in this video, We're going to start designing our business cut, and we're going to start with the logo. So I'm gonna grab the logo from my notes right here. So I'm simply going to copy these guys, these guys, and I'm gonna make sure that I'm on the right layer. This business card layer, I'm gonna look the original and I'm simply going to baste it, just like so Now there's an important thing we need to remember when designing business cards. And that important thing is that our type? I mean, the phone size shouldn't be smaller than six points. And right now, if I just checked the guy, you consider it 2 41 points and that's that's really, really small on. I mean, no one will be able to read it. So I guess you should contact your client about the these kind of things, but I think that we can We can simply delete to this tagline from here. If I check the stakes right here, it's It's 8 42 So I guess we are good to go. But before I leave this local like that, I want to make sure that this tax is nicely aligned in relation to this to this bottle flight. So I'm going to select both these guys, and I'm simply going to, well, make sure that I am aligning everything to selection, and I'm going to go ahead and choose this vertical line center just like so. And maybe I'm going to decrease the size of the local, but just a bit to something like 95% or maybe 90%. And let's now check the size of our it's 7 58 So I think we can even make it just a bit smaller, just like so, let's see now. 6 22 I think this should be fine. Let's not go. Let's not go below that. Okay, so right now I will group on group all these guys, I'm gonna group my logo. I'm gonna make sure that I'm align everything to the our board, and I'm gonna make sure that I have horizontal align center option checked, just like so. And one thing that is also important right here is to establish how far from the top part of my business card our logo should be, and it's really well, it's really up to you, but to what's What's important right here is to make the distance from the top edge and to to the logo and the distance from the bottom edge to this green stripe of the same. So how can we do that? Well, in order to do it, I think that it would be it would be best or the easiest to to play around with the guides a bit. So I'm gonna unlock them again, just like so. I'm gonna bring out the rulers by pressing the control are on my keyboard. And what I want to do right now is I want to bring out one the one guide like So I'm gonna move it. I'm gonna move it here on here to the top. So it snaps with my with my top edge off my my business card, just like so. So I'm gonna select it one more time. I'm gonna go to the transform panel and here for them, for the y value or why axis. So for the vertical movement, I'm simply going toe add, let's say five millimeters and let's see. I think 55 millimeters should be fine. So I'm gonna do the same for the for the bottom, For the bottom guide. I'm gonna bring out a guide and snap with the bottom edge, just like so. And this time I'm gonna I am going to move it. Let's go with 55 minus five. Just like so. So now I can be sure that if I move my my bring my logo up to this guide to summer here. And then if I bring my ultimately, if I bring my green stripe, I'm gonna align it with this with this bottom guide, I'm gonna have everything. A lot of everything distributed to really, really nicely and properly. Okay, we got the logo finished. So the next thing to do would be to Gramp all these pieces of information. So the name, the title, and the contact information, and simply put it, put it on our business cards. Now, I wouldn't worry for now about all these vertical alignments, we are actually going to using a very nice little trick. Align everything properly in relation to our logo and this green stripe right here. But I think that this is something that we are going to do in the next video 7. 6 Let's add the main text: in the video, we're going to add the name of our of our client and the contact information. So let me just quickly grab the name. I think it's on the locked layer, so let me just quickly unlock it. So I'm gonna grab all these pieces of information, copy them, love the layer back again and go to the business card layer. And I'm simply going to pace it somewhere here. Now, I think that for the consistency sake, we should use the same fund as is being used for the tagline. And I think I I would go for the at least in this design. And I would go with that with the sensor if front and our fund was called Latin. If you can remember that, if not you, you know it. Now I'm gonna go with maybe bold version this time I'm going to go to the character option , and I'm going to set it toe all caps just like so. And I am going to increase the phone size. I'm holding down the shift key by the way to 10. Ah, think time was better to 10 10 points, just like so. And I am going to make ID to Gray just like that. Let me just print these guys maybe bit down. And this time I am. Well, well, right now I want I want to add the title of our of our client. So this time I'm simply going to clone and down some holding down the shift and the old keys together, just like so. And I'm simply going to type in owner just like that, and I'm gonna make it significantly smaller to six points. Six points. Should be fine now going to move to the center shots like so maybe just a bit up. And I'm gonna simply underline the name of our clients. I'm gonna grab the line segment till and I'm going to create a line that is going to stretch something like that, and I'm going to give it a green stroke of one point. I think one point should be fine. Now, how can be sure that both the name and the owner are aligned or maybe even distributed properly in relation to this to this line? Well, honestly, if we just grab all these guys and just hit the distribute vertical distribute center making sure that we are aligning everything to selection. You may think that we are good to go. But let me tell you that very often when you are a line in life fund, you may be well, not aligning everything properly. So what we what we are essentially doing right now is we are aligning all the elements in relation not to the tax itself, but to its bounding box. So what we need to do is we need to select the tax. Both their name and the title go to the Effect option path, outline, object. And now illustrator is actually considering the Jane Johnson and the owner texts as they are converted in tow outlines. But they are not there Still Creditable Life fund. And now if I select all these guys and now if I distribute them horizontally, you can see that I don't There was a really, really slight, very, very slight movement. Maybe let me just show you this again. There's a fair, every slight movement with our with our line off this line right here. So now we can be absolutely sure that the distances are are accurate. All we need to do right now is to simply select both these. All these guys make sure that we are aligning everything to the art board. Just like so. And I'm going Teoh, I'm going to align everything horizontally to the center, just like so. So now I will apply in the outline object effect to this contact information and to this address text. So I'm going to go to the effect menu, apply outline, object, and I'm gonna change the filled color to the green collar, just like so. And maybe I'm gonna bring this guy just a bit down just a bit up, and I'm going to select both these guys and again I'm going to align them horizontally to the center, just like so. And I'm going to bring bring these guys up, maybe two summer here. Let's leave it. Let's leave it like that. Lived like that for now. We're going to go distribute everything properly after. Actually, we are done with the green stripe here on the bottom, which which actually will be something that we are going to do in the next video 8. 7 Let's Create The Grass: not. Let's move on to to the grass to do these grass blades. So I'm simply going to grab a rectangle tool and let me just maybe zoom in real close and I'm going to create a nice rectangle that is going to look something like so not with a direct selection until I'm going to select these two top ANC reports on the left and the right, I'm gonna press the ask you on the keyboard and then enter, and I'm going to scale the scale these guys down uniformly, all the way to zero person. And if you can remember how we how we made our stem look like Well, something like this. Well, this is actually in the same technique, some something going to press, OK, and I'm gonna give this guy this nice green color just like so. Now what I want to do right now is they want to move this guy to the right and simply cloning some holding down both shift and the old keys, just like so, and I'm gonna make it a bit darker. So I'm gonna go to my color panel panel and I'm simply going to add some black color to my to my blade. I think this should. I think they should be fine. Now I'm gonna move it all the way to them, to the bottom of the stack. Let's call it like that. So I'm simply going to press control shift plus left bracket on my keyboard. And I think that this guy should be smaller. So I'm simply going to make it smaller to something like this. Maybe just a bit bigger. Something like that should be fine. Now, maybe I will bring this guy a bit to the right. Okay, this should be fine. Now, if you think that we are just simply going to grab the these guys and, like, maybe moved them to the right to clone them and then just keep cloning and clothing in a cloning. But I think that this would be on one hand, will too much time wasted. And on the other hand, we would we wouldn't be too precise. We I mean, we wouldn't have all the flexibility that we can achieve actually here and that we are looking for. So I'm simply going to delete these guys. Maybe I will make this guy just a bit narrower. Just a touch. Something like that. This should be fine. Okay, so now I'm gonna grab these guys, maybe make them just a bit smaller and move them all the way, All the way here till it till this guy snaps with my bleed. Summer here should be fine. I'm gonna create a group out of these guys and simply going to press control G on my keyboard. Let me zoom out at what I want to do right now is they want to cologne, these guys all the way to the right till the bigger blade snaps with the bleed line somewhere here, some symptoms simply pressed and hold and held down a shift and their ship and the altar keys together. I'm going to select both these guys. So both these groups, I'm gonna go to the blend options. So I'm simply going to double click on the on the blend icon right here. And I do want to go with the specified steps and let's see if 20 actually is going to be OK . So I'm simply gonna hit, okay? And what we could do right now is we could simply click on both of these groups right here . Or we could use the simple shortcut, which is old control plus V, just like so. And as you can see, 27 is definitely not enough. But luckily, we created it as a bland, so we can simply no double click on the blend still, and we can simply in the crees the value that the value off our off our steps to let's see 70. Maybe even more than that, I guess 100 will be will be enough. So now that we got our blades created, weaken simply create a simple rectangle that is going to stretch from this bleed setting to depend on the bleeder line to the other bleed line somewhere here. And just like that, we got our grass created. Okay, so this is how easily we can create a grass effect using the blend tool and some simple transformations. The next thing to do would be to simply and the taxed. So to add to the products that our client is actually selling, and then maybe a line everything nicely. So So eso our composition is actually well balanced. So we are going to do that in the next video 9. 8 Let's Finish the Business Card: in this video, we are going toe Add that products that our that our client is selling. So I'm gonna go to that to the original layer. And I'm simply going to borrow these guys. I'm gonna copy them, go back to my go back to my layer, look the original and simply paste these guys just like so let me just bring them summer here and not just distribute them real quick. Just like so. Okay, so I think that these guys should be should be white, some simply going to sample the white color just like so. And I think that we know to align everything properly. We need to go to the effect menu and just apply out outline, object once more. I'm gonna go to the character panel as well, because I want Teoh. I want all these words to be written in all caps, some simply going to click all caps just like so. And then I'm gonna I'm gonna move this guy a bit. Not all these guys on Lee, this guy a bit to the right. So it so it aligns with this guide right here and this guy a bit to the left. Okay, we are almost ready to align these guys properly. But if we refer back to our original design, you can see we got some dots right here. So I'm simply going to quickly create them using the Ellipse stool sample. Gonna press the l key on my keyboard and I'm gonna create Doesn't have to be too big. Something like this should be fine. I'm going to simply cologne. It's all the way to the rights. I'm simply pressing and holding down both to shift and the gulke's together. And now I'm gonna just press control de to duplicate the last selection and the last, the last transformation, just like so. And maybe I am going to decrease the phone sites of these guys act like they are already in six points. But if we go five points and since they are written in all caps, I guess they will be eligible enough. So I'm gonna move this guy all the way to the right, this guy all the way to the left, and I'm gonna select all these guys by shift clicking on them, just like so. And I'm gonna do some aligning. So first I'm gonna make sure that they are on that they are aligned vertically to the center. So I'm simply going to press this bottom right here, just like so. And now I want to align these guys in relation to this. This this green a strike. So what we could do is we could simply add this green strike to our selection by shift clicking on it. And then I'm going to click on it once more to make it our key object. And if I now press this vertical align center option, I'm going to going to align Onley these elements in relation to this green stripe, just like so. So the last thing to do here would be to simply make sure that this name the owner and this line, this contact information and that it's all being nicely aligned in relation to our grass and in relation to the logo. So how can we do that? Well, I'm simply going to select all these guys and created group out of them and constantly gonna create two lines. So one line, I'm just gonna created something like so and I'm gonna give it some some visible maybe black stroke and I'm going to bring it down till it snaps with my with my bottle flight. And then I am going Teoh, bring it down here. So it snaps with the with the top of parts off the blades. So I'm going to select this group, this line and this line, and I can simply click this vertical well, actually not vertical and sent on to distribute these guys vertically to the center, just like so Now I can simply just grab these guys, delete them, and I can be sure that the distances between the logo and this text and, well, this whole group and this group and the grass are actually are actually equal. So what we would do now in order to to finish our our design would be to simply save it as a pdf and send it off to our client or maybe to the print shop directly. So there you go. This is how I think easily you can create a design just like so. And this is that this was the first design that we that we created to using Adobe Illustrator And in the next video, we are actually going to create a different design using Adobe Photo shop. So that's something that you're interested in. Just keep watching 10. 9 Business Card in Photoshop Introduction: in the next few videos, we're going to create a different version of our business card. And as you can see, we are going to do that inside photo shop. In this project, I would like to focus more on how to create a business card that uses this kind of a big, big image as a background. But also, we're going to talk about masking insider inside photo shop, and we will use masking to create this kind of a transition that this green kind of a transition of effect right here. So as usual, let me just quickly break this logo down for you. As you can see, we got as we just mentioned this big big butterfly image as a background and we got this portion that is a bit more a bit more green, and I say it like that, but it also can, like, fades into this to this image, just like so. As I said, we're going to use some mask into to achieve this kind of an effect. Now, I got my logo right here. You can see this natural Attilio logo and all I did was I just turned the original logo I mean, I made it. I gave it to White Phil and just paste it in inside this Photoshopped document as a smart object. And as you can see, we got to the name of our of our client. We got the title, of course. We got this bar right here and we got some contact information. So I guess the design is not is not too complicated, because the purpose of this project is to show you how you can create business cards that use this kind of a big, big photo effect in the background, because I wanted to make this project something something totally different. So I wanted to show you how you can use this kind of a this kind of an effect that uses this image right here. So let's actually start to start designing our our business card. But let's actually do that in the next video 11. 10 How To Add The Guides: in this video, we're going to start designing our business card. So let's create a new document. So I'm just gonna quickly initialize we'll treat in your document by pressing control and all my keyword, just like so. And I'm gonna name it. Business card, many Bader flying. Why not? Okay, I want to my document to indeed have. Well, I want to set the units two millimeters, And this time I am going Teoh, I'm gonna make it 94 by 54 because I want I want my ultimate business card to have 90 by 50 millimeters dimensions. So I'm gonna go with 94 by 54. I do on the resolution to be 300 pixels per inch. And I do want the color mode TV set to see if y que just like so. So I'm just gonna press okay, just like that, Okay, So what I want to do right now is I want to simply place place my butterfly image inside my document. So I'm simply gonna go to the file menu place and I'm gonna choose my my butterfly image, and we're gonna double click on it, just like so. Okay, now, I'm simply going Teoh, but maybe resize it just if it's I'm gonna hold down the shift, plus the old keys on my keyboard on a Mac. It go with the shift plus option to make it bigger, just like so. And maybe I'm gonna bringing jobs to be down to somewhere here. Possibly gonna gonna accept these changes just like that. Okay, Before I start adding some more artwork onto my canvas, I want to know that the proper dimensions of my documents, right? I wanna know where is the bleed? I want to know where the honorably or the safe zone. So I would have to set up, set up the guides, right? Well, in photo shop, what we could do is we could actually just bring out the guys from our ruler. So you can You can do it like that, but it wouldn't be too precise, would it? And if you want to do it like that, if you want to bring out the guys just like so and then maybe play around with them if you want to go. If you want to do something like that, just remember to have your rulers up, so we would have to go to the view menu rulers or press control, art or alternate. Alternatively, you could go to the new guide and you could play around with these values. So if it was for if we wanted to create a vertical guide that you maybe just clear these guys, I'm going to go to view menu guides and now again to view new guide. So inside here we could set the position of our of our guide. In this case, it would be vertical guide, so we would go with something like two millimeters, just like so. And as you can see, we are setting up a guide just like so. But it gets kind of kind of difficult when you want to set up with the guides that are here on on the opposite side of the of the document, I mean would have we would have to go to view. You have to go to new guide again. So now we would have to type in the dimensions of our business card minus the bleed, so he would have to go with the 92 millimeters, just like so, and you'll have to remember about that every time we every time we are creating guides. So again we'll have to go to view you guys this time go with the horizontal typing two millimeters, just like so and then again and go with the another guide view new guide and then go with the 52 millimeters, just like so. And it Well, I mean, if you want to go, I go this way. And if you want to maybe record an action for yourself. Well, you can do that. But I just wanted to show you a quick little way how you can, how you can set up your own guys or at least simulate that the guides, he using some simple tools. So I'm simply gonna go. I'm gonna grab the rectangle tool right here, and I'm gonna click somewhere on my artwork and I'm going I'm just gonna simply type in then the property managers, so 90 millimeters by 50 millimeters, just like so. And I'm gonna make sure that it doesn't have any Phil. So here in the control panel, I'm simply gonna I'm simply gonna click this no fill option, just like so. And I do want to have a stroke off. Maybe one point, or maybe even half a point, just like so. And I am going to move it to the center of my artwork. So I'm going to move it just like someone is you concede fits perfectly with our guides. So maybe for now I'm just gonna turn them off. And now I would have to simply create another rectangle. But this time I would have to make it. I mean, I want to create the safe zones. I would have to subtract two millimeters on both sides, right. So I would just go with 86 millimeters by 46 millimeters, just like so. And this time I am going to move this guy. I'm gonna move this guy to the center. So? So I so I can see my saves on the right here. So not what I would do. It would simply select both these rectangles created group out of them by pressing control . Geo my keyboard on a Mac. You go with Commander. Gee, and I would name my group guides guides just like that. But off course, when you're print in this, uh, this business card or send it out to the client remember to either turn this Ah, this for layer off or even deleted after you are done with your design. So there you go. This is how easily we can create or simulate the guides without the need of going to the view menu new guide or bring in our guides from the rulers This how easily we can simulate the bleed and the intra bleed inside the Photoshopped document. So again, what we did was we just created a simple rectangle. So we went with a rectangle tool, collect on the canvas and simply typed in our values. But remember, toe always, aunt your your dimensions. I mean your your units because if I just go with 90 photo shop is going to is going to populate, I mean in Photoshopped by default is going to sent the units two pixels and we want to millimeters or interest. If you were working with inches, so always remember to manually typed in the unit's right here. So there you go. In the next video, we will start will playing around with the mask so we can create this kind of a green transition to the left. So that's something that you're interested in. Just keep watching 12. 11 How To Create The Transition Step 1: in this video, we are going to create the green transition, and we are first going to use some techniques that we are already familiar with because we used them. We'll learn them in our will in the pencil inside Photoshopped course. So I'm simply going to grab the mantel and I'm gonna set it to shape, just like so. And I don't think it Ah, maybe for now, I'm just gonna leave it to with the white feel and white stroke. Why not? The more important thing is to create this shape itself. We are going to play with the colors a bit later. So what I want to do is I want to click somewhere here off the canvas, somewhere here to create this kind of a shape. And now I'm going to click somewhere here and just click and drag to create us something like that, not going to hold down the old key on my keyboard to detach this direction, handle into and to make it make well and to make it move to the left. Let's call it like that, and not simply going to going to finish my shaped by pressing somewhere cuter. I mean clicking on this first initial article anchor point to close my shape. Just like so off course. If you don't like how your shape is looking, I'm simply going to grab the direct selection tool right here. And I am going to maybe manipulate these guys just a bit, maybe something like so. But maybe not too much. We can play around with you with this guy on make something like that. Okay, this should be fine. You can play it and play around with these direction handles all day long. And I think that is going to be easier for you if you've seen my panel inside photo shop. But for this for this project, I'm just going to I'm just going to keep it. Keep it brief. Keep it quick because and more important, things are still to come. So I got this shape created right here. Okay, So what I want to do right now is I want to give this shape a different color. So I'm gonna go to again the rectangle tool option right here. And maybe I'm going to get rid of the stroke while I'm here and for the fill. I think that I'm going to sample. I'm going to sample sums. Well, maybe this green color and maybe I'm gonna make it even darker to summer. Here you can choose the green. You like better. I'm gonna press, okay, Just like so. And what I want to do right now is I want to create this kind of a transition that goes from the left to the right. So how can we do that? Well, we actually can do this. Condone it in two different ways. The 1st 1 is going to be easy. And the 2nd 1 is going to be a bit more complicated, but not too complicated. And But what we need to understand first before we are actually before we actually start doing this kind of a transition, we need to understand one thing. Well, for this effect work, we will use the mask in inside photo shop. And the only thing you really need to understand about masking in order to understand how it works is that white shows and black covers. So let me repeat that white shows and black covers. So wherever there is, there is white on your mask. You are going to show something that is beneath the mask and we're not. Wherever there's blank on your mask, you're going to hide something that's a beneath the mask. So in our case, if I just go to the layers panel and I simply click on this layer man at a layer mask option right here, you can see this Tom Nail that has just a white why to over it. So if I now just go to the Grady and panel and I'm gonna initialize the great until right here and you can see that I got this simple black and white Grady and set up here And if I now, just while being on my mask right here, I need to be sure that my mask here is active. And if I just start clicking something like that, you can see that I am actually creating this kind of a transition because I'm on the left. We got some. We got some white color and underwrite. We got black. And as we already know, white shows and black hide. So in our case, White is going to show this green color off our shape, and black is going to hide it and we are going to make this kind of this kind of interested in transition just like so. So there you go. This is how we can create this, kind of. Maybe if I just turn off, the guys will see everything better. And this is how we can create this kind of a this kind of a transition transition using the mask and the Grady int. But of course I might have. I might have showed it to you a bit too fast. So let me just go to their layers to the masks panel voted layers panel. But I'm going thio going to do leave this layer mask. So let's do that one more time. I have my shape selected and I'm going to go down here and a layer mask just like so. And I'm gonna go to the great and panel and I'm gonna make sure that I have this simple black and white grading selected. You can have a different grade in selected, but for now, let's just stick to plain black and white, and I'm just going to click and drag somewhere here to create this kind of a transition effect. And of course, we could play around with this all day long trying to make this trying to make this transition look the way we want. But I am going to leave it up to you because I want to show you a different way of achieving this kind of a transition and how we can actually, we'll give ourselves some more flexibility when creating this kind of ah, transitions. I mean, we are going to use the layer mask, of course, but we are going to use the brush to in order to make this transition even the smoother, smoother, even more professional, even more advanced. So that's something that you're interested in. Just keep watching. 13. 12 How To Create The Transition Step 2: in this video, we're going to learn how to create this kind of a transition. But we are going to use a bit of a different technique. We are going to use that the masking. But in order to create this that the smooth transition, the smoothness of the transition, we're going to use the brush toe. So first, let me just maybe duplicate this layer and I'm going to turn the visibility of the of the underlying line layer off, just like so. And this time I'm gonna move. I'm gonna delete this thing, this mask just like that. Okay, so I'm going to add a layer mask to my to my layer. But this time I'm going to hold down there in the old key while clicking on the add layer mask bottle right here. So on a Mac, you it hold on the option because what I want to do is I want to I want to add the inverted layer mask. So remember that we, when we just create is simple layer mask. We are going to a day later. Matter is going to show everything. So the family right here would be white, but right now as we clicked. Well, we all clicked on the ad layer mask option. We added eight, an inverted layer mask. So how can this help us? Well, I did that because now I want Teoh uncover what's under what's underneath the mask and to make a transition really smooth. I'm just gonna grab the brush tool, just like so. And as you can see, I got the white filled selected right here. And remember that the lower the opacity, the smaller the amount of our of our underlying shape we are going to be uncovering. So I'm gonna go with something really small, like maybe 7%. And I'm going to start here on there, right? So I'm simply going to click and start. Of course, the more I clicked them more, I will uncover. So for now, I'm just going to click something like that. Now I'm going to increase the opacity, maybe the something like 30% something around it. And again, I am going to click somewhere here, just like so. And I am going to increase it even more to maybe 50%. And I'm going to paint something like so to make the transition even even smoother. And if it's not enough for you, just go with maybe start with something like 20% and just start painting somewhere here, that increase it to maybe something like 40% and start painting and then maybe go with something even more and start painting just like that. And there you go. This is how we can create a this kind of a transition in a bit of a different way. That gives us a bit more flexibility and actually shows us better what we are doing. So just as a repetition, let let me do the whole the whole thing again. So maybe I'm going to simply a delete layer mask, just like so and again. I'm going toe old click down here on this added layer mask option right here, some adding, adding layer mask, that is this time is hiding everything. I'm going to grab the paint brush tool off the brash toe, and I'm going to set the opacity down to maybe something like 24%. And I'm simply going to start painting just like so now I'm going toe, increase it just a bit more. I'm going to start baiting just like that to have this kind of a smooth transition, smooth transition set up. And by the way, if you want your shape Teoh to be positioned, Teoh somewhere else, we can simply grab it with the selection tool, just like so. And of course, weaken still paint over in the layer mask and hide this portion of our of our shape. So I'm gonna make sure that my layer mask is actually active. Grab the brush tool. Maybe even increased the opacity just a bit more. And I'm going going to simply start painting. Maybe even more. Start painting just like so to make everything nice, nice and smooth. So there you go. I think that these techniques are really, really useful. And I really wanted to. I wanted to focus on the how do we work with masks inside Photoshopped. But I think that I'm going to create a whole different course mask occurs. There is so much more to mask it in inside photo shop. But if you just remember that black hides and white shows, well, you're basically understand everything about masking, So the next thing to do for us would be to simply at the text so well, the text and the local. So if that's something that you want to learn Well, we were We will do that in the next video. 14. 13 How To Add The Text Freelance: in order for us to properly put the artwork elements on our on our business card, what we need to have the guides on. So I'm simply going to turn them on and maybe I'm going to turn the mask off for just a second, and I'm going to start adding the the needed elements. So forgive me if I just don't go back to illustrator and copy everything from there. I'm just gonna borrow what I have right here. So I'm simply going to maybe I'm just going Teoh select the right player and I'm simply gonna gonna copied over here, just like so. I'm gonna put it here and I'm gonna borrow this this contact layer as well, Just like so. And I'm going to put it down here, maybe even down here, just like that, maybe even the discipline to up to somewhere here, but I think that we can actually write them the Jane Johnson and the owner and create this this bar right here. I mean, I bet that you probably already know how to create tax inside Photoshopped. That's that's why I am not devoted too much time to create it. But I think that for the educational purposes And to make this course well, this project more complete, I will actually going to create some tax inside Photoshopped just now. So I'm going to initialize the type tool right here, and I'm gonna click somewhere here and type in, um, Jane Johnson, Just like so. And I'm gonna make it white just like that. And the front of family that I'm looking for is a lotto, as we already know. And this time I think I'm gonna go with the bolder version of it. I'm going to increase its size to 10. 10. Should be fine. I'm gonna move it somewhere. Here, maybe something like that. I'm gonna move that contact even maybe to somewhere here. Now I'm going to I'm going to type in the word Oh, her. So I'm going to click somewhere here, typing owner. Make it just a bit smaller. Six points should be fine. I'm gonna move it somewhere here, and I'm just gonna grab a simple, simple, simple line tool. And I'm going to create a line that is going to look something like that and I'm gonna give it one point of stroke and I dont force wanted to have any field, just like so. And there you go. We got to the texter created. So now I'm simply maybe going to group these guys, and I'm gonna name it on. I'm gonna name it Name just like that. And now I'm gonna turn my turn, my mask on and off. Course you can see that since our shape was well is below our well, both the logo and the contact and also the name right here. We can see everything just a bit better now. We could maybe bring the guides all the way to the top, just like so, So we can see how we can position everything just a bit better. So maybe I'm going to move that, not the guys. I'm gonna move the contact just a just a bit up. Come on. I wanna move the contact just like so. So if you see something like that happened to you inside Photoshopped, it's happening right now, so that's most probably because you have this order Select option turned on. It tends to be useful when you have a lot off a lot of different elements created on your on your canvas but in this time is actually is actually, Well, it's not helping at all. Some cottages de selected. I'm gonna make sure that I'm on the proper layer and I'm gonna move it. This guy I met up to somewhere here and my name, I think I'm gonna leave it like that. And remember what black and white radiant as we clicked and simply created this transition . And then we created an inverted layer mask. Remember, we all clicked off this add layer mask option, and we played around with the brush with the brush. Of course, it needs to have the white Phil and then we played around with the opacity in order to create this kind of a smooth transition. So there you go.
